FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK .. Saturday, May 26th your editor attended the annual meeting of CESAT (Czech Ex-Students Association of Texas) at Lodge No. 29, Taylor, Texas.

The attendance was rather small and could be considered disappointing to a certain extent, however, this writer always has an optimistic outlook at life and the future and the fact that approximately 25 rather influential people attended was encouraging to say the least. We always have the attitude that: Rome was not built in a day!

The meeting was conducted in a very efficient way by CESAT President James Mendl who was re-elected tOserve again:and, all in all was constructive. We have pictures of the officers and the attending group and wilI print them in the future issues when possible.

There were not too many officers of our Czech-founded organization present, probably for various reasons, however our SPJST was represented by our SPJST SL Vice-President Bernard Gebala. It was a day well-spent; and I like to feel it will be of benefit to our future of Czech language teaching in our State of Texas. We need more people to get involved.

THE CONSTITUTION OF THE CZECH EX-STUDENTS ASSOCIATION. OF TEXAS (as amended 23 April 1977) AND THE TEXAS COUNCIL FOR HIGHER EDUCATION (This is an English language version of the Czech language version which was officially adopted May 4,k 1941, in Austin, Texas.)

CHAPTER I. NAME AND PURPOSES Article 1. The name of this organization shall be THE CZECH EX-STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS (Spolek Ceskych Ex-Studentu Statu Texas).

Article 2. This organization' shall support and encourage higher education among the Czechs in Texas. This organization shall provide the assistance which will enable Czechs in Texas to pursue arts and music. This organization shall celebrate, record, and preserve for posterity the significant and important events in the cultural progress of the Czechs in Texas ; and, where possible, it shall preserve the records of such events, documents, and materials in a Czech Museum in Texas.

Article 3. Said corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, cultural, educational, . and scientific purposes, ,including, for such purposes, the tnaldrig' of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 (or the corresponding provision of any future United States Internal Revenue Law), ARTICLE 4. Article 1.2. "A person shall become a member of this organization upon payment of the membership dues in the amount of two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) and shall remain a member until the date of the next annual meeting. Membership dues of $1.00 shall be in effect for students.

Membership dues must be renewed and paid prior to the annual meeting.

As evidence of his acceptance, each member shall receive' from the secretary-treasurer a membership card on which the secretary will indicate the year for which the dues have been paid."

Wednesday, June 6, 1979 Article 1.3. "The executive year of this organization shall begin with the election of new officers and committees at the annual meeting and shall end immediately prior to the election of new officers and committees at the following annual meeting."

Article 2.1. It shall be the duty of its members to maintain and support the purposes of this organization. 2. All members shall have the right of participation, they shall have the rights to offer motions, to vote, to hold office, and in general to perform all the duties and obligations which pertain to this organization. All members shall have equal rights in this organization.

Article 3. Each member shall complete a questionnaire in the form determined by this organization. ** ..In the SL Section is a very informative letter from SL FinancialSecretary Jerry Mikulas, Jr. Please read it; it is for our members' information.

Before the contract bid forms for the printing of the Vestnik were sent out, the issue of the Vestnik was discussed by the SL, the PC and your editor. I was asked what I thought the status and number of subscribers would be by the 1980 convention and my estimate was that it may be 14,500 or more. The contract was drawn up: for all copies under 14,000 copies a certain amount and $.50 less for all copies in excess of 14,000.

My records show that it was not until in late 1977 that we finally reached the 14,000 figure. In the early part of 1977 we were in the 13,439-to 13,900 range, so Brother Mikulas quotes savings that are real especially postage plus printing. Quite frankly, as your editor, I was surprised to see so big a drop, however, there will be some adjustments to be made, that is certain; people will request the Vestnik.

However, no one could foresee the increase in postage rates as early as 1976.

SUPREME LODGE

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE SPECIAL NOTICE TO: Lodge No. 7 Caldwell Lodge No. 17 New Tabor Lodge No. 116 Cooks Point Lodge No. 120 Deanville , Dear Members : Based on the desires expressed by some of you and the correspondence with all of you since then, this is notification that we will proceed with the j oint meeting on June 24, 1979 in the New Tabor Hall (home of Lodge 17). The purpose of this meeting is to hear the pros and cons and a detailed explanation of what all is involved in a merger procedure such as is being considered for the four lodges. After the meeting on the 24th, each lodge will then have the opportunity to go back to their members, proceed according to Article 115 of our Society's By-laws, and then vote on whether you are in favor or not of the impending merger.

In the event the reaction is favorable on the part of the four lodges, another meeting would then be held for the purpose of choosing a lodge number, name or designation, and electing officers for the new lodge. Of course, if one of the four lodges votes not to merge and the others do, those can then still proceed with the merger; the decision is up to the members of each lodge.

The meeting on the 24th will commence promptly at 7:30 p.m. I will convene the meeting and answer any questions that anyone may have. In the meantime, please get the word out to all your members about the June 24th meeting.

FROM THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY'S OFFICE Dear Members : This department has recently completed the up-dating of the Vestnik mailing list. All members, I'm sure, would be interested in the results of this project.

There were a total of 14,648 post cards mailed on 4-6-79, giving each recipient 30 days to return their card.

On May 7, 1979 (30-day deadline), there were 9,684 (66 percent) cards returned to our office indicating that they wished to continue receiving the Vestnik. This left approximately 4,964 that were not returned, representing 34 percent of this total.

The purpose of this up-date was due to the increase in postage on 2nd class mail. Below is a breakdown of postage costs illustrating their constant increases: Date Weekly postage increases $373.00 1-1-77 501.00 7-20-77 658.00 5-30-78 933.00 7-11-78 944.00 5-9-79 675.00 5-16-79 On 7-11-78 the postage increased to $933.00 per week. This was brought to the attention of the Supreme Lodge during the October 1978 meeting. At that time the Supreme Lodge decided to implement a plan to up-date our mailing list and assigned my department this responsibility.

