Home and family protection fraternities have developed a real service to the home. The life insurance pays dollars into the home from foreclosure and providing food, education and clothing. Yet while the member is maintaining his membership he carries into the home some of the other benefits available.

Attending a lodge meeting, he finds respect for good emphasized.

That is something worth carrying back to the home.

He engages in a patriotic service, making him a better citizen.

That is a benefit to the home.

He participates in a ritualistic ceremony in which the virtues of life are emphasized. Those thoughts caitied home ought to aid in making it a better home.

He learns parliamentary procedure, exchanging ideas in the discussions. Developing a more logical mind is helpful to the home and family.

He finds that society Ls managed through representative government with the lodge as the base, thus he is assuming responsibility.

A better business mind is worth something to the home.

Then he finds fellowship, and the contacts through handclasps and pats on the back, bring to him the better qualities of his associates. He can always find good in the other fellow, and that fraternalism carried home means a more fraternal family circle.

He, by reason of his membership, aids his fellow members; through the mutuality of his contract assuring the payment of death benefits to others, and the program of aiding those in distress. He carries the practice of charity home.

Fellowship, responsibility of management, exchange of ideas and lessons for good, home and family are protection. These are spiritual matters that supplement the hard dollars of the death payment.

This is the answer to the question, "Why should life insurance be coupled with fraternalism and the lodge system?" . . . They belong together.

REPORTS DISTRICT II SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT First, in behalf of all sales representatives in District II, myself, and my family, we wish to express our deep-felt sympathy to the family of Brother Joe B. Hejny. Brother Hejny did many great things for the insurance department and the SPJST and will be remembered and missed by all of us.

In May, we sold 65 members for $324,500 in insurance sales for a total of 514 members for $1,876,000 in insurance sales. We have now written over half our quota, which

All of you who didn't make a sale, remember, you have lots of time left this year, so you can get out and make your appointments, make your sales and meet your quota - the sooner you meet your goal, the sooner District V can meet its quota.

We were all saddened by the death of our SL vice president, Brother Joe B. Hejny. We will all miss him, because everyone . enjoyed him when he held seminars in the district and when he attended our banquets. We all know he devoted much of his time to the SPJST and any time you needed a question answered he would always have an answer for you. He was a person who everyone could discuss any problems they had with him and he would always help. He was very understanding.

To Sister Hejny and her family, I know you will miss him more and more as time goes on. Ow sympathy is expressed to the bereaved family of our departed Brother Joe B. Hejny; his deeds will be remembered by many because he was loyal to the SPJST. Also our sympathy to the Baethe family I know he also will be missed by his family. Our sympathy is expressed to the bereaved family. Brother Herman Baethe was one of our sales representatives in Lodge 88 and he was a hard worker for his lodge and for the SPJST. When he could, he was helping all the time. When Otto passed away we had to make sure he could attend the services at the church; he couldn't get around but he didn't give up and was always trying to help in any way he could to secure new members. He always enjoyed all the seminars and the banquets and he always made it a point to be present.

We also had some sales representatives in the hospital and I hope they are all well by now, or at least well on the road to recovery. We have Sister Agnes Mieulka of Lodge 88 who is still in the hospital. I'm hoping you all t, the best of everything and we all will be praying for you.

We added a new sales representative in Conroe, Sister Anna Klander, and she has made her first sale. Good luck to you in your insurance selling, because the people are there and all you have to do is try to reach them because the area is growing. More and more people are mov,ing to Texas. We have added some more sales representatives but they have not made any sales yet — Karen Brady of Lodge 81, Lenard Steglich of Lodge 175, and John L. Lyman of Lodge 172. I'm hoping to see your names in the active list for the month of June. Good luck to all of you in the insurance field.

I always enjoyed working under the leadership of Brother Hejny.

He knew his insurance and lived by the way he taught it. We will always miss him.

Mikeska, our secretary-treasurer, will be in charge of the vice president's department, temporarily, with the assistance of other officers.

LODGE NO. 66, WACO Dear Members and Friends: SPJST Lodge No. 68 held its meeting Sunday, June 18th, presided over by President Henry West.

The pledge of allegiance and lodge motto were recited by the members.

Visitors included Albert and Hattie Leuschner, Editor Rudy Sefcik and Sister Maxine Sefcik. We were glad to have you and we hope you will come again.

