FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The District V spring meeting held Sunday, March 12th at La Marque, hosted by Lodge No. 173, Galveston, was held on a very nice sunshiny day and had a fair representative group of members in attendance.

After brief preliminaries pertinent to the meeting, a brief memorial program was made rather impressive by the inclusion of the very touching and sentimental Czech song "Ifibitove," sung by Ms. Gavranovic, accompanied by Mr. Fee on the accordion, and concluded by participation of their youth. Then followed a brief youth program and proceeded to the official business of the meeting.

These particulars are rather well contained in District V Secretary Tillie Helmcamp's minutes in this issue. SL Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas, Jr., is to be complimented for his presentation and explanation of pertinent facts which bear on the actual figures at the end of the year regarding all of our SL departments; after all, that is what our membership is interested in. This goes right back to the saying or statement this editor use to hear as a youth in the farmers' agricultural meetings, right after the 1929 stock market crash and during the Great Depression of the early '30. With the sound reputation of heritage, it behooves all of us to take an active part in securing or encouraging good new members in order that the memberships' growth in the future will exceed every year and continue so that in the years ahead.

It's the editor's wish while time marches on that members of all gages will encounter prospective members who will some day become part of the sound and strong foundation Society that our Czech pioneers established in July, 1897, and which will soon be celebrating its 81st anniversary. * * The West adult Beseda dancers will perform again at Baylor University this March 29th.

NEWSBRIEFS Mrs. Frank J. (Rosie) Cocek, 83, of West died at 6:55 a.m. March 16th, in the West hospital. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m.

Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West, with Rev. Wm. Benish as celebrant. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, West. Sister Cocek was a longtime member of Lodge 54, West, where she served on various committees.

Tammi Renee was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dobecka, Jr., of Elm Mott, March 11th, in Hillcrest Hospital, Waco. The little girl weighed 8 lbs., 10 ozs. The mother is the former Peggy Elaine Bartosh of Abbott. Tammi was welcomed home by her proud 3-year-old brother, Kevin Ray. Grandparents are Mrs. John Bartosh of Abbott and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dobecka, Sr., of West. Brother Dobecka is president of Lodge 6, Cottonwood.

Great-grandparents include Mrs. Katie Krizan, Mrs. Adolph Kubitza, Mrs. Mary Bartosh, and Mr. L. a Dobecka. Most of the family members are enrolled in the SPJST Society. * * Albert H. Marek of Abbott died Saturday afternoon, March 11th, in a Hillsboro hospital, at the age of 59. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at National Cemetery near West, with Rev. Robert Burgess officiating. Brother Marek was a member of Lodge 54.

Both f of these sisters are from Lodge 88. Keep up the good work for the remainder of the year. We have a total of 73 sales representatives and only 19 made sales. What has happened to the rest of you?

Let's all try to set a goal and do someone a good deed by selling to the whole family a lasting gift by having security for father, protection for mother, and opportunity for the children. Where else can you buy such a good deal than with the SPJST? They have all kinds of opportunities for the young and old.

To all of you members who have just a $1,000 policy, it is time to check your plans, what you have with the company you work for and what you will have when you retire because you may find out you have nothing for yourself and your family.

We had two wonderful speakers at the Supreme Lodge: they were Joe Cook and Chuck Gaines and they were great. Wahlberg of Lodge 88, and myself. We all came back all inspired and all are hoping we, can help someone with their insurance problems; we will also try to help all of you at our seminar, so please circle May 13, 1978, on your calendar, the date of the seminar at Lodge 88. It will be an all-day class and we will have our new rate books by then and there will be a lot of changes, so it will be to your benefit to attend.

We will have our annual banquet on April 30, 1978 at Lodge 172 Pasadena, so circle this date.

Going back to our sales in District V for January and February, we have only written 124 members and $425,000 in sales and, as you know, our quota has been raised to $4,400,000, so I would like for all you sales representatives to shake the dust off your rate books and put them to use. If you have any problems please feel free to call me or write and I will try to help you with your problems. Our quota per month is $367,000 and we missed both months, so hope by the month of March we can all get on the right track and bring up our sales.

Upon the resignation of Brother Eric Stein, our new president, Brother Sidon Tumis called the meeting to order and all members and visitors present stood and ,recited the pledge of allegiance and officers' reports were given.

LODGE NO. 10'7, FLORESVILLE Dear Members, Lodge 107 met at the lodge Sunday, March 5th at 3:30 p.m. President Bayer called the meeting to order and the members were led in the pledge by Roxanne Bayer.

Officers' roll was called and Treasurer Henry Sralla was absent. The minutes were read and approved as corrected.

