FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK ..In a recent SL meeting the executive board decided to update the mailing list of our SPJST Vestnik and in this issue, you will find a letter from our SL Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas, Jr. pertaining to the same matter. It is in reference to members who may not be interested in receiving the weekly publication.

Please read the letter carefully; we will try to publish it at least two times and Brother Mikulas will follow it up with more information, later. This is rather important to our Society because of the increase in cost of publishing the Vestnik and also the cost of mailing it. After all, why publish it and/or mail it if someone does not wish to receive it!

Those of our members or readers who read the Report of Directors for 1978 in January will remember that publishing the Vestnik cost our SPJST Society $63,279.78 plus postage of $35,039.00— a total of $98,318.78 which amounts to "no small peanuts" in any way!

Actually, our SPJST delegates to our last (1976) convention were ahead of our U.S. President Jimmy Carter's plans—he has proposed a limit of 7 percent increase in labor's demands to combat inflation and also business holding the line on increase in cost of merchandise. It seems that in January and February, with the huge increases in, especially, food items— all of that has been ignored, however, the delegates to our convention stipulated that our SL officers, editor,

Maybe our delegates should be in Washington because their judgement is probably wiser than the folks "up there." Of course, the cost of publishing our Vestnik is not tied down to those limits of 6 percent.

The SPJST Vestnik is enjoyed by many of our members/readers and we would like to share the following letter with all of you; we feel it will be of interest to our readers. We

certainly appreciate Mr. W. Phil Hewitt's interest and will go out of our way to comply with his wishes.

As you know we collect information concerning a number of ethnic groups in Texas, and I am especially interested in items on Czechs. I would certainly like to add copies of the original letters to our files. And naturally I would like to borrow the photographs so that we can make copies for our photo research files here at the Institute. If you could send me xeroxed copies of the letters, I can file them along with the copies published in Vestnik and we could duplicate the photographs very quickly and return your originals to you.

You have no idea how much I appreciate these occasional items of interest that appear in Vestnik because many of these things appeir only in your publication. Keep up the

..This year marks a double anniversary, the 155th anniversary of the birth and the 95th anniversary of the death of Bedrich Smetana, the creator of Czech national music. Born March 2, 1824 in Litomysl, he died December 12, 1884 in Prague, Czechoslovakia.

From 1824 to 1884, Bedrich Smetana was the first great artist of world stature, a genuine and conscious real creator of a modern and national music. Out of the post-Mozart Idyllism he led an already consolidated people through stormy times. His musical education progressed slowly but sincerely and simultaneously with the deepening of his national consciousness. From his formative student years, he became aware that his music was a gift of inspirational power and an instrument for national encouragement. His first opera, "The Brandenburgians in Bohemia" (1866), was an artistic and national credo combined. "The Bartered Bride," done shortly afterward, is the first one hundred percent product of the new folk spirit in Czech music.

Smetana is the intelligent, cultivated city dweller, who disciplined his musical imagination, placing it systematically at the service of the nation and the new trend in art.

Although his eight operas seek a new style, he knew his Wagner well, and what dramatic truth meant --- it had been adjusted to the needs and the character of the Czech singing nature.

He was a convinced disciple of Liszt, but he found his own expression and knew what extent his peopie have to preserve their independence in music and especially melody and rhythm. In his most important works, the cycle "Ma Vlast" (My Fatherland) and the opera, "Libuse," his art expresses the hopes of his country and the determination of his people in the midst of an oppressive political atmosphere. His last symphonic poem, "Blanik," is based on the same Hussite battle hymn as the finale of "Libuse," thus expressing the faith in his people's future.

Wednesday, March 21, 1979 Smetana's artistic reputation reached America many years after his death and even then only in part.

Dvorak gained his laurels while he was still alive and active; and, by means of his music, he gave new impetus to American composers, as well as to those of his own people. In Bohemia, Smetana's example created chiefly talented imitators, while Dvorak's pupils passed on the tradition of authentic inspiration and solid technical mastery. .. However, technically and historically speaking, Leos Janacek was probably the next one to follow Bedrich Smetana in stature, although not quite as well-known and recognized as Antonin Dvorak. Janacek was born July 3, 1854 (30 years after Smetana). In 1905 he joined demonstrations in Brno to have an university built there and that, finally, became a reality.

He lived to see October 28, 1918 when Czechoslovakia became a free republic; the Declaration of Independence of his Country.

In recognition of that historical event he composed, in honor of his freed country "Symfonietty" depicting Ole life in a free country.

NEWSBRIEFS MAZAC REUNION

The second annual family reunion for the descendants of John and Marie Mazac will be held Sunday, April 1st at the VFW Hall at Circleville, five miles North of Taylor on Highway 95.

A covered dish meal will be served at 12 noon.

(Schedule in Accompanying Box) To All Concerned: Based on precedence and recent actions of the Supreme Lodge, the following will be in effect for this year's workshops:

SCHEDULE OFFICERS' WORKSHOPS — 1979

PRESIDENTS AND VICE PRESIDENTS, SECRETARIES, FINANCIAL SECRETARIES, AND TREASURERS SATURDAY, MARCH 31 - ENNIS, LODGE 135 [SOKOL HALL]

(NOTE: ALL SECTIONS WILL MEET THIS YEAR AT LODGE 135 THE SCHEDULE FOR ALL WORKSHOPS AND ALL SECTIONS IS AS FOLLOWS: 10 a.m. to 10:45 — session 15-minute break 11 to 11:45 — session 12 noon to 1 p.m. — noon meal (Courtesy Supreme Lodge (Section pictures will also be taken during noon hour) 1 to 2:10 — session 2:15 — final and joint session CONDUCTED BY SUPREME LODGE OFFICERS Make A Special Effort To Be There; You and Your Lodge Will Benefit By It (See accompanying article for further details) —Supreme Lodge, SPJST 1)Officers this year will include those as before, with the addition of the "...lodge treasurer, or some other person designated by the lodge."

2) Sections will include lodge presidents and vice presidents in one section, lodge secretaries in another, and financial secretaries in another. The treasurers may attend any or all of the three sections, moving to them only at the start of the sessions or during the breaks.

3) Mileage for one car only from each lodge, 15 cents a mile, however, if one of the locations is not convenient for the officers of a particular lodge on the date scheduled, they may attend the workshops at one of the other locations, but mileage would still be paid for only one car from each lodge at any one of the three locations. Anyone else wishing to attend these workshops, other than mentioned here, is welcomed to do so, furnishing their own transportation.

These workshops held in previous years were proven to be mutually beneficial. They will deal primarily with lodge procedures and administration.

We are not including workshops on youth work or insurance per se, since these two areas are adequately covered by the vice president and state field managers and state youth director in their district and state seminars and training classes.

