No truer words could be spoken. It is back to 'put your shoulders to the wheel' once again! ** When we arrived in San Antonio, one of the first things your editor was told, by a delegate from Corpus Christi, how well our Sokol Gymnastic Unit of West was received and represented at the ASO Southern District Slet at SPJST Lodge No. 79 and Sokol Corpus Christi Hall in that city.

We are proud of them and many of the ASO Southern District Sokol brothers and sisters are amazed at the enthusiastic support our unit has received thus far. DISTRICT II SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT

Richard Urbis, member of Lodge 117 Robstown, and one of the participants in the recent "Entertainment Sampler" at the XXIII Convention, has been accepted into International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland in October of this year. It is a singular honor for a person to be chosen for this competition and all of us wish Richard well. - NAM ***

In May we sold forty (40) members for $344,000 in insurance sales for a total of three hundred and fifty (350) members for $2,414,500 in insurance sales.

The three top sales representatives were: Chester Shmoldas --- 12 members for $102,000 of insurance sales Ladis Navratil --- 3 members for $54,000 Norma Andel --- 1 member for $50,000 Albin Machu --- 1 member for $50,000

Joe N. Morris, 91, passed away at his home in Sweet Home Sunday, June 15th. Funeral services were held from the Buffington Funeral Home in Yoakum and the Sweet Home Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 17th, with burial in Sweet Home Catholic Cemetery. Bro. Morris was the last survivor of three brothers who came to this country the early part of this century. He was the uncle of Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris, who also served as one of the pallbearers.

Bro. Morris was a longtime SPJST member and for many years was among the top sales representatives (called organizers at that time) in the state. He had been a member of Lodge No. 63, Sweet Home since 1914 and had been married to the former Albina Berkovsky over 67 years.

The Cejka-Tlapal reunion will be held at the Blessing Community Center in Blessing, Texas on July 28, 1980.

Jeanette Smith, Sales Representative for SPJST, was cited for outstanding life insurance service at the annual convention of the National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counsellors which met May 2nd and 3rd at the Chamberlin Hotel in Hampton, Virginia.

The annual Shiller-Hejl reunion will be held Sunday, June 29, 1980 at the SPJST Lodge No. 48 in Beyersville, east of Taylor. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.

Lunch will be served a noon. Families are asked to bring a covered dish. Tea, coffee, plates and silverware will be furnished. Come all, and reunite with all acquaintances. See you then.

A certificate for quality business in 1979, was presented to Jeanette at the XXIII Convention. As a Fraternal Insurance Counsellor, she was required to complete an extensive basic and advance training course, pass three comprehensive examinations, and meet established production requirements.

FINAL REPORT BY THE CONVENTION PLANNING COMMITTEE

On behalf of Lodge No. 133, San Antonio, we want to thank all the Supreme Lodge officers, their employees, the editor, all the delegates, visitors and friends for the many special compliments that we have received regarding the convention. We are indeed very happy, that it was a successful and productive convention. The satisfaction that we have is in knowing that all of you have enjoyed it; certainly it was a worthwhile project. Thank you very much.

5 To each and everyone from the chairman, Brother Emil Matula and Dominic Netek, co-chairman, thank you so much.

As, a matter of record, we would like to clarify the thoughts of some people.

Although many members from other lodges offered their help, we were fortunate that the complete organization of the convention programs, etc. was done by Lodge No. 133, all the help from within San Antonio, which proves whether you are a small lodge or a large lodge, if you work together and have a strong Fraternal belief in your organization, you will not fail.

The San Antonio Lodge No. 133 held their regular meeting at the hall, located at 1505 S. Gevers St., June 15th at 2 p.m. The meeting was convened by President Emil Matula, leading the members in the pledge of allegiance.

The secretary read the minutes of the last meeting; the minutes were accepted as read; also, the treasurer's report was read and accepted. Complete report on the outcome of the convention was not available at this time, but will be given at a later date. Brother Matula and Brother Netek spoke on the convention, both reports were very favorable, and they thanked all the members for their fine cooperation and hard work to make the convention a success.

The next meeting of Lodge No. 133 will be at 1505 S. Gevers St., July 20th, we hope to have a good turnout.

6 LODGE NO. 54, WEST Dear Members: June is a busy month for everyone, however, many members remembered to attend the second quarterly meeting held June 1st.

Interesting reports were heard from all the officers. Improvements for our lodge were brought up for discussion and acted upon, and Brother Zahirniak volunteered to hire a carpenter as soon as possible.

Candidates for membership were read

by Brother Wright. They were Jennifer Jaska, Jeffery Don Veselka, Douglas Lee Wolf, Terry Michael Wright and Willie Mae Cervenka. All of them were accepted into our local lodge, and we welcome them.

It was announced that Brother and Sister Ernest Zahirniak became proud grandparents for the first time; their daughter and son-in-law, P. Kay and Don Scott of Waco, are proud parents of a baby girl, named Whitney Erin Scott.

Congratulations to all of you!

Sister Sefcik briefed the members about the donations made to Sokol West from Cottonwood Lodge No. 6 for $50 and West Lodge No. 36 for $100. A motion was made and passed that a donation of $100 be contributed from West Lodge No. 54.

During the meeting, Brother Zahirniak reminded everyone about the SPJST Convention in San Antonio and announced the names of the delegates representing Lodge No. 54: Albina Kacir, John Mynar, Maxine Sefcik, Bob Wright and Ernest Zahirniak.

Brother Joe Dujka, Sr. won the door prize.

Sunday, September 14th at 3 p.m. is the next quarterly lodge meeting; and adjournment was at 2:40 p.m.

In conclusion and on behalf of Lodge No. 54 delegates, I wish to compliment Lodge No. 133 San Antonio officers, committees, and their interested members for performing superb duties while hosting the XXIII SPJST Convention. We salute all Of you! We, the delegates, also wish to compliment convention chairman, Brother Sid Pokladnik and vice chairman, Brother Jerry Prochazka, and all the convention secretaries plus committees who carried out their obligations in such an efficient manner.

The Memorial Service at the Alamo, dedicated to all deceased SPJST members who gave their lives for their Country in all wars and conflicts, the laying of the wreath at the Alamo, with the band and Honor Guard participating, were very impressive.

Our congratulations is also extended to all elected Home Office officers, district directors, legal adviser, editor, committees, and 'Miss SPJST' Charlotte Banik, plus the runners-up Laura Ann Pavelka (District VII) and Debbie Marburger (District II).

Remember, the District III Youth Achievement Day taking place Sunday, June 29th at Lodge No. 180 in Burleson.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON

The XXIII SPJST Convention is in the past with a record-breaking time of all times. This was the first convention to adjourn in three and a half days of session time. Credit goes to the excellent job of the convention chairman, Brother Sid Pokladnik of Lodge No. 84, Dallas, who fairly ruled and gave ample time to everyone to express their views. Brother Pokladnik served as convention vice chairman in 1956, 1960, 1964 and 1968. At that time in 1956 and 1960 all deliberations were conducted in the Czech language, translated and printed in both languages. This was Brother Pokladnik's third convention to serve as convention chairman; and he did a good job with the help of Brother Jerry Prochazka as vice chairman, member of Lodge No. 65, Crosby. Both brothers received a standing ovation of appreciation for a job well done. Sorry Sister Justine, the wife of Brother Sid, missed the XXIII Convention due to being confined in the hospital; up to this convention, Justine was always at her husband's side. We missed you.

