From The Editor Last weekend we journeyed to the District VI YAD in Victoria at the Victoria Community Center. Sunday, about 11 a.m., while on the road, the radio announcer made the statement that there was a shower in progress in that city and the weather pattern was moving in a northerly direction; we could hardly believe that we were hearing correctly after these many consecutive days of clear, hot and scorching weather, but, sure enough, before we reached Victoria, we travelled through two cooling showers. Of course, they did not last long and the day continued being naturally: hot.

The participation in the various divisions of YAD was not as good as it has been in the past and neither was the attendance; probably the times and economic conditions are partially due to this, however, the enthusiasm is there and we are proud of our youth. Just keep it up! No one is the loser and all are winners whether in first place or not.

Some of the talents displayed at our YADs in all categories, be it arts, crafts, talent, speeches, etc. are wonderful ideas in innovation by our youthful members and this shows that they are using their mentality well.

* Rather recently your editor heard a newscast that Congress had passed a law permitting the Agriculture Department in Washington to make low percentage loans to individuals for the purpose of manufacturing alcohol for gasohol -- that was in 1973 and, so far, no loans have been finalized! Could it be that some bureaucrats have been influenced by the oil company lobbyists? You know so oil companies have notified their stations that if they sell gasohol at their station they will lose their franchise for the sale of gasoline. This news appeared recently: The oil barons may succeed again in cheating the farmer out of a lucrative market for surplus grain and other crops. Henry Ford initially intended his famous Model-T to burn alcohol made by farmers, but this was quickly undermined by John D. Rockefeller, who persuaded the government to put a high tax on alcohol so that motorists would buy his gasoline instead.

*** George Horace Lorimer, for many years editor of The Saturday Evening Post, once wrote these words: "It is a good thing to have money, and the things that

Your editor wishes to emphasize that the things that money cannot buy would make a long list. Here are some of them: money cannot buy real friendship; friendship must be earned. Money cannot buy a clear conscience; square dealing is the price tag. Money cannot buy the glow of good health; right living is the secret. Money cannot buy happiness; happiness is a mental attitude, and one may be as happy in a cottage as in a mansion. Money cannot buy sunsets, singing birds, and the music of the wind in the trees; these are as free as the air we breathe. Money cannot buy inward peace; peace is the result of a constructive philosophy of life. Money cannot buy character, Continue the list yourself. You will agree that among the things money cannot buy are some of the most valuable treasures life has to offer.

MOGONYE REUNION The annual Mogonye reunion will be held Sunday, August 10, 1980 at the Elgin SPJST Hall. Each family should bring their favorite dish for a pot luck noon meal feast. Iced tea and coffee will be provided; also, bring "white elephant" gifts for the afternoon games.

*** VYVIAL REUNION The second annual Vyvial reunion will be held Sunday, August 10th, 1980 at the American Legion Hall in Rosenberg, Texas; may it be that all of the relatives pack a covered dish and come spend a day with us?

Reunions JURCIK REUNION The annual Jurcik reunion will be held Saturday, August 2nd, 1980 at the Sokol Karel Havlicek Borovsky Hi-way 34 East at Ennis, Texas. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with dinner following. Each family needs to bring a picnic-type meal and utencils with enough food for their family and guests. The food will be served buffet-style to all present. Drinks may be bought at the hall; also the swimming pool will be open and you may go swimming at a regular fee. Friends are invited to attend and enjoy the fellowship of the reunion with us.

*** DUSEK-ADAMEK REUNION The Dusek-Adamek reunion will be held Sunday, August 3rd at the SPJST Lodge No. 35 Hall in Elk, Texas. A noon meal will be served and everyone is asked to bring enough food for their family and guests. Drinks, plates and accessories will be furnished. Make plans to attend and see family and friends you may not have seen since the last reunion. I am looking forward to seeing you there.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON The weather is still dry, as it was for several weeks now, and a little sprinkle here and there does not help very much.

For two days, we had a cloudy sky which brought the temperature down a couple of degrees, but rain is what we badly need to bring relief to all concerned.

The ballroom floor is finished, but if it will be abused with spills of all kinds and liquids, then it will be long and the floor will be in the same condition. As before, the regular activities started with the social night on Thursday; Friday, the Telstars Orchestra entertained the young and older guests; Saturday, the Knights of Dixie and Sunday, the Blue Room Party took place with a moderate attendance. Everyone present had a wonderful time and enjoyed the Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m., with cocktails and dancing all through the evening with the Jurecka Orchestra playing favorite tunes; at 6 p.m., a delicious buffet dinner was served and all of this for a mere $10. The Blue Room Committee worked hard on it and is pleased if it was enjoyed. I hope there will be another one before the end of the year; if so, don't miss it!

Sister Dorothy Pflughaupt is still limping on account of a table falling on her toes while being nice in helping to set up tables on Thursday, for Mary Schenburn 's painting classes. For the first day, from 10 to 2 p.m., Mary had twenty-one present and the second Thursday, there were thirty-two present who all enjoyed it very much.

If you are interested, come out because Mary will be teaching through vacation time.

Sister Ruth Durham had company over the weekend: Gerry Chenevert with his friends from Dallas who were anxious to see the famous Honky-Tonk of "Gilley's", which now is a very famous place; everyone thinks it is a must to see it.

Sunday was a sad day for Tom and Clara Jecmenek when they were informed of the ravaging fire at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Pat Walker. This horrible fire destroyed the home completely. I have no news how the fire started, but luckily no one was hurt.

For eight days a Hawaiian vacation was enjoyed by Karl and his wife, Arnel Hassebrock, and other five couples of Brenham, Texas; the six couples had a grand time exploring three islands.

They departed from Dallas July 7th and arrived in Texas July 15th. It seems that Karl and Arnel do a lot of celebrating since their 33rd, June wedding anniversary and are still going strong; there might even be more before the end of the year.

This coming Saturday, August 2nd, Ed Gerlach with his 16-member orchestra will entertain in the Chandelier Ballroom. Advance tickets have been on sale for quite a while. Do you have yours?

Sunday, August 3rd is our Annual Homecoming Day for the members. A FREE dinner will be served at 11:30 a.m. to the members, and guests will pay the regular price; concert music by Joe Patek will be performed in the gazebo from 12 to 4 p.m.; a social will be held in the ballroom from 2 to 4 p.m.; and FREE dance from 5 to 9 p.m., with music by Lee Roy Matocha. LODGE NO. 13, DIME BOX

Dear Members and Friends: President Claude Flippen called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, July 20th.

