Sunday, March 9th your editor and older son, Terry, attended the District V Spring meeting at Lodge No. 88, Houston. The meeting was well-conducted by District V President Norval Crossman and moved along smoothly with a rather-precision like pace; after a brief convened session in the a.m., it adjourned for the noon meal (which was very tasty, as usual) and the Lodge No. 88 Czech Concert Orchestra provided very appropriate and easy-to-listen-to music during the one and one-half hour interlude. The members of the group are to be appreciated and congratulated for their devotion and time.

The afternoon session was, of course, the main part of the day and much was accomplished. The attendance was very large and a good representation from all of the District V area was good. Brother Louis Hanus and the officers of District V are to be congratulated for their efforts; the attendance proved that the efforts were not in vain. We are publishing some of the pictures in this issue as space permits. District V Secretary Pearl Hanka will have the details in her minutes.

All in all, it was a nice, enjoyable day spent among many friends of many years. You can tell, by the atmosphere that prevailed, that the convention was drawing near!

Please be reminded that the reports of the Supreme Lodge (officers and directors), and all standing committees, (Insurance Committee, Publication Committee, By-law Committee, and Finance Committee) appear in the Vestnik two months prior to the convention. This would be the Vestnik issue of April 9, 1980, per Articles 3(d),

Wednesday, March 19, 1980 37(t), and 48(a). This means that the reports must be mailed to reach the editor no later than Tuesday, April 1st.

The date of April 1st is satisfactory HOWEVER, if we can have any reports a little before that we would appreciate that also so that we do not get everything at one time or on one day; we will be holding most of the space in that issue for these reports. Please govern yourselves accordingly, and consider the occasional uncertainties of the mails.

FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE SFMs Smith and McBride held classes simultaneously in District I. February 25th, SFM McBride instructed at Warrenton while SFM Smith conducted classes at Lodge No. 39, Bryan. February 26th classes were held at Centerville and Bleiberville and, on the 27th, SFM McBride conducted a seminar at Caldwell. District I Director Kubena and DSR I Ben Trcalek attended a majority of the sessions. Those in attendance found the classes informative and productive.

REPORTS DISTRICT II. SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT In February we sold 66 members for $349,000 in insurance sales for a two-month total of 150 members for $966,000 in insurance sales.

Dear Fellow Workers: The "Meet You at the Alamo" contest is into its last month. Once again I'll remind you that this contest is based on annualized premium according to applications dated January 1 through March 31, 1980 and issued by April 30, 1980.

The annualized premium figures will vary slightly from the figures that appear in the reports to follow due to "carry-over" business which was not issued in 1979.

I encourage all Sales Representatives to put forth a maximum effort to win this contest. Our Society's growth is governed by your production.

DISTRICT II LODGE NO. 24, CYCLONE Dear Members: After the meeting was called to order, the flag was presented by Alan Haisler; he then led us in the pledge of allegiance.

Afterwards we stood in silence for the deceased members.

Those mentioned on the sick list were Holly Morgan, Johnny Martinec, F.J. Bedrich and Louis Schiller. Our wish for them is a speedy recovery.

Attending the appreciation dinner at the Wayne Shirley's Restaurant, given to Bell County Livestock Show donors, were Vice President Dan Sebek and his wife, Pat. They reported to us that the meal was good and that the program was impressive and enjoyable and they were glad they could represent our lodge.

Our lodge takes pride in our youth and their accomplishments and I am proud to reporfthat Rodney Marek showed his chickens in the Houston Livestock Show and placed high enough that he got a chance to sell them at a good price.

Malcik received second on his hog, he also got a chance to sell it for a good price. Michael is the son of one of our members, Edwin Malcik. To them and, any other members of our lodge who may have won, we salute you.

We want to thank Sister Regina Zabcik and her faithful assistant, her husband, Brother Ben, for another job well done on organizing the sponsored dance we had recently. It was enjoyed by all who attended.

Since our chili supper was cancelled due to a conflict, we again set a date and it will be held Friday, March 28th at 6 p.m.