We proudly re-elected our fine staff of Supreme: Lodge officers and admired the lovely family of each one: President Nick Morris, Vice President Bernie Gebala, Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska, Financial-Secretary Jerry Mikulas, Attorney Reuben Lesikar, and Editor Rudy Sefcik. Each of the elected presented his family which was a pleasure pleasing picture.

Congratulations, our trust in all of you is complete. CONGRATULATIONS! This time something new was established by District V. The idea of having a Hospitality Room in the hotel, a place to congregate at certain times.

This originated in the mind of our District V Director Louis Hanus, with the support of District V President Norval Crossman and District V delegates made this a huge success. Of course, there is always someone who

VESTNiK has to take a hold and whole-heartedly work at it. Brother Norval Crossman with his wife, Frances, a wonderful creative person, worked at it for months. The job of purchasing and accumulating the food and, at this, Sister Edna Wehring helped and also made the delicious cheese balls. The Hospitality Room was open each day at a certain time not to conflict with the convention and the Hospitality Room closed the doors Wednesday at noon.

Frances Crossman had quite a few willing sisters to help each day to prepare the buffet table; her daughter, Mary Frances Wahlberg was her mother's right hand. The following also extended their helping hand: Almeda Bravenec, Gladys Eloff, Kitty Knapick, Estelle Kelly, Carlene Carlock, Mariam Zalesky, Lillian Finn, Georgie Barcak, Marie Stayton, Lillia Mae Peter of Lodge No. 172, Evelyn Sefcik of Lodge No. 173 and Sister Valusek also of Lodge No. 173. Bartenders were needed and help was offered by Gary Zalesky, Steve Kelly, John Hilsher, Joe Knapick and Harry Finn. If I missed anyone, please forgive me. Thanks to our lodge President Mildred Holeman and her husband, Jack, for all the cookies and crackers; also, Brother Royal Warnasch and his spouse, Laura, for all the paper goods needed. It was great and. thanks to all. Maybe some districts will follow our experience and enjoy the close relationship with their delegates.

For myself I wish to thank Brother Louis Hanus, District V director, for being so gracious to allow me to accompany him to the convention. Sorry his spouse, Oleta, was not able to join us because her mother, Mrs. Garrett is ill. Being a lone ranger, I wish to thank all my close friends for being so nice to me; meeting friends and making new ones will leave me with many nice memories of the five days spent in San Antonio at the convention.

The entertainment Monday night at the pretty La Villita place was very much enjoyed by all, especially the presentation of Brother Otto Hanus' portrait, that moment was very touching and it was very thoughtful of the members of the Supreme Lodge to remember Brother Otto for his unselfish devotion to our beautiful SPJST Museum. Brother Otto, I love you! Also a presentation of a beautiful watch was made to the retiring District I director, Brother John Kubena for his devoted services. We are very proud of Sister Della Kadlecek, sales representative of Lodge No. 88, winning two places in the contest: "Meet Me at the Alamo" and on "Annualized Premiums." Della was one of the five winners and the only

Oh, Sunday was the "Get-Acquainted Party" on the swimming pool patio. It was too crowded and very hot.

Tuesday night was the crowning of the Miss SPJST! The lovely, Sister Charlotte Battik was crowned and will reign for four years until to the next convention in 1984. Charlotte Banik is the reigning 'Miss SPJST' from District III. District V is also proud of our young lovely lady, Margie Barcak presenting her speech "What Fraternalism Means To Me." Keep it up, Margie!

In District V the following were elected: Brother Louis Hanus was re-elected as District V director; his alternate is Brother Sidon Tumis of Lodge No. 142; on the By-Laws Committee is Sister Mildred Holeman, alternate is Sister Tillie Helmcamp; Insurance Committee-Sister Helen Hegwood, alternate is Sister Della Kadlecek, all four of them are from Lodge No. 88; Publication CommitteeTommie Lostak of Lodge No. 139, alternate is Larry Pflughaupht of Lodge No. 88; Finance Committee-Jerry Prochazka of Lodge No. 65, alternate is Alvin Sefcik of Lodge No. 173. After the 1976 Convention, I said that was my last one, but who knows.

At the home base here in Houston at Lodge No. 88, everything went off smoothly with the remaining committees taking over, and now the grind begins again because our annual "Homecoming" is very near and other events are scheduled on our calendar.

Sister Elsie Dvorak Kadera of McKinney, Texas had her second eye operation and is doing fine; also, Johnnie Kosut is happy to be over his eye surgery. Both members will enjoy good eye sight, again.

We are saddened to part with three of our members this month. They are: Brother Lowman C. Kruse, member of Lodge No. 111 and member of our lodge before. Lowman died June 3th at the age of 61 years. Services were held at the Sage Oaks Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Lawrence Junek and Rev. Henry Beseda officiating. Brother Lowman was laid to rest at Sealy, Texas.

Surviving him are his wife, Lillian (Zapalka) Kruse; son, Captain Larry Kruse; daughter-in-law, Theresa; and granddaughter, Krissy Kruse, from Columbus, Mississippi.

Services were at 9 a. m.' June 6, 1980 at Heights Funeral Chapel. Interment was at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

Brother A.C. "Art" Motl, age 61, died June 8, 1980. He was a member of Lodge No. 88, KJT and Knights of Columbus. At one time he was active in the Hlahnl Dramatic Club. Wake services were held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services were Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment was in Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Rev., Edward Randall officiated. Survivors include his wife, Koteras Motl of Houston; three sons, Byron of Bryan,. Tx., Christopher of Kingswood, Tx., and Gregg of Austin, Tx.; and grandchildren, Casey and Lindsey Motl. May all three members: Brother Lowman Kruse,

Sister Carrie Vodehnal and Brother A.C. Motl rest in peace. Our deepest of sympathy to the surviving families.

LODGE NO. 63, SWEET HOME Dear Members: The Sweet Home Lodge No. 63 will hold its regular monthly meeting and its once a year stew supper June 29th at 1:30 p.m. at the Firemen's Hall in Sweet Home.

This meeting will have a report from the lodge delegates concerning the happenings of the XXIII Convention in San Antonio. After the meeting we willjtave a drawing of the door prizes and a birthday cake will be won by someone with a birthday in April, May or June. If you have a birthday in one of these months, be sure and come by. Somehow Mother Nature made an error and very few of the members in Sweet Home have a birthday on these three months, maybe you have a chance to win! The cake will be baked by Sister Mildred Bolech.

June is also the time for our annual stew supper. Members are asked to bring a side dish and/or dessert. The meat and drinks will be furnished. The plates and eating utensils will also be provided by the lodge.

LODGE NO. 179, VVARRENTON

Dear Members and Friends: Our regular monthly meeting was held Thursday night, June 12th with a fine attendance.

Vice President El Gene Eckermann, in absence of our president, called the meeting to order and also led the group in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Secretary Jeanette Schoenst read the minutes of the previous meeting and Brother Lee Leonhardt gave the treasurer's report. Both readings were accepted as given.

Dorothy Oltmann gave the financial standing and read the name of Sister Ruth Whitmann as a prospective member. She was voted on and warmly accepted into our lodge.