Our postage has decreased by $269.00 per week due to this up-date.

This will allow our Society a savings of approximately $13,000.00 per year in postage costs, plus a substantial savings in printing costs.

I wish to thank all those recipients participating in this project. This will allow us to achieve a substantial dollar savings.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a covered dish luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Honored guests will be Mrs. Rosie Stepan, Mrs. Maxie Mikulas and Mrs. Olga Martinec. * * Mrs. Ruby Holly, 87, passed away in the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Taylor.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 1st, from the Porter-Loring Funeral Home in San Antonio, with cremation following. Sister Holly was a longtime member of the SPJST 29, Taylor in 1962. She joined Lodge 29 in December of 1911.

Dear Editor: When many of my friends sent messages and wrote they learned of Alvin's passing on I realized the Vestnik is more attentively read than we think.

So it is through the pages of the Vestnik I wish to express my family's appreciation of the many kind words and deeds as well as prayers of our friends.

Alvin and I have lived SPJST not only in the duties we pursued but in the communication with all we knew. We touched the lives of our friends for only a short interval but if understanding came of these contacts, then surely we have lived in the light of brotherhood.

LODGE NO. 172, PASADENA

Dear Members and Friends : The dance May 5th was a very good, one, with many guests from other organizations, and guests from our surrounding towns, to dance to the beautiful music of Joe Young.

Mary and Chris Holten were a very lovely couple celebrating their wedding anniversary; they had two large tables of guests joining in the merriment of the occasion. Chris and Mary, we all wish you many more happy anniversaries and also to Helen Wallace and Emmett Mullen: Many more happy birthdays !

We also had a very nice couple. from Lodge 88 to visit us on this night.

Laura and Royal Warnasch, come visit with us again. We are always happy to have visitors from other. lodges.

Ben Heinley of Friendswood, who is one of our regulars, along with his lovely wife, Jackie, drew the numbers for our door prizes.

Bill and Lottie Lowe, always at our dances, were most happy this night, because they are proud grandparents of a lovely little granddaughter born Wednesday, May 2nd to Phyliss and Bill Lowe, Jr. of Deer Park. Her name is Elizabeth Grace.

We missed our President Victor Peter and his wife, our financial-secretary Lillia Mae Peter at this dance.

Lillia Mae was in the hospital at that time, but home again now and feeling much better.

May 19th, we had another well-attended dance, with George Machart of Shiner, Texas playing beautiful variety music. Some of our regulars were absent and you missed good music. I realize that all of you cannot always be present, especially at this time of the year, when you hear the call of the seashore and the lure of the lakes, it means vacation time to many of our members and guests. We will be

Three cheers and a great big THANK YOU to Johnny and Esther Mikeska for your generous donation of a "big bottle" to our Entertainment Committee for it to be given away at our dance. We are looking forward to our next dance June 2nd (which will be in the past when this letter will be printed), when all will have a chance to again swing and sway to the music of Joe Young. Always bring your friends and enjoy another great evening at SPJST Lodge 172.

We hope Sister Edna Voldan will soon overcome her ailments. We miss you at our dances and hope you will soon be able to be back. Anyway, belated happy birthday to you, and to each and everyone of you have a HAPPY DAY! Most smiles are started by another smile.

LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE

Dear Members : The monthly meeting of our lodge was held Sunday, May 13, 1979 at the Grant Building. Following the opening of the meeting, Laurie Chudej and Melissa Holy led the members in the pledge to the flag.

Corresponding Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved.

Correspondence followed.

Youth Leader Erwin Holy gave a report on the youth club followed by Treasurer Gaye Galetka who presented her report.

Refund checks were given out and the meeting adjourned.

The youth club then presented a Mother's Day program that consisted of a poem by Laurie Chudej and a song by the youth club. The mothers were remembered with corsages, and a Mother's Day prize was won by Gaye Galetka..

Refreshments and lunch were served and enjoyed by all present.

Our next meeting will be held Sunday, June 10 at the Grant Bldg., beginning at 2 p.m. The fathers will be honored along with the June birthdays.

[MIDGE NO. 156, BAYTOWN

Dear Members : Lodge No. 156 of Baytown met May 21st at 7 p.m. at Newby's Restaurant with seventeen members and two guests present. We are glad to have Ellen and Ben Pyle back with us here in Baytown.

We have a new member, Karen Elizabeth Buchta, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hrabina.

We opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag, read the minutes from the last meeting and had the financial report.

We discussed having our next meeting September 17th at the home of Jo Ann and Jerry Vajacek.

The meeting was adjourned.

who is in the Rest Home in Taylor is doing about the same.

Brother Jaroslav Kleprlik reported that he was going to be admitted to the hospital Monday, May 21st and will be operated on Tuesday. Brother Kleprlik has had a serious operation on his hip almost a year ago, and he is going to have a correction on the same hip. It has been a very painful time for Jarka, and we all hope that this operation will correct the problem. The membership is with you all the way, Jarko. We are also confident that you will be yourself once again and we will miss you at the meetings for a while.

Some discussion was held on the correspondence for the month of May. Brother Netek also reported that Brother President Matula and he will be going to the Supreme Lodge Headquarters for a meeting with the officers on July 16th. The trip will be made to discuss further the coming convention which will be held in San Antonio on June 9th, 1980.

Once again we want to remind our members in San Antonio, to come to the regular monthly meetings which are held on every third Sunday of the month at 1505 South Gevers St. in San Antonio. Although our attendance has increased, we have many members whom we would like to see at our meetings.

LODGE NO. 133, SAN ANTONIO

32, VICTORIA SPJST FESTIVAL PLANNED

Dear Members and Friends: San Antonio Lodge No. 133 held their regular monthly meeting Sunday, May 20th at the hall located at 1505 S. Gevers Street.

