Marceil Malak as Lucindy Lovejoy . for years, when he discovers that Abby has ordered a husband by mail? Horace Harter is portrayed by Jerry Poston who has played several times before in other plays at the Lodge. Aunt Abby's faithful housekeeper, Lucindy Lovejoy, is also very surprised at Abby's change of heart about romance, and soon changes her own mood. Lucindy is played by Marceil Malak, also seen several times on stage at Lodge No. 88.

For thirty consecutive seasons, the SPJST Lodge 84 has sponsored a softball team which is composed of their members, to promote the SPJST Fraternal Insurance Society in the Dallas area.

Every year the team players executed a fine performance before a large audience and again this year they are awaiting your support and participation to their games at their scheduled diamonds.

Within all these years the team has earned many trophies in the City of Dallas baseball league, which are displayed in

a showcase in the foyer at their lodge home at 2625 Floyd St. To be able to function from year to year the team mates have scheduled another Benefit Dance for Saturday, April 30th at the SPJST Lodge 84, with music provided by the Czech Harvesters who perform variety-type music to young and old alike at a nominal price.

Everyone's attention and consideration as well as support and participation for this needy non-profit function shall greatly be appreciated by the team members and their spouses.

*** Tuesday, April 5 we sent the following pictures from Lodge No. 74, Lovelady and an article on same (Brother Chester and Sister Mildred Shmoldas' Anniversary and a presentation being made by Lodge 74), a letter and a picture of District V officers. It was in a special mail bag and YET it was lost somewhere between Waco and Temple and has NOT been found yet, April 15th. We regret this and surely it will show up sooner or later. The Post Office says it will! *** A recent flurry of advertisements offering auto financing at belowmarket interest rates— and sometimes no interest at all—is under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission as potentially deceptive.

More than 70 auto dealers have been 'advised that their ads promoting low rates don't meet the standards of federal law and have been asked to correct them voluntarily.

Many of the ads don't include all of the required information, according to the FTC. Some, for example, promise 6.9 percent for 24month financing, but fail to disclose the repayment terms, the annual percentage rate and • the down payment—which can be as large as 50 percent. Others offer'a special trade-in allowance for a buyer's car but don't say that deductions may be made for its cosmetic blemishes or mileage.

When shopping for a car and credit, it's easier to evaluate an offer if you get answers to specific questions: Higher price or down payment? Do you have to pay a higher price than normal to qualify for low-rate financing? Would the. price be lower if you paid cash or supplied your own financing from a bank or credit union? Does the financing require a larger-than-usual down payment-25 percent, 30 or larger?

Are there short-term limits on the duration of the loan? In other words, are you required to pay it off in 12 or 24 months? Does the low rate apply only to certain merchandise, such as cars in stock?

Is the stated trade-in allowance offered for all vehicles regardless of condition — or are there deductions for mileage, dents or rust? If the dealer offers a high trade-in allowance, is the asking price for the new car higher than it would be without the trade-in? Before choosing a car and signing a contract, find out about the terms or conditions and any other special incentives being . offered. Once you've •made a deal, read the purchase order and loan contract carefully. If there's anything you don't understand, get an explanation before signing. *** Although poisonings have decreased significantly since the introduction of child-resistant packaging, many incidents still occur. Because they do, emergency help is available

Parents should not leave an• infant in a mesh-sided playpen or portable mesh crib when the drop side of either is in the down position, warns the Consumer Product Safety Commission. In that position, the mesh forms a loose pocket that leaves a gap between the edge of the floorboard and the mesh side. An infant can fall or roll into the pocket and suffocate.

Over one-half million Texans will be, surveyed during April by American Cancer Society volunteers to determine local health and cancer awareness.

Some 40,000 ACS volunteers will conduct the survey door-to-door as part of the Society's annual educational and fundraising Crusade. The results of the statewide project will be used to plan the organization's educational emphasis geographically.

