FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, February 12 was the date of the chartering of Lodge Spirit of Round Rock No. 187 in the home of Lodge Jan Zizka No. 18, Elgin. Saturday night it began to rain and rained continuously into Sunday in a steady manner.

Leaving West at 11:15 we drove in rain all the way to near Taylor where, almost abruptly, the rain subsided and the sun started to become visible so that, at Elgin, 13 miles down the road, it was clear and became a beautiful shiny day.

The chartering ceremonies had just begun and, we have pictures of the nice group of charter members present, plus other photos of the evening and the presentations made. In this instance we would like to inform our members that we received the SL quarterly meeting minutes of January 1978 from Brother Leonard Mikeska, Friday, February 10th and are delaying them until the next issue and are doing the same with the chartering writeup, history, etc., we received from Brother Nick Morris this week, plus the pictures we have ready, because of limited space; we feel you will understand.

The chartering went off very nicely and was carried out with the minimum of time lapse, which made the program pass without becoming tiresome and everyone seemed to be pleased with the results. Before the Cloverleaf band struck up their toe-tapping rhy-

During the time when the program ended at 4 p.m. and before the program the youth of our new lodge used the opportunity to raise a little financial help for their club by accepting donations for a lucky number for a U.S. Savings Bond. It is nice and appreciated that our youth are active from the time our lodges are chartered and also help our country by purchasing U.S. Bonds.

Certainly all of us wish the best for the future of Lodge No. 187!

They definitely showed great promise in the short time it took the lodge to become organized and set a fast pace forward. Our congratulations are with them and look forward to seeing them become a prominent lodge in our Order.

Lodge No. 18, Elgin, is to be appreciated and thanked for their generous hospitality. "Curly" Gustafson and his group are true fraternalists! * * A LAST-MINUTE NOTICE SFM Silas Smith and Sister Jacquelyn Wakefield both have notified us that the dedication of Lodge No. 188, Centerville, has had to be postponed from the date of March 12th, until a later date.

(We must remember that the weather we have been having does slow down construction. Please await further details.) * * To this day, fraternals like our SPJST enjoy the recognition of millions of sound-thinking people as a result of the fraternal functions and ideals, including our civic officials, who recognize the unique concept and services rendered by the. members of the fraternal system to the many communities and our nation.

We doubt if anyone can completely or adequately describe the enormous achievements of our fraternal society, and especially to evaluate in this dollar-minded and scientific age, the spiritual and material effects brought through its good work during its history.

The record of fraternalism to date has given what might be considered evidence of its indestructible nature; it has passed through several periods of stress which, we must admit, it has triumphed over.

We must bear in mind always, that there are some old things which cannot pass away. Honesty, character, industry, economy, thrift, and love. We have inherited these virtues from the past and, by their strength and their foundation, we should continue the battle for a greater fraternal system in the new world which we are about to enter, a world which may present us with greater opportunities than those witnessed in recent decades. * * You can tell a child is growing up when he stops asking where he came from, and starts refusing to tell you where he is going.

LODGE NO 15, BUCKHOLTS Dear Members and Friends: The meeting of our local Lodge No. 15 was called to order on Feb. 8th by President Joe Zajicek. The membership and one visitor, Dan Balusek, recited the pledge of allegiance. This was followed by the reading of the minutes, which were approved as read. Other correspondence was also read. The treasurer gave her report which was accepted as read.

We have two members on the sick list: Sister Mary Krause, who is in the hospital, and Brother Louis Svetlik who is convalesing at home. We wish both a speedy recovery.

We have five members who will be receiving 50-year pins this year: Sisters Annie Fuchs, Matilda Havlik, and Minnie Vybira,l, and Brothers Bennie Janes and Louis Svetlik.

The pledge was led by Flag Bearers Josef Morris and Vincent Shiller. We remained standing in silent tribute to our departed member, Brother Nick De Maria of Waco, who passed away Jan. 3rd.

Brother Vitek spoke briefly and commented on the attendance at the meeting and the advancements

The awarding of the 50-year SPJST membership pins to the three recipients present was next.