4 There were thirty-four members and two visitors present. We had the roll call of officers with ten present and three absent.

Our Secretary Sister Olga Nimtz read the minutes from our last meeting. They were approved as read.

I would like to welcome three new members: Dan Dale Iselt, Lisa Gaye Iselt and Kristopher Greg Kocurek. We welcome all of you.

We discussed and appointed a committee to repair the outside beerstand for the upcoming picnic season.

With no further business we had the drawing for door prizes: 1st Olga Nimtz, 2nd Denise Iselt, 3rd Margaret Mikulin.

The meeting was then adjourned.

SPJST served barbecued sausage wrap-arounds and corn-on-the-cob, at the Elgin Park. Saturday, we hosted an Open House at our Stardust Ballroom for the Alumni Get-Together, with a big dance planned for the evening with music by Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six. At our June monthly meeting, Brother Floyd Felfe gave us a very informative breakdown of the convention agenda. Delegates: Floyd Felfe, Albert Mikulencak and Jimmy Mogonye, we appreciate you!

LODGE NO. 18, ELGIN

Dear Members and Friends: Our members are staying quite active. They were getting ready for the Watermelon Festival and our Elgin Western Days held recently.

Our Youth Department has been instrumental in the preparation of the float; a group of swell kids.

The Western Days Dance held Saturday night with music by Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six and then on Sunday by Leo Majek were enjoyed very much and we thank everyone for being with us.

LODGE NO. 18, ELGIN

Dear Members: The past several months have been pretty hectic for a number of our members with illnesses and deaths. Our prayers are extended to each family.

Most recently is 'the loss of Brother Ben Raschke's wife, Sister Evelyn.

We are all real proud of the City of Elgin's accomplishment in being one of the six cities to receive the Beautification Award. A big drive was on for a Cleanup Day in our City Park with a good turnout.

All business places were ready for the Annual Western Days activities which were held July 25th and 26th. The Elgin

LADIES' CIRCLE, LODGE NO. 92, FORT WORTH

Dear Members and Friends: This is a record breaking hot summer. I believe this is the 26th day of temperatures over 100 degrees and no rain in sight.

We had a very nice and well-attended meeting on July 10th with about 50 in number.

We did not have a meeting in June because of our trip to Fairfield, it was reported the following had been in the hospital: Lillie McMillen, Bennie Hundle, Lillie Matusevich and Joe Merlick. We are glad that each of them are now at home and doing fine. In fact, most of them were at our meeting.

We were very sorry to hear of the death of Margaret Langer. Our sincere sympathy is extended to her family.

It was decided that we will visit the Ladies' Circle of Lodge No. 84 in Dallas on September 4th. A bus will be chartered to take us to Dallas. There will be a small charge for those of us who are going. It will be a Citran, air-conditioned, bus which will hold about 45 to 51 passengers. We are to be at the hall and ready to go at 8:45 a.m. Please make your reservations at our August meeting.

This trip will take the place of our September meeting.

A discussion was held to donate-the cost of the replacement of the floor covering in the kitchen in the hall. A committee vâ– as appointed to find out how much it would cost for the material and labor; it was also suggested that maybe a ceiling fan could be installed in there to help cool it.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to the following who had birthdays in June and July: Tillie Gillis, Bessie Prochaska, Rose Strnad. Christine Zich, Eleanor

Svacek, and Clara Marchioni whose birthday was the one in July.

The hostesses for August 14th meeting will be Florence Greer, Esta Belle Hubenak, Inez Krivanek, Mary Hubenak, Flora Koci, Lydia Palachek and Mary Palachek.

The door prize was won by Rose Nesedony.

Games were played after a very delicious lunch was served by the hostesses.

Until our next meeting, try to keep cool and pray for rain.

LIBRARY, ARCHIVES, MUSEUM Dear Brothers and Sisters: At last we have started on the construction of preparing our basement for the Library, Archives and Museum and while the work has already started it will be quite some time before it is completed for us to move the LAM department down there, but the planning has to start now and continue until completed.

In the museum we would like to build an old time country Blacksmith Shop like we used to see on practically every farm and, to do this, we need a small old building built of 1" x 12" that is well-weathered. We want to build this 6' x 8' at least 6 ft. high covered with old rusty metal roofing. If you have such materials as 1" x 12" up to 6 ft. long that are well-weathered and old and would like to donate them or a small building that is in your way, we would like to hear from you. The building will be built in our basement in the museum department and a complete blacksmith shop installed which we already have. We will put a sign on the building showing the donors name which will be a nice advertisement for you.

We would also like to find a Go-Devil Cultivator, a small windmill, a Five-Shovel Cultivator; these three items would help us round out the farm display of the pioneer era, and will be a permanent advertisement for any donor of these items. If you have any of them we would appreciate hearing from you. If you would like to see the museum before making such donations we Invite you to come and see the museum for yourself any day Monday through Friday and any other time; just call me at home and I will come down and show it to you.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Our regular monthly meeting was held July 14 with President Mildred Holeman presiding. The members stood in a moment of silent tribute to departed members Karen L. Gaeke, Agnes A. Kaspar, Joseph L. Peska, and Ted E. Pritchett.

1st Vice President Tillie Helmcamp thanked Norval and Frances Crossman for the great job they did with the Hospitality Room at the convention, where all of District V enjoyed beautifully prepared food. Financial Secretary Josephine Pflughaupt gave the insurance report for June.

Treasurer Margaret Allbritton and all committees gave good reports. For the Youth Club, Sister Dorothy Pflughaiipt announced that Sister Mary Schenburn is teaching a Ceramics Class each Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Entertainment Committee Chairman Harley Cox announced that the Big Band music of Ed Gerlach will be in the

Chandelier Ballroom August 2. Tickets are now on sale at $7.00 per person.

Brother John Hilsher informed the members that barbecue with all the trimmings will be served on Homecoming Day, August 3. Vice Chairman Gene Barcak reported on actions of the Board of Trustees since the last lodge meeting.

