still another, a wife not at all like his mother. Security is intangible, it's the thing that makes people more comfortable. Feelings are not always logical, but once you begin to look at them honestly you can sometimes apply logic in handling them. You can gain insight into reasons for your own behavior, but most people are so rigid they won't look.

Everyone needs to learn how to live with problems because everyone has them. You can learn to live with them by learning what they are and perhaps even what causes them, and sometimes you can solve them. *** It is so true friends don't happen, they must be cultivated...The way to have friends is to be a friend. And, according to the dictionary, a friend is "one who cherishes kind regard for."

And cherish means "to care for kindly; foster; nurture."

In other words, you have to work at being a friend. You cannot be a fairweather friend, so to speak, who withdraws at the first sign of a storm. If someone says something untrue about your friend or something unkind without the basis of fact, you will come to his or her defense. You won't agree with your friend's enemies or keep quiet just to remain popular with those in whose company you find yourself. Think about this; how many of your "friends" will defend you if it seems unpopular?

NEVVSBRIEFS LODGE 47, SEATON ANNUAL PICNIC This year's picnic has been set for Sunday, July 24th. Plans are underway for a bigger-than-ever celebration.

Plans include a Sokol gymnastic exhibition, performance by the Seaton Brass Band, visiting Beseda dancers, a complete and well-stocked Czech Country Store, outdoor refreshment stand, outdoor sausage sandwich grill concession, dunking booth, plenty of food, and free dance from 6 to 10 p.m. with music by the Vrazel Polka Band.

Refreshment stand opens at 12 noon; other concession stands at 1:30 and 3.

B-b-q plates served starting at 2 p.m. and continuing into the afternoon and evening.

Seaton Brass Band at 1:30 and 4:30; Sokol Gymnasts at 2:15; Beseda Dancers at 3 p.m.

Our contest is still on and everyone has a chance, as you know, by just writing a policy on someone you are doing them a big favor by helping them obtain the protection they need and you are also helping them build an estate. Where else can they buy all the benefits that the SPJST has to offer?

/ 1I, LODGE NO. 84, ALLAS Dear Members: Our lodge picnic in Ennis, at the Poklaclnik farm, can be reached by taking Interstate 45 out of Dallas and the exit on FM 85, turn left, go under the underpass and stay on 85 for about 10 miles.

Barbecue on bun with beans, chips and cake for dessert await you, if you are hungry around 12:30 - 1 p.m.

There will be horses to ride, hayrides too, and volleyball, horseshoe pitching, and plenty of ice cold beverages.

The fishing contest ends at 1 p.m., so get an early start toward the tank that has the biggest, the smallest, and the most, just waiting for your hook. Sulphur will be furnished to keep the chiggers away.

Bring your own chairs and tables if you intend to play cards, dominoes or just rest It is always a lot f fun and this year is no exceMon. We look forward to a big crowd.

August 6th - How about dancing to the Polka Patriots' music?

This happy group keeps you on the dance floor all night and you really should come and enjoy this music as well as our cool lodge building, kitchen and bar, too.

We still need a bride's wreath and veil, the older the better, and a donation of these two items would be very much appreciated to complete a planned bridal display.

Our museum traffic has been rather heavy since the school vacation started; vacationers from everywhere are stopping daily to see our LAM department. This past week we had a visitor from Soldatna, Alaska, which is quite a ways from Temple and we are always happy to show our visitors through the entire Supreme Lodge Building.

Dear Members and Friends: July 7, 1977 was such a special day that I thought I would write to let those of you know who missed the Fourth of July youth program held at our lodge July 3rd, with the other fine entertainment, delicious barbecue sausage, beans and salads, that was enjoyed by those who attended, what you missed.

There was food prepared for a larger crowd for the noon meal, but after 8 p.m., the ballroom became filled. I must say the lodge was beautifully decorated with pine needle branches with small flags. The program consisted of individual talent by special youth members. After the program I heard nice comments and those who were able to see and hear the numbers performed, also enjoyed it.

It seems that so many folks are on vacation and some folks like to go to lakes or beaches for recreation because it is so hot and

Father's Day was an enjoyable day also. The youngest and the oldest visiting fathers received nice gifts. Ray thanks all who had something to do with giving him the beautiful key chain and knife which is useful and he appreciates it very much.

Sister Hafner and family came during the afternoon and Brother Hafner, our ex-president came later in the evening. We enjoyed the requested songs and his singing, too. We always enjoy his singing, especially the "Prune Song," and other Czech songs.

July 10th was District II Youth Achievement Day in Holland and a large group planned on going; so I hope nothing got in their way to keep them from attending. A safe and enjoyable trip was wished to them.

Dear Members: The regular lodge meeting was held July 6th, at 7:30 p.m., with Vice President Ricky Benner, presiding.