The meeting was called to order by Brother Dominic Netek (who was acting as president ), in the absence of President. Emil Matula who had to leave town on an emergency call.

Brother Netek also led the membership in the pledge of allegiance.

Brother Dominic Netek then appointed Sister Viola Fajkus as acting secretary for the meeting, also Brother James Kostelnik was appointed as acting vice president.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and there were no corrections. The minutes were accepted as read.

Sister Viola Mazac gave the treasurer's report. It was also accepted as read.

It was reported that Sister Mildred Strobel was out of the hospital and is doing fine at home. Also, Sister Holy

Dear Members: The second annual Czech Festival of Victoria has been set for Sunday, June 24th, at 1 p.m. It will be held at the Community Center, 2905 East North Street in Victoria.

There will be entertainment provided for everyone throughout the day.

The Victoria Czech Singers and the Gulf Coast Singers of Ganado will' sing.

For recreation there will be an auction, country store, and cake walk held. You will also enjoy delicious, kolache and barbecue sandwiches to eat, and a beer garden.

Dear Members and Guests : We had our home band, the Crockett Westerneers, furnish our dancing fans good entertainment. We had a good crowd with a good many members from Lovelady area: Joe Frank Driskell's family, the Stewart family plus others who hadn't been with us for some time. Come and have a good time!

We are steadily having more good people joining our SPJST Society. I haven't been reporting new members' names joining, but since I haven't much to report, I will report the names of the applicants for the month of May. They are: Aryn Paige Driskell, Darlene Brown, Steve Wayne Walton, Sherame Leane Stanley, Donald R. Comeaux and Charlotte A. Comeaux, all of Crockett; Terrie Lynn Solman of Elkhart, Sherry Lynn Dudley of Latexo, Ernest Edgar Walling of Radcliff and Jack R. Irish, Millicent Irish, Shirley A. Hodge, Oliver Jefferson Hodge and John Dale Tyer, 'all of Lufkin.

Four of the ones named are not signed to our Lodge No. 74 in Lovelady because they may form themselves their own lodge. The people are in Ltifkin, Texas and have not yet decided whether or not they want a lodge, so until they want a lodge and tmtil they decide, the Supreme Lodge will handle the business part of their insurance.

We hope the best of luck to those wonderful people of Lufkin. They have a good Polka Club there and they have Richard Bewin as the polka dancing instructor there. After having a nice visit with him, he mentioned whether or not any of you would be interested in having polka lessons here at our Lodge 74. If you do, let it be known.

We had Brother Bill McInnis ill but he is doing OK now. Those of you who are ill, get well and come be with us every Thursday night for the games plus at our Saturday night dances.

SPJST LODGE NO. 79 and SOKOL CORPUS CHRISTI

Dear Members : A reminder that the June meeting of Lodge 79 will be held Sunday, June 17th at 2 p.m. at the SPJST Hall, 5502 Kostoryz Road.

The meeting has been changed from Thursday to Sunday afternoon for the second Sunday, but the hall has a battle dance scheduled for June 10th, so the meeting for June only is changed to the third, Sunday, which is June 17th.

The Sokol meeting will be held on the

second Thursday, June 14th at 7 p.m. at the hall. The Sokols have not changed their meeting date.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON

The Knights of Dixie music entertained our dancing guests Saturday, May 26th and, as usual, everyone present enjoyed the evening to satisfaction. The attendance was not overwhelming, but fair. Summertime is here and, as every year, people will go out in the open and enjoy the weather as long as their gasoline will hold out: so far I have not heard anyone say "I ran out of gas" but the lines at filling stations are alarming.

The Hosting Committee for the evening included Orlando Richards in charge of the night and attending the box office and his wife Era, a gracious hostess greeted the guests: assisting her was Elsie Case. Tony and Annie Braaton, a lovely couple, admitted the guests to the Ballroom.

Thirty-two years of married bliss was celebrated with a full table of friends surrounding the happy couple, Brother Alphons and Sister Ernestine Klam; they were united in wedded bliss May 24th in Fort Worth, Texas, 32 years ago in 1947. These two lovely people are proud of their two sons : David, who is married to Dianne and Frankie, who is married to Carolee and they presented their parents, up to .now, with two grandsons, Josef, age 6 and Jason, age 4 the pride of Alphons and Ernestine. Congratulations !

At Table 7, Brother John and Sister Bessie Vasula celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary among their loyal friends. They were married May 25th, 1942 and both are ardent supporters of Lodge No. 88. There are very few dances they miss and Bessie is also a Birthday Club Sister. These two lovely people reared three daughters: Marelynn is married to Jerry McAllen, Geynelle is married to Bill Walters and Jeanette is married to Wayne Stork. To keep them busy, grandson Terry, age 6 and granddaughter Jennifer, also age 6, make their lives full of surprises. For this occasion Bessie and John were treated to a special celebration at the Cattle Rustlers Restaurant for their 37th wedding anniversary. Sister Caroline Oddo, a regular at Table 8, has a scirr, Bernard, whose wedding took place May 20th to Miss Michell Mascara in the Annunciation Catholic Church with reception following.

Becky Miksch, the granddaughter of Joe and Della Miksch, made her grandparents very proud and happy; she graduated the 8th grade from the Our Savior Lutheran School scoring 85 percent and won a trophy for all-around sports. Becky is a lovely young lady and will go far.

Congratulations to a successful future!

Another set of parents Noel and Wanda Kennedy are pleased and happy with two of their children graduating this year : son John graduating from Waltrip Senior High receiving an outstanding Student Award, and daughter Jody graduated from University of Texas as a registered Dentist Hygienist and the third highest in her class and was accepted into Sigma Phi Delta Honor Society. To top it all off, Jody accepted a beautiful Marquise Diamond engagement from her fiance, Ronnie Bennett.

