The District VI YAD was held Sunday, July 15th at the Boling CommunityCenter in Boling, Texas. It was a nice day, rather warm, of course, and we can not expect anything else in the month:of July.

The YAD was nice and well-oi!ganized

by DYC Elsie Brdecka and WO Dorothy Massey, however, the effect of the gasoline shortage was visible because of the smaller attendance and, yet, we have to be careful to be appreciative of the people and parents who did come anyway. The youth always appreciates interest in their efforts. It is rewarding to see the glow of excitement and enthusiasm in their . eyes and face to be able to compete and accomplish something. They, also, are always so well-behaved! Keep it up you • young members!

Saturday night, - we tilled up our gasoline tank in Schulenburg and, on the way back from Boling . we stopped at Columbus, Weimar, etc. and found only this: Signs that read: Closed, NO GAS. Finally we found an out-of-the-way grocery store with gasoline and got enough to go to West. We realized one thing: this wil y certainly curtail our travels in the future. see There is quite a bit this editor could write about our present gasoline situation, having been in that business from 1948 to 1964, and, very probably, some day soon, will , do so.

It was and is understandable that no person of any common sense could believe that when Iran (which produced 5% of the world's oil supply and MOST of that 5% went elsewhere) shut down its oil wells, it was supposed to cause such an oil shortage here in our United States! Now, the Justice Department has come out with a statement that the oil companies did not order and buy as much oil in 1979 as in 1978 so they could' get a better price for their gasoline and that the Iranian shutdown caught them unexpectedly and that whatever they did in their action was perfectly legal.

Well, we guess so, however, what if our farmers, bakeries, milk producers, meat producers. etc. caught on to that idea!

Ponder the question and seek an answer! *** How to figuce how much social security you will get isn't an easy figure to arrive at. because each worker's benefits are calculated on the average monthly Clvered wages on which he or she paid Social Security taxes in covered employment during his or her working career.

Full retirement benefits are paid to eligible individuals who retire at age 65; those who retire at ages 62 to 64 get benefits that are actuarially reduced for early retirement. Additional benefits are paid for dependents of retired workers.

For example, the benefits of a worker who retires at 65 will be increased 50 percent if he has a wife who is also 65. In addition, Social Security pays benefits to survivors of insured individuals and benefits to disabled workers and their dependents.

To earn maximum retirement benefits today, a worker aged 65 must have paid maximum Social Security taxes on the maximum wage base for 19 years. The niaximum tax in 1977 was $965 on a maximum covered earnings. base of $16,500. In 1978, the maximum earnings base moved to $17,700 and the Maximum Social Security tax to $1,071.

Recently enacted legislation provides fOr each of the figures to continue rising.

'By 1987 the maximum tax is estimated to . be $3,045.90 on an estimated maximum earnings base of $42,600.

The Social Security maximum earnings base will continue to rise thereafter.

Thus, a worker's earned income must continue to rise if he hopes to earn maximum Social Security benefits which will also increase in the future.

If you qualified for maximum benefits in early 1978, you would receive $459.80 monthly from Social Security. A married couple who both worked and earned maximum benefits could get as much as $919.60 a month, and a married couple of 65 years of age where the wife never worked could get as much as $698.70 a month. A 65-year-old widow of a man who dies at age 65 in early 1978 can get a maximum of $459.80 monthly. A widow with two children under 18 years of age whose husband dies in early 1978 in his 50's could receive as much as $775.60 a Month. • Unfortunately, many people do not get the maximum benefits because during their working lives they didn't earn enough or Work long enough to qualify for the highest Social Security benefits.

The national average for a single retired worker , is now $234 a month. On the

3 average, married couples now get $400 a month and a 'widow now gets $223 a month. A widow with two minor children now gets $547 a month on the average, the Social Security Administration says. * ** If you have a complaint or compliment for the Social Security system, now is the time to let your voice he heard by the government.

We remind everyone that between now and October 1979 the Social Security Advisory Committee, which reviews the system's operations every four years, will be hearing testimony and receiving public comments before the committee issues its report to the President and Congress.

Forty-four members for $174,000 in insurance sales for a six-month total of 389 members for $2,805,000 in insurance sales. As a whole, we are progressing nicely, exceeding for 1978 six-month total.

Total insurance sales in the month of May were $77,000 for 13 members.

If you do not have a new rate book, you can obtain one by sending your old rate book to the, Supreme Lodge home office at Temple' by mail and you will receive the new rate book by mail, in exchange.

LODGE NO. 84, DALLAS Dear Members: We are still talking about the picnic at the Pokladnik farm. It was our last at this location, but we won't forget it for a long time. Our appreciation and thanks to members who brought pastry or gifts for the games, hams and bacon (the Ondrtiseks), the use of trucks to bring things to the location, our kitchen crew, tractor drivers, our musicians who must have practiced several days for this performance, the youth who were allowed to hold the reins of the horses that pulled the wagon loaded with people; even Sister Maxine Sefcik braved

long trip through and by all those beautiful pecan trees. Of course, after reading the last Vestnik, we know what our editor was doing all this time.

