FRATERNAL AFFAIRS SECTION The Central Texas area will be the scene of two Child Abuse and Neglect Programs sponsored by the Supreme Lodge. Instead of calling this "The Year of the Rat" as is being done worldwide, the SPJST is naming this, "The Year of the Hurting Child." To continue its emphasis begun last fall, Sister Thelma Hrncir, State Project Coordinator, assisted by Brother Henry Vitek, District II director, and workers from the Children's Protective Services of the Texas Department of Human Resources, invite all the members of the lodges in the surrounding area as well as interested members of the community to attend a Child Abuse and Neglect Program at Taylor Lodge 29 Friday evening, January 13, at 7 p.m. President Edwin Adamek is handling local arrangements. The 11/2 hour program will explain the Society's involvement in the project, the problems and needs of the children in this area, and ways the local lodges and members can help meet these needs if they choose to do so. Sunday, January 15, beginning at 2 p.m., Brother Sid Pokladnik, District III director, will assist Sister Hrncir and local DHR personnel in presenting a similar program in the Waco area. Lodge 66 will host the program at their lodge home, followed by their regular monthly meeting. Members and guests from the Waco area are cordially invited to attend this program. President Johnnie Gaidusek is in charge of local arrangements. "At some point in our lives, most of us need an extra measure of understanding, affection and guidance. For neglected and abused children, this time comes early," Sister Hrncir said. We are asking our members to make this temporary commitment which can make a lifetime of difference. Let's not close our eyes and hearts to this urgent need."