Minutes from the June meeting were accepted as read.

Gary Gersbach was accepted as a new member of our lodge.

It was voted by the members to donate $25 to the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in memory of our departed Brother Dick Latham.

Brother D. I. Bohac gave a good bar report for the month of June.

There was no other business and the meeting adjourned at 845 p.m. The happy hour followed.

Lodge 80 lost two faithful members in the passing of Brother Latham and Brother Rudy Ivicic.

Brother Latham served our lodge as vice president some years back.

8 LODGE NO. 188, CENTERVILLE Dear Members: Lodge 188 met for their July meeting at Wrangler Park, Buffalo.

A progress report was given on our lodge building.

Special thanks were given to Gene Lee and T. C. Ellis for the dirt work on the property.

The SPJST float won third place in the July 4th parade. Mrs. Emma Lou Bass, youth leader, arranged for Lodge 188 to be represented.

Evelyn Schwab assisted and “Smitt y" Smith furnished the truck and trailer. Carolyn and Maurice Ellis, Diane and Freddie Howie built the fence around the tennis court. Royal Gregory loaned the fence material for the dance. They also decorated a trailer for the bandstand. Mike Dixon and David Free assisted with moving the tables and chairs.

Carolyn and Roy Bain Carrigan were in charge of the concession stand at the dance and also all day July 4th.

The Cleanup Committee included Andre Schwab, Broomfields, Freddie Howie and Maurice Ellis.

There was a moment of silent prayer for Brother Marek. The members of our lodge wish to extend their deepest sympathy to his family.

Plans were franticly made for our chartering ceremonies. It was decided to call a special meeting for the following Thursday night at Texas Realty Co. to give additional reports and to make further plans.

Following the meeting a social was held. Thanks to all members who donated the refreshment& During the last few weeks we have attended picnics at New Tabor and Dime Box. Thanks to all of you for making our visit so enjoyable.

On June 22nd, Calvin and Josephine Shenkir were in a car accident. Brother Shenkir was killed. Sister Shenkir is recuperating at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. This sudden tragedy has saddened the members of our lodge. We extend heartfelt sympathy to his wife and all the members of his family.

Our chartering ceremonies will be in the past when this letter is printed. Many preparations have been made to make this an enjoyable affair. We enjoyed having you attend and we hope you had an enjoyable evening with us.

Also on the special guests lists, we were pleased to have had District V Sales Representative Sister Evelyn Mikeska, accompanied by her husband, Otto. She also spoke briefly, expressing words interest and benefit to our lodge.

We enjoyed their visit and hope they will come again soon.

The day was hot, but luckily, a cool breeze could be felt all through the day and made it quite cornfortable.

Tape music was played for the pleasure of the members who came to relax. Games were provided for the youngsters and the swimming pool was a lively place. Some volleyball arf'd domino players got into competition to show each other how good they are, It was very interesting to see families coming in with baskets of food and spreading it all out on the tables to enjoy a snack whenever anybody was ready to eat. There could have been more members present but, many had left town not to return being a Fourth of July weekend until Monday, and the picnic was Sunday; ;3o it could not be helped.

Those who were present did have a very good time and enjoyed the old-time family picnic.

I talked to Frank and Della Barta, originally from Flatonia, who made Houston their home 38 years ago. They have two daughters, Peggy , 18, and Theresa, 16. Peggy was valedictorian of the 136-student class at St. Pius School and will enter Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. I know Frank and Della are very proud of their daughters, and so are we.

William and Maxine Dale had their mother with them, Mrs. H. McNeal from Port Neches.

The Amos Kadleceks were on the spot 100 percent, down to the grandchildren. Also present was the Mendoza family with Kathy, princess of 1974, and Becky, duchess the same year.

Members Sisters Lillie Spies and Emily Krischke, enjoyed a nice vacation in Portugal for two

weeks, sponsored by the Catholic Daughters. They left Houston June 15th and returned June 29th, Both sisters were enchanted by all the beautiful scenery in the foreign countries. They visited Lisbon, Nazerene, Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris, France. We are glad you are hack with us.

Members, and my good friends, Dean Tubbs and Tony Garza, spent the second week of their vacation driving to Missouri in Tony's new Pontiac automobile to spend a week with Dean's mother, Mrs. F. Inman. On their way home they stopped in Hot Springs and arrived safely home Sunday, July 3rd. They were sorry to have missed the lodge picnic. Next time plan a little better.

This year so many of our members spent vacations overseas.

June 7th Brother and Sister Frank Slanina and, on the same tour, Brother and Sister William Samohyl joined the pilgrimage for the Canonization of Blessed John Nepomucene, Neuman. They enjoyed the company of Rev. Mazurkovich of La Grange, and the Most Rev. John L. Morkovsky, bishop of Galveston. From Prague, Czechoslovakia, they traveled to Linz, Salzburg and saw the castle that was in the movie, "The Sound of Music," Innsbruck, Austria, and then to. Venice, Florence, Rome, Italy; Barcelona, Spain; Lourdes, France and Dublin, Ireland. They spent 18 beautiful days touring, and they enjoyed every minute of it, but they were also glad to be back home June 25th, and we were glad to see them.