We will have an Easter egg hunt first and afterwards, we will eat. Ladies, please bring sweets. Children, bring your baskets and games to play later. The adults can bring games also or just socialize.

The youth club planned their social Tuesday, March 18th. They will be going to a movie and, afterwards, they will have a surprise. The youth leader will contact everyone about the time. The youth members will be attending the District II spring meeting in Round Rock.

Visitors were Brother Edwin Adamek and his wife, Sister Kathryn from Lodge No. 29, Taylor. Brother 7dwin is the president of that lodge. He spoke to us inviting us to the District II meeting in Round Rock March 16th, And he let us know that he is running for District II director. We thank them fur coming to our meeting. They are lovely people and it was a pleasure to talk to them and we welcome them to our meeting, anytime.

Brother Eugene Haisler again came to our aid and installed an electric heater in our ticket booth. We thank him for doing this job.

We have quite a few 50-year members and we plan to honor them in the near future. They are Sisters Bessie Chudej, Lillie Cook, Bertha Haisler, GardiniP Schiller, Sydonie Skrabanek, v:oia Tyroch, Rosie Vasek and Juanita Wychopen, and Brothers Wm. Chudej and L.B. Haisler. We w i ii be notifying all of you after the plan , are complete and hope all of you can attend.

Happy birthday to all having birthdays in March. Those present were Sister Helen Spanhel and Darrel Murrow.

Those having anniversaries were Brother Ben and Sister Regina Zabcik and Joe and Bernice Sebek. Congratulations to everyone who may be having anniversaries.

There were numerous activities taking place in various parts of the state in the SPJST, in addition, to our first quarterly meeting of 1980 in West and every Lodge 54 officer was present After President Ernest Zahirniak called Secretary Maxine Sefcik to lead the pledge of allegiance to the United States flag, the procedure entailed reading the minutes from the December 1979 meeting; the minutes were adopted as read and correspondence was acknowledged.

Financial Secretary and Treasurer Bob Wright presented a favorable itemized report on the insurance and hall accounts.

Youth Leader Mona Zahirniak then gave the highlights on the past three months' youth club activities.

President Zahirniak announced our 50-year SPJST member, Brother Ed Mikeska of Abbott, had open-heart surgery recently; however, he is recuperating nicely at his home. A get-well card was sent to him from the lodge wishing him a speedy recovery.

Brother Zahirniak also mentioned Mrs. Lillian Kozelski donated $50 to our lodge. Her father, the late Mr. J. Urbanovsky, was among the lodge presidents honored during our lodge's 75th Anniversary in December, and the lodge appreciates her monetary donation. He further reported eleven new roasters were purchased for the kitchen, and the additional labor on wiring and filters was done.

Members purchasing additional insurance were A.C. Haberl, Margaret Haberl, Stephen Wright and James Zahirniak. A conversion policy was issued to George J. Holecek. Adolph Muska transferred his membership to our lodge from Cottonwood Lodge No. 6.

John Mynar made a motion to accept these members into our lodge; Mona Zahirniak seconded it. Motion carried.

Transferring to Lodge No. 66 from Lodge No. 54 included Teresa R. Orr, Ernest John Kasik and Patricia L. Dujka.

Vice President Ted Kocian announced the books were audited in January, 1979, and the next audit will take place in June. Mona Zahirniak, a member on the Audit Committee, reported the books were in order. In addition, the members approved to have the youth leader's book audited once a year, instead of every three months.

Brother Zahirniak then announced the sales representatives' class to be held at our lodge March 17th, from 7 to 9 p.m. Bonnie Pavlas was recommended as a sales representative; a motion

by Mona Zahirniak and a second by Edwin Volcik to accept Bonnie as sales representative of Lodge 54, was passed and carried. The chairman invited all the sales representatives to attend the class and also asked for their efforts to secure enough members for an additional delegate to the convention.

He read a letter from Sister Beanie Kacir who could not be present at die meeting; and if an additional delegate should be allowed from our lodge, she would be able to fulfill this obligation.

Maxine Sefcik then read a letter from Vice President Ted Kocian, who regrettably will be unable to attend the convention in San Antonio due to his employment. (He, inturn, pointed out his reason and wished all a good time.)