Youth Leader Polly Bayer reported on the activities the youth club is planning for the next two months; Sunday, March 12th, we attended Holiday-on-Ice, and a record hop is scheduled for March 31st. All the adults are invited to any or all of the youth activities.

President Bayer will again teach wood jewelry at Longhorn. He is also prepared to hold a class locally if anyone is interested. Phyllis Purchis is planning to attend Longhorn RL this year. An Easter egg hunt was held for the smaller members and visitors. The youth club is also starting a coin collection with some coins that were found when the storage building

was moved, An invitation from the Robstown Youth Club was read inviting the youth club to join them at Astro World on Labor Day Weekend.

District YAD will be held in Floresville this year and some plans are being made for that day. The lodge is looking into purchasing a piano to be used at YAD. Seven new policies were issued to the following members: Terri Rose Burleson, Karen Gay Williams, Robert Glenn Bayer, Deborah Sue Bayer, Ronald Allan Bayer, Sherrill Ann Bayer and Betty Jo Bayer.

Welcome to all of you and I hope you find the Society enjoyable.

President Bayer reported on the local activities correspondence concerning tax forms 990 and 990T were read and explained. He also read the fraternal activities report. When all these activities are reported, it makes a very impressive report.

The storage building is moved!

Thanks to everyone who had a part in this project. Special thanks to Billy Pavliska for inviting several hard-working non-members to help.

The meal the ladies brought was enjoyed by all and fraternalism was in evidence everywhere, when everyone pitched in and helped wherever needed. I'm not mentioning names because I would be sure to leave out someone and feelings might be hurt.

Another work day wil be needed now to complete the project. Plans now are to convert the building into a barbecue house. Rex Purchis and John Burleson volunteered to put an entrance at the back of the hall to make it more convenient whenever we're having a barbecue.

Memorial Fund: $10 from Libby S. Bayer in memory of John and Marie Svoboda and another $10 in memory of John Svoboda„ Jr. A discussion was held on dances to be held in the future. It was decided that we would have a chicken barbecue dinner followed by an afternoon dance. Bob Bayer and Rex Purchis are to find some bands to play at the hall.

It was also decided that we would put up a new sign on the hall. The one we have is clearly seen at night whenever the lights are on but cannot be seen during the day. Several suggestions were given. This project is to be corn-

pleted in the near future.

All the members were urged to attend the Dist. VII spring meeting in Corpus Christi May 7th.

Roxanne Bayer won the door prize.

Several of our officers were planning to attend the workshop at Hallettsville, March 18th.

Refreshments were served to a very nice attendance and a social hour followed.

Our next meeting will be April 2nd at 2:30 p.m. Our meeting will be held earlier so that some members may attend another function at Poth.

LaVerne Cabla gave the board report. All the chairs have been sold, except two, and the eightfoot tables; these will be selling for $20 each.

The new ceiling and air-conditioning unit installation is coming along fine; the hall really will look different when all the remodeling is, finished.

A motion was passed to buy circulator fans for the hall and a deep fryer for the kitchen.

We will be selling a used air-conditioner (a Fedders 4-ton unit) for $400 or the best offer. Contact E. J. Geistman or Dan Hoelscher.

A letter was received from the Supreme Lodge concerning the upcoming officers' workshop.

The Auditing Committee stated that they needed to check the books and the Hall Committee stated that they had collected several rents.

There were no new members.

Under unfinished business the upcoming annual barbecue was set for April 30th.

After the financial secretary had given his report, the meeting was adjourned until April 2nd at 2 p.m.

7 LODGE NO. 179, WARRENTON Dear Members and Friends: Lodge 179 met for their regular meeting in the Guest Room of Warrenton Store with an extremely fine attendance.

The meeting was called to order

by President Harold Bergmann, who also led the group in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Minutes were read by Secretary Jeanette Schoenst and Lee Leonhardt gave the treasurer's report; both were accepted as given.

Dorothy Oltmann gave the financial standing and also read the names of our new members, namely, Charles Thomas Schmidt, Natalie Dawn Schmidt, Edwin Bartosh, Harvey Albers, Sister Harvey Albers, Harry Albers, Jerry Marusik, Kathryn Marusik and Allison Marie Koska.

The above members were all warmly accepted into our lodge.

We surely hope that they will be able to attend our meetings and participate in various activities.

Next on the agenda was the presentation of the 50-year fraternal , pin to our first recipient, Brother John Marusik, who was transferred from Lodge 51, Ellinger to our lodge in 1976. District I Director John Kubena had the privilege to present this pin to Brother Marusik. He did this in an extremely impressive ceremony.

Brother Kubena emphasized that such long, loyal, faithful fraternal membership sets an excellent example for our newer members. He also stated he could vividly see by the splendid attendance that our lodge does not only furnish fraternal benefits, but nice fellowship. He further said that it too was a privilege that he could be present and enjoy the evening with us.

