Morris presents a plaque and letter to Joyce Wachsmann which entitles her to a scholarship in the amount of $500, which is available to Joyce when she decides on the college, university, or trade school of her choice. Joyce is a member of Lodge 6, Cottonwood, and her scholarship award covers the period from 1 June 1974 to 1 June 1977. Joyce is the daughter of Andrew and Georgia Wachsmann.

The District m meeting MS held at Lodge No. 84, Dallas as host Sunday, October 16 as scheduled. It was convened at 11 a.m. with a small attendance present and the roll call of officers and lodges was held, the minutes of the previous District III meeting read, and other official district details were taken care of, etc., before a onehour break for the noon meal was taken. The noon meal was delicious — roast beef, potatoes, and all the tasty trimmings as only the always-able cooks at Lodge No. 84 can prepare them. The meal was appreciated by all present and many more came for the meal and remained for the afternoon session, which was resumed at about 1 p.m. when a short youth program with Youth Leader Bessie Petr acting as MO was presented. The program, as is always the case in all district meetings, was well accepted and enjoyed by all present.

The business meeting was then resumed and the normal order of business carried on.

The efficient District III secretary, Sister Barbara Jean Hykel, will have the details in her minutes so we will dispense with that here in these columns, however, may it be stated that the attendance was rather small for a District III meeting. This Was probably due to the football games and the World Series baseball game, but the fact about the small attendance was brought up by several present. This editor was reminded by several observers that most of the heads of those present before noon were covered with gray hair, evidently meaning that it was the "old timers" who still take the most interest in district affairs. It is in our interest for us all to take more interest in our youth, lodges, districts and, yes indeed, our Society! Keep that in mind! Remember that if we keep the attitude of: Let George do it!, too long, we may find out that "George" did it completely opposite

WednesdaY, October 28, 197'7 to our liking and thinking. If "George" does not know what we want, how can he do it the way we want and wish it; he will do it tie way he sees fit and maybe even to his benefit! Let us all pitch in and help "George."

District III President Henry Skrabanek at the helm of a district meeting for the first time, did a fine job of conducting the meeting and all of the District III officers earreid out their duties and made their reports to those in attendance. The day was nice and the traffic heavy, what with the State Fair still in progress and the other activities going on. * * Brother Gordon Timbal of Lodge No. 185, New Braunfels, called long distance to advise that preparations for their official chartering are going right along and on schedule for, the date of Sunday, November 27th at 2 p.m. in Saengerhalle east of New Braunfels, on Hwy. 46, at 2 p.m. He reminded that they would serve a noon meal and later have a dance. We are happy that we are going to have another sister lodge, after some poStonements! * * Slowly but surely, fall is letting us know it has arrived, by the cooler temperatures and the leaves on the trees turning from green to all the beautiful and colorful hues of autumn, and one can see squir rels scampering around gathering their winter's supply of food.

NEWSBRIEFS Chartering ceremonies have been set for Sunday, Nov. 27th, for Lodge No. 185 New Braunfels. The ceremonies will be held at 2 p.m. in the Saengerhalle, east of New Braunfels on Hwy 46, within the city limits of New Braunfels, preceded by a noon meal and followed by a dance. Officials from the Supreme lodge will be in charge of the chartering ceremonies.

DISTRICT I SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT FOR JULY, AUGUST, AND SEPTEMBER, 1977 The insurance sales for July, August, and September were 47 members in the amount of $151,000; 25 members in the amount of $135,000 and 28 members in the amount of $193,000, respectively, for a total of $1,874,015 for the first nine months of the year. I want to thank all the sales representatives for a job well done.

Top sales representative for July and August was Sister Jacquelyn Wakefield, Lodge 188, selling 2 members with *MOO insurance and 5 members with $104,000 insurance, respectively. Top sales representative for September was Brother R. C. Junek, Lodge 9, selling 1 member with $80,000 insurance. Congratulations!

We want to congratulate Sister Mary Ann Novosad, Lodge 189, for being the District I winner of the three-month sales contest and a trip to the Texas Fraternal Congress in Austin.

LODGE NO. 87, TEMPLE SPJST Lodge No. 87 held their

regular meeting Friday evening, Oct. 14th, at 7:30 p.m. with President Louis Marek presiding.

Brother Jerry Valchar led the lodge in rendering the pledge of allegiance. The lodge remained standing in silent tribute to deceased members 3. V. Kohut and Charles L. Miller.

Dear Members and Friends: Yesterday (Sunday) was a beautiful day for the District III meeting, which was hosted by Lodge No. 84, in Dallas. We all enjoyed the delicious dinner and the hospitality shown us, and of course, it is so enjoyable seeing our friends whom we have made by attending these meetings.

Dear Members and Friends: I had a good fall and have my left hand in a cast, but will try and get this written.

Our last meeting was attended by 23 members. President Sister Mary Tesar made welcome our guests: Phylis Kindlinger and Bernadette Tesar.

