Donnie Victorick, head basketball coach at Snook High School, has been selected to coach the south allstar basketball team in Houston this summer in conjunction with the Texas High School Coaches Associa tion coaching school. The coaching school runs from July 18 to July 23 with the basketball game to be played at Hofheinz Pavilion on the campus of the University of Houston Thursday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m.

Victorick has been the varsity coach at Snook for the past three years and his teams have compiled a record of 115 wins and 10 losses.

They have been the state champions for their class all three years and this year's team, set two state records winning the school's fifth consecutive title and the eighth

state title since 1965. His track teams have also won the state championship for the past three years.

The south all-star squad is made up of twelve athletes from the various classifications with two from each class except 5A from which four players are selected. Victorick will report to Houston Sunday, July 18, to work with his team for three days prior to the game on Thursday.

Other honors as Snook coach include: 1980 - Fab-Knit Coach of the Year, 1980 - Texas Sportswriter Association Track Coach of the Year, 1981 - Brazos Valley Coach of the Year, 1981- Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Coach of the Year Award.

Additional honors in church and civic organizations include: past

president of Lions Club, member of Snook Volunteer Fire Department, member of Snook "Brethren Church and former president of Board of Elders, and Sunday school teacher in the youth department.

Brother Victorick presently serves as financial secretary of Lodge Snook No. 9, serves as District I president, and is a productive sales representative.

The former team members who also belong to the SPJST are: Mike Junek, Bobby Sebesta, Donnie Hejl and Kenneth Macik.

July appears to be another month with continuous indoor and outdoor entertainment, such as the one we saw briefly Sunday, July 11, at Little River and Academy on Highway 95, south of Temple. Moreover, the heat didn't seem to stand in their way while dragsters raced at the Academy Drag Strip across the river from our destination.

At SPJST Lodge 177, their District II Youth Achievement "tryouts" were taking place, approximately 200 entrants from ages 6 through 17 were competing in their choice of craft, talent and/or royalty.

From our observations, we wish to comment on the district's youngsters participation which was very enjoyable. It was also noticed that a representative from Channel 10 was filming the array of craft display.

The eight queen and three king candidates, with their duchesses and dukes, plus 1981-82 King Chris Sniitherman from Lovelady and Queen Dana Volek of Round Rock, made fine impressions as the leaders of tomorrow. The contestants' speeches were well-researched and presented with self-confidence. Our hats off to these boys and girls. It's too bad that all of them couldn't be crowned, however, Mandy Mikulencak of Granger Lodge 20 and Troy Marx of Lodge No 29, Taylor were selected queen and king respectively, for the annual honors.

District II had another successful year, which is a tribute to DYC Frank Klinkovsky; all co-workers and parents deserve much credit for promoting and fostering this type of interest.

Others who took part in the afternoon's program included SL President Nick Morris who recognized the merit point recipients from local lodge and District II levels; he was also assisted by Director Henry Vitek.

Dawn Peterson and Paula Staton, both from Elgin Lodge 18, were named Junior and Teenager of the Year, the highest achievers within a one-year period.

The SPJST was fortunate to have had another TV coverage from Channel 6 to film some of the highlights of the Royalty competition. Our Society extends its appreciation to all involved individuals, and we thank those gentlemen from both TV stations for their courtesies. With such continued and concerned efforts, we cannot help but succeed in such endeavors. ***

Do you sometimes wonder what are the worries of the average adult? Naturally the number of worries is large and diverse. There may be worries about a sick friend, concern about the possibility of promotion, or about one's children.

Fundamentally there are four types of worry; these concern health, security of position, income, and social relations.

Although it has been said that many things we worry about never happen, experiences in life do not bear out the universality of such a conclusion. Things we worry about do sometimes actually exist or happen.

For instance let's take a case history. A young law school graduate had a part-time position with an association and planned with an older law school graduate to open a law office. This young man had hay fever, not necessarily a fatal ailment but a most distressing one. He began taking "shots"' to combat the disease. He had taken several treatments and later went to a specialist's office for another shot.

Immediately after the shot was administered this young man collapsed and died. Investigation showed that the physician was in no way responsible. The condition of the young man, at that particular time, was weakened and what would normally be an adequately increased dosage overcame him.

This young man left his widow and three children; another child was expected within a few weeks.

Fortunately the backlog of insurance and the investment in a home made possible easier adjustment. Inasmuch as the widow had started home economics in college before the marriage, she decided to continue her education and eventually become a home economics teacher.

In a situation such as this young mother faced there were some obvious difficulties. She had been out of school for nine years and she had forgotten some of the elementary chemistry she had in her first college year. As a knowledge of chemistry is necessary for graduation in home economics, she decided to audit her former chemistry course, without credit.

