From The Editor In this issue we are finally being able to print the pictures of the evening when Wednesday, April 16 of this year Brother Jerry Mikulas, Jr. was honored on his 20 years of loyal and fraternal service to our SPJST Society. No matter how hard we try, in taking pictures, something will generally happen to one or two out of a roll of 20 to cause them not to come out: maybe a flash from another camera, a bad spot in the film, etc. That is what happened in this case and, luckily, we were able to obtain pictures of our SL Vice-President Gebala and President Morris taken by someone else; however. they were in color and, therefore, are dimmer because of the difference in developing them to black and white.

All SL officers made appropriate comments that evening and Brother Morris' are included in this issue. It is certain that Brother Mikulas, just as Brother Mikeska, in the not too far past. appreciated this token of recognition for faithful service and justly so. *** Many of our readers will and do remember Dr. Henry R. Mares n of Houston and, also,'the co-author of the well-read book: "Czech Pioneers of the Southwest." Your editor knew the doctor well and the family also. His son, Harlan, has stopped by our office a number of times and is a very good conversationalist. Dr. Maresh, Br. J.M. Skrabanek, Br. Sid Pokladnik, your editor and others were co-founders of the CEFT (Czech Education Foundation Of Texas) to help students in learning the Czech language. Dr. John Skrivanek and his brother Joe were the instigators of the worthy idea.

Recently, we received a very nice letter from Mrs. Thelma Maresh Muston: (formerly Mrs. Henry R. Maresh). It stated tht sometimes she does not receive the Vestnik. We will try to correct that!

It reads in part: I miss the Vestnik; it's the only way I can keep up with my Czech friends in Houston and other places.

I am married to a Canadian and we spend six months in Canada and six months in Texas - the best of both countries. This is a beautiful, clean country and I really enjoy my summers here; this is the third.

Wednesday, May 21, 1980 ** The main thing is: collect all you will need at the conventions and have it ready to go when that weekend in June rolls, around; you will need your material at that time! *** Desire it or not our XXIII convention, will be here like the weather; we cannot stop it. In that connection, your editor wishes to Again stress the importance of our lodges sending their contributions to the convention issue as early as possible; time is getting too short! Remember that that particular copy is supposed to be twice as large as the regular weekly copy of the Vestnik and, therefore, will take twice as much time to compose and compile. Please send in your copy immediately!

FelloW SL Officers presented tokens of appreciation to Brother Mikulas for SPJST. First was SL Legal Adviser Reuben B. Lesikar.

BROTHER JERRY MIKULAS HONORED Jerry started working for the former Financial Secretary of the Supreme Lodge, Bro. Raymond Urbanovsky on August 1, 1960. His first check was dated August 29, 1960 in the amount of $148.45. His salary was $175 per month!

Jerry continued to work for Bro. Urbanovsky until Bro. Ben Zabcik's election to that office starting 1 January 1961 and worked with Bro. Zabcik until his retirement after the 1976 convention in Waco. In that convention he was elected Financial Secretary of the Supreme Lodge, succeeding Bro. Zabcik. Jerry held various titles while' he worked in the Financial Secretary's office - among them bookkeeper, head bookkeeper, 1st assistant to the financial secretary, assistant to the financial secretary, and "The Walking Computer". Currently, there is a proposal to change the title of his office to Comptroller in place of financial secretary. Whatever the titles have been or whatever the titles may be in the future, the titles that fit him best are loyalty, integrity, and dependability.

Next was SL Secretary-Treasurer Leonar-d Mikeska. has missed in the office due to personal illness; there have been almost none in these 20 years.

We also acknowledge the support, moral and otherwise, that his wife Betty has given him since they have been married. Jerry and Betty have three children, Wade, Donna, and Chad. We are also pleased to have with us Jerry's. mother, Mrs. Lillie Mikulas.

On a personal note, I wish to state: that when my family and I moved to Bell' County and were seeking a place to live, we were fortunate to find a few acres in East Bell County in the Seaton community and we built a home. All of our neighbors are Czechs. I met a lot of people then and since in the Seaton Community. One of those was the late Jerry Mikulas, Jerry's father. He and I

VESTN1IC FROM THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE History Project Update Dear Members: As previously promised, this is a report giving the latest status on the history of the lodges as of May 15th. A few more lodges have sent in their histories since the last report; in fact, a few have sent theirs in after I started working on this update and are included in it.