It seems there will be plans made by the proud parents for a wedding in the future. Best wishes to John, Jody and Ronnie for a happy and successful future.

Dear Brothers and Sisters : Thursday night, May 17th, we played our first game in the Richardson League against the Carrolton team and we won by a score of 9 to 1. Roy Andrews was the winning pitcher allowing 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 15 batters in an outstanding performance on the mound.

Leading hitters were Randy Christian with four singles, Don Jarma with a triple and 2 singles ; Roy Andrews, a

double, a single and a sacrifice; Rick Fountain, 2 singles and a sacrifice; Kerry Goad, a double and a single; Dan Palm, a single and a walk; Jeff Burton, a double and a sacrifice; Kenny Skierski, a single, a walk and a sacrifice and Joe Horasta made a sacrifice.

Our May 22nd game at Samuel Grand was again rained out in our Dallas League.

Thursday night, May 24th, we played the Richardson Heights team and we lost by a score of 4 to 2 in a real good game. Roy Andrews pitched this game allowing 6 hits, no walks and 5 strikeouts , and only 2 of the 4 runs allowed were earned.

Leading hitters were Don Jarma with a double and 2 singles, Randy Christian earned a double, Danny Yates made a single, Jeff Burton, a single and Rick Fountain made a single hit. We could have won the game as easily as we lost it.

Friday night, May 25th, at 8:30 p.m., we opened play in the Richardson Memorial Weekend Tournament with a 3 to 1 win over Charlie's from Dallas.

Roy Andrews was the winning pitcher allowing 5 hits, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts in another outstanding performance on the mound.

Leading hitters included Roy Andrews with 2 singles ; Don Jarma, a double; Danny Yates with a double; Jeff Burton made a single hit and a sacrifice; Rick Fountain, a single ; Danny Seed with a single and Dan Palm had a sacrifice.

By winning our first game, we played again Saturday morning, May 26th at 11:30 a.m. against Zip's Paint from Dallas and we won our second game by a score of 3 to 1. Roy Andrews was the winning pitcher allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts in another sparkling performance and he received errorless support afield from his teammates.

Leading hitters were Kenny Skierski with a single and a walk; Don Jarma, a double; Randy Christian, a single; Danny Yates with a single; Jeff Burton, a single; Rick Fountain, a double and Joe Horasta with a single.

After the game the team members, their wives and families all had a picnic lunch of a delicious Columbia ham cooked by Carlyn Ondrusek and our thanks to Willie and Carlyn for the ham. We also had tea, pivo, softdrinks, chips, etc. and cookies. It was a real fun get-together before the next game at 2:30 p.m.

We played a team from Denton, the First Baptist team, and we 1d8t a close ball game by a score of 3 to 2. Lionel

Schulz, our other pitcher, wasn't with us at the tournament because he, Ida and family were on vacation at Ruidosa, New Mexico; also we had a couple of our players missing due to inj uries (wish you could have been present). Roy Andrews' arm was too sore to pitch, so we let Danny Yates, our catcher, take a try at pitching and he turned in a very fine performance allowing 6 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts plus he also received errorless support afield from his teammates.

Leading hitters included Dan Palm with a double and 2 singles ; Randy Christian with a single and a sacrifice; Don Jarma, a single; Danny Yates had 2 walks ; Kenny Skierski earned a single and Kerry Goad made a sacrifice hit. This being a double elimination tournament, we had to come back for a 7 p.m. game; some had 3 hours to rest and eat a snack before game time.

At 7 p.m. we had to play Hendrix Mirror and Glass and we lost a thriller by .a score of 2 to 1 and thus we were eliminated from the tournament, but we did finish in 6th place; not too bad considering we were missing so many of our players for various reasons.

Roy Andrews was again on the mound, his third game and he turned in another sparkling performance allowing 2 runs, 5 hits, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. The team played near errorless ball; only one error was charged and no one scored on the miscue. It was an outstanding effort turned in by all of the team members and great pitching by Roy Andrews and a fine effort by Danny Yates. I am very proud of the team and all of the followers and fans feel the same way I do. It was a most enjoyable tournament and the team can be proud of its record.

Leading hitters for the, game were Dan -Paim, 2 singles and a walk and Danny Yates with a single hit. If we could have gotten 2 or 3 timely hits, we would have easily won this game and then we would have had a 10 a.m. game Sunday morning.

Our Tuesday, May 29th game was rained out and prospects for our Thursday night, May 31st game are not too good because it's been raining and more forecast of rain.

The weekend of June 1st, 2nd and 3rd, we were scheduled to play in the Big D Tournament at Kiest Park in.

Dallas, weather permitting.

Tuesday, June 5th, we also were scheduled to play a game at the Samuel Diamond at 9:30 p.m., and Tuesday, June 12th at 6:30 p.m. again

8 at Sam Grand.

Thursday, June 7th at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 14th at 9 p.m., we play games at Huffhines Park in Richardson. Come out to the games when you can; we are having lots of fun, do come!

THE TANNICH-BROVEC FAMILY

REUNION WAS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT The thirteen annual Tannich-Brovec family reunion was held at the New Taiton Hall in New Taiton, May 20th, 1979.

At 12 noon approximately eighty descendants enjoyed a covered dish dinner.

President John Horak called the meeting to order with his present officers : Vice President Joe Sekerka, Secretary and Treasurer Evelyn Juracka and Molly Rabbe, Reporter Esther Ulbrich, and Entertainment Chairman Leroy Perterson.

Minutes of the twelfth TannichBrovec reunion were read by Evelyn Juracka and they were approved as read.