By-laws, the first substitute delegate automatically fills the first vacancy on behalf of the lodge to the convention.

Sister Sefcik advised the members that the delegates, substitute delegates and other interested parties should attempt to meet some time soon to review the by-laws and discuss proposals. In response, President Zahirniak said he would call a meeting for this purpose.

The door prize recipient was Edwin Volcik.

June 1st at 3 p.m. was the date and time announced for the next quarterly meeting. Following adjournment an enjoyable time was held.

Sunday, March 9th, John and I attended the District V spring meeting at Lodge No. 88 in Houston. We arrived about 10:30 a.m. and everyone was busy with last minute details. All the tables had white table cloths and all the nice new red chairs were very neatly placed in the center of the hall. It all looked very nice, and two or three rows of chairs facing the audience, were for the ones who would receive plaques and their wives or husbands.

The meeting was called to order by District V President Norval Crossman, and what a good job he did throughout the day!

Dennis Veselka of Lodge No. 142 presented the colors and led the members in the pledge of allegiance.

All the past lodge presidents and wives and all the past and present District V presidents and wives, took their places in front of us.

Lodge No. 88 president, Sister Mildred Holeman, welcomed everyone.

We then proceded to a very good lunch plus lots of good cakes. The music

by Lodge No. 88 Concert Orchestra entertained us all while we ate lunch. It was enjoyed by everyone. We then reconvened at 1 p.m. to hear and enjoy the beautiful voice of Helen Hegwood singing the United States and Czech National Anthems.

President Mildred Holeman delivered a beautiful memorial to the deceased members. It was very touching. She is, indeed, a very gracious lady.

Brother Louis Hanus was so proud to give all the past and present lodge presidents and District V presidents their plaques for all their good hard work they have done. Our darling,

Brother Alvin Sefcik of Lodge No. 173 and District V 1st vice president introduced the guests: SL President Nick A. Morris and his wife. (It was so good to see him and his lovely wife, Dorothy). The last time John and I saw them was at that spectacular opening at Round Rock.

Secretary Pearl Hanka read the numbers of our District V lodges.

Fifteen lodges were represented out of 18 lodges; that was great!

Presentation of the District V delegates and reading of the minutes was disposed of because so many plaques were given and it took quite some time.

Brother Crossman read a letter from Mark Wahlberg, who is away at college, saying that he just couldn't be active in the lodge at this time. He is missed by everyone. Dennis Vesclka will take Ills place.

The Auditing Committee and the Balloting Committee were appointed. `Miss SPJST' contestant, Margie Barcak made another speech which was very well delivered.

District V Treasurer Tommie Lostak gave his report; he is one person who can report no money and laugh about it.

Sister Evelyn Mikeska, District V sales representative, gave her report.

She and President Morris did thank all our sales persons for the good hard work they do; this is what makes this organization.

Brother Herbert Nowotny gave his report on the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Needville; he said the home was full and all the patients were happy.

At this time of the meeting, the auditors reported that the books were found in order.

No site selection was made for our next District V meeting.

D-DAY FOR CONVENTION BROCHURE EXTENDED The committee on the Convention Brochure held a meeting last week and voted to EXTEND the dead-line for the submitting of ads until March 25th. The main reason for giving this extension was that many of the SPJST Lodges, are having (heir monthly meetings the next two weekends and they indicated that they needed just a little more time. Since the committee is ahead of schedule with the brochure project they thought it would only be right to give everyone more time, but the date March 25th IS the FINAL Date. After that we will not be able to take any more ads, so please, to the lodges that have not responded, now is your Chance to be among the majority in the beautiful brochure that you may treasurer for a long time.

Remember your loved ones, who are not with us anymore; remember them by taking a Memorial Ad in their behalf; what more beautiful thing can a person do than have them remembered in our XXIII SPJST Convention?

LODGE NO. 154, FORT WORTH Dear Members and Friends: Our meeting Sunday was held at Sister Maria Prill's home preceding her 70th birthday party.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal, and we all hope Sister Prill has many more birthdays. Then we had to depart and get to the hall for a big cleanup.