Plans were made for our Thanksgiving Family Night, which will be held Wednesday, Nov. 2nd for members and their (at home) family. The club will furnish turkey, dressing and gravy. The sisters will bring the trimmings and pastry.

Serving will start at 5:30 p.m. If you need any information regarding the menu, you may contact me at 921-2397.

We missed our secretary, Sister Jo Prochaska, but we were happy to hear she was recuperating real well after her surgery. We hope our president, Sister Mary Tesar, is doing better after her fall. We cannot all be crippled at the same time.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Brothers and Sisters: Louise Oujesky, Mary Saldana, Ella Mae Faraizl, Al Kercho and Frank Tesar.

May each of you have many more.

Wednesday, October 26, 1977 LODGE NO. 24, CYCLONE Dear Readers and Members: Our October meeting was called to order by President Edwin Marek. Members stood to recite the pledge of allegiance and gave a moment of silent tribute for the deceased members.

Visitors at the meeting was Marvin Ondrasek.

Starting off the business, the chili supper was postponed until a later date; I will let you know when the date will be. A motion was made to have a supper on the day of our lodge elections. The day set for the November meeting was the 8th, at 1 p.m. The meat will be furnished by the lodge for supper, but each member is asked to Ming a covered dish and a dessert. Jerry Cable, Jr., Harold Schneider, and Ben Tyroch will cook the meat.

The committee chairmen gave their reports and turned in the money and complaint& Mr. Geistman is having trouble finding bands to play at the lodge, and he is asking for help to see if we can find some bands so members start looking for some musicplaying people.

Members on the sick list are Mrs. E. J. Bedrich and Mrs. Ray Sodek.

We wish both of these ladies a speedy recovery.

Mrs. Marek called out the premium checks and the meeting was then adjourned.

LODGE NO. 173, GALVESTON Dear Members and Friends: We had, our monthly meeting Oct. 18th and many things were discussed. First of all our Christmas party has been set for Sunday, Dec. 4th, at 2 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 501 Delany Road, LaMarque. The menu consisting of turkey and dressing, along with refreshments will be served and

furnished by the lodge, beginning at 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. We booked Alvin Linhart and the Sugarlanders (a six-piece band). Beer, soft drinks and set-ups will be sold during this time. Ladies are asked to bring a covered dish. We encourage you to bring guests because they are always welcome.

Please bring enough food for your guests.

Our lodge will have a shop on the Strand on this date. This will take place on Galveston Strand, "The Old Wail Street of The Southwest," between 20th and 25th (Bath or Rosenberg) Streets. An authentic recreation of a downtown English Street scene of the 1840s-1870s during the holiday season, which will start from 6 to 11 p.m. Blue norther or rain date will be Sunday, Dec. 12th The charming Victorian Street atmosphere with quality wares of the 19th century, the bustling busy Strand lives again!

Sixty-five or more shoppes in buildings with shopkeepers selling period wares, by lamplight — and many more vendors on the streets.

There will also be free street entertainment, amusements, street characters, and other diversement of the era. SPJST's shoppe will be known as Codlings Sea Soup House.

We will serve sea soup (seafood gumbo) in an 8-oz, cup; the price will be $1.25 per cup. An 8-oz. cup measures the same as a medium size bowl, and where can you get a bowl of seafood gumbo for $1.25?

Customers purchasing a cup of seafood gumbo will also get to keep the cup; refills will cost $1.

Gumbo sells anywhere for $2.50 to

$3.50 a bowl so this is truly a great bargain. We will also sell gumbo by the quart to go; no matter which way you look at it, you can't go wrong. Our shoppe will portray an Old English waterfront scene: hanging nets, candle light, and to serve you, our ladies will be dressed in long dresses, aprons and the Old English type kitchen caps. The men will wear dark pants and white shirts with the old-time sea,meris stocking caps. This should be a sight to see. It will be turning back the century. For your entertainment as our booth we will have accordion music. Our booth space and location will be announced later.

The Czech Heritage Singing Group will also have a shoppe in the Dickens on the Strand. Their shoppe will sell noodle soup and sausage on a bun. Their location will be 20th and Strand in the Demacks Produce Bldg. We invite all our members, friends, and neighboring lodges to come out. I am sure this will be something you will not forget.

As most of you ,know, we have purchased a 5-acre tract of land here in LaMarque, on Delany Rd. This is just a few blocks down from the Knights of Columbus

Hall. Our purchase price was $20,000 making the notes at $107.411 per month which seems like a small note for a 5-acre tract of land. We have a 20-year loan with the Supreme Lodge and a $15,000 balance. It will take many projects to pay for this land. This is a dream come true to many people, especially the older ones — purchasing land for the future SPJST home. With the help of all our members this dream can and will come true. We don't want to take 20 years to pay for this land. We would like to see a new lodge home in the near future and with your help we can accomplish this dream.

