Wouldn't It be nice if we could ItItTe Abe Christmas season every dAy 91 the year! * * Yes, you can tell Christmas is near! Everywhere you turn there are family gatherings, lodge gatherings and various affairs being planned. People, even in this sometimes bleak and dreary world, manage to be able to adopt to a somewhat gayer mood and say a cheerful word with a friendly, smile.

Of course, here in West, which I love to refer to as "The Friendly City of West," a smile is not too much of a problem to see. It seems as though in this Central Texas area people are always in a more earthly type of life. They all have problems, yes, as all other people do, however, they do not seem to insist on imposing them on their fellow human beings. Our family has only the nicest things we could say about this community. From the standpoint of living, a home, and friends, we could not ask to find a better smaller city to live in. Our two sons have found so many good friends that, frankly, it is about as good a Christmas present all the year through as any parent could ask for. * * Last Sunday, December 12th, was the annual meeting of Lodge Jaromir No. 54 in West. The officers and committees had planned a 'Christmas party after the meeting with the lodge furnishing a wonderful meal. There was a Christmas tree, Santa Claus and a wonderful fellowship with the tastily prepared meal after the meeting. In the eight years we have lived in West, this was the largest gathering of members we have witnessed; about 220 in all including about 12 guests from our fellow Lodge No.

So, now, what's your complaint?

Row familiar all of us are with this phrase — the first line of the poem, "A Visit From et.

Nicholas." Yet, how many of us know the author's name? Surely it is safe to say that very few of us do, yet this man can be truthfully described as a little-known American author. He wrote articles which had limited appeal. He married a beautiful and talented girl and to this union was added six children.

On a Christmas Eve night he sentimentally wrote a poem for his children and read it to them by the fireplace, then, putting the poem away, he forgot about it. A year passed and a young woman Visiting in the home saw the poem and asked permission to copy it; then sent it to a newspaper editor who printed It. Later, the author's name was made public. His name: Dr. Clement Clark Moore; a man Who lived to the age of 84 years and who wrote a poem that perhaps will live, forever. * * Worry is a disease. It leaves lines on your faze and marks on your mind which time will never eradicate.

NEWSBRIEFS Honorary President Edward L. Marek is a patient in Scott & White Hospital in Temple. He checked in on Monday, Decem 13th. He Is in Room 279 South. * * The float prepared and entered by the Youth Club of Lodge 74, Lovelady, captured Overall" award honors in the Houston County Christnias parade in downtown Crockett on turday, December 4th. Mrs. Anna Lou Flasowski is the youth 14 ser and Stephen Parrish is president of the youth club. —NAM * Charley Zave- , Sr., 76, wellknown long-time Hallettsville barber passed away in Ftenger Memorial Hospital in that city on December 7th after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held from.

Sacred Heart Church in Hallettsvine on December 8th with interment in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Brother Zavesky was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 4, Hallettsville. —NAM. * * Dr. Rudolph E. Maresh, 84, died Tuesday, December 14th. Services were held Thursday in Houston at 10:30 a.m. in Settegast-Kopf Chapel with Rev. Charles Wyatt Brown officiating. Graveside services and pallbearers were under the auspices of Gray Lodge No. 329 AF&AM members of Harris County Medical Society. Brother Maresh was a longtime member of Lodge No. Houston, and founder of Liberty Savings Assn. * * Mrs. Frances Jane Matus, 73, of West died Sunday afternoon, De-. cenaber 12th in a Waco hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West, with Rev. George Doskocil officiating.

Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. Sister Matus was a member of Lodge Jarorair No. 54, West.

Dear Members: President Ernest Zahirniak called the monthly meeting to order at 2 p.m. December 12th. Several youth club members led the members in the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. Flag.

After extending a welcome to the large attendance, the chairman then called on Brother Frank Cocek to read the minutes of the last meeting. The secretary's minutes were approved as read.

Members on the sick list are Sister Rosie Cocek, wife of our secretary, who is in a Dallas hospital; Brother Emil Popp, a long-time member, is in West Community Hospital Room 107-A; and Sister Margaret Shieldes of Lubbock is at home now recuperating from surgery. A speedy recovery is wished to all of them.

Another favorable report was given by Financial Secretary Robert Wright. Correspondence consisted of Season's Greetings from the Supreme Lodge and Editor of the Vestnik Rudy Sefeik and his family. Premium refund checks were handed out to the attending recipients.

A conversion policy was issued and read. Darlene Zahimiak is now in the adult department.