Pins were presented to Sister Rosa Schneider of Seaton and Brothers Clarence Marchak of Bartlett and Jerry R. Heil of Dallas by Brother Alfred Klusacek. Brother Tom Hurta of Chicago, Illinois, and Brother ) Bilk Sohwenke, a resident of Southland Villa Rest Home in Temple, were unable to be present, which we regretted. A white table cloth covered the tables having the five star-shaped cakes baked by Sister Adeline Kohutek and decorated in red, white, and blue colors with the SPJST letters, as on the emblem. Boutonnieres and a corsage were presented to the recipients, and each one of the three present received a cake; the other two cakes were donated to the rest home where Brother Schwenke resides. It was an impressive presentation but, unknown to us reporters until we came to the meeting, so we were surprised more than the recipients; they had received invitations. Congratulations to each of the recipients for this accomplishment.

LODGE NO. 92, FORT WORTH Dear Members and Friends: One of the less expensive pleasures of wintertime is purchasing a moderately-priced bag of birdseed to lure our little feathered friends. During all the inclement weather, time passes more quickly waiting to see if the brilliant male redbird would be joined by his less colorful wife, or watching her scare off the sparrows after she arrived.

The big blue jay also put in his appearance as noisily as usual.

All the ice had melted and it was raining heavily at meeting time Sunday, Feb. 12th. • Our attendance was small but there was a nice group present. We missed our regulars, such as Bennie Bartek, Steve and Lillie Matusevitch, and Rudy and Justine Chaloupka, and, of course, we also missed all of you who do not come out as often, but March 12th is the next meeting date and it would be great to see everyone then.

The meeting proceeded with Secretary Christine Zich reading the minutes and the assembly approved the reports of Treasurer John Paprskar and Financial Secretary Joe Krivanek. President Carl Zich was in usual form even though he had been sick the previous week.

Anna Juran announced that Mary Juran was celebrating her birthday in Four Seasons Rest Home, she is 89 years of age. Happy Birthday! Viasta Dolkos called the past week from Meadowbrook home to tell that Sylvia (Mrs. Rudy Dolkos), was in Harris Hospital. Agnes Wruble has been in intensive care at St. Joseph Hospital and will be moved to the Medicenter as soon as her condition warrants the change. Because we have a number of members in care facilities and an even larger number advanced in years and confined to their homes, it was suggested and approved that we send birthday cards throughout the year to members over 65 years of age, a very small token to express our concern in a fraternal manner.

President Bayer reported on the Entertainment Committee and also read correspondence from Supreme Lodge President Morris concerning the History of the SPJST, an invitation from Lodge 187 to attend their chartering, was also acknowledged.

President Bayer appointed Joseph V. Bayer to compile the local lodge history for President Morris.

Joseph is working on a local history for our 65th anniversary. The year 1977 was our anniversary year and he is writing a detailed history for the local membership; he also asked for pictures.

District VII Director Bayer gave a detailed report on the meeting of the Supreme Lodge officers.

Polly Bayer is a Pace Setter from Lodge 107. He also reported on the elation of SL Vice President Hejny over the quantity of insurance sold in 1977 — $20 million is a lot of insurance!

Our next dance dates are Feb. 25th, and April 1st with the Adamcik Polka Tones from Dallas playing. Plan to attend one or both, you will enjoy it.

Dear Readers: Lodge No. 6 held its February meeting on Sunday February 12th, at 3:30 p.m. Youth members Damon Perez and Eddie Hykel led the membership in reciting the pledge of allegiance to the American flag. Damon then said the SPJST pledge.

There were 22 members present at the February meeting.

All reports were given and approved as read.

In her youth report, Sister Schuetz reported that the youth would go to the rest home on Feb. 14th to take Valentines and gifts for the residents, no program would be presented. They will go again on March 8th, and present a program and take goodies for the residents. After the meeting today, the youth will exchange Valentine cards. They will have a game night on Feb. 17th, along with hot dogs.

They will have a kite flying contest at the March meeting. The kites will be judged in the following categories: prettiest, oddest, homemade, tiniest that can fly, and the highest flying. Youth members hauling birthdays during March include Tammy Mynar, Linda

Adkins, Stephanie Mynar, Bennie Mynar and Jeff Hykel. Darrell Uptmor brought a Valentine cake.

LODGE NO. 173, GALVESTON

Dear Members and Friends: At our January meeting election of officers was held. All officers and committee members were reelected to their same offices, with the exception of Brother Willie Huepers, who was elected the new Building Fund chairman. Let's all offer our help in making these officers' jobs easier. It is much easier to do a good job when your fellow member is with you side by side.