We can easily pay our monthly payments, but any extra money can be applied in lump-sums on the principal balance, thus resulting in reducing the balance quickly. Please offer your help by donating to your lodge. If this will not help you, then think of it in the way of helping your children or their children. We need an SPJST home in this area. Some of us belong to the Polka Club; other than this, where can you go and take your friends to a nice club or dance and not be afraid of trouble? Our children need a place to go to keep them off the streets.

SPJST has so much to offer you and our youth; remember, they are our leaders of tomorrow.

As a small lodge we cannot offer it to you or our youth without a lodge home. Open up your hearts and make this dream a reality, you can make this possible. Is this making too much for our future leaders of tomorrow? Ask yourself this question. You too, along with them, can enjoy this lodge building when we build it. Let's not make it too many years, let's shorten them as much as possible.

At our meeting today we also discussed the cleaning of our land that we purchased. Brother Jerry Kaluza has offered his help with his tractor and machinery. Financial Secretary Sister Ruth Moore gave her good report and left because she had another commitment.

Secretary - Treasurer Milton Trammel gave his report.

Our guest, Sister Evelyn Mikeska, spoke to us on the District V fall meeting held Oct. 9th at Lodge No. 88, and reported that it was a good meeting.

We planned more on our annual meeting coming up Nov. 14th at the VFW Hall in Addicks, at 7 p.m.

We have five premium refund checks that can be picked up at our annual meeting. They are for: Margaret Clark, Elizabeth Hinkle, Frances Polasek, Helen Watson, Joe Watson. Members, we hope to see you at our annual meeting; it is important for you to be there, so come and vote for the officers for our lodge. We hope to see all of you then.

11 LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE

Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday, Oct. 9th at the Grant Bldg., with President Frank Zabransky presiding. Kim Drozd and Denise Vasek led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Resolutions of isympathy were read by Brother Hihner Galetka for our departed Sister Toni Cervenka and Brother Joe Novak.

Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes of the September meeting and they were approved. Correspondence followed.

Youth Leader Helen Zabransky gave her report. She announced that District VI Queen Annie Zabransky and Duchess Kim Drozd, from our lodge were first runnersup in the State Royalty Contest held in Elgin on Sept. 24th. The State YAD was held the next day, Sept. 25th in Temple, with Annie Zabransky, Kim Drozd and Janell Chudej taking part. Our youth club poster won second place in the poster contest and our youth club also received a beautiful plaque for being one of the top ten youth clubs in the state.

Sister Helen Zabransky further stated that she had received a letter from State Youth Director Dorothy Massey advising that after correcting an error in our Ye points, we are now the Youth Club of the Year in District VI, which makes us very proud because of the hard work and time spent by our youth club leaders, members, and parents.

President Zabransky reminded the members of the District VI fall meeting Sunday, Oct. 23rd, at Sweet Home, which was hosted by the Hallettsville and Sweet Home lodges.

Nov. 13th is the date for our next meeting and officers will be elected at this meeting.

Refund checks were handed out and the meeting was adjourned.

The youth club presented a Halloween Mask Contest with Hilmer Galetka, Joe Woytek, Jr., and August Holub as judges, with help from the audience. It was a lot of fun and enjoyed by all. LODGE NO. 81, NEEDVILLE

Dear Members and Friends: First of all I would like to thank all the members and friends who, in any way, helped with our annual, barbecue dinner. Big credit goes to those who worked in the kitchen and to those who served the meal, tea and coffee. A big THANK YOU goes to Mr. Frank Urbanek and his sons, Ronald and Frank, Jr., for barbecuing the meat, which was simply delicious; also, many thanks to those who worked in the pastry stand, the country store, the bar, including those who sold meal tickets and those who sold barbecue at the pit. But most of all, we would like to thank all the donors who so crraciously came across each time there was a need.

Our October meeting was held at night again. A delicious supper was enjoyed by everyone present before the meeting started.

Pledge of allegiance was led by President Charlie Matcek.

All members stood for a moment of silent tribute to our deceased member, Brother Joe J. Tejkl, who had been a member of SPJST for 60 years. Brother Tejkl was a resident of the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home at Needville for two years. He passed away in Wharton Hospital a few days after he was taken there. Brother Tejkl was a quiet and honorable person and we shall all miss him. Members of Lodge No. 81 wish to extend their deep sympathy to his devoted family.

The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read by Secretary Mary Werner.

Reports by Financial Secretary Allene Zwahr, Treasurer Corns Vallet, and Special Fund Treasurer Gilbert Walzel, who gave a very accurate report of all expenses and income for the last

Under correspondence, a thankyou letter was received and read from the J. J. Tejkl family.

New business: Auditing of the books was set for Oct. 22nd at 8:30 a.m.

Brothers Charlie Franek and Tom Kolaja were seriously ill and hospitalized for several days. A complete recovery is wished for both of them.

A beautiful quilt top was displayed for all to see, that Sister Libbie Kolaja donated toward the Lodge 81 Czechfest booth in April.

It was suggested to send Sister Kolaja a thank you letter as our appreciation.