Members on the sick list were Albert Bristik, Amos Kadlecek, Wilhemina Mendoza, Denise Mechwitz, and Mark Wahlberg. We wish all of them a speedy recovery.

District Sales Representative Evelyn Mikeska announced that the top sales people for May were Mildred Holeman and Jerry Prochazka; those for June were Anne Robinson and Tommy Lostak.

Door prizes were won by Estelle Kelly, Doris Knapick, and Willie Mae Ermis. The special prize from Liberty Savings and Loan was won by Viola Cox. Refreshment donors were Jack and

Mildred Holeman in honor of their 33rd Anniversary and also their son's birthday.

LODGE

NO. 177, ACADEMY

Dear Readers; July 6th, the meeting was called to order by President Tomastik.

All lodge officers were present, with the exception of Vice President Bill Hutka and Frankie Hutka.

The minutes were read by Secretary Dorothy Lisenbe.

Since our last meeting, the lodge has chartered two buses: one for the youth club so that they may attend Six Flags and the other one for the lodge members and guests so they may attend the Houston-Astro game. Everyone who

6 attended these activities certainly had a good time and expressed their thanks for being able to attend these functions.

All committee chairmen who were present gave their reports. We are still showing much progress and we hope everyone enjoys our activities at the lodge premises.

New members who joined and were accepted into Lodge No 177 are Jason M. Faucett, Jennifer M. Faucett, Janna M. Faucett, Jacob A. Faucett, James Brandon May Bridgette Dianne May Caty R. May, James A. May, Larry J. Harmon and Lila L. Harmon. Welcome to Lodge No 177, Academy and thank you for joining our lodge; you are always welcome to the meetings and lodge functions.

The Board of Trustees met with all present. Otis Beck reported they had a short meeting. The lockers were installed by Jerry Tomastik and Wimpy Bland. The ceiling fans were installed.

Youth Leader Bettye Hawk gave a youth report. She stated the club thanked the lodge for the bus. She also said they would be going to the superslide and maybe Astroworld. The club is checking on the information to Astroworld. Bettye also stated she would like to have the lock changed on the youth room. A motion was made for Cecil Lagrance to fix the lock.

A security guard has been hired to be at the lodge premises on game nights; this is a good policy for our lodge, so come out and have a good time on game nights.

Here's hoping everyone is enjoying summer and keeping cool. I will see you at the next lodge meeting August 13th; the youth club meets at 6:30 p.m. and the lodge meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.

Come out because you will certainly be welcome.

LODGE NO. 28, EAST BERNARD

Dear Members: The August meeting will be held in our hall, at 2:30 p.m. CDT, on the 3rd.

The agenda will cover the regular reports, a report from the Finance Committee, and anything of importance that needs to be taken care of at this time. A social hour, as usual, will be held after the meeting.

The July meeting, held on the 6th, had all of the regular reports accepted. A brief report on the XXIII Convention,

While Supreme Lodge President Morris was making his opening statements, the other SL officers were seated at the table reserved for them. R to L: Vice President Gebala, Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, Financial Secretary Mikulas, Legal Adviser Lesikar. At the end of the table we see Convention Planning Committee Co-Chairman Dom Netek. catching the high points, was given by this writer. We had hoped to go over the convention from the minutes but so far and, as of this writing, have not received the book form.

A picture of the convention delegates in front of the Alamo was presented to the lodge by the delegates.

Of the four-key members on the sick list, Brother and Sister Sperlik were still on it at the time of the meeting; both are home recuperating and, at last contact, were doing as well as can be expected.

Prior to the meeting, Sister Sperlik informed this writer that she will not be able to continue as Resolution Committee chairman and asked to be relieved of this post. Knowing of her health problems, we accepted her resignation with great reluctance. Sister Frances Havrda was appointed in her place. Now, at this time, the Resolution Committee consists of Sister Havrda and Brother Lupik.

The door prize was won by Sister Aline Kortis.

The "Kaffee Klatsch", although small in number, went well with those present having an excellent time. The lodge furnished the drinks and some of the sandwiches./ Sisters Kortis, Havrda, Brdecka, Luquette and Nezval furnished the additional trim to make the party. This year is already two-thirds gone and it seems only yesterday that we were holding our annual meeting. Now, it is almost time to hold this year's annual

meeting. Also, it has been several yesterdays that some of our members have shown their faces in the meeting.

We would enjoy seeing some of your bright and shining what-ja-ma-callits in the meeting. If you think the hall is hot, it is not so bad with the ceiling fans. We are now in style and fashion with our antique ceiling fans; these fans do a good job when the windows are open.

Naturally they are not as cold as air-conditioning but they are OK and do not cost as much to run.

By the way, at this writing, this writer washed his truck so we should get some rain very soon. The last time he did this we had floods and in some places people could not get out of their houses.

Well, enough has been said. I'll see you faithful and loyal ones on Sunday.

LODGE NO. 74, LOVELADY

Dear Members and Guests: Our regular monthly meeting was fairly well-attended. President James Wilcox convened with the pledge of allegiance to the United States flag, followed by a moment of silence in memory of the ones in the past who cannot be with us anymore.

All the officers had good reports, and

7 meeting to order and welcomed guests: Ralph Gribble, Mary and Benny Pavey.

The minutes of the previous meeting were not read, because I left them at home. Other business was conducted.

Members who signed up for the bus trip for September 4th to Dallas should pay their $4 fee for the bus trip at the August meeting, so please try to attend and get this taken care of.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Louis Belota, Rose Steinman, Carolyn Cleveland and Jeanie Mason. Then the meal and games were enjoyed by everyone.

Hostesses for the August 6th meeting will be Bessie Prochaska and Annie Belota. I will not be at the August meeting because we will be going on a trip to Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska, and, hopefully, we can bring some cool weather back with us.

LODGE NO. 66, WACO all the reports were accepted.

There were some questions asked by some of our members: What type of activities the youth club may do to be supported by the mother lodge? As all of us know, kids are kids, they are looking out to have a good time. The way I see it, the youth club was organized for the purpose to develop the talent they already have, and also to teach them morals and more about the SPJST Society. Most of the members including myself, thought it was wrong for the youngsters to go to Astroworld and Six Flags and go roller skating to far-away places; that doesn't have connections with the SPJST Program. We hope our youth club program will influence our youth members to become good leaders in our SPJST Society.