In the roll call of officers, all officers were present, except Financial Secretary Sister Darlene Engelke and Czech Reporter Brother Otto Hanus.

Sister Bonnie Pruitt read the May minutes. They were approved as read.

President West asked everyone to stand for a moment of silence in memory of Robert Edward Cinek,

Jr., and SL Vice President Joe B. Hejny, also Mrs. Ludmilla Hanus, mother of Brother Emil Hanus.

May these loved ones rest in eternal peace.

In correspondence, a thank-you card from the Joe B. Hejny family and a letter from Lodge 180, Burleson, on the dates of their grand opening and dedication of their new home, Aug. 25, 26, and 27.

President West thanked all those who came out Saturday, June 3rd, to help clean up around the lodge building, also all those who came to help prepare the barbepue and noon meal, Brother William Gaskamp who got and prepared the chickens and to Brother Truman Moore for the load of wood for the barbecue stand. Thanks to each of you for a job well done; it is appreciated by the members. The meal was delicious and well prepared.

Brother Mazanec said that due to Sister Engelke not being present, the minutes of the board of trustees meeting held Monday night June 5th, 1978, would be read at the July meeting.

For the Entertainment Committee, Sister Pruitt said that Sister Sue Pauling was busy in the kitchen; she would have her report in July. Sister Bonnie did thank Sister Pauling for the job of organizing the meal and for all the wonderful help and cooperation in the kitchen on preparing the food, also having it ready by 12:30; all of them deserve a hand and a big THANK YOU! In the youth club report, Sister Libbie Parma said the point system sheets had been sent in and that they are starting a new year. The club had elected their officers for the coming year. She read the names of the five highest juniors and teens in their age group. She also read the names of the eligible youth members who will be going to camp in July (25-28). The youth members are ready to go to District III Youth Achievement Day, June 25th; Tena Urbanek is our candidate for queen and Donna Stanislav is the duchess, and several other youngsters are entering in arts, crafts and talent. Brother Ed Mazanec gave a report on game nights which have been very good. He outlined some

6 of the plans they have to make improvements on the lodge building. In addition to his report, he thanked those who come out to work on game nights.

Brother Emil Hanus thanked the board of trustees for the beautiful spray arrangement the lodge sent on the loss of his mother, Brother and Sister Silas Smith and Brother and Sister Bennie Engelke for the lovely pot plant, and also for the lovely sympathy cards. We really appreciate your kindness and sympathy on the loss of our dear mother. The family likewise expresses their thanks. It is great to have such kind and wonderful friends as all of you are. God bless each of you.

New members accepted in June are: Richard Lynn Jackson and George H. Caldwell. Welcome to Lodge 66. This is not a complete list because Sister Engelke was out of town.

Health Committee Report: Sister Mazanec reported that Brother Otto Matus was in the hospital and was scheduled for surgery. We wish him the best of luck. She sent a get-well card to Sister Anita Mazanec who had surgery and is at home doing fine. Good luck, Nita!

Sympathy cards had been sent to the Anton Mazanec family, Brother Emil Hanus on the loss of his mother, Mrs. Ludmilla Hanus, a longtime member of Lodge 26, Skidmore, and to Kathy and Wayne Rossi on the loss of their baby. The entire membership extends their sympathy to you and your family, plus Brother and Sister Ray Moore, grandparents, and also to the Rossi family.

The members of Lodge 66 wish to extend their sympathy to the Robert Edward Cinek, Sr., family on the tragic loss of their son, Robert Edward Cinek, Jr., and to his grandparents, Brother and Sister Bounds, and Brother and Sister W. L. Bohut. May all these loved ones rest in eternal peace.

Sister Rose Parma read a resolution of sympathy for Robert Edward Cinek, Jr., who drowned on May 28th.

It showed a family atmosphere and this shows that we can promote Czech heritage.

We enjoyed seeing so many guests from far and near to help celebrate our Czech Day in Victoria. May 21st.

8 LODGE NO, 88, HOUSTON Our monthly lodge meeting, June 12th, was well attended, considering how many of our members are out of town vacationing. For the past two months, somebody is getting ready to take off for a couple of weeks or longer, while some are coming home from a lengthy car trip, flight, or cruise.

The session of this meeting was conducted with interest shown by the assembly and all the transactions thoroughly discussed, voted on and disposed of, with harmony.

Report, given by Brother Ed Zalmanek chairman of the board was accepted and a vote of confidence given by the membership.