Brother Jake and Sister Louise Jacobs became proud grandparents again with the new addition to their other six grandchildren keeping them busy. Grandson Jeromy made his entrance to this world July 2, 1977. He is the son of their youngest daughter, Dinah, married to Donnie Day. Louise and Jake raised two more daughters, Linda, married to Leonard Bennett, and they presented them with two granddaughters,§haelly, 5, Christie, 3, and one grandson, Michael 2. Daughter Patsy married to Sam Sakowitz and their contribution to the family are Tamy, 3, and Lori, 1. There are seven grandchildren — five girls and two boys. Louise and Jake are very proud of their closely knit family;

both, with two sons-in-law, work in their well-established egg business on W. 18th. Congratulations.

Several orders have been received for the famous convention record and, by the time you will read these lines, we will be able to start filling the orders. For your information here are a few more tips I wish to point out and bring to your attention. Some of the numbers were sung with an 11piece string ensemble and some with an 8-piece brass ensemble and some with both. The great number "Battle Hymn Of The Republic," is in itself a big production, complete with drum corps and narration. Hearing it on your record, you will be able to visualize the performance as it was presented on the huge stage in Waco.

A leisurely and pleasant weekend at the races was enjoyed by a group of 40 congenial members of Lodge No. 88 from July 8th through Sunday, July 11th. Driving to Lafayette, La., on a safely-driven Trailsway Bus, with all the conveniences, after a four-hour drive, we arrived at our destination and we all were ready to try our luck and experience the excitement of the horse races, which we didn't know a thing about, but as it goes, some were lucky and were experiencing the feel of a few preciously won dollars in their hand as they returned to the betting window and made another donation.

Sister Doris Knapiek made all the arrangements with her husband, Henry at her side. They were great! They took care of everything and all of us just enjoyed the trip. I was happy to share a room with Sisters Pearl Hanka and Jackie Davis. Being in a group like ours, something is bound to happen to one individual for the amusement of the whole group and there is no way of living it down, because in short, they will not let you forget the blunder you make. Out of pure innocence, Pearl, Jackie, John and Clifford wanted a fresh cup of coffee. I didn't care for any, so I just got the key from Pearl to our room to rest awhile, and as you know all

Poor Frances went in and made herself at home, and all of a sudden the door opened and there were John and Clifford staring at me. Astonished, I blurted out: Hey, what are you doing in our room? Both burst out laughing so hard they couldn't talk, but when they could, they wanted to know what I was doing in THEIR room which they had failed to lock on the way out. I was embarrassed, but it wasn't totally my fault, they left the door unlocked and I didn't Zook at the number. They accused me of having a master key to a]) the rooms. I am happy it wasn't anything serious. We all had a good time because they all were good sports.

Dear Members and Friends: I am finally getting around to writing this letter after putting it off for about two weeks. Yes, May and June were two busy months for us; first it was the weekend of May 21 and 22, the Oleander Festival in Galveston, and then June 5th we honored Sister Peregrina Dusek on her 96th birthday, which we were happy we could celebrate and wish her many more happy birthdays.

June 17, 18, and 19, we were at the Festival on The Strand in Galveston. At both of these festivals we had our Czech food booth, serving Czech foods and pastries, and both festivals were successful. That is why I want to thank you ladies for baking all the delicious cakes and pastries and thanks to all who helped in cooking, serving and in any other way they could help. Again, a big thank you to all members and friends of the lodge who donated food and their assistance.

A special thank you to The Czech Heritage Singers and the musicians under the direction of Father Paul Chovanec who furnished the Czech singing and music. There were also other musicians playing Czech music at our booth nearly all the time. I want to thank you all for donating your time and talent. This made every-

11 one's work easier, listening to the Czech music and singing.

This also took a lot of time in planning and making arangements for all these functions. Those who were in charge of planning the entertainment were Sister Audrey Kaluza, chmn., and Brother Johnnie Valusek, chmn. of The Czech Heritage Group. There were others who helped them, but it's too many to mention, then I might omit someone's name, so thank you all for helping.

Now you can see why we took the month of July off for we are not, having a lodge meeting. Our next meeting will be August 14th at the KC Hall on Delaney Road in La Marque, at 3 p.m. We will be looking forward to seeing you at this meeting. By that time I hope we will have been able to close the deal on the 5 acres of land we are buying for the lodge. At the time of writing this letter, the title company has everything ready and waiting for the, lawyer to draw up the deed. It looks as if we will have some more busy months ahead, so let's all support our lodge!

