VOLUME 67, NUMBER 2

JANUARY 10, 1979

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The Christmas weekend was a very nice weekend and yet many lives were lost at that time in mostly traffic deaths, however, traffic in Texas is increasing day by day, month by month and year by year, and we will be seeing more and more of this happening. The following weekend, welcoming the new year 1979, was quite the opposite, weatherwise. Central Texas was in the grip of a severe winter ice storm; our members and readers in Dallas are well aware of this because that city was really hit hard by the devastating ice storm. The mail was very slow and, in some cases, stopped completely because of the inability to travel the roads; many of our Vestnik readers very probably have noticed this by the fact that the Vestnik was delayed in delivery. The Indian (rather old aged) who, in November predicted that we could have a very cold winter because all of the animals were growing a heavy growth of fur and the birds had a heavy layer of feathers seemed to know what he was talking about and our present weather pattern seems to prove him right. Of course, it seems that the best thing to do for all of us is to take things as they come and remember that it really is as Mark Twain stated, "Everyone talks about the weather but no one does anything about it!"

IF WE ONLY WOULD! There is so much we could do, if we would; Evil to turn into channels of good; Lives to brighten and hearts to be warmed;

Neighborhood services to be performed; Old folks to visit, young folks to guide; Somebody somewhere for whom to provide. Wide is the field if people are willing to do; Something for others less favored than you. Lamps of affection to trim and relight; Wherever we look there are wrongs to put right. People and problems to be understood. There is so much we could do —

if we only would. We have entered 1979 and are looking forward to a good prosperous and healthy year. We hope to continue printing articles and letters for your reading interest, however, we are somewhat puzzled by a statement in Sister Anita Kubicek's letter from Lodge 184, Moulton, where she quotes District VI Director Matt Vanek as saying, in his talk at the lodge, "that the members never read it (the Vestnik)' We hope that's not the case. Do our members agree?

Plan your insurance program be-

cause just as a builder needs a blueprint to construct a house, you need a detailed plan to build a thorough and efficient life insurance program, tailored to fit your specific needs and finances. To measure your insurance needs accurately, you must be clear on what you want life insurance to do. Its basic use should be protection. In other words, life insurance supplies money to take care of your dependents if anything happens to you. Some people do buy life insurance for other reasons 'besides protection against the loss of income through death. Certain policies, for example, are especially geared to finance retirement, but until you have all the protection you need, you should concentrate on safe guarding your wife and children against the possible loss of your earning power. To gauge your insurance needs you must first estimate how much your family will need to get along in the event of your death. Some estimates put that figure at twothirds of your income. The actual planning will take some down-toearth husband and wife talks and the counsel of a life insurance agent. Your family's needs will probably fall into one or more of the following areas: 1. Is there money to pay 1m-