Now, for two years or more, the mother lodge, with the help of the youth members, worked hard to build up a fund for a new floor, so together with the 8 percent premium refund on premiums paid on their insurance lodge dues, garage sales, and other ways and means which many people reported; we have finally arrived with enough money to put up a floor that our lodge can afford, which was recommended by experts who know about various types of floors and the business. Our lodge is very fortunate to have a member, Brother Ray. Johnston of our lodge, who is an expert in the floor work and knows all about different kinds of floors that are best suited for our lodge. Ray had the authority to go ahead and proceed in purchasing the floor

material. There have been a lot of members involved in getting off the old flooring that was in very bad shape, it took a special machine to cut off the old flooring and after the flooring was taken off, there still were several days of work sanding off the glue. It took about seventy hours of hard work that was donated by our hard-working members; with today's labor cost, the members saved at least $700 by donating their work. Thanks very much to those who have taken part in this project.

The special machine and sanders were furnished by Ray Johnston. We are also looking forward to improving our parking area which is badly needed.

Let's all buckle down and work in harmony for our mother lodge.

THE FRIENDSHIP CLUB

I hope everyone is staying cool with the one hundred plus temperatures we have been putting up with for the past month. We have a possible chance for rain this evening and will definitely welcome it plus some cooler temperatures.

I usually have fifty to eighty quarts of pickles put up by now but with the constant heat watering doesn't even help them and I have canned two quarts.

Sister Bonnie Pruitt read the minutes of the June meeting. They were approved as read.

The Board of Trustees' minutes of their meeting held Wednesday night, July 2nd were read by Sister Anna Vernetti (sitting in for Sister Darlene Engelke who was absent, due to the illness of her husband, Brother Bennie Engelke who is recovering from a recent heart attack). Brother Bennie is at home doing fine but has to take it easy for a while. We all send our get-well wishes for a speedy recovery. Good luck to you, Brother Bennie! We wish to thank Sister Anna Vernetti for the excellent job she did.

Brother George Shilling reported on the Entertainment Committee activities. The 1981 New Year's Eve Dance has been booked. The Starlites will play. Just a few dates are left to be filled for 1)81. After today's meeting, popcorn, chips and beverages were served.

Health Committee Report---Brother Bennie Engelke has been ill but he is at home doing OK. Sister Irene Mueller's father passed on, so remember him in your prayers. Sister Ruby Orsag fell at her home but there were no serious injuries, just a lot of aches and pain. We all wish Sister Ruby a speedy recovery; take it easy, Sister Ruby and be careful.

We all hope Sister Sue Pauling is feeling better. We missed you, Sue. Good luck and take care of yourself.

It was brought up that Lodge No. 66 host the District III Youth Achievement Day on the last Sunday in June of 1981.

It was voted that Lodge No. 66 ask for the YAD in 1981, at Linden Hall.

Due to the ice-maker machine going on the blink, the Board of Trustees was given approval to check on the purchase of a new machine.

Door prize winner was Sister Mary Alice Langlotz.

Members celebrating birthdays in July are: Sisters Glenna Dungan, Rose Mary Spence, Polly Gaidusek, Mary Alice Langlotz, Leona Nors and "The Birthday Boy", Brother George Shilling having a birthday today, his 39th. The cake was brought by James Yates.

Happy birthday to each of you! Little Anna Nors, Sister Leona Nors' granddaughter, blew out the candles on the cake.

Perhaps, the weather will be cooler then and the attendance will be better. We hope that we will also have some good rains by then, at least.

LODGE NO. 183, MID-CITIES Dear Members: The monthly lodge meeting was held Sunday, July 13th. President Hlavaty called the meeting to order and asked Nancy Hlavaty to lead the memberl in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Pictures I had taken during our stay in San Antonio while attending the convention, plus the group picture of all the delegates were on display throughout the meeting. I gave a short summary of the convention and the socials we attended.

President Hlavaty introduced and made welcome visitor, Jerry Elleven, who is a member of Lodge No. 172, Pasadena.

Also present for the first time was member John Sill. We hope they will come again.

Business discussed was the leasing of a building for the purpose of holding SPJST lodge meetings and other related activities and socials. There is such a building under consideration. The meeting was recessed briefly while officers and interested members toured and inspected this building. Upon their return the meeting resumed. The vote was unanimous to lease this property. A business meeting is to be held at the home of President Hlavaty Tuesday of all the officers.

No meeting was held for the youth club because only two ihembers were present.

Youth Leader Katy Griffith asked that all camp applications be mailed to Ed Kamas, District 111 youth counselor.

Since there was no other business, the

meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served.

Negotiations are taking place on the rental property. During the special business meeting equipment, furnishings and finances were discussed. I will have more details at a later date.

The next meeting will be held Sunday, August 10th, 1980, at 2 p.m. in Arlington at the Arlington Downs Townhouse Clubhouse, located on Westview Terrace just off Fielder Road.

We had the roll call of officers; all were present, except President Edwin Adamek; he sent word that he was busy combining maize.

A report on the senior members was given and they said that they are still having good turnouts at their monthly socials.

Vice President Rieger reminded everybody about the District II fall meeting, which will be held at our lodge hall Sunday, August 10th, at 2 p.m.

Registration will begin at 1:30. The meeting will be short and then there will be a social and dance, beginning about 3:30 p.m. The youth members may go swimming or stay at the hall. The music will be by Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six; supper will be served at 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. and then some more dancing.

There will be plenty of cold drinks.

Everybody who plans to attend this meeting including the other lodges, is asked to bring two dishes: vegetable, salad or dessert. The meat will be furnished. The fall meeting is usually a social event so we hope to see many of you at the event and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and socializing.

Youth Leader Melvin Steger reported that he had thirty-eight members attend the meeting: ten adults, two visitors and one member joined the club. At YAD held Sunday, July 13th, they placed first in their scrapbook, several other youth members placed in different divisions.

State YAD will be held in Temple,

August 24th. The youth club will go to the special Event's Center in Austin Friday, July 25th and see the Ringling Brothers Circus. Brother Steger said that camp will be held next week, July 26th.

The door prizes were won by Ila Mae Jansky, Valasta Rozacky and Jerry Tallas.

Our next meeting has been changed to August 17th, at 4 p.m. since the District II fall meeting is on the second Sunday.

