FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The dedication of the new home of Lodge No. 178, Longview was held Saturday, March 4th, as had been planned, and they had a nice day for it. Sister Mary Vaughan of Lodge 178 has a nice letter in this issue pertaining to the ribboncutting ceremony at 2 p.m., and Brother and Sister James Harris were gracious and fraternal to send us pictures they had taken at the time, since we could not be present that early; we appreciate their thoughtfulness. We left West about 1 p.m., after completing the Vestnik and set our "'direction finder" approximately east toward the Piney Woods area of Texas. This state of ours is truly remarkable in one aspect of nature in that in one day's travel you can see almost a complete change in climate, vegetation, etc. You can leave the West area where everything is still in wintery sleep, with the trees not even beginning to show signs of budding, and as the Tyler and Kilgore areas draw near the sighting of the evergreen pines begins to remind a person how pleasant the color of green really is in Mother Nature! slowly the hard-woods, such as oak, etc., begin giving way to the pine country. This is what we found to be the surrounding area and backdrop to the home of Lodge No. 178, Longview. Upon arrival we were greeted by the gracious hosts, registered and the odor
be an asset to Lodge No. 178. Returning to the hall we took a tour of it and it certainly is a nice and impressive structure with a huge ballroom, large dining area, large kitchen, beverage area and a membership club room; all in all, a place to be the pride and joy of all of its members and the entire area. It is this writer's opinion and also desire that the citizensin the Longview-Kilgore area will realize how nice and fraternal a place for the entire family they have at their disposal for their enjoyment and entertainment. Just as all of Fund-Raising Chairperson Sister our lodges, this is a place which Val Steele, with the help of her fosters a family affair type of sodaughter, Jutta Mozingo (not pic- cial get-togetherness not so often tured), made and donated the ar- found in these days.