As most of you know, our lodge will host the District V spring meeting in March. Date has been set for March 12th, at the KC Hail, 501 Delany Road, La Marque.

Lunch will start at 11 a.m. and will continue until the meeting starts. Our menu will consist of barbecued chicken, green beans, new potatoes and cabbage slaw.

Tickets will be $2.50 for adults and $1.25 for children under 12 years of age. For your sweet tooth, we will have homemade pastries to sell; beer, coffee and tea will be sold extra.

Clarence Baca and his band will play for our dance. Time for the dance will be announced at a later date. We are awaiting a program of the meeting from our District V president.

Setups will be sold during the dance along with sausage sandwiches.

More information, along with a map, will follow from our District V president.

Members, we will again ask for your help in making this a most welcome meeting for our district officers and neighboring lodges.

Ladies are needed to work in the kitchen, selling pastry, coffee and tea. Men are needed to work the beer booth and the setting up of the various items in the hail. We plan to set up the hall Saturday if the hall is not rented out. Ladies are asked to bake something of their choice. You may call me at my home, 935-6895, if you would

like to discuss the time for working or any other information concerning the district meeting.

A few of us have been sick with the flu and other illnesses. Brother Willie Huepers has been in and out of the hospital from an injury he sustained from the explosion at the Farmers Grain Elevator. He is home and doing much better.

Brother Joe Polivka has also been in and out of the hospital and seems to 'be doing better. We wish all of you a speedy recovery.

We were glad to have as guests Brother Louis Hanus and his beautiful wife at our last meeting.

Brother Hanus has really given us some good pointers for our lodge and we appreciate his thoughtfulness. We have a small lodge and we plan to make it grow. This can all be done with a little effort from all of us.

I want to thank all the members for the plaque presented to me at our last meeting It was a big surprise and I still cannot understand how Brother Johnny Valusek did this so quitely without me knowing it; we work so closely on all these functions. Seems as though he plans his surprises as well as he plays his drums. I want to thank you also for making my job this past year an easier one.

We have some dedicated workers and I could not have done this without you, so thanks again.

Let's not forget the District V meeting and hope sunshine will come our way on this day.

WEEKLY NEWS FROM LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON First of all, I wish to set the hosting committee in their proper places for the Saturday, Jan. 28th dance. In charge: Jane and Chuck Custard with James and Bernice Wahlberg and their son, Don, and his friend Kay Ogrodowicz, all helping.

The Nick Navarro Orchestra played for the Friday, Feb. 10th dance and this was a well-attended dance with the ladies dressed in their best; a very nice crowd.

The hosting committee was kept busy until everyone was seated.

In charge was Bennie Kocich, and in the box office was his wife, Stacy, with Evelyn Antrich, greeting the guests at the door, and Milert Antrich was mighty busy.

The Saturday dance with the Texas Dutchmen brought in a very slim crowd. The weather is bad and Saturday was terrible. The hosting committee had to be on the spot regardless of conditions to see the night through. In charge was Georgie 13areak, taking care of the box office while her husband, Gene, with Adolph Jurica and Ed Oarlock were on the floor,

and Evelyn Jurica attended to the guests at the door.

Our 13th Lodge 88 Anniversary Celebration was a day with heavy overcast skies and rain corning down in sheets and high wind from early morning until noon, when the rain stopped just for a brief time and started again until 4 p.m., when the sun finally broke through the clouds. With weather like this it was a wonder anyone came out at all, but just the same, quite a few came out to eat a very good dinner. At 1 p.m. more came out to enjoy the social game and for the dance at five, we had a nice attendance to enjoy the music of Joe Patek. The committee wishes to thank everyone for helping to clear the tables off the dance floor after the game; it is appreciated. Our rainy weather presumably is about the same elsewhere and is getting very tiresome. All in all, Sunday's celebration was fair; thanks to all who came out regardless of the bad weather. Birthday Club Sister Mary Russell is confined in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston for several weeks now; Mary, we all wish you a speedy recovery and come home soon.

For Birthday Club members Sister Anna Hoffmann the month of February held a few special events.

Her birthday falls on the 20th, and William, her husband, was born on the 19th, and they both pledged their wedding vows on February 20th, 1941, in the Holy Rosary Church here in Houston.

Their happy marriage of 37 years was blessed with orie son, Bill Allen, Sister Anna is a devoted Birthday Club member and supports all activities of Lodge 88. Happy anniversary and birthdays to both of you and many more.