This young widow recognized that her obligations are considerable for the next 20 years. The children have to be educated and cared for. She has to get back into habits of study, as well as devote time to her children.

As she realized so well, when she has her degree in home economics and a teacher's certificate, she should be able to make a good salary with opportunity for advancement.

This young widow has a pleasing personality and is a good student and homemaker; she should do well for herself and her children.

Her plan of adjustment was made possible by her own capabilities and the insurance her late husband had provided.

Insurance was the financial backlog which is making possible the fruition of her plans and the rearing of her family of four children.

The amount of insurance was not large, but it furnished a base so to speak. It was a manifestation of love in the highest sense, a realization of the protection the young husband desired. ***

District II will have its annual fall meeting August 8, 1982, at Round Rock. Registration will begin at 1:30, and the business meeting will begin promptly at 2 p.m. All those who register will be giVen a meal and dance ticket. The meal will consist of sausage, beans, sauerkraut and a drink and will be served from 4:30 5:30. The dance will be from 5-9, featuring the H.O.T. Czechs. Meal tickets will be $2; dance. tickets will be $3.50 for those not registering for the business meeting.

Youth club members will be treated to bowling from 3-5 p.m. and will return to the SPJST hall to eat.

Meeting of Lodge No. 25, Ennis July 8, 1982 Regular

The meeting was called to order

by President James Whitfill at 8 p.m.

The attendance book was passed for signature. Sergeant-at-Arms, Garry Mizell, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

A moment of silence was observed for Brother Ray E. Kovar.

Minutes for the June 10th regular meeting and June 30 Executive Board meeting were read and approved as read.

Youth Leader Betty Macalik gave a report on how our youth placed at the Youth Achievement Day in Dallas. Our youth also planned a trip to White Waters July 18th.'

Treasurer Albert Haskovec gave the financial report.

New Member - Patricia L. Robinson. A motion to accept our new member into lodge was made by Brother Van Fowler, seconded by Brother Martin Zapletal; all in favor so motion carried.

After all business was taken care of, premium checks were passed out and the meeting adjourned at 9 p.m. with 27 members present. Our next meeting is scheduled for August 12th at 8 p.m. Hope to see you there.

Dear Members: Our Lodge 29 meeting was held Friday, July 9 at 8 p.m. with President Edwin Adamek calling the meeting to order. He also led the members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. We then remained standing for our deceased member, Sister Mary Stanford.

Roll call of officers showed all present, except Melvin and Geraldine Steger, Michael Kaiser and Otis Lehmann.

A thank you note was read from the St. Mary's Catholic School Trust Fund in memory of Arnold Safarik, Sr. The minutes of the previous meeting were read.

Treasurer's and Property Committee's reports were also read.

An audit report of the last three months was given by Donna Paseman.

New applicants received were Patricia Sheppard, Ruby Lee Sheppard, L. Lee Snadgrass, Marcey Beth Sladek, Alfred Calwell, Lillian Ca/well and Dustin Harrison.

Donna Pasemann reported that the Youth Club met Saturday, July 3rd. She reminded everyone about YAD for Sunday, July 11th at Academy and announced that Troy Marx will be running for King. Good luck, Troy .

President Adamek announced that we have some new caretakers for our lodge. They are Charlene and Butch Gulley. Sarg and Betty Burdgess were the former caretakers and they did a real good job and we will miss them, especially Betty's good hamburgers.

Door prizes were won by Jerry Tallas, Allison Jirasek and Edith Shiller.

Our next meeting will be changed to the third Sunday in August since our District II meeting is on the second Sunday, so remember the date: SUNDAY, AUGUST 15 at 4 p.m.

July 11th Lodge No. 35 meeting was called to order by President Henry Breitkruetz.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Flagbearer Dawn Pavelka.

Secretary Rosemarie Banik read the minutes of the June meeting, and Treasurer Eddie Banik gave his report, also.

Youth Leader Rosemarie Banik then told about the YAD and the winners Elk lodge has: namely, Darrin Banik, District III king, Donald Steinke, king runner-up; Tommy Pavelka, duke runner-up; in arts/crafts first place winners will advance to State competition: Tommy Pavelka, Richard Burney;

Reported on the sick list are Leah Marek who was admitted to Scott and White Hospital; also Vlasta Motl is in the hospital and Henry Haisler had surgery but is now home. We wish all of you a speedy recovery and hope everyone cann be enjoying good health again, soon.