We must remember that our national and state laws define a Fraternal Benefit Society as "having a lodge system with ritualistic work." The more efficient our lodges are, the better we are insuring and guaranteeing our future as a Fraternal Benefit Society.

The United State Internal Revenue Code specifies two primary requisites for a Fraternal 'Benefit Society: "a) Must operate on the lodge system, and b) Provide for the payment of life, sick, accident or other benefits to members or their dependents." Thus we see the specific reference to a "lodge system" and it is through the lodge system that we must operate and improve our services. It behooves every officer mentioned above to attend these workshops as a part of his duty and obligation in being an officer in the local lodge, especially those rho are new in the office and have not attended these workshops previously. We will all learn through these workshops.

Twenty-one sales representatives made sales in February.

L. J. Zatopek District II Sales Rep. - SPJST DISTRICT III SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT The year 1978 turned out to be another record year of growth for SPJST. Not only were our sales the largest on record but our total assets have increased by more than six percent. This shows that, not only were our sales representatives on the job, but our Supreme Lodge officers and directors were on their toes to manage the additional business to the best advantage of the Order. This should be an incentive to our sales personnel to continue the good work.

Everyone loves to be a part of a winning team. However, this pride can be somewhat meaningless if you did not actually take part in bringing this about. I have noticed that several of our inactive sales representatives have come'up with some production 'since the first of the year. This is encouraging.

Here in District 3 the top producer in January was Jeanette Smith and Johnie Hrabina was the top producer in February. We, hopefully. anticipate to have a million dollar producer in 1979! Our production for 1979 follows!

Wednesday, March 21, 1979 Congratulations to all the sales representatives in District V for doing an outstanding job for the month of February; the weather still was pretty bad, so I hope, for March, everyone will get the spring fever and take the dust off their rate book and will put the rate book to good use.

Our banquet was held at Lodge No. 142 February 25th. All the sales representatives who came out and had a very enjoyable time and those of you who did not make it, missed a wonderful day of fellowship. Thank you Lodge 142 for letting us have our banquet at our lodge.

In January three sales representatives' classes were held: at Taiton, Victoria and Hallettsville. We had the pleasure of having our two State Field Managers with us; Bro. Silas Smith and Bro. REPORT OF THE PUBLICATION COMMITTEE

The Publication Committee met in Temple, Texas April 15, 1978 and September 30, 1978. All seven districts had representatives at both meetings.

At the two meetings several letters were read pertaining to objections regarding articles in the Vestnik. The members protested that the letters violated the Guidelines as set up by the Publication Committee. The committee acted on the reported objections.

The Publication Committee acted on three letters during the year 1978 that were sent to the committee by the

editor. The editor considered these three letters containing objectionable material and the committee took action on these. Two of the letters were rejected for printing and one was approved for printing.

During both meetings the committee met with Editor Rudy Sefcik and problems concerning the printing and the editing of the Vestnik were discussed.

The first meeting for 1979 is scheduled to be held in Temple, Texas March 24, 1979.

DISTRICT H SPRING MEETING

Dear Brothers and Sisters of District II: It is time once again for the annual spring District II meeting. This year the meeting will be held March 25 at Lodge No. 18 in Elgin.

I would like to urge all members who possibly can to do so, to attend because we will elect district officers for the upcoming year at this meeting.

This is the time for all members of District II to get involved in your SPJST. Registration for the meeting will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with the meeting beginning promptly at 2 p.m. Right before the election of officers, for the coming year, there will be a 15-20-minute break; immediately following the break, we will hold the election of officers. After the election and adjourning of the meeting, there will be a cake auction for each youth club in the district.

A special announcement applies to the members who were appointed to the Nominating Committee to meet 30-45 minutes before the meeting. This also pertains to the Auditing Committee. We need to let you audit the books before the meeting since they were not audited at the District II officers' meeting.

The .officers who will be up for election or re-election are as follows: President Ray Woytek, 1st Vice President D.I. Bohac, Secretary Mary Dubec, Treasurer Edwin Adamek, and District II Youth Counselor Frank Klinkovsky. The reporter will be appointed by the newly-elected president.

This concludes my report for the upcoming District II spring meeting. I

Dear Friends and Members, We gathered for our March meeting in a different place and the proceedings were of an entirely different nature. All the usual order of business was dispensed with, and we concerned ourselves almost entirely with the Trustee Board's reports of bids submitted for the renovation of the lodge hall recently damaged by fire. Al Svacek had gathered a number of bids and these, with more to add later, were to be considered at a special meeting the following Thursday night. One job had already been ordered by the Trustees and a crew of men were working on Sunday to get a roof on the building; this was of prime importance.

All of us were pleased to have Brother Sid Pokladnik of Dallas as our guest and his advice and suggestions were greatly appreciated. We were also glad to see Joe and Elizabeth Gregory present.

All bookings for March and April were cancelled because we are not certain of the date upon which the repairs to the lodge hall will be completed. We do have one thing to be grateful for and that is the spirit of the members present who seem determined to rally their efforts to bring about an even better situation than before. It would be wonderful to see many more of our members who enjoy the lodge on normal occasions throughout the year, present at the special and regular meetings to be held soon. We need your support in the difficult times as well as in the pleasant ones. Any offers of assistance will be welcome.

There was a social period following the meeting and it was learned that John and Victoria Murphy's son was recovering from gall bladder surgery and Mary Lou Akard, daughter of Vlasta Dolkos, had an operation on the retina of her eye. Mary Cihacek called to tell that Joe and Flora Koci were doing well after Joe's heart attack and that Florence Greer and husband, Jimmy, were settled in their new apartment in Richardson.

We hope that it won't be long until we can report a similar case, "Lodge

Wednesday, March 21, 1979 No. 92 is settled back in their newly-refinished home and they are looking for all of you as before."

LODGE NO. 154, FT. WORTH

Dear Members and Friends: I am sure everyone has been happy with this beautiful weather, even if it may not stay with us for long.

Our meeting Sunday was called to order by our president, Brother Jerry Milan.

The members stood in a moment of silence in honor of our deceased Brother John Edward Williams, and our sincere sympathy. is expressed to the family.

All reports were approved as read.

Brother Milan discussed our annual Easter picnic which will be Easter Sunday, April 15 at Tirk's farm. More details later. He also reported on the workshop that will be held Saturday, March 31 at Lodge 135 at Sokol Ennis and the District III meeting Sunday, April 29 at Lodge 66 in Elm Mott.

The latest report on Sister Sylvia Koch Granado: Her last surgery was performed and, if all goes well, she hopes to leave the hospital in 3 weeks.

Two months is a long time and I know she will be happy to be at home at her mother's, Sister Stacey Koch; so, with our continued prayers, we hope she will have a full recovery.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Sisters Maria Prill, Carrie Belle Milan and Brother Ray Johnson. May you have many more and same to all our other March birthday members.