The election of officers was then held for the coming year. Those elected to serve are: President Joe Sekerka, Vice President Molly Rabbe, Secretary-Treasurer Evelyn Juracka and Betty Joe Bartosh as her co-secretary-treasurer, Reporter Esther Ulbrich and Entertainment Chairman Leroy Perterson.

The fourteenth annual Tannich-Brovec reunion will be held May 18th, 1980 at the New Taiton Hall in New Taiton.

Members, please pass the word around so that everyone can make plans to attend, because we do not send out cards ; you are invited through the newspapers only. We mail out cards to the ones who live out-of-state. The reunion will start at 11 a.m., instead of 10 a.m., May 18th, 1980.

Bertha Ulbrich, age 91, was the oldest member in attendance; others were Jason Gibson, 29-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gibson, and Teana Armatta and Tina Tannich of Albany, Oregan were the ones who travelled the fartherest distance.

Each honored attendant received a gift and the meeting was then adjourned.

Entertainment Chairman Leroy Perterson'took over the remainder of the evening with entertainment in which everyone had a good time playing games while others enjoyed

visiting with each other.

SPJST MEMBER RECEIVES EAGLE SCOUT MEDAL Recently Frank Bob Vrla III was awarded the medal of Eagle Scout at a reception given by Troop 43 of St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

Over one hundred relatives, friends and businessmen attended the presentation.

Among the many charitable proj ects, Frank has contributed to the guidance of the less fortunate boys of our community. He has served his

House Appreciation--State Representative Brother Dan Kubiak of Rockdale here receives a gavel from Speaker of the Texas House Bill Clayton. The gavel was presented to Rep. Kubiak for his work as Vice Chairman for appropriative matters of the Committee on Agriculture and Livestock during the 66th Session of the State Legislature. Clayton called the session a success for the people of Texas and credited Rep. Kubiak for his assistance in the House. troop as patrol leader and j unior assistant scoutmaster for the past 7 years.

Frank is a member of the Order of the Arrow and has attended Golden Acorn, a leadership training program.

His other activities include the National Junior Honor Society, Lake Highlands Wrestling Team, Band and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

At the present he is a member of the.

Czechmates Polka Band of the surrounding area.

Frank Bob Vrla III is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frankie B. Vrla of Dallas.

He has two brothers Darrell, a j unior at North Texas State University majoring in Accounting and David Vrla, a 1977 Honor Graduate of Texas A&M University.

Frank is a graduate of Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, and he is enrolled at Texas A&M University for the fall semester majoring in Engineering.

The Vrla boys were all active members in the Lodge 84 Youth Club in the pre-teens, also they had attended Camp Val Verde several times.

DIANE KOCIAN AND DONNY MAREK EXCHANGE VOWS Miss Diane Kocian and Donny Joe Marek were united in marriage Sunday, March 25th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rockdale.

Rev. Paul McCallum officiated at the double ring ceremony. Commentator was Dr. A.A. Urban of Rockdale.

Altar boys were Richard Kocian and Ronald Kocian, cousins of the bride.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Kocian of Rockdale and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin F. Marek of Cameron.

Wedding music was provided by Miss Roxanne Hromick and soloist was Mrs. Imelda Hromick, both of Rockdale.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a formal gown of silk organza. Pearled venice lace formed the empire bodice with a Queen Ann neckline. The Bishop sleeves ended with lace covered cuffs. At the back bodice a full ruffled lace train flowed.

A pearled lace coif held a lace-edged, tiered fingertip veil. The bride carried a bouquet of white silk roses, with white ribbon and pearl tied in love knots.

Before the bride and her father entered, the ushers Richard Trubee of Cameron and Larry Stzlecha of Houston, rolled out a white carpet for the bride to enter upon, as the bride joined the groom at the altar, they knelt under a gold arch with love birds on top.

Serving as maid of honor was Debbie Kocian, cousin of the bride, of Rockdale.

Bridesmaids were Beverly Marek, sister of the groom, Charlotte Kloss of

Groomsmen included Mark Hopcus of Bryan, Rodney Marek of Cameron, James Kloss of Bremond, David Kubiak of Cameron and Andy Stermer of Cyclone.

Ring bearer was Robert Glaser III of Henderson.

was held at the SPJST Flag Hall at Cyclone. After dinner music was provided by the Vrazel Polka Band.

ceremonies in the Taylor Brethren Church with the groom's uncle, the Rev. Melvin Clearman, officiating.

Mrs. Wilma Johnson and Mrs. Marcy Lytle were organists and Miss Annette Johnson was soloist.

Decorations in the church were in blue and white with an arrangement of carnations centering the altar.

Miss Zina Murfin was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Mrs. Brenda Teggeman and Miss Loretta Zimmerhanzel with Paula Wuensche as flower girl. Their gowns were of light blue crepe with floral capes. Their blue picture hats were trimmed with silk flowers and each carried an arrangement of carnations and mini-mums.

The groom's father was his best man. Groomsmen were the groom's brother, Mac Clearman, and Keith Ferguson. Ring bearer was Kernan Homburg. Candlelighters were Robin Clearman and Martin Clearman, also brothers of the groom.

The bride, who entered with her father, had designed her own dress of sheer organza, lined with satin. Lace was used for the stand-up collar, the yoke and the long sleeves. Lace also outlined the hem of the skirt and the medium length train. A band of lace held the three-tier veil that fell to elbow length. She carried an arrangement of white carnations and ivy.

Following the wedding rites, a reception was held in the fellowship hall of the church. The bride is a graduate of Taylor High School and attended Southwest Texas State University. She is a secretary for the Governor's Division of Disaster Emergency Services. The groom is a graduate of West Lake High School. He is a masonry contractor.

The couple makes their home in Austin at present.

SUSAN REZNIK AND JOE TYE ARE WED

Miss Susan Marie Reznik and Mr. Joe Boyd Tye were married at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Rev. Douglas Deshotdi officiating.

