Texas Fraternal Congress Shows Appreciation

1. At the request of Senator John Sharp, I testified in the senate chamber earlier this year on Senate Bill No 1 which he co-sponsored. The bill essentially would permit local taxing entities to exempt buildings and real estate property owned by veterans' organizations and fraternal benefit societies from ad valorem taxes. Brother Otto Hanus of Temple and several other elderly Czech Texans recently (Oct. 16) were honored at the Forty-Third Anniversary American-Czecholslovak Day at the State Fair in Dallas. Brother Hanus was chosen "King For the Day" which is the honor bestowed upon the oldest gentleman of Czech descent at the Czech Day. Otto is 83 years of age and is wellknown throughout Texas as a long time and still very active SPJST member. He has served as the Curator of the SPJST Library, (Continued on Page 11)
Brother Tom and Sister Millie Adamek of Mesquite, Texas were selected as the longest-married couple attending the Czech Day at the State Fair held in Dallas October 16th. They are members of Lodge 24 at Cyclone.
