FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, January 8th was a nice, cold busy day for your editor, with a request from the officers of Lodges No. 54, West, and No. 126, Ross, to be present at the official transaction of the two lodges' merging and transferring of the records from Lodge No. 126 officers to the proper officers of Lodge No. 54. The picture and details appear in the Letter Section, this issue. * * Next was a hurried trip to local Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood, to be present at the installation of their officers for 1978. This ceremony was done by Brother Johnnie Krizan with a nice speech to the newly-elected officers and members present. While there we took pictures of the various happenings and the plaques and pictures on the walls of the lodge hall and it is surprising how many awards this so-called "little" lodge has won! Of course, it should be remembered that it is one of the original lodges of our SPJST, formed in 1897! It has been active continually to this day. These pictures appear in the Letter Section, including the one of the installation. We enjoyed the visit very much, zut we had to hurry on. It is commendable that this lodge about four miles from West in the middle of farm lands continually has so much activity going on all of the time. Another lodge out in the farming
THOUGHTS WE CAN ALL USE: A SONG Let me be a little kinder, Let me be a little blinder, To the faults of those about me, Let me praise a little more; Let me be when I am weary Just a little bit more cheery — Let me serve a little better Those that I am striving for. Let me be a little braver When temptation bids me waver, Let me strive a little harder To be all that I should be; Let me be a little meeker With the brother who is weaker Let me think more of my neighbor, And a little less of me. section near here, and also very active, is Lodge No. 35, Elk. Of course, there are many other very active lodges out in the farming sections where our SPJST had its beginning. Lodges Nos. 4, Hallettsville; 30, Taiton; 47, Seaton, etc., and a person could go on and on! We add, enthusiastically, keep up the good work to all of our lodges! * * In this issue is a notice from the P.I.O. of the Cultural Activities Center about the Czech Night to be held Tuesday, Jan. 24th at 7:30 p.m. on the stage of the Frank W. Mayborn Auditorium as a part of a two-week' grand opening celebration of the new cultural arts
center. The official name is the Azalee Marshall Cultural Activities Center and it is located at 3011 N. Third St. in the north part of Temple. The public is invited and the event is free. *

Brother Eugene Gerik, secretary and treasurer of the now merged Lodge No. 126, Ross, for the last 17 years stopped by our office and stated that he wishes to thank all the members of that lodge for having worked so hard and faithfully with him in cooperation while he was in office all those years. He is another good fraternalist and stated that he loves lodge work and will continue working in Lodge No. 54. * * In the letter section is an article calling attention to the 20th Anniversary Celebration of S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. I in Taylor, Sunday, April 16th. In this instance we wish to encourage all of our members, especially district and lodge officers, to carefully read the Bulletin Board published last week and again this week, and the Newsbriefs and Calendar for the various dates already taken up, especially the district meetings and lodge building dedications; it seems that we have two district meetings set for Sunday, April 23rd. It is hoped the planners of events can arrange activities with as little conflict in dates as possible.