The president then gave a miscellaneous report on the business matter of our lodge building: an additional storage space was added to the refreshment room section, several new tables and chairs were purchased which was needed, and the foyer (main entrance) was nicely paneled. He also thanked those who helped in any way with the ham-sausage meal, which included all the trimmings, for the Christmas party. Then he wished everyone happy holidays!

A sympathy card was sent to Mary Duran, who lost her brother. Also losing a brother who lived in Buckholts was Robert Ruzicka. However, he and his wife, Minnie, have other news to make them happy.

Their daughter Gladys, along with her husband, Lonnie, an Army career man, and family are moving back to Texas and Fort Hood from Alabama. What a nice Christmas present for them.

Not so fortunate is Bernie Kratky, Jr., who will now be stationed in Korea for 18 months, leaving his wife and child here.

Congratulations to Jon Durham, a former youth club member who made all-district, all-area, and all-Tarrant County teams in football. He is a senior at Richland High School and plays split end on their team. We have so many fine young people among us it would be wonderful to see more of them at the meetings and activities, learning to step in and take the places of those whose age and health limit their activities. Perhaps the new year will see an increase along these lines.

It is our sincere wish that the coming year will bring prosperity and happiness to everyone and, on Christmas Day, may we all be aware of the wonderful blessings we now possess and may God bestow upon you countless others.

We are glad to report that Sister Agnes Lesak is recuperating at home. Hurry and get well Sister Lesak because you are missed very much, also.

Sister Anna Svestka is home from the hospital and we wish you a speedy recovery.

The Cookbook Committee, Sisters Birdie Hi Sher and Evelyn Mikolas, were happy to give their final report on the books. Many thanks to these sisters. They have worked very hard for months and they did a marvelous job!

Sister Virginia Hale was appointed to buy a needy lady, Clara Spivery, gifts for Christmas. She needs warm gowns and personal articles which, the Birthday Club will supply her. Sister Hale reported that Clara Spivery was very thankful for her Thanksgiving basket of fruit and groceries.

Sister Ruth Duncan invited all the Birthday Club Sisters to the youth Christmas party, December 20th at Lodge ; this is great!

The meeting was called to order

by President Harold Bergmann, who also led the members in reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Then the members stood in a moment of silent tribute for our deceased Brother Ernie Marburger, who lost his life in an auto accident, and his beloved wife Kay was hospitalized with broken bones and other injuries. We wish her a speedy recovery and a heartfelt sympathy is extended to his dear family: wife Kay, and parents Brother and Sister Wilbert Marburger. May he rest in eternal peace.

President Bergmann appointed Michael Noak to substitute for our secretary who would be tardy due to other obligations. He read the minutes and they were accepted as read.

Lee Leonhardt gave the treasurer's report and was accepted as given.

Dorothy Oltmann gave our financial standing and also read the LODGE NO.

names of six transferees. These we proudly welcome into our lodge and hope they will be able to participate in our lodge meetings and activities. Our lodge does not only provide fraternal protection but encourages and stipulates various entertainments for our members and guests.

The president, in behalf of our members, extends a very Merry and Joyous Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year to those who were not fortunate to be present.

There being no other business the meeting adjourned.

Now, for the gala event. The scene was set in the midst of a glamorous Christmas tree, shared by our youth club. Along the side of the hall a huge table was filled with delicious turkey and dressing, with a great variety of delectable trimmings including other holiday goodies and refreshments.

This sumptuous holiday meal was enjoyed by a great number of members and guests, including our District V Sales Representative Sister Evelyn Mikeska, accompanied by her husband Brother Otto Mikeska, who also assisted and participated in various Christmas activities. During the meal the beautiful accordion music was enjoyed.

To continue the jolly old Christmas spirit, the majority enjoyed dancing throughout the remainder of the evening to the music of Norbert Strmiska until he played "Home Sweet Home." Then all de-

The Seaton Choral Club met Tuesday, December 7th at Seaton Star Hall at 6:30 p.m. to prepare the trim for the Authentic Czech Christmas Tree to be set up and decorated at the Temple Mall. The following were present: Johnie and Laverne Vanicek (Laverne was the chairman for the Mall performance and a very capable one), Bill and Lillian Kosarek, Emily Stuteville, Ruby Bolton, Leon and Vallie Zavodny, Frank and Lillian Mikulec, Frank and Eleonora Spanhel, Willie and Doris Provazek, Wallace and Elsie Jez, Clarence and Wanona Stile, Ralph and Cathy Milek, Pauline Kopecky, Lenora Mucha, Albina Mikeska, Mollie Havrland, Jerry and Dorothy Pechal, Linda Wilde, Robert and Mary Vasicek, Otto and Matilda Hanus, Laurin and Dorothy Gaines, Jimmy and Ca.ralou Allen, Bernie Gebeila, and Calvin Chervenka. After we have completed the trim we all got on the stage.