"This is somewhat of a departure for us," said Charles Oswalt, M.D. of Graham who is spearheading the study as a member of the Texas Division ACS Public Education Committee. "While we've always taken advantage of the educational opportunities that exist when our volunteers visit their neighbors during our Crusade, this is the first time we've asked their help in distributing a survey on such a broad scale."

Dr. Oswalt added that the confidential survey ' takes just a few minutes to complete and is then to be mailed to local ACS offices.

'Questions are divided into those just for women and those for men and women, all related to a history of personal health actions. For example, both men• and women are asked if they have ever been to a doctor, hospital or clinic for a proctoicopic exam. Women are asked if they have ever had a Pap Test or if they practice regular breast selfexaminations.

"Once these totals are compiled, we'll be better able to target just what our educational emphasis should be in certain parts of the state," Oswalt added.

"If the survey totals in a particular area of the state indicate that few of the men have had an examination for colon rectum cancer, then we can try to boost our educational programs on that site in that particular area-whether it be Beaumont, San Angelo or wherever."

F. Michael Schultz, M.D. of Brownwood, chairman of the Division Public Education Committee upon which Dr. Oswalt serves, points out that the survey itself .has an educational value. "It will service as a reminder that specific early detection tests are -vital to successful treatment before cancer spreads," le said.

Along with the survey, volunteers will also be armed with other educa-. tional information to help Texans know how cancer can be prevented.

Funds from the Crusade will be used to sponsor the Societ'y threefold attack on cancer through research, education and patient services.

Granger Lodge Holds Monthly Meeting Lodge 20 of Granger held its regular monthly meeting Friday, April 8th.

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by President Vera Roepke who also led the officers and members present in the Pledge of Allegiance to the USA flag.

There being no deaths of members of the lodge known, we were seated for roll call. Secretary Elizabeth Vitek called the roll and noted three absentees.

After the discussion of the minutes, our correspondence was read and discussed.

President Vera Roepke called for the report of officers and we were happy to have our Treasurer Raymond Holubec back; he had been absent due to illness.

It was brought to the attention to all present by our president about the new time change; our meetings will be at 8 p.m. the second Friday of the month.

A discussion of the District H spring meeting was held and noted only three members of our lodge attended; this meeting was held in Taylor at Lodge 29.

There being no further business, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn.

Activities Scheduled For Lodge 47, Seaton Dear Members and Friends: This is a reminder to all members to set aside Saturday, April 23 for a Work Day at the hall starting around 7 a.m. or anytime after, according to Woodrow Marek, maintenance chairman.

Also a quick reminder to all members: After our next lodge meeting Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m., 50-year pin recipients will be honored, and Youth Club graduates will be honored as well as all mothers. This will be a big day.

Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish for our after-themeeting lunch.

Lovelady Lodge Plans To Help Their YC With Project Our regular monthly meeting of Lodge 74 was held Monday night, April 11, 1983 at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting was opened by President James Wilcox.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Marie Wright.

Roll call was called by Recording Secretary Creola Wilcox. All officers were present, except Youth

Leader Linda Michka; and all trustees were present, except Larry Melson.

All reports were read and accepted by the assembly.

On behalf of the youth club, Jerry Michka thanked Dorothy and Hughie Smith for saving cans for the youth club and thanked Chester Shmoldas for collecting the cans and selling them for the youth club. The club does many things to make money for their projects; collecting aluminum cans is one of them. They are planning a cake auction at the lodge Saturday night before Mother's Day; so Dads, sons and daughters, remember Mom this year with a cake from Lodge 74 Youth Club.

Members, remember April 23rd Kelly Schoppa will be playing for us at Lodge 74. The admission for this night only will be $3 per member and $4 per guest.

We were happy to see Ms. Annie Greene of Houston visiting with us recently at Lodge 74; she is a lovely lady, and we are always happy to see her.