Then to make the month of June happier, The Czech Heritage Singers had their first record, "A Bouquet of Czech Songs," released June 28th and we were happy.

It took time to prepare this album of 12 •beautiful Czech songs and we were happy we could make this record. I would like to thank Father Paul Chovanec for directing us, and the time you have donated in helping to preserve our Czech songs and music. We are proud of you as our director and that you can devote your time from your busy schedule.

Dear Readers: The Seaton Choral Club met last night for its regular rehearsal with the following members present: Alfred and Martha Klusacek, Alfred L. and Ginger Klusacek, Otto and Matilda Harms, Annie Jakubee, our talented leader; Albina Mikeska, who has been visiting in California for several months and whom we are happy to have back with us; Leonora Mucha, Valle Zavodny, Bill and Lillian Kosarek, Laverne Vanicek, Georgia Sodek, Frank and Eleonora Spanhel, Ed and Rosa Schneider, Elsie Cabla, Janet and Althea Young, Daniel and Linda Wilde, Leon Sodek, Ruby Bolton, Evelyn Stuteville, Woodrow and Viola Chervenka, Bob and Mary Vasicek. It was a real good turnout and we hope it will be even better next time.

We had a great time singing the old beloved songs that are always such a pleasure to sing, but we need more of you gentlemen to come out and take part in our singing. The following had birthdays in July: Laverne Vanicek, Frank Spanhel, Althea, Young and Vallie Zavodny; we sang their favorite songs and wished them a happy birthday, and many more.

After rehearsal we had a short business meeting and after reading the minutes from our last meeting which were accepted as written, we discussed the trip to the Czech Days Polka Fest in Lincoln, Neb. A total of 16 Choral Club members decided to go and we can accommodate some 23 non-members for this trip. The Polka Fest will be Friday, August 12th thru Sunday, August 14th. There will be 24 bands playing during the 3-day stay. Motel accommodations are $18 for two people, $20 for 3 people, and $22 for 4 people in the same room. Admission charge to the Polk Fest is $3 per day. The fare to Lincoln and back is $41.30 provided we fill the buss to capacity (39). The bus will leave here either late Thursday p.m early Friday morning but the majority want to leave Thursday evening.

Sister Martha Milan was elected as our youth leader and we wish her good luck. She was doing a great job as assistant youth leader.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Sisters Jeanie Mason and Rose Steinman and Brother Frankie Milan. May you all have many more!

Sister Martha Milan was our door prize recipient.

Everyone enjoyed the refreshments and social that followed.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, August 14th, at 3 p.m.

Sister Kathy Picha was honored with a bridal shower and wedding bells will be ringing.

Congratulations to Joane and Bernard Joe Berry who were wed July 2nd. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Marchioni and the groom is the son of Sister Mary Andreas, all of Fort Worth.

We wish a speedy recovery to Brother Scott Schramm who is in Peter Smith Hospital.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Brother Henry Banfi and family of Chicago on the loss of his brother, and wish his father who is still hospitalized after a car

accident, a speedy recovery.

Hope everyone is surviving the heat wave and our drought is getting no better.

Fraternally, Mary Pavey -LODGE NO. 84, DALLAS SOFTBALL TEAM Dear Readers: Our Monday night, July 4th, game was won by a score of 7 to 0 on a forfeit. The other team agreed not to show up for the game.

Tuesday night, July 5th we played Mark III and lost by a score of 9 to 2. Roy Andrews was the losing pitcher and no account records are available on the opponent's results. Leading our offense were Jerry Zabojnik with 2 singles and a walk; Don Jarma, a single; Robert Weyman, a single; Jeff Burton, a walk; Alan Lucien, a walk, and Don Lennox with a walk.

This wasn't one of our good games as you can deduce by the score.

Saturday morning, July 9th, we opened play at 9:30 a.m. in the Stephenville Tournament against a strong team from Saginaw, called the Sandfleas. We lost by a score of 3 to 2, but only 1 run was earned because we had a mental lapse and a dropped ball allowing 2 unearned runs Ralph Stauss pitched a fine game allowing 4 hits, 2 walks and had 4 strikeouts and we should have won this game. Leading hitters were Mark Winkler with a 2-run homer, Jerry Zabojnik; a double and a single; Don Jarma, a double; Robert Weyman, a single; Jeff Burton, a single.

We out hit our opponents 6 to 4, but they outscored us. By virtue of the loss we dropped down to the losers' bracket with a 3:30 p.m. game.

After our morning game we had a picnic lunch under a large shade tree on picnic tables, enjoyed a baked ham brought by Willie and Carlyn Ondrusek and baked by Carlyn, and was it delicious!; also Polish sausage and other meals, and rye bread furnished by Ida and Lionel Schulz, tomatoes, cheese, pickles, bread and chips by Lillie Jarma, and chips, bread, cookies, tomatoes and other goodies by the players and their wives.