Jerry Pechal thanked Calvin and Dolores Skrabanek for helping put table cloths on the tables for a private party. He also thanked Woodrow and Gladys Marek for helping him put louvers on doors. He also called a special meeting of the Planning and Maintenance Committees immediately after the regular meeting. He was conducting this meeting through a brand new microphone. Sure did sound good, Jerry.

Youth Leader Mary Ann Billeck gave her report. The trip to Six Flags the youth club made June 29 must have been a lot of fun — especially for the Youth. The youth leader and chaperones came home very tired.

Birthdays celebrated in July are: Meeting Willie Kohutek, Louise Marek, Della Mares, Elmer Skrabanek, Frank Dear Members and Friends: Our regular monthly meeting Spanhel, Evelyn Talasek and Vallie started at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 6 Zavodny. Wedding Anniversaries in with President Jerry Pechal July are: Mr. and Mrs. Louis Marek, presiding. Shane Patterson and Mrs. and Mrs. Jerry Chupik and Mr. Michael Kortis led us in the Pledge and Mrs. Louis Tepera, Sr. of Allegiance. The members Congratulations to all of you!

District Youth Counselor Frankie remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of our deceased Klinkovsky announced the brother, Gust G. Schaefer. May his upcoming activities concerning YAD at Academy and the District II soul rest in eternal peace.

The members of Lodge No. 35 extend their sympathy to the William (Bill) Rauschuber family and the Albert Banik family on the death of Mr. Bill, July 5th; he will be missed.

Charles Oliver is in the Medical Center Hospital at Tyler, Texas and Truman Anderson was in a Waco hospital, however, he is at home now. We hope both are feeling better.

Door prizes were won by Helen Holub, adult and Robin Breitkruetz, youth.

We would like to thank Ervin and Peggy Dieterich for the delicious barbecue we had for our dinner Sunday. Thanks for cooking the meal, Ervin; it was really enjoyed.

She has year-byyear scrapbooks highlighting all events large and small and in some instance you might think you were on candid camera when you saw pictures that were unexpected.

Watch for pictures in the Vestnik, soon, that were made on the Fourth of July; you may think you were on candid camera!

Our president welcomed the members and guests with a brief speech and turned the program over to our Youth Leader Linda Michka.

The program started off with a speech by Past King (of 1975-76) Stephen Parrish. He dedicated his speech to the late Ray Michka, who we will always remember and love for his dedication to Lodge 74.

There was a brief history given on the origin of the Czech people. The Youth Club recognized the Czech Heritage by donating two books to the Crockett Library. They were the "Czech Language" and the "Czech Heritage".' they were given in the name of the SPJST Youth Club honoring two Czech members of our club: namely, Chester Shmoldas and Slivenna Michka About sixteen youth members displayed their talents, which we all enjoyed. The Youth Club presented the president with a birthday cake for the lodge, which he graciously accepted on behalf of all the lodge members. The entire program was truly enjoyed by all.

As your entertainment chairperson, Creola Wilcox and President Wilcox would like to thank the following people for their help and support during the festivities held during the Fourth of July: namely, Mr. and Mr.s Clayce Millwee, Ms. Nan Cade, Ms. Marie Wright, Dorothy and Hughie Smith, Larry and Cheryl Melson, Chester and Mildred Shmoldas, Mary McInnis, Jane and Bill Frazier, Andy and Faye Fowler, Grandma Stewart, Mrs. Slivenna Michka, Jerry and Linda Michka, Mary Parrish and anyone else I may have missed. We had visitors from Pasadena, Lodge 88 in Houston, Nacogodoches, Lufkin and Palestine that we know of; we appreciate these people who drove that far to celebrate with us.

Lodge Contributes $200 To Its Youth Fund Lovelady

Our regular monthly meeting of Lodge No. 74 was called to order Monday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m. by President Wilcox.

All officers and committees gave their reports and all reports were accepted by the assembly.

Youth Leader Linda Michka reported on their trip Sunday, July 11 to Academy for the 1982 Youth Achievement Day. There were 10 adults and 21 youth members who traveled to Academy. We were all proud of the results.

Chris Smitherman, last year's District II King, was Master of Ceremonies of the program.

Our talent and craft winners who will advance to State YAD are Sherry Michka in 1st place; in group talent Square Dance Team (6-12) are Jennifer West, Scott McKenney, Sherry Michka, Eric Driskell, Diana Fairchild, Scott, Listiak, Karen Daye, Craig Stone, and Alternate Kathy Listiak. First place craft winners include Travis McKenney on a butterfly drawing, Matt West on wind chimes, and Scott Listiak on his birdhouse.