The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. George Reznik and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Tye. .

For her formal attire, the bride chose a chiffon and Chantilly lace with empire waist and Queen Ann neckline. Her bodice was accented with pearls and Chantilly lace. The sleeves were lace with wide cuffs. The skirt was A-line with three tiers of ruffles edged with wide Chantilly lace and attached chapel train. Her cathedral length veil was outlined with matching Chantilly lace and the headpiece band covered with Chantilly lace accented with a satin bow.

The groom wore a white tpxedo.

Miss Peggy Janecka was maid of honor and Mr. Bill Tye, brother of the

groom, was best man.

The bridesmaids' formals were dressed in lavender and the groomsmen were dressed in black tuxedos.

The flower girl was attired in white and the ring bearer wore a black tuxedo.

The mother of the bride selected a mint green long dress and the groom's mother chose an aqua dress.

A reception and dance, featuring Gary Lee, was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on East Northwest Highway.

The bride is employed with the Blue Cross Insurance Company in Dallas.

The groom is employed at Johnson Electric Company, also in Dallas.

Following their honeymoon trip to San Antonio and Mexico, the couple is making their home in Elm Mott.

Patricia is a member of Lodge No. 66, Waco and has participated in numerous youth club activities, including Youth Achievement Days where she has won in group talent and arts and crafts entries on state level.

Mrs. Paul Michael Neslony Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. The Rev. Gene Shepard performed the double-ring ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Stanislav of West and Mr. and Mrs. Joe A. Neslony of Lacy-Lakeview.

The bride wore an original design bridal gown of organza and Chantilly lace. The natural waistline, Queen Ann neckline was accented with jeweled lace appliques. The lorig sheer sleeves were trimmed and cuffed in lace. The full bouffant skirt had a ruffle bustle back and swept into a chapel train.

Her layered illusion veil was edged in matching lace and was held by a lace and jeweled hat.

For her arrangement the bride carried a bouquet of yellow roses with white baby's breath intertwined with yellow and white ribbon. She also

carried her mother's rosary which she had carried in her wedding.

Serving as Matron of Honor was Mrs. Valencia Machovsky of Waco.

Miss Kathleen Kelly of West was Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids included Miss Janice and Miss Donna Stanislav, sisters of the bride; Miss Margie Pavlicek of West, Miss Francene Busch, Mrs. Carolyn Munn, Mrs. Debbie Ivy, all of Waco, and Mrs. Mary Jordan of Houston, sister of the groom.

The bridesmaids were attired in high-waisted gowns of green, apricot and yellow with sheer overbodices accented by a sheer capelet. Each attendant wore a carnation in her hair.

Their bouquets were of carnations accented with matching colors.

Recently several honors were captured by athletic players from Wharton County Junior College for their outstanding performance during their sport's season.

The awards were made during their annual WCJC Booster Club All-Sports Banquet held in Wharton Monday.

Among one of the outs tanding athletes was Pioneer defensive linebacker Glenn Kahanek of El Campo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin J. Kahanek of the Taiton community, who was presented with the Most Valuable Player football award by new Pioneer head football coach Carman Bonner who noted, "...And the good part about this award is the Chopper is just a freshman."

Glenn is also widely-known in SPJST District VI for his past youth club activities at Lodge No. 30 in Taiton. He has held every office in the club and has won numerous district and state awards at the Youth Achievement Days.

His sister, Karen Kahanek is serving her second year as 'president of Lodge No. 30 Youth Club.

Miss Cynthia Ann Banik, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert L. Banik of West, received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Baylor University May 18th in a very impressive commencement session at the Heart of Texas Coliseum in Waco, Texas.

May 16th, Cynthia's mother, Mrs. Rosemarie Banik and grandmother, Mrs. William Rauschuber accompanied Cynthia to Dallas to attend the Pinning Banquet held at the Brookhaven Country Club. Cynthia, along with 101 nursing graduates, received her BU Nursing pin that night.

Attending the graduation at Waco were: her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert L. Banik; brothers, Eddie and Darrin Banik; sisters, Denise McCauley and Charlotte Banik; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Rauschuber; her great-grandmother, Mrs. Frank Girard; her godmother, Mrs. Bennie Hessel, and Mr. Joe Dunlop from Mount Calm.

Cynthia Ann is employed at the Hillcrest Hospital in Waco in the Coronary Care Unit.

Cynthia and her family are very active members of Lodge No. 35 in Elk. She held several offices in the local and district youth club, levels, has won several first places in State YAD competition, and is a past SPJST District III Queen.

Troj acek, Lodge No. 25, Ennis, was the recipient of a scholarship from the Ennis Business and Professional Women's Club. The scholarship is awarded to a member of the Nike Club showing community and school service and scholastic achievement.

Nevalynn Jo was graduated from St. John High School in Ennis on May 16, 1979. During her high school years, she has been quite active in school and class activities. She has served as

Gayle Motal has been named Valedictorian of the 1979 graduating class of St. Joseph's High School in Victoria.

She was a member of the Flyer Marching Band for four years, participated in the stage band for three years, served as drum maj orette during her junior and senior years, and received the Marching Bandsman of the Year award in both her sophomore and senior years, also in Who's Who in Music and Who's Who Among American High School Students. She served as head twirler during her senior year.

In addition to her other school activities, she served as vice president of her freshman class, secretary in her sophomore class and vice president of the junior class.

She is a three-year member of the National Honor Society, a member of Explorer Career Club and a treasurer of Future Teachers of America.

From The Lodge Youth Leaders LODGE NO. 74, LOVELADY Dear Members and Friends: We had a real good turnout for our disco dance. Disco Dick had added a few extras since-the-last time he presented the program. Everyone there seemed to have a real nice time. Everyone has asked us when we are going to have another. one, so we have booked Disco Dick again for June 29th. We hope we have a lot more to attend the next time.