In old business further discussion was held concerning our annual feast of August 10th.

Prize tickets will be printed as well as posters by the next meeting.

The vice president appointed a food and planning chairman committee consisting of Sisters Tiny Ziese, Doris Eckermann, Dorothy Oltmann and Garda Siptak; these chairpeople are also to secure sufficient help for the numerous and various committees needed for the event.

Every lady member is "lso to bring a cake or pie to be served or sold at our feast.

Further details will be forth-coming at our next meeting.

In new business the vice president appointed Brother Alfred Siptak to put our meeting date on the La Grange Radio Bulletin Board prior to our meeting.

It was brought up and brief discussion was held concerning the Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey Circus which will be held in Austin on Sunday, July 27th, starting at 1 p.m.

V S TN 11C It was decided that the lodge will charter a 48-passenger school bus and pay for the transportation while members wishing to attend the circus must pay for their own show ticket.

However, members desiring to go must make advance reservation and pay the five-dollar cost for the circus ticket. This five-dollar is a six-dollar middle section, only obtainable in this group reservation.

See our chairman, Jeanette Schoenst, for tickets and reservations on the bus before June 28th. The bus will leave the Caimine High School at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 27th; it will not stop for a noon lunch, therefore, everyone is to take their own sack lunch and drinks.

Sister Dorothy Oltmann was our delegate to the XXIII SPJST Convention in San Antonio. She will make a report about that convention at our July meeting.

We are sorry to have some of our members on the sick list. We wish them a speedy recovery and hope they will be able to attend our next meeting.

The Food Committee reported that our lodge will furnish cold cuts for our July 10th meeting, starting at 8 p.m.

The youth club extended an invitation to all adult members to attend the June 22nd YAD at Brenham at 1 p.m. at the KC Hall.

With no further business the meeting adjourned. Afterwards all enjoyed the hotdogs and various delicious cakes, pies, chips, pickles and refreshments.

LODGE NO. 25, ENNIS

Dear Members and Friends: The June Executive meeting was called to order by President Glenn Kudrna at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 5th. The meeting was well attended. Several important business items were discussed. Brother Kudrna expressed his disappointment that the history of Lodge No. 25 was never finished and turned in by the. committee.

The June lodge meeting was held June 12th at 8 p.m. and was called to order by President Kudrna. Brother Kudrna asked Sister Debbie Dlabaj to lead the members in the pledge of allegiance.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as read. These were read by Recording Secretary Judy Patton.

On matters of old business, a question was asked about the repair of the portico. Brother Kudrna reported another contractor has been hired to do

the repair. Here's hoping this will work out and the portico will finally be repaired.

Brother Louis Kudrna, treasurer, made his financial report for the months of April and May; many of the expenses were for supplies for the polka festival.

This report was proof that the new officers are doing an excellent job and should be commended for all the many hours of hard work that they spend in doing their jobs so well.

Members were reminded that the dance floor has been refinished and is in excellent condition. This excellent work was done for the lodge by Brother Joe Drozd. Plans were discussed to refinish the tile floors in the dining room and in the bar during the month of July between dances.

The lodge had no one on the sick list at this meeting.

One new member was approved and welcomed to membership list. Emilie Marie Harrison is our newest member.

After all the business was reviewed, Brother Kudrna asked Sister Patton to pass out premium checks. Attendance was down this month, only about 23 members were present. All our delegates to the convention were absent since the convention was finished on the day of the meeting. Let's bring the attendance back up next month. Important lodge business is discussed at every meeting so it is important to attend as many meetings as possible.

Our next scheduled dance will be June 28 with the very popular Mikula Band of Ennis playing for your dancing pleasure.

With good music, a like-new dance floor, good friends to meet here, and new friends to meet, this should prove to ber another great time for everyone, attending. Be sure to mark this date on your calendar and come and have an' enjoyable evening.

The first dance in July will be July 5th,' with the "country Noblemen playing your

favorite melodies that you like to dance' to; all the other bands that have played for the lodge, this is another great band of local musicians, so mark this date on your calendar also, and join your friend$ for this dance and have a great time at both dances.

Wednesday, June 25, 1980 LODGE NO. 66, WACO Dear Members: SPJST Lodge No. 66 held their meeting Sunday, June 15th, with President West presiding.

The flags were presented by Larry Brem and James Yates.

The pledge of allegiance and lodge motto were recited by the members.

President West asked everyone to remain standing for a silent prayer for Sister Marie Gaidusek.

In roll call of officers all were present.

Sister Bonnie Pruitt read the minutes of the May meeting. They were approved as read.

In correspondence a thank you note was read from the family of Sister Marie Gaidusek for the flowers and food sent from Lodge No. 66; also thank you notes from Steven Stanislav and Tena Urbanek for the money gift from the lodge.

Sister Engelke read the minutes of the Board of Trustees' meeting held Wednesday night, June 4th. The Board voted to give $25 to the March of Dimes from Linden Hall. This was matched by the members that SPJST Lodge No. 66 also donate $25.

Brother George Shilling reported that all fathers will be honored. There will be a drawing for three (3) prizes and after the meeting sausage, chips and drinks will be served.

The following were voted on to become members of Lodge No. 66. They are: Sundee LaneIle Foster, Richard K. Campbell, Sr., Sylvia C. Campbell, Richard K. Campbell, Jr., and Debbie Lynn. Grier. Welcome to Lodge No. 66!

Health Committee Report --- Sister Agnes Mazanec reported that she sent a get-well card to Brother Lazaro Sanchez; and a sympathy card to the Gaidusek family on the tragic loss of their mother. Sister Marie Gaidusek.

May she rest in eternal peace.

We have heard that Brother Ray Moore is in the VA Hospital. We hope he is doing OK; also, we've heard that Sister Irene Mueller's father, Brother Mike Glatter is very ill at the Scott and White Hospital. Our prayers and get-well wishes are with you.

Brother Emil Hanus thanked Brother Ray and Sister Ruby Orsag for the excellent job they did for him while we were at the convention.

Brother Silas Smith said he enjoyed the convention and he congratulated Sister Jeanette Smith who was presented a certificate from the Fraternal Insurance Counselors (FIC) on outstanding work she did and to Brother James Pavlicek, winner of "See You at the Alamo" contest for selling the most insurance in District III. We are rill very proud of our own Brother Otto Hanus who was recognized at the Monday night convention banquet for the outstanding work he has done on the wonderful SPJST Library, Archives and Museum (LAM) department at the Supreme Lodge. Brother Otto was presented a very beautiful colored framed picture of himself, which will be on display at the Supreme Lodge.

Congratulations to Miss Charlotte Banik of Lodge No. 35, Elk, District III, winner of the 'Miss SPJST' contest. To the other young ladies who represented each district; you were all great and are an honor to your lodge. We are proud of each of you.

Sister Libbie Parma reported for the youth club. The club will go to Six Flags in July to camp in August. The club has three youth members who will be leaders-in-training (LITs) at Camp Val Verde. They are Steven Stanislav, Tena Urbanek and Craig Stamps.

The point winners were: Teens-1st Steven Stanislav, 2nd Tena Urbanek, 3rd Larry Brem, 4th Karen Shelton, 5th Vikki Nors. Juniors-1st Janice Stanislav, 2nd Donna Stanislav, 3rd Lanette Nors, 4th Randy Nors, 5th Bradley Nors, 6th Jeff Nors.