Our lodge grounds are real pretty now, the flower beds are' all clean, roses are budding and the petunias are blooming. Everything is beautiful and we owe it all to Chester Shmoldas who has really worked hard on the grounds which all of us appreciate it. Members, don't get so busy with your lives that you forget to stop to smell the roses, also tell your lodge brother or sister that you appreciate them.

Needville Members Heard Good Reports Needville Lodge No. 81 held its regular monthly meeting Sunday April 10, 1983. Prior to the meeting everyone enjoyed a deliciou ; covered dish luncheon at 12:30 p.n .

Sister. Mary Werner s responsible for baking the roast beef, for which we gave her a round of applause Thanks, again Mary, it was delicious.

President Charlie Matcek opened the meeting promptly at 2 p.m.

Sister Lillie Teykl led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag and we remained standing for a moment in silence in tribute to our deceased member, Brother Felix Kachinsky. May he rest in peace.

All officers answered the roll call.

Secretary Mary Werner read the minutes of the previous meeting; she also read thank you cards from the Lee Roy Kamas and Sister Frances Sitta families.

Financial report was given by Jo Ann Morgan. Treasurer Willie Mae Kuykendal gave her report. Special Fund Treasurer Gilbert Walzel reported on the activities at the hall and gave the schedule for the next month and then gave his financial report; all of these reports were accepted as given.

We are sorry to report several members who are on the sick list; namely, Jim Orsak, Lydia Sabrsula, Vlasta Holt and Willie Kocurek who is now in a rest home. Bill Fojtek who has had back surgery at Herman Hospital in Houston is now recuperating at home. Henry Hurta

8/VPSTIV1K—Wednesday, April 20, 11,0,, has been transferred from the Gulf Coast Medical Center at Wharton to the Diagnostic Clinic at Houston.

Also, Eleanora Hayden, daughter of Sister Stephanie Walzel is very ill.

We hope all of you are getting better and on the road to recovery.

For sometime there has been some discussion on improving the dance floor of the hall. As of now, final plans have been made to lay an oak floor for better dancing.

A new member, Anna Bolf, has been added to our list. We welcome you!

Sister Vlasta Nowotny gave a very good report from the District V meeting held at Pasadena; she especially was impressed by the beautiful memorial service and the interesting reports from the youth who attended the youth camp.

Brother Herbert Nowotny stressed the beauty of the Pasadena Lodge Hall and, all in all, said it was a good meeting. Eleven lodges were represented and the fall meeting is scheduled to meet at Lodge No. 88; will be hearing more about this meeting later.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. This is the beginning of our night meetings.

Lodge 88 News Saturday night, April 9 initiated 1 he Dixie Kings Orchestra at Lodge 88 to entertain the guests in the Chandelier Ballroom; by error the dance was quoted as casual, but it should have been a dress-code dance. The orchestra members were all dressed in tuxedos with a lovely vocalist in their midst. The guests enjoyed the mixed music by the Dixie Kings. The dance was in charge of Evelyn Zientek and her husband, Ed, served in the box office. Karl Lindemann with Evelyn seated the guests and Lorena Lindemann greeted the arriving guests.

In the lobby Erma O'Cpnner with her sister, Irene Slovacek, were taking reservations for the upcoming dance of Jan Garber for April 30th. Make your reservations early to obtain your favorite table.

For the Easter Season Naomi Spencer, secretary of the Board of Trustees, spent an enjoyable, brief visit in Oklahoma City with her sister, Ruth, and brother-in-law, Frank Kurz, and also Frank's sister, Martha Kahrhoff, from Hayward, California joined the family for an extended visit. Naomi enjoyed the family gathering leaving her husband, Arnold, to tend to the home fires, feed the cat, and all the squirrels roaming around their home and, mainly his pride, the garden to which he gives hours and hours of time. Arnold is a successful gardener and generous in giving his home-grown vegetables away.

Cindy and Mark Wheeler are happy parents of their first-born son, Jefferey Thomas Wheeler, who

opened his eyes to blink at this wonderful world Tuesday, April 5, 1983 at 10:45 a.m. weighing 5 lbs. and 14 ozs. Congratulations to the young parents, especially to the proud grandparents, Willie and Edna Wehring, bursting with pride.