These 15 men on the board of trustees are very conscientious of their duties and work hard to keep our lodge home in good condition.

Members reported on the sick list are: Parliamentarian Sister Mildred Holeman is home from the hospital recuperating; Mary Russel spent quite a spell in the hospital and is now at home (we miss you); Agnes Miculka is feeling under the weather, but she keeps up her good work for the lodge as our sales representative. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to all.

As usual, Helen Hegwood, guide, read the names of all the birthday celebrants in the month of June and "Happy Birthday" rang out from the assembly. Also three wedding anniversaries were announced. Willie and Edna Wehring, married 22 years (June 23, 1956) and blessed with a lovely family.

They donated the refreshments to enjoy with the cold cuts served after the meeting. King and Helen Hegwood blessed with 23 years of happy life were married June 12, 1955. Joe and Katherine Knapick celebrated 46 happy years, they were married June 28, 1932. To all the celebrants our best wishes.

The goblins were at work with my letter of June 14th. I mentioned the gracious couple, Herbert and Gazela Huber. It read: The Hubners at Table 7 with their devoted parents the Glumbs were on the spot, as always. In the first place, Frank and Della Glumb are not their parents, and could not be as their age would not permit it. Instead of parents it should have been partners. Gazela and Herbert, how did you enjoy your adopted parents for the past two weeks?

The June 17th dance was well attended and the guests enjoyed the music by Ray Jurecka and, as always, the guests came beautifully dressed; also the hostesses of the entertainment committee looked lovely. Greeting the guests at the door were Sisters Tillie Helmcamp with Juanita Simons. In charge of this dance was Sister Frances Crossman in a very becoming white gown. Her husband, Orvile Crossman, took charge of the box office. Seating the guests, Brother Orvile Simons was quite busy with Frances.

Being Father's Day Sunday, special prizes were given to the father holding the lucky number on the admission ticket. First a $25 bond was won by L. J. Linbrugger; second, a $25 bond went to Benjamin Schulte and several FREE dance passes were given as usual at dances to lucky fathers.

Monday morning I had the pleasure to visit with Sister Ida Hanka for a while; Pearl, wife of the late E. J. Hanka, gave me a ride and showed me where Sister Hanka lives. It is quite close to where I am located, so I will have the opportunity to see her frequently.

Sister Hanka was in a joyous mood as always and we enjoyed being with her.

Sister Mary Fusig received the sad news from Czechoslovakia of her aged father, Mr. Adam Masek, age 101 years, who died May 23, 1978, in the village of Lopasov, Czechoslovakia. The last time Mary has seen her father was 21 years ago in 1957, when she visited her father, then 80 years old. At that time her daughter, Helen Hegwood, had the privilege to meet her grandfather for the first and last time. Mr. Masek was in good health until his death; he passed away in his sleep. Son of Mary and Joe Fusig has grandchildren and that made it five generations. Our deepest sympathy to the surviving family.

A group of eight lodge members decided to fly to the city of glamor — Las Vegas, Nevada, Thursday, June 8th, for three nights and four days and stayed at the Reviera on the strip. Royal and Laura Warnasch, Steve and Estelle Kelly, Leeland and Dorothy Hensley and the sharp story teller Clifford and Jackie Leyendecker. I was told that Clifford took part in one show to

help to participate in one act. I am surprised Clifford didn't crack some of his jokes of which he has a record made. I know the audience would have enjoyed them.

Besides some gambling they saw the great show at the MGM, Grand Hotel the Hallujah Hollywood, the Lido show at the Stardust and the great Liberace. Of course, they tried the tables and slot machines, but I haven't heard any comments on that venture and investment.

Brother Ray and Sister Gladys Hagan with daughter, Sharon, also visited the magic city, Las Vegas, May 15th, and stayed at the MGM Grand Hotel and saw the show, Hallujah Hollywood, which they enjoyed; it really is something to see. They also enjoyed the Rich Little Show and Cleo Laine. Neither one revealed the extent of their contributing in some way to the welfare of that city of chance; they had a good time and loved it.

Both Ray and Gladys are on our lodge entertainment committee.

Orvile and Frances Grossman made a touring trip of 2,400 miles in 17 days visiting Arkansas, and Memphis, Tennessee; went to Busch Stadium in St. Louis, which was formerly the property of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1940 when ()Mile played with them for a spell.