Other winners receiving awards in talent are Jennifer West in 3rd place and Shawn Burris also 3rd place. Those placing in craft competition are Travis McK enny who achieved two second place awards on a turtle pillow and on candied peanuts. Sherry Michka received second place on her glass/ink dog picture, Diana Fairchild won third on a stir fried rice entry and Kathy Listiak also won third-on her bird drawing. Craig Stone earned second place on a leaf collection.

Point winners are: 1st Sherry Michka, 2nd Scott McKenney, 3rd Travis McKenney, 4th Jennifer West, 5th Kathy Listiak.

The youth scrapbook won third place.

Queen Shawn Burris, and Duchess Shawnet Burris represented Lodge 74, however, we didn't place in Royalty but Shawn gave a nice speech on a brief history of the SPJST. We can all be proud of our youth leader and youth members, as well as the youths' parents; for sure they all worked hard to win these achievements.

The mother lodge voted to give the Youth Club $200 to help defray their expenses on this trip to YAD. Mrs. Slivenna Michka celebrated her birthday Saturday night, July 10. Happy Birthday, Mrs. Michka!

We all enjoyed the Night Time Friends of Houston Saturday night; they really play our type of music.

We were glad to have Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Beazley of Jasper, Texas visit with us Saturday night.

Mrs. Nan Cade, our ticket lady, is away on a 2-week vacation, and Ms. Marie Wright was gracious enough to fill her place while she is gone.

Jeff and Hazel Moore will be leaving Saturday, July 17 for a vacation in Jamaica; so many of our members are on vacation or planning one soon, we wish them a happy but safe journey!

First of all, I wish to make a correction in my June 28th letter, in the letter where I listed Jeff Elzner as the president of the Elzner clan.

It should have been John Elzner; sorry.

Saturday night, July 10 was with the Hi-Liters playing mixed music for the lovely crowd attending the dance. The Entertainment Committee for the evening was Evelyn Zientek in charge; her husband, Ed, in the box office, Karl Lindemann seated the guests and his spouse, Lowrina, greeted the arriving guests at the door. Karl serves on our Lodge Board of Trustees and Lowrina serves on the Social Night for several years. In the lobby the "Twins" Irma O'Conner and her sister, Irene Slovacek, were attending to the advance tickets sales for the Al Pierson dance.

Mary Schenburn, an expert on creating ceramics, teaches every Thursday at the lodge during school vacation to forty and sometimes as many as 60 children. These classes will be held until the last Thursday in August. Mary is doing this for several years now and the children and parents are very proud of their children's creations; at the end they have a showing which is very interesting.

Saturday night, in the Blue Room, Herman and Lucile Reed entertained their granddaughter, Donna Cain, and husband, Steve, of Monroe, Louisiana. Steve and Donna arrived Monday and left the following Monday enjoying the whole week with their grandparents. Alex and Wilhelmina Mendosa came in with their lovely and lively granddaughter to join the foursome. Later Ed and Vlasta Zalmanek came in to relax. Ed and Vlasta are home from a 3-week business and pleasure trip from California. On their way they stopped in Reno and Las Vegas; I didn't find out how Lady Luck treated them, but both looked pleased and contented, as usual, enjoying the refreshing drink served by Nat, the bartender.

Two brave girls ventured to Las Vegas taking a straight flight with Pan Am Line. Emily Bily and friend Valetie Koh departed Wednesday and returned Saturday; not rich but satisfied, how much? Who knows?

They took in two shows, one at Bogie's Nite Club with male strippers. They didn't say how they enjoyed it, but her face blushed; naughty, naughty!

A special event took place June 28, 1982 in the Heights Hospital when, at 3:33 p.m. Kristine Elzner weighing in 6 lbs, and 13 ozs., made her entrance into this world to join the proud ELZNER family which made two sets of greatgrandparents deliriously happy: namely, Joe and Ann Elzner and Seth and Ruth Duncan.

Grandparents Wanda and Noel Kennedy and Mr. and Mrs. McClane and, of course, some consideration and best wishes to the deserving parents, Jeff and Donna Elzner.

Kristine marks the Elzner's fourth generation.

Milert and Evelyn Antrich celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a 10-day cruise and a 7,000-mile trip to Alaska on the "Sun Princess", the sister ship of the famous "Love Boat." They departed

Vegas of the east and, naturally, had to try their skill in several casinos, such as Caesar's where they also enjoyed the Fifth Dimension Show, Bally's Park Place, Harraks and last the Claridge. All these places, freely, took their money, the only lucky one was Irene's son-in-law, Pete, at the Black Jack table. All in all, they had a very good time, the trip back to Chesapeake, Virginia via the Cape May-Cape Lewis Ferry was a nice one-hour ride across the Delaware Bay and along the Delmarva peninsula. Irene arrived home June 29th with many nice memories.

