SL Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas, Jr. presented Brother Mikeska a pipe smoking stand with all the accessories needed for his office desk. SL President Nick A. Morris acted as master of ceremonies at the occasion and all of the SL officers and directors made complimentary and appropriate remarks. Certainly Brother Mikeska is to be complimented on his long tenure in employment at our SPJST headquarters and his ability to get along and cooperate with his fellow officers, directors and employees.

From The Editor There are so many things your editor would like to apologize for--for instance--delayed letters, pictures, etc., yet, much of this is out of our control and we cannot do anything about it, so please bear with us. *4*

On the front page are two pictures of our Supreme Lodge Secretary-Treasurer receiving tributes on his 20 years' work at our SPJST Supreme Lodge (and well-deserved ones). Ironically, some pictures of the occasion did not turn out satisfactorily.

And then we have the pictures of the District V YAD and the pictures of the winners are on a belated roll of film so they will be published later. We hope that Brother Wahlberg understands.

Sometimes it seems that an inscription we have seen seems to fit: "The hurrier I am; the behinder I get!" ** * Some weeks ago we published a picture of the only living charter member of Lodge No. 92, Ft. Worth, Brother Joseph Becan with Lodge No. 92 President, Carl Zich, however, the caption under the picture read: Brother JOHN Becan. We wish to correct the error and reprinting the picture.

WE REGRET THE ERROR, BROTHER BECAN. School days are drawing near; moms — are you happy? In these days it is a difficult question to ask —right? ** * Husbands and wives should have wills, wills are not just for rich people.

Everyone should have an organized plan to dispose of personal assets at death.

If you have accumulated many assets, you may need elaborate estate planning, but everyone should have a will. Without one, your property will be diStributed according to state laws and the distribution may conflict with your wishes.

Joint ownership of property is no substitute either. Federal estate tax law assumes that jointly held property actually belongs to the owner who dies first and should be included in his or her taxable estate. The survivor could then be forced to prove that he or she contributed to the cost of acquiring that property to avoid paying taxes on it.

Both husbands and wives should have tvi;k: contact your attorney for advice.

Sister Frances Barta of Granger attained the grand age of 96 on July 31 and thereby became the 42nd person in the history of the SPJST to outlive her acturial table on her life insurance policy with the SPJST. She is also the 3rd member of Lodge 20 to achieve this distinction.

Sister Barta was born on July 31, 1883 in Koberice, Moravia to John and Maria (Divacka) Krystin, one of nine children.

11: SISTER FRANCES BARTA On June 6, 1906 she married Frank Farmacka in Moravia where they continued to live until 1911. At that time with their two small sons they sailed to America on the ship, Hanover, landing at Galveston Island.

The family moved to Thorndale where they farmed until 1922. They then moved to Kingsville and continued in farming.

Seven children were born of this union. The daughters are as follows: Flora Cole, who resides in Granger; Rose Leroy, living in Grand Rapids, Continued on page 6

The presentation to Sister Frances Barta was also attended by Lodge No. 20 officers, L to R: Sister Norma Cavanaugh, Financial Secretary; Sister Vera Gorubec, President; Brother Henry Vitek, First Vice President [and SL Director]; and Brother Raymond Holubec, Treasurer. Sister Barta is seated.

Michigan; and Lillie Smith, still living in Thorndale. Her sons are: Louis, who resides in Oklahoma City; Antone, living in San Leon; Andrew of Pasadena; and Charlie, who resides in San Antonio. She also has a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her husband Frank died on May 20, 1935. She later married Pete Barta and moved to Gonzales, where she helped him operate his blacksmith shop. Mr. Barta passed away on December 1, 1957 after which time she moved to Granger.

Sister Barta has been blessed with good health and was able to live alone until December 16, 1971 when she was admitted to the Bluebonnet Nursing Home in Granger, where she continues to reside. Though her health is not good enough to enable her to reside alone, she is of sound mind and ambulates very well with a walker. Her vision is still good enough whereby she is able to read a newspaper and her prayer book every day.

Immediately following the presentation ceremony, a reception honoring Sister Barta was held at the Bluebonnet Nursing Center, hosted by her family.

Residents, family and friends helped her celebrate this happy occasion.

Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska and District II Director Henry Vitek made the presentation in behalf of the Supreme Lodge.