Brother Darrell Williams was our door prize recipient and he was not present.

Our meeting adjourned to refreshments, games and the social was enjoyed by all.

The next meeting will be Sunday, April 8 at 3 p.m.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Brother Henry Banfi and family on the loss of his sister in Chicago. She was also the aunt of Sisters Henrietta Milan and Tina Cox of Fort Worth.

Our country-western dance was a full house and the spaghetti dinner the following day was enjoyed by 300; so we extend a special thank you to all who worked long hours that weekend, even our Omaha guests worked until 3 a.m.

Sister Mary Renfro outdid herself, again, with the delicious spaghetti.

Everyone enjoyed the entertainment put on by Phil Cahoj from Omaha, and

visiting after the program. Our Disco Dance was also a full house Saturday, so again, thanks to one and all.

We wish a speedy recovery to Evelyn Zacek who broke her leg. She is the wife of Brother Joe Zacek.

Benny and I enjoyed a nice visit with our nephew, Brother Joseph Bar of St. Louis, Missouri and he enjoyed all his relatives here.

LODGE NO. 180, BURLESON

Our March 1st meeting was well-attended probably because the weather was nice for a change. The meeting started at 7:30 with Brother Doug Stanley leading the pledge of allegiance. The president of our lodge, Dennis Barabas, then called upon each officer to give their report. All officers were present.

Sister Sandra Barabas, secretary, read the minutes from our previous February meeting which were accepted with only minor corrections.

The rest of the officers gave good reports. Sister Kitty Rippen stated she had sent cards to Sandra Barabas, Wendall Scott, and Paul Montanio.

Here's hoping they are feeling better by now.

Table and chair committee, Brother Mike Hejl, reported that he had received a donation in memory of Willie (Bill) Kurtz, from Lad Moly $5.00, Al Kercho - $10.00, and Kenneth Krivanek family - $10.00. Our sincere thanks to all.

We accepted four new members into our lodge: Judith Ann Smajstrla, Donna Lea Pustejovsky, Timothy Austin Russell and Katherine Lynn Smajstrla.

We have three new members transferring to our lodge: Claudette M. Hurtik, Joe Lee Hurtik and Steven G. Hurtik. By the way, our first Czech wedding to be held at our lodge, will be the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hurtik. The wedding will take place March 17th. Congratulations!!

Youth Leader Teresa Hampton gave her report on the disco dance. The youth had a very good turnout which they were glad to see. Their profit was $333.20. Mydell Grohoske donated

9 $5.00. Thanks, Mydell! District Ill Youth Counselor Ed Kamas was our honored guest at this meeting. He urged us all to keep up the good work with the youth of our lodge.

Dear Members: The regular lodge meeting was called to order March 9 at 7:30 p.m. with President Vlasta Jez presiding.

.. Lodge 54 West honors member.

Al Payne) LODGE NO. 54, WEST Dear Brothers and Sisters: Now that we have had a good opportunity to look over our accomplishments for the past year, one finds that some are favorable and some did not fair as well. We must now use a little foresight and plan for the remainder of the year by retaining the earlier year's resolution of attending lodge meetings and undertaking interest in community affairs.

It was gratifying to see several new faces and longtime members of our lodge at the first quarterly meeting, March 11th. As usual, the meeting procedure was conducted by President Ernest Zahirniak.

It seems like winter signified the termination of life in some ways---two of our elderly members, Brother Vinc Tobola and Brother James Motis, both of West, passed away since our previous meeting. The lodge sends its condolences to the surviving families.

The December 10, 1978 annual meeting minutes stood approved after a minor correction.

Correspondence items were briefly discussed; they were then deferred to new business.

Brother Zahirniak announced he will appoint the same persons from last year on the following committees: Kitchen, Refreshments and Property.

He also gave a rundown of several elements that needed to be taken care of pertaining to the building facilities.

.. Youth Leader Mona Zahirniak on behalf of the Lodge 54 Youth Club honors Brother Ed Mikeska with a boutonniere.

Vice President Ted Kocian reported on the financial secretary's and treasurer's books that were audited by the Auditing Committee recently; the books were found up-to-date, and the next audit shall take place in May. Get-well cards were sent to Sister Joe Dujka at two different occasions while she was on the recovering list.

Sympathy cards were sent to the John Sulak, Vinc Tobola and James Motis families.

Brother Wright presented his report and read the names of the new members seeking their enrollment at Lodge 54, West. They were Ronnie Reed and Hayden Holecek. Delaine Wolf had a conversion policy.

Brother John Mynar moved that we accept the above-mentioned names into our lodge. A second to the motion was made by Brother Ben Kudelka.

The motion carried.

At this time Brother Zahirniak recognized and congratulated Brother Ed Mikeska, our 50-year SPJST member, who was honored by the lodge and youth club after the meeting..

Youth Leader Mona Zahirniak gave the highlights of the club's activities for the past quarter ending. She also mentioned the leaders' and assistants' seminars at various locations. In her concluding report, she stated that the club will honor Mr. Mikeska with a boutonniere for his faithfulness to the lodge.

All the officers' reports were accepted.

Announcements of the following dates and locations were made: March 31--District III officers' workshops at Lodge 135, Ennis.

Apr. 29--District III meeting at Lodge 66, Elm Mott.

June 3 -- Lodge 54 meeting and social, 3 p.m.

Before adjournment Brother Zahirniak revealed that some time ago he asked Sister Sefcik to handle the questionnaires on the Outline Information of Lodge 54 West to be submitted to the Home Office. Since the records were destroyed during a fire in 1922, she had about 50 'years of history to research at the SPJST Vestnik Library at the printshop. in West to complete whatever she possibly could. She was also asked to complete the questionnaires for Lodge 126, Ross which merged with our lodge. He commended her for her services and called on her to make some comments.

Door prize recipient was Brother Ted Kocian.

Wednesday, March 21, 1979 Viola Chervenka and Ralph Milek, our old accordionist and were we happy to see him after several months absence! Ralph is building a new home and this with his work has kept him very busy. Don't stay away so long next time; we love you and we hope you will attend regularly again.

We had a great time singing those old beloved Czech and English songs everyone loves so much. We are working on a special list of popular songs that we will present at the Southern Villa. Nursing Home, April 5th at 7 p.m. so everyone of you make an effort to be there and let's make the residents there happy. We hope all of you will turn out for this occasion.

After a great singfest, we had a short business meeting; minutes were read by secretary Sister Lillian Kosarek and accepted as read. Since neither our president, Sister Emily Stuteville nor our vice president, Sister Georgia Sodek were present, Sister Ruby Bolton presided. We discussed some coming Spring picnic and we hope all of you will think about this and bring your ideas to our next meeting for consideration. We hope all of you will be present for the next rehearsal to practice up on our program we will present at the Southern Villa Nursing home on April 5th, at 7 p.m.