Harry and Lillian Finn spent wonderful three weeks of vacation from March 7 to March 30. First they flew to Los Angeles, California and were met by friends, Bill and Peggy Alcorn, who presented them with the flight tickets; on the same day went to Tijuana, Mexico; while in California they visited Disneyland, Universal Studios and Hearst's Castle which was overwhelming and gorgeous. They spent some time with Lillian's cousin, Edward and Elnora Lehde, in Reseda, California and had a hottime gambling in Las Vegas for four days and enjoyed some time at Sam's Town.

April 11th is Della Kadlecek's birthday and, as usual, she is not contented with one day, so she starts to celebrate as early as possible; this year she started off with Wednesday at the Birthday Club, April 6th, next day, Thursday, April 7th at the Social Night with lots of goodies and cake during the intermission, Saturday, April 9th at the dance with the Dixie Kings and again a variety of goodies and a cake baked by Annie Green and a round of friends at the table wishing her a "Happy Birthday", Sunday, April 10th on the bus going to the races and Wednesday, again, at the Birthday Club, April 13th when we all will chime in with a "Happy Birthday Della." Can anyone top this? And the month is not over yet!

Sunday, April 10, a very enjoyable and successful trip to Delta Downs was planned by Millie Manack for 46 enthusiastic members leaving the lodge premises promptly at 9 a.m. and arriving at Delta Downs racing club at 11:45 a.m. just in time to be escorted to the club to be seated and look the surroundings over and, of course, studying the racing forms (which was Greek to me), enjoyed a delicious lunch and ready for the races of ten scheduled races with names of horses, names of jockeys and so on. It was a studious group of people deciding on the winner and rushing to the betting window to get rid of whatever the bet and return to your table and wait anxiously for results, and that is over in a split second and lots of disappointed voices are heard and very few smiling faces to be seen. It was over about 5:30 p.m. and I am sure it was enjoyed by all regardless of the outcome of our decisions made; it was fun and really enjoyed by all.

Thanks to Millie Manack being so patient to get this project over the top. It kept Millie busy to have the seats filled whenever a cancellation came in, she always found someone who wanted to go. Millie is an enthusiastic member on. the entertainment and also an important Auditing Committee member (in few words a pleasant and lovely person).

Thank you for the nice spent Sunday; it was a pleasure. At 8 p.m. we were back at the lodge.

We were glad to see Arnold Cmajdalka of Rosenberg in the Blue Room Saturday night after spending two weeks in the hospital with a heart condition. Glad you are doing so well, keep it up!

We are sad in the passing away of Sister Mary Ellen Sanderson who died April 2, 1983 at the age of 59 in Miami, Florida. Services were held Tuesday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints and she was laid to rest in the National Cemetery. Survivors are her husband, Earnest Sanderson of Miami, Florida; daughters, Benjie Sisson of Houston, Sharon Worlston of Chicago, Illinois, Peggy Gray of Pasadena; brothers, Donald E. Spurries of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Joseph H. Spurries of Leic, Hawaii; and nine grandchildren.

Mary Ellen was a Birthday Club Sister before moving to Florida.

May she rest in peace.

With sadness in our hearts we mourn the passing away of one of our devoted senior members, Mary Stasny, a native of Waller County.

She passed to the unknown Saturday, April 9, 1983 at the age of 92. Funeral services were Monday, April 11 at 2:30 p.m. and burial in the Patterson Cemetery with Rev. Lawrence Junek and Rev. Douglas Hester officiating. Survivors are a daughter, Elsie Ellis of Crockett; a son, Alvin Stasny of Waller; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. In her younger days, while living in Houston, Sister Stasny was a devoted member of Lodge 88. Our sincere sympathy to both families.