LODGE NO. 154, FORT WORTH Dear Members and Friends: Our meeting Sunday was called to order by our president, Brother Jerry Milan.

Sister Maria Prill was welcomed back from her 2-month trip to Germany.

Brother Don Steinman gave a report on the Camp Val Verde trip, which was enjoyed by all.

Brother Milan gave a report on the Folk Dance Clinic. We had quite a few members to attend.

Brother Frank Kovar gave a report on the Heritage meeting. The State Fair is creeping up on us.

The meeting adjourned to refreshments and a nice visit.

Our country-western dance Saturday was a full house, and, again, we want to extend a special thanks to you all for your help plus all the youth members for the cleanup help preceding the meeting; you youngsters have been great.

The band started playing again and everyone danced until 11 p.m.

Everything was free to the relatives and friends.

Thank you, President Linhart for inviting John and me to the party. We left at 11 p.m. but the band was going to play and practice and anyone could stay and dance if they wished. I bet Grandma Linhart was there for the practice.

I'm sorry to report that, shortly after we got home from the meeting, my husband, Brother Benny got quite ill and is in the St. Joseph's Hospital and we all wish him a speedy recovery. A special thank you to Brother Mac and Sister Lillie McMillen of Lodge 92 to rush to our rescue and get Benny to the hospital.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, September 9th, at 3 p.m.

LODGE NO. 172, PASADENA John and I were specially invited by President Henry Linhart of Lodge No. 142 Saturday, August 4th to his mother's birthday party at Lodge No. 142 in Houston. We arrived a little later than we had expected because John worked all day.

A big crowd of family and friends were there; they had a big meal of sandwiches, chips, cake and pies, beer and soft drinks. John and I had a plate of food to eat later.

The Alvin Linhart band was tuning up to start the danc.e and they started playing; the music was good and everyone had a good time dancing.

During intermission, Grandma Lin, ^rt opened her gifts and cards; all the cards had money in them and she was enjoying every bit of her birthday party; at age 85 she is very happy, young and full of life. I think she is a doll and she could look around the hall and see all of her loved ones: big ones and little ones, all of them with her enjoying life together. She has a wonderful family and her life is still full:

Financial secretary gave her report.

Jason Scott Cromperlik and Patricia Sterling White were accepted as new members on a motion by John Burleson and seconded by Billy Pavliska.

President Bayer stated that prospects for insurance sales; be referred to the sales representatives and more emphasis be placed on selling insurance.

Thanks to Anton and Mary Svoboda for obtaining past presidents' pictures of Roman Jasek and Frank BoIf. Libby Bayer also presented President Sayer with a picture of Valentin Petr. Now, we have only two empty spots on our presidential gallery, and guess who they are? Maybe one of these days we will have them all.

Libby Bayer brought some more sacks to package peanuts. If all our members were as enthusiastic as Libby, we'd have no problems for packaging materials come Peanut Festival time.

Youth Leader Polly Bayer gave a detailed report of youth club activities.

President Bayer took a small group of clubbers on a tour of the Green Valley Nursery. Annette Dzuik won first prize for selling the most bus fund tickets and second prize went to Jeff Svoboda. Craft winners were Trey Bielefeld, Annette Dzuik, Wendy Bayer, James Dzuik and Jeff Pavliska.

Wendy Bayer asked the lodge to save aluminum, brass, copper, or any metals because they can all be sold.

John Burleson, Rex Purchis and Bob Bayer attended a Fire Department meeting and confirmed the beer sales' booths for the Peanut Festival. All members are urged to help during this time because this will be a big project; the festival is set for October 13th through 14th.

District VII Director Bayer gave a very interesting report on the Supreme Lodge meeting that he attended in July.

His report showed the increase in insurance sales, the savings on postage and_printing cost of the Vestnik, and reminded everyone of the convention in 1980 and that delegates to the convention will be elected in December, 1979.

Wendy Bayer was our door prize winner and, after adjournment and payment of dues, a social hour was enjoyed by all.

We all enjoyed our babies who attended the meeting: Cy Welden , Pavliska with his parents Joseph R. and Laura Lea Pavliska, Bobby and Tern Sralla brought little Mr. Robert, Jr. out

for all of us to admire and Georgie Roemer and Jarrett brought little Mr. Chad. It was quite a baby day and we enjoyed them very much. They are our future SPJST members so they are starting young. All of you be sure and come back often.

