FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Saturday, October 16th we headed our auto south in the direction of the District VII fall meeting at Lodge No. 79, Corpus Christi, and traveled as far as was possible, conveniently, and then stopped for the night. It is a distance of about 335 miles from West and the meeting was the next day, Sunday October 17th. Next morning we set out to continue our trip, somewhat rested and, as the afternoon of the day before, we enjoyed the scenery, however, even at 55 miles per hour, it seemed to pass by too suddenly. We arrived at the lodge hall at 12:30 p.m., just as they were serving a delicious meal of turkey, sausage, dressing and all the trimmings. The minute we entered, there was Brother John Stasa and insisted that he buy our dinners, however, I excused myself, stating I was not hungry, but he would have it no other way than to buy my wife, Maxine, her plate. He is a true fraternalist in all respects and always works for the good and welfare of any organization he is a member of. The meeting was convened at 1:30 p.m. by District VII Vice President Viola, Cable.; President Pavliska had excused himself because the recent rains had delayed him in gathering his peanut crop and he was trying to catch up with his farm duties. We don't blame him, having been raised on a farm and knowing the farmers' prob-

Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more Men were deceivers ever, One foot in sea and one on slime, To one thing constant never. —Shakespeare o The fountains mingle with the river, And the rivers with the ocean; The winds of heaven mix for ever With a sweet emotion; Nothing in the world is single; All things, by a law divine, In one another's being mingle— Why not I with thine? -.-Shelley * * Doubt thou the stars are fire, Doubt that the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar; But never doubt I love. —Shakespeare lems with the weather and elements. The meeting progressed briskly and was not too long. We are sure that District VII Secretary Betty Juriea will have the minutes and particulars explaining the progress of the meeting. There was some discussion of District VII's status and progress which was encouraging and wellaccepted. Brothers Emil Matula and Dominic Netek from Lodge No. 133, San Antonio gave a preliminary report on the plans thus far for the forthcoming XeeTTIrd SPJST Con-
vention coming up in I e80. The proposed new building of Lodge No, 79, Corpus Christi was also mentioned, however, this of course is not a District VII affair. P 1.1 of the officers' reports were well A number of the members displayed their disappointment, that no officer from our Supreme Lodge was present at the meeting. One could tell from their remarks that they felt let down. There were statements that there was not another district meeting scheduled on that date and it seemed that about 3 or 4 officers attended their spring meeting before the convention. They are a proud group of fraternal workers and are enthusiastic about the prospects.for the district. They had a nice program presented by the youth. The pictures of the youth appear in this issue. One thing that seemed to be rather noticeable at this meeting was that, even though the youth program was held until after the meeting was adjourned, all of the people present came in to see it. Generally, people tend to leave after the district meetings, but not so in this case. After a very pleasant and enjoyable day, we began the long drive home and was it long! Our father used to say: "Everywhere is nice; home is best." That's what we muttered at I:30 a.m. Monday morning when we arrived in West.