Checks were distributed and the door prize was won by Sister Lillie Tejkl who gave it back to the lodge. We thank you, Sister Tejkl.

Please, remember that our annual meeting comes in November.

This is our first meeting in several months that will be held during the day. Since this is the time we elect the officers and all the committees for next year, make every effort to 'be present at this meeting; the date is Sunday, Nov. 13th, at 1 p.m. Also, bring your favorite dish, because we will have a lunch after the meeting adjourns.

Wednesda4C October 26, 1977 Brother Sonny Elmer came home from an elk hunt in the mountains of New Mexico. This was not his first trip, but this time he Caine home with an elk as large as a horse. How exciting.

Eight adventurous people just made up their minds to lease a 28-foot mobile home and travel in style to Sioux City, Iowa.., to attend the Octoberf est in progress there. They left Houston on a Friday (Sept. 30th), and returned home Tuesday, Oct 4th, after living high and joyously for six wonderful days. With three drivers sharing the duties, they arrived at their destination in 19 hours continuous driving. Drivers were: Royal Warnasch, Karl Lindemann and D. A. Bruce. The weather was ideal — 30 degrees with a frost one morning. Al Grebnick was the highlite of the festival with 15 other bands to keep the atmosphere alive; even going to the ladies' room, two boys, ages 11 and 13, would play their accordions outside the door, so the ladies wouldn't miss any music at all.

Newly acquainted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Huseth, entertained this group from Texas with a cocktail party at the beautiful home of the Huseths' friends, Mr. and Mrs. Keesner at Holston, Iowa. They enjoyed the polka dances from early in the morning until way into the night, mingled with modern music by Eddie Skeets' orchestra. To enjoy this adventure for six days were: Royal and Laura Warnasch, Karl and Lorena Lindemann, Herman and Margaret Liebscher, their daughter Carol Ann and friend D. A. Bruce. They have returned and are enthused with their successful one-week vacation, but were glad to be able to dance in our Chandelier Ballroom Saturday with all their close brothers and sisters of the lodge.

Sunday, Oct. 16th, Lodge 88 gave a party for the faithful lodge workers. It was a. nice and very well-planned party with cocktails from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., a delicious dinner catered by Mikeska Catering Service from Columbus, and to top it off _a dance throughout the evening with music by the Tannenberger Orchestra. year. Every week in and out there is some activity and it does take someone's attention, therefore, dear members, come out and extend a helping hand. You can see it is appreciated; don't sit on the side line, come out and be a doer.

At this party, Brother Frank and Sister Betty Bravenec celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary and Frank also had his birthday the same day — Oct. 16th, which made it a double celebration. A request for the "Anniversary Waltz" was made for Frank and Betty to enjoy. Brother Mike Treffel and wife, Kathy, celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary. This was a loveat-first-sight romance when they met in Austin and got married in a short time in Galveston. Oct. 16th, 1970. Kathy was sporting a huge orchid and was dressed in a beautiful flowered chiffon gown. You make a lovely couple.

We all were very happy to see Brother Joe Fusig able to attend this party for a while after spending several weeks in St. Joseph Hospital with blood poisoning, the result of an accident; he stuck a rusty wire in his hand and not paying any attention to it, his hand started swelling and he had to enter the hospital. Joe, we are glad you are doing fine and keep it up; we miss you at the Thursday night socials and especially your happy attitude.

Sister Mary Ellen Sanderson is in Parkway Hospital, Room 52. She was not feeling well Sunday when we made the trip to the Czech Day at the State Fair in Dallas, but Wednesday she came to our Choral Club rehearsal and Thursday she had to be rushed to the hospital.

We wish you a speedy recovery.

Sister Carolyn Dear, after a long siege of several weeks in St. Joseph Hospital finally came back to her regular place at the social night. She looks good but has lost some weight. We were glad to have you back!

Mrs. Ada Caves, one of the ardent supporters of our lodge and a regular visitor on Thursday nights, suddenly passed away Oct. 10th and was laid to rest Oct. 12th.

Services were held in the Heights Funeral Home. Her daughter, Esta, is married to Brother Robert Syptak, and always accompanied her mother to this recreation, which she loved so much. We wish to ex-

tend our sincere sympathy to the family. We will miss her very much.

Sister Mary Stayton is confined to St. Joseph Hospital for the second week, Room 219. We all hope Mary will come home soon because she is missed around the lodge and her husband, A. J., walks around like a lost sheep without her around.

It was good to see Sister Helen Valcik back in circulation. = She came to the workers' party on Sunday, Oct. 16th, with Sister Mary Johnson; both were dressed in formal gowns and looked great.

It was nice to have you back, Helen. My brother, Frank Dvorak, and his wife, Frances, also came out for a while to see friends; they have been out of touch the past few weeks. Frank has another appointment with his doctor this week to see if any relief can be found to help his knees. Oct. 8th, Frank and I had our birthdays, but two years apart; however, we were born on the same date. Their daughter, Elsie Kadera, and her whole family came from McKinney to cheer up grandpa on his birthday.