Later that evening the sixteen who flew to Baltimore arrived home safely. The youngsters were full of excitement. They all really enjoyed the sights they got to see and we congratulate them on coming home with the first place trophy.

We want to wish a speedy recovery to Brother Jack Hattendorf, who was hospitalized for several weeks and to Sister Angie Polasek, who had eye surgery and is now recuperating in the home of Sister Bessie Prochaska at 2912 N. W. 25th Street, and would love for you to stop by.

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family of Bro. Virgil Plemmons who passed away Saturday, March 1st, and to the family of Brother Joe Koci of Lodge No. 92. He was a longtime friend to many of us.

LODGE NO. 92, FORT WORTH Dear Members and Friends; If you've been feeling low lately try watching a kite or two, so numerous now, bobbing up and down and yet rising higher and higher into the clear blue sky.

These same kites and their fliers were the bright spot of our March meeting when the youth club returned near adjournment time and told of their triumphs and failures. We were happy also to have Bro. Ed Kamas, District III youth counselor,present to give our own leaders a few tips on club direction. A sad note, on the other hand, was the mention of the death of Joe Koci, longtime member and financial secretary for several years in the past.

Sunshine Committee Secretary Martha Durham reported sending get-well cards to Gladys Reid, Al Svacek, Joe Baleja, Lorraine Tatarevitch and Frances Jaworski.

Two meeting day changes were made for the months of May and June; because of Mother's Day, our May meeting will be held the first Sunday of May and due to the SPJST State Convention in San Antonio, our June meeting will also be held the first Sunday of the month.

A later discussion in the meeting resulted in the choosing of Esta Belle Hubenak as an additional youth leader and the meeting was adjourned soon afterwards.

We have several memorial gifts to mention, all in tribute to Joe Koci: $10 from Mrs. Tony Tatarevitch, $5 from Minnie and Robert Ruzicka, and $5 from Mike and Helen Paprskar.

Here's hoping we see you, and you, and you at the April meeting Sunday, the ,13th.

NO. 74, LOVELADY

Dear Members and Guests: We had Silvertones providing music for our dancing fans; the attendance was good and everybody present had a good time. I had a flu bug that got ahold of me so I did not stay long attending the dance, but, by being at the front, I, again, noticed we had guests come who had never been at our lodge before and that is good. We appreciate all you members who invite others to enjoy our lodge.

We had our regular monthly meeting March 11th; the attendance was small, but the meeting proceeded orderly, and everybody is happy to see the officers working together in harmony.

We have the Rules and Regulations of the lodge, so all of you members, who want them, ask for them; I already have them. Ralph Smith or any of the officers will see to it that you get them.

New members voted into the lodge are: Obie Rallen of Grapeland, Robert Dalton Boyd of Lovelady, Georgia and LeRoy Chitwood of Huntsville, Mack Allen Currie, Gene Marks Gilson and Willie H. NO. 49, ROWENA

Rowena Lodge No. 49 is going to have a Community Flea Market March 22nd in the SPJST Hall, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This will be inside of the building because they are going to sell items in the booths. They are not charging any commission.

They will also have a bake sale, so they are asking for baked goods, anything that will sell from kolache to buchtas.

We will have coffee and cold drinks to go with sandwiches all during the day, so everyone is invited to come, either to buy or sell.

March 28th, is our game night again.

We will meet at 7 p.m. and have refreshments as we have been having; these are turning out nicely, we have new faces each time and everyone seems to enjoy the games.

This should do for the month of March, hoping to see all of you in Rowena.

The president reminded the members to bring up some forms of entertainment for the above occasion. In other words if some of you members have some suggestions how to make some money at the picnic, bring it up at our April meeting, which will be held Monday, April 7th at 7 p.m. We made this change due to the first Sunday being Easter Sunday.

The trustees will meet Monday, March 31st at 7:30 p.m.

We had the pleasure of having, with us, our District II director, Brother Henry Vitek, who gave a brief report of the standing of our SPJST organization and of District II. It was nice to have you with us, Brother Henry.