I am indicating the status of each lodge - whether it is complete, sand if not, what exactly is lacking. If there are no major changes, this will be the status by the time of the convention. It is anticipated that the entire project can go to the publisher sometime before the end of the year. Please study the report carefully and govern yourselves accordingly.

SL Mice-President Bernard M. Gebala made his presentation. (By this time little Chad-Wayne was fit to be tied; he wanted to See what was inside of those packages.)

SL President Nick A. Morris presented Brother Jerry with a nice and appropriate plaque. (Comments in this issue.) enjoyed a very cordial and I think close, personal relationship and every time we met we would, of course, discuss the SPJST and his family and inevitably the conversation would turn to Jerry and the job he was doing in the Supreme Lodge for the SPJST. There was and is, no question in my mind that he was very proud of Jerry's accomplishments and if he were with us today, he would certainly be the first to speak highly of

his son. I enjoyed his company.

Jerry, we know you don't like all this praise and flowery statements, so I'll just put it simply: the SPJST has been and will be fortunate to have had the benefit of your services the past 20 years and all of us hope that you are with us at least that many more years.

REPORTS DISTRICT II SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT Dear Sales Representatives: First I would like to congratulate Brother Ray Woytek on winning the "Meet You At The Alamo" contest. He and his wife will be honored guests at the S MST Convention. His annualized premium was $3,994.49.

Our April sales were very good with 70 members for $675,500 in insurance sales for a total of 310 members for $2,070,500 in insurance sales.

The three top sales representatives were: (1) Ray Woytek - 13 mem. for $314,000; (2) Norma Andel - 5 mem. for $225,000 and (3) Nancy Madsen - 10 mem. for $38,000.

LODGE NO. 47, SEATON

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Our last monthly lodge meeting followed a covered dish supper honoring area high school graduates Monday, May 5th, 1980. The supper was held at 7 p.m., and the meeting at 8 p.m

After calling the meeting to order, President Jerry Pechal asked the flag bearers, Gene Skrabanek and David Pechal, to lead all in the pledge to the United States flag.

The youth leader, Shirley Patterson, was asked for her part to honor the graduates. She then called upon SL President Nick Morris for his speech to the graduates and rest of the youth club and adult members of Lodge No. 47, too.- He stated that the youth should be prepared tochange the course of their future studies and that "fun" is not the only happiness because their job will be to replace the adults of today. The youth aged 16 think they are too old for the youth club but the dizzy cycle is in store for all young people and when they become older (20-30), they will grasp for a re-entry back to the SPJST family and lodge work.

Those graduates honored and present were Jerrie Ann Skrabanek, Sherry ,Skrabanek and Jerry May. Peggy ,Mesecke, Janet Sodek, Nancy Wilson Michael Merka had previous (commitments and could not be present.

After the presentations of plaques, boutonnieres and corsages and monetary 'gifts from the lodge, the youth members returned to their meeting in the youth room.

President Pechal then welcomed all to the lodge meeting and recognized the visitors: Ann Balusek and Marylou Skrabanek.

Secretary Sister Ginger Klusacek called the roll of officers and sales representatives and read the minutes of the previous meeting and their approval.

Correspondence included the Mortuary dues from the Supreme Lodge; "thank-you" notes from Brother Joe F. Marinik for the get-well cards and a "thank-you" note from the family of Brother Frank Novosad for honors

bestowed on their husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather when the lodge and Supreme Lodge. presented him with a boutonniere, cake, a supper in his honor, and the check to cover his policy certificate which he outlived, and the fellowship enjoyed by all.

The Investigating Committee recommended the following for membership: William B. Schneider, Jonathan Bryan Lamb, Lorin Evelyn Holstead, Raymond Lee Halstead, Brandon Keith Bartek, James Ryan Loving, Tonya Marie Loving, Richard Joe Sauls and Lisa Diane Sauls. Also Alfred Klusacek, Martha L. Klusacek and Adeline Esther Kohutek took out additional policies and a conversion from JT for Deborah Ann Motl and transfers in to Lodge No. 47 were: James D. Lesikar II and Ludine L. Lesikar from Lodge No. 88. James E. Spanhel and Ronson Pechal transferred to Lodge No. 177. A warm welcome to everyone for choosing Lodge No. 47.