Visitors welcomed to the meeting were Louis Schiller, George Pavelka, Marylou Skrabanek, Ann Balusek, Stacie Horelica, Gertrude Kahlig and Ruth Maruna. We are hoping you are making plans to come, again, because we enjoyed having you present.

Correspondence included the mortuary dues from SL; a letter from SL Secretary Treasurer Leonard D. Mikeska regarding the importance of attendance at the officers' workshops to be conducted in three sections of the state; invitation from District II President Ray Woytek and Secretary Mary Dubec for everyone to attend the spring meeting of District II at Lodge No. 18 in Elgin, Sunday, March 25; and a letter from Lodge No. 29, Taylor that a volleyball tournament is being planned if enough response is received.

New members approved into Lodge 47 were Joe R. Navarrette, John Gordon Drake, Gayle Lynn Mitchell, Timothy Michael Wilson, Shane Russell, Guthrie Doyle, Lynn Young and Dusty Harrington.

Transfers from Lodge 177, Academy to Lodge 47 were Debra Dorsey, Gwendolynn Scott, Eelva Scott and Ricky Lee Scott. We are welcoming each of you into the membership at Lodge No. 47 and begin attending the lodge meetings and other functions.

Paidup certificates were sent to Gary Dubcak and Leona Dubcak.

Get-well cards had been sent by the lodge secretary to Gust Schaefer, Joe L. Kruse, Rosie Fojtasek, Fritz Goldman and Olga Jez (now deceased).

Since the meeting, these members have been hospitalized: LaVerne Bartek, Jim Biskup and Wilbur Hejl.

We hope you are improving day-byday that you may return to your homes well real soon.

Officers and chairmen gave their monthly reports. Maintenance Chairman Brother Woodrow Marek said that the committee is proposing that the asphalt pavement be repaired before potholes develop; the dance floor should be buffed; storeroom vault walls and door needs immediate attention due to condensation and reported that the work day is set for Saturday, March 24 to clean filters, etc. Members, help the committee on this date, please! Grievance Committee Chairman John Hruska said that they are requesting for the grievance to be in writing and to be presented to any member of the committee.

Board Secretary Lillian Kosarek read the board of trustees' minutes of the February 20 meeting and the only important issue was the covered dish supper planned to honor our 18 fifty-year members at the next lodge meeting.

New business was the correction of the wording in the storeroom procedures.

Names of recipients of premium refund checks were read by the secretary and the door prize winners were Marie Vasicek and Binnie (Mrs. Raymond) Mikeska. Then a happy hour followed.

The lodge meeting went so swiftly that the youth leader, Sister Delores Skrabanek, was not ready for her report. She reported twenty-three members, three visitors, one adult and two new members, present. The new members are Michael and Tammy Kortis. For a money-making project, the youth club will be selling hammers that you can take apart and find a screwdriver to fit your needs, so if you are approached by a member, buy one to help the youth club out.

Also, an all sport's day will be held Saturday, March 24th. I am not sure of the time; watch for the youth club reporter's letter as to the time (afternoon, I think). Also, a bike-athon was announced for the month of April. More details later.

The next lodge meeting will be held Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m. Everyone make plans to come to this meeting which will be held to honor our 50-year membership pin recipients, these will receive special invitations. Bring a covered dish for the meal that will follow the meeting. A meat casserole dish, vegetable, salad or sweet will be appreciated. What a feast when all of this delicious food is spread out!

Dear Members: The SPJST Lodge No. 50 El Campo members held their quarterly meeting March 7 at the American Legion Auxiliary.

LODGE NO. 74, LOVELADY

Dear Members and Guests: We had the Country Combinations, one of the most favorite entertainers at our lodge, providing their talents and music for us. Everybody really had a good time.

Raleigh Christian and his wife, Sally, were the hosts to take our places; it being our anniversary March 7, 1979, Mildred and I celebrated dancing to the fine music including a good crowd of members and guests, again. All of you who were not present really missed out on some of the best music performed anywhere.

We had our regular monthly meeting with attendance, as always, not as many as we would like to have attend. President Ralph Smith led us in the pledge of allegiance to the flag, followed by a moment of silence. All the officers gave the report of the old business and, in the new business, there was a change made. The sales representatives who sign up new members and collect proper premiums and dues are voted on before they receive their policies; the reason for that is to save on postage and extra work for the financial secretary.

Members will, in that way, also receive their membership cards with the policy to be delivered or mailed by the sales representative.

Several pieces of hardware, for the use of the lodge, are being ordered:

popcorn popper, washing machine, and other items, etc., that are needed.

We were sorry to have Ben Erwin, one of our faithful and loyal good supporting members, admitted to the hospital; for the first time, he missed attending our Saturday night dance. I went to see him and he is recovering real well.

LODGE NO. 107, FLORESVILLE

Lodge 107 held its regular monthly meeting March 4 at 4:30 p.m.

President Bayer called the meeting to order, and Roxanne Bayer led the members in the pledge to the flag.

All officers answered the roll call.

Minutes were read and approved as read.

Financial Secretary Purchis gave her report, and the treasurer report was read by Brother Sralla.

Youth Leader Polly Bayer gave a report on the youth club activities.

The Bus Fund drive has been extended and will continue until YAD in July. Roxanne Bayer and Kim Herschbach urged members to support the youth club in their fund drive for the new bus. The youth club is also to participate in the "Rock and Roll Jamboree" at the Floresville Nursing Home. The Jamboree is being held to raise funds for the Heart Association. Many of the residents of the home are to participate, and many of the clubs in and around Floresville are helping with the entertainment.

Lodge No. 107 Youth Club is to do several guitar selections and several square dance numbers.

We are proud of our youngsters for wanting to help in this worthy cause.

New members welcomed were Evan Lloyd Snow, Neysa Jean Snow, Tammy Gay Risley and Michael Baumann.

All the officers planned on attending the workshop in Hallettsville, March 10th.

President Bayer called the attention of the members to the improvements of light switches, bulbs and plugs that had been done with the $50 donation from the "Peanut Squares."

Several pictures, are still needed for pictures of past presidents. President Bayer also wanted some pictures of the present officers. These were taken after the meeting and are to be used in our local Lodge 107 history.

A lovely plaque was given to

Brother Alvin Hrna for 16 years of dedicated service as financial secretary of Lodge 107. Brother Hrna resigned in January due to poor health.

The Louis Novak family donated $10 to the Memorial Fund in memory of Tomas and Frances Novak. The Memorial Fund now stands at $479.70.