Door prize winner was Sister Raymond Volcik.

Members celebrating birthdays in June were: Brother John Simcik, Sister Darlene Engelke, and Brother Raymond Volcik. Happy birthday to each of you.

The cake was brought by Larry Brem.

In the drawing for fathers were 2nd runner-up-- Marvin Brem, 1st runnerup--Raymond Shelton, and 'Father of the Year' was Brother John Simcik.

The sessions were very interesting and educational, the entertainment was wonderful, the food was delicious and the drinks were refreshing. We had a wonderful time sightseeing in your very historical and beautiful City of San Antonio. The hospitality was great! We really had a wonderful time and enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Our next lodge meeting will be held Sunday, July 20th, at 2:30 p.m.

Dear Members and Friends: June 15th at 2:15 p.m., President Claude Flippen called the meeting to order.

Sister Mildred Horak gave the treasurer's report; it was also approved as read.

I would like to welcome • five new members: Ladis J. Horak, Wendy Pawlik, Kimberly Pawlik, Frank Balcar and Doris Balcar.

Dear SPJST Members in District VII: It is with appreciation and humility that I thank the delegates of District VII who saw fit to elect me to the position of District VII Director for the next four years. I shall try my best to deserve the confidence in me you have shown by your vote. I would welcome the opportunity to visit in each lodge in our district next year and get to know all of you. Please feel free to share your ideas and your problems with me so that I may serve you better.

I wish to thank the members of Lodge No. 133 for the fine planning and work they did so that we could have such a successful convention. It was a wonderful week for all who' attended, and Brother Matula, Brother Netek and all their assistants are certainly to be commended. I will treasure, always, the old friendships I was able to renew and the new friends I got to know.

The members in this area are looking forward to having all of you come to Corpus Christi for the next convention.

My deepest thanks for the fine honor you have given me. I only hope I may be deserving of the faith and trust you have placed in me.

LODGE NO. 189, BRYAN, COLLEGE STATION Dear Members and Friends, Our June meeting was not well-attended due to several reasons, never-the-less we had some worthwhile discussions. after which the hosts Derek and Jane Shultz provided some fine food and entertainment.

In behalf of Lodge No. 189 and the employees of Schnadig Corporation we want to express our sympathy to Erma Macik upon the sudden death of her husband Rudolph Macik and also to the numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Rudy was employed with the Schnadig Corporation almost twentyfour years. Other than his family, Rudy loved the outdoor life and Czech music.

May our departed fellow worker, brother of SPJST and Free Evangelical Church rest in peace.

Our next meeting will be held July 13th at the home of Ernest and Billie Wentrcek at 406 Tee Drive. Please plan to attend; I'm sure we will have to start making some final plans on the picnic to be held in September.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: The last monthly lodge meeting was held Monday, June 2nd, 1980 with Brother Alfred Klusacek, lodge vice president in charge.

Flag Bearers Gene Skrabanek and David Pechal led the pledge to the United States flag.

Visitors recognized were: Marylou Skrabanek and Ann Balusek. Please come, again.

Secretary Sister Ginger Klusacek read the roll call of officers and sales representatives and also the minutes of the previous meeting.

Correspondence included the mortuary dues to the Supreme Lodge, a thank you from Sister Anna Raska for the get-well card and also a letter from Alice Banning stating that she was out-of-state with her mother for treatments.

New members accepted after the approval by the Investigating Committee were: Michelle Provazek, Doris Provazek, Joyce Marie Klinkovsky, Carlita Anglin; Darlyn Lenae Jistal converted her policy from juvenile to adult, and Brian Vanicek and Bruce Matous have paidup policies.

VtSTNIK Officers were requested for their reports as were the chairpersons. Elmer Skrabanek of the Planning Committee reported that the lights ordered have not arrived as of the day of the meeting.

Those on the sick list since the previous meeting were: Sister Rosie Pechal and Sister Mary Kohutek and Brother William Chaloupka and Albert Glaser, Jr. I hope your health has improved. Get well soon!

New business was that the convention will be convening Sunday, June 8 at 1 p.m. for registration announced by SL President Nick A. Morris and SL Vice President Bernie Gebala stated that the sales representatives may purchase T-shirts for infants.

The youth report was given by youth leader, Sister Shirley Patterson and stated that the club dues are being accepted now. The entry blanks for the District II Youth Achievement Day will be due twenty (20) days prior to YAD to be held Sunday, July 13th at Flag Hall.

Three films had been viewed by the youth members.

A wedding anniversary celebrated in June was that of Brother Frank and Sister Irma Klinkovsky.

Birthdays observed were those of Brothers Frank Klinkovsky and Calvin Skrabanek and Sisters Martha Klusacek, Lenora Talasek and Ruby Bolton.

Congratulations and best wishes to each named and others, also; may they enjoy many more years of health and happiness.

Volunteers are needed for the bar and kitchen.

The next meeting was set for Monday, July 7th, 1980 at 8 p.m.

SPJST SOFTBALL TEAM REPORT LODGE NO. 84, DALLAS Dear Brothers and Sisters: It seems that I got behind with my reports due to necessary preparations for the XXIII Convention, which is now past history, held the week of June 9th through 12th. First, I wish to say it was a very good and successful convention and my congratulations and best wishes to all the re-elected Supreme Lodge officers, editor and two new directors. I know our Society is in good hands for the next four years; so let's all move

Wednesday, June 25, 1980 forward, work together, and promote Fraternalism at our local lodges.

Our first game was played Wednesday, May 21st against Schlobohm Sales and we lost by a score of 5 to 0. Actually, we did not play one of our good games, the umpire behind home play was calling a lousy game, our catcher, Danny Yates, was ejected out of the game in the 5th inning and the 'Ole' couch also received the 'ole' heave-ho for the first time ever in the twenty-seven (27) years of playing and managing because the umpire told me we needed another catcher and I replied that we also need another umpire, that he was calling a lousy game; he simply told me I was also ejected. I guess it had to happen someday.

Lionel Schulz was our pitcher on record allowing 5 runs, 2 walks, 8 hits and 5 strikeouts; actually, it should have been a 1 to 0 ballgame, except for the bad calls.

The hitters were silent with their bats because we only had singles by Don Jarma and Kerry Goad, and Tommy Yates got on via walks.

Tuesday night, May 27th, we played the Dallas Metros Team and we won the game by a score of 6 to 2. Tommy Yates was the winning pitcher allowing 2 runs, 7 hits, 4 walks, and 6 strikeouts in a fine pitching performance on the mound.

Hitters for the game were Dan Palm with a triple and 2 singles, Don Jarma with a triple and a single, Rick Fountain with a single and a walk, Jeff Burton with a single, Danny Yates with a sacrifice hit and 2 walks, and Paul Bartos with a walk and a single.

Tuesday night, June 3, we played Zip's Bunch and we lost a donnybrook by a score of 10 to 8. We had enough runs to win any game, but errors were committed by nearly every player; they got hits that were Texas Leaguers, lucky bounces and you just name it; they got every break and we didn't get a one, but it is just one of the things that can happen to a team, we just got beat, and not by a better team.

Lionel Schulz was the pitcher on record allowing 10 runs, several unearned, 13 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Offensively, we had eight runs, bases were loaded with the winning run at bat when we finally went down to defeat.