To our hosts Brother Sid and Sister Justine Pokladnik, our thanks for sharing their land, their endless efforts to have us feel welcome, who also, donated all the barbecue and drinks enjoyed by the young and those not so young all day long. Like we say, it was a great fraternal gathering, you should have been there!

The Entertainment Committee met last night to complete plans for . September 9th, our Czechfest. A pork and sauerkraut klobase, parsley potAtoes, green beans, bread, drink and dessert dinner will be the main attraction.

Booths lining the lodge walls will entice you to stay and enjoy the many attractive prizes offered after you have seen and talked to everyone there. More will be written about this day; only seven weeks away. We ask your help to make it a success and plan to donate a cake, prizes, plants or just about anything will be appreciated from you.

Dr. Paul V. Webber, Director of Continuing Education at Alvin Community College, is seeking help in locating someone qualified to teach Czech to persons of the Alvin area.

William E. Souchek of Houston, who has instructed Czech classes at ACC for five years, is currently quite heavily engaged in Czech instruction at the University of Houston Main 'Campus and will be unable to continue his association with ACC. Souchek and several members of the ACC Czech Club are assisting with the search for an instructor.

LODGE NO. 185, NEW BRAUNFELS Dear Members: Our monthly meeting was held July 5th, 1979 at Eagles Hall in New Braunfels.

President Roy Haag called the meeting to order with Doug Jasek leading us in the pledge of allegiance.

All officers were present with twenty-eight members present.

The treasurer's report and minutes were read and approved.

There has been a considerable length of The PoIdadniks' grandchildren each marched forward with a placard announcing time since 1 have reported to the the year of their birth.

Vestnik. Here is, a brief summary on sonic important happenings: Edith Prazak resigned as treasurer and Tom Matschek was elected as our new treasurer.

An Auditing Committee consisting of Roy Haag, Howard Athas, and Dorothy Matschek met May 9th, 1979 and reported at our June meeting that the treasurer's records were in sound condition.

Aubrey King has been appointed to our Executive Board for the remainder of the year.

Our youth group is having a swimming party July 24th at Landa Park in New Braunfels. They also have made plans and are looking forward to summer camp at Camp Val Verde from August 6th through 10th.

Our next regular meeting was planned for August 2nd at the Eagles Hall. We will discuss our outing plan for August 19th at Cypress Bend Park in New Braunfels.

Finally. we had a winner for the door prize drawing. A very proud little girl Shay Orsag's name was drawn for the $35 prize. There was also a surprised and happy lather. You all come join its.

LODGE NO. 183, MID-CITIES Dear Readers, Lodge 183 Mid-Cities held its first family picnic SUnday, July 15th in Arlington at the Arlington Downs Townhouse Pecan Grove Section. A -short meeting was held prior to the picnic.

President Bernard Hlavaty called the meeting to order and Flag Bearer Gary Roznovsky led the group in the pledge of allegiance.

Daniel Roznovsky gave his membership report: five new members and three transfers.

Treasurer Inez Greenlees read her financial report.

Minutes from the last meeting were not available and will be read at the next meeting.

Officers absent were 1st Vice President Gene Havran, 2nd Vice President Barbara Betik and Secretary Maurine Hamilton; they had other commitments for this same day.

We had, as our special guest, Brother Sid Pokladnik, District HI director. We are grateful, Sid, for accepting President Hlavaty's invitation and taking time from your busy schedule to be present with us at our monthly meeting and family picnic.

In his speech Sid pointed out that even though Lodge 183 was in its infancy, he could see great potential and a healthy growth for the lodge. Sales representatives were advised to be selective in choosing their members and strive to obtain persons willing to be workers and interested in promoting the good of the lodge, and when the time comes for Lodge 183 to secure property and lodge hall, Sid's sound advice: don't go overboard. He said many of the lodges are experiencing a real struggle to meet their monthly expenses, with the tight money situation today and the higher costs of bands, food, etc., being the reason.

We thank Sid for his kind words and advice and hope he will visit with . us again soon.

We had another guest, a very charming lady, Edna Urbanic of Columbus, Texas, formerly of Galveston and Lodge No. 173. She is now a resident of East Bernard and member of Lodge No. 28.

Edna is also the aunt of our treasurer, Inez Greenlees. Edna, you are always welcome.

No business was discussed during this meeting. After President Hlavaty adjourned the meeting everyone began enjoying the picnic.

Robert and Pat Sill are to be highly commended for the outstanding job they did in handling the arrangements for the picnic. They really did a super great job.