President Bayer read an obituary of Pauline (Vincik) Miculka who passed away February 27th. Mrs. Miculka will be missed by all of us; she was always present at District VII meetings and other special functions.

Our sympathy to all family members.

Correspondence from President Morris and District VII Sales Representative Tillie Valchar was read.

The Vestnik was requested to be sent to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sralla of 607 E. Street; they are newly-weds, and the secretary was asked to get the Vestnik sent to their new address.

Committees for the forthcoming District VII meeting and barbecue were named: Chicken Barbecue--Billy Pavliska, Beans and Potato Salad-Pauline Pavliska, Bread, Plates, Cups, Etc.--Robert Bayer, Coffee and Tea--Lori Hrna and Gussie Sralla, Cakes and Desserts--youth club, Slaw, Pickles, and Onions--Anton Svoboda.

These members named are chairpersons of these committees. Many of our members are most generous in their donations, without which our project would not be very successful. All the members are asked to please come and help. If you have been asked for a donation, fine, if not, perhaps you could donate some money to help pay for the chickens, plates, etc. Anyway, we need the support and good will of all our members to make the day a big success.

Our next project is to get some better tables for the hall. The ones we have are getting very old and it would add so much to the appearance of the hall if our tables and chairs were all uniform.

The front yard also gets sort of sloppy when it rains and some comments were made of gravelling it when funds are available.

A work day before the District VII meeting was also discussed. The barbecue shed needs some minor repairs and, of course, the kitchen needs straightening and cleaning. The Saturday before the meeting, March 24, Was the date chosen for the members to come to the hall and help.

In the letters to the members eligible to receive 50-year pins, I wrote that these would be awarded

Wednesday, March 21, 1979 afternoon. This was an error and they are to be awarded BEFORE noon.

President Bayer didn't know the exact time but he supposed around 11 a.m.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the agenda has not been published (at this writing) so we do not know the exact time. Those of you who received the letters, please take note.

Robert Kalenda was reported improving from surgery in St. Luke's Lutheran Hospital in San Antonio.

Lori Hrna was the winner of the door prize.

Dear Readers: A very informal monthly meeting was held, due to the absence of several executive officers, Wednesday, March 7, at 7 p.m.

Saturday afternoon, April 7, 1979, starting at 3 p.m., a yard and hall clean-up will be held. A supper will be provided for the workers and the ladies are asked to bring a sweet. This is for all the membership, old as well as young.

Bring your brooms and mops and lots of elbow grease!!!

88, HOUSTON This past week was an especially busy one at Lodge No. 88; the activities never simmer down to zero.

Most of us sometimes wish we would have living quarters available to accommodate the busy committees to spend the night. Tuesday-choir and concert band rehearsals, WednesdayBirthday Club, Thursday-Social night, Friday and Saturday-dances and lots of meetings in between. Friday the big band dance with Guy Lombardo was a nice affair to remember. The attending guests were fabulous and the music was great. The hosting committee for Friday was on the spot real early and ready for the arriving guests. Ludwig Mikes was in charge with his lovely wife. Saturday night, music again by the Guy Lombardo orchestra, sold out to a capacity crowd both nights. The ladies in lovely gowns and quite a few of the male guests wore tuxedos which was a pleasing sight in the Chandelier Ballroom. In charge of the dance was Bennie Kocich and wife, Stacy, in a red chiffon at his side. Milert Antrich and spouse, Evelyn, in a peach-colored chiffon. Bob Martinak and with Ruth, his wife, wearing a yellow chiffon. All six were so busy, that Bennie asked Brother Louis Hanus who came just to see how everything was going) to help out through the rush hour to seat the arriving guests.

Of course, Louis didn't mind; he is always willing to help wherever needed.

Saturday, the first guests to arrive were 40 people on the Continental Bus from Columbus, Tx. They were part of a dance club of 180 members and they hold most of their dances at the VFA lodge in Weimar, Tx. It was their first time at Lodge No. 88 and they all praised our nice facilities. Several asked to have their names placed on the monthly activity bulletin mailing list; starting April they will receive one. I had the privilege to meet Mr. and Mrs. Wendell, Mr. and Mrs. Krenny, Mr. and Mrs. Camplue, and Mr. and Mrs. Brooks. Brother Harry Rice and Mickey, his wife, had many friends among the group.

Saturday, March 3rd, Marion Mikes celebrated her birthday at Table 32 with friends around her and singing the famous birthday song to the beaming Marion, while she was thinking about a wish to make before blowing the lighted candle on the dec6rated cake.

Two celebrants at Table five at the Saturday Guy Lombardo dance had a nice birthday remembered by their friends with a most beautiful flower arrangement and other things: none other than Mrs. Brown, March 10th and Mrs. Elizabeth Walsch, the eleventh. Happy Birthday to all celebrants.

The Beta Sigma Phi Sorority held its annual 1979 Charity Ball Saturday, February 24th in the Houston Convention Center benefiting the Metabolic Research. The chairman of the Moonlight and Roses Charity Ball, was none other than our lovely Sister Carlene Carlock. Carlene, a very active member of the Beta Sigma Phi was chosen as chairman of this worthy cause for 1979 which ended with terrific results. Attending this

13 special affair were Bill and Evelyn Vornsand, Tim and Rosalee (a member of Beta Sigma Phi) Kostom, Willie and Edna Wehring and Gene and Georgie Barcak. The music for the dance was furnished by Tannenberger.

Brother Ed Kadlecek, in Heights Hospital in Room 229 since last Wednesday, had several tests and also in the Methodist Hospital which will determine what medication to follow.

We miss you, Ed; be back soon. Ed is like a fixture at the lodge and, when not around, everyone misses him.

Brother Dick Schnell was under the weather for a few days; feeling fine and is back in the harness, again.

Brother Henry Knapick is in Heights Hospital since Saturday, March 10th to have surgery on his ankle which he broke some time ago. We wish all our members on the sick list a speedy recovery.

Funeral services were held for Mr. Willie V. Neskorik, age 73, Sunday, March 4th, 1979 at Schulenburg, Tx. in the St. Rose Catholic Church with Father Roger Robbin officiating. Mr. Neskorik was laid to rest in the Schulenburg City Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Emilie Neskorik; two daughters, Norma Grahmann of Kathy, Tx. and Anita Stryk of Flatonia, Tx.; son, William Neskorik of Houston, Tx. and four grandchildren. We wish to extend our sincere sympathy to the surviving family.

The SPJST Workshop held in Hallettsville, Tx. Saturday, March 10th was very successful by the sentiment expressed by the attending officers of lodges and interested SPJST members. The group of presidents and vice presidents was much larger this year.