The team furnished soft drinks

and pivo for the thirst. The food was enjoyed by all present and the team wishes to thank Willie and Carlyn for bringing ham, and Ida and Lionel Schulz for the cold cuts and rye bread, also thanks to everyone else who brought food, tea, and other items. It really was fun as well as in between time, several of the players and their wives enjoyed the swimming pool at the motel between games.

We played game No. 2 at 3:30 pm., against Zip's Paint from Dallas. We started off with 3 runs in the first inning and 2 more in the second and held a 5-run lead until the top of the 5th inning when 2 errors, 4 walks and 3 hits by the other team put us behind, 6 to 5.

They scored an additional run in the 6th inning to beat us by a score of 7 to 5. This was a humiliating defeat and left the team in low spirits, including the manager.

When you have the best team and still lose, well it is hard to take, but it's one of those things that happen.

Lionel Schulz hurled the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, and had 3 strikeouts, and Ralph Stauss hurled the final inning and one-third, allowing 3 hits, no walks, and gave up the final run. This eliminated us from the tournament. After this game we had additional sandwiches and other food, including drinks. Some of the players checked out of their motel rooms and headed home.

Several of the players and their wives remained overnight and went home Sunday.

Saturday night six couples went to the Catfish Cabin and enjoyed a delicious seafood meal.

Though we lost both of our games, which we didn't enjoy, I feel the trip and the fellowship with a good time we had being together, helped ease the pain a little and overall, we had fun in Stephenville, a fine tournament town.

We were scheduled to play a makeup game Monday night, July llth, our final game in our Monday Night League and our Tuesday Night League has been completed.

The Dallas City Championship Playoffs will be played the weekend of July 29, 30, and 31.

Team Manager - SPJST ABOUT THE JUDGES AT THE DISTRICT III YAD

Below is a list of the judges and their qualifications, who judged the District III YAD. Craft -Mrs. Bea Rodriguez of 3620 N. 21st, Waco, teaches craft at McLennan Community College. She also teaches sewing, knitting, painting and cake decorating. Her husband is a captain in the Waco Police Dept.

Mrs. Lena Tickell is a bookkeeper at Sherwin-Williams Paint Co. She lives at 6312 Hayden. She works with paintings and arts.

She has 2 sons and 2 grandsons.

Mrs. Lillian Lievens of 2524 Glendale, Waco, is married and has four children. She works in the fabric department of MontgomeryWard. She is an excellent seamstress, cook, and does beautiful embroidery.

Mr. Joe DeSmit of 2616 Alexander is married and has one child.

He is a, salesman at Bill Harris General Tire Co. He has been a boy scout leader for 21 years, receiving the beaver award, and the St. George Church award fo scouting.

Mrs. Annabel Calley of 913 Sleepy Hollow Road, Waco, is an artist, teacher, and director on the staff at the Art Center, Sunshine Lady for Pre-School Environment classes, director of Sul Ross Recreation Center. She has taught at all levels in public schools. She is a graduate of University of Indiana. She is an artist in her own right and exhibits and shows her own work.

Miss Jeanell Brittian of Hillsboro is a native of Austin, a graduate of Texas Tech, is the Home Economist at TP&L in Hillsboro.

Jeanell enjoys water sports, horticulture, sewing, cooking and is single.

Talent — Mrs. Jan Derrickson is married

13 to Jim Derrickson and has 5 children. She works for the protective services unit of McLennan County Child Welfare. She serves as director of Baird Youth Theatre. She has served on the board of directors of the Waco Civic Theatre, and has been an active member both onstage and backstage for 10 years. She has been involved in theatrical productions for over 30 years. She and her family are very active in all sports.

Mrs. Barbara Jasek Willis, Waco, has had numerous years in the performing arts, as a performer, teacher, critic, and judge. She is a member of the American Dance Camp, Dance Caravan, Texas Twirling Association, and National Contest Directors Guild. She was teacher-director of Sears Discovery Modeling Program. Her students include several of the past Baylor University Golden Girls and students who have won honors on state and national levels.

Miss Kathy Gladen graduated from the American High . School of Torreon, Mexico. She earned a bachelor's degree in music theory and composition at Baylor University. She is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta (honorary), Mu Phi Epsilon (professional music), and Omicron Delta Kappa (honorary leadership). She has been director of Baylor Student Union shows, and arranger and accompanist for clubs and acts. She has taught piano and guitar privately, and classes in English and Spanish. She is employed in the music publications department at Word Inc. She collaborated in the translation arrangement and recording of the Christian folk musical, "Tell It Like It IS," in Mexico City.

From The District Youth Counselors DISTRICT NO. II, CAMP

To AU Leaders and Campers Attending District II Camp.