Thank you too, Shelby. And we had two great chefs Rudy Rejcek and• Victor Mikeska. These fellows really knew how to grill those yummy burgers. Thanks fellows, you handled the job like pros.

Gene Havran, 1st vice president, was the donor of the keg of beer. Thanks Gene, sorry you couldn't have been with us. We all appreciate your fraternal gesture.

And, of course, thanks to all who brought other food items to make the picnic complete.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the food, drinks, games and visiting together.

This picnic was another first for Lodge 183 and, hopefully, we can have some other socials.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Sister Pearl Hanka in the absence of Secretary Rosalee Kostom.

They were approved as read.

Sister Stella Bukowski, who is the sister Of Sister Agnes Lesak, was reported in the hospital in. Austin.

Our dear Sister Frances Walla passed away June 25th and was laid to rest Wednesday, June 27th at 1:30 p.m.

Sister Walla was 84 years old but she will .always be remembered for her beautiful and clever hand work which she would donate to the Birthday Club. Those darling little dolls that Sister Walla made were so original. May this kind sister rest in peace.

Sister Mary Ehret painted a beautiful _picture, which she framed, and she has donated it to the Birthday Club for a prize on Homecoming Day, August 5th.

Dear Members and Friends: I Time flies and two weeks have passed and here I am missing out reporting in the past two weeks.

July 9th, we had our regular business meeting (which takes place every second Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m.). We had good attendance; about 30 members attended.

All officers had good reports.

The Rules and Regulations of our lodge are being processed and all members can get the copy when processed and when enough copies will be printed.

It was also decided to have a repair fund for our lodge. We need all the financial support we can get; this fund is for the purpose, hopefully, in the future we could have a hardwood floor that would greatly improve our lodge.

We have a general lodge, fund from which all necessary expenses are being used. The proceeds from social activities and lodge dues are put in for that fund. Also, the youth club has its own fund and, of course, the mortuary premium fund collected from members who pay on their insurance, our financial secretary puts this in for deposit until she gets billed from the Supreme Lodge SPJST in Temple; she then forwards the premiums there.

I am sure lots of you noticed we are not making as much from entertainment because our attendance has fallen off. but, still at the same time, everything is going up that we have to buy. I don't think we, as members, who do some work at the lodge should get paid for it.

The way I feel about the lodge just like the late John F. Kennedy made a statement in one of his speeches: "It is not what the country can do for you, but what you can do for the country," is what counts. And that is the way I feel about the lodge. If any of you would like to make a contribution to the repair fund, it will be appreciated. If anyone wants to make a sizeable contribution, I am sure the lodge will be happy to have your name engraved on a plaque or

LODGE NO. 13, DIME BOX

Dear Members and Friends: Sunday, July IS, the youth club of Lodge 13 sponsored a family outing at Neil's Creek Park, thus making the attendance of the regular monthly lodge meeting a rather slim one. Only twelve members and one visitor were present.

Registration began at 1:50 p.m. and vice president, Bro. Albin Horak, called the meeting to order at 2 p.m. Bro. Arnold John Tydlacka led us in the pledge to the flag.

Due to the absence of the secretary and treasurer, all reports and minutes were read by the, fin. secretary, Magdalene Iselt. They were all approved as read.

Several items of business were discussed and voted upon. It was reported that the emergency alarm system has been installed on the two back exit doors. Large signs have been posted on the doors plainly showing that they are to be used for emergency use only. The management is asking everyone to please cooperate and not to bump against these doors for any other

purpose. If the public will not cooperate, the lodge will be forced to file against anyone sounding off the alarms for any other purpose than an emergency.

Three new members were accepted into membership of Lodge 13. They are Edward, Norma and Hershel Tomanetz.

Also, Annie Mae Marek bought an additional policy. We welcome all of you!

The St. Joseph Catholic Church is having a bazaar at the SPJST hall and its picnic grounds Sunday, July 29.

Let's all come out that day and enjoy a day of fellowship with old friends and meet new friends.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON

The Friday night dance July 13th with music by the famous orchestra of Eddie Skeets was well-attended and the music was great; all the guests had a good time. The Hosting Committee in charge was Frances Crossman and her husband, Norval, assisted, Juanita Simmons and June Surratt looked lovely greeting the guests. Their spouses, Orville Simmons and Earl Surratt, had their hands full to seat the arriving guests.

Saturday, July 14th was with the Patek orchestra playing all the good polkas, (of course, they played other music too) to please everyone present.

The dance was hosted by Orlando Richards in charge of the evening and his spouse, Era, in the box office while Gene and Ruth Kibbons greeted the arriving guests.

Our monthly lodge meeting Monday, July 9th, as usual, was fairly well-attended by devoted members who have the welfare of the lodge at heart.