I think that shows the need for leadership instructions as given and pointed out by our SL President Nick Morris, also explaining the legal side by our legal advisor R.B. Lesikar. We all felt sorry for President Nick Morris feeling bad, but like a trouper he just went on, we were glad that by noon he was feeling better and I hope you won't have a relapse. Brother Vice-Pres. Bernie Gebala, Treasurer Leonard Mikeska and Financial-Secy Jerry Mikulas were all busy. For my part, I enjoyed the day and the drive with Director Louis Hanus and Tillie Ilelmcamp, Jerry Ermis, Lodge 88 president . Margaret Allbritton (treasurer) and Assistant Financial-Secy.

14 LODGE NO. 79, CORPUS CHRISTI Dear Members: We had our meeting March 8 at 7 p.m. with President Frank C. Sacky leading us in the pledge of allegiance.

All officers, except Secretary Manta Foster who is recuperating from a heart attack, were present. A total of nineteen members and two guests were present at the meeting.

Minutes were read and approved.

We will have our annual SPJST picnic May 20th. The menu will consist of barbecued beef with all the trimmings. We will have a country store and hope to get different groups for entertainment. We would like to have some Czech singers and dancers come down. If any group is interested to put on a show contact: Mrs. Joe Moss, 5006 Brandesky, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.

We want to thank Brother Frank C. Sacky for paying for the printing of the dinner tickets.

In February, Brother Ray Peters and Sister Carrie Veselka were hospitalized but are now at home. At this writing Michelle Pesek is still in the hospital. She was in a car wreck coming home from school. We wish all the above, plus Monta Foster, a speedy recovery.

We are still asking for helpers to come work at the hall. We start at 9 a.m. each Saturday and Sunday to clean up and do whatever is to be done. It's not that hard, so come out and help us, you will enjoy it!

A special happy birthday goes to Mrs. Agnes Bren who was 83 years young on March 12th. Here's wishing you many, many more.

LODGE NO. 179, WARRENTON

Dear Members and Friends: Our lodge held their regular monthly meeting Sunday, March 11 in the Warrenton Store Guest Room with a nice attendance of members and guests. As a special guest we were privileged to have had, in our midst, Sister Melinda Wilson, District I youth counselor, and also Sister Jan Schoenemann.

President Harold Bergmann convened the meeting by leading the group in reciting the pledge of alleaiance.

In absence of our secretary, Doris Eckermann read the minutes of the previous meeting and correspondence. Lee Leonhardt gave the treasurer's report; both were accepted as read.

Dorothy Oltmann gave the mortuary standing and also the name of Derrick John Lozana, a juvenile, as a new member. He was voted on and warmly accepted into our lodge.

The Band Committee stated that they engaged a band for our annual event. Further details will be forthcoming as time draws nearer to the occasion.

President Harold Bergmann and Sister Dorothy Oltmann gave brief reports on the workshop they attended at Hallettsville. They stated that it was informative as well as enjoyable.

Sister Oltmann stressed she learned that, in case of an address change, she should immediately be notified so that she can reveal the change to the Supreme Lodge. Our negligence costs the Supreme Lodge a large sum of money every year.

The Food Committee stated that the lodge will furnish beef stew at the next meeting.

An invitation is extended to youth leaders and assistants to attend the seminar at Herrington's Camp near Austin, March 31 and April 1st.

Members were reminded of the District I meeting April 29th. Further details will be forthcoming.

There are several of our members on the sick list who are at home convalescing and Sister Alice Wiederander is in a hospital. We wish them all a speedy recovery.

The door prizes presented by the youth club in appreciation for our help in previous activities were won by Sister Elda Wessels and Sister Doris Eckermann. Thanks to the youth club.

Following a brief discussion, it was voted to have our next meeting on the third Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

Afterwards the group enjoyed delectable hot dogs, potato salad, deviled eggs, pickles, and delicious cakes, pies, cookies, doughnuts, chips, and refreshments.

The remainder of the evening was spent in good fellowship.

SPJST LODGE NO. 84, DALLAS SOFTBALL TEAM

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Spring is here and the softball team of Lodge 84 is preparing for another season (our 26th consecutive one) in the Dallas Fast Pitch Commercial Softball Association.

We hope to, again, field a strong team with most of last year's players back and we will probably have six new players on the roster. Our pitchers will be Lionel Schulz and Roy Andrews and both should have very good seasons. We should have a lot of speed and good defense. What we really need is some strong hitting and we are working on this.

All in all, we hope to have a real good team and we are looking to a successful and enjoyable season. We have started practicing and even played a practice game last Sunday.

We will play in the DSMA pre-season tournament in Dallas at Krest Park Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25 during the day. The regular season will begin, probably, in the week of April 16th. The leagues will be formed this week, because we still do not , know any details on this and I will report on the outcome in my later reports.

Saturday night, March 31 the annual Softball Team Benefit dance will be held at the SPJST Lodge No. 84 at 2625 Floyd Street in Dallas. The very popular Czech Harvesters Orchestra will be playing for this dance, featuring polkas, waltzes, and country-western music. We invite all of our members and their friends to make plans to attend this dance and help the softball team to raise funds for this coming season. Without your attendance and your support, the team could not exist. We guarantee you good music and that you will all have a good time, so please make plans now and help the team.

1 will again attempt to send in reports on the team this season and we invite as many members, who can. to come out to the games and root for the team.

We are hoping to see all of you at our annual dance, Saturday night, March 31st !

Wednesday, March 21, 1979 SPJST LODGE 88 CZECH CONCERT ORCHESTRA Dear Brothers and Sisters: CALLING ALL MUSICIANS! The SPJST Lodge 88 Czech Concert Orchestra has openings for eight to ten musicians: high school musicians, as well as their dads and grandpas, and, of course, moms and grandmas, are welcome. We rehearse every Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Lodge No. 88 lodge hall on 1435 Beall Street in Houston. You do not have to be a member of SPJST to play in the orchestra but, of course, do not let that keep you from joining the lodge if you are not already a member because there are many benefits in belonging. All we ask is that you attend rehearsals on a regular basis because, no matter how good a musician you may be, you still must rehearse when you play in a large concert orchestra. Even the Boston Symphony rehearses and much more than we can ever hope to.

We already started the season with a concert at the Ethnic Festival given by the Bellaire Historic Society last Saturday and many more are coming up such as the Houston Main Street Festival, the Fort Bend County Czech Fest, and others; so hurry if you want to join in the fun.

There was an error in Sister Frances Olexa's letter in the March 7th issue of the Vestnik in that she wrote that we rehearse on Tuesday nights. Remember, it is on WEDNESDAY NIGHTS when we hold our rehearsals. Thanks for the plug anyway, Sister Frances.