After the meeting Sister Adelle Horelica took pictures of the newly-elected officers of Lodge No. 80 for 1980 and also of the two entrances to the hall which we hope to have in the Vestnik in the near future.

The lucky winner for the door prizes were Tillie Barabas, Vergie Burt and Eddie Kunz.

The meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m.

The members were asked to remain standing for a few moments in memory of two of our faithful members, who passed away since our February meeting. They were: Adolph Jarolik and Joe C. Pavlat. Eternal rest grant them.

The regular meeting will be held Sunday, March 23rd at 2:30 p.m. The youth will meet at 2 p.m. There will be an Easter egg hunt for all the youth of the lodge.

LODGE NO. 47, SEATON CHORAL CLUB Dear Readers, A good number of members came out for our third rehearsal of this relatively new year, 1980. Annie Jakubec, musical director, accompanied our club on piano in the absence of Henry Janacek. He is our regular accordion accompanist. He has been unable to attend due to his recent oral surgery and, also importantly, his accordion is being repaired in Houston. All of us hope for his returned good health and presence at our rehearsals. Many of the usual and lovely songs were sung. Our spirits Are lifted; we feel renewed. There were several opinions expressed, too, that we need to learn some new songs which are already in our books, and to "polish up" a few of the old ones. No matter how bright and sunny a room is, it can always use a little fresh air. "Mame dobrcr sbor; Chime se polep'ยงit."

This is an invitation to all of you "registered" members who have not been with us recently to join us at our next rehearsal at all of our rehearsals. You will add a great deal with your participation.

At the business meeting afterward, Annie Jakubec welcomed the new officers; the out-going officers were acknowledged for their help to our club.

They have served us well during the past several years. We hope they take these times now to relax and sing.

Old business was discussed: a picture in our choral costumes will be taken after the best arrangements are made at our next rehearsal meeting; our club will sing at the fund-raising project for elderly citizens of Buckholts. We're very glad to oblige. This occasion will be held March 28, Friday, at the Buckholts High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Everyone please wear your Choral costume. Songs to be sung that evening will be rehearsed at our next regular practice March 25th; it begins at 7:30. All our voices are needed; let's make it a good turnout; singing at the three Temple rest homes is delayed only temporarily until Henry Janacek can be back with -us; plans are to be discussed for our annual spring picnic. If anyone of you wishes to host us or knows of a good place let us know.

DISTRICT VII SPRING MEETING Sunday, March 23, 1980 The 1980 spring meeting of District VII is scheduled to be held Sunday, March 23rd, at the SPJST and Sokol Corpus Christi Hall, 5502 Kostoryz Road in Corpus Christi with Lodge No. 79 as the host lodge.

DALLAS CIRCLE OF CZECH WOMEN The Dallas Circle of Czech Women met March 6 at the Sokol Athletic Center. It was a beautiful day to get together. President E. Bartos called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.

After the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. flag, Sister R. Kopecek read the history of the Circle. It was very enlightening and interesting to everyone present.

Our guests, Terisa Machalica, granddaughter of Sister L. Slovak, and Pat McGlothlin, niece of Sister T. Carper, were welcomed and introduced.

Our men guests were A. Janecka and B. Zvolanek. Total present were 43.

Recording Secretary J. Kankrlik, read the minutes, which were approved as corrected. Treasurer V. Jurcik gave a good financial report.

Corresponding Secretary M. Sebestik, read a lovely letter written in Czech, from Sister L. Zdenek from Chicago, Ill. Sister Zdenek is a sister of our Treasurer V. Jurcik. A note from Sister M. Noska was read; she related greetings from Sister A. Lesikar of Taylor. A "Thank-You" note was read from the family of Sister 0. Krutilek for the donation to the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Taylor; also, a "Thank-You" note from the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Taylor, for the donation received.