In the hospital, on the sick list since the previous meeting, were: Brothers Joe F. Marinik, Joe I. Kruse and Frank Novosad and Sister Martha Dubcak.

Brother Novosad broke his hip soor after the celebration we held for him and his recovery is expected to slow; after all he is 96 years old. Since the meeting, Brother Albert (J.R.) Glaser and Sister Rosie Pechal are hospitalized as of this writing. My mother-in-law had a pacemaker for three years and its battery went dead and she had to have a new pacemaker to replace it. We hope everyone will recover satisfactorily so they m . ', return to their homes.

President Pechal requested the monthly reports from the officers and chairpersons in charge. All gave good reports. The "Moravanka" dance was also reported on and everyone commented on the performance. The Audit report was given by Brother Frank Klinkovsky. The Planning and Improvement Committee reported that the sign is completed 'and the lighted signs fOr the restrooms and exits, are being awaited soon and then will be installed, and so will the fluorescent lights above the area the meeting is held. The Board of Trustees' minutes; were read and one correction was needed.

Under new business the picnic was brought up. But after most of the chairpersons were selected, there was a conflict that the youth club members and chairpersons will be at ,District II summer youth camp. Therefore, a band had been hired already and the president is to hire one more band and

hold a battle dance Sunday, July 27th instead of a picnic. More details for the future as they will be available.

The April birthdays were overlooked because of the fast pace of March 30th meeting honoring the 50-year recipients and the paidout policy of 96-year-old Brother Novosad. Sister Anna Shenkir was the only one with a birthday in April. Anniversaries in April were: Willie and Adeline Kohutek, Bill and Lillian Kosarek and Floyd and Emily Stuteville. May birthdays were: Brothers Alfred Klusacek, Louis Marek and Henry Mares, and Sister Lillie Mikulas. (No wedding anniversaries) Happy birthday to all named and all others also. Congratulations to those celebrating wedding anniversaries.

Youth Leader Shirley Patterson gave the youth leader's report and the results of the election of officers.

The names of recipients of premium refund checks were read by the lodge secretary.

Door prize winners were Ruby L. Bolton and Charlie Marek.

The next lodge meeting is set for Monday, June 2nd, 1980 at 8 p.m. just a few days before the delegates gather in San Antonio for the deliberations and actions that will govern our Society for the next four years.

Dear Members and Guests: We had the Ranch Hands to entertain our dancing fans. We had a fair crowd, and, as always it appears that we have new faces that appear; they entered our lodge for the first time. It seemed that everybody had a good time.

It is Mother's Day today which is a special event in our country and world; without mothers, this world would not be fit to live in. In our lodge, every year, we give special recognition to the oldest member of the lodge present: This year it was Julia Allbright; the mother with the most children was Slivena fvfichka with nine (9) children, and all are members oft the SPJST; the youngest mother was Casey Minter. Each one of the mentioned honored mothers received a beautiful corsage.

We were all happy to see James Avery with us again; he had back surgery and was not able to come to our lodge activities. We were also happy' to have Mr. and Mrs. George ChromCak, Mr. and Mrs. Bulter and many others who have been missed for some time. We are

Dear Members: _ Lodge No. 17 held its regular meeting May 4th at 2 p.m. with all officers present.

We had no new members.

We wish to thank the KCs for the use of their speaker; to the American Legion for the use of their game cards; and to Brother Mocek for the wood he donated.

The hardship cases were discussed (sin .ce this is convention year) but we seem to have none.

Custodian Louis Faust resigned, but will stay on until a new one is elected.

The Board of Trustees will meet after this meeting to discuss duties and salary of the custodian.

Auditing Committee will also meet.

The next meeting will be held June 1st, 1980.

For the Board of Trustees, Otis Beck, chairman, gave the following report: The lockers have been purchased, new lighted exit signs have also been purchased. We are to obtain new exit doors. The bathrooms will be redone and the telephone is going to be moved. The land that was purchased has been landscaped; but after the rains, there will be more landscaping done.

Dorothy Lisenbe read two correspondence "Thank-you" notes from Minnie Lagrane and Ann Cox. Frankie Hutka suggested that our next monthly meeting be changed, due to the convention. The meeting will be held June 4th instead of June 11th, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The youth club meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. Please attend.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON The dance Saturday, May 10th with music by Vrazels orchestra was enjoyed by a nice attendance honoring all mothers present; with only a small admission fee of $1.00. During intermission four prizes were awarded.

