FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Your editor wishes to remind all of our members and, especially officers, of all of our lodges in the SPJST that our 23rd (XXIII) convention is rapidly approaching and we will, again, have a special convention issue of 64 pages and, of course, will not have a Vestnik issued the week of the convention. The reason for the above is the fact that we need you members and officers to begin compiling some material for the convention issue so that your lodge will be represented in that one special once-in-every-four-years issue which many of you generally save. Please get your members and committees started working on this; remember - time is running short and, as one radio announcer used to say: "Time is eluding me!" So it is with us in our SPJST Society. ** In the issue of our January 23rd issue of Vestnik on page 3, column 3 was a continuation of the SPJST By-Law Committee report explaining some of the reasons for the recommended changes by SL President Morris and, in this issue, is a report and further treatise on some of his reasons. Brother George Kacir, Sidney Kacir and your editor saw some of these things coming up in the 1976 convention in Waco, Tx. four years ago. We are printing an excerpt of the proceedings from pages 29 and 30 so that our delegates can and will be "on their toes" when these matters come up. Read what the delegates said, the remarks of the By-Law Committee members and how
ADVICE TO PARENTS... "IF" [Negative Influences] If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn. If he lives with hostility, he learns to fight. If he lives with ridicule, he learns to withdraw. If he lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty. [Positive forces] If a child lives with tolerance, he learns patience. If he lives with encouragement, he learns confidence. If he lives with praise, he learns to appreciate. If he lives with fairness, he learns justice. If he lives with security, he learns to have faith. If he lives with approval, he learns to like himself. If he lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love. limitation of the debate could have been easily handled at that time. The lesson here is: Be prepared and open-minded when you go to the convention.
Committee, that these duties be authorized to the By-Law Committee. Frar Olexa (88) said she opposed this motion and made a motion not to open by-laws again. Emil Matula (133) said he opposed Bro. Kacir's motion also. Alvin Sefcik (173) said he opposes Bro. Kacir's motion because this could mean we could again reopen the by-laws. John Murphy (92) asked for point of order and said there had been no second to the motion. Silas Smith (66) seconded Bro. Kacir's motion. Tillie Helmcamp (88) asked if this would open the by-laws again. F.A. Kadlecek (88) asked if this would obligate the districts to elect only one man. If this was the case, he would oppose the motion. Tillie Helmcamp (88) asked why should we deliberate again and said she also opposed the motion. Rudy Sefcik (54) asked if we were suspending the rules only for this one case and was told it was. Jeannette Eubank (88) asked if this was the case, then why can't we suspend them all. Norma Cavanaugh (20) asked if the By-Law Committee would accept the extra duties. Jerry, Milan (154) said they were not asking for it but thought they could handle it. Alvin Sefcik (173) moved that we table the motion. Tillie Helmcamp (88) seconded and Bro. Sefcik's motion passed. (Brother Alvin Sefcik's motion.)
*** Sidney Kacir (87) made a motion that the rules be suspended and wherever duties are delegated to the Finance