Don Jarma had a double and 2 singles, Dan Palm had 3 walks, Rick Fountain had a double, Danny Yates had a single and 2 walks, Kerry Goad had a single, Don Lennox had 3 walks, Jerry Zabojnik had one walk, and Paul Bartos had a single.

11 Wednesday night, June 11, we played Pacesetter's Sales and we won the game by a score of 6 to 0. Tommy Yates pitched another outstanding game allowing no runs, one hit, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Offensively, Dan Palm had 2 singles and a walk, Kerry Goad had 2 singles, Paul Bartos had 2 singles, Ken Skierski had a single, Don Jarma had a single, Danny Yates also had a single, Jerry Zabojnik had a walk, Don Lennox had a double, and Tommy Yates had a single and a walk. It seems as though Jerry Zabojnik did a fine job of managing while I was in San Antonio enjoying the convention; thanks, Jerry!

Tuesday night, June 17, we played Federal Energy and we lost by a score of 5 to 0. It was a much better game than the score might indicate. They scored 2 runs in the second inning on a fluke hit, then finally scored 3 more in the last inning with more flukes or lucky hits.

Their pitcher hurled a fine game and we simply couldn't score any runs,.

Lionel Schulz hurled a fine game in defeat allowing 7 hits, 2 walks, and four strikeouts and the team played a fine game defensively; offensively, we had only 3 hits, 2 singles by Don Jarma and a double by Don Lennox. Thus our records stands with 5 wins and 3 losses in record play.

Tuesday, June 24, we are scheduled to play G&M Negatives at Sam Grand No. 1 Diamond at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, July 2, we play Sarge Construction at 7:50 p.m.

Our Softball Team Benefit Dance, which was held Saturday, May 31st, was a huge success. Our deepest thanks to everyone who contributed donations to the project, cakes ,pies, cookies for the kitchen, prizes for the bar tickets, those who helped decorate, those who worked in the kitchen and at the door; without your help and support, we could not have made the event a success. Also to everyone who attended the dance, without your presence there would have been a very slim crowd.

I personally thank, in behalf of the team, everyone who helped us with this project, it was for a good cause and God bless you all.

Spolek Ceskfch Ex-Studentii Stahl Texas -- Texaska Matice Vyielho Vzdelitni, June, 1980 MINUTES OF ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of CESAT was held on Saturday, May 31, 1980, at SPJST Lodge No. 29 in Taylor, Texas.

Nineteen persons were present.

In the absence of President James Mendl, Vice -President Clint Machann called the meeting to order.

The secretary read the minutes of the previous annual meeting, held May 26, 1979, at the same site. They were approved as read with one name correction.

Machann spoke of some of his concerns about Czech language programs. He listed possible projects, such as an oral history from Czech speakers, a comprehensive collection of Texas-Czech folk songs, and a catalogue of Czech journals and newspapers. He spoke of two current projects: Albert Blaha's recording of the baptismal records of the Brethren Church, and Jim Mendl's book on the history of Texas Czechs.

OFFICERS' REPORTS L. Prikryl, accountant for MATICE, reported on the condition of loans.

There are several overdue loans. Prikryl reported that despite requests for information, there have been no requests for the 5% loans this year.

Prikryl said that two small bank accounts, one at American Bank in Austin (with Dr. Micek's signature) and one at Texas State Bank in Austin, should be released and consolidated into another ESAT account.

M. Hegar suggested that MATICE authorize such permission.

C. Chervenka mentioned the historical research account ($400) in the City National Bank, which should also be consolidated with other funds.

John Karas, publicity director, spoke briefly in Czech. He handed out copies of an article from Vestnik indicating that language requirements should be dropped from requirements of SPJST officers.

Karas,,stating that nothing had been done by CESAT in the past year, made several suggestions, including: regional meetings with Czech clubs, with meals and get-togethers. He suggested that ESAT's annual meetings be at various historical sites throughout the state.

Karas spoke of the possibility of publicity devices such as bumper stickers. Members should support'

12 ethnic affairs and celebrations, and he should be informed of all such activity.

Calvin Chervenka gave the treasurer's report. The club checking account in Granger National Bank is $1969.24, with $30,000 in Certificate of Deposit.

Disbursements were accounted for, including $650 grant to UT in the summer of 1979 and $251 to the attorney for automatic extension deadline on taxes.

The tax exempt status of the organization has not yet been completed

by Raymond Prasatik. The Teresa Boucek estate donated $500 to the organization Blaha suggested that officers be authorized to use 6ESAT funds as needed, to transfer funds into higher-interest accounts, and so on.

NEW BUSINESS Roger Kolar asked about loan procedures. C. Chervenka explained that an applicant writes the secretary for an application. The four officers of MATICE decide on the loan, after checking references.

M. Hegar and Joe Skrivanek spoke of the need for more publicity, since no one has applied for a loan in the last year.

Hegar suggested- that C 'ESAT set up booths at ethnic festivals, and B. Pivonka suggested loan officers in each locale, who would explain loan procedures to those interested.

Kolar explained that a CESAT brochure was unfinished, because of lack of good photographs and changes needed in the copy. He suggested that annual loan deadlines be set up.

A motion was made by A. Blaha that the public relations committee be authorized $500 to produce a brochure within three months, to be subject to the approval of the president. B. Pivonka seconded, and the motion carried.

Hegar suggested that the status of all loan recipients not be revealed to the entire membership. He asked about the separation of the organzation's general fund from the scholarship fund.

C. Chervenka expiated how MATICE functions within CESAT, having control of the bulk of the funds.

A. Blaha recognized Clint Machann for the Czech symposium held in October, 1978, in Temple.

J. Skrivanek recognized Dr. Dabbs, former department head at A&M. Dr. Dabbs inquired about the organization's need for a budget.

A. Blaha suggested a periodic newsletter and made that into the form of a motion. He moved that ESAT publish a quarterly periodical, cost not

to exceed $100 quarterly, to be the responsibility of the secretary, to be distributed to all interested persons and groups. Mrs. Skrivanek seconded the motion and it carried.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS Machann appointed a nominating committee of B. Pivonka, A. Blaha, and R. Kolar to nominate candidates for ESAT president, vice-president, and secretary; and MATICE secretary and treasurer (who serve two-year terms).

The meeting recessed briefly. When it was called to order again, R. Kolar, speaking for the nominating committee, nominated the following slate: For t ESAT: President: Clint Machann Vice-president: Joseph Skrivanek Secretary: Patricia Kolar For MATICE: Secretary: Lillian Pivonka Treasurer: Calvin Chervenka M. Hegar moved, seconded by Mrs. Karas, that nominations cease and that the nominated slate be elected by acclamation. The motion carried, and the new officers took over the meeting.

OTHER NEW BUSINESS A discussion of regional meetings and the site of next year's annual meeting followed.

C. Chervenka moved that the president be authorized to encourage regional meetings to promote t ESAT and its purposes. M. Hegar seconded and the motion carried.

J. Skrivanek suggested that someone serve as parliamentarian. Machann appointed Skrivanek to do so.

Blaha expressed an interest in supporting another Czech symposium.

Chervenka briefly discussed his ideas for mini-symposiums: weekends devoted to geneology, athletics, and other aspects of the Texas Czech culture.

