FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK In this w of January 9-16 there is little time for doing too much ease but doing editorial work and trying to attend the January, 1977, meeting of the Supreme Lodge as much as possible which is being held January 11, 12, and 13, and then the Publication Committee meeting Saturday, January 15th. Every week it seems that the deadline for publication arrives sooner than the week before. After attending the SL meeting Wednesday afternoon and Thursday all day, these lines are being written so that they can be in print Friday. There is not much time to go into detail of the various things brought up during the course of the meeting and the deliberations therein. There were two new directors preSent, namely: Brothers Louis Hanus, District V and Bob Bayer, District VII plus, our new Financial Secretary, Jerry Mikulas, Jr., who replaced Brother Ben Zabcik, our retiring financial secretary. Brother Ben displayed a nice wrist watch given to him as a gift at a banquet Wednesday night in his and his wife's honor by the SL as he related to me. Yours truly can only add: Happy and healthy days ahead, Brother Ben and Sister Regina! Don't do too much fishing! * * The weather has been anything but nice recently, however, let us hope that it will be getting better

HAPPINESS .. . Who are the happiest people on earth? A craftsman or artist whistling over a job well done. A little child building air castles. A mother after a busy day, bathing her baby. A doctor who has finished a difficult and dangerous operation, and saved a human life. as time goes on. We will be informing you more after this rather hectic week. * * The New Year is made for you — When you hang up that 1977 calendar this month, don't treat it lightly. Spend a moment affirming all the wonderful things the new year has in store for you. "What wonderful things?" you may ask. "My life is full of problems!" Of course, you have your problems, everyone does, at one time or another, but if you regard your problems as a challenge rather than a deterrent, the new year will be terrifically different for you. Have a goal, not a fuzzy one, but a sharp, clearly defined one. Hold it in conscious mind until it sinks into the unconscious, and when it gets into the unconscious, you have it, for it is you. Remember what you think in the year ahead will determine precisely what you are and the kind of world

you live in. How you think determines what you become. You can transform yourself and your life by renewing your thoughts. If you are pessimistic about the new year, don't be. Change your thoughts, begin thinking hopefully and look for opportunities in every difficulty instead of difficulty in every opportunity. How you look at a problem makes all the difference. Your editor is reminded of a line from a poem which goes like this: "Two men look out the same window; one sees mud and the other sees stars." It is an interesting phenomenon how two peCtple view the same situation so differently, according to how they think. Have you ever thought about why some people say a day is partly sunny and others, commenting on the same day, will say it is partly cloudy? It is the optimist who remernbers the sunshine while the pessimist can only remember the dark clouds. Or if a glass of water is half full, the optimist will think of it that way. But the pessimist will say, "It's half empty." * * If someone were to pay you ten cents for every kind word you ever spoke about people, asks "Word and Way," and collect five cents for every unkind word, would you be rich or poor? * Cleverness is serviceable for everything, sufficient for nothing.