They also visited with five of their first cousins, which they don't see very often, which they enjoyed.

Next was Kansas City, Denver, and Oklahoma City. They left Houston May 6th and returned home safely Monday, June 22nd, and now they are back in the harness as both are very active lodge members.

Brother Gus and Sister Ann Gerlich departed Friday, June 9th, 1978 to visit relatives in Czechoslovakia, which on their part, was a family tree hunting trip not knowing what or who they will find. Gus' father, Joseph Gerlich, was born in Frenstat July 10th, 1968, (sic) migrated to the United States in the year of 1981 (sic), therefore, Gus had no knowledge of having any living relatives in Czechoslovakia. But, with the help of their chauffeur, Jan Micek, and a very nice young lady at the Opava archives they located five distant cousins living in Frenstat.

A festive reunion took place with all the relatives present. Beautiful memories of hospitable people and

Wednesday, June 28, 1978 the town of Frenstat will be long remembered by Gus and Ann. Gus was the first American by the name Gerlich to visit Frenstat, Czechoslovakia in 54 years; it must have been a touching reunion on both sides.

June the 28th will mark the wedding anniversary of our active members Joe and Della Miksch. to start off, they had a semi-celebration at the Saturday night dance with the Jureckas pla and a long table surrounded by friends. The real celebration, I think, will take place July 7th when they will begin a tour of Las Vegas which will last for several days; lets say honeymooning, and break the bank. Joe and Della were married in Granger, June 28th which will mark 41 years of happy living. Congratulations.

Proud grandparents welcomed their first grandchild after waiting ten long years. Lee and Gerry Doyle drove to Kansas City to greet their granddaughter Patricia Michelle Doyle, born June 3rd, 1978, to their son Pat, and daughter-inlaw Patty Doyle. Lee and Gerry are regular guests at our dances and naturally, were proudly showing pictures of their first addition to the Doyle family. Daughter Peggy is married to Don Mazza for four years, so let's hope you don't have to wait another ten years.

Dear Members: Our lodge held their regular monthly meeting Sunday, June 11th at 4 p.m.

Vice President Ronnie Rieger presided over the meeting in the absence of our president. He also led the members in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. We remained standing to pay respect to our deceased members Charles Hurta, Frank Konakovsky, Herminia Balusek, and Frank Riha.

Secretary Mike Kaiser had the roll call of officers and he also read the minutes of the previous meeting.

Albin Machu gave the treasurer's report and Herbert Riethmeyer gave the property report.

We were happy to have visitors Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klinkovsky and and Lad Zatopek at our meeting.

They each gave their 29-second report which President Adamek usually allows them to have; since the president was not present, they talked a little longer.

Sympathy acknowledgments were from the John Wentrcek and Rosic Srnensky families.

Get-well cards were sent to Emmit Vanecek and Charlie Pish, who were in the hospital.

New members received were Betty Jo Elliott, Christi Michelle Haag, and Kimberly Dawn Caesar.

There were two transfers from Lodge 48, Beyersville: Marsha Kaye Kokes and Mark Gavin Kokes.

A letter was read that we sponsor a blood drive in Taylor; this was tabled until the next meeting.

We also had a letter from Lodge No. 180, Burleson, inviting us to their grand opening and also for us to buy tickets that they are selling.

A report on how the senior members are doing at their social. It was decided that they can invite non-members to attend their socials so there would be a larger crowd and also they would provide their awn food, instead of the lodge furnishing the food.

Youth Leader Melvin Steger gave his report. They had one new member to join and 28 members were present at their meeting. They went to the drag strip June 4th for

their social and they are going to Bastrop Park for their next social and swim party. He also invited everybody to come to YAD July 9th, at Academy.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, July 2nd, at 4 p.m. It will be one week earlier due to YAD, so don't forget the time change.

The day is sponsored by the American Czech Culture Society which consists of the members of all Czech fraternal or cultural societies in Dallas, Fort Worth, Ennis, and vicinity, The Society is inviting all people of Czechoslovak descent to be the most welcome guests and see the programs at four different places, but the main program will be all day at the Band Shell. The Seaton Choral Club, along with singers from West and Waco, areas, will be combining to participate in a special folk art musical drama at the Temple CAC, which will take place Sunday, July 16th.

There will be a matinee and evening performance.

