FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, April 8 we attended the District III SR banquet hosted by District III SR Alvin Nesuda and his lovely, competent wife, Wilma. The evening, everything included, was thoroughly enjoyed by all present—the social, meal (delicious and abundant), program and all. The spirits of all present were somewhat dampened by the absence of Br. Alvin Nesuda who had just returned to his home prior to the banquet date, however, Sister Wilma Nesuda, as usual, handled the situation for him very deftly. Brother Alvin, you were missed but very well-represented, rest assured. After the banquet and a little fraternal visiting, we went by to see Brother Alvin and visited for a brief period before going home. We were glad to find him in good spirits and certainly wish him a quick recovery. He promised to see us at the District III Spring meeting at Lodge No. 66 if at all possible, Alvin and Wilma have always been devout fraternalists for as long as this editor has known them. Sisters Wilma and Elsie Brdecka of District VI are two of the original DYCs having begun the Youth Program in our SPJST, and Alvin has been one of the mainstays in our lodge and fraternal insurance program. ** Spring is here, not only by the calendar but by Mother Nature proving it. In an editorial, after the March 11th District V meeting in Needville, we mentioned the abundance of greenery

MORE TRUTH THAN FICTION Spring is the time of year when big-league baseball players put on their contract lenses. The nice thing about the promise of spring is that sooner or later she will have to keep it. One trouble with developing speedreading skills is that by the time you realize a book is boring you've already finished it. Anybody who doesn't know that a woman's work is never done isn't listening. These trash compactors are nothing new. We've had one for years and called it a closet. Johnny Watkins says he has a special brand of disposal for his garbage-a Poland-China. Over T-shirts in a department store: "The opinions expressed on these shirts are not necessarily those of the management." to be seen 250 miles south of our City of West and it has arrived here to greet us in the past week or so and, lo and behold, we hear of snow in the northern tier of states in our own US! Mark Twain made the famous statement: "Everybody talks about the weather, yet nobody can do (does) anything about it." How true that is when it pertains to the seasons, Mother Nature and/or the weather! Those devastating tornadoes on the Texas-Oklahoma border proved that recently and, we feel sure, brought back memories to many of

our Waco inhabitants of the one which did such extensive damage to that city some years back. Our sympathy certainly goes out to those people in Vernon, Wichita Falls, Texas, Lawton, Oklahoma, etc. and we can only hope that none of our members were among the unfortunate ones who were caught in this disaster. It really is distressing to hear that sightseers were one of the biggest problems to the authorities. One wonders why people insist on causing more havoc and trouble than if they simply stayed at home! Brother John F. Chupick was our SL secretary for many years until 1961; he and his wife, Clarine, are well-known to our family and many of our members. We recently received the following clipping and reprint it because we feel many of our members will be interested; not too many people live to see their 90th birthday and we wish both of them well. JOHN CHUPICK HONORED ON 90th BIRTHDAY SUNDAY With his Presbyterian Sunday School class as hosts, John Chupick was honored on his 90th birthday at a dinner Sunday, March 25 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jungmichel. There were twenty present, including Mrs. Chupick, Mrs. Chupick's brother, John Bliznac and the Rev. and Mrs. Frank McElroy. The dining table was covered with a