The youth club will meet August 10th, at 1 p.m.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: The last lodge meeting was held Monday, July 7th, 1980, at 8 p.m. with President Jerry Pechal presiding.

Flag Bearers David Pechal and Gene Skrabanek led the pledge to the flag.

We remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of Brothers Ronald Wayne Motl, 13, of Kerens and William Joe Chaloupka, 62, of Temple. Our deepest sympathy to all of the survivors of these departed members. Brother Ronnie Motl lost his life in a swimming accident in a pond and Brother Chaloupka had been in ill health for two years; both of these will be missed by their loved ones. May they rest in eternal peace and honor to their memory forever.

President Pechal welcomed all to the meeting and recognized the visitors: Marylou Skrabanek and Ann Balusek.

Secretary Sister Ginger Klusacek was called on for the roll call of officers, sales representatives, and read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were approved after a correction.

Mortuary dues from the Supreme Lodge were the only, correspondence.

The Investigating Committee approved the following and members voted to accept: Brian Hugh Anglin, Ronald Brian Sandefur, Bradley Stephen La Prade and Lester Wade Williams into the lodge membership.

We welcome you, and hope you will become active in lodge activities. Albert J. Klinkovsky transferred from our lodge to Lodge No. 155, Austin.

Secretary Ginger Klusacek stated that get-well cards had been sent to: Mrs. Lester Gunn, the sheriff's wife, Sisters Lowvica Lucko and Nancy Chlapek and Brothers Joe V. Chlapek, Ed Schneider and Jean Butler.

Since the last meeting, Brother Alfred L. Klusacek had been hospitalized for broken bones right above the ankle since the meeting; also Sister Ann Shenkir, assistant youth leader, who had surgery. We hope you all are recovering from whatever ailment or surgery and that each day you improve to regain your health, again. Get-well soon, because you are being missed!

All of the chairpersons gave good reports as well as the officers. Thanks to all for working so hard to keep the lodge operating so smoothly. When you are asked to work, please help if at all possible. Also, we have a roster for the kitchen and the bar posted; if you could put your name down for any month not filled now, it will be deeply appreciated by the president. He hates to draft someone, so please volunteer.

Planning Committee Chairman Elmer Skrabanek stated that not all of the lights, signs, and bulbs had been received and when available will be installed. Most of these were installed last weekend. The maintenance set the filter cleaning for Saturday, July 19th which they did. Cleaning Chairman Brother Emil Hejl stated that Brother Henry and Sister Della Mares do not help them clean now and asked that if any couple would be willing to help them to contact the Hejls. Sometimes it is too much for one couple when the time is limited until the next function.

The Audit Committee gave their report for this quarter.

;YAW Also on Monday afternoon, the delegates were honored by the presence of Executive Vice President Ray Klee from Chicago, affiliated with the National Fraternal Congress of America [NFCA]. He is shown here addressing the delegates with a very poignant and appropriate address.

Trustees' meeting and a question arose about the motion on the passes being good for all dances, regardless of price, except the out-of-state bands.

President Brother Pechal reported on the convention and then the other twelve delegates also gave highlights and observations of the various changes voted on. Brother Nick A. Morris, also, spoke on the convention.

We voted to start having our meetings on Sundays for the remainder of this year. The next meeting will be held Sunday, August 3rd, at 2 p.m.; let's see a large number present, also the lunches will be resumed. The October meeting will be September 28th in order for the Choral Club and maybe others wishing to go to Czech Day at the State Fair, October 5th, to not miss the meeting.

Shirley Patterson, youth leader, gave her report. She had stated that Joseph Morris and Michael Morris will represent Lodge No. 47 in the King Duke Competition at District II Youth Achievement Day held Sunday, July 13th, at Flag Hall; also, the youth club went to Six Flags Over Texas, Saturday, July 19th. District II will be going to Camp Val Verde from July 26th to August 1st. I hope they have an enjoyable camp and the weather is cooler by then. Wishful thinking!

LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday, July 13th, 1980 at the Grant Building with a large attendance. President Zabransky called the meeting to order, followed by the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Gaynelle Chudej of the Resolution Committee read a resolution of sympathy for our departed Brother Ludwig P. Quitta.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Erwin Holy.

Correspondence followed.

Youth Leader Erwin Holy reported that the youth club is getting ready for YAD and making plans for entertainment for Family Day. Treasurer Helen Zabransky gave her report.

Convention reports were given by Erwin and Evelyn Holy, Linda Mikush, Frank Zabransky, Helen Zabransky and Annie Zabransky. The reports were informative.

The members voted to have our annual Family Day Sunday, August 10th at the American Legion Hall. It was then discussed and planned with committees named. The noon meal will consist of sausage, potatoes, sauerkraut, bread, pickles, peaches and pastries. The ladies of the lodge are asked to donate pickles, peaches, cakes, pies, or kolache to be served. There will be a fee for dinner as usual. A short meeting will be held following dinner.

District VI Director Brother Matt Vanek is planning to be with us. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided following the meeting.

Refund checks were handed out and the meeting was adjourned. Refreshments were served and games were played. Lunch was enjoyed by all.

Dear Members: Lodge No. 17, New Tabor held its regular monthly meeting July 3rd with all officers present.

Youth Leader Susan Trcalek reported that we had two first place winners at YAD. They are Melissa Surovik in Talent and Holly Suehs in Foods.

Congratulations to both of them.

We have one new member, Paul Ihlenfelt, who transferred from Lodge No. 186.

Alvin Glen Schiller and Betty Orsac took out additional insurance.

The convention was discussed.

It was decided that we need some repairs done on the hall, mostly window woodwork replaced and painted which will be done.

We decided to consider cooling equipment for the hall. The hall has been very uncomfortable this summer, but since it is as late as it is, we probably will wait until next year, but nevertheless, something needs to be done.

I am sorry I got a late report on Brother George Tesar who had open-heart surgery, but we were happy to hear he is doing so well; you can't keep a good man down.

We extend our congratulations to Debbie and Stewart Crabtree who were wed in the Peace Lutheran Church.

Debbie is a lifelong member and the daughter of Brother Emil and Sister Sally Milan.

I had the pleasure Sunday to attend the Fire Insurance Meeting held at our hall, which was well-attended and everyone enjoyed a delicious barbecue dinner, prepared by Sisters Mary Hale, Elizabeth Gregory and Brother Joe Gregory following the meeting.