Financial membership secretary R. Kopecek, announced that she still has

membership and by-law books for sale; any members desiring one, please contact her. In the absence of Sister M. Noska, Sister A. Zvolanek gave the following report for her: 5 "thank you" cards, 9 get-well and one sympathy card sent during February. The report from the Nominating Committee was presented. The officers elected for the next two years are as follows: President - Anne Zvolanek, Vice-President Bessie Reames, Recording Secretary Josie Khnkrlik, Corresponding Secretary - Liddie Pavelka, Treasurer - Adell Vlk, Financial-Membership Secretary Mary Sykora. Congratulations to each of you and we know that you will enjoy working together for the Circle. A hearty "thank-you" goes to all the out-going officers for a job well done for the past two years.

It was good to see Sisters R. Parma, S. Kutlik, M. Dusek, M. Voss, M. Petrik, A. Janecka, M. Bartek, L. Drzewicki, F. Pokladnik and F. Curry back with us. We missed seeing several familiar faces and hope they will be back next month.

On the sick list are Sister M. Toberny, who is in Methodist Hospital. Sister M. Fitz visits her regularly and brought a message from her to the Circle: a big "hello". We do miss her. George Skotak, Zdenka's husband, is doing real well. Sister Skotak told us that he misses us. We miss him too. Miro Jurcik, Sister Vlasta's husband, has been hospitalized and has returned home to recuperate. Bill King, husband of Sister A. King, has been hospitalized and is home recuperating. E. Voss, husband of Sister M. Voss, is still ill. On behalf of the Circle, each of you is wished a speedy recovery. Sister F. Konakovsky of Taylor, sent her regards through Sister R. Kopecek. Thanks to Sister Liddie and Jim Pavelka, who on behalf of the Circle, took a pot plant to Sister M. Tullis, who is in a nursing home in Seagoville.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Sisters M. Sebestik, T. Carper, A. Vlk, M. Sykora, A. Ozymy, B. Paryzkova and M. Tullis.

Barbara Dybala, representing the CCC Historical Society, announced that the deadline for sending in recipes for the cookbook is April 1. Price of the cookbook is $5.95, if paid for by May 10; after that date, the price will be $7.95.

Betty Slovacek, representing Sokol, announced that an arts and crafts bazaar is being planned for Fall. Any donations will be appreciated. Save your old pantyhose and bring them to the meetings; they will be used for stuffing toys, etc. She thanked everyone for helping with donations for last year's bazaar.

Congratulations to the following sisters who received a 50-year pin from SPJST Lodge No. 130: Mary Stransky, Vallie Tupy and Lydia Kartous. Those who received a pin from Sokol are as follows: Sister Helen Parma - 25 year, Sister Ella Bartos, Sister Dorothy and George Reznik - 10 year. Sister Emma Pavelka was recognized as a charter member of SPJST Lodge No. 130.

Congratulations also to Sister Millie and Frank Noska on the arrival of a grandson, the proud parents are Johnny and Linda Noska. Sister Anna Noska is the happy great-grandmother. Tom and I also became grandparents of a 7 lb. 11 oz. precious little boy. The proud parents are John and Ginger Roberts.

Sheila is big sister.

Sister E. Fojt spent two weeks with her brothers and sisters in Temple; she also visited her daughter, Helen Reavis in Killeen, Tx. Donations were received for luncheon guests from Sister T. Carper and L. Slovak. Barbara Dybala and Sister M. Voss gave a donation to the Circle.

Others donating were Sister M. Nesuda in memory of her nephew, Charlie Brozek, who passed away recently, and Sister F. Curry in memory of Sister Olga Krutilek.

Oops, I almost forgot to mention that Sister M. Bartek announced that a bake sale will be held March 29 at Rudolph's Meat Market. This is sponsored by SPJST Lodge No. 84.

Sister Regina and Brother Ben Zabelk ZABCIKVILLE COUPLE MARRIED 40 years Brother and Sister Ben Zabcik will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary March 25th.

Sister Zabcik is the former Regina Lichnovsky of West. They have lived in the Zabcikville Community most of their married life.

From 1961 to 1977, Brother Zabcik served as SPJST Supreme Lodge financial secretary. They are both currently active in SPJST Lodge No. 24 in Cyclone, the Senior Citizens, and the Ocker Brethren Church.

