Recognition Given To Sokol Corpus Christi Members

By John Stasa, Historian In our gymnastic association we have several longtime dedicated individuals who deserve honorable mention for their hard work in the past years. They are as follows: 50 Years or More Recognition Brother Frank Veselka born 19 February 1909 was admitted to the Sokol Unit at Corpus Christi in 1930. He is the only charter member alive and served as men's director in 193031, attended gym course in Dallas during 1931, attended Slet and course at Chicago in 1933, served as vice president in 1960, 1961 and 1978 also served as president in 1972-7374, served as treasurer in 1934 and from 1974 to 1979. In addition to his other duties, he found time to serve as delegate and alternate to the Southern District annual meeting. Dear Brother Frank, we are all proud of you, to see you, to be so active all the time. He also served on various committees faithfully. Frank Sijansky born 25 February 1914 was admitted to our Sokol Unit in Corpus Christi 26 February 1934. Frank and his parents, Frank Sr. and Veruna with brother, Joseph and sister, Lydia, moved to Corpus Christi from Penelope in 1933; they all transferred to the Sokol unit in Corpus Christi. Since then Frank is the only one who is still around and 100 percent members with his dear family: wife, Adela; and two sons, Jerry (with 6 persons in his family) and Randy with his lovely wife. The six-figure contract made Weishuhn the highest paid thirdround draft choice this year, Courrege said. Courrege said NFL rules prohibit him from stating exact figures. The Friday afternoon signing ended about six weeks of negotiations between New England and the Angelo State University Little All-America linebacker. Courrege said the contract package includes salary for four years and a bonus. The contract does not include the standard NFL oneyear option clause. The New England franchise has not announced the signing and probably won't until early next week. Before the contract is official and New England announces the signing, NFL officials must approve the contract. "It's a lucrative contract and I'm pleased," Courrege said. "Clayton is very pleased and thankful. I feel sure he's (Weishuhn) the highest paid third-round draft choice in this year's draft. He might be the highest paid third-round draft choice ever." Negotiations dragged for weeks because Weishuhn is a third-round draft pick, who deserved a six-figure contract, Courrege said. Normally, third round picks don't receive sixfigure salaries as rookies, the agent said. Courrege said only two of his other clients ever received more money.