Our next meeting will be held September 2nd at 5 p.m.

Dear Members and Friends: It just can't be far away! With all the sales promotions in the stores and the look of "what can we do now?", on the kids' faces. Of course, it has to be the proximity of the first day of the Sept. '79 school year. Most mothers have mixed emotions, a little regret and a little relief and most likely the students share the combination, so that leaves us with four more lodge meetings for '79. How many -SP1SThave you attended this year? A good LODGE NO. 84, DALLAS number was present for the August 5th gathering. Brother Robert Duron, Sr. was at our Carolina. He and four friends had a last dance featuring the Czech temporary assignment at Grand Prairie and they all stayed with his parents Harvesters, with the help of a walker.

Just about the time that Joe and Flora Koci welcomed a tiny red-haired grandson into the family, Joe was taken) to the hospital suffering a heart attack.

He was in the Cardiac Care Unit of St., Joseph's. We hope all are enjoying improved health by this time.

Following the meeting supper was served by Evelyn Spacek and Bennie Bartek and they want to thank everyonek who helped them in the kitchen.

CZECH CLASS AT MEMORIAL ADULT EVENING SCHOOL HOUSTON Conversational Czech will be taught this fall in the Adult Evening School Thursday evenings at the Memorial Senior High School, 935 Echo Lane, Houston, Tx. 77024 with the first session starting September 6th, 1979.

Registration will be held at the high school from 7 to 9 p.m. August 22nd, 23rd and 24th. Tuition per semester is $30 plus $5 registration fee.

This interesting course will include use of the text "Czech for English Speaking Students," some Czech history and a slide travelogue of Czechoslovakia.

Here is an opportunity to learn the Czech language and/or improve your proficiency in the use of the language through conversation and writing.

LODGE NO. 180, BURLESON

Our lodge meeting for the month of August 2nd got under way at 7:30 p.m.

President Dennis Barabas called the meeting to order. The pledge of allegiance was led by our Vice President Bobby Smajstrla.

President Barabas then called for a few moments of silence for the sick and departed loved ones.

Secretary Sandra Barabas read the minutes of the previous meeting and Mydell Grochoske gave the financial

11 report. Both reports were accepted as given.

Youth Leader Teresa Hampton gave a nice report; she reported that the youth members of Lodge 180 went to Six Flags and really had a good time. We were sorry to hear that she could no longer be our youth leader. She has accepted a teaching position at Amarillo, Texas.

Teresa has done a great job with the youth and she will be missed by all of us.

The Sunshine Committee reported it had sent get-well cards to Karen Cathey and Charlene Vaughan. We wish to congratulate Gordon Cox on the arrival of a baby girl!

Our lodge wishes to extend a big welcome to eight new adult members: Robert S. Easley, Jerry Donald Mabry, Jack S. Meacher, Billy Joe Russell, Granville Joyce Russell, Joe Alvin Russell, Rebecca Gail Russell and Ethel Schaefer. Glad to have all of you as members.

Lodge 180, Burleson wishes to invite everyone to our first anniversary of the opening of our lodge on Sunday, August 26th. 12 .. DALLAS CIRCLE OF CZECH WOMEN The Dallas Circle of Czech Women met Thursday, August 2nd. The meeting was called to order by President Ella Bartos. The pledge of allegiance to the U.S. flag was repeated, followed by a few moments of silence in memory of Sisters Antonie Cechan and Frances Houzvicka. Mrs. Lucille Houzvicka, wife of Frank Houzvicka and daughter-in-law of our departed Sister Frances Houzvicka, passed away last month. Sincere sympathy is extended to all their loved ones.

Reports from officers: Sister Mary Sebestik read the minutes in the absence of Sister Josie Kankrlik. They were approved as corrected. She also took the minutes of this meeting. Sister Vlasta Jurcik gave a good financial report.. The financial-membership secretary, Sister Rose Kopecek, reported that our membership was 101, lost two by death, which made it 99, received 2 new members; so now our membership is 101 again. New members welcomed to our Circle were Mrs. Ella Fojt and her daughter, Mrs. Esther Cunningham.