Some parts of Fort Worth received a little shower, but none our way.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS Dear Brother Editor, Brothers and Sisters: The up-to-date information in the Vestnik of the SPJST XXIII Convention held June 9th through 12th is incomplete; some slow paper work.

My sincere congratulations to convention Chairman Brother Sid Pokladnik and Vice Chairman Brother Jerry Prochazka, also San Antonio Lodge No. 133 leaders: President Brother Emil Matula and Secretary Brother Dominic Netek.

As an Honorary President of Lodge No. 79, I wish to thank all, in behalf of the entire membership for selecting the Corpus Christi for the XXIV Convention site in 1984. The City of Corpus Christi is well-known as one of the most popular tourist cities in Texas. There may be some delegates who attended the XIV Convention in 1944, and remember the kindness and hospitality.

The city population was around 60,000 and now it is about 220,000.

In the Vestnik dated June 4th, there

11 were many pictures and some previously known to me for many years: Sister Josephine Zalesky who celebrated her 90th birthday. She is known by me since 1909, when she attended the Sokol activity at the Thomas Zajicek's farm near Buckholts. My age at that time was 18 and hers was 19. Dear Josephine, congratulations to you on your birthday and wish you good health and many more happy birthdays. She was a very good singer and active fraternalist. The persons on the two pictures are all known to me. They are: Brother Jos. Slovacek from 1910 or 1911; later Sisters Marie Slavik Moore, Lillian Mikulec, Irene Zalesky Raska, Marie Vybiral Krause and Minnie Salac. My sincere greetings and happiness to all of you.

February 7th, 1980, I was transferred, in the ambulance, from Memorial Central Hospital to the Medicenter Nursery No. 212-B. This floor was occupied with patients who needed therapy. I was there thirty-six days. The cost per day was $74. The Medicare paid 80 percent of the bill. March 14th I moved to No. 405-B and I stayed there seventeen days, it cost $29 per day, which cost me $493. Then, from my son, John and his dear wife Elsie, I moved June 10th to Hubers. I have plans to return to Corpus Christi on the 10th of August, and move to my dear daughter Ann and her dear husband Roy Peal's home. I do not know how long I will stay there, but I have hopes that, in the near future, I will be in the position to move to my own home.

I will miss my temporary home at Austin. I enjoyed the country privacy living very much. About 24 years ago, the Hubers purchased a 43-acre tract of wilderness land between Austin and Round Rock, west from the highway and FM 1325 and the railroad track, running from Burnett to Austin. It used to serve and deliver the granite to the Gulf of Mexico City for water breaks and piers, material such as granite, stones, gravel, sand and some other construction material.

While in Austin the days passed by fast. In 1958 the Hubers built, on the 43-acre tract, a modern brick veneer house 2600 square feet with attached carport 700 square feet; all of this is open to me. I have many feet of space for exercise for walking with my walker; besides this, outside is a large yard and from 7:30 to 8 p.m. this is my place to take many steps for exercise. There were four dogs around me but one 15-year-old Suzy (female) died July 12th. We are all missing her (this dog had one brother at Peal's), six heads of purebreed whiteface cattle, one horse,

12 rabbits, deer, squirrels, birds, fruitgarden, vegetable-garden, lawn, flower-garden, pasture covered with all kinds of trees and bushes. When I add to this the fresh clean air, I have a feeling that I reside in paradise. Lillie is a wonderful cook and housekeeper.

John is a good companion; he is retired, but Lillie is busy all the time.

By reading the convention news in the Vestnik, I have noticed where our District VII members elected the first woman as a district director: Sister Thelma Hrncir at the present time is serving on the SPJST By-law Committee as secretary, youth leader of Lodge No. 117 in Robstown, and a school teacher. She is also performing music lessons. Dear Sister Thelma, accept my sincere compliment to your honorable success in your endeavor.

Her dear husband Eugene is also active, he is serving on the Board of the S.P.J.S.T. Taylor and Needville Rest Homes. The Hrncir and Mrazek families are well-known as the pioneers of the Robstown Community. The Mrazek's reunion was held 22 June 1980 in Kingsville, Texas.

I read in the Nasinec newspaper, published since 2 July 1937 by the stockholders in Granger, Texas, some sad news: Mr. John J. Gelner, age 62, died of a heart attack on his farm near his home in Cameron, Texas, June 17, 1980, Joe J. Marek, age 82, died 14 June 1980, in a Temple hospital; his home was near Buckholts on the farm my parents owned since August 1st to December 31st, 1911.

The Gelner family and their tenants ginned most of their cotton with us when we owned the Pettibone Cotton Gin during the years 1937 to 1940J wish to express my sincere sympathy to all the survivors of this promiment family.

John J. Gelner was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Karel Gelner and grandson of a pioneer family in the Ed Hall Community from the last part of the years in 1890. J.J. Gelner's survivors are: His widow, Mrs. Julie Kubacak Gelner of Cameron; two sons, Johnny of Vinton, Louisiana and Billy of Cameron-Pettibone area; three sisters, Mrs. Millie Jedlicka, Mrs. Mary Hubink, both of Cameron and Angeline Simecek of Pasadena; and nine grandchildren.

When I was at Buckholts on October 15, 1977, we made a visit to the new owner at Pettibone and found out that Billy Gelner was the owner of the property. (We owned it in 1938, 1939 and 1940). He built some horse race tracks and a new building for his business.

My daughter Ann Peal wrote me that Brother Frank C. Sacky had surgery.

July 15th I received a postcard from him that he is at home recuperating. I am wishing you to get well soon, Brother Frank.

LODGE NO. 40, HILLJE Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday, July 13, 1980 at the Hillje SPJST Hall with President Jerry Polasek presiding over the meeting.

We remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of Brother Emil J. Bacak and Sister Annie Orsak. Our most sincere sympathy to the families. May our departed brother and sister rest in peace.

Secretary Albert Kresta, Sr. read the minutes of the June meeting. They were approved as read.

Brother James Bacak and Sister Ardis Bacak represented Lodge No. 40 Hillje as delegates to the XXIII Quadrennial Convention in San Antonio. Sister Ardis Bacak gave a report about the convention happenings.

There were seven members present at our meeting and one visitor.

