FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK ..1n this editorial attempt we have to, in the first place, try to offer an explanation which we feel is due our members and readers; of course, these do happen to everyone of us in the walk down the pathway of life. It so happened that, out of a clear blue sky, we became the recipient of a bad roll of film on which the pictures of the District IV SR banquet and, also, their meeting were taken plus the pictures of the District 111 meeting at Lodge No. 66, Elm Mott one week later. The pictures in the last issue, May 9th, were poor and the pictures of the District Ill meeting held Sunday, April 29th are even worse; we have held them up in an effort to try to bring out the contrast in black and white in the film. We will just have to "wait and see." Yes, as an army buddy used to say, in any occasion: "that could happen even to a married man!" It did! We will have to wait and see what develops; we, quite naturally, cannot help these failures in chemistry and technology and regret the consequences caused by them. .. With this issue dated May 16, 1979 the Vestnik is being delivered to only those of you our members and readers who have returned the prepaid postcard which had been sent to you from the Supreme Lodge by SL Financial Secretary's department by Br. Jerry Mikulas, Jr. If you had not returned the card then your name was automatically taken off of the mailing list. If there are any members who
WHAT IS CHARITY? It's silence when your words would hurt, It's patience when your neighbor's curt, It's deafness when the scandal flows, It's thoughtfulness for another's woes; It's promptness when stern duty calls, It's courage when misfortune falls. Give thought the above my friends; You will be better off when your own life ends. know of someone who wants the Vest nik sent to them, please notify (or tell them to notify) the Supreme Lodge, P. O. Box 100, Temple, Texas 76501 directly; please save time and do not write our office at P. O. Box 85, West, Tx. This will only delay the processing of your request or complaint ; we thank you for your kind attention to this now and at any time. ** .. There was a time when our SPJST Society in the State of Texas and, yes, the US, was very little known. If the question SPJST and other fraternal benefit societies was ever brought up in Austin and/or Washington, there probably was a lifting of an eyebrow, here or there, and somebody would inquire: "Who are they?" That has changed very significantly in recent years and rightfully so. So many of our state and national representatives are members of our various fraternal societies that they do not have to wonder what these societies are all about. Just think of how many are
members of our Society! We are proud to have them as members and appreciate what they do for us and themselves as members. One such member is Congressman of our 11th district of Texas, Marvin Leath. Instead of going on a taxpayer's expense "j unket" overseas during the Easter recess, he visited cities and communities in his district. He visited West Monday, April 16th and we had a chance to exchange a few words with him and have since received a nice friendly letter from him; a sincere and forthright man representing his constituents and district. .. In answer to a previous request for "lighter" reading in the Czech Section, in this issue, we are publishing some more light reading named "0 Smolickovi." Read it and try to figure out and define the word used in the article. When speaking of rewards of apathy, it is something that has a lot going for it. It is easy to catch and is painless. You can ignore it and nothing happens. The stronger it gets the less you feel you need to do about it. Somehow it becomes most noticeable when it begins to spread over a large area. When it does, the individual usually feels it belongs to someone else.. Another appealing thing about apathy is the warm glow of nothingness it gives.