On stage we sang and practiced the songs we were going to sing on the Mall and did we have a great time with so many present! It is a real pleasure to sing those wonderful Christmas Carols that everyone loves so much both in Czech and English as well as several regular songs we love so well, After we got through rehearsing we had a short business meeting and discussion of what to wear. We also decided that we would not sing on December 21st (our regular rehearsal night), because there are so many things to do and attend to at this time of the year, so we will skip it until January.

Thursday, December 9th we all assembled at the Mall and trimmed kiwo authentic Czech Christmas trees, using regular wax candles, wrapped walnuts, apples, and beautiful cookies, a loaf of fresh bread, and a beautiful white lamb to make it complete and since we were furnished two trees we trimmed both of them and still had some material left over and did

they look nice!

Saturday, December 11th the program with dancing of the Beseda with the following performing: Johnny and Laverne Vanleek, Floyd and Emily Stuteville, Leon and Vallie Zavodny, Hulen and Doris Ross, Willie and Doris Provazek, Laurin and Dorothy Gaines, Robert and Mary Vasicek, and Wallace and Elsie Jez and they did an outstanding performance.

by Lodge 47 Youth Leader Sister Caralou Allen.

We sang several Christmas songs in both Czech and English and several popular songs which the audience seemed to appreciate very much.

At 4 p.m. the seda group repeated its performance and, at 5 p.m., the Choral Club repeated their performance to a happy audience and, all in all, it was proclaimed a great success.

The regular meeting of Lodge 184, Moulton, was held Wednesday, December 8th, at 7:30 p.m. with 48 members and 6 guests present.

President Ed Mikes opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance to the flag, followed by roll call which found all officers present.

Secretary Brother Frank Wagner read the minutes from the

previous meeting and they were approved as read.

The lodge is sorry to hear that Brother Andrew Urbish is on the sick list. We all wish him a speedy recovery.

A report was given by the building committee on the work that had been done to the lodge hall this past year. Also some discussions on what is needed to be done in the coming year.

LODGE NO. 176, HOUSTON NORTH W EST Lodge 176 Houston Northwest members attended a program December 12th for the senior citizens at Woodland Park with about 12 couples dressed in very pretty and colorful old-fashioned clothes and we danced to the beautiful music of Joe Young; just sorry the weather was so bad where more of the senior citizens could be out enjoying themselves with us.

We had a lovely afternoon on December 13th at the Lodge 176 Christmas party which was held at the VFW Hall in Addicks. Some of the members missed a very good time, lots of fun and a very delicious meal.

Our president, Brother Harry Schuhmann talked about leasing a building for our lodge and buying land hoping next year we will have our own lodge building for our Christmas party next year, and for meetings, etc.

I would like to apologize to our local lodge secretary-treasurer, Brother Milton Trammell, who is doing a good job, and we are very glad to have him. We are sorry we failed to mention him in the Vestnik as our secretary-treasurer at election time.

LODGE NO. 81, NEEDVILLE Dear Members and Friends: Our December meeting and Christmas party was held on the 12th, at 2 p.m. The day was dreary because it started raining right in the morning and kept on throughout the day. However, that didn't keep Santa from making appearance. Everyone was in a jolly mood, therefore, several Christmas carols were sung by all members present.

Santa arrived on time, and the children were happy when they heard the ringing of a bell announcing his coming. For their patience and for being nice, Santa gave each one a bag of fruit, candy and nuts.

After the pledge of allegiance to the flag was recited, Secretary Mary Werner read the minutes of our annual meeting which were accepted as read.

Reports were given by Financial Secretary Allene Zwahr and Treasurer Corlis Vallet.

A very encouraging report about the financial standing of our lodge, was given by Special Fund Treasurer Gilbert Walzel.

Three of our members were hospitalized since our last meeting.

Sister Rode Blinks stayed in the hospital 12 days with a bad foot, but is now at home and doing better. Brother Prilucik hurt his back and spent a few days in the hospital also, but he too, is back at the Autum Hill Rest Home in Richmond where he has been residing for the last few years. Both of these members would like for you to come to see them. Sister Fannie Hurta has been seriously ill and was confined in an intensive care unit for a week. She was scheduled for surgery at 9 a.m., December 13th. We pray the operation was successful and she will have a complete recovery.