VtSTNIK LETTER TO THE EDITOR Dear Rudy, Greetings from all of us in San Antonio. Please send us some rain soon or we will all be alcoholics drinking beer trying to keep cool!

I am forwarding you a song with the words and the notes that many people have asked me about. Just a little history about the song.

About year and a half ago, I received a tape cassette from my dear friend, Karl Ptacek, from Pole, Czechoslovakia, Which is located near Blatna, where the beautiful song Cervena Ruzicka was originated. On this tape was the song Cerny Cikan, the more I played it the more I enjoyed it. Karl Ptacek told me that this song was a very old song that people sang before the World War II. Then it wasn't heard of until about two years ago. It is now being played in Czechoslovakia and is recorded on an Apon record that can be obtained from Pancner in Chicago. The San Antonio Czech Choral Group has been singing this song for the past year and a half, and wherever we perform and sing this song, people always want to know where we got the words and the notes, so we would like to share this song with all the other groups or anyone interested.

Also, the song, Olivo, Olivo, which I brought back with me from Czechoslovakia, was first sung by the San Antonio Group, and was forwarded to Al Grebnik, who later recorded it on one of his LP Records. Today we hear many of the Texas Bands playing this beautiful song. The song Cervenka Ruzicka was brought back from Czechoslovakia by two of our singing people, Adolf and Agnes Popp, which was also forwarded to Al Grebnik, who was the first one to record it on a LP Record. We are always glad to share any of our songs with any one, or any groups; also the song that Vince Simek now plays is one of our originals! Zeleny Haji, a beautiful polka.

FEATURES CZECH CLASS AT MEMORIAL ADULT EVENING SCHOOL IN HOUSTON Registration for the 1980 Fall semester classes in Conversational Czech will take place between 7 and 9 p.m. August 19th, 20th and 21st at Memorial Senior High School, 935 Echo Lane, Houston, Texas 77024.

The Beginners' Class Czech rwill be held Thursday evenings, starting September 4th and the Advanced Class, Czech II will be held Tuesday evenings, starting September 2nd. All class hours in these 15 week courses will be from 7 to 9 p.m. each evening.

Tuition for each course will be $30 plus a $5-registration fee.

THE BAKER HOTEL IS NO MORE Dear Members and Readers: Dallas' once elegant Baker Hotel was recently reduced to a heap of dusty rubble - by intention, plan, and design.

Sunday, June 29th, demolition experts detonated linear-shaped charges implanted in steel columns and walls shortly before noon on that Sunday and reduced the 65-year old Dallas landmark to a billowing cloud of dust and finally rubble. According to news stories, the timed series of explosions took less than 15 seconds to accomplish the complete demolition of the hotel.

News stories told us that the Crystal Ballroom in the Baker had been the scene of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra engagements and the hotel also contained suites where Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon had slept. Our members and readers should also know that the Baker was also the site

of the XXth Convention of the SRIST in 1968 and some of us have fond recollections of that convention. It so happens that that was the convention (and the Crystal Ballroom the site) when I was elected president of the Society, Bro. Leonard Mikeska was elected treasurer, Bro. Sefcik was elected editor, and the late Bro. Jos. Koliha, Jr. , was elected director to replace retiring Director Chas. Holasek, so the Baker Hotel had a sort of special meaning for a number of people. The Baker was also the site of several meetings of the Texas Fraternal Congress, the top floor always being the scene of the Youth Spectacular at that Congress.

The 18-story, L-shaped hotel was one of three buildings demolished in downtown Dallas to make room for a planned administrative complex for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

A series of four pictures, showing the demolition stages, appeared on the front

page of the Temple Daily Telegram on Monday, June 30th. The pictures were credited to AP Laserphotos. In checking with the local newspaper, I was informed that they had prints of those pictures but the use of them in our Vestnik, or by anyone else, was restricted to only those newspapers being served by the Associated Press. I was referred to a gentleman in New York City who stated that the four pictures would be available for our use at a cost of $45 each. I thanked him. In discussing this temporary dilemma with Vice President Gebala, he suggested that I call the local offices of Southwestern Bell and they in turn referred me to Mr. Joe McNamara of the Dallas office of Southwestern Bell.

Mr. McNamara is the District Staff Mgr. - News Relations of Southwestern Bell.

He stated that his office had taken pictues very similar to the ones that I had referred to and that we could have use of them at no charge. In a few days 1 had

prints of the pictures that you see here, and we wish to express our profound thanks to Mr. McNamara and his office and Southwestern Bell for letting us use these pictures. I think the story is significant because of the SPJST's association with the Baker Hotel and also with the dramatic impact of the pictures themselves showing the expert demolition of such a huge edifice. Obviously the detonation experts in charge of the project knew their business. It has been estimated that there will now be 65,000 truck yards of debris to be hauled away.

Notice especially the "clean" and confined area of the demolition and the fact that very little rubble spilled over onto the adjacent streets certainly speaks of the expertise with which this job was accomplished. Total cost of demolition and clearing the area was under $1,000,000 according to information from Southwestern Bell.

Finally, we all know that progress must take place, but on the other hand we view this particular event with a tinge of sadness and nostalgia in knowing that where history once took place, both nationally and certainly with the SPJST, has now been reduced to a mere pile of rubble.

AUSTIN AQUA FESTIVAL CZECH NIGHT Once again it is time to extend an invitation to everyone to participate in the Austin Aqua Festival Czech Night on Friday, August 1, 1980, from 6:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at Auditorium Shores on Town Lake (Riverside Dr. and S. 1st St.). This is the forerunner of all other Fest nights.

Vrazel's Polka Band from Cameron, Donnie Wavra Orchestra from Columbus will play on the East stage and Lee Roy Matocha Orchestra from Fayetteville will play on the West stage for your dancing enjoyment from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

There will be two large wooden dance floors. The Seaton Star Beseda Dancers from Temple, the Texas Czech Beseda Dancers from Abbott, the Czech Relations from Austin, the Taylor Czech Chorus and the West Beseda Dancers will perform on the West stage throughout the evening.

There will be a Heritage Display which features many interesting items from Czechoslovakia. Alice and Raymond Prasatik will be available to answer questions pertaining to Czech Heritage.

Also in this area there will be performances by the Austin Highlanders Pipe Band.