Dear Members and Readers: Camp will start next week and it seems that some of the members still don't know that we had to split our camp into two sessions, so if you still have any questions after reading this letter, please feel free to call and I hope we can give you an explanation. The reason that we had to do this is that the camp that we are attending accommodates about 160 to 170 people and it seems that we will have more youth and leaders to attend.

The Junior campers, ages 6 thru 12, are scheduled to arrive at Camp Val Verde on Tuesday, July 26th, at about 10 a.m. Their first meal at camp will be noon Tuesday. In the afternoon at the 3:30 break they may purchase soda pop so they need some money for this.

The morning snack will be furnished by the camp. Also the Juniors will have a Penny Carnival one night and will need pennies

14 for this event. The Juniors will then be ready to go home on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and the Teens will arrive at this same time on Friday afternoon and their first meal will be the evening meal at about 6 p.m. that Friday and they will be ready to go home at 3:30 p.m. Monday, August lst, so that is our schedule for this year.

Items To Bring To Camp 1. Sheets 2. Pillow (if you use one) 3. Light cover 4. Swim suit and underclothes (Jr. group underclothes initialed if possible) 5. Towels and wash cloth 6. Toilet articles (soap and grooming needs) 7. Casual clothes 8. Flashlight (optional) 9. Long pants, socks and shoes (a must if you plan to ride horses) 10. Hat or cap (for hiking and archery) 11. Change of clothes for each day 12. Comfortable shoes (2 pair are desirable) because you will walk and play quite a bit.

13. Camera (if desired) 14. Suntan lotion or bug repellent (optional) 15. Tennis racquet (if you wish to play tennis), balls furnished by the district) 16. Stereo records (optional) or some favorite dance records 17, Some money for extra soda pop (there will be morning refreshments served by the camp).

Our schedule includes swimming, horseback riding, archery (for the older groups) crafts, canoeing, some hiking for all groups, outdoor games of many varieties.

Parties are being planned for each night. At this time, we still haven't got final plans as to what type of parties we will have, but we are going to plan some good ones. As of now, I know that we will have a clown on Wednesday night and a penny carnival on Thursday night, so if any of you have any costumes for these events it would add so much to our party if you would dress in some type of costume, especially Wednesday night. On Friday night there will be a dance for the teens and the rest will be planned this week.

LEADERS, PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO MAKE NAME TAGS for

the youth of your club. (This Is for the ones attending the junior camp only.) I will make name tags for the leaders and chaperones. We will have flag ceremonies twice daily and there should be a patriotic song or a poem in addition to the pledge. Each club will have 1 or 2 of these ceremonies, so plan what you will do.

The shortest way to get to Camp Val Verde is to take Hwy. 36 West out of Temple, go about 6 miles, take Hwy. 317 to the right, toward Moody and go straight through Moody and to McGregor, go to the 2nd red light in McGregor and turn right, this will be Hwy. 84 heading east toward Waco, go about 8 miles to the Val Verde exit to the left, follow that road and when you come to a "T" turn right and then take the 2nd road to the left and that takes you into camp. Stop at the flag pole for further instructions.

FOR. LOVELADY YOUTH CLUB: Look at your highway map and when you get to Waco, get on Hwy. 84 that goes from Waco to McGregor, take Val Verde exit to the right and follow instruction given above.

It seems that I am running out of time this year trying to get this in the Vestnik so I hope you will come to camp and see what else was planned this last week.

The schedule planned for this year will be a little slower especially for the junior category and will give them a little more time to rest.

We certainly hope all of you who sent in applications will be able to attend because we are having a place reserved for you in your group and your cabin and we have plans to have a great camp.

Let's all remember our fall district meeting and fun day for the youth on August 14th, at Lodge 29 in Taylor. More on this later.

DISiRICT IV CAMP District IV youth club members will camp August 1st through August 3rd at Presbyterian Encampment at Buffalo Gap. We will arrive at 8 a.m. August 1st and leave at 8 a.m. on August 4th. This is ruling of the camp.

This year we will discontinue the

name tag contest. But we will add 2 new contests. The new contests include: 1. Baseball 2. Horseshoe 3. Contest of crafts made at camp for ages 6-9, 10-12, 13-14, 15-16.

Prizes for contest No. 1 and No. 2 will be treats, and contest No. 3 will be blue, red, and white ribbons.

We will again bring home-made cookies for lunch. Each family is to bring enough for 3 days, and that should be plenty. Bring your money for soft drinks if you like, but there will be refreshments furnished in the mornings and evenings.

Each camper is to bring 2 sheets, pillow, towel, wash clothes, soap, toothbrush/paste, comb, mirror, and all other toiletry items that you use. Bring 3 changes of clothes, comfortable shoes, baseball glove, flashlight and hat if you wear one. Bring your records if you like, and last yourself with a lot of new games and ideas to make this our best camping.