Sister Rosie Slovak of Shiner attained the grand age of 96 on January 6, 1980 and became the 45th person in the history of the SPJST to outlive the actuarial table on her life insurance policy.

Rosie Slovak was born on January 6, 1884 in Moravia, Czechoslovakia, and came to America with her parents Frank and Rosalie (Mikeska) Schovajsa, on June 4, 1894. The family settled in the community of Wesley, Texas, later moving to Nelsonville. She married Tom Slovak January 8, 1901 in Nelsonville and they moved to Shiner in 1902 where she lived for 60 years. The Slovaks engaged in farming all their lives. Tom Slovak passed away in 1950.

When Sis. Slovak was unable to live alone, she went to live with her daughter in Yoakum, Texas, and since June of 1979, she has been a resident of the Trinity Lutheran Home in Shiner.

Sister Slovak has one son, Frank, of Brenham, and one daughter, Olga Sauer, Yoakum; two grandsons, one granddaughter, six great-grandchil-

The couple has two children, Barbara Docekal of Garland, and Betty Jean Hall of Lake Jackson, and four grandchildren.

As a highlight of their anniversary year, they will be taking a trip to Czechoslovakia.

Dear Members and Friends, Due to the absence of our President Patti Tydlacka, Vice-President Rusty Bay, called the meeting to order. Our secretary read the minutes from the last meeting and the treasurer gave her report; both were approved as read.

We discussed what time we would leave to go skating at Silver Wings, Brenham. We will leave Dime Box at 1:00 p.m. There was no further business to discuss so the meeting was adjourned.

After the meeting Father Isidore showed us the movie: "Salty". It was about a seal. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. We would like to thank Father Isidore for taking his time to show it to us.

Dear Vestnik Readers, The Taiton SPJST Youth Club met March 2nd at 2:30 p.m. at the Taiton Community Center.

The pledge was led by Jennifer Dluhos, and the prayer by Yvonne Krpec.

St. Patrick's Day poems were read by Jean Dorotik, Michelle Srubar, Vicki Dorotik and Karen Kahanek.

Birthdays in March are for Vicki Doritik, Robert Krpec and Chris Krpec. Happy birthday to all of you!

For craft this month we made Easter baskets and Easter cards. This will be given to the nursing home for the aged at Eastertime. We will also have a work day April 1st.

Our money-making project will be selling tickets on different items; the prizes will be given away at the District

VI spring meeting in April which will be held in Ganado.

LODGE NO. 177, ACADEMY

Dear Members, President Johnny Ray Hicks called our meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. on February 13th.

James Cox led the youth members in the pledge of allegiance.

We had nine members present.

We had no old or new business. Our Valentine game night was discussed and a good amount of money was raised for the youth club. A big thank you to the mother lodge, helpers and the ones who baked cakes and cookies. We do appreciate it.

James Cox, Lisa Timbo and Cheryl Meredith won the door prizes.

Our social was held Saturday, February 23rd at Action World Bowling Alley. I have no details on how many attended because I was unable to be there due to a band contest in Troy.

Our pool table was sold. A big thank you to Brother Rae Lisenbe because we can always count on you to help out our youth club.

I am a little late this month reporting on our club; but hopefully, basketball and contests at school will soon be over and I will try to do better.

Don't forget our next meeting March 12th; come and bring new and old members, maybe event a guest, you will be welcome. There is always something new and different to do. Due to our nice youth leader and her assistant, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Hawk, enjoy your next schooling and bring back some more good ideas. Also be thinking about your entries in Youth Achievement Day. Wednesday, March 19, 1980 LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Members: Lodge No. 88 hosted the District V meeting March 9th. The turnout was exceptional and a lot of work was done by all of the district officers. These officers were elected again and we look forward to some more of their good work.

Mr. Wahlberg conducted the youth meeting with an election of officers and a discussion of events coming up. EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the undersigned Resolution Committee, in behalf of the entire membership of Lodge No. 88, Houston, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed lodge brother STANLEY CMELKA, who passed away February 27, 1980, in Houston at the age of 79.

