FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Saturday, March 5th we had made plans to attend the performance of the Moravian Folk Ensemble BRCvLN in the Houston Music Hall and then the District V sales representatives째 banquet at Lodge No 81, Needville, Sunday, March 6th, however, as the saying goes: plans are made to be changed and we did not get to attend either. We thought we would attend the one in Dallas Tuesday, March 8th and that also had to be rearranged. It is our loss because our past publisher, Brother Jos. F. Holasek, and Mrs. Holasek, attended and both said they enjoyed it very much. It was at the McFarlin Auditorium on the SMU College Campus and they related that the faculty and students gave the troupe a standing ovation and called for encores a number of times. It seems that cultural exchanges and sports events among nations of our Mother Earth do much to further the cause of peace on this planet of ours. It certainly is better than military confrontation and/or unstatesmanlike diplomacy, statements and standoffs. It is well to remember how well some of our troupes of artists were received and acclaimed in all of Europe including Moscow, and all over the world. * * So that we would carry out a promise of long standing, Sunday afternoon we attended the Lodge
TABLE OF EXCUSES That's the way we've always done it. I didn't know you were in a hurry for it. That's not in my department. No one told me to go ahead. I'm waiting for an OIL. How did I know this was different? That's his job -- not mine! Wait 'til the boss comes and ask him. I forgot. I didn't think it was important. I'm too busy to get to it! I thought I told you. I wasn't hired to do that!
No. 6, Cottonwood meeting and the youths' kite-flying contest. It was a nice afternoon and the meeting was short and efficiently conducted. Then we all gathered outside for the contest. It brought back memories to this writer of boyhood on the farm in Liberty County, Texas, especially when one little tike didn't hold the string tight enough and kite, tail, and string all went bye, bye, to parts unknown. It is when a person attends these local lodge and district affairs, sees them conduct their meetings, make their reports and then have a fellowship and social gathering plus youth activities that brings about the realization that we are
just one big family. If we start losing that one-for-all and all-forone fraternal feeling, our Society will begin to lose its stature, ground and respect. All in all it was a very enjoyably spent afternoon, especially, since they are only about 4 miles distant and we had promised them we would attend when able. Of course, Lodge No. 6 was one of the charter lodges of our SPJST. * * The District V meeting is to be held this Sunday, March 20th at Lodge No. 81, Needville and the District VII meeting at Lodge No. 107, Floresville, was held Sunday, March 13th. The Bulletin Board of the district meetings is on page 3 of this issue. * * Speaking of District V, since they had the misfortune of losing their district director, Brother Alfred Hilsher, before he could begin his term of 4 years and has, following his death, been replaced by Director Louis Hanus, the thought has occurred to your editor that it would be logical for all the delegates of District V to attend that meeting and elect a substitute at this time. In this way, District V would be assured of having, a substitute director if the need arose in case the director could not attend the meetings, duties, etc., due to sickness, etc., and would be represented at the Supreme Lodge meet-