1 HOLLAND LODGE HOSTS DISTRICT II YAD JULY 10, 1977

DISTRICT II ACHIEVEMENT DAY RESULTS The YAD of District No. II was well attended by both youth and adults. The youth were full of enthusiasm and they were well represented from the whole district.

There were 60 youth who participated in the talent and royalty contests and there were 160 craft entries in the arts and crafts contest. We had 6 king contestants and 6 queen contestants competing in the Royalty Contest.

On the district level, Lodge No. 20, Granger, with 24 active youth had the most entries per active youth club with 48 entries, but we did not have a contest in this category because it is too hard to figure out what is the amount of active youth in each club since it changes during the year. All youth clubs, including Academy, Seaton, Austin, Taylor, Cyclone, Rockdale, Lovelady, Granger, Elgin, and Beyersville were well represented. We certainly missed Lodge No. 15, Buckholts, and Lodge 80, Holland, and hope they enter our contests next year.

I would like to thank the youth leaders and assistants, the District II officers, District Director Henry Vitek, SYD Dorothy Massey and Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris, and many other sisters and brothers who were so very efficient in helping make our YAD such a great success. It was through your help that this day was a success and we certainly do thank everyone. I would especially wish to thank the 6 people who did all of the tabulating. Mr. Henry Vitek supervised this corn, mittee. Others on the committee were Mrs. Mary Dubec, Howard Stefka, Ronnie Reiger, Dale Kessel and Melvin Steger. The local lodge youth leaders and assistants all did their part and certainly did it well. Thank you again, one and all.

I would like to congratulate every contestant for a fine performance and I wish all the 1st place winners much luck whenever they perform at the state contests.

I am sorry that it lasted so long but I still don't feel that we should split up the talents and crafts from the royalty and have them on two different days, so next year we will

plan to leave it the same but start a little earlier in the afternoon.

Letters From The Youth LODGE NO.189, &RYAN-COLLEGE STATION The youth club had our last meeting on June 12th, after the adult meeting. We had a door prize; we raised $19.50. The winner was Claudia Novosad.

LODGE NO 54, WEST Dear Members, The July 6th, 1977, meeting of Lodge 54 Youth Club was called to order at 7 p.m. by Vice President Douglas Chudej.

Everyone present recited the pledge of allegiance and motto.

Roll call of officers revealed that President Greg Hutyra was absent because he was playing baseball.

After a motion and a second to accept the minutes of the previous meeting, as read, the minutes were duly accepted.

The treasurer gave a report of our checking account and savings account as well as the total amount collected on monthly dues, which was also duly accepted.

Amy Rauschuber, Terry Gerik, and Vikki Nors were among our visitors.

Unfinished business discussed and acted upon was selection of the member of the month. Tammy WWenborg was chosen for the month of July.

Old business related to Camp, YAD, and Royalty.

New business pertained to our upcoming swimming party, social and meeting scheduled for August 3rd at West Playdium. You may swim from 10 a.m. until most of us arrive after work with our mothers. A meeting will be held at 6 p.m. The club voted to pay for the members' admission or admittance.

Another item discussed and voted on was to hold a fish pond booth at Czech Day in West on July 24th.

Our youth leader will be in charge of purchasing items and overseeing that youth members participate in this project.

LODGE NO. 54, WEST Dear Members, Everyone in our youth club is still talking about the exciting day at YAD, June 26th, at Linden Hall. There were a lot of boys and girls from far away places who entered their talent, some had entries in several categories.

After we were allowed to view displayed crafts, I took a goad look at the first place entries. The judges made a fine selection in judging these entries to advance to state.

From our lodge the following members placed at YAD: Individual Talent, ages 10-12 — Chris Bajer, 2nd Pictorial Arts, 10-12 — Edwin Sefcik, 2nd Handicraft, 13-14 — Jimmy Zahirniak, 3rd Home Arts, 15-17 — Darlene Za-

Our mother lodge sponsored an SPJST girls' softball team this year and they won 2nd place. Congratulations! A trophy will be given to them and will be placed on display at Lodge 54.

Another girls' team composed of over half of our club members, is the Kotch Funeral Home team of West, and they will be participating in the district finals some time during the week of the District III Camp. Congratulations to them again.

LODGE NO 9, SNOOK Dear Readers, We had loads of fun at our family swim party held June 30th.

We enjoyed having all the parents who came out and joined in the ducking games.

Our monthly meeting was very well attended. We welcome Donnie Hejl as a new member.

We started a two-month money-raising project, getting donations for •a 50-gallon-drum-type barbecue pit that was donated and built by Raymond H. Kovar's Blacksmith and Welding Shop. We certainly do thank him for this and do appreciate it.

