Our New State King and Queen SPJST Scholarship Recipient

Brenda Marek received a $500 SPJST scholarship which Lodge No. 24 Pres. David Vanicek is presenting to her. Brenda is the daughter of Johnny and Betty Marek of Temple; Johnny works at First Federal Savings & Loan, and Betty works at Book Of Life Book Store. Brenda graduated from Temple High School and is attending Baylor University as an Accounting major. She has a brother, Gary, who is a Junior in Temple High, and her grandparents are Emil and Frances Hejl of Rt. 4, Temple. (See related . story in this Issue.)

SPJST's Royalty Court, 1983-84. Shana Patterson and Donald Steinke were announced as the winning State Queen and King for 1983-84. Donald is from Lodge 35 Elk and Shana is from Lodge 47 Seaton. Donald's duke was Timmy Pavelka, also of Lodge 35. Shana's duchess was Michelle Skrabanek, also of Lodge 47. (See accompanying article for full detaíls.) IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL SPJST SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS Applicants must be qualified members of the SPJST. Qualified members are those having an active SPJST insurance certificate in force. It must remain in force during the tenure of the scholarship. Active in this case is defined as "premium paying". It is the applicant's responsibility to insure that they will be a premium paying member for the duration of the scholarship term applied for. Janine Veselka

Member Wins ''Miss Williamson County". Crown Janine Veselka was crowned Miss Williamson County July 2, 1983; she is the daugher of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Veselka of Taylor. Janine is a senior at Taylor High School this year and is involved in several school activities such as Drama, Latin Club, Student Council, The Silks (Flag Corps), and National Honor Society. She has been named in Who's Who among American High School Students for the 1982-83school year. Janine is also involved in the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry (CYO). In the local club and for the Diocese of Austin, she is vice-president and on the Deanery level she holds the office of president.

Janine is a member of Lodge 187 of Round Rock, where she has held the offices of secretary and president and has been involved with various activities throughout her years in the youth program. This past spring she was Princess of Lodge No. 187's annual May Fete. Being an active seventeen-year­ old, Janine enjoys the outdoors, cooking, sewing and meeting people. Her future plans, after graduation from High School, are to attend McLennan Community College for two years and then transfer to Baylor University or The University of Texas where she will major in Marketing and Purchasing.