Our annual chili supper is planned for February 15th, 1977.

Sister Emily Kolaja read a letter from Brother Ernest Huff of Dallas and also handed in the check he sent for the quilt he bought, to help us pay for our new lodge home. He writes that he has been a member of Lodge 81 for many, many years and always wanted to help out in some way. It was indeed thoughtful of him and we appreciate it very, very much. It was voted to send him a thankyou letter.

A big thank you goes to Sister Willie May Kujkendall and her helpers for taking care of the Christmas bags. I am sorry I did not find out who was responsible for the Christmas tree that looked so nice on the stage, so whoever it was, she, too, deserves thanks.

Refund checks were handed out and the door prize was won by Sister Benita Walzel who in turn gave it back to the lodge. Thank you, Sister WO -1.

Installation of officers and trustees to serve the lodge for 1977 preceded a very fine and most tasteful lunch, which was enjoyed by all present.

Before I close this letter I wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas and much health in the new year.

TO OUR EDITOR OF THE VESTNIK AND MEMBERS OF DISTRICT III: Our District III fall meeting was held at Lodge No. 25 in Ennis on October 31, 1976. The attendance was not as expected, although the weather was very good and there should have been a better than average turnout, but this was not so and has not been for a few years. For those of us who have turned out at these District III meetings for many years, it is not hard to understand why so many abstain. There are a few simple reasons which I will endeavor to explain.

Bac,k in the late 1950s when these District III meetings started and District III was organized and as the idea caught on many lodges participated. There were no rules or regulations only those setup by

the conventions as to who the officers should be and how often to hold meetings, the agenda was as the presiding officers set it up to observe Roberts' Rules of Order and I'll tell you there were some humorous sessions at times. May I state now that the intention of the district meetings was to have a lodge in a district to participate just to become acquainted and have a good time, these went on for several years with good meetings, everyone enjoyed visiting with members of other lodges plus a sumptuous meal and some enter tainment. About this time we considered writing up an agenda to follow in a district meeting in order to avoid repetition and a little less confusion. This was accepted; and followed by other districts.

The lodges in District III liked the idea of district meetings and followed up by competitive bidding for the next meeting and the YAD. No lodge worried about whether they made a profit or not, the attendance was huge and they felt that this was their show and to let other lodges know about their lodge hall and activities; all enjoyed this.

Later on here in District III we got together and wrote up a few rules and regulations although I do not remember whether these were approved by the Supreme Lodge or not. District III and some of the other districts followed the same. One specific rule was that: when the district officers met, the time and place was to be announced through the Vestnik or phone calls by the officers that a representative (either the president of a local lodge or the secretary be present). This worked very well for a few years, this added interest for the local lodges in that they were part of the organization and could inform their members what will come up at the next district meeting; this was a good idea, but as our attendance grew and many other items cropped up, sometimes our district meetings were too long, but we still had fun and enjoyed them and District III grew and was the envy of the state as to our participation in youth activities and many other functions. One, in particular: our district was the first to have a youth club organization at district level, of course this was scuttled . . . that it was not legal.

12 Now, it is! Then after we thought that all was in order for our district, then came the fiasco at Lodge 35, Elk. I was president and this was an election, of all district officers and rest home directors. The election of district officers was in order, the election for rest home director was separate, another member besides the incumbent was nominated and elected in a fair election by secret ballot. This election was deemed invalid because I failed to insert notification 30 days prior to the meeting that I did not mention that this election was also for director of the rest homes as per Supreme Lodge ByLaws. No one bothered to mention this prior to the meeting nor during the meeting, therefore, the final conclusion was at Lodge 68 whereas only delegates to the previous convention could vote and the incumbent was re-elected.

The result of this episode was the main turning point of attendance drop. Many asked why attend district meetings where they have no say or voting rights? the decline was noted in meetings for a couple of years and no one lodge would bid for the meeting site; no longer would representatives attend from local lodges at the district officers' meetings; this was the hardest blow of all, but what was unique was that all district officers representing the Supreme Lodge were invited.

Question: Who are the districts?

After the donney brook at Elk, at Lodge 6 and Lodge , we got together to write up rules and regulations and specifically inserted the 30-day notice prior to election.

But, in the meantime, at District III meetings, all we have been exposed to has been long speeches by no more did we hear from local lodges.