16 Local Czech families will prepare home-cooked Czech dinners, which includes sausage, potatoes, sauerkraut, pickle and ice tea. Sausage "boats" will be sold along with kolaches and other pastries. Coffee, ice tea, soft drinks and beer will be available to help quench your thirst.

Admission to all entertainment is a Skipper pin purchased for $1 from various Austin merchants prior to August 1 plus $1 at the gate or $3 at the gate without a Skipper pin. Come one come all for a fun evening. Mrs. John Migl -S PJSTSTUDIES PROGRAM FOR UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON Czech classes are scheduled to get into full swing for the fall-term 1980 at U. H. Classes are offered for First-year, Second-year and Special Problems students. All courses earn three hours credit per semester and satisfy core elective requirements set by the school administration.

U of H Czech students had very good representation during awards day when four were selected to study at Charles' University in Prague. Those selected were Jeanne Jacques, Donald Pavliska, Jerry Peters and George Slanina. Five others received scholarships awarded to those showing the greatest achievement during the school year; Jeanne Jacques, Judy Jalufka, Jan Koci, Denny Maresh and Donald Pavliska.

Our freshman class of 14 consistently exemplified a great determination and willingness to participate in class activity which was conducted (95 percent of the time) in Czech.

Our first meeting was well-attended with 11 of our 14 members present. Also in June we went bowling, took a tour of Texas A and M University, and had a pizza social.

District I YAD was held in Brenham on June 22 and our lodge had two first place winners: Holly Suehs in Foods (6-9) and Melissa Surovik in Individual Talent (15-17). Best of luck at State YAD! In July, our meeting was again well-attended. We discussed camp and assigned committee responsibilities. We also had a birthday social for John Rychlik, Michelle Surovik and our former youth leader, Betty Suehs.

We also have a very busy August schedule. Our meeting will be August 3 at 2 p.m. I hope it will be well-attended.

Camp will be held at Camp Val Verde August 13-16. State YAD will be August 24 at Temple High School.

As the newly elected youth leader of Lodge 17, I am really excited about the year ahead. With eight new members, I hope I can help make their experiences in the SPJST Youth Club as memorable as my 12 years as a youth club member.

Dear Readers, The youth club of Lodge No. 142 held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 23, 1980.

Mr. Wahlberg, our District V youth counselor, was our guest speaker. He talked to us about YAD which will be Sunday, July 27th, at Lodge 88 and about camp which will be August 8 through 11 at Camp Val Verde. It sounds like a lot of fun.

We had a shoe scramble contest at the meeting and Annie Pavlicek was the winner.

After the meeting we enjoyed playing dominoes. One table of players played "Straight". Frank Pavlicek was the winner. The other table of players played "42". Their games were tied.

There were many first place winners in the different age groups and categories from our lodge who placed tirst. All the first place winners will go to State Youth Achievement Day. The secretary then had the reading of the register and the reading of the minutes from the last meeting. There were no corrections or additions. They were approved as read.

The treasurer's report was then given.

We had our visitors this month. They were: Mr. and Mrs. Gene Owen, Kevin Owen and Melissa Owen. We also have two new members, Michelle Shelton and Chris Owen, both of Waco and they attend Alta Vista Elementary School.

Don't forget about camp: August 2nd through 5th at Camp Val Verde.

At YAD we had two 1st place winners, Karen Shelton and Greg Nors; also, our scrapbook won 1st place.

We have changed the date to go to Six Flags to September 27th because of the heat.

We do plan to go swimming at West Playdium from 5 to 9 p.m. July 29th.

The youth members are supposed to find bar and kitchen workers and also are to cleanup the hall Sundpr after the dance. A special Publicity Committee was assigned.

The meeting was then adjourned. We almost had a perfect attendance with eight guests. Our special guest was Glen Kudrna, our lodge president.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the undersigned Resolution Committee of Lodge Karel Havlicek No. 4, Hallettsville, in behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed lodge brother LUDVIK P QUITTA, who passed away May 14th, 1980 in the Stevens Convalescent Center in Hallettsville.

Brother Quitta was born April 19,1894 in Lavaca County and he was married to the former Alma Doehring in 1918 in Hallettsville.

The body lay in state at Kubena Funeral Home until 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 16th, when it was taken to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for funeral services at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Anthony Matula officiated, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Brother Quitta was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a veteran of World War I, member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, and SPJST Lodge No. 4.

Surviving are a son, Robert C. Quitta of Victoria; a daughter, Mrs. Burleson Braun of Austin; a brother, John Quitta of Hallettsville; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Power Street, Victoria, who died June 25th, 1980, in an Arlington hospital.

Brother Drozd was born 28 December 1899 in Lavaca County, but he had lived most of his life in Victoria. He was a retired paint contractor.

Survivors include his wife, Albina Drozd of Victoria; two sons, Leon Drozd of Sugarland and Allan Drozd of Floresville; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Miller of Arlington; several brothers, sisters and number of grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Ripley officiating. Burial followed in Colonial Gardens Cemetery.

Brother Drozd was a member of the First Evg. Lutheran Church.

He was a member of the SPJST Lodge No. 32, Veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army in France.

Pallbearers were Edward Allan Drozd, Lawrence Wayne Miller, Leon F. Drozd, Jr., John Jarrett Miller, Kent Keith Miller, Eugene Drozd,Rich Stastney.

He was born in East Bernard to Frank F. and Rosie Pilcik. He was a life-long resident of this community, a well-known farmer, a devoted Christian, and a devoted member of our Lodge.

Funeral services were held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Monday, July 7, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Joe Vrana and Monsignor John Kukral officiating wake services and Rosary were held Sunday, July 6, at 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery here.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Dawson-Davis Funeral Home of East Bernard. Pallbearers were: Daniel Macha, George Macha Jr., David Wasicek, Larry Pilcik, Lodie Pilcik Jr. and Dennis Overgoner. Honorary pallbearers were: W.J. Wasicek Jr., Dennis Hudec, Billy Haas, Stephen Stephens, Leroy Macha anti William Toman.

Surviving are two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Olga Macha of East Bernard, Mrs. Rosie Wasicek of Wallis, Albin Pilcik of East Bernard and Lodie Pilcik of East Bernard and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded him in death were his parents, two brothers and one sister.