Lodge Houston No. 142 Announces Free Barbecue For Their Members Our monthly meeting was called to order by President Mary Ann Kieschniek at 8:02 p.m. Friday, July 9, 1982.

The president appointed Nelson Jochen to take the guide's chair in the absence of Gus Florian.

The 29 members present stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. The members remained standing for a few moments of silence in memory of our departed Brother Benny Derkowski. May he rest in peace.

Secretary Alice Jochen had roll call of officers and read the minutes from the previous meeting. All other officers' reports were also given.

Sick members for July were Jacob Wishkowski and Libby Kovar. We hope they are feeling better and will be able to join us at the next meeting.

- YAD for District V is planned for Sunday, July 18, 1982 at Lodge No. 88. Our hopes are they many of our members had planned to support our youth.

There -will be a free barbecue Saturday, July 24th for Lodge No. 142 members at 5508 Nolda Street, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., also a free dance at 7 p.m.

News From Lodge 172, Pasadena Dear SPJST Members and Friends:

Here I am again letting our members and friends know how things are progressing with our little "Astrodome," the new home of Lodge 172.

Sometime if any of you should be driving within the Pasadena area drop by Lodge 172's future homesite about 3 or 4 blocks off Spencer going south and it's future homesite about 3 or 4 blocks off Spencer going south and it's to your left on Preston Road; there you will see the "SPJST" sign in an open-field close to a beautiful residential area.

If you wish to make a donation to our lodge, I suggest you contact one of our Building Committee members or President Dan Berry before you wish to buy anything; but, we still need a lot of tables and chairs. I would like to remind all of you again that our Grand Opening of Lodge 172's new building home will be dedicated November 7th; if everything continues to work out nicely.

Our July 17th dance with music by Dan 'n' the Boys was .,enjoyed by everyone. His music kept all of us dancing including John Mikeska who didn't have time to drink his Texas tea. I'm sorry ladies I didn't get to dance whith those who asked me to dance because time ran out. Brother Joseph Herbie and Sister Evelyn Kimmons were hosts at the door during this dance. Thanks to them and to our patrons who came to have a wonderful time. Do come back, again!

Saturday night, July 24th, we will have LeeRoy Matocha from Fayetteville, Texas playing variety music. Oh boy, let's all get-together for another great evening of fun and don't forget "BYOB". Warrenton's Annual Feast Set August 8th

Alvin Community College Class News Before we know it the summer will be gone and school will be starting. It is time to remind our readers that the Czech language course will be offered for college credit for the first time at Alvin Community College this fall. We have great hopes there will be a large number of students registering for the course. It can be successful only if we get a good response; so we would like to ask all you parents who will have students attending A.C.C. to urge them to register for this course.

The Czech language has been taught at A.C.C. since 1973, but as a non-credit course in the Continuing Education program. Mr. William Souchek taught the class for ten semesters, from its inception until 1978. Mr. Radamir Skacel and Mr. Victor Schmidt then taught the class for two semesters each. In the fall of 1981 Mr. Souchek returned to teach the class. He has been the driving force, and is largely responsible, in getting the 3-hour credit course introduced to A.C.C. Over the years Mr. Souchek's enthusiasm rubbed off on the class members, and through diligence and hard work they have been giving scholarships to students at A.C.C. for several years. Money for the scholarships has been earned by sales of baked goods at the annual Halloween Carnival held at the college, and the sale of candy and nuts at Christmas time. The first scholarship was for $150.00 per school year. Later it was increased to two $300.00 scholarships per year.

This year the class voted to increase the amount of each of the two scholarships to $400.00 per year, with the stipulation that one of the scholarships will go to a student registering for the Czech language course in August. The other $400.00 scholarship has been awarded to student-at-large Julia Sue Ellvvanger of Friendswood.

The credit course will be offered Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30, with a lab Thursday afternoons from 4:30 to 6:30. The class will convene August 24 with the last class meeting December 11.

The Continuing Education noncredit course will be taught Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 with the first class of the semester August 26. The class will end November 11.

We hope there will be a great response to both classes.

Camp Scheduled For Districts I and IV Dear Readers: I hope all the youth in District I and District IV are getting prepared for camp. We will be going to Val Verde July 27-30. Registration and cabin assignments will be from 10:30 to 12. Since lunch will be served at 12, be sure to allow enough time to register and unpack before lunch.

