Lucnica Dance Group Reception Cancelled

Ben F. Trcalek

To: The Members And Delegates Of District I SPJST I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the trust you placed in me at the 23rd convention and elected me as your District I director to the Supreme Lodge. I consider this to be an honor and a privilege. I have always strived to represent District I and the SPJST fairly and honestly. I am proud of the progress and growth of our Society during the past four years. I take this opportunity to solicit your support in electing me to another term as your District I director at the 24th convention.

Due to the serious logistical problems and the lateness of the night hour, we were reluctantly forced to cancel the reception honoring the LOnica Ensemble Dancers the evening of March 29th. That same evening at 8 p.m. they will have performed at Temple High School. It is estimated that their performance would have been over by 10 or 10:30 and by the time the forty dancers had packed their suitcases and boarded their buses for their next performance in another city it would have been around 11 or 11:30 before the reception would have gotten under way at the Supreme Lodge building. We have notified the people concerned at Temple High School and explained the situation. Had their performance been in the afternoon, then we would have considered a reception in the early evening hours, but as it is, it would be an almost impossible task. The Czech community is still cordially invited to attend their performance at Temple High School at 8 p.m. Their performance is a "bonus" in the series sponsored by the Temple Community Concert Association. For further information on tickets, contact Mr. Ron Brandon in Temple at 817; 774-2585 or Mr. Durward Howard at Temple High School at 817; 773-1181 during the day time. Nick A. Morris

Dallas Awaits Czech Film Festival Elsewhere in the VESTNIK you will see press releases and schedules for "A Grand Festival of Czech Cinema" which will be held at the Granada Theatre in Dallas from March 22 to April 15. Ever since the first announcement of this film festival was made by the Landmark Theatre Corporation of Los Angeles, California, many Dallas, Fort Worth, and Ennis-area Czechs have shown a high degree of curiosity and interest in learning of the details of this firsttime-ever event for Dallas. This indicated eager anticipation of the Czech films is interpreted as confirmation of the high interest, organization, and activity of the Dallas Czech community in matters relating to its heritage. Statewide Czech-related newspapers, Czech-music radio programs, and local Czech-founded lodges, clubs, businesses, and individuals are cooperating in promotion of the festival. The films are in the Czech language but have English subtitles so that patrons might invite family members and friends who do not understand Czech.

The festival is spread over a four week period so that patrons may see all eight films without an excessive demand on their time. Each showing will include two feature films, each with a running time ranging from 83 to 110 minutes. Each Thursday the first feature will start at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinee showings (starting at 11:00 a.m.) were added for the convenience of out-oftowners, senior citizens, and others who might find it inconvenient to attend the regular Thursday evening showings. Each Sunday showing will repeat the films shown on the previous Thursday. The films, including the English subtitles were made in Czechoslovakia (mostly in 1980 and 1981) for domestic and international exhibition. Rebecca Flores, who is the promotional representative of the Landmark Corporation, has advised that the films are entertainment oriented and she does not expect them to be politically offensive to anyone. The Granada theatre is located at 3524 Greenville Avenue in Dallas. (Continued on Page 10)