Machann appointed a committee of Blaha, Chervenka, and Lillian Skrivanek to investigate and work on proposals of this sort.

Blaha moved, seconded by Hegar, that t ESAT support a program (like the previous symposium) to promote Czech culture. The motion carried.

Mrs. Agnes Kostroun of Cameron requested the names of persons who might be interested in teaching a high school Czech class in Cameron. VESTNfIC C. Chervenka reported on a federal report, "Strength through Wisdom," which endorses foreign language study and on new TEA regulations regarding language teaching. Teachers are now needed for high school classes in Temple and Cameron.

Mildred Chervenka reported on Czech Day at the State Fair in Dallas.

Czech Day has been officially set for the first Sunday of the fair, this year, October 5.

Mrs. Chervenka mentioned the summer Czech classes in Dallas.

Various ethnic festivals were mentioned: KJT Czech Day at Wallis; St. Cyril! and Methodius Day, July 13 in Houston; a performance by Waldemar Matuska, June 6 in Dallas; and the Austin Folk Festival, June 6, 7 and 8.

Chervenka mentioned letters he had written to the Vest's& regarding SPJST support of Czech language education.

B. and L. Pivonka discussed their difficulties with facility use for their Czech classes in Houston.

M. Hegar issued a challenge to each member to bring two new members to the next meeting.

C. Chervenka reported that he will have a cultural display in the City Hall at Westfest.

C. Machann reminded the membership that executive committee meetings are open to the membership and they will be informed of them.

C. Chervenka moved, seconded by R. Kolar, that L. Prikryl be reimbursed for his expenses. The motion carried.

There is no admission charge or pre-registration required for other than the delegates, so all you have to do is to be present. there are always a number of interesting section sessions and committee reports that should be of interest to all fraternalists.

Of special interest always is the Youth Spectacular, which is comprised of young people from all of the member-Societies entertaining those present. This year the Spectacular is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 11th, preceded by a meeting of the Youth Section of the TFC at 2:30 p.m. Three youth of the SPJST, selected by the Youth Department, will appear as panelists at the Youth Section in the afternoon, and the SPJST has traditionally been well represented in the Youth Spectacular. The Youth Section will be held in the Holiday Inn, and the Youth Spectacular at the New Braunfels Civic Center, the change in location being necessitated by space requirements.

The Youth Spectacular is always followed by an evening buffet, this year scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

On the morning of Saturday, October 11th, the Fraternal Affairs Section meets, and this year is scheduled to have some interesting speakers from either the State Legislature in Austin or the State Board of Insurance. This section is being chaired this year by Ben Janda of the KJT and part of the program is being arranged for by Nick A. Morris, president of the Supreme Lodge of the SPJST in Temple.

TFC President Mrs. Ruth Harper of the Grand Court Order of Calanthe of New Braunfels has announced that the banquet speaker on Friday night will be Dr. John King, president of the Houston Tillotson College. Mark France, consulting actuary with Rudd and Wisdom, Inc., of Austin, will address the delegates to the convention on Saturday morning. Other speakers are also scheduled.

In the recent board meeting of the TFC, a discussion was held about the importance of the Fraternal Affairs Section presenting a program to better enlighten and inform State officials, particularly members of both houses of the Legislature and the State Insurance Department, about the activities and purposes of fraternal benefit Societies in the State of Texas. To that end, Secretary-Treasurer Walt Mueller, Jr., submitted a resolution to the board that they nominate an individual to act as

14 liaison between the Texas Fraternal Congress and the State Insurance Dept. and both houses of the Legislature. It was then moved that Nick Morris, president of the SPJST, be nominated to this position. His nomination was unanimously accepted and approved, whereupon Bro. Morris stressed that he would try to improve the fraternal image with the various state agencies about what all the fraternal benefit societies are doing to help the people of Texas. In a recent letter to Bro. Morris, Sec.-Trea. er Mueller stated that, "...It was a very productive meeting and I am in total agreement with you that the decisions that were reached at the meeting were very beneficial to the TFC...I am quite pleased that you accepted the position as liaison between the Texas Fraternal Congress member-Societies, the State Board of Insurance and the State Legislature. I know that with your abilities and dedication you will be able to establish a good relationship between the Congress and the two bodies. If I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to give me a call."

Members of the SPJST are urged to become interested and involved in the work of the Texas Fraternal Congress because its work is not only for the delegates who attend; it must have the broad base support of fraternalists in general. EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT NATIONAL FRATERNAL CONGRESS OF AMERICA ADDRESSING DELEGATES AND VISITORS AT THE XXIII QUADRENNIAL CONVENTION SUPREME LODGE, SPJST IN SAN ANTONIO ON JUNE 10, 1980 It is my personal privilege and genuine pleasure to bring to you the greetings and good wishes of the National Fraternal Congress of America's executive committee and its nearly 100 member societies. I want'to express our thanks for the leadership the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas has always provided to the Fraternal Benefit System and to express our sincere hope that you will continue to do so in the future.

I consider myself fortunate to be affiliated with the National Fraternal Congress because it has afforded me the privilege of working with your very capable executives. Your President Nick Morris has served on many very important committees of the congress. In addition his service was of great value during a legislative session a few years ago. One of your Directors, Sid Pokladnik, served as a member of our executive committee for several years and he has also assumed responsibility of chairing several important other committee assignments. I am grateful for the services of these fine gentlemen, Leonard Mikeska and Jerry Mikulas.

As I was flying to San Antonio this morning I was doing some work on my

VESTNiIC diary which I maintain for reporting my activities to the NFCA executive committee and all of a sudden I felt very tired. Now I knew it was not because I had gotten up at 6 o'clock this morning.

I always do that! Then I thought perhaps it is because of the heavy schedule I have had these past few months. But that could not be the cause either; I always have that kind of schedule. So I thought a little deeper and realized that the United States has a population of 200 million people. Of these, 72 million are over 65 years of age, leaving 128 million people to do the work. When you subtract the 75 million under 21, you get 53 million. There are also 27,471,002 people employed by the Federal Government which leaves 25,528,998 to do the work, and when you subtract from this the fifteen million on state and city government payrolls, and the 1,520,000 in hospitals, mental institutions and similar places, the work force is reduced to 1,520,000. Fine...But there are an estimated 800,500 bums, vagrants, and others with a pathological fear of work.

That leaves 208,498 people to carry the national work load, 208,425 of whom are presently behind bars--which leaves you and me! I don't know about you, but I am getting tired!

On the archives building in Washington, D.C., there is inscribed the legend "What is past is Prologue." Today we salute the past, but we look to the future.

Yesterday is challenge; tomorrow is opportunity. The SPJST exists to serve the Czech-American family. You have flourished because you have served well.

Public confidence, the foundation of success, rests upon a general belief in the soundness, the strength, the efficiency and the essential integrity of your institution. However, good reputation, the greatest asset of any enterprise, must be a true reflection of character in order to be long maintained. Every business must justify itself to each succeeding generation. It must advance with progress, adapt itself to change, while holding fast to the tested and true. We have full faith that in the fraternal benefit system the stalk will not wither nor the leaf grow sere, but that the system will continue to bring forth good fruit in season. We hold like hopes for the SPJST. May its future be worthy of its past.

