VOLUME 70 NUMBER 29

Letter of Thanks To SPJST InterFirst Bank Temple, N.A. Post Office Box 809 Temple, Texas 76503 (817) 778-4421 July 16, 1982 Supreme Lodge SPJST 520 North Main Temple, TX 76501 Gentlemen and Members of the Supreme Lodge: The Temple Leadership Council joins with me in a personal word of gratitude and commendation for your generous contribution to the Frank W. Mayborn Civic and Convention Center. Your gift of the flagpoles allowed the Center to open with essential ingredients for a firstclass operation. It is traditional and symbolic for a public building to have flagpoles, and you made this possible. SPJST is well-known for its responsible role as a "good neighbor", and your thoughtful action portrays vividly the qualities of a good citizen, and we express to you and your associates our sincere appreciation. Your contribution entitles you to a full membership in the Temple Leadership Council, and we will add your name to our roster and will inform you of meetings as they occur. Your name will also appear on an appropriate plaque to be hung at the convention center acknowledging our many good friends who have assisted us in our campaign. Sincerely, S. R. Greenwood Chairman of the Board *** (Editor's Note: The above letter was sent to our Supreme Lodge and passed on to me for publication. Mr. S. R. Greenwood is also chairman of the Temple Leadership Council and his letter thanking our SPJST Society for the donation and gift of the flagpoles to the Temple Convention Center speaks for itself. The second paragraph referring to our SPJST as a "good neighbor" shows that some of our Supreme Lodge officers are in good communication with the surrounding area, especially Temple; that was also proven in the Temple Centennial in June, 1981, especially, Czech Heritage Day, on a Friday, during that time.)

District II had more queen candidates in their YAD than any other district in the SPJST. They competed in speech presentation July 18th at Lodge 177 Academy, and the seven district queens will compete at the State Royalty Saturday, September 18, again at Lodge 177. L to R: Sherry Henze of Lodge 18, Elgin, Cara Lea Carpenter (20), Lisa Leschber (1st runner-up 187), Queen Mandy Mikulencak (20), Paula Staton (18), Ann Cox (2nd runner-up 177), Cindy Marek (174), and Shawn Burris (74). Brother F. W. and Sister Emily Stuteville of Rogers, Texas, have returned home from London, England and they are writing about some of the highlights of their trip; they write: Our tour of London included with "The Frames," Herbrand Street; we toured Marble Arch, Hyde Park, the Houses of Parliament to Westminster Abbey; Traflagar Square, Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the Guards. After luncheon we toured the greatest achievement by Sir Christopher Wren: the St. Paul Cathedral where Lady Diane and Prince Charles were married, and then we went to see the Tower of London where many illustrious persons were imprisoned and indeed met their end. We continued to tour the Shakespeare Country, Stratford upon Avon, Warweel Castle and Anne Hathaway's Cottage, the Windsor Castle (the queen's weekend residence) and leaving Windsor we crossed the long walk (a 3-mile avenue created by Charles II), then we proceeded to travel to Runnymede, Kennedy memorial and the spot where King John sealed Magna Carta. We spent an "Evening River Thames Cruise." Afterwards we went on to the Kew Gardens and Hampton Court Palace, Kew Royal Botanical Gardens, compassing 300 acres with thousands of different plant species. There were many more places of interest that we- toured, however, too much to mention.