Again, we had a guest, Sister Albina Hilsher; she seems to become a regular guest because she lives in Houston with her children. Albina is a member of Lodge Warrenton No. 179 and we love to have you. Also, Sister Evelyn Mikeska. our District V sales representative, had two cousins to attend our meeting: Mrs. Ruza Nedbalek and Mr. Vaclav Smid, both from Czechoslovakia visiting Ruza's son, Brother Zdenek Nedbalek. Both of them will be here in the states for several months. We hope you will come again while here.

Brother John Broz was reported as being in the Methodist Hospital where he had surgery. Hope you are on your way to good health.

Quite a few wedding anniversaries were announced: Leander and Josephine Pflughaupt (9 years), Gene and Katherine Mikeska (13 years), Seth and Ruth Duncan (8 years), Henry and Doris Knapick (?), Herbert and Emma Jarisch (50 years), Robert and Ruth Martinak (49), Ed and Carlene Carlock (9 years).

Numerous birthdays were celebrated, but one member especially deserves an extra mention, none other than, Sister Annie Baethe; she is a faithful member and a special sister of the Birthday Club. Annie spent many hours working at whatever was necessary. In her 90 years, she put a lot of good work to build Lodge No. 88. Annie, more power to you and good luck for many years to come.

At the Friday dance we had guests Helen and Joe Skrasek, members from Lodge No. 154, Fort Worth. With them at Table No. 9 were their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Russell and Lyn Hozel from Kansas; they all enjoyed the music of Eddie Skeets.

Jerry and Agnes Lupanec, at the Friday dance, were all smiles and beaming all over, not because they enjoyed the music, but with pride over their new addition to the Lupanec family. The grandson, Jason Michael Adkins, is the first born to their daughter married to Rodney Adkins.

Daughter Shirley, married to Ralph Todd, already presented her parents with two lovely granddaughters: ages 6 and 10, which made it three now. I am sure the new grandson will have all the attention, especially from grandpa.

Congratulations!

July 9th, 1979 was a sad day for Brother Gus and Sister Clara Ann Urbanovsky because they travelled to Falls to attend the funeral services of their brother-in-law, Mr. Lee Pokorny who passed away after a serious and lengthly illness at the age of 70 years. Mr. Pokorny was confined several times in the Anderson Hospital here in Houston for treatments while his wife, Mary, stayed with Gus and Clara Ann Urbanovsky in their cozy and lovely home. They did everything to lighten Mary's worries. Lee Pokorny was laid to rest July 11th, 1979 in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery. May he rest in peace. Our deepest sympathy to the surviving family.

The main topic of discussion was the possible merger of Lodges 7, 17, 116 and 120. It was decided that all discussions would be tabled until the next meeting, which will be held August 5th. At that time we will try to cover everything before voting.

After the next meeting we will audit the books.

We have five new members. They are: Lawrence Link, James Robinsbn, Wenifred Surovik, John Melvin Allright and Cindy Gila Allright.

Dear Readers, The July meeting was called to order July 11th, 1979. All officers were present, except 2nd Vice President Rae Lisenbe.

We had Mr. and Mrs. Pavelka from Lodge 47 as our visitors. We were glad to have you visit and please attend again and thanks for attending. Also, we had the privilege of having our State King Donnie Lueck. Donnie was visiting with the Tomastik family. Clifford and Donnie have been friends for many years. Donnie also attended the District II YAD. Our new members are: Patricia Donald Hill, Shirley Arline Hill, Wesley Glynn Hill, Rachel Louise Oujezdsky, Kevin Joseph Oujezdsky, Lisa Oujezdsky, John Aguiree Olivares and Frances Lee Dewitt. All these new members were voted on by the membership and accepted into our lodge. Come out and join all the lodge activities. Thank you for joining our Lodge 177.

The Board of. Trustees did not meet for the month of July. They will meet as scheduled for August.

Youth Leader Bettye Hawk gave her report. She stated that she had 17 members with 3 visitors and 5 adults.

There will be a swimming party held July 25th from 3 p.m. until ? Bettye also named the YAD winners: Brady Hutka, 1st place; Missy Hawk, 1st' place and Terry Tyroch, 1st place. Also, the youth club won 1st place in District II. Congratulations! Keep up the good work.

Wednesday, July 25, 1979 All committee chairpersons were present. Each gave their report and all reports showed much progress to our lodge.

President Hutka asked if there were any questions; if so, direct them to the chairman. No questions were asked.

The party was then discussed. It was a good one, as usual, we always have a good time. The steaks were very good.

Thanks go to Ricky Beck, Louis Driska and Pansey Stalmach.

President Hutka read a thank-you note from the Academy School Board and Mr. Hunt, thanking our lodge and its members for the outstanding donations they made to the school. We are getting a new school at Academy and the people of the community are supplying the furniture; there had been garage sales, bake sales, and game nights by the Academy SPJST Lodge No. 177. Once, again, we are proud of our lodge and its members and its loyal workers who come out so faithfully and do lots of hard work.