Sister Evelyn Mikeska accompanied by her son and his wife were also in our midst. Sister Mikeska thanked the members for the beautiful spray and for everything anyone did for her family in her time of bereavement. She also emphasized that it is wonderful to see that we are constantly getting so many new members and to keep up the good work!

The lodge is thankful and appreciates the monetary gift from our interested member, Brother Aubrey Hackemack, from across the seas. It is nice to know that he

is helpful in the upkeep, growth, and preservation of our organization.

Due to the recent letter from the Supreme Lodge where President Morris is requesting our lodge's history, President Bergmann appointed Edith Pfeiffer to compile our history and submit it to the Supreme Lodge office.

The Food Committee suggested the lodge furnish several kinds of sandwiches for our next regular meeting; anyone wishing to add something to this menu may do so by bringing cake, cookies, kolache or pies. Refreshments will be furnished by an interested meihber.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Then members and guests enjoyed hot dogs provided by our lodge, cakes, cookies, pies, kolache, and chips brought by some active members.

Fraternally, Edith Pfeiffer Reporter SPJST — LODGE NO. 188, CENTERVILLE Dear Members and Friends: Due to bad weather and unforeseen difficulties; we were forced to postpone formal dedication of the new building until April 30th. This date is final, but we will begin to use the building before this date. If the work is completed and everything goes as planned, we will begin to have dances in the new facilities March 18th and thereafter, on Saturday nights.

There will not be any more dances held at Old Carver School. All future activities will be held at the new building. Admission for the dances in the new building will be $2.50 per person except for special occasions. No drinks or food will be allowed to be brought into the new building during the dances.

Everyone is reminded if they have not made a donation to our tables and chairs fund to please do so. The TV donations are still coming in and it will be given to the lucky card holder on April 30th.

Editor Rudy Sefcik reminded all to watch the Bulletin Board for dates for youth activities and district meetings. Chairman Jerome Ermis reported for the Auditing Committee, stating that they found everything in order.

Lodge 88 Dramatic Club Hlahol Director Tim Kostom announced that a beautiful Czech operetta will be performed at Lodge 88 on Sunday, April 23, at 2 p.m. This excellent play, "Romance of a Beautiful Gypsy," was brought all the way from Yugoslavia; it is one of the old-time plays and is sure to be one you will never forget. A good dinner precedes the play and a free dance follows the play! Be sure to mark your calendar so you won't forget this special date. All you who have parents, whether they live near or far, try to bring them to the play; it would be the nicest gift you could give them, for I know how much my mother, Mrs. Frank Krejci, used to enjoy them.

Brother Kostom also stated that the Choral Group still has the Convention Records for sale.

The following officers were reelected: President Jerry Prochazka, 1st Vice President Norval Grossman, 2nd Vice President Alvin Sefcik, Treasurer Tommy Lostak, Youth Counselor Richard Wahlberg, Asst. YC Dan Berry, and Flag Bearer Mark Wahlberg. I declined for secretary and Sister Pearl Hanka was elected. Sister Mary Oordray of Lodge 173 asked for a standing ovation for me, and I thanked the members. Then Brother Prochazka made some more kind remarks and asked for another ovation for me, and I can tell you, dear members, I will never forget this!

Brother Prochazka asked for a site for the fail meeting. Brother Sidon Tumis moved that the site be chosen by the district officers, seconded by Brother Hanus, arid so approved. Lodge 173 gave away many door prizes. The meeting was followed by a free dance with the popular Clarence Baca Band providing the music.

I want to thank all officers, especially President Prochazka, Alvin Sefcik, and Victor Peter, and all members for their cooperation during my seven years as secretary. My best wishes and congratulations go to Sister Hanka; I know she will make you a great secretary. God bless you all.

LODGE NO. 54, WEST The first quarterly meeting of the year was convened at 3 p.m.

March 12th by President Ernest Zahirniak, followed by the usual procedure, including a silent tribute in memory of Brother Albert H. Marek, Mrs. Frank Uptmore (mother of Ernie Uptinere) and Marguerite Wright of Iowa (the mother of our financial secretary and treasurer, Bob Wright). Sincere sympathy is extended to all the families and may their loved ones rest in peace.

In the absence of Secretary Frank Cocek (whose wife, Rosie, was in the hospital), President Zahirnia,k called on Maxine Sefcik to acknowledge the correspondence, to read the minutes, and to take the minutes of the meeting.

Communications were from Lodge 79, Corpus Christi, and Lodge 178, Longview-Kilgore than,king the lodge for its monetary donations toward their new lodge buildings.