District Meetings DISTRICT SPRING MEETINGS District I will hold their spring meeting Sunday, April 29th, at 2 p.m. at the Silver Wings Ballroom in Brenham. * * District II will hold their spring meeting Sunday, March 25th, 1979 at host lodge, Lodge No. 18, Elgin. * * District III meeting will be held Sunday, April 29th, with Lodge No. 66, Waco, as host. * * District IV will hold their regular spring district meeting on the 4th Sunday in April, 1979, with Lodge 160, San Angelo being host.

..Czech Folk dance instructor, Mrs. Maggie Grmela of West, who devotes much of her and her husband's time and talents to many persons in this part of Texas, enjoys sharing her efforts instructing persons of various ages in learning to dance the Czech National Dance, the "Reseda."

District VI meeting will be held Sunday, March 25th at Lodge No. 30, Talton at the Taiton Community Center. * * District VII will hold their spring meeting Sunday, March 25th, 1979, with Lodge No. 107, Floresville, as host, beginning at 10 a.m.

FEATURES BESEDA DANCERS GO TO IRVING The West Czech Beseda dancers and the Cottonwood SPJST Lodge No. 6 Youth Club, participated in a day-long series of entertainment Saturday, March 10, at the Irving Mall in Irving.

The day's activities were presented by the Youth For Understanding, an international student exchange program.

Exchange students and groups representing all different countries performed folk dances. sang songs, and played music of their countries.

Performances by the Beseda dancers at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Youth For Understanding is a non-profit international educational

A reception, dinner and dance were held at Lodge No. 84 immediately following the ceremony.

Vicki is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Petr. She graduated from Texas Woman's University in May of 1978 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and Endorsement in Kindergarten.

Gene is the son of Mrs. Jeanne Sims and the late W.B. Sims. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1974 and is now employed' at Texas Instruments in Dallas.

Mrs. Eugene A. Sims VICKI PETR AND EUGENE SIMS ARE WED Miss Vicki Carol Petr and Mr. Eugene Austin. Sims were married in a candle-light ceremony exchanging rings and vows October 7, 1978.

Services were held at North Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Royce Morse officiating.

The bridal gown was made of white silk organza over satin fashioned in the Princess Style. The bodice was made from silk organza and alecon lace. Appliques of alecon lace were on the sleeves and at the waistline.

Bridal illusion streaming from the alecon lace cap made the bridal veil.

The dress and veil were both bordered by matching alecon lace. The bride and her mother sewed on small white pearls to further accent the lace. The

bridal bouquet was made of white roses and stephanades with long white satin streamers. A long stern red rose was given to both her mother and mother-in-law.

The groom wore a white tuxedo jacket with black trim and trousers.

His boutonniere was a white rose and stephanades.

Miss Cherri Petr served as maid of honor and Mrs. Cindy Pokladnik served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Nancy Arista, Jeanne Sharp, Frances Petr, Mary Walling, and Joelle Henry served as flower girl.

Mark Powell was best man; groomsmen were Randy Petr, Paul Pokladnik, Jim Novak, Steve Curry, Steve Keese, Mike Hall, and Eric Keese served as ring bearer.

ROY OTIS SCHANHALS Brother Roy Schanhals, 68-years-old, was named "Worthy Citizen for 1979" of Elgin, February 9 by the Chamber of Commerce at their banquet at the SPJST Lodge No. 18 in Elgin.

He and his wife, Ruth, are members of the SPJST and so is his son, Bruce, and his wife, Martha. His other children are Jim Schanhals of Austin and Barbara and her husband, Raymond Michalek of Penelope.

Brother Schanhals, owner of Davis and Schanhals Pontiac Dealership for 35 years. is now retired and lives in Elgin where he has lived for the past 45 years.

He is a member of the Elgin Methodist Church, the Masons. past commander of the VFW, and he served on the school board as vice president.

Congratulations to Brother Schanhals on his achievement and may he have an en in \ able retirement.

From The Lodge Youth Leaders LODGE NO. 6, COTTONWOOD Dear Members and Readers: The youth club meeting was held March 4th. The attendance was good.

We had a guest, our District III Youth Counselor Ed Kamas. He talked to the youth and also was a judge for the kite contest. Sister Christine Svrcek was a judge, also.

Sister Svrcek and Brother Kamas did a fine job of judging the kite contests.

I want to thank both of you very much.

The winners were: Prettiest--Darrell Uptmor Oddest--Terry Hykel Homemade--Karen Hykel Smallest Flying--Damon Perez Highest Flying--Darrell Uptmor All of them had a lot of fun flying kites. Next year the adults want to fly kites, so we will have a youth and

February 16 the youth club had a Valentine party, games and Valentine card contest. Winners were: lst--Darrell Uptmor, 2nd--Karen Hykel, 3rd--Delores Dobecka. Judges were Brothers Fred Monthie and Alvin Schuetz. Thank you for judging these entries.

The youth members are practicing Beseda every Friday. Ernest and Maggie Grmela are the instructors.

March 10 the youth danced Beseda at the Irving Mall for the Exchange Student Program. We had two circles and Mrs. Grmela had two circles of Beseda dancers. They all did a fine job. The program presentations were very good. I do want to thank everyone and the parents for taking their cars.

March 14 the youth club went to the West Rest Haven for a program.

March 17 District III youth leaders and their assistants had a training seminar at Lodge 25 in Ennis.

April 8 the lodge will have their Easter program, beginning at 2 p.m. with a lodge meeting, Easter program and Easter egg hunt and fried chicken supper ; everyone bring a covered dish to go with chicken and pastry! The youth will have an Easter card contest plus they will be selling tickets on items.

April 11 the youth will have their Easter program with gifts and refreshments.

We have some more cookbooks; also have more cards. If you need some books, call us.

88, HOUSTON

Dear Youth Club Teens, Boy, did you miss some excitement in Needville, Texas at Lodge No. 81, Sunday, March 11th! Lindsay and I, along with Teri Neskorik, Margie Bareak, Melissa McSpadden and Mark Wahlberg enjoyed the day in Needville at the District V meeting.

We were served a good home-cooked lunch with roast beef, sausage, sauerkraut, black-eyed peas and some delicious kolache and other goodies, etc. We thank Lodge 81 for sharing their lodge with us.

Lodge 88 provided a little entertainment by having the intermediate Beseda group dance. They were so good and we were all so proud of them. They looked very nice in their costumes. All those who danced were Danae Noak and her brother, Darren, who helped us out at short notice, Mary Mynar, Kim and Melissa MeSpadden, Bo Going, Vincent Hegwood, and Debbie Dobesh. Lodge No. 88 should be proud of them too. All of the Beseda groups are coming along just fine and I want to thank you for all your fine work. Practice is still going to be held every week for one group and we are putting together a calendar now so you will know ahead of time which group is going to practice.