Listed are items you will need to bring to camp: 2 sheets, pillow and pillow case, 3 towels and wash cloths, change of clothes for each day, bath articles (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, brush etc.), long pants, tennis shoes and socks for horseback riding, bathing suit, comfortable shoes, cap or hat, tweezers and small tack hammer for craft. OPTIONAL: baseball glove, tennis racket, beach towel, money (for T-shirts and caps), flashlight.

See you at camp!

District II Camp This is just a reminder that your camp applications are NOW PAST DUE but if you have questions, please feel free to call me.

Teen campers are to arrive at camp Saturday, July 31st at about 10 a.m., and will have their first meal at lunch and will stay until about 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 3rd.

Junior group will arrive at about 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 3rd and will leave for home Friday, August 6th also about 11 a.m.

There seemed to be some questions as to when we are going and coming back so I hope this clears it up.

The other problem is that the 12year-old children have a choice to go with the teen group or the junior group and they did not mark their application, so I do not know which group you are coming with.

Another Reminder: Bring a shirt or some fabric garment that you memnassr want to paint a design on because Youth Club and Adult Members from Lodge Hillje No to. this is one of our camp crafts and you must bring your own shirt or whatever. The garment is better if it has been washed and if the material is closely woven you can do a much better job; also if you desire you may put on your own stencil or design at home. We will have a few available at camp.

The parties are being worked out this week and will be in next week's issue, so please watch your Vestnik next week for full details of what to bring to camp and what parties are planned and if a costume is recommended.

This may be late since it is after the Fourth of July, but we are requesting you to leave your fireworks at home, if you purchased them I am sorry but the camp is getting much stricter on exploding fireworks while camp is in session, so please leave them at home!

You may bring records, tapes'and ideas for a party. The teens will plan their own party, so get some ideas working and let's have some great parties each night.

District VI Enjoys Tour to San Antonio Eighty-two SPJST members from District VI visited San Antonio's attractions in two chartered buses, June 9, 1982.

The group left at 6 a.m. arriving at the Brackenridge Park at 9 a.m. to enjoy the zoo, ride the Brackenridge Eagle Miniature Railroad and the Skyride. At 11:30 we visited the Witte Museum. We ate our sack lunch in the park next to the Witte Museum.

On the way to the Alamo we stopped at the San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium for a quick tour; the flowers were beautiful.

The Alamo was a very interesting place. The members enjoyed hearing the history of the Alamo. Leaving the Alamo we saw the Lone Star Wax Museum and Pavilion; the historical characters were so real, made up in wax.

We walked to the Towers of the Americas and rode the elevator to the top. This was certainly an experience for some of us.

As we journeyed towards the San Antonio River, we stopped to visit the Museum of Transportation. The boys enjoyed the antique, classic and special interesting automobiles in the nation.

A river cruise was indeed enjoyable after a hectic pace all day.

The members had a choice to eat at the Casa Rio (Mexican food) or McDonald's.

At 7 p.m. we were on the bus heading home with our courteous bus drivers, Rudy Mozin and Jessie Garcia from the Trailways Company.

Lodges, 30, 32, 40 and 50 were represented on the tour. We are hoping to go again to another exciting, place next summer.

District VI Camp

Enjoyable

Fifty-six campers from Taiton Lodge 30, Victoria Lodge 32, Hillje Lodge 40, and El Campo Lodge 50 enjoyed three days at Bastrop State Park, June 28 - July 1.

Workshops in folk dancing, quiet and active games, crafts, swimming, sports, songs, and hiking were directed by Junior leaders and chaperones.

Upon arriving at camp each camper made a name-tag button. A swimming session followed.

Karen Kahanek served as chairman with Monica Krpec and Vicki Dorotik of Lodge 30 as cochairmen for camp. Others helping were Rodney Horelka, and Anthony and Allan Kresta.

Each night a court session was held to hear grievances. Judges for camp were Lori Holub of Lodge 50, Teresa Kulak of Lodge 40, Jason Motal of Lodge 32, and Linda Treurner of Lodge 30.

Monday night a get-acquainted party was held. Games were played

Tuesday night's program was the great "Sock Hop". Each member brought a decorated sock and wore bobbie socks. Along with the bobbie socks, each camper dressed in the "Fifties." Games were played. Our ceremonial was on "Dreaming."

Wednesday night's program was 'The Fashion From Paris" with the Eiffel Tower painted on paper as a background on the walls, latest

fashions were pinned in bed sheets.

Crepe paper and balloons hung from the ceiling. Monica Krpec served as MC describing each fashion as it was modeled by each camper. Stephanie Roye and Keith Kresta were announced as fashion winners. Other winners were Kristi Sellers, Sandi Srubar and Landis Dornak.