May 22nd (Sunday), the English play entitled, "Aunt Abby Answers An Ad" under the direction of capable hands of Marie Stayton, will be presented by the Hlahol Dramatic Club. Come and enjoy a lovely Sunday afternoon and let these volunteer actors know you appreciate their efforts to entertain you; you won't be sorry. Be sure and mark your calendar for Sunday, May 22nd.

The Blue Room Party is scheduled for Sunday, May 1st, 1983; tickets are available in the lodge office or in the Blue Room. It always is a wonderful party; if you have attended one in the past, you know you will love it. The time is from 4 to 9 p.m. with cocktails throughout the party, dinner and music by Ray Jurecka; get your tickets NOW for $10 per person.

Jan Garber's dance for April 30th, will be a dress-code dance and tickets are available now at $10 per person. After the dance, or during the dance, a delicious breakfast is served in our dining room by Annie Vala. Come out and enjoy yourself April 30th. Please • come dressed according to our dress-code. Lodge 154, Ft. Worth Announces Spaghetti Dinner Dear Members and Friends: Our Easter gathering is now behind us, but the memories linger on. It was a beautiful day with the exception of some wind, but no one minded. There was plenty of food consumed and then the Easter egg hunt followed. The winners in ages 6 and under were: 1st-Heather Howard, 2nd and 3rd-Tressie •Jean Sanders, 4th-Blaine Mason. In ages 6 and over: 1st-Shane Rogers, 2ndAmy Steinman, 3rd-Josh Milan and 4th-Traci Gage.

The egg toss is always exciting, winners in ages 6 and under were: Paul Sheehan and Charles Sheehan.

In the women's team; Carolyn Clevland and Marilyn Milan. Men's team included David Suges and Paul Milan, Mixed team consisted of Leann Mason and Robbie Hughitt.

The beer hunt winner was Rome Milan.

We extend a special thank you to Brother Roy and Sister Lydia Alholm for allowing this wonderful occasion on their farm. .Their so. n, Tony, and wife, Kathy, and sons, Matt, Daniel and Timothy, were in from Chicago, Illinois; they look forward to this gathering.

Sunday was a beautiful day for our District III meeting. It was good to see everyone. We did miss our president, Brother Vernon Wood, who is recuperating after surgery and our editor, Brother Rudy Sefcik, who is recuperating after a car-train accident. We wish you both a speedy recovery.

The meeting ran smoothly. After a delicious dinner and adjournment of the meeting, we all enjoyed visiting. We hope you all arrived home safely.

We will have a spaghetti dinner Sunday, April 24 at 2 p.m. for a price of $3.50 for adults and $2 for ages 12 and under. Sisters are asked to bring pastry.

Brother Joe and Sister Agnes Merlick will be leaving in the morning for Miami, Florida to visit their daughter and husband, Betty and Arno Mueller and family. It will be Joe's 80th birthday. We wish him many more.

Our youth member, Carrie Ann Clevland just returned from Detroit, Michigan where she attended the Rhythmic Nationals.

We extend our congratulations to Brother Brad Durham who was made Loan Officer of Lakeworth National Bank. Brad is also our Sokol instructor.

Benny and I enjoyed a nice visit in our home with Sister Anne Polk (Lodge 92) who now lives in Philadelphia and was here for. a 2week visit.

Lodge 183 Dear Members, The regular monthly dance was a great success; there was a house full of people and the dance floor was crowded all night. The Rejcek Polka Band played very good and to enjoy everyone seemed themselves. The lodge wishes to welcome all of the visitors, especially those from Ennis, the singles club and even five young men who immigrated from Poland, and hope they return to our next dance.

Sunday there were six members from Lodge 183 at the District III meeting Daniel and Mary Ann Roznovsky, B. J. and Betty Hlavaty, and Gracie Kneschk and myself. It was a good meeting and a committee was appointed to work out the details for having a family day for' District III once a year; let's hope we can meet all of you members at the family day.