Sister Louise (Knapick) McGregor, at one time a very active youth leader at Lodge 88, is very proud of her daughter-in-law, Debbie, who graduated Dec. 16th, 1977, with a BA degree in Medical Technology from the University of Texas School of Allied Health Science in Galveston. Debbie was voted the Outstanding Student of her class by the school faculty. She is the wife of Louise's son, Mike Knapick.

Debbie will work at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston while Mike finishes his studies at the University of Texas Medical School. The parents of Debbie, Bennie and Jacky Marek, are proud of their daughter and son-in-law. They all are members of Lodge 88. Congratulations and good wishes for a rewarding future.

A wedding anniversary of 44 years duration was celebrated by Henry and Adele Kite at the Saturday dance. They were married Feb. 13th, 1934, and have reared a family of three daughters and one son. Up to now the offspring have presented their parents with ten grandchildren --- seven boys and three girls, which keep the grandparents, Henry and Adele, busy and happy. Friends around their table No. 34 were George and Lena. Edwards, Gus and Ann Gerlich, Herbert and Gazela Huber, and Frank and Della Glumb. Annie Green requested a special number for the celebrants to dance to.

Wednesday, February 22, 1978 anniversary at the Nick Navarro dance, Feb. 10th. Stan and Barbara Kurtin were married Feb. 14th, 1953, and have a wonderful family of ten children, ages 24 down to 3.

Six boys and four girls, and now they have an addition of one sonin-law, Roy Kotzur, married to daughter Debbie, and also one daughter-in-law, Terry, married to son, Darby Kurtin. A wonderful couple, Homer and Rita Alexander, who are regular guests at the dances, are a part of this Kurtin family; Rita is the sister of Stan, Frank and Claud Kurtin and another brother who was not present.

I think Rita said she has two sisters, so that would make seven members of the original Kurtin family. It was a pleasure to meet these lovely people. A beautiful tiered wedding cake was presented to the celebrants and during the evening delicious snacks were on the four tables. Congratulations and many happy years to come.

The Entertainment Committee had a Valentine walk after the meeting; all of the members enjoyed it and, of course, some of them went home with a Valentine heart. A special heart was given away and the winner was Louise Beran.

Afterwand we had a sausage dinner, and the children always love to skate.

LODGE NO. 9, SNOOK Dear Members: The SPJST Lodge No. 9 of Snook held its regular monthly meeting Feb. 1st, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by President Richard Vajdak, followed by the pledge of allegiance. After the roll call of officers, the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

The members voted to accept Sister Terezie Smotek into our lodge. She is transferring from Lodge No. 162. We want to take this opportunity to welcome her.

In addition to accepting this transfer, the members have also accepted three other new members into our lodge. They are Rebecca and Randall See, who are the twin children of Mr. and Mrs. John See, Jr., of Snook. Also accepted was Cameron !John Schltens, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schluens of Snook.

Wednesday, Feb. 8th.

Secretary Sister Rosalee Kostom read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were accepted as read.

Sister Della Kadlecek welcomed two new members to the club and introduced them to the sisters.

They are Sister Lily Spies and Sister Mary Ehret. We are happy to have these lovely ladies with us.

The treasurer, Sister Mary Tilich, gave a very complete report of our finances. Sister Mary is great and we appreciate her hard work.

Sorry to hear that Sister Mary Russell is ill in the John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Sister Russell is a very willing Sister to help or serve wherever she is needed.

Hurry and get well, Sister Mary; we miss you.

Brother Ed Kadlecek reported to us that his wife, Sister Louise Kadlecek, was out of the city with her sister, who is very ill. We miss you, Sister Kadlecek and we hope that your sister will have improved health real soon.

Many thanks to Brother Louis Hanus, District V director, for donating the bread for the January luncheon. Brother Hanus donates that good Sunbeam bread and we like it.

Congratulations to Sister Anna Hoffmann and her dear husband, Brother W. F. Hoffmann who have been married 37 beautiful years.

Sister Anna Hoffmann donated the food for the second Wednesday luncheon in February. We are wishing this lovely couple many more happy anniversaries.

Sister Della Kadlecek appointed a committee to check all the members who have not been living up to the Birthday Club rules and regulations. This committee is composed of Sisters Frances Olexa, Rosalee Kostom, Pearl Hanka, and Mary Tilich.

