Large Group Expected To Attend Second Czech Symposium
The Seaton Choral Group, directed by Annie Jakubec, will perform a number o 47, Seaton Star Hall, May 29th. A large number of those interested in genealogy, Czech heritage and history are expected in Temple May 28-29 for the Second Czech Symposium. The theme of the symposium is "Czech Footprints Across The Bluebonnet Fields of Texas" with a focus on the pioneer Czech families of Texas. For early arrivals, Friday, May 27, 1983, the SPJST Home Office in Temple, Texas is providing tours of its Library, Archives and large Czech pioneer museum. The museum houses hundreds of pertaining to the Czech heritage which includes a replica of the log cabin built by the first Czech family in Texas. A reception will be held beginning at 4 p.m. The tours will be conducted until 8 p.m. Saturday, May 28th, the symposium activities will be centered about the Cultural Activities Center in Temple where historians and researchers will be presenting technical papers dealing with the Czechs of Texas. Also there will be specialty information booths and audio-visual presentations. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday night beginning at 8:30 p.m. there will be a dance at the SPJST Lodge No. 47 Star Hall at Seaton. Music will be provided by the Harold Strand Orchestra of Waco. Seaton Star Hall is located eight miles east of Temple on State Highway 53. Sunday, May 29th will be a full day of activities at the Seaton Star Hall. The program will start at 10 a.m. with more historical and genealogical presentations. A noon meal will be served at the hall and will include Czech sausage with all the trimmings. A feature attraction (Continued on:Page 3)

Miss Kubala Named To Distinction List Sheila D. Kubala of Burnet has been named to the Distinction List for academic achievement at Southwestern University at Georgetown. Sheila, a freshman, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Kubala of Burnet. To attain the Distinction List at Southwestern, a student must have had a grade point average of 3.6 or higher out of a possible 4.0 while taking 12 or more hours of classwork during the semester. Southwestern University is the oldest chartered university in Texas. It includes the Brown College of Arts and Sciences and a School of Fine Arts. It is under the auspices of the United Methodist Church. Miss Kubala is a 1982 honor graduate of Burnet High School.