Also, there was election of officers and Daniel Roznovsky was elected secretary and B. J. Hlavaty elected second vice president; the members congratulated them and wish them success in their new jobs.

Lodge 183's monthly meeting was also held Sunday at the lodge hall; all reports were read and approved.

It is now official: Lodge 183 now owns a new building and the

building committee hopes that everything will be completed in time to have a grand opening the second weekend in July 1983. There was a discussion on how to . arrange the kitchen and bar and the building committee will meet to work out the details.

Remember, members, you are invited to attend the dance sponsored

by KJT lodge of Arlingtoh the 23rd of April at the lodge hall; there will be a cover charge and beer and setups will be available at the bar so bring your own bottle, and let's have a ball.

Because of Mother's Day the second Sunday in May the members voted to have the meeting the 3rd Sunday in May which is the 15th of May. See you there! There was a moment of silence for Tony Sanchez's father who passed away since the last meeting and, on the sick list, was our President Phil' Boyle, who was hit by a Mack truck and received a concussion and Gracie Kneschk who is going into the hospital for foot surgery; the lodge wishes them well and hopes they will be well soon.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Another spring and another season for •our Softball Team at Lodge 84, our 30th consecutive season since we started our first team. The team has been practicing and getting ready for our first game which will be Tuesday night, April 5, at Samuel's Grand Diamond No. 1.

We hope to be ready to play, the schedule and the teams in our league will be in my next letter. The season starts two weeks earlier than last season and ends earlier, however, there is a possibility we will play a second season starting in July. .Our annual Softball Team Benefit Dance will be Saturday night, April 30 at our SPJST Lodge' Hall, 2625 Floyd St. in Dallas. The Czech Harvesters will play for our dance so start making plans to attend now; we desperately need your attendance. This is how the team makes most of its funds to operate during the season, so please remember this and come out and help support our cause so we can continue to field a team. We, at Lodge No. 84 and throughout the state, should be proud that our SPJST Organization and Czech Fraternal Society is represented in the City of Dallas by a Czech organization. As I said earlier we desperately need your support more than ever to survive during these trying times. The team will again have a sale and a lot of great prizes will be given .away. A night of fun and good dancing and fellowship will be guaranteed.

We will have about the same team as last year, with the possibility of two or three new players. We hope that a lot of our members and friends can come out and visit and root fdr our team at the games.

Kerry Goad is our field manager and Ron Coker and Ben Jarrna° are the business managers. I will again attempt to send writeups and scores of our games.

The Czech songs rang out sweet and strong as the Seaton Choral Club met to practice for the 2nd Czech Symposium May 28 and 29.

Those singing were: Otto Hanus, Martha Klusacek, Agnes Schiller, Anne Krcha, Mary Holick, Albina Mikeska, Mathu and Elsie Cabla, Dorothy Morris, Della Psencik, Thelma Bartosh, Ruby L. Bolton, Emily Stuteville, Dorothy and Jerry Pechal, Calvin Chervenka, Helen and Henry Janacek, our accompanist, and Annie Jakubec, our song leader. They also sang a birthday song for Albina Mikeska.

President Dorothy Morris presided at the meeting which followed. Martha Klusacek reported that she and Georgia Sodek, Agnes Schiller, Dorothy Pechal, Helen and Henry Janacek attended the Volunteers Appreciation Party given at the Southland Villa Nursing Home and presented a certificate from the Home to the Club.

Plans for the Spring Picnic May 15 were postponed until the next meeting in the hope that more members will be present to help make the plans. The club voted to sing at the Southland Villa April 26 at 7 p.m. instead of meeting at Seaton Star Hall.

Calvin Chervenka told of the April 16 meeting of Cesat and Czech Ex-Students and Teachers at Taylor SPJST Lodge 29. He also told of the tentative plans for the 2nd Czech Symposium genealogy and history to be held May 28 and 29 at the Temple C.A.C. and Seaton Star Hall.

All of these activities are by and for those who are interested in keeping our lovely Czech language, songs, and history alive and strong.