Sister Sefcik commented on their grand opening and related that Lodge 178 was appreciative of the donation, Lodge 54 membership extends its best wishes for continued growth.

Youth Leader Mona Zahirniak reported on the club's activities sand that our /50'-year member, Christine Hruska, will be honored by the youth club with a corsage.

The pin and corsage presentations were then made to Sister Hruska by Lodge 54 president and youth leader. Sister Hruska expressed her appreciation and stayed for the remaining evening. She was given a standing ovation for her loyal membership. Congratulations to you and may good health prevail for a long time. (I wish to add: Sister Hruska is the widow of our past financial secretary, Brother Raymond Hruska, and a former West postmaster.)

Other business concerned the needed improvements to accommodate the kitchen's facilities.

A motion was made and passed to authorize the building manager to check into the cost of the item involved.

Brother Wright was then called on to give an explanation on the certain business aspects between Ross and West lodges.

Prior to adjournment announcements were made mainly pertaining to the Officers' Workshop and the District III spring meeting.

During the fellowship, Brother Frank Cocek, our secretary, with his youngest daughter, Mrs. Virginia Pickle, from Fair Oaks, Calif., stopped by and enjoyed a brief stay. She came to West to be with her very ill mother, Sister Rosie Cocek, a long-time member of Lodge 54. It was a pleasure meeting Mrs. Pickle.

(Post-meeting note): Regrettably, I must inform you of the passing away of Sister Rosie Cocek at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, March 16th, in a local hospital.

She had held several responsible positons in Lodge 54, served on various committees, and at the time of her death she was a member of the Resolution Committee.

To Brother Frank, her husband, three children, and nine grandchildren, we the members of Lodge 54 extend our deepest sympathy to the family. May she rest in peace.

Our visitors were then recognized as Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brdecka of Rosenberg. Sister Brdecka is District VI DYC; she spoke to the lodge on the various SPJST activities planned for the youth. We enjoyed their visit.

Youth Leader Helen Zabransky then gave her report on the youth club's activities. She also asked Charles Holy, Minter Galetka and August Holub to be judges for the egg decorating contest for the youth.

The youth club then presented a program consisting of a game, al-

so participating with the youth were Sister Toni Galetka and Sister Roeber. It was a lot of fun.

Youth Leader Helen Zabransky announced that the Easter egg hunt for the youth will be held Saturday, April 1st at the Grant Building beginning at 10 a.m.

Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes of the February meeting which were approved. Correspondence followed.

The members were reminded of the officers' seminar to be held in Hallettsville.

Refund checks were given out and the meeting adjourned. Refreshments and lunch were served.

March birthdays honored were Ida Neubauer, Hermina Vasek, and August Holub. Sister Vasek won the birthday cake.

Fraternally, Patsy Zabransky Reporter - SPJ ST — A GLIMPSE OF LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Ray Jurecka's mixed dance music entertained our guests in our popular Chandelier Ballroom Saturday, March 11th, and everyone had a good time. The hosting committee was quite busy until everyone was seated. Brother Homer Alexander was in charge of the dance that evening and attending to the box office duties, while his sweet wife, Rita, with Jane Custard, both smartly dressed in long gowns, greeted the guests at the door. Chuck Custard and Norval Crossman escorted the guests to the tables. Bennie Kocich was around to take care of whatever came up as he was pinch-hitting for Harley Cox. I was very pleased to see my friends Harry and Millie Wheeler at Table 26; we had a nice chat and reminisced by-gone days. Harry, now retired, worked with my husband, Frank, at Shell Oil Co. for many years and they are frequent visitors to our dances and, besides, they enjoyed our old facilities for years at 1140 Robbie at 20th Street, so you can imagine how many years the Wheelers have

It was so nice to see Johnnie and Judy Sindel at the dance with friends Herman and Margaret Liebsher, Ed and Agnes Mienlka, Royal and Laura Warnasch, Franklin and Almeda Bravenec, and, of course, I think I still can class them as newlyweds, they seem to be happy as larks — Jackie and Clifford Layendecker. You two, Johnnie and Judy, let yourselves be seen more often! You know you can't find better company elsewhere and besides, dancing is very healthy, my doctor tells me. All made a nice and happy group.

Brother Bill Rezek is at home from Heights Hospital where he spent several weeks; we all are very happy that you are at home recuperating and doing so well. I know Marie is a good nurse and is taking good care of you, so behave and follow orders and take it easy.

Frank and Margaret Bohae celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Feb. 25th, with a dinner at the Railhead Restaurant given by their daughter, Barbara, who is married to Steve Fowler, and daughter, Susan, who is a junior high teacher in Austin. Frank and Margaret were married Feb. 26, 1928 and are very proud of their granddaughter Melisa Fowler, age 12.