Lodge 177 Academy held their regular monthly meeting Oct. 12th.

President Jerry Tomastik called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. with all officers present. Everyone stood for the pledge of allegiance.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was read, showing a steady increase in lodge progress. The financial secretary read the names of two transferees and several new members. Welcome to the new members; we hope you will support your SPJST lodge and attend the meetings and lodge functions. All committee reports were favorable and each department is making a profit. We are still having good attendance for our Saturday night dances and Tuesday game nights.

The minutes of the trustees' meeting were read. It was recommended by the committee to have lights installed on the parking let.

Sister Massey reported on a tele phone conversation with the Texas

14 Power & Light Co. representative concerning the cost, installation and procedure for getting the lights. It was voted to have a TP&L representative look at our parking area and recommend the locations best suited for the lights and place an order for them to be installed as soon as possible.

Karen Levviandowski, our youth leader, gave a report on the youth dub. The attendance was very good and the members voted to have a party and hay ride Oct. 21st for their October social. Congratulations were extended to the two State YAD winners, Missey Ashby for her individual talent and Donnie Lueck for his foods entry.

Also congratulations to our youth leader, Pat Tomastik, for her hard work and devotion to the youth club. Lodge 177 youth club earned another plaque for being one of the top ten youth clubs in the state. Sister Tomastik is recuperating from recent surgery and her assistant looked after the youth club meeting. It was good to have her present for the adult meeting.

The lodge's anniversary in December was brought up for discussion. It was suggested to have the celebration on Dee. 10th. After several ideas were presented a cornmitte was appointed to make final arrangements and present them at the November meeting. Committee members are Louis Driska, Otis Beck, Curtis Hawk and Dorothy Driska.

The nominating committee was elected and appointed as follows: Dorothy Massey, Mary Dubec, Wilbert Ran= and Dottie Roach. According to the lodge by-laws we will have election of lodge officers, elective committee chairman, and board of trustees during the annual meeting in December. Installation of officers will be held during the January meeting.

The attendance at the meetings has slacked off. As a member of Lodge 177 your support is needed to operate the lodge and maintain the standards worthy to our Fraternal Society. Come to the meetings to hear the discussions and voice your views there. Your presence is welcome and you can feel that you are part of the organization when you are involved.

If you have not been attending the meetings, plan now to set aside the night of Nov. 9th and Dec. 14th

LODGE NO. 35, ELK

We had three new members who were accepted into membership: Lucy Oliva Wilcox, Darwin Hefeifinger, and Betty Middleton.

Under old business the date of the Christmas party was brought back to the floor. The date has been set for Dec. 23rd, but that date wasn't satisfactory with all of the members. It was decided that we would have the party on our regular lodge meeting day, which is Dec. 11th.

In answer to the building chairman's question about the lumber, it was voted to sell the lumber for whatever it is worth to whoever wants it.

Brother Henry Breitkreutz, Jr., of the Scholarship Committee, stated that the scholarship was granted to Mark Wood who had graduated from Axtell High School this past May. Under new business the time of the clean-up day was set for 2 p.m. on the 23rd of October. I'm sorry this is a week late, hope all of you remembered.

A suggestion was made that we donate to the Hallsburg Volunteer Fire Department. This was approved.

On the matter of our election of officers which will be held at our November meeting it was decided to use printed ballots.

On the sick list we were told that Brother Charlie Kubitza was still in the hospital. We wish him the very best and want him to know that we are all thinking about him.

Before handing out the premium refund checks Brother Rudolph Zalman stated that anyone paying their insurance by check, notice that in the memo section of your check most of the time he will make a notation as to whether it is a monthly, quarterly, annual, or whatever, premium. He said he did this especially for those who pay monthly premiums.

He asked that you specify in that memo space what months you are paying for so that he will always know. He said if you would do this it would help him greatly and he certainly would appreciate it. He also said that if at some time, he makes a mistake, feel free to let him know because he would r eally appreciate that WO. The door prizes were won by

Dear Members and Friends, The regular monthly meeting of Lodge 35, Elk, was called to order on Oct. 9th, at 3 p.m. President Henry Breitkreutz, Sr., presided, with Flag Bearer Eddie Ray Banik leading the pledge of allegiance.

President Breitkreutz welcomed Tillie Matus as our visitor. He then called on Secretary Albert Banik to read the minutes of the last meeting. These minutes were approved after a couple of minor changes.

Brother Banik then read correspondence received. This correspondence was in the form of thankyou notes from Sister Marie Reichardt and Brother Henry Breitkreutz, Jr., both of whom had been in the hospital.

Treasurer Henry Breitkreutz, Jr. gave his report.

The youth club report was given

by Sister Rosemarie Banik. She said the car wash that was held at the September meeting was a great success and she commended all the youth on doing a very fine job.

She also spoke of the State YAD and what a good job Honey Brown, Dawn Pavelka, Missy Steinke, and Tammie Hand did on their talent.