Our final rehearsal before the presentation will be with the Seaton Brass Band, at the CAC on North 3rd, here in Temple, on July 10th, at 8 p.m.

The special 'presentation, July 16th, is a musical drama with dialogue interspersed with music.

The play was written by Brother Nick A. Morris, and will involve the Seaton Brass Band, singers and solo performers. I am told that there will be a nominal admission charge to cover the costs of staging and prpduction.

I have read the play and I want to tell you that it is quite moving.

We should be very proud to be asked to take a part in such a production. The play concerns a poor immigrant family from Mastern Europe and their travels to the U.S. and settling in Texas.

The music will be a blend of the old and new, sure to please all ages. Don't miss it!

The second Tepera Family Reunion was held Saturday, June 10th, 1978, at Marak Hal/ in Marak.

Approximately 100 guests attended from Temple, Cameron, Rogers, Oenaville, Corpus Christi, Texas City, Crosby, Houston, McKinney, Keller, Galveston, Belton, Madras, Oregon and Austin.

The oldest Tepera attending was Mr. Rudolph Tepera, age 73, of Cameron; 4-month-old Grace Brezina, daughter of Johnny and Carol Brezina of Austin, was the youngest; the R. C. Garner family of Madras, Oregon, travelled the farthest distance; and the family with the most children was Dr. anti Mrs. Joe Tepera from McKinney.

The formal opening and dedication of the new hall will get under way with a noon meal on Saturday, followed by the dedication ceremonies, with a dance in the evening, featuring music by Rollin' With The Flow.

The three-day extravaganza will conclude on Sunday, August 27th, with a battle dunce featuring Adamcik's Polkatones and the Texas Czech Playboys.

Watch the Vestnik for further details concerning this gala weekend. It was Brother Pokladnik's and my privilege to be invited to participate in these ground-breaking ceremonies and we look forward to the dedication in August.

(Pictures sent in b7 Pro. - SPJST — SPECIAL FOLK ART MUSICAL DRAMA TO BE PRESENTED AT THE TEMPLE CAC / orhe Immigrants" A special musical drama, sponsored by the Temple Cultural Activities Center (CAC), is being readied for presentation on Sunday, July 16th, 1978. There will be both matinee and evening performances, at 3 and 7 p.m. The presentation will include music by the Seaton Brass Band, a chorus, and solo performers, vocalists, and musicians.

The production will include dialogue by character players, interspersed with music. The play is written by Mr. Nick A. Morris of Temple and is a simple and heartwarming story of an immigrant family and their emigration from a country in Eastern Europe to the United States and Texas. The music will be a blend of the Old World and the New. The story will evoke happiness, nostalgia, sadness and pathos. Special colored slides and audio-visual aids will be used in conjunction with the music and dialogue to tell the story.

Some of the musical numbers by the band and chorus will include such Czech favorites as "Hej Slovane!" "Boie co's mai," and "America The Beautiful". The cabaret scene in the second act will include a mixture of Old-Time and favorite Country-Western numbers such as "Clear Cool Water,", "Twilight Time", "Misty", "Bluest

Heartache Of The Year", and "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain".

Other favorites heard throughout the performance will be the famous Kmoch march "Koline, Koline", "Blue Skirt Waltz", "Clarinet Polka", "A Ji Sim", "Old Comrades March", "Wonderful World", an excerpt from the US Air Force Song, "Oh, God of Loveliness", and DvoYik's "Goin' Home".

Colored slides prepared especially for this presentation will include religious scenes and scenes from the late President John F. Kennedy's funeral procession in Washington, D.C. The Immigrants" conveys a simple message because the production is essentially a folk drama The players will include Mrs. Marie Zvolanek of Temple as Mama, Anton Pokorny of Taylor as the father (Tata), Judy Hyzak of Granger as the daughter (Anna), and Brian Vanicek of Temple as the son (Pepik). Bernie Gebala will narrate portions of the play.

Singers involved will be the Seaton Choral Group and singers from the Waco-West, Houston and Taylor areas. Gary Moore, director of the CAC, will serve as technical director. Nick Morris directs the Seaton Brass Band and is in charge of the overall production.

There will be a nominal admission charge to cover the cost of staging, production, and use of the CAC facilities. Those 13 and over will be admitted for $2; those ages 7 through 12, for $1, and children under 7 will be admitted free.