Corresponding secretary, Sister Mary Sebestik, read "thank-you" notes from Sister Frances Baleja for gift received during her illness; the Junior Sokol volleyball team for pastries and donations; family of Antonie Cechan for the memorial contribution to the American Heart Fund; family of Frances Houzvicka for the contribution to the Girl Scouts Organization, and Sister Mary Toberny, thanking Sister Anne Zvolanek for doing such a good job taking care of the details for the bus trip.

Greetings were read from "The Travelling Vrlas" from Yellowstone National Park, Mrs. Andela Subertova and Sister Libby Tlamicha from Czechoslovakia; Sister Karla Kraft thanked the Circle for the birthday card.

Sister Millie Noska reported 11 cards sent during June and July and a $1 donation from Sister Toberny for stamps.

It was good to see Frank Henzen among our midst; his wife, Evelyn, and his mother, Sister Hattie Hamusek, are members of the Circle. He thanked all the sisters for the lovely cards sent him and for thinking of him during his illness.

Sister Skotak related greetings from her sister, Berta Paryzkova from Czechoslovakia, who is a member of our Circle.

Sister Mary Sebestik brought back greetings to the Circle members from Jarmila Svoboda, also from Czechoslovakia.

Sister Bertha Malik has returned from some extensive travelling; her travels took her to Nova Scotia in June and in July to Central America, South America and the Amazon.

After Tom and I get through working with honey, we'll take off for a week or longer. The honey bees are working overtime this year.

It was discussed to charter a bus (if there are enough interested), to the Westfest, Saturday, Sept. 1st. If interested, contact Sister Anne Zvolanek - 821-1808.

We received our new membership and by-laws books; they are very nice.

Thanks to Sister Rose Kopecek for taking care of the printing of the books.

There were 37 members and 12 guests present of the meeting. The guests were Mrs. Ella Fojt, Mrs. Esther Cunningham, Mrs. Jackie Fitz, her daughters, Peggy and Sherry, daughter-in-law and granddaughters of Sister Marie Fitz, Mrs. Linda Coker and son, Christopher, daughter and grandson of Sister Millie Bartek, Frank Henzen, Joe Vlk, John Bubak, George Skotak, and Todd Lueke, grandson of Sister Susan Kutlik.

Hostesses for the day were Sisters Adel Vlk, Millie Bartek, Evelyn Salac, Frances Barfield, Libbie Elsik, Vickie Kohn and Libbie Smith.

There were 31 who took the bus trip to the SPJST Museum in Temple. It was a rainy day but we had a great time. We were greeted very warmly by Museum Curator, Mr. Otto Hanus. It was so good to see Sister Fannie Konakovsky and her Sister Della from Taylor; they made a special trip to visit with us. Nick A. Morris, president of the Supreme Lodge SPJST, came by to say "hi" to all of us.

On our return trip, the bus stopped in West. The passengers took off in all directions - for kolache, strudl, meat, beer, coffee, etc. The bus stopped at the Cechoslovak Publishing Co. and Maxine and Rudy Sefcik came to greet us and took pictures of the group. Everyone enjoyed browsing around in the gift shop next door.

Sister Millie Noska visited Sister Adela Lesikar of Taylor recently. Sister Lesikar sent her regards to members of the Circle.

My apologies to anyone who thought our meeting was to be held August 3rd; that was my mistake. I'm sorry that Sister Leona Polansky was the one who missed our meeting on the 2nd 'because of my error. It won't happen again.

SOFTBALL TEAM REPORT ILODGE NO. 84, DALLAS

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Saturday afternoon, August 4th, we opened play in the Dallas City Championship playoffs with a 4:30 p.m. game against the Charlie's team at Kiest Diamond No. 7. We won the game by a score 1 to 0 in a real well-played ball game. Lionel Schulz hurled an outstanding game allowing 4 hits, a walk and 3 strikeouts in racking up the win.

Offensively, Rick Fountain had a double, Kerry Goad a triple and Don Lennox, Roy Andrews and Jeff Burton, all had single safeties. By winning this game, we had .another game at 9 p.m.

Our opponents were the GSI team and we won another thriller by a score of 2 to 1. We had another outstanding pitching performances on the mound by Roy Andrews, who allowed 4 hits, 1 run, 4 walks and 11 strikeouts. The team played flawless ball afield because no errors were committed.