Clifford Tomastik was presented a $50 Savings Bond and Missy Hawk was presented a $25 Savings Bond for selling the most tickets on the TV that the youth club had as their money-making project. The mother lodge bought the Savings Bonds; that's just another good thing the mother lodge does for our youth club members.

At one of our Saturday night dances, Mr. and Mrs. John Motl of Lodge No. 92, Fort Worth were at Academy. They were with Mr. and Mrs. Wells from Lodge No. 47, Seaton. They were having a great time and were praising our lodge and its facilities. Come again, we love having you!

LODGE NO. 66, WACO Dear Members: SPJST Lodge No. 66 held their meeting Sunday, July 15 with President Henry West conducting the meeting.

The flags were presented by Brothers Eddie Mazanec and Ray Orsag. The members recited the pledge of allegiance and lodge motto.

Visitors were Jewel Warhole and Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Vybiral. We were glad to have you visit with us. Hope you will come again.

Sister Pruitt read the June meeting minutes which were approved as read.

Brother George Pauling read the minutes of the Board of Trustees' meeting held Monday night, June 25th.

The quarterly reports for April, May and June were made by Brother Emil Hanus, the Linden Hall treasurer; Brother Frank Parma, ticket office chairman and Brother Frank Miller, Linden Hall secretary who gave a detailed overall report for the past six months. These were all very good reports.

Sister Libbie Parma gave the youth club report. She told of their bus trip to YAD at Longview Lodge No. 178. They had a good trip and enjoyed the day.

There were 12 youth club members who had 51 entries in the different categories. There were fourteen 1st place winners, ten 2nd place winners, five 3rd place winners and seven Honorable Mentions.

First in Individual Talent is Steven Stanislav, 1st place in Senior Group Talent are Tena Urbanek, Karen Shelton and Steven Stanislay.

In the Juniors, second place winners were Janice and Donna Stanisla y . The Youth Club won second place and the scrapbook won 1st place.

Sister Parma also read the names of the other winners and places they won.

We congratulate each of you and to those who will go to State YAD, we hope you will come back winners, again.

The club is making plans to attend camp and also other plans for the summer.

Sister Sue Pauling reported on the Entertainment Committee activities on the radio advertising and the happy hour. She reported there would be a social after the meeting and plans are being made for the August meeting.

Brother Eugene Gerlich reported that the Auditing Committee had audited the books and all were in good order.

Sister Darlene Engleke gave her report. She also gave out refund checks and read the names of new members accepted in July. They are; George C. Brown III, Silas H. Smith (additional insurance), Frank Kofnovec (also additional insurance), Sara K. Grier, Gracie Mae Soukup (additional insurance), Freddie E. Ray, Royace M. Hawkins and Ryan Kade Garner.

Welcome to Lodge 66!

Health Committee Report-- Sister Agnes Mazanec reported she had sent get-well cards to Sister Ray Talsman who had been in the hospital. She is at home but is very ill. Let us all remember her in our prayers and that she will improve in health, also Brother Leslie Dungan has been ill. We hope he is feeling better and also Brother Otis

Ceska has been ill. We hope that he is better also.

Congratulations to Steve and Pamela Story, the proud parents of a baby boy.

The mother is the former Pamela Pavelka, daughter of Brother and Sister Robert Pavelka who are the proud grandparents.

A resolution was read for Sister Mollie Vanzura by Brother Eugene Gerlich.

Brother Ed Mazanec made a report on the game nights which have been very successful. He also reported on improvements made inside the bttilding with new additions, repairs and of other plans that are being checked out at the present time. We hope more of you members will come out and help with our game nights. It is a lot of work and we do need helpers, especially in the kitchen, which is very successful and we can use more help in the kitchen and also to help with the pastries. If you can spare some time, it will be appreciated very much.

ON DISTRICT II ACTIVITY

Dear Members: Sunday, July 8th, District II held their YAD at Elgin Lodge No. 18. There was a big turnout of youth and adults.

There were about 150 entries in the craft divisions, 40 entries in talent and 9 queen contestants and 5 king contestants. The first place winners in the craft divisions and talent will enter in the State YAD at Temple High School on Sunday, August 26th. Everybody in District II wishes them all good luck.

Our king and queen, both of whom are from the Granger lodge, will participate at the State Royalty at Lodge No. 180 in Burleson Saturday, September 29th. The best of luck to both of you.

All of the talent was entertaining. The youth who participated in the talent were very brave. How many of the adults would be able to get on a stage by themselves and do as good as the youth did?

Those who saw the craft knew the youth had taken a lot of time and effort to make them the best.