At the last District III meeting held at Lodge 25, in Ennis, I asked this question: "What are we to do about the, election of the rest homes director, who was supposed to have been elected at the fall meeting of 1975?" Why this happened I do not know. Surely the district officers have had the opportunity to read the rules and minutes. When I asked this question, the secretary did read the R&R and it so stated that a 30day notice must be given to District III members.

There was some discussion from the floor, but the PA system was out of order and most of the time the speaker was barely audible. I did not hear the discussion nor was it explained by the chairman, someone made a motion to let us today elect the director, and that was accepted. I then protested this because of the 30-day notice, but meanwhile someone nominated the incumbent and a request was made by the chair (which was not audible to all the audience), if there were any other nominations. There being none, the district director of rest homes serving as interim was elected.

I had already sugested that next spring would be the ideal time, but the vote had already been taken.

Now, I ask you, was not this a flagrant violation of our District III Rules and Regulations? If the election at Elk was against the R&Rs, why not this election? It is peculiar to me that in attendance were several members who always are willing and ready to explain how well they know all the R&Rs, but in this case none rose to even make a suggestion. Why didn't someone else come forward as they did after the election at Elk? where there were half a dozen or more protests to the SL on the legality of the election.

Now, the lodges in the district that would like to bid for the site cannot afford the same for YAD; you cannot plan on a large attendance. Now you have to be subsidized by the district; even the district officers are being reimbursed for expenses to the planning meetings to set up the agenda. In the past all of us did this same service without any remuneration.

I believe it is about time District III takes a good hard look at itself and goes back to some of the past methods to improve its image.

After what appears to me to be an out of order deal at Ennis on October 31, 1976, there will be even less interest, I am sure.

Houston, Texas December 13, 1976 Dear Members: My short letter in the Vestnik of 12-8-'76 calls attention to my rejected letter of November 15th, 1976; this short letter also appeared in the Czech section of our Vestnik with the editor's comment that the cancellation of my letter was on the ruling of the publication committee. But I would appreciate an answer WHY was this letter sent to the publication committee in the first place? (See editor's note below..--Editor.)

The letter in question concerned matters applying to our whole SPJST Order, which I feel, as a member, I had the right to express my view. I definitely know my letter was not destructive or harmful to the success of our SPJST while in the Vestnik of 12-8-'76 we see a letter, and also in the editorial, a matter which is the business of a certain lodge and does not concern anyone but the local lodge in question and the problem should be worked out by the involved persons on the local lodge level. Why should any local lodge's problems, difficulties and misunderstanding be aired out on the pages of our Vestnik? If there are such problems, these should be dealt with at home, unless no solution could be found; then, if desired by the local lodge, to turn to the Supreme Lodge for a solution. But, by no means should anyone take the privilege of spreading their grievance before the public with the help of our Vestnik. If I desire to reply on any matter printed in the Vestnik concerning the whole Order, then I have the right to refer to such, but printing business concerning a local lodge because such business does not suit a certain member then by common sense, it is wrong to print such a letter, which it seems to me, our editor cannot recognize the difference.

FOURTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF CZECH The fourth annual conference of students and teachers of the Czech language will be held again in 1977 on April 23rd at SPJST Lodge Praha No. 29, east of Taylor. These conferences have all been hosted and sponsored, and will be again next year, by the Czech Club at the University of Texas. Sheri Prasatik is Czech Club president.

Those carrying out their parts were: Josephine Kelner Mary (mother), Joseph Kelner — Joseph, Kenneth Valigara announced the coming of Christ, Anthony Kelner — innkeeper, Dwayne Schroeder, Marty Kelner, Kenneth and Anthony were shepherds, Patricia Kelner was an angel and played "Ring Out Wild Bells," "Twinkle Little Star," and "Jingle Bells," on her bells.

Special thanks to the good members who furnished refreshments after our program.

Dear Readers, Our SPJST Youth Club of Lodge 169 held their regular meeting December 3rd at 6:30 p.m. at the Girl Scout Hut. We drew names for exchanging gifts. We also practiced the Christmas program to be held at the adult lodge covered dish supper scheduled for December 5th. We then made Christmas gifts for our parents. Our other plans included a visit to the State School and to present a program at the school; going caroling that same evening was also planned.