As we look backward over the records of achievements of the Fraternal Benefit System, we can readily classify the present as an era of modern methods and constant progress. The means of transportation in this country of ours has progressed from ox cart to automobile; from covered wagons to super jet liners.

Fraternalism in America has advanced from the crude plans of its founders and early builders to our present day intimate knowledge of life expectancy. John J. Upchurch, and other pioneer fraternalists, promulgated the principle of home protection that later became a cause, that cause today is a mighty institution. There has been too much of service to humanity in the first 109 years of fraternal operation in the United States and Canada to be lightly considered. There has been too much of blindness in the dispensing of several billions of dollars in benefits to be lost in the sea of forgetfulness. No human tongue can ever tell the misery, suffering, and heartaches that this vast sum of money has prevented. No words can express the great good that has been accomplished by its distribution, at the very time and to the vet-Crplace it was most needed.

We have emerged from the assessment period and entered a new era with credit to ourselves. Fraternals are now able to offer to the insuring public, life insurance certificates containing the same options and equities as those of the commercial industry. To this is added that pearl beyond price--Fraternity. In thousands of lodges, camps, branches, councils, courts, we may witness today a practical exemplification of the brotherhood of man.

The superiority of fraternal protection over any other piece of life insurance in this new era is largely due to the fact that it is based on mutual helpfulness. Close association formed in the lodge room, sympathy and aid tendered in times of distress--these are the ties which bind the members of our societies in bonds of common interest. Instead of each for self--each has been for all and all for each. Fraternalism and life insurance protection go hand in hand as necessary adjuncts to each other, because financial provisions for the future welfare of a family, rests on a foundation of love, unselfishness and mutuality. It is an affair of the heart. Fraternalism develops in its every group of warm hearted human beings, an absorbing interest in each other's welfare.

For 83 years, the SPJST has been exemplifying in a practical way this very concept of human relation.

Never were your principles so prominent in the public mind as at present. Never before have they appealed with such irresistible force to intelligent men and women. Entering this new era, we find that the tide of progress has set in our way. Take advantage of it. This new era can be a fraternal age. The American

15 public can be made to realize that the SPJST can furnish in addition to life insurance real and practical concern for others.

Let us summon up every ounce of energy we possess to plant the banner of fraternalism on the parapet of popular favor, to show that we are alive and awake to possibilities looming on the horizon. The fraternal benefit societies should and must continue to foster the ideals and principles founded by the pioneers of fraternalism. Strong financially, thoroughly acceptable socially, we should now buckle on the armour of activity and advance among the people, expectantly, confidently.

In this time of transition, when long established ideas and customs are being abandoned, the American people are seeking something strong and enduring to which they may cling. Financial and political policies the world over, are being constantly shifted so as to catch the breeze of temporary advantage. Statesmen come and go--kings and dictators die and are forgotten, yet, religion and fraternity--the church and the lodge--will live on and on, inspiring generation after generation because they have within themselves more of the seeds of immortality than anything else on earth--the Fatherhood of God--the Brotherhood of Man. --SPJST-

CENTRAL MODEL IRONCRAFT

STUDIO WINS TOP AWARD IN NATIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP COMPETITION Central Model Ironcraft Studio, located at 4527 Central Expressway in Dallas, Texas, has won an award in metalcraft competition sponsored by the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA) which has headquarters here.

The firm, operated by Stanley Vrla, received the Gold Award (first place) in the 'Stair Railings, Exterior or Interior" category of NOMMA's 1980 Top Job competition. The event is sponsored annually to encourage quality fabrication of metal products for homeowners and other users.

NOMMA is the trade association of the ornamental, miscellaneous and light-structural metal fabricating industry in the United States and has a membership of over 500 firms across the nation and in Canada, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and West Germany.

[Editor's note: Brother Stanley Vrla is a member of SPJST Lodge Jaro (meaning Spring) No. 130, Dallas, was a PC member 1969 to 1972 and attended the XXIII SPJST Convention last week in San Antonio as a delegate.)

Suzanne Hixson Suzanne Hixson graduated from Alvarado High School as Valedictorian of the 1980 class with a grade point average of 96.18. A member of the National Honor Society she was president of the organization her senior year. As a member of the yearbook staff three years, she was Assistant Editor, Co-Editor and Editor-in-Chief. She was elected State Secretary of the Interscholastic League Press Conference in Austin in 1979.

Suzie was also a member of the Golden Warrior Band for four years playing clarinet in the marching and concert band and saxophone in the stage band. She was in the All-District Band, named Outstanding Freshman and Senior Band Student, served as sophomore representative on the Band Council, elected President and named Band Captain her senior year.

She was named best All-Round Student by the faculty for three years and voted Most Studious by the student body, elected FFA Sweetheart and was manager of the baseball and basketball teams and participated in the UIL one-act play competition. She received the DAR Good Citizen Award representing her school in Johnson County, In addition to her scholastic activities, Suzie has worked for a local veterinarian for the past three years. A member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cleburne she was active in the CYO and served as a lector this past year. She and her family are members of SPJST Lodge No. 92 in Fort Worth.

Margaret Palms and Patrick Barrett Are Wed During Nuptial Mass Miss Margaret Agnes Palms and Mr. Patrick John Barrett were united in Holy Matrimony at 8 p.m. on May 30th at Christ The King Catholic Church in Dallas.

Rev. Msgr. Robert Rehkemper, Vicar General, Diocese of Dallas, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. Howard Palms of 7707 Royal Lane, Dallas and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Frank D. Barrett and the late Mr. Barrett of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

Donald Howard and Richard Nesbitt were ushers.

The wedding music was provided by organist Noel Goenanne and the Dallas Catholic Choir.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride selected her mother's brocade wedding dress. To complement her dress, she carried a traditional bouquet of pink roses.

The bridegroom wore a grey pin-striped Edwardian tuxedo.

Serving as Matron of Honor was Mrs. Deloria Ruyle of New Jersey. Nancy Ann Palms, sister of the bride, of Dallas, was Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Janet Hayes of Fairfield, Iowa, and Dianne May, also of Fairfield, Iowa, and Sue Proudfoot of Dallas. All of the attendants were dressed in pink and traditional pink and white bouquets completed their ensemble.

Craig Anderson of Fairfield, Iowa, served as best man. Other attendants were Scott Snyder, Tom Jordan and Richard Nesbitt, all of Dallas. All of them wore grey pin-striped Edwardian tuxedos.

Kristin Palms, niece of the bride, of Dallas was flower girl and Damon Capehart, also of Dallas, served as ringbearer.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Gorman Center at University of Dallas. Pink and white roses were chosen for decorations.

The deadline for you Youth Achievement Day entry blanks was set for June 23rd but we have a two-day extension and the deadline is today, June 25th. If you have not mailed your entry blanks, please do so today because today is your final day.

The YAD is set for July 13 at Lodge No. 24 in Cyclone as the host lodge. The YAD will start at about 2 p.m. but watch for the exact time in a later issue of the Vestnik.

The deadline for camp application blanks is July 6th. This includes the leaders' and chaperones' blanks because we have to know how many leaders and chaperones will attend camp and also specify "Junior Camp or "Teen Camp." The teens will go first and will arrive at Camp Val Verde at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26 and will leave after the noon meal Tuesday, July 29 at about 1:30 p.m. The juniors will arrive at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 29 and will have to eat their noon meal at home or take a sack lunch; they will have their first meal at 6:30 p.m. and then they will leave August 1st at about 4 p.m. Please watch for exact details on both activities at a later date..