The first prize was bestowed to the oldest mother present: Sister Gazela Huber being over sixty years of age, won a huge Hydrangea plant (Gazela, you were lucky I was not there, I would have walked off with that prize with colors); the second prize was a Glaxinna pot plant that went to Mrs. Frank Adamek with the most children from Schulenburg, Tx.; the third prize was won by Mrs. Cynthia Beal being the youngest mother of 24 years of age. She won a beautiful Kolanche pot plant; the fourth prize went to the couple that traveled the furtherest to Houston: Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Martinka of Denver,.Ark. They won three admission dance tickets to our dance (anytime).

The committee of the evening was Orville and Juanita Simon in charge of the dance, and helping them were Gus and Ann Gerlich with Norman and Margie Sachnik; the six of them were quite busy. Harley Cox also was present.

The three ladies were sporting lo-ely corsages; the symbol of Mother's Day. A wedding party took over Tables.

Another wedding took place Friday, May 9th, 1980 to join two beautiful young people in matrimony: Ronnie Bennett and Jode Elzner in a double; wedding ring ceremony. This beautiful wedding took place in the River Oaks Baptist Church at 7:30 p.m., with hundreds of guests present to witness the exchange of this couple's vows; it was very touching. The groom was dressed in white tails, and the best man, Rick Bennett, with four groomsmen, were all dressed in beige tails: Dean Stone, Dwayne Hennick, Kenneth Broz and John Elzner waited at the altar for the four bridesmaids to join them. They were Maid of Honor Vicky Hegwood, and bridesmaids Rochelle Kennedy, Cindy Wehring, Lindsey Broz and Tami

Copeland; all were dressed in rose-colored long gowns with flowers to match. The little flower girl, Ashly Zaludek, and the ring bearer, Douglas Bartula, were both precious. The bride Jode Elzner, walked down the aisle on the arm of Joel Kennedy, dressed in a beautiful bridal gown with a wide-brimmed hat and a flowing veil in the back, adorned her lovely hair. (She was like a queen). Serving as ush .:rs were Jeff Elmer, Mark Wheeler and Bobby Davis.

Soloists were Helen Hegwood and Carl Pollex. The reception was held collowing the ceremony in the Chandelier Ballroom of Lodge No. 88. Everything was lovely and decorated by Edna Wehring, flowers

by V. Baldree, and the delicious wedding cakes by Peggy Tepera of Corpus Christi.

The wedding march was led by Don and Ruth Bakula. Refreshments were served and a most delicious buffet meal followed with music through the evening.

We all wish you both much happiness and a long enjoyable life together.

The lodge meeting Monday, May 12th was fairly-attended and satisfactory reports were heard by the assembly and especially the three-month budget report was encouraging. Only one guest, Mr. Patterson, was present. Severoal announcements were made as follows: Important, the next lodge meeting will be postponed one week later for June (Mondby the 16th,'1980) on account of the SPJST Convention, which will be in session on our regular monthly meeting night. Remember one week later Monday, June 16th at 7:30 p.m. Also, the social night games will be closed on Thursday, June 12th and will resume the following week June 19th. This is also for the same reason, because the Social Night Committee workers are all delegates to the convention.

Marceil Malak, chairman of the Hlahol Drainatic Club, announced that two plays will be staged this year: The English play, "Hot Water" September 14th, and the Czcch play "Podafene ,Panstvo" November 9th. I will give you more information as we go along.

Willie Wehring of the Blue Room Committee announced the annual Blue Room Party will be held Sunday, July 20th with cocktails, dinner, itnd dance from 4 to 9 p.m. for $10 per person.

Brother Vernon Courtney, in Memorial Northwest Hospital, underwent numerous tests for several days, which included Sunday on. Mother's Day weekend. Brother Amos Kadlecek is home from the hospital, but is on a strict diet: No talking, no smokihg and no drinking, but water. Amos is behaving pretty good and surely will get well soon.

Brother Ed Kadlecek gets around pretty

well; that's one person who cannot stay away from the lodge, he gets there one way or another. Ed is concerned with everything concerning the lodge; more power to you, Ed! Brother Clarence Lee Mills, husband of Sister Alma Mills, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 1980 and was laid to rest in the Brookside Memorial Cemetery. Clarence was retired from Shell Oil Co. after 20 years of service.