Before the meeting, Santa Claus came and passed out candy to everyone. Then some of the members were In a play called "The Christmas ap e, ress." These are the people who were in it: Allis Krajca (engine); James Martinek (Raggedy Andy); Suzann Macalik (Raggedy Ann); Nancy Martinek (doll); Missy Macalik (toy); Janet Martinek (bear); Benny Troj acek (jack-in- the-box) ; Lydia ffrojacek (horse); Amy Mac,alik (truck); and Vicky Martinek (boat). After that the youth club sang Christmas carols. Then the lodge had a dinner. The youth leader presented the youth with a present.

Our meeting was then held. We decided that we will go to the nursing home next Sunday, December 19th. We also decided to go bowling on January 16th. Everyone is to meet at the hall at 2:15. The youth club gave Youth Leader Linda Trojacek and assistant youth leader a gift. The meeting was then adjourned.

LODGE NO. 54, WEST Dear Members, Our monthly youth club meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by Jimmy Zahirniak on December 15th.

The pledge of allegiance was led

by Laurie Zahirniak; Greg Hutyra was in charge of the SPJST motto.

We welcomed our visitors and some of the chaperones, Miss P. K. Zahirniak, Mrs. Shirley Pustejovsky and Mrs. Linda Gerik.

Our minutes of the last meeting were not read because we had a previous party planned to save time.

Treasurer's report was read and it was approved as given.

Mark Hutyra was selected as the "Member of the Month."

Our next meeting was set for January 12th at 7 p.m., which falls on the second Wednesday of the month in the new year; be there, and let's make 1977 welcome.

A large group of us were treated to a great Christmas party in Waco. We enjoyed the variety of pizzas, salad and refreshments.

Mrs. Maxine Sefcik, who announced at our last meeting that she will no longer be our leader, gave us a bi-centennial silver dollar for keepsake from the youth club and would like for us to keep attending the

RESOLUTION OF SYMPATHY

Sister Frances (Aunt Fannie) Sefeik, of 319 Sloan St., Taylor, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 1St, in the SP.J.S.T. Rest Home of Taylor at the age of 93. She was a long time member of Lodge IComensky, SPJST, of Granger.

She was born June 2nd, 1883, in Bell County and had been a resident of Taylor most of her life.

Surviving are five foster children, Mrs. John Merka and Mrs. Herbert Konze, both of Taylor; Mrs. Clarence Nygrin of Hutto; Miss Annie Roznovak of Jacenta, Texas; and Edward F. Roznovak of Pasadena; one sister, Mrs. Joe (Clara) Mikas of Taylor; and two brothers, John Roznovak of Taylor and Charles B. Romnovak of Pasadena.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m.

Friday, December 3rd. at the Taylor Brethren Church with the Rev. Dan Marek officiating. Burial was in the Taylor City Cemetery.

RESOLVED, by the members of Lodge Komensky, SPJST, in the premise represented by the undersigned members of a Special Committee, that condolences and sympathy be extended to the bereaved family of our departed sister.

who was killed in a car accident at Longview while visiting her daughter.

Sister Macik is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jeanette Drew of Longview and Mrs. Beverly Mancuso of Houston; and two grandchildren.

Sister Macik, and her husband, who preceded her in death 6 months ago, were married while both

were in service during World War II. Sister Macik was born in North Carolina and after the war, the couple made their home near Pleak, where they made themselves a part of the community. Sister Thelma was always a true and faithful servant of her church and supporter of our fraternal SPJST Society.

Funeral services were held November 30th at 3 p.m. at the Rosenberg Brethren Church, with Rev. Tommy Tailas officiating. Sisters Macik was laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, beside her husband.

Mass was held at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with burial in St. Ambrose Cemetery in Wall. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Her husband, Brother Otto Bubinek, died November 21st, 1976.

Sister Bubinek was born March 9th, 1888, in Czechoslovakia and had lived in Veribest 65 years. She was married to Otto Bubinek December 26, 1907 in Olfen.

Brother Olsak passed away November 24th, 1976, at the Clinic Hospital. He was born December 9th, 1894 in Williamson County and was married to Claine Kohutek on November 16th, 1920, in Rowena. His wife died in January, 1967. He then married Loree McDonald on April 16th, 1972, in Eldorado. A resident of San Angelo since 1925 and was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Leroy Olsak of Lamesa; and Clovis Olsak of San Angelo; a stepson, Glen McDonald of Eldorado; four sisters. Mrs. Mary Boll of Levelland, Mrs. Minnie Baca of Miles, Mrs. Louise Hoelscher of Rowena; two brothers, Frank Olsak of San Angelo and Charlie Olsak of Ballinger; three granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
