FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK SL Vice-President Bernard M. Gebala called your editor in the week prior to the Lodge No. 66 meeting held Sunday, August 19th and requested we attend because he had certain awards to present to some Lodge No. 66 members. We made arrangements to do so and, of course, this was supposed to be a surprise for the members involved and it turned to be so and, during the course of the proceedings of the meeting, Brother Gebala made the presentations. Pictures of the presentations will appear later in our Vestnik. Sister Sefcik could not attend due to accumulated work and stayed at home. The wording on the awards appears below. We congratulate Brother and Sister Smith on their accomplishments. The meeting was well organized and brief and was followed by a tasty lunch and refreshments. It is refreshing to the membership and all who attend Lodge No. 66 meetings to see the interest that the members of the youth club have in the affairs of the lodge and the community. Please read Sister Annie Hanus' letter in this issue; she has details of the meeting in her report. The fraternalism and hospitality of Lodge No. 66 and its members is ever-evident. AGENCY BUILDER'S AWARD A citation was recently awarded to Silas H. Smith, F.I.C., for distinguished service in recruiting and training agents resulting in an increasing volume of quality business and over-all Agency progress. Special recognition is given for promotion of the Fraternal Insurance Counsellors' program.
TODAY... Today is ours: why do we fear? Today is ours: we have it here. Let us banish business, banish sorrow. And to Fate belongs tomorrow. *** WHEN BORROWING... Go to friends for advice; To women for pity; To strangers •for charity; To relatives for nothing. JEANETTE SMITH RECEIVES CERTIFICATE The National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counsellors awarded a certificate to Jeanette Smith, F.I.C., for quality service, having met the requirements in each of the previous two years and having given quality service to his clients resulting in ninety per cent or higher persistency. It is evident by this achievement that the above society he represents, the members he has served and his local community have had confidence in him and have been strengthened by his conscientitious service. Therefore the association is pleased to honor the above F.I.C. with this distinguished award. ***
Recently Mr. Jack McClure, the chairman of the organizational department for the Southern District of the American Sokol Organization (ASO) visited our office and laid the groundwork for organizing a Sokol gymnastic unit here in West. Your editor contacted some parties and, this last week, Mr. McClure returned and finalized plans for forming the unit here. Now it depends on the parents and people of West to show enough interest and enthusiasm to make the plans a success. He and other leaders of Sokol units will be at Westfest both days September 1st and 2nd and any interested parent or party may contact any of them. There will be a meeting arranged and advertised in the near future where the information will be given and the advantages of the physical program outlined and described and films and slides will be shown. It behooves the people in the West area, especially parents, coaches, people interested in physical culture, etc. to give full support to a program such as this and we hope the response will be very favorable. ** Westfest in West is fairly coming along and is almost upon us! We reprint the program and hope all attending have a safe, friendly and enjoyable Labor Day weekend whether it be at Westfest or elsewhere. We look forward to seeing you alive and happy!