District V meeting, held at La Marque, and hosted by Lodge No. 173, Galveston, Sunday, March 11, was very nice. The attendance was fair and the proceedings interesting. The memorial service was impressive.

The youth program with Lodge No. 88 Beseda dancers was very nice; the Beseda dancers, which was a new group of eight youngsters, performed very well considering that Margaret Allbritton had such a short time to teach them the dance. Congratulations, Margaret.

I had the pleasure to attend this meeting and enjoy the ride offered me by Tim and Rosalee Kostom and in the company of Pearl Hanka, now the newly elected secretary of District Five. Tillie Helracamp held this office for District V for seven years, and very efficiently, I might add, but would not hear of being re-elected again.

Sister Mary Cardray of Lodge No. 173 made a motion to give Tillie a

My dear friend, Annie Steiner, member of Lodge No. 84, Dallas, departed from our midst March 4th, 1978 and services were held Monday, March 6th, at 1 p.m. in DOA% I am grieved at not being able to attend the services; my connections for the trip someway got mixed up and I was not there to bid Annie goodbye. Annie was like a daughter to me and she used to call me her second mother. She and her brother, Frank, spent many a school vacation at our home and my two boys with them in Dallas, as all four were close in their ages. Annie Steiner will be in my memory as long as I live; she was down to earth and a true friend. May she rest in peace.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Our last monthly meeting was held Sunday, March 5th, at 2 p.m. with Flag Bearers Vincent Schiller and Rex May (substituting in the absence of Josef Morris) leading the assembly in the pledge to the flag.

Roll call of officers and sales representatives was read by Secretary Dolores "Skrabanek, who also read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were approved as read.

Correspondence included a thank-your message from the Ralph Kohutek family for the getwell card Ralph received while in the hospital; 6, thank-you was also received from the family of deceased member, Brother Nick De Maria, for the memorials; a note from Brother Thomas A. Hurta of Chicago for the invitation to receive his 50-year pin; the mortuary dues from the SL; a thank-you note from Sister Rosa Schneider for the corsage, the cake, the pin, and to those who prepared the lunch after the meeting; and a letter from Brother Nick A. Morris, president of the Supreme Lodge regarding the necessity of filing forms 990 and 990T correctly and on time.

Those reported on the sick list at the meeting were Zollie Leah Marek and Pat Winkler. Since the meeting Brother William (Bill) Chaloupka has checked into the hospital for surgery. Hope all of these named are improved, healthwise, when they read this. Our thoughts are with you, that good health will again prevail in your life.

The officers' and chairmen's reports were not so good last month.

New: members accepted were: Melanie Jo Koslovsky, Raymond G. Peterek, John Benjamin Wilkinson, Monica Lucille Mikeska, and Coleta Sue Kunkel.

The board of trustees' minutes were read by Sister Ruby Bolton, treasurer, in the absence of Lillian Kosarek.

Brother J. D. Chlapek was wishing he was a sales representative, so he was told to get with it.

Sister Evyon Kurecka, youth leader, next reported that the youth club members present totaled 40, two visitors and 2 adults.

The social was planned for Sunday, March 19th, at Temple Lake Park. She reported that 41 youth members went skating at the District II skating party and the three winners of candy from our lodge were Vicky Tepera, Chip Nettles, and David Pechal. She thanked the youngsters and their parents for the help and support on the fund-raising night. • PVemium refund checks were handed out by the secretary and the door prize winners were J. D. Chlapek and Jerry Trampota.

Last weekend John and I drove to the Pasadena Lodge 172 dance.

It was so nice to surprise everyone and so good to be with our friends again. We all had a wonderful time, dancing to the music of the Knights of Dixie.

Then we stayed with our very good friends, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Holton in Pearland.

The next morning we drove on to the KC Hall in La Marque to the District V meeting. Again we met old friends. The food was delicious and the meeting went along very smoothly. We had to leave before the dance to drive back to Karnes County.

We hope to try to attend the District VII meeting if it works out with our plans.

District VII Sales Representative and District Director Bob Bayer are to meet us for a meeting in Karnes City. Hope we meet lots of people at the meeting.

The Seaton Choral Club met again, with the following members present: Alfred and Martha Klusacek, Alfred L. and Ginger Klusacek, Mathu and Elsie Cable., Annie Jakubec, (our talented leader), Della Psencik, Mollie Havrland, Georgia Sodek, Laverne Vanicek, Bill and Lillian Kosarek, Frank and Eleonora Spanhel, Ralph Milek (our accordionist; welcome back, Ralph, we've been missing you), Frank and Lillian Mikulec, Otto and Matilda Hanus, Leon and Vallie Zavodny, and Robert and Mary Vasicek. We have missed all of you who didn't attend; please come next time. We need you.