As the night came to a close, a friendship circle was formed and thoughts were exchanged followed by the singing of 'aunt Ba-Ya." Each morning started with a short

devotional led by Karen Kahanek and Vicki Dorotik followed by exercise led by Monica Krpec. Songs were led by Karen Kahanek. Vicki Dorotik led quiet and active games.

Folk games were led by Monica Krpec. Sports were led by Rodney Horelka, Anthony and Allan Kresta.

Others helping at camp were Anthony Kresta, Allan Kresta and John Spears led the campers on hikes. Janet Holub of Lodge 50 served as camp nurse. Elsie Brdecka was the head cook; her helpers were Georgia Henderson, Wilma Gaddis, and Vlasta Surnbera. We especially thank them for the delicious meals they served.

We were happy to have SYD Jann Wilson with us.

The campers enjoyed the string art "sailboat," plus painting a wall plaque, making autography trays, pencilholders from yogurt cups.

Each camper had a transfer put on a T-shirt: "SPJST Camp is Fun." Our chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. John Spears and Frances Motal of Lodge 32, Diann Srubar and Patsy Korenek of Lodge 30, and Janet Holub of Lodge 50.

I was deeply impressed with the creativity and talent the boys and girls had in developing responsibilities and executing their duties as leaders. They displayed good sportsmanship and had a good attitude about camping as they shared their experiences with each other in "Friendship."

Thank you to the parents of Lodges 30, 32, 40 and 50 for sending your youth to camp; thank you, again!

DISTRICT VII YAD RESULTS June 27, 1982

By Maxine Pavliska The "Sparkling City by the Sea" was the scene of our 1982 YAD, hosted by Lodge Robstown No. 117 Youth Club.

Registration was under way by 12 noon in the air-conditioned TulosoMidway Middle School Cafeteria.

Our Master of Ceremonies Charles Schandua of Lodge 185 New Braunfels, very ably directed the youth through the talent show while many adults were busy helping the craft judges most of whom were at YAD for the first time with the craft show. Color codes throughout the craft area were a great assistance in keeping the age groups and the categories in prospective order.

YAD is a group achievement.

Thanks go to all of you for making ours a success. To mention names would be very hard. I would be sure to leave someone out.

Dear Members and Friends: The Youth Club held their meeting after the mother lodge meeting, July 2nd with a good attendance.

We had a good attendance Sunday, June 27 at Lodge No. 84 in Dallas. Our queen candidate won the District III title; she is Theresa Dobecka and her duchess is Lanette Hykel. Our King Darrell Uptmor did a fine job; his duke was Kevin Dobecka.

In crafts we had 6 first place winners, 3 second places, and two in third places. All of you did real good and I am very proud of you, also wish you good luck at State YAD which will be held Sunday, August 22nd at Temple High School; camp will be held August 8 through August 11 at Val Verde; and State Royalty will take place Saturday, September 18 at Lodge Academy No. 177. July 18 we had our Lodge No. 6 annual picnic with a delicious fried chicken dinner, auction, games, cake walk, fish pond, and other items we sold for our money-making projects, which was a lot of fun. My thanks to all of you who helped contribute to the success it was again this year.

We will start baking kolache July 23rd, so we need some help. This is a start; if you cannot come first week, you may come other weeks to help out. We need all the help we possibly can get. July 23 we will also make homemade ice-cream. We need to get a date for our watermelon cut.

President Vicki Dorotik called the meeting to order. The Pledge was led by Marcy Dorotik and the prayer was said by Kristi Korenek.

There were 23 members and 14 adults present.

The minutes were read and the treasurer's report was also given.

Poems were read by Jean, Vicki and Marcy Dorotik, Karen Kahanek, Stephanie Roye and Michelle Srubar.

A thank-you note was read from Monica Krpec.

Birthday honorees for the month of July were Stephanie Roye, Kristi Korenek, Kristine Krpec and Susie Krpec.

rnuninin EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge No. 177, Academy, in behalf of the entire membership, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed lodge brother CLEDUS SUMMERS, age 50, who died Friday, June 11, 1982 in a Temple hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Newport, Arkansas and had lived in Little River-Academy since 1967. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1974 after 22 years of service.

A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

He was a member and a deacon of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Temple, and worked as security coordinator for Mobil Chemical in Temple. He was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 177, Academy.