Most of his co-workers called him "Pappy". Clarence is survived by his wife, Alma Mills of Houston; daughter, Barbara Johnson of Porter, Tx.; and one son, Gerald Mills of Stephenson. Ark. We extend our sincere sympathy.

Dear Members: Our meeting, yesterday, was called to order by our president, Brother Jerry Milan.

Theinembers stood for a moment of silence for our departed Brother Joe C. Kamas.

All reports were approved as read.

Anew member accepted was Alvin Guy Hayes, Sr. Brother Milan reported his resignation as the By-Laws Chairman with regret and Brother John Murphy will be the new chairman and Brother Milan knows he will do a fine job: He also reminded us of the lodges' get-together at Lodge No. 180 in Burleson.

The youth club members are planning for the youth camp.

Congratulations go to Brother J.C. and Sister Anna Mason on the arrival of their first, a daughter, Stefanie Ann, on May 8th. The proud grandparents are Sistet Jeanie Mason and Bill and Katina Buster: to Brother Donald Steinman, Jr, on making the Million Dollar Membet for Toyota. He received a beautiful ring and plaque. Keep up the good work!

We want to wish a speedy recovery to Brother Bill Schwabaski of Berwyn,

11 Illinois who underwent emergency surgery Saturday. We were also sorry to hear Brother Frank Tesar had to return to the hospital and hope he gets better soon.

Brother Rome Milan ana three of his Sokol friends from New York wil! depart for a 3-month trip to Europe nexi week.

He will visit his relatives in Germany, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. Father Jerry and Sister Henrietta Milan along with their other son, Talon, will join Rome in Prague on June 26th for the "Cechoslovenska Spartakiada". We wish them a safe journey.

We have received a new shipment of the District III Youth Cookbooks; anyone interested may contact Sister Rose Steinman, 624-1760.

Brother Joe and Sister Rose Biciste from Berwyn, Illinois paid us a visit and Rose bought five books to take to her friends. They make real nice gifts.

Before the meeting adjourned, "Happy Birthday" was sung to Sisters Mary Renfro and Anna Johnson. We wish you many more!

LODGE NO. 42, HOUSTON Dear Members: Friday, May 2nd at 8:08 p.m., President Henry Linhart called our monthly meeting to order.

The pledge of allegiance to our flag was recited by forty-one members present.

All of us remained standing for a few moments of silent tribute for our departed members, Sister Justina Ungrad and Brother Ladik Ermis.

Roll call of officers and officers' reports were given.

Our fine youth leader had a separate, registration table for all the mothers in observance of the upcoming Mother's Day. The mother's door prize of a beautiful white mum plant went to Amalia Linhart. We were happy for her to be the lucky winner. , Our attendance prize for $50, again went unclaimed. Sorry that Margaretta Gryder was absent. Let's all come out to our next meeting which is scheduled for June 1st, the first Sunday of June. You may be a winner!

Dear Members, It won't be long before we will be meeting for our XXIII Convention. I am sure Lodge No. 133, San Antonio has been working hard ,with the Supreme Lodge officers toward a great convention.

I know the By-Law and Finance Committees have also worked hard. The Finance Committee's recommendations for officers' salaries are good; it is time that we give our officers salaries that would be in line with other salaries.

I was glad to hear that Brother Sid Pokladnik will run for chairman of the codvention. He has made us a great chairman for several conventions and is known fof his courteous and fair treatment of all.

At our last delegate meeting Brother Jerry Prochazka of Lodge No. 65 announced that he will run for vice chairman, and that was good news to many of us. Brother Prochazka has worked hard for the SPJST for many years. For several years he served as president of District V and always proved to 'be a very capable chairman, treating fairly the members of all the lodges.

With the leadership and guidance of Brothers Pokladnik and Prochazka our convention is sure to be greater than ever!

SPJSi SOFTBALL TEAM. LODGE NO 84, DALLAS Dear Brothers and Sisters: Our regular league game scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th against Charlie's Team was rained out. This game will be played as a makeup game at the end of the season.