It is a great feeling to sing those old beloved songs that our mothers and grandmothers used to teach us and we really had a ball singing those old happy songs. it was an especially happy time with Ralph Milek accompanying us on his accordion. Those of you who couldn't be with us missed a great evening.

After our practice session we had a short business meeting. Minutes from the last meeting were read and accepted as written. Since our president, Emily Stuteville, was absent, the meeting was presided over by our vice president, Sister Georgia Sodek, and she did a great job. We will have an important decision to make at our next regular meeting which will be Tuesday, March 28th, and we would like to have 100 percent attendance on that night, so please be present; we need your help.

We sang "Happy Birthday" to Sister Matilda Hanus, the only one present with a birthday in March.

Dear Members and Friends: The regular monthly meeting of Lodge 35 was called to order March 12th by President Henry Breitkreutz, Sr. The pledge of allegiance was led by Flag Bearer Eddie Ray Banik.

President Breitkreutz welcomed our visitors Cheryl Daniel, Agnes Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Burney, Mary Mann, Megan Mann and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Schuetz from Lodge 6. We were glad to have them and hope they come back again. .

Secretary` Albert Banik was called on to read the minutes of the February meeting and these were approved. He then read thank-you notes from Linda Steade, Helen Dulock, Marvin Camp and Billy Kubitza; Mr. and Mrs. Price from the Mart Rest Home thanked all those persons who sponsored Mrs. Rosie Vicha in their Rock and Roll program. He als read a letter from the Supreme Lodge office.

Treasurer Henry Breitkreutz, Jr. was called on to give his report.

In the youth club report Sister Rosemarie Banik reported on how much money was made on the cake walk and that Easter had slipped up on her, so after the meeting there would be an Easter egg hunt for the children. She also had President Breitkreutz to draw for the quilt which was being given away, and the winner was Louis Ludwig from Waco.

Charlotte Banik made the AllDistrict Basketball Team. Congratulations, Charlotte!

Sister Rosemarie also said the youth club would hold their election of officers in April, instead of May. Sister Rosemarie then asked all the members who had birthdays in March to come forward. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Sisters Dawn Pavelka, Mildred Steinke, Willie Mae Pospisil and Ruby Pavelka.

The committee reports were given. Barbara Pavelka reported for the kitchen comm.; Eugene Pavelka for the entertainment comm.; and Gene Edward Pavelka, for the refreshment comm. They thanked everyone who helped them.

New member accepted was Mark Allen Daniel.

Those receiving prizes included: Darrin Banik, highest; Donald Steinke, biggest; Timmy and Tommy Pavelka, tied for the smallest, and Messy Steinke, the most trouble. Judges were Ernest Banik, Eugene Pavelka and Willie Mae Schuetz, youth leader from Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood.

There also was an egg walk, which was enjoyed by everyone, and of course, we all enjoyed a delicious fried chicken dinner.

I hope all of you have a happy Easter and we will see you at our next lodge meeting, April 9th.

Burl Hobson's wife (our member) was involved in a car accident a few days ago. The car she was driving was totaled, but she came out with only minor bruises.

LODGE NO. '74, LOVELADY Dear Members and Friends: We had Ted Hardin and his fine band to entertain our dancing fans March 11th; everybody had a good time. It is always nice to see our members and their guests coming to our dances well-groomed and dressed up. We had a big crowd and many new faces showed up; people who have not been at our lodge before. They all had great admiration and remarked what a nice place we have. Mr. Mitchell Ray Woods and his lovely wife, Peggy Lavonne Woods, were both eager to join our SPJST Society after their first visit to our lodge, and many others are joining. We are all proud to have them with us.

We lost one of our fine members, Sister Donna Lee Odurn. She was admitted for insurance Dec. 22nd, 1976, in our SPJST Society, at the age of 41 and at the age of 42 she passed away. It was a shock to all of us to see her leave us at such a young age. This proves to us that we never know when our time is set for departure from this life.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Eugene Odum, children and other relatives.

The trustees of our lodge met and the committees have given their reports. The Audit Committee stated that the income and expenses of the lodge are in good order; also the financial secretary

THE FRIENDSHIP CLUB We are finally getting some sunshine that I am sure all of us are happy to see. Let's hope it stays with us for a while.

Sister Frances Tirk was in the hospital but has -since been released.

We were saddened to hear of the passing away of Brother Bob Easley of Lodge 92. We express our sympathy to Sunshine Easley and the family. May he rest in peace.