Sister Banik said that, in the youth meeting they had discussed their Christmas party but had not set a date at that time. She then asked all the members who would be celebrating a birthday in October to gather on the stage so everyone could sing "Happy Birthday" to them. Those having birthdays were Brothers Louis Jurecka, Vernon Dulock and Eddie Ray Banik.

President Breitkreuts then called on the committees to make their monthly reports. Sister Rosemarie Banik made the kitchen report, Brother Eugene Pavelka made the entertainment report, and Brother Vernon Wood made the refreshment report.

Building Chairman Brother Vernon Wood stated that there was some lumber that was removed from the building when the new siding was put on. He said that several people had asked him about it and he wanted some response from the assembly as to how he should expose of it.

Dear Members and Friends: I am going to dispense with the other things that went on at our meeting to tell you about the upcoming events.

Sister Audrey Kaluza, our Entertainment Chairperson has announced that she has the tickets for the hind quarter of beef to be given away at our Christmas party, which will be held Dec. 4th, from 2 to 8 p.m., at the K of C Hall in LaIVIarque. Refreshments will be given away until 4 p.m.; after that time they will be sold.

On Dec. 10th, we will have a shop for the Dickens on the Strand.

The menu will consist of seafood gumbo. The time will be from 6 to 11 p.m. and set-up time is 2 p.m.

We are going to need as many workers as we can get to, help. Sister Kaluza, would like for everyone to wear traditional costumes from the Dickens era. If you need any information on a costume, call Sister Kaluza at 935-6895; also, as you know, it is going to take a lot of ingredients to make the gumbo, so we are asking each member to donate at least $5. You can send the money to Sister Kaluza.

Sister Kaluza wants you to know that Lodge 173 will host the spring meeting of District V. There will be

We also want to send a speedy recovery wish to Sister Irene Mansfield who is in the hospital.

Dear Members and Friends: Since I haven't written in a long time, I don't know how to begin.

What prompted me to write is that I ordered a record of the SPJST XXIInd Convention Chorus' performance at the Waco convention. I want to congratulate and compliment the Chorus singers, the wonderful music, and the director for the wonderful work. The entire performance was just great.

The only thing is, I wish I had the words to those songs so I could sing along when I play the record.

I don't have any news to write about our lodge, except we continue having our meetings. In fact we have one less member at our meetings since Sister Bessie Mikeska left us (nas opustila). She moved to San Angelo and I am happy for her that she made that move because her letter to me sounds like she is very satisfied in her new home especially if she is as happy as I am when we made a move from Placedo to Victoria. Our move that time was like a jump compared to Sister Mikeska's move.

The happiest thing was for her was moving closer to her son, B. J. MIkeska, his wife, and her three grandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren.

I want to compliment Mr. John Stasa of Corpus Christi for the writeup about the history of Buckholts. It is interesting to read about the old settlers there. The picture of Mr. Stasa's farm house and the little Model T Ford (the image of My husband's; we married Jan. 18th, 1926). In the Buckholts history, there are a lot of familiar names in the area, namely Zajicek, some of whom are relatives of my husband. They lived around Fayetteville, Nelsonville and Bellville.

I wonder if they are related? There were Fred Zajicek, Frank Zajicek, John Zajicek, etc.

The October meeting was called to order by President Della Kadlecek on Wednesday, Oct. 12th, at 11:10 a.m.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Sister Rosalee Kostom and were accepted as read.

A complete report by the treasurer, Sister Mary Tilich, was also accepted as read.

Many thanks to Sister Edna Wehring and Brother Willie Wehring for furnishing all the food for, the first Wednesday luncheon; these are two great people and they are always helping someone.

GREAT NEWS; Sisters. The cookbooks will be delivered by our next Birthday Club meeting. Sister Birdie Hilsher and Sister Evelyn Mikalas are in charge of selling our Bicentennial Cookbooks, so please contact one of these sisters and they will see that you receive a cookbook.

Sister Mary Russell is in the Northwest Memorial Hospital, Room 113. Sister Russell is missed very much because she is always willing to help with any project.

We wish you a speedy recovery, Mary.

Speaking of willing workers, he is Brother Joe Fusig, husband of Sister Mary Fusig. We have been missing both of these dear members and it was just reported that Brother Joe Fusig has been in the hospital but he is now at home.

Brother Fusig had blood poisoning in his hand. He tried to use home remedies when he stuck a wire into his hand, accidently, but that didn't work and Brother Joe had to go to the hospital. We are glad he is recovering and we are looking forward to seeing you real soon.

Sister Imogene Caldwell's husband has been ill and we have missed Sister Caldwell.

Hostesses for our first luncheon were Sisters Lucy Fredo, Sadie Barlow (for her mother, Sister Sadie Frazier), Louise Chudej (for Sister Anna Hoffman), and Sister Sue High. Many thanks to you sisters.