We have a rich heritage; won't you come join us?

The Second Annual Czech Conference of Texas -- 'Pioneer Czech Families of Texas' The Second Annual Czech Conference of Texas will be held May 28 and 29, 1983 at the Cultural Activities Center in Temple, Texas, and at the SPJST Star Hall in nearby Seaton. The Czech ExStudents Association of Texas (CESAT) and the Czech Heritage Society of Texas are sponsoring the conference.

The theme of the conference will be "Pioneer Czech Families of Texas". Leading experts in the fields of local history, genealogy, Czechoslovak history and Czech immigration to the United States will present papers. Among the subjects covered will be ship passenger lists of Czech immigrants, the villages of origin of immigrants

The Supreme Lodge will pay for the leasing of Camp Val Verde for that period, all meals, and mileage for one car from each lodge. This will probably require some arrangements on car pooling so that we do not have to pay mileage to every individual coming by automobile. As in the case of Longhorn, we are asking that you come prepared to stay for the duration of the training from Saturday morning through Sunday noon. No remuneration for mileage will be paid for those who do not stay for the entire training period. I think the reason for this is obvious. If you do have to go, back home Saturday night, we ask that you return again Sunday morning with mileage reimbursement for only one round trip..

We hope you will be making plans to attend this Youth Leaders' Retreat because there is much valuable information to 'be gained pertaining to all facets of our youth program. If you plan to attend, please send us your name, lodge number, the total number of persons coming with you, and a statement to the effect that you will be present for the entire training session. From the State Youth Director APRIL VESTNIK PROJECT ST. VENCE SLAS (VACLAV), THE PATRON SAINT OF THE CZECHS St. Venceslas (928-936, are the dates he reigned), was one of the men who did most to impregnate the nation with the Christian spirit of the West. He wanted to eliminate the never-ending attacks and invasions of the strong German neighbors so he obligated himself to deliver to them 120 oxen and 250 pounds of silver annually as a price for peace.

Venceslas gained the reputation for great piety by spending most of the night in prayer and from "the habit. of himself cutting off the wheat and grapes that the priests required to prepare the holy wafers and the wine for sacrament."

Venceslas built the church of St. Vitus, the present cathedral in Prague, as a receptacle for the arm of that saint which Henry I of Germany had sent him as a gift His great generosity to churches caused discontent among the nobility.

Boleslav, his brother, especially disliked Venceslas' peaceful methods.

He murdered Venceslas at Stara Boleslav while Venceslas was on his way to mass.

The Czechs worship Venceslas, the "Good Price Wenceslaus" of the old English song, as their Patron Saint.

He was canonized by the Roman Church and the anniversary of his murder — the 28th of September — is one of the great religious festivals of Bohemia His relics are preserved in St. Vitus Cathedral.

DISTRICT II SPRING MEETING RESULTS The spring district meeting was well-attended by the adults but poorly by the youth.

The family day concept did produce some fruitfulness but it was not as good as expected. The officers of District II wish to thank Sister Donna Pasema~n and Sister Evelyn Heese for their display of their crafts and hobbies. Brother Janacek played the accordion and his wife, Helen, sang several songs for us; also a few members from the Seaton Choral Group sang one number accompanied by Henry and Helen, then the whole assembly sang several songs and were accompanied

by Brother Janacek ending with "God Bless America" led by Sister Leona Stalmach.We would also wish to thank the audience for being so attentive and quiet and for joining us in singing these songs.

The Pledge was led by Marcy Dorotik and Linda Treumer led the prayer.

Afterwards President Vicki Dorotik honored our youth leader, Mrs. Jerome Dorotik with a birthday gift and cake made by Mrs. Alvin Kahanek; the birthday gift Mrs. Dorotik received was a lounge chair.

We also discussed the District VI spring meeting, which will be April 24 at Inez, Texas.

We made bags with candy in them for the rest home in West. We also painted blackboards for basketball.