We had 20 members present at our March meeting and three guests, Mary Pavey, Benny Pavey and Homes Bostick.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to the following members: Maria Prill, Josephine Prochaska, Carrie Milan, Homer Johnston and Joe Polasek. We hope they have many, many more.

LODGE NO. 92, FORT WORTH Dear Members and Friends: Take a Sunday afternoon, pleasant group of people, an orderly meeting followed by the addition of good food and drink and you have the ingredients for an activity that leaves pleasant memories for several days. Such was the meeting on March 12, and such is fraternalism. No one compels us to attend, rather it is the subtle magnetism of friendship that draws us together month after month.

Our business meeting was brief and all reports were approved. One of our principal discussions concerned details for the District III meeting to be held at our facilities at 10 a.m. the first Sunday of April.

We hope there will be a nice attendance from the district, and especially a good showing of our own members of Lodge No. 92. Dinner will be served for your convenience.

Hopefully it will be as nice as the one served at our March meeting and our thanks for that one go to Victor and John Murphy.

The Sunshine chairperson, Martha Durham, reported sending birthday greetings to members over age 65 in February. Get-well cards were sent to Laverne Lackey, who was in Harris Hospital with a broken hip, and to Tommy Ester Walker at the same hospital. Ricky Hubenak, grandson of Mary and Richard, was in a Houston infirmary ill with influenza. This past month we lost two of our older members, Vernon Dwire and Bob Easley.

Present at Sunday's meeting, after several absences, were Alex Bunker, Joe and Nancy Paprskar, Steve and Lillie Matusevitch and Joseph 13eca.n. A welcome visitor to the meeting was Dan Zurovitch.

Ann and Bernie Polk are preparing for son "Butch's" wedding, but Ann will be somewhat handicapped because she fell and broke her wrist.

Saturday, April 1st Adamcik's Polka Tones of Dallas will furnish the music for dancing at our lodge.

A motion was made and voted on by all members to raise the yearly dues from $1.20 to $1.50.

Regrettably this action was taken because every item we buy has increased in cost, and this year we plan to do some fun things, and fun things cost money.

Frances Bailey, of Reading, Pa., daughter of Sister Agnes Wruble, and sister of Agnes Merlick and Elizabeth Gregory, was our guest.

Mary Pavey, a frequent visitor and long-time friend of,many of our members, was also present. We enjoyed the presence of these two lovely ladies and invite them to our future meetings. We welcome two new members — Mary Palachek, and her sister-in-law, Lydia Palachek. Mary is a sister to our member, Florence Greer. We were happy to see Sister Bennie Bartek, who as been absent from our meetings because of a heart attack.

Sister Ima Laymance, who has undergone a serious operation, recently, was able to visit with us for a few minutes. In the fall of 1977 she was in a serious car accident which hospitalized her for a long time. As the saying goes, Sister Laymance "has had it."

Sister Agnes Wruble is presently at the MediCenter in Fort Worth seriously ill. We extend our sympathy to Sunshine Easley, who recently lost her husband, Bob, the, victim of a heart attack. The Easleys are long-time friends of many of our sisters.

Before a delicious lunch was served by hostesses, "Happy Birthday" was sung to members having birthdays in January, February and March. On the day of our meeting, Sister Annie Polk left early because she had some running around to do, and while running around, she had a nasty fall, breaking and shattering bones in her left wrist and ending up in St. Joseph's emergency room. The next morning, Anne could not manage to

Tears and laughter are related, and we believe that President Polk is having her share of tears and laughter. The financial report was read by Sister Mary Tilich, treasurer. Sister Tilich also reported on the profit from the cookbooks, which was satisfactory.

Sister Kadlecek welcomed the new members, who are: Sister Bessie Vasula and Sister Mary Johnson. It is a pleasure to have these two sisters join our club.

Last month I made an error in spelling one of the new member's name. Sister Lillie Spier, forgive me.

Sister Mary Russell is improving in the John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. We miss you and wish you a speedy recovery.

Sorry to learn that Sister Sadie Frazier is very ill in the Yale Hospital and Clinic. This is Sister Sadie Barlow's mother and they were both faithful members and we have been missing them.

Sister Birdie Hilsher reported that she was completely out of Birthday Club Cook Books and she felt that we could sell more if we would re-order them. The motion was made to order 200 more cookbooks. Therefore, if anyone would like to buy one of these

From The District Youth Counselors DISTRICT II YOUTH COUNSELOR Dear Members: The skating party held Feb. 19th was a huge success. We had 189 members on skates and this included about 175 youths from our District II. There were about 40 adults who did not skate for a total of about 225 members present.

We would like to thank all of the youth leaders, assistants and parents for bringing out the youth club members and we hope all of you enjoyed the afternoon of skating and fellowship.

