The Czech Ex-Students Association of Texas (CESAT) CHARLES' UNIVERSITY SEMINAR A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE "There is no place like home" is a familiar phrase we've heard on many occasions. Becoming aware of all of its implications seems so far removed from our everyday lives. When we experience many of its deviations in living in another country, the true meaning becomes reality. Early in July fifteen American students and teachers of Czech were invited to a two-weeks seminar at Charles' University in Prague. During our de-planing and checking through customs at Ruzyne Airport, all of us had anxieties; will our hosts appear to assist us with our luggage, who are we to expect, will they understand our plight, will they accept us as we are? In seconds, all of

our queries vanished into thin nothingness when we heard, "Ale, pane Souelcu, vitame Vas do stare Vlasti." The handshakes, the embracings, the pats on the backs and introductions, the armloads of pink carnations for the women brushed away all doubts. We were welcomed by good, loving and understanding hosts. There stood smiling Dr. Kouba, CSUZ assistant secretary, flanked by Dr. John whose piercing black eyes seemed to take command and Prof. Halu§kova: extended dozens of carnations in outstretched arms as her offering of friendship. Thus began our first day of fourteen such days of expertly planned programs. Mornings were devoted to lectures by Charles' University Deans of Education. (Continued an Page 8)