One of Lodge No. 88's dear sisters has joined the Birthday Club and we are so happy to have Sister Mary Johnson as a member of the club. Sister Johnson has been so good to the club that some thought that Sister Mary was a member.

Just heard about Sister Frances Olexa making a big move and I mean move. It may be a secret, so I won't say anymore.

Many thanks to all the sisters and friends who donated cakes, pies, and pastry for the anniversary dinner in February; everything was so good.

January and the first part of February saw some very bad weather, but we will be so thankful for the sun and nice weather in the near future. After a few days of sunshine everything will look beautiful again.

We want to wish a speedy recovery to Brother George Halford, who had back surgery in an Illinois hospital, and also to Sister Ima Laymance of Lodge No. 92, who is in St. Jdseph Hospital.

Brother Don Steinman was our door prize recipient.

LODGE NO. 179, WARRENTON Dear Members and Friends: Lodge No. 179 held their regular meeting Friday night, Feb. 10th, in Warrenton Store Guest Room.

The meeting was called to order

by President Harold Bergmann.

Flag Bearer James Wessels led the members in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Roll call of officers revealed all were present, except our vice president, who was excused due to illness.

Jeanette Schoenst read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.

Lee Leonhardt gave the treasurer's report and Dorothy Oltmann read the financial standings; both readings were accepted as given.

Edith Pfeiffer gave the audit report in behalf of the audit com.mittee. They found the books to be in good shape.

Correspondence was read and discussed. Various reports were given and old and new business topics were also discussed.

The 50-year SPJST membership pin for Brother John Marusik was posponed to the March 10th meeting; he, too, was on the sick list and unable to be present; therefore, a cordial invitation is extended to Brother John Kubena, our District I director, to attend the meeting and present the pin to Brother Marusik.

The food committee, consisting of Mary Lou Cordes, Edith Pfeiffer, and .Garda Ziptak, announced that a hotdog supper furnished by our lodge will be served at our next meeting. If any member wishes to add something to the menu, they may do so by bringing a cake, pie, or cookies.

We are looking forward again to our regular large attendance at our next meeting on March 10th, starting at 7:30 p.m., because this session we didn't have the usual large group due to sickness and the school's homecoming, but we were happy to welcome Sister Evelyn Mikeska and Brother John Kubena as guests.

To those of you who are convalescing, we wish you a speedy recovery.

Fraternally, Edith Pfeiffer Reporter - SPJST — LODGE NO. 81, NEEDVILLE Dear Members: Our meeting Sunday, Feb. 12th was called to order at 2 p.m. by President Charlie Matcek.

We pledged our allegiance to the flag and then the members stood for a moment of silent tribute to our deceased lodge brother, Brother August Filla, who passed away this morning. Our, sympathy goes to his family.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Mary Werner and after a minor correction, they were accepted as read.

Financial Secretary Allene Zwahr and Treasurer Corliss Vallet gave their reports.

The special fund report was given by Brother Gilbert Walzel, who also announced the activities for the coming month at the lodge.

In spite of the inclement weather, our new members, Brother and Sister Jerry Kubala were on hand to enjoy fellowship with us. We welcome you.

Another new member received was Chad Wayne Rohan.

We were sorry to report the following members were on the sick list: Sister Emily Kolaja, Sister Helen Stone, Sister Georgia Cannon, Brother John Kalisek, and Brother and Sister Constant Janik.

We hope all of you are on the road to recovery by now.

Brother Edwin Susan reported on the auditing of the books, all were found in order.

District V spring meeting will be held March 12th in La Marque, with Lodge 173, Galveston, hosting, which falls on the day of our regular meeting. A motion was made and seconded to have our meeting on March 5th, so please mark your calendars.

LODGE NO. 142, HOUSTON Dear Members: We wish to advise our membership that we now have set up a drawing from which to draw an attendance prize. This attendance prize started out with $5, and goes to the person whose name is drawn.

Everyone who is a member of our Lodge 142 has their name in the pot. During the February meeting Brother Robert Lindemann's name was drawn, but since he was not present, his name was returned to the pot and next month the prize will be $10. This will be increased $5 per month if someone is not present to accept the prize. The prize will not grow to more than $50. Let's everyone come out to the March meeting. You may be a lucky winner! We hope this will entice our members to come out and join us. You will all enjoy the fellowship that goes along with fraternalism.