From The Lodge Youth Leaders LODGE NO. 6, COTTONWOOD Dear Members and Readers: The youth club meeting was held June 6th at 8 p.m. with a good attendance.

District III Youth Counselor Ed Kamas visited at our lodge May 30th.

We all were so glad to see you; come back to see us whenever you can.

May was a busy month for the youth club members. May 14th, the club had a program at the West Rest Home also brought corsages the youth made. After the program at the rest home, the youngsters went to the Pizza House and had a pizza party. May 16th, the club had a Tupperware party and sales; they did real well on their sales. May 25th, all the youth members went bowling to Westview Bowling Lanes, and all of them had an enjoyable time.

The youth club made gifts for mothers and fathers. They also made cards. All of the cards were very pretty..

Brother Ed Kamas and Brother Ernest Grmela were the judges for the card contest. Thank you very much.

We still are selling tickets on the shawl and pitcher and glass-set.

The club members are practicing on their talent numbers and Beseda.

Birthday in June was for Kathy Brem.

Tammie Dobecka brought the cake.

She has served as youth club president, vice president, treasurer, and served on various committees. Pam has won district and state honors at Youth Achievement Day. She has really benefited our youth club and we wish her a lot of good luck in all her future endeavors.

Dear Readers, We had an outing at our club May 18, 1980. We had a baseball game, hayride, and a wiener roast.

First, we played baseball and it was a lot of fun. Next, we went on a hayride and it almost rained. When we returned, we had hot dogs and lot of good food.

We also had guessing games to win gum, peanuts and candy. It was also our honorary grandmother's birthday.

Under old business we were asked to turn in our points for the last three months and also turn in our camp forms for camp which will be held June 23 through 26 at Bastrop State Park.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Michelle Krpec and Lenice Kaspar.

Dear Readers, The regular business meeting of the Warrenton Lodge 179 Youth Club was on June 12th. Susie Harper served as president; Anna Key led the pledge.

Melissa Wickel called the roll and read the minutes. Rhonda Eckermann gave the treasurer's report.

Our next meeting will precede the swimming party social on July 10th at 7 p.m. at La Grange pool.

Sandy Heinz is in charge of our float to be entered in July 4th parade at Round Top; Rhonda Oltmann, the sign; and Ann Harper, the tractor to pull the float.

We will also sell snow cones and tea at the Square on July 4th. Jeanette Schoenst, Liz and Russell Klump and Melissa Wickel are in charge of this stand. Doris Eckermann will order the supplies needed for the stand. For our feast on August 10th, we will have a plant and cake walk. Jeanette Schoenst will see about the plants, all members are to furnish one wrapped cake. We will also help sell tickets.

Our delegate to the convention, Dorothy Oltmann, told us about the 'Miss SPJST' contest.

Following the meeting we had refreshments, hot dogs for supper with lots of desserts and the Junior group

21 presented their talent entry for YAD. I enjoyed seeing everyone at YAD in Brenham. Our leaders informed us of a great surprise following the day's events.

DISTRICT V YOUTH CLUB Dear Members, The District V Youth Club held a picnic Saturday, Nay 17th. Swimming and outdoor games were enjoyed by all. We also had a delicious meal.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 107, Floresville, in behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family of our departed lodge brother BOHUSLAV PAVLISKA, who passed away March 9th, 1980 at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 14 days.

Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Earl (Christina) McIntosh of El Paso and Mrs. Anton (Mary Lou) Jaskinia of Koscinsko; sons, Leo Pavliska, Daniel Pavliska, both of San Antonio, Raymond Pavliska of Seymour and Henry Pavliska of Hallettsville; 23 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

One son, Arthur preceded his father in death, February 1977.

A requiem mass was offered by Rev. Michael Dwyer at the Sacred Heart Church of Floresville.

We would like to extend our sympathy also to Mrs. Bohuslav (Frances) Pavliska, who died April 18, 1980, shortly after the passing of Mr. Bohuslav Pavliska.

our heartfelt sympathy to the family of our departed lodge brother ALVIN M. [PETE] HEIN, age 71, of Route 4, Caldwell, who passed away in the Veterans Hospital in Temple, Wednesday morning, May 14, 1980.

Brother Hein was born November 7, 1908, in Burleson County, the son of the late William C. Hein and Mary Dungen Hein. He was a farmer and had lived all his life in Burleson County. He was married to Lucille Isbell, December 23, 1941, in Caldwell. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army, a member of the Harmony Baptist Church, and SPJST Lodge No. 17 of New Tabor.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.

Friday in Phillips-Luckey Chapel with the Rev. Greg Forte, pastor of the Harmony Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lucille Hein of Caldwell; two brothers, Lee Hein of Caldwell and Raymond Hein of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Emma) Norville and Mrs. Henry (Bessie) Drahem of Caldwell, Mrs. J.A. (Estelle) Wilhelm of Old Ocean and Mrs. L.O. (Irene) Tate of Houston. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Hugo, Joe F. and Willie Hein, and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Schoppe.

Serving as pallbearers were Samuel Hein, James Hein, Kelly Hein, Ronnie Davis, Turner Ferrell and Elmer Rickey.

A lifetime resident of Schulenburg, he was 60 years, 3 months and 6 days old.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m.

Monday, May 26, at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Jim Barlow officiating at the funeral mass. Burial was in, the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.

He was born February 18, 1920, the son of the late Frank and Hermina (Ermis) Holub. Oct. 28, 1946, he was united in marriage to Mary Frances Heger at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Weimar, and the couple settled on their farm in the Middle Creek area He was a veteran of World War II. At the time of his death, he was serving as vice president of SPJST Lodge No 67 and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Holub, daughter, Miss Belinda Ann Holub and sons, Ervin, F. Holub and James Allen Holub, all of Schulenburg; two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Lillie) Taylor and Mrs. Emil (Martha) Pesek, also of Schulenburg and a brother, Alfred Holub of Weimar; also two grandsons, WayIon and Wade Holub.

Sister Boehm was born in Victoria County 29 November 1895 to the late John H. and Theresa Lesikar Mikeska.

She was, preceded in death by her husband, Emil Boehm who passed away in 1937 and also a son, Allen Boehm who passed away in 1979.

John T. Cox had been County Auditor since June, 1976.

He was a native of Central Texas and was born in The Grove. He received a bachelor of business degree, from Texas A and M University in College Station in 1974 and a law degree from Baylor University in Waco in 1954.

He was married in 1952 to the former Lorraine Crowder.

Brother Cox was a member of the State Legislature from 1955 to 1960 and was County Auditor from 1961 to 1970.

He went into private law practice for six years. In June, 1976, the Bell County District Judges appointed him County Auditor. He served two two-year terms in the appointive position.

Survivors are his widow, Lorraine Cox of Temple; two sons, James M. Cox of Stafford, and John T. Cox, Jr. r of Temple; a brother, Dr. C.H. Cox Jr. of Temple; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Cox, Sr. of Temple; and one grandchild.

Services for John T. Cox, Sr. were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Temple with the Reverend Joe Broadway officiating. Burial was held in the Moffat Cemetery near Moffat.

Harper-Talasek Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