Leading hitters for the game were Jerry Zabojnik with a homerun and a single, Rick Fountain with 2 singles, Don Lennox and Danny Yates, each had a single, Randy Christian had a single and

Wednesday, August 15, 1979 a walk, Roy Andrews had a walk and Kenny Skierski earned a single and a sacrifice hit. Thursday, we remained in the winner's bracket with a 10:30 a.m. game Sunday morning, August 5th.

Sunday, we played Hendrix Glass at 10:30 a.m. and we lost by a score of 5 to 1 and thus dropped down into the loser's bracket. Lionel Schulz was the losing pitcher allowing 5 runs, 9 hits, 2 walks and 7 strikeouts, which was not a bad effort; but, we needed runs to win this game.

Offensively, we only had 2 hits, a walk and a sacrifice which tells the story very clearly. By losing, we had a game at 1 p.m. Roy Andrews had a single, Albin Vrana had a single, Rick Fountain made a sacrifice hit and Danny Yates with base-on-balls.

There were three teams left in the playoff: Hendrix Glass in the winner's bracket and us, plus Federal Energy in the loser's bracket. A win and we were assured a second place finish, a loss and a third place finish in the City for 1979.

We played Federal Energy at 1 p.m. and another tough game by a score of 2 to 1 and were thus eliminated from the playoffs, but still we came in third place for 1979 in the City of Dallas.

Roy Andrews was the losing pitcher allowing 2 runs, 8 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts which was indeed a good performance; however, we still need the runs to win. It was a well-played game and I am very proud of the team's performance during the playoffs considering that a couple of the regular starters were hurt and couldn't play. All we really needed was a few more base hits and runs and we could have been first place winners.

At bat for our team, Roy Andrews had a double, Danny Yates, a single and Dan Palm had a single, and we scored only 1 run which amounted to a defeat.

We still have game-makeup games to play in our Thursday night Richardson League, one was scheduled for Thursday night, August 9th at 8:30 p.m. Also, we are entered in the Dallas ASA Tournament on the week of August 13th and our first game will be played August 13th at 8 p.m. at Kiest Diamond No. 1.

We are very grateful to the fans and wives of players who attended our games. The team deeply appreciated the cheers and we are only sorry we didn't finish higher than third place, but the team gave their best and you cannot ask for more.

JANES-POSIVAL REUNION HELD With approximately 100 people attending, the Rev. Gordon Hejl, pastor of the Wesley-Industry-Nelsonville parish, gave the blessing at the noon meal of the Janes-Posival reunion. The occasion took place Sunday, August 5th in the SPJST Lodge Hall in Bleiblerville, Texas.

Steering this year's reunion were Mrs. Lonnie Thielemann of Industry, Mrs. Viola Kramer and Adolph Schulz, both of Brenham.

Our thanks to the Steering Committee, to Rev. Hejl and to everyone who helped and participated in making our 1979 reunion an enjoyable success.

Plans for the 1980 reunion to be held in the Buckholts area, will be announced at a later date.

Dear Readers: Lodge No. 6 held its regular monthly meeting Friday, August 3rd. President Dobecka had Karen Hykel and Shirley Dobecka to recite the pledge to our United States flag. Karen than recited the SPJST pledge.

The roll call of officers showed one not present.

Secretary Barbara Hykel was called on to read the minutes of the previous meeting. They were approved as read.

Correspondence was then read from the United Paul's Church of Christ of Leroy inviting everyone to their dedication of their new building and meal. Also, a thank-you note from Sister Barbara Hykel was read thanking everyone for her cards, gifts, and visits while she was in the hospital for surgery. It was good to see her with us so soon.

All other officers presented their reports. They were all approved as given.

Youth Leader Willie Mae Schuetz reported the youth plan to visit the rest home August 8th. The youth had a swim party July 8th. An ice cream party was held July 20th. Eight members attended Camp Val Verde. Sister Schuetz thanked all those who worked at the youth games, donated items and food for the youth stands and auction for the picnic. The youth will have a float in the West Rodeo and Westfest parades. Lillian Perez brought the birthday cake.

President Dobecka thanked everyone for their work and donation's that made the lodge picnic a success.

The youth who had entered items at YAD or had talent and the royalty

13 contestants were all presented monetary gifts for their jobs well done.