The District youth club meeting was held also and the room was packed full of teens and juniors. There were a lot of new faces and we all met some new people. We elected the new officers as follows: President - Mark Wahlberg, Vice President - Dennis Veselka (142), Secretary - Debbie Dobesh, Junior Reporter - Mark Mynar and Teen Reporter - Margie Barcak.

We know these officers are going to do a great job and we want to congratulate all of them. Mark Wahlberg was also elected to another term as District V Flag Bearer!!!

We wish that more teens could have been there to enjoy the day with us; maybe next time.

We had a bake sale March 15 which was very successful. We thank all of

those who brought those cakes and cookies for us to sell. The teens had Beseda practice during the bake sale.

Everyone is looking good.

We hope all of you are thinking about something to do for YAD. Let's plan ahead and have a winning Lodge 88 at state. Remember, it's up to you to make the Teen Club something special. Be sure and have some good social ideas for the next meeting of the Youth Club.

Dear Members and Friends: The Lodge No. 169 of Brenham held its February meeting and several things were discussed. We were told of our March meeting at which Sister Melinda Wilson, our district youth counselor, would be in attendance. We also discussed our talent for YAD. We all signed and sent a get-well card to Donald Bednar who was in a serious car accident.

The meeting was then adjourned.

LODGE NO. 117, ROBSTOWN Dear Readers, The Robstown Youth Club held a very successful car wash March 3rd.

The wash started at 12 noon and lasted until 6 p.m. It was a lot of fun and all members, above 10 years of age, were there to help out. Although it is hard work to wash and vacuum cars and trucks, it is well worth the effort and the fun we had was immeasurable; almost everyone was wet at one time or another, but what's a car wash without getting wet? We made about $115.00 for the Bus Fund.

March 9, the youth club bus took 33 members, guests and parents to see the stage production of "Oklahoma" at the Corpus Christi Harbor Playhouse. The bus left at 7:15 p.m.

The musical was very interesting and enjoyable. Everyone enjoyed it and hopes to go back to see another play soon.

LODGE NO. 169, BRENHAM Dear Friends: The youth club of Lodge 169 met at the Kocurek's home on Wednesday, March 7th.

After the meeting was opened by President Deidra Kocurek, the pledge of allegiance was recited by all present.

After the roll was called and the treasurer's report given, new business was discussed. This included the upcoming visit of the DYC and District I YAD to be held in Centerville.

The president adjourned the meeting which fifteen members attended.

In his "Homily," sermon, Rev. Harry A. Pechacek mentioned that Grandma Vicha, as all called her, never complained about adverse conditions be it weather, finances or any other condition. She always was friendly and helpful to all, whether asked or not. The SPJST Lodge No. 35 and the St. Joseph's Church, plus her families will miss her.

Let perpetual light shine on her forever.

Afterward we had some more discussions about YAD. Then we wrote letters to the Vestnik.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY

We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge Nove Kvety No. 35 of Elk, in behalf of our membership, wish to express our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed sister, ROSALEE VICHA

who passed away March 10, 1979 at the Providence Hospital, Waco, at the age of 85.

Sister Vicha was born on June 19, 1893 in a small village in Bohemia, Czechoslovakia. She married Rudolf Vicha, Sr. They came to the U.S. in 1913 and settled in the Elk community where they rented land and then acquired land of their own. Her husband preceded her in death January, 1960. She continued living in this community.

Sister Vicha became a member of Lodge No. 35 in December, 1918, and was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk, at the time of its organization in the early 1920's. She was very active and participated in all the lodge's and church's activities.

Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 11 at the Kotch Funeral Home in Bellmead.

Mass of Christian burial services were held Monday, March 12 at 1 p.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk, with Rev. Frank Miller and Rev. Harry E. Pechacek, a grandson, officiating. Interment was at the SPJST Lodge 35 Pavelka Cemetery.

Sister Rosalee was blessed with and raised four sons and three daughters.

One son, Emil Vicha, died in October, 1975. Other survivors include: Rudolf Vicha, Jr., Robert Vicha, both of Rt. 1, Axtell, Theodore Vicha, Rt. 1, McGregor, Mrs. Angela Pechacek, Rt. 1, Axtell, Mrs. Guy (Martha) McCluskey, 3121 Ethel, Waco, Mrs. Vernon (Rosie) Wood, Rt. 1, Axtell. and '19 grandchildren. and 32 great-grandchildren.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY

We, the members of Lodge No. 50, El Campo wish to express our sympathy to the family of our beloved brother, LOGIC TOBOLA,

age 71, who passed away February 28 at Nightingale Hospital in El Campo.

He is survived by his wife, Tillie of El Campo; two sons, Logic II of Houston and Barry of Austin; three brothers, Leo of El Campo, Ed of Canyon Lake and Bill of Montgomery; two sisters, Martha Barr and Alice Bodungen of El Campo and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. March 2 at the Wheeler Chapel with Rev. Fred Cox, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was at Oaklawn Memorial Park in El Campo. under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home of El Campo.

May he rest in peace.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY

We, the undersigned Resolution Committee of Lodge Karel Havlicek No. 4, Hallettsville, in behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed lodge brother, ALTON A. HEINZEL who passed away March 2, 1979 at 8:40 p.m. in Citizens Memorial Hospital in Victoria, at the age of 49 years.

Mr. Heinzel was born in Lavaca

Wednesday, March 21, 1979 County, near Hallettsville, March 16, 1929. He was married to Beatrice Spanihel June 20, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Heinzel was a former shop foreman for Zaruba Chevrolet Co. here and served this community faithfully as a volunteer fireman.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish here, the Knights of Columbus, SPJST Lodge, American Legion, VFW, and a veteran of the Korean War. The body lay in state at the Kubena Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Monday, March 5, when it was moved to Sacred Heart Catholic Church where mass was offered at 10 a.m. with Rev. Stanley Petru officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his mother. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Heinzel; father, Mr. Albert Heinzel, both of Hallettsville; a son, Gary Heinzel of Houston; and a daughter, Glenda Heinzel of San Marcos.

May our departed brother rest in peace.

She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Morrison, Sr., of Round Rock; sons, Donald Morrison, Jr. of Austin, Texas; Gaylord Morrison of South Beloit, Illinois, Allen Morrison of Sharon, Wisconsin, Harold Morrison of Darlington, Wisconsin; sisters, Mrs. Helen Fleming of Northfield, Minnesota, Mrs. Dorothy A. Ahrens of Beloit, Wisconsin; brother, Wayne Robinson of Covina, California; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosella Christanson, and by her brother, Henry Robinson.

21 Visitations were held in Walworth, Wisconsin, on February 21, 1979.

Funeral services were held February 22, 1979, with burial in the family plot at the East Lawn Cemetery, Beloit, Wisconsin.