Brother Cmelka is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virgie Wanda Cmelka; daughter, Mary Lou Cmelka; daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Robert Swatloski; grandchildren, Robert, Carol and Linda Swatloski; brothers, Dr. B.J. Cmelka, Sun City, Arizona; Louis Cmelka, Houston; sister, Mrs. Rosa Jones, Midland, Texas; and .a number of nieces and nephews.

Rosary was recited at Heights Funeral Chapel. Services were held at Christ the King Catholic Church with Msgr. Bernard Roemer officiating.

Interment was in Garden of Gethsemani.

He graduated from Granger High School and attended Texas Tech. He owned g.nd operated a hatchery and

feed store in Slaton.

Survivors include his wife, Lebusha Macha Huser of Lubbock; a son, Victor Joe who is a professor in Brazil; a daughter, Gayle Marie who is a nun and administrator of a hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi; and two grandchildren.

Services were held in Slaton, Texas.

Brother Ozymy was born August 15, 1896, in Caldwell, Texas, the son of Paul and Teresa Patacek Ozymy. He was reared in Caldwell and Ennis. He entered the U.S. Army in 1917 and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

He was discharged in 1918 and became a farmer and rancher in Abbott until 1957 when he retired. He moved to Dallas in 1957 and was employed by Okowita Sheet Metal Corp. He retired

20 in 1976.

He was a member of the Moravian Church and SPJST No. 25.

He is survived by three sons, A.L. of Dallas, Charles of Irving, Dan of Texarkana; one sister, Mrs. Millie Vytopil of Ennis; two brothers, Rudolph of Ennis and Tommy of Tyler and five grandchildren.

who passed away in the Veterans Hospital, Dallas, Saturday, March 1, 1980 at the age of 72.

He was a Valley Mills native and a Fort Worth resident 27 years. He was a retired refrigeration engineer for Ben E. Keith food distributors.

He was a World War H Navy veteran who was among the first Americans in Tokyo Bay landing parties after the war ended. He served as President Roosevelt's coxswain during the Yalta peace talks and witnessed the Japanese signing of the surrender aboard the USS Missouri.

He was a member of St. George Catholic Church and Lodge No. 154 since 1939.

Survivors are two sons, Joseph Plemmons, Costa Mesa, California; Bill Plemmons of Fort Worth; two brothers, Rayburn Plemmons of Houston and Dwight Plemmons of Ocee; three sisters, Wilma Taggart of Fort Worth, Arnelle Ewing of Corpus Christi and Doris Freeman of Waco; and six grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Lucas Funeral Chapel with burial in Mount Olivet.

who passed away Friday, February 15 at approximately 8 p.m. at the home of her son. She was born September 23, 1905, in Lavaca County, Mrs. Hanslik was married October 13, 1925 in Hallettsville to Pete Hanslik, who preceded her in death August 6, 1953. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Funeral servies were held Sunday, February 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Monsignor Henry Psencik officiating. A Society rosary was held at 2 p.m. Sunday. A rosary by the parish was recited at Kubena Funeral Home Saturday night.

The body lay in state at the funeral home until 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 17 when it was moved to the church for services. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dennis Ermis of Pearland; a son, Julius P. Hanslik of Moulton; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Kunetka of Yoakum, Mrs. Annie Svetlik of Markham and Mrs. Emma Gallia of El Campo; a brother, Julius Gaidusek of Schulenburg; and 11

who passed away at 10:34 a.m., Friday, February 8, 1980, in the Lavaca Medical Center in Hallettsville at the age of 60 years. She was born April 19, 1919, in Lavaca County. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the local American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Polasek was married, December 29, 1938, in Sacred Heart Church here, to Emil J. Polasek, who passed away previously. For the past twenty-one years she served as the Lavaca County Tax Assessor-Collector.

Rosaries were recited at 8 p.m., Saturday, February 9, by the parish, at the Kubena Funeral Home Chapel and 2 p.m;, Sunday, February 10, by the Society at Sacred Heart Church. The body lay in state at the funeral home until 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 10, when it was moved to the church for Mass at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Celestino Say officiated at the last rites. Interment was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Surviving are two brothers, Richard and Alfred Jahn, both of Hallettsville.