With Westfest coming up September I st and 2nd, workers will be needed both days. The booths will have to be setup that Thursday before Westfest. Please note that anyone wanting to work different shills on what day, please let Brother Dobecka or Sister Schuetz know as soon as possible.

The $9 progressive door prize was for Sister Stella Perez, but she was not present. The $2 door prize was won by Sister Lydia Dobecka.

The next Board of Trustees' meeting is set for August 31st at 8 p.m.

Our lodge monthly meeting will be Friday, September 7th at '8 p.m.

FEATURES VERNON-SKRABANEK WEDDING VOWS EXCHANGED Miss Janis Kathryn Vernon became the bride of Mr. John Paul Skrabanek in a double ring ceremony in the First Baptist Church of College Station June 2nd, at four o'clock in the afternoon.

The Reverend David McMullen, a student at Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, performed the ceremony. Dr. and Mrs. Ralph J. Vernon of College Station are parents of the bride and the groom's parents are Mrs. John Paul Skrabanek, Sr. and the late Mr. John Paul Skrabanek, Sr. of Caldwell.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. The wedding vows were exchanged in front of a candle lit altar.

Arches and spirals of white tapers, greenery and a peach spray of flowers formed the background. Votiv candles lighted the altar rail that was covered with greenery. The unity candle was placed in front of the altar rail and lit during the ceremony by the couple.

Miss Vickie Kirk of Tyler and Miss Linda Colkin of Tyler registered the guests and handed out programs of the wedding service and wedding party.

Mrs. H.E. Burgess of College Station was the director for the wedding.

Mr. James Polasek, organist from Lufkin, accompanied soloists Mr. Terry Minton of Dallas, and Mrs. Karen Simmang of Huntsville as they sang "Just. Because We Ask", "The Lord's

Mr. and Mrs. John Paul Puubanek Prayer", and "I Thank You God." Miss Judy Vernon of College Station, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.

Mrs. Jill Minton of Dallas served as matron of honor. Other attendants were Mrs. Nancy Smitb of Wichita Falls, Mrs. Peggy Miller of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Mrs. Lesa Campbell of Columbus, Mississippi.

Mark Skrabanek of Caldwell served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Jack Vernon of Sherman, brother of the bride, Larry Marek of San Antonio and John David Skrivanek of Houston, cousins of the groom and Joseph Polasek of College Station. The groomsmen also served as ushers.

The bridegroom graduated from Caldwell High School and received an accounting degree from Texas A&M University. He is employed with the Texas Engineering Extension Service of Texas A&M University.

The couple took a honeymoon trip to Honolulu, Hawaii, and will move into their new home in Westwood Estates in Bryan, when it is completed in August.

QUEEN TUNAEP XXXV The Floresville Peanut Festival Association, with great pride, announces that Miss Denyse LaNell Heritage has been elected Queen Tunaep XXXV. Denyse is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Heritage and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Russell and Mr. W. R. Heritage, all of Floresville. With Denyse's background being centered around farming and ranching, she and her court have chosen as their theme "The Court of Our Agricultural Frontier". Her reign will start with her coronation at the Peanut Festival on October 12, 1979.

Dear District V Camper: It is time once again to start getting your camping gear ready. This year we will camp at Lutherhill in LaGrange, Texas. We will leave Lodge 88 Thursday, August 16, 1979 at approximately 11 a.m. Bring with you a

sack lunch to eat on the bus, the soft drinks will be furnished by the District Youth Counselor. PLEASE BE ON TIME! The following list is what you should pack for camp. It is necessary this year for you to bring your bedding; it is NOT furnished by the camp. Mattresses are furnished by the camp, but you WILL HAVE to bring your own PILLOW and SHEETS. PLEASE, mark every item you bring to camp with your name on it.

1. Toilet articles (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, comb, brush, etc.)

2. Towels (at least 3) 3. Underwear (change for each day) 4. Shorts 5. Long pants 6. Shirts (no halter tops) 7. Shoes and socks (tennis shoes) 8. Bathing suit and cover-up 9. Wash cloth 10. 15. Medication if needed PARENTS: If your child is on a medication, please give the medication to his or her youth leader with directions how it is to be taken. NO CHILD will be allowed to keep medication in their possession. One of the yotith leaders will dispense the medication to your child.