With our YAD over the youth are getting ready for camp. It will be at Camp Val Verde. The Juniors will go July 28 through 31st and the Teens will go July 31st through August 3rd.

The District II fall meeting will be at Taylor Lodge No. 29 on August 12th.

DISTRICT I YOUTH CAMP Dear District I Youth Members: Below is a list of the things to bring with you to camp on August 10 through 13: Towels washcloths pillow and pillowcase soap, toothpaste and other toiletry items swimming suit - not cut offs and no bikinis shorts - no "short shorts" will be allowed blouses or shirts - no halters jeans for horseback riding socks comfortable shoes for walking a hat costume for the Three Ring Circus Pennies for carnival night coke money camera flashlight scraps of crepe paper, scarves, costume jewelry, etc. (to use as costumes or party decorations) your favorite records for dancing tennis racket (if you wish to play) Please label all items with your names. Friday night, we will have film to show you about circus life. It is a real goodie!

Saturday night, we will have a carnival. Each club is to prepare a game booth. The booths will charge lc per game, so bring your pennies and join us in the fun.

Sunday night we will have a talent show and beauty contest. This will be VAL VERDE STYLE. Let's get our ideas rolling for this night, and beauties be looking your prettiest.

DISTRICT NO. II CAMP To All Leaders and Campers Attending District II Camp: Camp will start this Saturday for the junior age group starting with ages 6 thru 12. W have 104 youth who sent in entries in this group. This group of children and their chaperones are to arrive at camp between 10 a.m. and 10:30 on Saturday, July 28th. This group will go home Tuesday right before the noon meal and should be gone at about 11:30. The teen group of children ages 13 thru 16 will arrive at Camp Val Verde between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The activities for the junior group will start at 2 p.m. Saturday and will continue till Tuesday morning at about 10:30 a.m, at which time camp will be over for the junior group and the teens will arrive. The teen group has only 47 entries so they are not divided very equally this year. This makes a total of 104 children plus about 20 adults attending the junior session and 7 staff people, so it seems that we will have about 131 total in the junior group, and only about 65 total including adults and staff for the teen group.

The morning break which will include cookies and punch is furnished by the camp but for the afternoon break the youth must buy their own soda pop so you should have some money for drinks plus some pennies for a Penny Carnival for the junior group and if they wish to puchase SPJST caps they are $3 and the T-shirts are $2.50 for the blue ones and $4.00 for the red ones but this is not mandatory. However, they will be available.

LEADERS, Please don't forget to make name tags for the youth of your club.

(This is for everyone attending camp.) I will make name tags for the leaders and chaperones. We will have flag ceremonies twice daily and there should be a patriotic song or a poem in addition to the pledge. Each club will have one of these ceremonies for each group so plan what you will do. Table grace will also be given by the youth at each meal.

The shortest way to get to Camp Val Verde is to take Hwy. 36 West out of Temple, go about 6 miles, take Hwy. 317 to the right, toward Moody and go straight through Moody and to McGregor, go to the 2nd red light in McGregor and turn right; this will be Hwy. 84 heading east toward Waco, go about 8 miles to the Val Verde exit to the left, follow that road and when you come to a "T" turn right and then take the 2nd road to the left and that takes you into camp. Stop at the flag pole for further instructions.

FOR LOVELADY YOUTH CLUB; Look at your highway map and when you get to Waco, get on Hwy. 84 that goes from Waco to McGregor, take Val Verde exit to the right and follow instruction given above.

It seems that I am running out of time this year trying to get this in the Vestnik so I hope you will come to camp and see what else was planned this last week.

The schedule planned for this year will be a little faster, especially for the junior category, since we will have them divided int.o five groups and will give them a little less time to rest. w e certainly hope all of you who sent in applications will be able to attend 'because we are having a place reserved for you in your group and your cabin and we have plans to have a great camp.

Dear Youth Club Members: At our monthly youth club meeting July 15, we discussed several items.

First of all, our members will be selling birthday and anniversary dates for our community calendar. Each date will sell for 25 cents. We are having a contest to see who can sell the most birthdays and anniversaries. The first prize will be $30, 2nd, $15 and 3rd $5. The contest started as ofJuly 15 and ends at our next youth club meeting on August 19th.

Let's get on the ball and get this project rolling.

Next of all we discussed buying a TV

for our Youth Room. Our leaders are looking into the cost of this for us, hopefully, we will have a TV by August, Six club members are making plans to attend camp at Val Verde. We will leave Centerville on Thursday, August 10th and go to Waco to ride the Brazos Queen. We will spend the night in Waco and then travel to Val Verde on Friday.

When we leave camp Monday, August 13th, we will go visit the SPJST Museum in Temple. Don't forget to bring your pennies and costume for the circus carnival at camp.

August 24th, we will have, our.

