FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK District III YAD -- The SPJST active youth club members who maintained a majority attendance of their club meetings, other activities and are in good standing in their respective lodges were eligible to compete at the District III Level — Youth Achievement Day -- held recently at Lodge Linden Hall in Elm Mott. Over 200 entries were registered by youngsters from Dallas, Elk, Ennis, Longview, Waco, and West, in ages ranging from 6 through 1'7 years in arts and crafts, individual and group talent, including a performance of the Beseda by a jun ior group. District III has been known to hold the largest YADs since the inception of these events In participation and attendance. Every year it increases regardless !of where it is held by a host lodge, also the enthusiasm and spirit of its youth leaders, assistants, parents, plus other interested parties carries on regardless of whether they win or lose. Cottonwood Lodge No. 6 Youth Club members captured the district's highest awards including several in arts and crafts and talent. We commend them as well as their leaders for their many achievements. With the large amount of entries in District III, this district is the only one that holds another date for its district royalty which
WELL, DID YOU? Did you help to pour the coffee, Or get the chairs in place? Or if a member seemed to have, An unfamiliar face, Did you try to make him feel at ease, And did you clasp his hand? Or did you just ignore him, And let him forlornly stand? Did you volunteer committee work, Or weren't you even there? Did you try to help to pull the load, Or did you duck your share? Or were you in absentia, Ensconced upon the shelf? We have no right to ask you, So why not ask yourself! is set for July 31st at Lodge No. 25, Ennis. We hope many of you plan to attend and support each candidate for queen or king from your lodge. The overall entire day's participation was one of true fraternalism; each one of you helped a youngster achieve something worthwhile for a long period. In fact, to some of you one year may seem a long time, but, when looking from the perspective angle of it time passes by rapidly. Now the first place winners will have another step to look forward to and challenge members in their category from 6 other districts at State Youth Achievement Day, Sunday, September 25, at Temple
High School, and, the day before, State Royalty is scheduled for Saturday, September 24th, at Lodge 18, in Elgin. Lodge 86 members who hosted District III YAD are to be commended for their endeavor and responsibility in carrying out the load of a large task such as the day that was witnessed by a very good attendance. The members were very gracious hosts to the YAD. * * July 4th, 1977 will be history when you read these lines. We sincerely hope tnat this finds you in good, if not better, health than before. The NSC predicted that several hundred people would meet their death on. this 4th of July weekend. Let us hope that they are wrong. Indeed, it seems to be as Will Rogers used to say: "We kill more Americans celebrating our independence on July 4th, than we lost in winning it!" We would much rather have our Vestnik in possession of a reader than a statistic. * * Sunday, June 19th, in the aftermxm, your editor traveled to Waco to the St. Joseph's recreation building to visit with a 75year-old visitor from Czechoslovakia, Mr. Rajmund Polansky. He bas 8 nieces: Martha, Lillian, Lucille, Helen, Eleanore, Evelyn, Anna Marie and Jo Ann, and 3 nephews: Raymond, Walter and Sam,
