FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Recently, these columns carried the reminder that our fall SPJST district meetings are upon us and, of course, that is very true and soon will be over with. We should all take interest in them. In the same vein, we should also keep in mind that the 77th Annual Texas Fraternal Congress will again meet in convention at the Stephen F. Austin Hotel in Austin, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Oct. 22, 23, and 24. By the list of our SPJST sales contest winners who won the paid trips to the TFC, we can see that our SPJST will be well represented and congratulations are clue all of them. It is hoped that they attend. The program of the TFC reveals that Sunday, Oct. 23rd, when the afternoon business session convenes at 2 p.m., the keynote address will be delivered by State Representative Dan Kubiak, (District 36), and at 7 p.m. the banquet address will be delivered by State Representative Joe A. Hubenak (District 21). They are both SPJST members and are well thought of and our Society is proud that two of the most important addresses of the convention are being delivered by our fraternal brothers and mOnbens. Additional representation of our Society will be by members of our SL, of course. It is hoped that the 77th TFC will have successful and fruitful sessions all three days en ci that
TODAY'S QUOTE . . There is nothing too little for so little a creature as man. It is by studying little things that we can attain the great knowledge of having as little misery and as much happiness as possible. —Dr. Johnson Talent for talent's sake is a bauble and a show. Talent working with joy in the cause of universal truth lifts the possessor to new power as a benefactor. —Emerson Cooperation is a wonderful thing . . . even freckles would make a nice tan if they would get together. Sumertime is the time when it is too hot to do the chores around the house you didn't do last winter because it was too cold. the future will bring good results to all societies represented there, for, after all, we are all in the same fraternal field of work. * * In that same period of October, namely, Sunday, Oct. 23rd, there are two other SPJST events scheduled for that day: the District VI meeting at Sweet Home and the annual Czech Day at Lodge No. 88, Houston in District V. In eases such as these, your editor's conscience must decide where the main duty and obligation to our
Society really are, and, often it is not such an easy decisiOn to make, so we do our best. At any rate, Texas is large enough to make all of these a success! * * "We are living too fast." How often have we all, heard that phrase? And it really seems to be true. On a Friday night about 10 p.m. after all the proofs are read, I take a ride home down the service road by Hwy. 1-35, where there is a continuous ribbon of headlights with cars almost bumper-tobumper in a steady stream. The words of this song come to mind: "All those lonely people! Where do they all come from?" Of course, they are going somewhere to do something, but the question has to cross your mind — will all of them get there and back traveling at that helter-skelter speed? * * For our sales representatives: Know your business — know/edge of the history of our Society, its place in the fraternal family, and the laws affecting it are essential for ethical and efficient operation. Give service .‘fa society has ethical justification only so long as it contributes to the maintenance and enjoyment of man's life as a rational being. Never compromise your integrity — the success of a fraternal in a free society depends on mutual trust and confidence between producers and consumers,