President Marie Tesar called the meeting to order. Secretary Josephine Prochaska was under the weather so she was unable to attend. I also missed the meeting this month; my daughter, Mary, was home with the chicken pox.

Birthdays for February were Angie Polasek and Rosemary Gribble.

We certainly have been getting our share of snow and lee and do

hope it will end before long. As I am writing this today it is snowing again. The children are enjoying it all by getting a lot of unexpected school holidays, but it will not be very much fun making these days up in the springtime when it is so warm.

Our next meeting will be held at St. Thomas Cafeteria March 1st, at 10:30 a.m., if there is no snow and ice.

We hope to have them back soon.

On Dec. 26, Danny Drozd, accordionist, and Joe Kaskoska, vocalist, entertained with a Christmas program. Danny often comes by to brighten our noon hours by playing his accordion. Come often, Danny; we love your music.

Mrs. Karine Gilstrap entertains every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon of each week with a program of piano music. We certainly enjoy these weekly programs, and thank her for giving of her time and talent.

Participating in the ceremonies from the Supreme Lodge will be SL President Nick Morris and District III Director Brother Sid Pokiadnik, together with local lodge officers and local dignitaries. BRAZOSFORT JUNIOR COLLEG OFFERS CZECH COURSE Starting Wednesday, Feb. 22p..1, at 7 p.m., at Brazosport Junior College at Lake Jackson, Conversational Czech II Language Course will be taught. The 24-hour course presents a conversation of basic language instruction both vocabulary and grammatical, at the intermediate level. Students will utilize a programmed textbook with accompanying tapes in development of better language skills.

We are pleased to also announce that students qualified to enroll in the Czech II class will be eligible to receive an $18 scholarship toward the tuition of the course.

This money has been provided by the SPJST of Texas through the Supreme Lodge for the promotion and continuing support for the studies of the Czech language and culture.

Feb. 23rd at 7 p.m. will offer Conversational Czech I, (basic language).

The instructor is Mrs. Ilka Smith, who was born and educated In Czechoslovakia.

Joe Martinek and Annie Trojacek were married Jan. 10th, 1928 at St. John's Catholic Church by Father Kovalsky. They resided in the Crisp Community for the past 50 years.

knit dress. Her corsage consisted of white roses surrounded by gold ribbons. She also wore the broach and the watch which he gave her for their wedding 50 years ago.

The grandchildren presented her with an engraved heart-shaped pendant which she also wore.

The bridegroom wore a dark blue suit with his original boutonniere pinned to his lapel. He also wore an engraved tie clip which was given to him by his grandchildren.

The honored couple was escorted to the church in a 1929 Model A Ford. Their grandchildren led the procession and stood along each side of the pews while their children and their spouses, the origin-

al wedding party and the honored couple marched down the aisle.

Rev. Lawrence Haberman was the celebrant of the anniversary m which took place at 2 p.m. at the St. John's Catholic Church. They renewed their wedding vows and then he presented her with a gold ring.

The reception followed at the KJT Auditorium. Miss Peggy Martinek, Miss Marlene Krajca and Miss Jeanne Martinek (grandchildren of the couple) presided at the registry table. It was adorned by a basket of gold roses and featured the couple's wedding portrait.

The anniversary 'cake was a three-tiered white confection decorated with rosettes and gold bells and ribbon. The number '50' surrounded by gold bells and white ribbon stood atop the cake. The groom's cake was in the shape of a red tractor with a miniature farmer sitting on the seat. The cake was served by Mrs. Linda Trojacek, Mrs. Rita Holland and Mrs. Doreen Home, (grandchildren of the couple).

Seated at the head table were the honored couple, the wedding attendants of 50 years ago and their seven children and their spouses.

The bride's attendants were: Mrs. Alphonse Novosad (Agnes Trojacek) sister of the bride; Mrs. George Novy (Emily Sartinek), sister of the groom; and Mrs. Joe Houser (Annie Dlabaj) of Dallas.

Groomsmen were Frank Martinek, brother of the groom; Jerry Trojacek, brother of the bride, who was unable to attend, and Joe Knize (now deceased).

From The Lodge Youth Leaders LODGE NO. 117, ROBSTOWN Dear Readers, The Robstown Youth Club members enjoyed a special treat Saturday, Feb. 11th when they personally met and obtained autographs from Miss Elina Viola, one of the stars of the Holiday On Ice Show which performed for sell-out crowds at Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi last week. Forty-one members and parents attended the morning performances and were delightfully surprised when the lovely 21-year-old skating star boarded the club's bus and rode back to the Jackson Woods Youth Center with them, chatting and signing autographs along the way.

