PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE AND REPORT Dear Members: This will be, for the most part, a sequel to my previous progress report which appeared in the Vestnik of November 9, 1977. It has been traditional that the president bring you this report at this time each year, in addition to other reports that he renders periodically to the membership in the Vestnik. Insurance and Membership Growth. My predictions in my most recent report have been borne out by recent figures in the number of applications received and insurance written, Through December 20th, e total of 3,700 applications were received for a total of $18,287,465 in insurance. This is a hefty increase over last year's production at this time when we had received 3,553 applications for almost $18,000,000 in insurance. By the time I bring you the report on our net gains for 1t9'71, both of these figures should be even larger. This breaks all previous records for our Society! All of the districts met and exceeded their quotas and we are grateful to everyone involved in any way in insurance sales, namely, the vice president's office, the State Field Manager, District Sales Representatives, local lodge sales representatives, and last but not least, the membership at large who contributed to these gains by their

recommendations of prospective members. It has truly been a team effort and we are enormously proud of all of you. (Net figures in insurance gain and members will be available the early part of March 1978.) So that our members might have a clearer understanding of the scope of duties and responsibilities of the various offices in the Supreme Lodge, the following is a general description of what they do. A. day of personally observing these processes is invited and en-
couraged by any member. It's a big business and the responsibilities keenly felt. This is 1978 — a far cry from what and how we were doing things 30-40 years ago. Insurance Department. These gains in insurance/membership do not stop with the mere acquisition of new business. Each application must be processed before the actual issuance of the policy; Medicals and Life Reports must be obtained, often with a tremendous amount of correspondence relating thereto 'With physicians, the proposed insured, the sales representative involved, et al; the beneficiary book posted; commissions must be posted and paid; doctors paid for medical services rendered; general servicing of policies, on an on-going basis, to include issuance of DI, Payor, PW Supplements; changes of names, changes of beneficiaries, issuing duplicate policies, etc., etc. There are many other matters taken care of relating to servicing of contracts, rates, and questions from members, some handled by phone, many by mail; scheduling and planning of Sales Representatives' seminars and classes held by the State Field Manager; and submitting monthly sales reports to the membership in the Vestnik. ,311 of this is handled in the In-, surance Department under the vice