We had door prize drawings and we had 14 winners. Enclosed is a picture of 13 of the winners, but I am not able to name them in the order in which they are pictured. I hope you winners will forgive me for this.

Our next District II function will be our spring district meeting which will be held April 9th at Lodge No. 47, Seaton, and will begin at 1:30 p.m. At about 1:45 p.m. we will have a short youth program with each youth club having the opportunity to present a 10-minute portion of this youth program, so we hope to see several short skits presented April 9th. Each youth club will also be allowed to bring two cakes, pies or other pastry which will be auctioned off after the adjournment of the business meeting. The results will go to the club who brought the pastries.

The youth club may also bring additional pastry items which each club may sell during break time.

The YAD will be held at Lodge 177 in Academy, July 9th. We are happy to have Lodge 177 as our host lodge. I also had a phone call from Lodge 74 Lovelady saying they would be happy 'to host our 1978 YAD but, I had already spoken to some of the officers at Academy about having it there and we now have a confirmation from the members of Lodge 177, so it will be at Academy.

Thank you, Lodge 74, Lovelady, for offering us your fine facilities.

The District II youth leaders' and assistants' training class will be held May 8th at Lodge 47, Seaton, and will begin at 9:30 a.m. so make plans to be there.

It is hard to believe that it is the middle of March and we still have such cold weather. The planting of field crops and gardens will be late. The fruit trees are not blooming and it is now their time to bloom. Everyone seems to be ready for spring and some warm weather after a very long winter for this port of the country, but the robins have arrived, so get ready for spring; it will be here next week.

Let us not forget our spring District II meeting April 9th; see you then!

DISTRICT III YOUTH COUNSELOR Dear Readers: Now that the snow has melted and the sun has come out, we can again proceed with our youth program. Everyone in the SPJST should start making plans so that all of our youth can take full advantage of the youth programs.

The following are some of the key dates for this summer.

March 25th -- 10 a.m. at Lodge No. 6, District III youth leaders' and assistant leaders' activity planning day.

April 2nd - District III spring meeting at Lodge 92, Fort Worth April 22nd and 23rd - Little Longhorn, - Youth Leaders' Retreat at Camp Val Verde June 25th - District III YAD. Site to be selected at spring meeting July (date not available) - District III Camp at Camp Val Verde.

Aug. 20th - State YAD at Temple High School.

Sept. 30th - State Royalty at Lodge 47, Seaton.

Wednesday, March 22, 1978 DISTRICT IV YOUTH COUNSELOR Dear Members: Our District IV Youth Leaders' Training Class was held March 7th, at Sister Mary Haisler's home in Seymour. Many good ideas were exchanged and contest rules for events of District IV were studied.

Contests at District IV meeting April 23rd at Rowena: 1) Each youth club to have a skit or number on program not to exceed 15 minutes.

2) Each youth club that has onehalf of their active members present.

3) Each youth club can have a booth of items for sale such as crafts, foods, canned goods, or anything that will sell. Each keeps the proceeds.

Special contests at YAD June 11th at McKenzie Park, Lubbock: 1) Youth Club that has the most entries 2) Five drawings of $2 each.

3) Sweepstakes winner (youth having most 1st places — Junior! senior) District IV youth will camp with District I at Val Verde.

Sister Massey carefully went over the youth rule book stopping and explaining all the new changes and stressed new ways of getting more members into the youth club. Everyone enjoyed the meeting and learned a lot.

An egg decorating contest was held with each member having brought a real egg decorated from home. In the senior division winning 1st and 2nd places were Annie Zabransky and Laurie Chudej. In the junior division were Chris Chudej and Gary Chudej. They received prizes.

Tommy's contest was won by Chris Chudej. Denise Vasek will have the contest in April.

Our next youth club meeting will be held April 1st, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Grant Building.

Fraternally, William Janik (3-16-78) Reporter - SPJST — LODGE NO. 117, ROBSTOWN Dear Readers, On March 4th the Robstown Youth Club held a game night. The youth brought their own games and records. Games were played while others danced to various folk songs. The members all had a good time.

At about 9 p.m. refreshments were served to all. After everyone ate they continued to dance and play games and at about 10 p.m. everyone went home.

Feb. 26th a talent show was held at the Jackson Woods Presbyterian Fellowship Hall. There were about 18 different perform-

ances by the youth members. Be fore the show a dinner was served in which everyone brought a covered dish. After we ate, the show began and lasted until about 9 p.m. All enjoyed the show and they went home.

The youth club is planning many activities for the near future.

He was a secretary of former Lodge No. 27, Moulton, for several years.

Brother Hlavaty married the former Anna Lomica. They celebrated their golden wedding anliversary on Jan. 23, 1977 in Pasadena.