Tickets are available at the Cultural Activities Center at 3011 North 3rd in Temple and may also be purchased by mail by sending a check or money order for the tickets payable to the Cultural Activities Center, and addressed to the CAC, P.O. Box 3292, Temple, Tx 76501. A self-addressed stamped envelope must be included. Those desiring tickets should specify whether they want matinee or evening tickets and how many free tickets for children under 7. The auditorium seats 489 people and the number of tickets will be limited to that number for each performance, including free tickets to those under 7.

Those who have read the play and reviewed the music that will be presented have remarked that it is a moving story, told in simple

form, and predict that there will not be a dry eye in the house during certain portions of the play.

The public is cordially invited. Get your tickets early because it is expected that there will be a sellout for both performances.

Refreshments will be available during the intermission between the second and third acts.

Several folks were interested; some had known him personally and wondered what happened to him. My aunt, Vlasta Ivicic, of Taylor, sent me a clipping that she had saved, and I called the courthouse (in Belton) for information, which I am enclosing. I hope you will find it worth publishing in the Vestnik so that anyone interested could read it.

BLESSINGS ON THE LITTLE MAN Henry Wadsworth Longfellow immortalized the barefoot boy in his poem which begins -"Blessings on the little man, Barefoot boy with cheeks of tan, With his red lips redder still, Kissed by strawberries on the hill."

But it remained for 0. H. Juren, staff correspondent of the Temple Telegram, to discover the barefoot man. Here is what he said about him: Doubleheader, Sept. 13 — A 71year-old man who goes barefooted and bareheaded all the year around, thinks he can challenge any man his age in a foot race.

Joseph Burst, born in Hermanice, Czecho Slovakia, Nov. 1, 1861, lives in the home of Walter Luksa.

He walks barefooted summer and winter and never minds the water and mud until the temperature gets below 40.

Wednesday, June 28, 1978 when the summer sun gets too hot. However, he doesn't like them, and takes his hat off when it gets cloudy.

Burst has never been sick a day in his life and naturally, has never had a doctor. However, he says he should have had one when he was 3 years old.

When he was still in Europe, his brother was taking him for a sled ride and the sled slipped off the edge of a cliff. He was buried in 20 feet of snow and it was some time before he was dug out. A family living nearby took him in their home and took care of him.

He thinks if he had had a doctor then he might have been healthier now.

Mr. Burst is still able to work his share. He picks cotton every day and picks as much as 109 lbs. a day.

He has never been to an American school. Although he has not gone to school since he was in his native land, he speaks, understands and reads English. He knows the presidents of the United States, and he knows all the states. He reads without glasses, never having had a pair on.

Since his arrival in America in 1890, Burst has lived in almost every section of Texas. He has lived at Fayetteville, Ettinger, West, Cameron, Buckholts, Rogers, Cyclone, and in Bell County. * * Recorded in Bell County (Courthouse), in Vol. 5, page 437, is the following: "Joseph Burst was admitted to the Bell County Home in Belton in January of 1937. He was an inmate there for three months, then became insane. Since the Home was not equipped to care for mental patients, he was transferred to the Bell County Jail. He died within three days, cause of death — myocarditis insanity. He died March 24, at the age of 75, and was buried in Belton."

From The District Youth Counselors DISTRICT V YOUTH COUNSELOR Now that I have returned home from camp and have rested for a few days, I would like to thank each of you who attended for being such good campers and helping to make our camp such a success.

I especially thank my assistant, Brother Dan Berry, for all his help and for all the great crafts he taught at camp, and also to our cooks, Sisters Betty Griffin, Rosie Tumis, Betty Dobesh, Lynn Lesak and Mary Wahlberg. The food was better than we have ever had before and I know each of you enjoyed it, because I heard many good reports before we returned home. My two new Leaders in Training, Jerri Lynn Poston and Linda Wehring, did an outstanding job and I could not have done without them; they helped in so many ways. Also a special thanks to Mark Wahlberg for serving as

life guard.

Last, but not least, a special thanks to Sister Dorothy Massey; camp would not be camp without our State Youth Director. She too, always helps in so many ways.

I want to remind you once again of the District V Youth Achievement Day coining up July 30th, at Lodge 88. Hopefully, yoll are still as inspired about YAD as you were at camp. DISTRICT II YOUTH COUNSELOR District II YAD will be held at Lodge 177, Academy, Sunday, July 9th.