We had a smaller attendance at the last social game. It may have been due to the weather or the holiday but we hope that we have more to attend the next one.

The youth will decide at our next meeting when they want to go ice-skating. Our next meeting was scheduled for June 5th at 7 p.m.

I guess all the kids are looking forward to school being out for the summer. Crockett doesn't dismiss school until Friday, May 31st but most of the other schools have already let out Tor the summer. I hope they all have furi for the summer. I hoge they all have

fun and remember all the safety rules most were taught in school, especially the ones regarding in swimming.

LODGE NO. 179, WARRENTON Dear Readers, Prompto Sunday morning, May 27th, the youth from the Warrenton Lodge 179 left for a day in Austin.

First on the agenda was the airport.

After watching several planes arrive and depart, they checked on the plane they were to tour but due to mechanical problems, the aircraft was still closed.

Next was the tour of the LBJ Library.

A special cartoon section was on display which was especially delightful. For dinner we attended the Country Dinner Playhouse which was presenting Fiddler On The Roof. This was most enjoyable and the first time for most of us to see a professional musical play.

17 North Cross• Mall and ice-skating were supposed to be next, but, due to the fact that we found the ice rink still closed for repair, we went to the park instead; there we tried to let the smaller children run-off their excess energy while we enjoyed refreshments and snacks before returning home.

It was a very busy and exciting day.

We all agreed that it was a great day and, come August, we will again make an attempt to go ice-skating.

18 UNCORRECTED MINUTES OF APRIL 29th SPRING DISTRICT HI YOUTH CLUB MEETING AT LODGE 66, WACO Dear Readers, President Charlotte Banik called the 1979 spring meeting to order at approximately 11 a.m. April 29th at Lodge 66, Waco.

Former Secretary David Dobecka was called on to read the minutes of the previous meeting, which was held in the fall of 1978. There being no corrections or additions, they were approved as read.

Next on the agenda was the roll call of lodges. They were as follows : Leaders Youth Lodge 2 10 6 0 0 25 1 4 35 0 0 54 6 5 66 2 0 84 0 92 0 1 130 0 0 135 0 0 154 0 0 178 0 DYC Ed Kamas gave a report on the money situation in District III. He reported approximately $900 in the savings and also reported on the summer camp fund which appeared to be in stable. shape.

The SPJST State Queen and Duchess were recognized at the meeting. They are. Tena Urbanek and Donna Stanislav, both from District III and members of Lodge 66, Waco. We are very proud of these two fine young ladies!

Next on the agenda, we discussed our 1979 charity project. Steven Stanislav made a motion to send the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home a $100 donation RI 'memory of Brother Alvin Nesuda.

This .motion was seconded by Tena Urbanek and passed by a majority vote.

The results of the spring ecology Roster were announced during the meeting. The winners were Lodges 6 and 66. Eddie Banik made the motion that we continue the poster contest for next fall. This motion was followed by a second and then approved. The new poster topic was decided to be based on energy.

We then discussed a planned summer activity. A motion was made

by Damen liptmor and seconded by Damn tsanik to leave thi g decision up to the co-ordinators of the north and south. This motion passed by a majority vote.

The youth club then elected new

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 29, at 3:30 p.m. in the Keever Chapel with Rev. Harold Burns, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. The eulogy was given by Nick Morris of Temple, president of the Supreme Lodge of the SPJST. Interment was in Myrtle Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers : Milton Nesuda, Emil Nesuda, Jr., David Nesuda, Bill Reeves, all of Dallas, Hugo Kocian of Longview and Bernie Gebala of Temple.

Brother Nesuda was born in Ennis August 12, 1911, the son of William and Anna Haskovec Nesuda. He was reared in Ennis and was graduated from Ennis High School and the Byrne Commercial College in Dallas. March 19, 1933, he was married to Miss Wilma Haskovec of Ennis and they continued to make their home in Ennis. Brother Nesuda was an employee of the First National Bank in Dallas, retiring in 1973.

Brother Nesuda was a member of Lodge 25 for 46 years. He was a very active member having held various offices including the presidency and served on numerous committees. For the past three years, he did organizational work for the three most recently established lodges in Burleson, Longview, and Mid-Cities. At the time of his death, he was secretary of Lodge 25, which he held for the past seven years, and District III sales representative since 1970. He was a

Wednesday, June 6, 1979 past president of the Cattlemen's Association, member of IOOF Lodge 227 in Ennis, Kiwanis Club, WFLA in Dallas, district councilman for the Cattlemen's Association and the First United Methodist Church.

ITEMS QF INTRF1 KUBIAK'S REP0111 Dan Kubiak Those of you who follow the media reports know the Legislature took a chaotic turn last week when a dozen liberal senators, dubbed the "Killer Bees," walked out of the chamber in opposition to a proposed split presidential primary bill.

The walkout prevented a quorum and delayed a vote on the split primary bill. The senators made this fatigue move after Lt. Gov. Bill Hobby changed the rules to require only a simple majority vote to pass the bill.

The senators, who remained absent for five days, claimed the bill was written to allow crossover voting for the benefit of Republican presidential candidate John Connally.

The walkout brought Senate action almost to a standstill and left House members uncertain of the fate of their own bills. Although the House recovered rather quickly from the initial confusion, we nevertheless were reminded how difficult it is to conduct a bicameral legislature when one chamber is missing.

Gasohol Close to Final Approval: Progress on our gasohol bill, 11B 1986, was slowed somewhat in the Senate, because of the walkout, but expect the-Senate to approve it shortly after this article goes to press. The bill has been amended to strengthen prohibitions of production of beverage quality alcohol, and will be returned to the House for final approval.