Dance-a-Thon. We will discuss this a lot more at our next meeting.

Skating has been cancelled for the summer months. We will take it back up in September.

LODGE NO. 74, LOVELADY Dear Members and Friends: We had our July youth club meeting Tuesday, July 17th. We combined our meeting and social because of a dance being held by the mother lodge on the first of the month.

The weather was bad and we didn't have very many to attend. The kids who attended enjoyed the refreshments and skating.

Our social games have been doing real well even though several who attend regularly were on vacation.

The youth members will be leaving next Saturday for camp. They are really getting excited about going. We have two members of the youth club going as LITs. I want to tell all the youth members at our lodge how much I appreciate them helping me learn things about the lodge and letting me participate in their activities. I have enjoyed working with the youth more than I can say. They are all a great group of kids and very hardworking.

A group of us went to the District II Youth Achievement Day at Elgin last Sunday (July 8th) and had a wonderful time. Mary Jo Bobalik, our lodge queen, was second runner-up. Lodge 74 won second place in points achievement and several others placed in crafts and talent competition. We are very proud of our youth and know they did their best.

We also had a wonderful turnout on our trip ice-skating at Woodlands. The youth had a very good time and really outdid themselves helping us older ones learn how to get up on the skates.

The kids are really looking forward to camp starting the 28th of July. We have several going for LIT and I know they will dO great.

LODGE NO. 178, LONGVIEW Dear SPJST Brothers and Sisters: Brother Sefcik, I really can not explain wh) you did not receive my letter before this one.

Well, I sure do thank all of the brothers and sisters for the wonderful way you all turned out for the YAD. It made my heart overflow with joy to see all of my friends come to our lodge. I told our members to look for 250 to 300 people and you can see why I was full of joy.

Yes, I had the fate of a mustard seed.

I think our children really did have a good turnout. It is people like you who have also so much faith at the gas crisis as they were.

Brother Sefcik, here is the reason we had a good YAD. There were three families who deserve all the credit: Brother and Sister Hugo Kocian, they got all the publicity, advertising, mayor, our pastor, judges and some of the cleanup came after the Saturday night .dance; the kitchen workers, Brother and Sister Edd Kane who got some judges, brought cakes and other pastries plus worked wherever needed.

Brother and Sister Lipe, plus all the kitchen supplies, did all the cooking which was done by Brother Lipe and his crew, and many thanks to our new members whom I have not met and they also were in the kitchen helping out and if I forgot some one, our thanks to you also.

I think we had the best judges in the world. The y are to be commended a lot.

Wednesday, July 25, 1979 when a large group of boys and girls (also chaperones) assemble to enjoy indoor and outdoor activities.

Our youth leader spoke to us on future activities and also mentioned the nametags for camp.

No one had a birthday in July.

The meeting for next month will be Wednesday, August 1st at 7 p.m. with a social following the meeting.

After adjournment at 7:45 p.m., we enjoyed our social.

LODGE NO. 30, TAITON Dear Vestnik Readers, First, I would like to thank the SPJST for making it possible for the youth clubs to go to District VI camp at Bastrop State Park. I hope everyone enjoyed it like I did, the only think I wish it would be more days because we learn so much when we go to camp. Thanks a lot to the cooks who served such good food and also to the chaperones. I will be looking forward to next year's camp.

I almost forgot to thank those people who took cars; I rode with Mrs. Dorotik, thank you very much.

Dear Readers, Our 'last monthly meeting was held Sunday, July 15th.

Our youth leader, Mrs. Parma reported that our lodge was very successful at District YAD and wished all winners "good luck" at State.

Under new business we decided to go to the new "Wild Water Coaster Slide" in Waco Monday, July 30th at 7 p.m. We also decided to have a "Way Out Games" contest at the August meeting.

Tena Urbanek and Karen Shelton will be in charge of this event. The youth also decided to go to Six Flags Over Texas in September. A definite date will be decided on at the August 19th meeting.

Sunday, July 8th, District II YAD was held at Lodge No. 18 in Elgin. The youth from Lodge 29 did real well. We had about 41 entries, 27 of them placed, 11 of those 27 were 1st place winners.

Congratulations to the winners. Good luck to those going to State YAD. I am proud to say that our scrapbook received first place.

It was real nice to see Donnie Lueck.

We got to visit with Donnie that night after YAD was over.

Camp is coming up soon. Camp for the juniors will be July 28th through 31st and for the teens, camp will be July 31st to August 3rd. We are looking forward to camp.

Our District II fall meeting will be held at our lodge Sunday, August 12th.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at camp and at the fall meeting.

LODGE NO. 107, FLORESVILLE Dear Members and Readers, June and July have been very busy months for the youth club.