We entered the Fort Worth "Cowtown" Tournament the weekend of May 10th and 11th. Our first game was played Saturday, May 10th at 1 p.m.; actually, we were scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., the game before ours went 14 innings, and our opponent was McGregor Produce from Wichita Falls. We lost by a score of 4 to 2. Lionel Schulz was the losing pitcher allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, 7 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Offensively, we had only 3 hits and we needed more to win. Dan Palm had a homerun, Jerry Zabojnik had a single and a walk, Kerry Goad had a single and Randy Christian had a sacrifice and a walk. I will say, in defense of our hitters, we were batting against a strong wind which did hamper our hitting to degree.

By losing, we dropped down into the losers' bracket and had to play immediately following the first game.

Our second game commenced at 2:30 p.m. against Tarrant Glass of Fort Worth and we won this game by a score of 6 to 4. Tommy Yates was the winning pitcher allowing 4 runs, 5 hits, 7 walks and 1 strikeout in six and, two-thirds innings and Lionel Schulz earned the game by putting out the fire pitching one-third of an inning, walking one batter and striking out the last batter.

Leading hitters were Danny Yates with a double, a single and a sacrifice fly, Kerry Goad with 2 singles, Dan Palm with a single, Don Jarma with a single and 2 walks, Mark Hammond with a double, Jerry Zabojnik with a walk, Ken Stubs with a single, and Paul Bartos with a single.

We remained in the tournament with a 5:30 p.m. game scheduled. We had a hurried picnic lunch of sandwiches, potato salad, chips, cookies and drinks.

Needless to say, we were hungry as well as tired. Then we had to wait an, additional hour for our next game with our opponent UBC from Fort Worth. We had a close game, finally losing it in the bottom of the 7th inning by a score of S to 3. We managed to get our first hit id the 6th inning scoring 3 runs to tie the game, but we failed in the next inning to tie or win the game. We just didn't get enough hits: Mark Hammond had a single and Jerry Zabojnik, the other hit, a single plus a walk, Dan Palm got on base via a walk, Kerry Goad also had a walk, Albin Vrana, a walk and Tommy Yates, a walk. Lionel Schulz was the losing pitcher allowing 5 runs, 3 were unearned, -hits, no walks and 2 strikeouts; had we played better afield and also at bat, we could and should have won the game. We were thus eliminated from the tournament and journeyed back home to Dallas.

Mrs. Kim R. Janke Anderson of Georgetown sang "You Light Up My Life", "Twelfth of Never", and "The Lord's Prayer". Two instrumental songs, "Intermezzo" and "Saint d' Amour" were played by Sheryl Goodnight of Academy on flute, by Charlotte Reed of Temple on violin, and accompanied by Dr. Peterson on the organ.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a traditional gown of chiffon and Venise lace made along empire lines. The bodice, which featured a scoop neckline, had a cape effect collar and sleeves which were lavishly ornamented with lace. The skirt and train was finished with lace at the

hemline. Her fingertip veil was attached to a headpiece of lace and seedpearls.

The bride wore a string of pearls belonging to her mother. She carried a spring bouquet of pastel silk flowers.

Maid of Honor was Danna Kurtin, sister of the bride of Granger.

Bridesmaids were Brenda Doskocil, sister of the groom of Bartlett, Rosanne Naizer of Granger, Monica Cervenka of Granger, Sharon Janke of Bartlett, Anne Hajda of Granger, Leanne Janke, sister of the groom of Snook, and Connie Wolf of Holland. They wore long quiana dresses of alternating pastel colors of pink, blue, green and yellow. They carried a single matching pastel

carnation adorned with baby's breath, greenery, and ribbon. Flower girl was Katy Driskill of San Antonio. She wore a short white dress flocked with pastel flowers. She carried a white straw basket filled with rose petals which was decorated with pastel ribbons and lily-of-the-valley.

Best man was Ronnie Wolf of Holland.

Groomsmen were Duane Kurtin, brother of the bride of Granger, Dennis Marek of Bartlett, Curtis Wayne Wolf of Holland, Mike Tobolka of Dallas, Scott Janke of Bartlett, Christopher Kurtin and Nathan Kurtin, brothers of the bride, both of Granger. The groom wore a white long-tailed tuxedo with a white rose boutonniere. Groomsmen wore black tuxedos with pastel shirts and pastel carnation boutonnieres. Serving as ushers were Neal Janke of Hutto, Jon Naizer of Austin, Tommy Zett of Taylor, and Doyle Doskocil of Bartlett.

The wedding reception was held at the Holland SPJST Hall. A dance with music provided by Gilbert Kautz and his Orchestra followed.