Elina and our daughter, Connie, met last summer in Los Angeles, where they were both taking lessons at the Duprie School of Dance. Elina, who hails from Vancouver, Canada, is in her second year with the HOI Company and was between tours at that time.

Connie was attending UCLA and taking lessons in ballet, jazz, and modern dance, They have kept in touch, and Connie came from SMU for the Saturday show.

The skating star and her male partner were outstanding on the program and won much acclaim from the audience.

Our youth club keeps busy with monthly meetings and other scheduled activities. Some events planned for the spring months ahead include a Talent Show on Feb. 26th, attending the Easter Sunrise Services on the Bay front, followed by an Easter breakfast on March 26th, a spring outing and boat rides at Lake Mathis on April 1st, a family outing and picnic for members and their families on May 13th, and ending the school year will be a trip to Astroworld over Memorial Weekend.

March 4th, at 11:30 a.m., we will have a cleanup day at the lodge.

We will pick up trash on the parking lot and along the road in front of the lodge building; come prepared to work, afterward we will have refreshments.

Letters From The Youth LODGE NO. 117, ROBSTOWN Dear Readers, The Robstown Youth Club held a game night Feb. 4th, which started at 7 p.m. and lasted until 10:30 p.m. There were about 35 people present. Everyone brought their games and some refreshments.

We started off by dancing to some folk songs and polkas. Everyone had fun doing this. After some other records and tapes were played, some of the youth members danced while others played games or pool. Then everyone played games for about two hours, refreshments were served, which included many kinds of chips, dips, cookies, candy and punch.

Everyone was refreshed and went back to playing games and dancing; some people left earlier than others, but most of them stayed until 10:30 p.m. We had fun and we want to do it again, soon.

When this letter is printed our youth club meeting for Feb. 18th at the Ta.ckson Woods Scout Hut from 2 to 4 p.m., will be in the past.

Mrs. Linda Barrett was invited to be our guest speaker and was also to demonstrate some unusual pa-

per crafts.

The club has started a Campbell's soup label drive. Members should save their labels and give them to Mrs. Jurica by March 7th.

I would like to urge everyone to attend all of our youth club meetings.

New business concerned raising money for our youth club and after discussion was held we decided to collect newspapers. Our youth leader talked to us about our dance party. It was going to be on Feb. 17th, from 8 to 12 p.m. All members of Lodge 29 are expected to

Brother Frank was born Dec. 28, 1898 at Fayetteville. The family later moved to Weinert, where his father continued to farm. In 1917 Brother Frank opened a confectionary store later moving to Holiday, where he operated a theatre.

Later at Megargel, he owned and operated a barbershop and beauty shop, as well as a dry cleaning business. In 1931 the family moved to Silverton, where he continued in the dry cleaning business and operated his barber shop. In 1946 they moved to Cortez, Colorado, and in 1947 opened a dry cleaning plant. He and his wife and family operated the business until 1968 when he retired.

He was married to the former Hattie PayBeek on Feb. 14, 1922, in Bomarton. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1972. He was a member of the SPJST since age 21, and for over 50 years was an IOOF Lodge member and was also a member of the Cortez Elk Lodge 1789.

Rosary was recited Tuesday evening at the Ertel Memorial Chapel.

ITEMS OF INTEREST PURCHASING APPLIANCE SERVICE CONTRACT Before purchasing an appliance service contract, consider whether the appliance will be subjected to "unusual wear" and how the appliance performed during the warranty period, says Dr. Carolyn McKinney, a family resource sagement specialist with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, The Texas A&M University System.

If the appliance will be subject to "unusual wear," the consumer may want to purchase the extended service contract, the specialist suggests.

For example, while refrigerators and feezers work similarly regardless of who uses them, a large family can quickly wear out washing machines, dishwashers and air conditioners.

Also, the consumer should consider how the appliance performed during the warranty period, Dr. McKinney points out.

For many appliances, the warranty period signals the kind of appliance performance to expect.

So, if a lot of service is required during the warranty period, purchasing an extended service warranty may make economic sense, she adds.

Since these contracts cost anywhere from $20 to $140, the consumer may want to individually evaluate the type of appliance and the use to which it will be put, the specialist contends.