At our meeting we also discussed our Country Store to be held on August 28th, 1977, along with the Snook Firemen's Barbecue.

Our swim party was scheduled for July 17th, at Bee Creek Swim Pool.

LODGE NO. 47, SEATON Dear Members and Friends, Our regular monthly meeting was held July 5th. Alison Stefka led us in the pledge of allegiance and club motto.

Secretary Ellen Lucko read the register and minutes of the last meeting.

Visitors were Shelia Harris and Sarah Wilson. We were glad to have you visit us and hope to see you again in the future.

Treasurer Elaine Zavodny gave her report and reminded everyone to pay their dues for this year.

I must remind everyone to keep selling tickets for our annual picnic for July 24th. There is a cash prize for the youth members who sells the most tickets.

Door prizes were won by Rex May and Karen Stefka.

YAD was held at Lodge 80 in Holland on July 10th. There were not many,entries from our lodge but we didn't do too bad. Katherine Morris was our queen and she received lst runner-up. Katherine also received a first place in Science and Education for a beautiful insect collection. Our poster came in second, which is very good.

Thanks to Elaine Zavodny for a terrific job. I received a first in Home Arts and a first in Hobby Kits. Our youth club came in second in the points system of District II. Congratulations to these winners, the high point juniors

Dear Members and Friends, Our District II YAD was held Sunday, July 10th, with a fine attendance.

The youth club won second place in the poster category. Our thanks to Elaine Zavodny for making the poster for us.

It was nice to see all the youth members from other lodges.

Our queen candidate, Katherine Morris, was the runner-up. Thank you, Katherine, from all of us for doing such a nice job. We know you did your best. Congratulations to Debbie Marburger, District II queen and best of luck at State Royalty.

Now, a big thank you should go out to DYC Frankie Klinkovsky and all the people who helped him make YAD such a successful one.

The Robstown Youth Club had a swim party and a watermelon party on July 9th. At 3 p.m. the members met at the Jackson Woods Swim Club, a nearby swimming pool. Everyone swam and had lots of fun. Then at 5 p.m. everyone went to Mrs. Hrncir's home where two big watermelons were cut and served. A lot of pictures were taken and everyone had a lot of fun. At 6 p.m. all of us went home.

Our social activities committee is planning a lot of fun things to do in the future. I hope all the members will be able to attend these functions.

Dear Members and Friends, Our meeting was held Thursday, July 7th at 7 p.m. The meeting was called to order by President Betty Wiesner. There were 11 members present.

We discussed having a swimming party from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 22nd at Taylor Murphy Pool. After the party we will all go to the Dairy Queen and each one will receive a dollar for spending money.

There were only 3 members who attended YAD. They were Betty Wiesner, Becky Swanson, and Ginger Wuensche. Our poster won first place which means it will go to the State YAD. I hope to see most of you youngsters at camp.

Dear Readers: District VI met at the Circle D Resort at Bastrop, for camp June 20-23, 1977. This was my first year at camp and it was a wonderful time for me. I especially liked the crafts we made.

I am looking forward to going again next year.

The pledge of allegiance was led by John John See, followed by the roll call and reading of the minutes by our secretary. The treasurer's report was also given.

Correspondence during the month included Father's Day cards mailed, 1 sympathy card, 1 getwell card, and think-of-you cards mailed to the elderly, and thankyou notes for assisting at YAD. Charity donations included: magazines to City Mission, American Lung Association and Indian reservation.

Old business consisted of: congratulations to all members on a job well done at YAD and a good turnout at family swim party. Also a reminder to pay dues before going to camp.

New business included: selling tickets for a barbecue pit that was donated to be given away at the annual Firemen's Barbecue Aug. 21st. There will be a prize for the youth club member who sells the most tickets. We need donations for the Country Store that the youth club will sponsor at the barbecue.

Activities for the month of July are: a swimming party July 17,

Dear Members and Friends, We just got back from District III YAD and we are very proud of everyone who went with us.

We are very proud of Kenneth Erwin who received first runnerup in the king contest.

Terri Lynn Bobalik received the Junior award in the Merit Points contest and Stephen Parrish in the senior division.

Our youth leader, Mrs. Annie Lou Flasowski received third place in the Youth Leader of the Year competition.

Jennifer Hodges won 2nd place in Foods and first in Science-Education. Terri Bobalik placed second in Pictorial Arts and Russell Bond placed third in Constructed Items.

In 6-9 division, Individual Talent, Sally Meyer scored in second place, and Mary Jo Bobalik placed first in the ages 15-17 division.

Sally and Susan Meyer received first place in Junior Group Talent.

In Senior Group Talent Mary Jo, Terri, and Jody Bobalik scored in third place.

Before closing we would like to thank Lodge 80 in Holland for having District II YAD at their lodge. We were glad to go. We saw so many familiar faces that we naven't seen since last year.
