Ground-Breaking Ceremonies Held For Lodge No. 172, Pasadena March 21, 1982

News and Pictorial Scenes of Lodge Rezlivet No. 172, Pasadena These are some of the pictures taken during the groundbreaking ceremonies of Lodge No. 172 at Pasadena's new lodge site location on Preston Street in Pasadena. At the ceremonies held Sunday, March 21, 1982 there were many members from other lodges and there were some guests also attending and we wish to thank everyone for being present to witness our occasion.
We've just heard that our past lodge president, Brother Victor Peter (who was also at the ceremonies), was in St. Luke's Hospital in Houston undergoing heart surgery. We won't know anymore about his condition until later and we will post you on his recovery later. We wish you the best, Brother Peter!
District III Honors Sales Producers

Adolph Sassin Outlives Policy Brother Adolph Sassin of Corpus Christi attained a grand age of 96 December 13, 1981 and became the 58th person in the history of the SPJST to outlive the actuarial table for his life insurance policy. Brother Sassin received a check for the face amount of his policy and a special certificate granting to him lifetime membership with all benefits and privileges of an active member. Brother Adolph Sassin was born December 13, 1885 in Chlebovice, Czechoslovakia. He came to America in 1906 at the age of 21. In 1907, he was married to Mary Vesely. Three children blessed the marriage of Brother and Sister Sassin. A daughter, Mary Hermis, and a son Adolph Sassin, Jr., reside in Corpus Christi. A daughter, Maggie Kristek, resides in Yoakum, Texas. Brother Sassin also has 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His wife predeceased him on September 19, 1939. Brother Sassin continues to enjoy good health and gets around quite well. He lives with his daughter in Corpus Christi where he has resided for the past 16 years. Brother Sassin joined SPJST Lodge No. 21, Engle in 1912. The members of the Supreme Lodge and the officers and members of SPJST Lodge No. 21, Engle, and the entire SPJST salute and congratulate Brother Sassin on his 96th birthday and wish him well. The facilities of Lodge No. 25 in Ennis, were utilized for the annual Sales Representatives' Appreciation Social held Sunday, March 28, with Director Sid Pokladnik in charge. Prior to a delicious roast beef and sausage meal served by the ladies of the Ennis lodge, a hospitality hour began at 12 noon for approximately ninety persons. Brother Pokladnik, a director for 16 years, acted as host and MC and he introduced SL Vice President Bernie Gebala and his spouse, Evelyn. He also introduced Lodge 25 President James Whitfill and his wife, who helped arrange the annual dinner and thanked the ladies in the kitchen for serving the meal. Others introduced were Editor Rudy Sefcik, LAM Curator Otto Harms and Sister Justine Pokladnik. Complimentary remarks honoring the sales individuals were made by SL Vice President Bernie Gebala and Director Sid Pokladnik distributed the incentive awards. Among the three top sales producers in District III are Frances McBride of Lodge 25, Ernest Haskovec also of Lodge 25, and Hugo Kocian of Lodge 178; all three received monetary gifts; in addition to the awards, Sister McBride was also given the newly-designed letter opener and belt buckle. Brother Gebala expressed appreciation to the salespersons involved in SPJST insurance and expressed his thanks to our State Field Managers, Silas Smith and Gene McBride. He announced that the SPJST Insurance Committee, which is crucial to the SPJST, will meet April 10 at the Home Office. He also stated our State Field Managers will be holding sales classes May 3, at Lodge 25; May 4, at Lodge 84; May 5, at Lodge 180; and May 6, at Lodge 66.