The second luncheon Sister Jean Doerr worked for Sister Sadie Barlow because Sister Barlow was ill. The luncheons were very good.

Sister Louise Kadlecek has retired from her bookkeeping job and we are looking forward to seeing Sister Louise at the Birthday Club luncheons. Sister Kadlecek has always been a member and she would come and eat and then rush back to work; now she can enjoy the fun with us. Brother Ed Kadlecek is happy to have his lovely wife at home with him all day.

The actual ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. and officials from the Supreme Lodge will be in charge of the chartering ceremonies. A band for your dancing pleasure will be available.

FEATURES CONVERSATIONAL CZECH TO BE TAUGHT AT DANBURY Mrs. Ilka Smith will be gin teaching another Czech language course Nov. 1st, 1977, at 7 p.m. This Czech language course will be offered through Brazosport College extension in Danbury. Registration will begin Tuesday, Nov. 1st in Danbury, Brazoria, County, Texas.

This course presents the fundamentals of the Czech language.

The Czech vocabulary is developed to reach the student to carry out simple conversation as well as the reading of simple short paragraphs and writing simple sentences. The cultural background of Czechoslovakia is presented to help the student appreciate the Czech heritage and better understand the language.

Mrs. Smith was born and educated in Czechoslovakia and is well qualified to present the correct Czech language.

- SPJST TAYLOR LODGE NO. 29, MAKES AREA DONATION It is always gratifying to acknowledge fraternal contributions and gestures on the part of our lodges, particularly when they aid the community in which they are located.

Recently, Lodge in Taylor donated $500 to , the Williamson County Activities Center. The Center operates a school and on-thejob employment for retarded children and adults. It is located in the city of Taylor.

This is definitely involving the lodge in the community and in a worthwhile and benevolent project. The cause is certainly noble.

The $500 contribution will be used to help cover routine operating expenses. The officers and members of Lodge 29 are to be commended.

MISS GRACE OLSON AND ROBERT J. CERVENKA EXCHANGE WEDDING VOWS Grace Marie Olson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond 0. Olson, and Robert C. Cervenka, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph J. Cervenka, all of Corpus Christi, were married 'Satuilday evening, Nov. 13th, 1976 in Christ Lutheran Church. Pastor Wilburn P. Kensing performed the impressive ceremony.

The bride who was presented in marriage by her father, wore a formal gown made by the bride and her mother.

The gown was made of Lutesong with appliques of lace accented with pearls. Her cathedral length train was of tulle appliqued with lace and pearls and held in place by a Julette cap of lace and pearls.

For her bouquet, the bride carried miniature mums, white roses and an orchid surrounded by lots of baby's /breath.

The groom wore a white Newport tux with matching vest and a white rosebud and baby's breath boutonniere.

Mrs. John Olson of Beaumont, sister-in-law of the bride, was matron of honor. Mrs. Wayne Olson,

cousin of the bride, Mrs. Rodger Price and Miss Rebecca Riehl of Brown.swood served as bridesmaids; all attendants wore gowns of coral crepe and. Juliette caps of coral crepe with shades of coral roses and daisies filling the crown.

They carried bouquets or roses and daisies.

Rudolph W. Cervenka, brother of the groom was best man.

John Olson of Beaumont, brother of the bride, Rodger Price and Gary Sellstrom, served as groomsmen. They wore black tuxedos with coral colored shirts and coral rosebud boutonnieres.

Ushers included Wayne Olson, cousin of the bride, and Emil Levek of Robstown.

Musical selections for the wedding were played by organist Mrs. Merkord.

The bride's table was covered with floor-length tulle over satin.

A silver candelabra was behind the bridal bouquet which was the centerpiece.

The wedding cake had five separate cakes as a base which gave a daisy base appearance, and four other tiers above. It was iced in white with shades of coral roses.

MRS. ROBERT bride's mother chose a formal of turquoise crepe accented with silver trim at neck and cuffs, complemented by a corsage of yellow roses. The father wore a black tuxedo with coral shirt and yellow rosebud boutonniere.

The groom's mother selected a formal of yellow chiffon over crepe and corsage of yellow roses. Her husband also had a black tuxedo, coral shirt and a yellow rosebud boutonniere.

For her honeymoon, the bride wore a tan dress with matching accessories, accented with an orchid corsage.

The bride is a graduate of Ray High School and attended Del Mar College.

The groom is a graduate of Mary Carroll High School and a 1975 graduate of Del Mar College.

The couple is now residing in Corpus Christi.

Attention All Youth Members, Youth Leaders, Assistants, and Parents of District II: There will be a Halloween Dance sponsored by District II Sunday afternoon, Oct. 30th, 1977, from 5 to 9 p.m. This dance will be held at the SPJST Lodge No. 177, in Academy, with music by the Texas Express Band from Rogers. This band specializes in satisfying the youth so we would like to see a large turnout at this dance. You will be allowed to bring a friend and we hope they will enjoy themselves and also become members of our SPJST Society.