Home Mortgage Rate Ceiling Raised: On Tuesday the House voted 92-41 to raise the ceiling to 12 percent for rates on home mortgages. Many lending and building institutions have urged that the ceiling be lifted because of the tight money situation in Texas. As a builder, 1 am extremely aware that home buyers are having a hard time finding available mortgage money, but I also know that few of them will be able to afford the increased price for a new home. .1 finally voted . against raising the ceiling because the bill would not allow home buyers to refinance their mortgages when the

Viditelnost ostatnich souhvezdi zavisi na poloze slunce k ekliptice, t.j. na roCni dobe i na hodine, kdy pozorujeme oblohu, po ktere se slunce zdanlive pohybuje mezi hvezdami. A v blizkosti tohoto kruhu se pohybuji planety i mesic.

Pro zajimavost je gte k to vzcialenosti k souhvezdi BYka-Taurus nejjasnej gi z hvezd v to skupine - Aldebara, je od nas vzdalena 57 svetelnych 'let. Bratr Dominik Netek *Ceti doporueeni bratra Emila E. Matuly, pfedsedy nageho faclu, tYkajici se potfebneho zafizeni pro bliziei se sjezd SPJST k uvaIeni. Po kratke rozmluve sestra Viola Mazaeova podala navrh, kterY podporoval bratr Alfred Kalmus, aby bylo zafizeno a uhrazemo vie Ceho bude tfeba. Navrh byl jednohlasne pfijet.

Bratr Dominik Netek znovu poiadal pfitonme, aby svoje pfipominky pro stanovy SPJST poslali yeas k jeho rukam k dalgimu jednani. Sestra Marcella M. Kleprlikova rozpfedla debatu o tigteni broiurek pro sjezd, zadavani oznamek a t.d. Bratr Dominik Netek kratce sdelil, ze to maji v evidenci, budou pro vgechno vYbory, na vgechno bude pamatovano.

Josefem BeCanem na festivalu v Ennis, tak me fekl, ze doma ma elanek, kte0 sepsala jeho madelka a ie me ho Ogle.

Toto bylo napsano anglicky a ja to pfeld'ila a dnes to zde udavam jako vzpominku na milou a dobrou dugi, kterou jsem znala mnoho let a mela rada vidycky. Pi. Beeanova byla rozena v male vesniece na Morave jako devata z jedenacti deti--8 deveat a 3 ho gi. Kdyi ji bylo 12 let tak odesla z domova aby se mohla zivit. Mela jen obecnou skolu, a kdyi ji bylo 16 let tak se pustila do nagi Ameriky. Phstala v Galvestonu a odtud jela do Ennis nebot' tam mela sestru pi.

Winklerovou, kde byla neco pies rok a pak se pustila do Ft. Worth, kde pak pracovala v domacnosti. Za kratko se seznamila se svYm budoucim madelem a v srpnu 1917 se za nej provdala. Tehdy madel pracoval v Dallas a tedy zde d do 1930, kdy se vratili zpet do Ft. Worth.

Dnegni jmeno CESAT (Czech Ex-Students Association of Texas neboli Spolek Ceskgch Ex-studenta Stith Texas) bylo pfijato v pfepracovanjTch pravidlech, ktere byly vytigteny v Ceskem jazyce v roce 1941. Struene feeeno: Spolek CESAT byl zaloien k zachovani Ceske feei , i kultury a k podpofe vzdelani nadanjrch student eeskeho pfivodu tim pak k prospechu na gi krajanske vetve. Tento Spolek pinil sve poslani 45 let, v letech 1954 ai 1974 vgak - hlavne pro nezajem - tamer pfestal existovat.

Rekonstrukce (obnoveni anebo znovuzahajeni Cinnosti) CESAT, na ktere ma Ivi podil pfedergim profesor Calvin Cervenka, navazovala na obnoveni, po vic jak 20 lete pfestavee, vyuCovani Ceskeho jazyka na Universite Houston (vOedek prace pisatele techto fadkfi) v roce 1973 a na zahajeni ye stejnem roce studii ee gtiny pro nage studenty z Texasu na Karlove Universite v Praze. (Vjrsledek prace bratfi Skfivankfi, oblibeneho profesora Josefa a zesnuleho jiz doktora Jana.) CESAT od rekonstrukce opet pracuje v ramci pavodniho programu; k dal gimu rozvoji je nam vgak potfebi novgch sil k zachovani eeskeho jazyka a k rosgifeni eeskeho gkolstvi!

Nfirodni divadlo Narodni divadlo v Praze patfi mezi nejvindenej gi kulturni instituce v Ceskoslovensku, Vznikalo ze sbirek vgech vrstev naroda a z vefejnjrch dotaci.

Kdyi roku 1881 jiz tamer dokoneena budova vyhofela, byla znovu nesmirnou obetavosti lidu postaveny do dvou let znovu. Na jeho qstavbe a vjrzdobe se podileli nejpfednergi architekti, sochafi a malifi doby. Hrat v tomto divadle bylo vzdy nejvetgi poctou vgem umelcum.

V soueasne dobe je budova Narodniho divadla ye velkoryse celkove rekonstrukci, aby v pinem lesku mohlo roku 1983 oslavit 100. vjrroei sveho otevfeni. zachovani v gech kulturne historickgch hodnot bude modernizovano technicke vybaveni jevigte i hledigte, pfistaveny nova zkugebni saly a provozni mistnosti.

Umeleckjr soubor Narodniho divadla v soueasnosti hraje na svjrch dalgich scenach. Ve Smetanove a Tylove divadle a na scene Laterny magiky, ktera je experimentalni scenou Narodniho divadla. Vedle es. klasika a soueasngch autora, jsou v repertoaru v gech soubory Narodniho divadla dila mnoha svetovgch autora. Provoz Narodniho divadla nema skutdene na celem svete obdoby, protoie se hraje prakticky denne i v sobotu a nedeli 2x.