District II youth camp will be again held in two separate sessions with the teenagers attending the first session starting at 10:30 a.m.

July 29th and will end at noon Aug. 1st, and the teens will go home. The juniors will arrive and they will stay until 10:30 a.m. Aug. 4th and then return home. Camp application blanks must be received by your district youth counselor on or before July 9th, 1978. More details on this later.

There will be a youth leaders', assistants' an_d chaperones' meeting at Lodge 29 in Taylor July 17th at 7:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting will be to make final camp decisions and assignments.

Then on Aug. 13th we will have our District II fall meeting which is a fun and fellowship day. This will also be held at Lodge 29 in Taylor.

First-place winners were Kay Neuendorff, Mark Januszewski, David Januszewski, Shannon Raska, Kristy Schulz (received two), Andy Hart, Julie Hart, Mary Esther Hart, Virginia Bednar, Kim Schubert and Chris Kocurek; these were all winners in craft.

In talent the winners were Amy Kocurek and Deidra Kocurek. Amy did an acrobatic-jazz dance to the tune, "Rubberband Man." Deidra did a twirling routine to "Staying Alive."

In royalty, Deidra Kocurek was a queen contestant from our lodge and she was chosen queen, from a field of six other girls. Her duchess is Kim Schubert. Also in royalty, David Januszewski ran for king with Andy Hart as his duke.

David was chosen runner-up.

All of the first place winners will go on to state to compete against the other districts Aug. 20th in Temple. We wish them the best of luck and congratulations to all of them!

Dear Readers, The Robstown Youth Club went on a skating party on June 17th.

The members met at 1 p.m. and went by cars to Skateland. At the skating rink the members skated and entered the many games played there. Everyone skated and had a lot of fun, along with the skating came the falls, but this discouraged no one. The members then went to Wendy's, a nearby restaurant, for something cool to drink. Then at 4 p.m. the members arrived at home.

Once again it is camp and YAD time. I believe most youth members enjoy their camp and YAD and everyone really looks forward to it. For some youth clubs, camp and District YAD are not far away.

I hope all members in all youth clubs really enjoy and have a lot of fun in these two important events in the youth club.

Dear Readers, At our last youth club meeting, President Rusty Bay called our group to order.

Penny Spitzenberger led the pledge and our meeting was under way.

One item discussed was whether to buy another speaker for the club after the misfortune of having them stolen and only one returned.

It was put to a vote and this issue passed.

Another item of discussion was slumber parties. Everyone seemed to enjoy the idea of the parties, one for the girls and one for the boys. Our youth leaders, Nellene Spacek and Marie Spitzenberger, will plan them for us.

We also talked about the possibility of buying a projector and ordering films to show at various

times. This is going to be looked into by our leaders.

With no more business, we then drew for the door prizes. Pattie Tydlacka won first prize and Russell Spacek won second prize Then the meeting was adjourned.

age 68, who died in Southland Villa Nursing Home, May 25th, 1978, after a long illness.

He was born in Bell County, Feb. 17th, 1910. His parents were John and Frances Bartek Hutka. He was a retired farmer and carpenter.

He was a member of the Buckholts SPJST Lodge No. 15, which he joined in December, 1948.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gommert Funeral Home in Rogers, with Rev. Milton Maly officiating. Burial was in Seaton Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Hutka, of Rogers; two sons, Glenn Hutka and Anton Hutka, Jr. of Temple; two sisters, Mrs. Millie Baird and Mrs. Mary Vojtasek, both of Temple; one brother, John Hutka of Temple; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers were nephews.

Brother Cinek was a student at San Antonio's MacArthur High

School where he scored in the top ten in the nation in Educational Development Test. He received the highest grade average in the 8th grade at St. Pius X School.

He was awarded the student athletic award.

He had been a member of Lodge 66, Waco, most of his life and will be greatly missed.

Funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, April 11th, at 3 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sinton. Burial was in Sinton Cemetery.

Brother Raska was born Sept.

14th, 1908. In 1931 he married Emma Kaspar, who preceded him in death Oct. 26th, 1977. He moved to the Sinton area in 1931 from Aqua Dulce where he was a farmer until .he retired.