June 3rd, the youth club met at the American Legion Park and then traveled to the Uranium mines in Hobson. This was something new and exciting for everyone. First, we were presented with a slide show and then we were split into two groups: one went to the mill where the Uranium is processed and packaged, and the second group toured the pits where the Uranium is dug out of the ground. Then we traded and the other group did what we did and we did what they did. After the tours we were served cookies and sodas. Uranium was the topic of speech all the way home.

June 12, the youth club traveled up to MacArthur Park and had a picnic lunch.

After playing around in the park, we went up the road to the Sports Palace where there was an assortment of games and things to do. There was roller skating, bowling and pinball machines.

June 26, the youth club met with the rest of the District VII Youth Club at Landa Park in New Braunfels for a day of fun. It all started with a sack lunch for

everyone. The park had paddle boats, glass bottom boats, swimming in a springfed pool. swimming roan Olympic pool, miniature golf, and a small amusement park. After swimming most of the day away, we had ice cold watermelon. After a day tilled with fun and sun, it was time to go home so everyone said their goodbyes and we were on our way home.

At our next meeting July 1st we had a smashing party--we smashed aluminum cans. We also had a guest speaker, Richard Bluebaugh from Chevron. He told us about the radiation from the Uranium mines. Many people are worried about this but yOU get more radiation from watching TV and being out in the sun than you do if your working down in the mines.

July 13, the youth club went to town to sell tickets to raise. money for our bus fund.

Everyone is really looking forward to seeing everyone at YAD July 22 in Robstown and then again , at Camp in August.

Next we had a report on the movie "North Avenue Irregulars" which we attended on the 29th. It was decided to see "Main Event" when, it is showing in Brenham. Melissa Wickel was appointed to watch for the movies "The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again" and "Meatball".

Our next report was on the Fayette Power Plant tour which was on July 8th.

We wish to thank our assistant leader, Paula Key, for driving the bus.

Other business discussed was camp.

Then it was time to leave for the swimming pool. We had a swimming party scheduled for this evening at the La Grange pool. Every member could invite a guest so we reported 19 members and 16 guests attending which included our three adult leaders. Thanks to Wayne Zimmerhanzel, our life guard, of the evening. The water was great and so was the stew our home lodge prepared for our supper following swimming.

Dear Readers, We held our swimming party Sunday, July 8th. All of us enjoyed swimming and, in the evening, we all ate hot dogs furnished by the club and desserts brought by each family.

We were busy all week preparing and cleaning up for the annual picnic. The weather was just right because it wasn't too hot.

Plans have been made for an ice-cream party and going to Six Flags in the near future.

The name picked for the capsule winner was Ronnie Wichkoski; he was not present.

Our paper drive was very successful.

We would like to give a special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Melnar, Mrs. Henry Hermis, Mr. and , Mrs. Martin Kieschnick, Mrs. Rosie Tumis and Mr. Gus Florian for their paper donations to the youth. We will have another paper drive this month.

We had a lot of special guests at our meeting. They were: Dist. V President Norval Crossman, Dist. V Youth Counselor Richard Wahlberg, Mrs. Wahlberg, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Mynar, Mark and Jay Mynar, all from Lodge 88. Please come again.

MOTLOCH, who passed away on May 26th, 1979 in an Austin hospital, at the age of 62 years. He was an assistant foreman with the City of Austin and prior to this, he

was a former Granger businessman.

Brother Mot loch was born 24 December 1916 in Granger and he was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Austin, a member of the KJT and SPJST Lodge No. 20.

Rosary was recited in Condra Memorial Chapel in Taylor on Sunday night and services were conducted on Monday from SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with Rev. George Tylacka officiating. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger.

Surviving are his wife, Agnes from Austin; three sons, Henry E. Motloch of Austin, David L. Motloch of Denver, Colorado and John L. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cyclone, with Rev. C.H. Hotlman officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Cyclone.

A rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Harper-Talasek Funeral Chapel in Temple.

A native of Temple, he was a member of an early east Bell County pioneer family. He served in the Army during WWII and received several campaign medals for his service in the Pacific Theater.

He lived in the Airville and Seaton communities. He also had farmed and worked for the Chupik Corp.

Maintenance Department for 16 years.

Jeji dobrosrdeen9 syn, Josef, ji doopatroval.

Moje Svagrova Agnes byla narozena 15. listopadu 1892 z rodiefi Frank a Marie Pobofil, v osade Seaton v okres Bell v Texas.

Na veenost ji piedeSla jeji matka Marie (divei jmeno, Srnensk9), narozena 17. zafi 1857 obec Leskova, okres Valagske Mezifiei na Morave, Evropa. Tam se provdala za p. Franti g ka Machalka. Z tohoto manielstvi yzeg ly dve dcery, Rozalie (narozena v roku 1881) a Anna (narozena 19. bfezna 1887). Oni se pfistehovali do Texas okolo roku 1890.