Your child will return from camp to Lodge 88 on Sunday, August 19th, 1979, at approximately 11 a.m. Please be waiting to greet your child when he or she returns from camp.

From The Lodge Youth Leaders LODGE NO. 183, MID-CITIES Dear Members and Friends: I would like to tell everyone what a wonderful time I had at Camp Val Verde, July 24-27th. The other members who attended camp from our lodge were: Nancy Hlavaty, Stephanie Schneider, Shelby Sill, Mrs. Bob Betik, Barbara Betik, Bart Betik, Mrs. Daniel Roznovsky, Donna Roznovsky, Darlene Roznovsky, Monica Rey, Danny Rey and Susie Rey, and I know they also had a great time! Everyone enjoyed swimming, canoeing, archery, horseback riding, the nature trail, learning to make latch hook rugs, the parties, dancing, all the delicious food and sharing all this with such special friends. Nancy and I were leaders for 11 and 12-year-old girls and thoroughly enjoyed each one of them. We sure missed them when we returned home Friday night. Camp was truly a wonderful experience.

Our next youth club meeting will be held Sunday, August 19th, at 2 p.m. at the Arlington Downs Townhouse Clubhouse on Westview Terrace, off Fielder Road in Arlington. Please come, get acquainted and join in the fun.

Nancy and I are planning a special treat for the meeting, so don't miss out. We also want to make some plans to go to Six Flags, skating, etc. See you Sunday, August 19th, at 2 p.m.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Members: Lodge 88 hosted th, annual District V Youth Achievement Day on Sunday, July 29th. It was a big day for our club members and their relatives. Mr. Richard Wahlberg, our district youth counselor, did an excellent job in organizing this function as he always does.

The talent, both individual and group, was great and congratulations to all who participated. The craft sections, in all ages, really outdid themselves this year. I was truly glad to see so many of our youth participate and sincerely hope they continue to do so.

A gentle reminder to our club members going to camp is that we will be leaving August 16th at 11 a.m., so be prompt and be sure all your articles have your name in or on them. See all of you at camp.

LODGE NO. 50, EL CAMPO Dear Vestnik Readers, El Campo Lodge 50 Youth Club met on July 31st at the home of Mrs. Vlasta Bartos, at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting was opened by President Brenda Ermis. The pledge was led by Jodi Henderson. Minutes were read by Jodi Henderson, and the treasury report was given by President Brenda Ermis.

Our youth club gave a memorial to the Holy Cross Memorial Park in memory of Jim Sralla who passed away recently. He was the father of our assistant youth leader, Georgia Henderson and grandfather of two members Lori and Jodi Henderson.

The youth club also voted to sponsor a project to El Campo Memorial Hospital.

They donated colorbooks and colors for children who are in the hospital. We talked about camp and how the youth enjoyed it and pictures were shown that were taken at camp.

Mothers present were Mrs. Anna Bartos, Mrs. Lorine Ermis, Mrs. Georgia Henderson, Mrs. Bernice Rek and Mrs. Vlasta Bartos.

On July 15th, eight of our youth club members attended YAD in Boling. In 6 to 9 age group, Amanda Vanek won second place in, Individual Talent.

In craft (6-9) group Jo Danette Henderson won second in Hobby Kits,

19 first place in Science/Education and third place in another category.

Patrick Bartos won first place in Pictorial Arts in age group 10-12.

In craft 10-12 group Veronica Bartos won third place in Handicraft.

In 13-14 Kim Vanek won first place in Pictorial Arts and first place in Hobby Kits; and Lori Henderson won first place in Science/Education.

Our scrapbook won second place and our youth club won third place.

Our next meeting will be held on August 20th at the home of Edward Ermis at 7:30 p.m.

The youth members really had a great time at camp this year, so did the chaperone. It was really great to see the youth having so much fun visiting and having fellowship with the youth from other iodges. e also appreciate the help of the mother lodge members, especially Ray Johnson who was kind enough to loan his trailer to us to carry our clothes and other camp necessities with us.

I want to thank Marijo Bobalik and Bill Erwin for going to camp at LITs for our youth club. They were a great help to everyone there.

We missed our regular social game but I heard they had a good crowd.