Brother Raska joined the SPJST Dec. 13, 1933, at Lodge No. 152, Aqua Dulce and transferred his membership in Jan. 1970 to Lodge No. 117, Robstown, where he was a member until his death.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond Raska of Odem, Henry Joe Raska of Aqua Dulce, Jimmy Raska of Lake Jackson; and one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn (J. T.) Hulme of St. Charles, Missouri; one brother, Peter Raska of Victoria; nine grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the undersigned Resolution Committee of Lodge Hvezda Texas No. 47 Seaton in behalf of the entire membership, wish to express our heart-felt sympathy to the family of our dear departed sister, ANNA PSENCIK 82, of 812 East Central, Temple, who passed away very unexpectedly Friday, May 26th, 1978 (on her birthday) in Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple after a few hours illness.

Sister Psencik was born Anna Palla in Czechoslovakia on May 26th, 1896. She had lived in Bell County most of her life.

She and her husband Joe E. Psencik were married in 1914 and they were engaged in farming in the Cyclone-Seaton-Oscar Communities, east of Temple until his death. She moved to Temple where she was employed at King's Daughters Hospital in Dietetics and at Charcoal Inn. She was known to everyone as "Grandma Psencik." Sister Psencik was a member of the Temple Brethren Church and our lodge SPJST No. 47 in Seaton.

Survivors include a son Johnnie Psencik of Temple; daughter Mrs. Josephine Shenkir of Bryan; sister Mrs. Janie (John J.) Pechal of Belton; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Sister Psencik was preceded in death by her husband Joe E. Psencik and two sons Alfred Psencik of Temple and Edwin Psencik of Red Ranger.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 27th at 3 p.m. at the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Temple, with Rev. Albert Michalik officiating. Interment followed in the Seaton National Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Brother Sandera, a retired carpenter, was born Aug. 8, 1894 at Flatonia, the son of the late Jos and Apolena Cunda Sandera. On Sept. 20, 1921 he was united in marriage with Mary Faltysek at Praha, Texas.

He resided in LaGrange since 1972.

He was a World War I veteran, a member of the American Legion Post No. 102, the SPJST and Holy Society.

Surviving are a son and daughter-inlaw, Edwin E. and Geraldine Sandera of Houston; two sisters Mrs. Vlasta Bordovsky of Houston and Frances Rab of LaGrange; one brother L. J. Sandera of LaGrange; two grandchildren Kathryn Ann and Michael Sandera of Houston.

LAURA KULHANEK BACA who died at ths age 68 in an Austin hospital.

A resident of Columbus and formerly of LaGrange, Sister Baca was born August 20th, 1909 in Colorado County, the daughter of the late Albert and Annie Tomastik Kulhanek.

Survivors include her husband Victor Baca of Columbus; one on and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Laura Baca of Houston; seven sisters and one brother.

ALBINA JANICEK who died at the age of 53 at the Ranch House Motel at Temple.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.

May 24 at the Green Funeral Home in Cameron, with Rev. Milton Maly officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.

Sister Janicek had been staying at the Temple motel for the past few months; she was an employee of Temple Products where she had been working for ten years.

Survivors include sons, Willie F. Janicek of New Orleans and Joe Janicek of Temple; daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Dorner of Burlington; brother, Robert Tomasek of Cameron; and two grandchildren.

7. Although the accent is always on the first syllable, it does not lengthen a short vowel following it, and we must not yield to the temptation to STRESS long vowels outside the first sylable. The length or shortness of a vowel has no bearing on the stress.

8 Stress is not as strongly marked in Czech as in English, German, or Russian. The intonation (melody of the speech — its "musicalness") that is the rise and fall in the pitch of the voice, is not made up from as many tunes and patterns as in the above three languages.

1. In Czech, the accent is invarion the first syllable: PRA-ce, SKA kat, gico-la.

2. In the case of 3 or more syllables, there is a secondary accent on the 3rd syllable: PRA-co •A-ti, VZDE-li-VA-ti ,ZA-palo-VA-ti.

3. One syllable prepositions form one single unit with the word following, and are always accepted: Do Prahy (doprahy), po vojtuf (povojne) 4. If the preposition consists of only one consonant v, z, s, k — it must be joined in a single sound with the word following K VAM (KVAM not KE YAM); V Novem Yorku (not ye Novem Yorku).

5. Before other gt oups of consonants these prepositions are said in full and accented: 'YE stkedu, KE nme, SE mnou, ZE 4koly.

6. Prepositions are pronounced in full if the word following begins with the same sound: VE Vidal, KE kostelu, SE sestrou, ZE xonne.
