FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The SPJST Directory of district and lodge secretaries appeared in last week's issue, and you are encouraged to keep this directory for your information. Every Monday morning Sister Sefcik and myself are here early to check the final details before the presses start rolling the Vestnik off, however, try as we may, sometimes a mistake will occur. You will notice that, at the very top on page 16 is stated: May 1977, which, of course, should read, May 1978; it wasn't changed when sent to us and we both overlooked it and only noticed it after about 1,000 Vestniks were printed, which was too late. Please change your date to 1978.

One of our acquaintances used the expression: After some time of thinking, it will all jell in your mind. It seems that this is true. In the recent month or so things have somehow come into focus either because we have had a coincidence of similar conversation or began to become more conscious of our local lodges' problems. As stated in the last issue, Sunday, May 7th we were in Corpus Christi at Lodge No. 79 for the District VII meeting. A picture of the interior of their new building, now being constructed, is in this issue, along with some pictures from the district meeting, the rest
Heritage .. . There's never a rose in all the world But makes some green spray sweeter; There's never a wind in all the sky But makes some bird's wing fleeter; There's never a star but brings to heav'n Same silv'ry radiance tender; There's never a cloud that murks the sky But crowns the sunset splendor. There's never a robin but thrills some heart, His dawnlike gladness voicing Nature gives us all some small, sweet way To set the world rejoicing. There's nothing like our Heritage, That stays with us in our daily stride Let us cherish it forever, For it is the basic ingredient of our pride. will appear later. While there, one of the older members(name slipped from my memory), made this statement: You know, Brother Sefeik, sometimes I'm a little afraid. On our loan of $300,000 or more, the 6% interest alone will amount to $18,000 a year or $1,500 a month and with utilities and upkeep, that all adds up. Level headed thinking. Of course, we wish them the best, but it is
good to keep these things in mind. Our few moments with Brother Stasa just did not allow time for discussion of his thoughts on this subject. Recently, a member of one of our local lodges, completely out of debt, came by and stated that their dances were not producing very much revenue and that it takes their refreshments and kitchen to allow them, to meet expenses. He said the bands cost very much and as you increase admission your attendance drops. Evidently inflation is leaving its mark everywhere. Yours truly remembers back in 1948 when we at Lodge 88 would pay a band $80 for the night and charge 80 cents for admission. Sometimes we would only take in $16 or so in admissions and the lodge officers had a rather wistful look on their faces, however, we made it and survived! One member at a certain local lodge at their dedication stated that they have to rely on their social nights to a very great extent. a

In this issue are the excerpts from the minutes of the Supreme Lodge quarterly meeting held April 11th, 12th, and 13th. As usual, they are rather vague as far as explicit details are concerned and since some pertain to your editor or things known to this writer, this will be an effort to further explain