Members of the houseparty were Theresa Barrington of Weir, Marla Prcin of Cameron, Deborah Vrana of La Grange, Carol Wolf of Temple, Marie Wolf of Holland, Lori Naizer of Georgetown, Amy Janke of Bartlett, Debra Strmiska, Tina Tidwell, Linda Pekar, and Jacqueline Gaida, all of Granger.

The bride is a graduate of Granger High School. She is also a magna cum laude graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. She was a member of Alpha Chi and the Symphonic Band, and was a piano teacher in the Preparatory Department of the School of Fine Arts.

The groom is a graduate of Bartlett High School and Texas State Technical Institute in Waco. He is engaged in farming in the Snook area.

After a wedding trip to Colorado, the couple will reside in Snook.

A rehearsal dinner was given Friday night at River Forest in Belton by the groom's parents.

Mrs. Janke is a member of Lodge 20 in Granger.

Mother of the bride wore a long light blue sleeveless gown of jersey knit. A chiffon cape smocked with jewels was worn over the dress. Mother of the groom wore a long pink jersey gown with long sleeves sheered at the wrist. The open neck had a small standup collar.

Parents of the couple were hosts for our reception, dinner and dance at the Granger Recreation Center in Granger..

The music was provided by Jodie Jay and the Silvertones. The wedding march was led by Mr. and Mrs. Frankie Hyzak of Austin.

The bride, a graduate of Granger High School, is employed at the Home Office of the SPJST Fraternal Society in Temple as a secretary in the accounting department.

The groom, a graduate of Cameron High School, is self-employed in the agricultural trucking business.

After a wedding trip to Arkansas, the couple will live in Buckholts.

Debbie is a member of Lodge No. 47, Seaton.

Saint's Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger was the setting for the double ring ceremony uniting Debbie Ann Hyzak and Tony Joe Dohnalik, Saturday, May 17th. Rev. George Tydlacka of Granger performed the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Hyzak of Granger. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dohnalik, Sr. of Cameron.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a candlelight original design bridal gown of imported silk chiffon with a high neckline collar of French lace and English net yolk accented with lace and jewels. The long sheer sleeves were cuffed in lace. The circular skirt swept into a

full train wth a watteau back. A silk illusion veil appliqued with lace and edged in silk Venice trim was held by a tiny head piece.

Mrs. Judy Vaculin, sister of the bride, of Buckholts was matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were: Mrs. Linda Dohnalik of Cameron; Mrs. Mary Zavodny, sister of the groom, of Buckholts; Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, cousin of the bride, of Taylor and Mrs. Ruth Cox of Belton.

They wore maise silesta chiffon gowns in a floral print pattern. The gowns had blouson bodices with scoop necklines and butterfly sleeves. The skirts were circular cut.

GARLAND ARTIST AIMS FOR KERRVILLE FAIR The Texas State Arts and Crafts Fair, to be 1191d May 24-26 in 'Kerrville, annually features the work of more than 200 carefully juried artists. Barbara DoCekal was selected for the official Texas event, affectionately known as "State" among the artists and craftspersons. The sponsoring Texas Arts and Crafts Foundation received almost 800 applications for the fair. Mrs. Doeekal was one of the winners from the East Texas Regional Fair in Rusk in October. She paints one-of-a-kind wood rounds. The wood rounds are slices of sweetgum trees from their property in

Barbara Docekal Palentine. Her husband, Bill, designed and built a dry kiln where each piece is carefully dried before being sanded and painted. Her subjects range from animal characters to Texas scenes and flowers.

She has been painting wood rounds for eight years and is president of Texas Area Artists in Dallas.

A country fair atmosphere brightens the 16.acre showcase of Texas talent planned in Kerrville. Two stages on the fairgrounds offer 10 musical concerts daily on Saturday and Sunday, Tree to fair ticket-holders and feature professional entertainers.

Dear Readers, Our May 7th meeting was well attended. The crafts were very good, especially the drawings of our mothers.

We gave our honorary grandmother an egg wire basket as a Mother's Day gift.

We mailed homemade Mother's Day cards to the elderly of our community.

The craft Miss Ann had for us after the meeting was neat.

It was so nice to see so many at our District I meeting and 'Miss SPJST'' contest. Patti, we wish you all the luck at the convention.