There will be no admission charge and there will also be some snacks served at about 6:30 p.m.

LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE

Dear Readers, Now that the State YAD and Royalty contests are over everyone can breathe a sigh of relief and get back to normal.

This year I attended my first Royalty contest. The lodge was very elegant and as the contest reached a climax, you could feel the suspense. My family and I were very proud when our District VI queen was named first runnerup. She is Annie Marie Zabransky, my sister. Her duchess was Kim Drozd.

The following day we attended the State YAD. Representing our lodge youth club was Janell Chudej, Kim Drozd and Annie Zabransky; they did not place, but we were very proud of them. Our club received a plaque for being one of the top ten youth clubs in the state.

Following the State YAD we were notified by a letter from Mrs. Massey that our youth club was the No. 1 club in the district due to an error in tabulation. I would like to thank the youth club members, their parents, my assistant, and everyone who helped us receive this honor because we worked very hard for it.

Sunday, Oct. 9th our lodge held its meeting Following their meeting, our youth club presented a short program in which a Halloween Mask Contest was done.

The judges were August Holub, Hilmer Galetka and Joe Woytek,

Jr. The winners were Mark Sevcik, Kathy Zak and Jean Zak. The youth then had their meeting. They discussed the district meeting, Halloween party, charity, and other things.

Following their meeting, Mrs. Maryln Sevcik presented a program on makeup, which was enjoyed by an.

Winner of the October birthday cake was Frank Zabransky. Adult door prize winner was Erwin Holy, while Jean Zak won the youth prize.

Fraternally, Lynn Leonhardt (15) (10-20-77) President - SPJST LODGE NO. 117, ROBSTOWN Dear Readers, The Robstown youth club held their regular monthly meeting on Oct. 15th, at 2 p.m., at the Jackson Woods Scout Hut. The meeting was called to order by President Brent Hrncir. Then Mr. Foerster, our guest speaker, played his guitar and sang some songs, which everyone enjoyed.

Afterward, Frances McDonald read the minutes from the previous meeting because Secretary Tim Pownell was not present. The minutes were approved as read.

Mrs. Hrncir then called the roll and 28 members were present.

A discussion was held on our future activities, some of them are: a skating party, a movie trip, Christmas party, a dance, and a bowling party. Plans were made for a spookhouse and a Halloween party to be held Oct. 30th at the Jackson Woods Scout Hut. Each member is allowed to bring one guest.

The treasurer's report was given and the committees gave reports.

Reports were given on the State YAD. Robstown received four blue ribbons.

The meeting was adjourned and a birthday party was held. Refreshments were served by Michele Hunt, David Hunt, Meridith Hand, Brent Hrncir and Brad =my.

Our next monthly meeting will be held on Nov. 19th, at the Jackson Woods Scout Hut. Members are reminded to bring their gifts for the people at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home at Christmastime.

Fraternally, Frances McDonald (14) (10-20-77) Reporter - SPJST -LODGE NO. 66, WACO Dear Readers, The District III fall youth club meeting was held Sunday, Oct. lath at Lodge 84, Dallas. The meeting was called to order by President Charlotte Banik, followed by the roll call of lodges. (See the table in the District III YC report for lodges and number attending).

Our district youth club bought a PA system as a charity project for the Taylor S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home. This project was delivered on Sept. 24th by Mr. Ed Kamas and our club president, Charlotte Banik.

A motion was made and passed that the District III Youth Fund provide refreshments following our spring activity social.

We will be getting more cookbooks to sell as soon as possible.

The lodges wishing to sell these will be able to get some from Mr. Kamas.

It was brought up and voted on to reimburse our district youth counselor for the additional amount of money he used to purchase our charity project. We will also find out what the rest home needs the most and we will then decide at our spring meeting on a specific kind of item to donate to them as our charity item.

It was reported that the volleyball championship trophies will be arriving soon. Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood; Lodge 54 West; and Lodge '6 Waco, will be entitled to these trophies.

Brother Matejcek was born June 1st, 1902 in Dime Box, the son of the late William and Amine Fetter Matejcek. He was a devoted, faithful and consecrated member of Dime Box Brethren Church, where he was confirmed on Sept.

1st, 1923 by the late Rev. F. IL Horak. On Nov. 27th, 1927, Brother Matejcek married Clara Hannes.

Brother Matejcek was a member of the SPJST Society since January, 1925.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 21st at 10 a.m. at Dime Box Brethren Church, with Rev. H. E. Beseda officiating; interment at Hranice Cemetery, under the direction of Phillip and Lucky, of Giddings.

Survivors include his wife Clara Matejcek; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Suehs of Lexington; two sons, Max Matejcek of Houston and Bill lVfatejcek of Waco; one brother, Joe Matejcek of Giddings; four sisters, Mrs. Julie •Schkade of Giddings, Mrs. Velma Dietrich of Houston, Mrs. Fannie Hahn of Waco, and Mrs. Annie Hannes of Leroy; 11 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren.