We had our regular monthly meeting and voted to have only adults to call our social games. We also voted to have a garage sale to help raise money for a new dance floor for the mother lodge.

School will be starting in a few weeks and we hope everyone has had a nice summer vacation.

Dear Members and Readers: I am sorry I have not written lately, with with summer being here, I have been busy canning and freezing and trying to raise chickens.

During the month of June we rode an entry in the Cameron Folk Fete Parade, took a trip to Six Flags, had a bake sale, and the youth members went swimming with other District II youth members at Temple Lions Park.

July 8th, we attended the District II Youth Achievement Day at Elgin.

Rhonda Slavik won two 1st place ribbons in the craft division. She will go to the State Youth Achievement Day in Temple on August 26th. Shirley Letters From The Youth Slavik entered the queen contest and did very well., LODGE NO. 66, WACO At our meeting July 9th, the youth members discussed attending camp.

Dear Readers, The youth club accepted a new member, Thank you for letting me go to camp.

Tommy Bedrich. We had a birthday District III camp was held July 24th cake and punch for Rhonda Slavik.

The youth members and I have just through 27th at Val Verde. We had a returned from Camp Val Verde. I had a. good time riding horses at camp. blast. Since it was may first time there, I Archery was very exciting. Everyone want to thank everyone for being so enjoyed the swimming. For craft we did helpful. Brother Frank Klinkovsky did a hook rugs. Disco was also taught. Camp real good job on planning the activities. was real fun and I cannot wait until next year.

I also want to tell the girls and boys Don't forget the lodge meeting on from Group No. 5 how much fun I had Sunday, August 19th. and I hope to see them next year, if not Fraternally, sooner.

Dear Readers, District V YAD was held July 29, at q Lodge 88. We had a good attendance of youths and adults from our lodge.

LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE Dear Readers, The Hallettsville SPJST Lodge No. 4 Youth Club held their meeting July 8th, at the Grant Building.

Under old business the winners of District VI YAD were announced. We also discussed bringing something to the Goodwill.

For new business we discussed State YAD for August 26th at Temple.

Practices for YAD were discussed, Our District VI meeting will be held September 23rd at East Bernard where we will have a money-making project.

Each member is asked to bring an article for the project. The program for next month will be "Labor Day." We also plan to have a back-to-school party with a back-to-school contest.

The Refreshment Committee for next month will be Mrs. Jimmy Krpec and

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the members of Lodge No. 50, El Campo, wish to express our sympathy to the family of our beloved brother JIM SRALLA, age 78, who died on Friday, July 27th, 1979.

Brother Matejek was a former resident of Hallettsville for the past 50 years. He was retired from Hughes Tool Co. He was a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church, a member of the SPJST Lodge No. 88, and of the Fraternal Herald.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 15, Buckholts, in behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family of our departed lodge brother HENRY J. HAVIIIC, who died in the Veterans' Hospital in Temple Tuesday, July 24th, 1979 at the age of 89, after a long illness.

Brother Havlik was born October 8th, 1889 at Wesley, Texas. His parents were John and Johana (Baca) Havlik. In 1923 he married Miss Matilda Tomasek.

Brother Havlik was a veteran of WWI, a retired farmer and a member of the SPJST Lodge No. 15, Buckholts for 70 years and he was one of the oldest members; he joined the lodge July 8th, 1909.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.

Thursday at the Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Ernest Helsley officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Matilda Havlik of Cameron; sons, Henry Havlik of Cameron and James Havlik of Killeen; a daughter, Nora Lee Zavodny of Cameron; a brother, Louis Havlik of Temple; sisters, Mrs. Minnie Johnson, Miss Frances Havlik, Mrs. Marie Wright and Mrs. Valasta Brown, all of Temple and three grandchildren.

Oba dva boli v Houstone, kde som ich stretnul, sme sa dobre zabavili s nimi. Na rano sme odiegli do KarlovS, Varou, tam postavily 15 poschodou motel menom Thermal. Je to velmi krasne.

Tak sme odig li do Chebu, do Nemecka, do Frankfurtu, na letadlo.

Pry sme leteli letadlom z Houstonu do Washington, D.C. potom do Frankfurt, v Nemecku, potom autom do Svagiarska do Viedne, V RakOsku a do Bratislavy po Slovensku.