Survivors include his widow, Mary Ann Summers of Little River Academy; two sons, Terry Owen Summers of Morgan's Point and Douglas Neal Summers of Belton; two daughters, Laurel Ann King of Belton and Kathryn Eugenia Summers of Little River-Academy; three sisters, Gracie Ball, Dolly Shelton and Lizzie Taylor, all of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 14 in Little River Baptist Church with the Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial was in Wilson Valley Cemetery, south of Little River-Academy, with full military honors. Heartfield Funeral Home of Belton was in charge.

May our departed lodge brother rest in eternal peace.

Libbie Bartek Pat Tomastik Frances Love -SPJST--

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the Resolution Committee of Penelope Lodge No. 167 on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sincere sympathy to the family of our departed lodge brother CHARLIE BARTOSH, 87, of Penelope, who died Wednesday, June 16, 1982 at the West nursing home.

Brother Bartosh was born in McLennan County and was a longtime resident of Penelope. He was a farmer, and a member of SPJST Lodge No. 167, and the Catholic Church of the Nativity B.V.M. Brother Bartosh was a former mayor of Penelope. His wife, Marie, died in 1974.

Survivors include three sons, Eugene Bartosh of Corpus Christi, Johnnie Bartosh of Houston and Henry Bartosh of Bellmead; one daughter, Mrs. Ida Fehmer of Dallas; one sister, Mrs. Mil/ie Schacherl of Mathis; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.

Thursday, June 17th at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West with Rev. Frank Miller officiating. Mass

of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 18th at the Catholic Church of the Nativity B.V.M. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Daniel Janek Alfons Pribyla -SPJSTEXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY

We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 88, Houston, on behalf of the entire membership, wish to express our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of ANTON BOZON, 80, who passed away June 17, 1982.

Born in Stare Hanry, Czechoslovakia, Brother Bozon came to this country in 1913 and was naturalized in 1938.

He was a member of United Food & Commercial Workers AFL-CIOCIC Local No. 408, where he served as Business Agent from 1963 until retirement in 1972. Formerly a butcher for Weingartens for 30 years, Brother Bozon was a lifetime member of SPJST and a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Frances Bozon; daughter, Mrs. Florence Kemmerer and son-in-law, Dr. W. W. Kemmerer Jr. of League City; daughter, Mrs. Angeline Fowler of Houston; daughter, Mrs. Rosalie Null and sonin-law, E. Raywood Null of Tomball; daughter, Mrs. Bernice Ivy and sonin-law, Gates T. Ivy, Jr. of Rockport; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children; brother, Andrew Bozon of Guadalajara, Mexico; sister, Mrs. Mary Kalousek of Houston; several nieces and nephews.

Rosary was Sunday evening, June 20, at Earthman's Chapel. Funeral Mass was at 1 p.m. Monday, June 21, at St. Peter the Apostle with Rev. Thomas Ripper, M.S., celebrant.

Sister Sefcik was born September 15, 1901 in Burleson County, the daughter of George Sefcik and Francis (Kubin) Sefcik. She had lived in Burleson County, all her life. She was married to Joe V. Sefcik June 21,1921 at New Tabor. They lived in the New Tabor community until six years ago when they moved into their home in Caldwell. Mr. Sefcik preceded her in death October 20, 1979.

Sister Sefcik was a member of the Caldwell Brethren Church, the Christian Sisters and the SPJST Lodge No. 17.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Doris) Hovorak of Caldwell and Mrs. Leonard (Lillie Mae) Wright of Hartwick, New York; one brother, John Sefcik of

Caldwell and one sister, Mrs. John (Lydia) Stefka of Caldwell; six grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.

One grandson, Randy Hovorak, preceded her in death December 24, 1979; also preceding her in death were four brothers, Henry, Frank, Joe and George Sefcik, and two sisters, Vlasta Herrmann, and Frances Hanacik.

Pallbearers were Ronny A. Herrmann, Johnnie Stefka, Daniel Stefka, Dennis Sefcik, Franklin Sebesta, E. W. McIver, Jr., and John H. Sefcik.

Funeral services were held, at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Phillips-Luckey Chapel with the Rev. Albert Michalik, pastor of the Brethren Church, officiating. Interment was in the New Tabor Church Cemetery.

To the loved ones and to our beloved sister, we wish eternal rest and may her memory be honored unto eternity.

Apparently, some insurance companies assume bigness will be the key to their survival.

In our, opinion, that's a faulty assumption.

Witness the dinosaur. Being big didn't save him. In fact, it probably hastened his demise.

For the dinosaur grew too large for his limited brain. As a result, signals took too long to get from one part of the body to another. In the end, he simply couldn't respond quickly enough to change.

The real issue- then and now -- is flexibility.„ Adapting to a changing, often confusing, environment.
