FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The Publication Committee met, as announced, Saturday, March 24 at 10 a.m. in the board room of the SL. In the first portion of the meeting SL officers VP Bernard Gebala, FS Jerry Mikulas, Jr. and LA Reuben Lesikar met with the PC and discussed some of the work pertaining to both the SL and. PC inclusive and of common interest to both and the Society as a whole. One of the things thoroughly discussed . was what you see in the center of the front page instead of the usual poem, quotes, etc. The PC requested that we stress this updating as much as possible because it will cost our Society money, however, this has not been done in a long time. Remember, this does not, repeat does not cost you a bit of effort and not a single penny; the postage is paid! Please read the material from SL Financial-Secretary Jerry Mikulas, Jr. and change your address as requested, if necessary. We will try to place it in the first two columns of page 3, if at all possible. We have placed the notice in the Czech Section for those of our elderly members who may not read English as readily. As mentioned prior to this issue, inflation has caused our mailing and publishing costs to increase rapidly. Our Vestnik has been called the most widely read and circulated paper containing Czech of its type and we are proud of the fact, however, we all must face reality.
NOTICE Dear Fellow Members and Readers: Recently the editorial carried a portion on the front page, first column, about the Supreme Lodge updating the Vestnik mailing list. It is hoped all have read it and the reasons for doing so. In this issue are samples of the letter and both sides of the post card you will be receiving within a few days after you receive this Vestnik. Read all CAREFULLY and RETURN POST CARD if you wish to CONTINUE receiving the Vestnik; if you DO NOT return the card, your name will be DROPPED from mailing list. If you DO NOT care to receive the Vestnik, DO NOT send card back. The card is postpaid and self-explanatory. -EDITOR Your editor and the PC members went over quite a number of things which had been called to the attention of either the editor or the PC members, especially the PC chairman Ed Mazanec. All were thoroughly discussed in a constructive, fraternal way and with criticism if the situation so warranted it. The one aspect of our present PC members your editor appreciates very much, all seven of them, is the fact that they are objective in their thinking, discussions, asking questions, interest in the overall membership and our Society and reaching their conclusive decisions; they do not allow personality
conflict to enter their decisions on what is the best conclusion to reach in any case. There are cases where the editor's opinion may conflict with some member of the PC, however, PC Chairman Mazanec has an open, fraternal exchange of opinions on any subject and it is always resolved to the satisfaction of all ;they do not come to their meetings with closed minds. PC Secretary Melvin Skrabanek will have more covered in his minutes.
** .. Sunday, March 11th, we attended the District II SR's banquet hosted by District II SR Lad Zatopek at Lodge No, 177, Academy. Yours truly went alone, leaving the family home, and, being a little early, drove to Lodge 80 Holland to take a picture of their lodge home and then returned to Lodge No. 177 and took one of their hall. The day was beautiful and the MI)" pleasant and we saw there is more grain in the ground in that area than around West. The banquet was thoroughly enjoyed by all present and pictures of the winners appear in this issue. District II SR Zatopek and wife, Maryann, plus son, David, provided all of us with a pleasant evening. Since then we have attended the District VI meeting and the District I SR's banquet, however, we will have to touch on that at a later date when space and rush of time allow.
