FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Saturday, Sept. 25, was a hurried trip to Lodge No. 177, Academy for our State Youth Achievement Day — Royalty — for 1976. We finished the composition of the Vestnik and yours truly arrived just as the program was about to begin. State Youth Director Dorothy Massey has already sent a good and concise report, however, we have held it up pending the arrival of the pictures of the event from the Supreme Lodge.

Sitting in the audience and takin, notes (both written and mental) one has to look back in retrospect and realize how well our youth have done their "homework."

The speeches and presentations of them were, once again, something worthwhile listening to. It seems that each year they are presented by our participants (or contestants) on a higher plane and with a higher degree of intellectual finesse and ability. In this especially politically, sensitive year of 1976 none of them contained any of the political overtones one may have expected; they were based on true, heartfelt patriotism and sincere thoughts about the history of our ,SPJST, depending on what the contestant's choice of subjects were.

The judges bad, as is usual, difficult assignments, yet, they seemed to do a sincere job of them.

What is always so pleasant to see is the intent interest of each contestant in each of the speeches

Political campaigns teach us that not all people who stretch the facts are fishermen or golfers. * * New hobby: Going to the supermarket and watching the employees mark up the prices. * In this age of inflation, the only thing free of charge is a rundown battery. * * A fanatic is one who doubles his effort after losing sight of his objective. * Overheard: "Things just aren't what they used to be, and one of them is me." presented and the wonderful and fraternal sportsmanship of all the participants after the final results are announced. * As a youth, yours truly grew up practically as neighbors with Bro. Jerry Trampota (now of the Seaton area) and there is a mutual respect always present when occasion arises, and we meet. Our parents knew each other very well.

It was therefore very pleasant to receive a letter a day or so ago from Brother and Sister Trampota's daughter, also our acquaintance, a student of Czech, a young lady who has attended the summer course of CczAth at Charles University at Prague, Czechoslovakia, and is at

A&M University. The contents of the letter make it more worthwhile to be printed. It reads: Dear Mr. Sefcik: Good news from Aggieland! The Czech class that I am teaching here on the A&M campus has over 50 students enrolled for the fall semester. Late registration is still being held so I do not know the sum total of students as of today. The class is a part of Free University and the enrollment consists of A&M students, faculty and staff and I might add that one student will be driving from Huntsville to attend the class.

I'll be sending more details as they are made available to me.

Stop tailgating the car ahead. It's time to stay further back now.

Make sure there is nothing in sight before you pass on the highway. Keep your mind on your driving. Look for possible accident hazards up ahead, on each side, and behind. Be courteous at all times.

You will be seeing much in the press, on TV and over the radio concerning the prevention of traffic accidents. Now is the time to get into training for the period of the year when accident rates go up and' up. A lot of the fatal accidents involve speed too fast. The rush of the coming holiday season shopping and social life, along with adverse weather conditions, are all contributing factors in fatal holiday accidents. Darkness means danger, and October days will begin to be appreciably shorter. Slow down for safety sake, for death and darkness are a steady twosome, and speed too fast for tricky and variable we,atber can take drivers on a "slay" ride. Think about it, brothers and sisters!

NEWSBRIEFS Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mikulas, Jr., (Jerry is the new financial secretary-elect of the SL) are the proud parents of a new baby boy who arrived Saturday, Sept. 25th. His name is Chad Wayne and he Joins a brother, Wade, and a sister, Donna. He weighed in at 9 lbs., 4 1/4 aza.

Grandparents are Mrs. Lillie Mikulas of Seaton and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lorenz of Temple. Both grandparents and parents and children are members of Lodge 47, Seaton. Congratulations to Jerry and Betty! —NAM. * * Mary Irene Burtis and Marguerite Burtis were graduated from East Texas University in Commerce, at the end of the summer session.

They received their Master of Science degrees. Mary is employed as a Speech and Hearing Pathologist in the Paris Ind. School District. Marguerite Burtis is similarly emplioyed with the Dallas Ind. School Dist. Mary and Marguerite are the daughters of Hilda and John Burtis of Buckholts, where all are members of Lodge No. 15.

2. Authorize Supreme Lodge, SPJST, to provide quarterly reimbursements of 25c per youth member to local youth clubs.

3. Authorize Supreme Lodge, SPJST to reimburse any standing committee for expenses in performance of their duties such as clerical, supplies, etc., between conventions.

4. That the normal retirement benefit formula be amended such that, in determining the normal retirement benefit for a participant, the benefit shall be calculated as though the participant earned the same salary as he earned in 1972 in 'all years of service prior to 1972. It is further provided that the maximum normal retirement benefit which may be earned by a participant will not exceed 50 per cent of his average salary during, the 5 years preceding his normal retirement date We further recommend: 1. Southern District, American Sokol: $1,000 annually — 4 years 2. Continuance: A $5,000, 10-year term life insurance certificate, to be given to the existing employees of the Supreme Lodge, and a new employee will have a 6-month waiting period before he or she becomes eligible for the $5,000 life insurance certificate with the cost for the existing employees and new employees to be split 50-50, one-half the cost of the certificate for the Supreme Lodge and one-half cost to the employee. If the employee elects not to participate, then the Supreme Lodge will not participate. If the employee is still employed by the Supreme Lodge at the end of the ten-year period the certificate will be automatically renewed and will be continually renewed until the employee retires. If the employee terminates, he or she will have the option to convert the term certificate to any class of permanenttype insurance without evidence of insurability. There will only be a 30-day grace period in which this conversion can be made.

3. Continuance Youth: The proposal of the Youth Committee report in regard to same allocation as approved for the camping fund in the 1964 convention to be continued, but be amended to read: The annual net gain from the investment of $350,000 be turned over to the youth for their activities with the understanding that this $350,000 is not to be part of a trust fund and that this $350,000 as such is not committed to youth activities, and that the 1980 convention has full control over the $350,000 as to whether it will continue to be used for youth purposes.

This net gain shall be used with strict adherence to the program as prescribed by the Youth Department, That the monthly benefits of retired President Edward L. 1Vlarek and retired Secretary R. A. Urbanovsky derived from the existing retirement plan be supplemented in an amount to bring the total to $250 per month, and that this be subject to review in the XXIII Convention.

Paul Sablatura Vlasta Jez * * RESOLUTION WHEREAS, on March 2, 1975, an incapacitating illness has continuously since that date hospitalized our friend and brother, ERNEST J. HANKA.

AND, WHEREAS, Brother Ernest J. Hanka served in the capacity of director of the Supreme Lodge, SPJST, from January 1, 1965, until January 1, 1976; and WHEREAS, Brother Hanka served as. the Steering Committee Chairman of Lodge No. 88 for the Mast SPJST Convention hosted in Houston in 1972; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the delegation at the XXIInd SPJST Convention in Waco, that Brother

Hanka be given recognition for his fraternal work and love for his fellowman; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the delegation assembled express to Brother Ernest J. Hanka, its sincere gratitude for his unselfish devotion to the cause of fraternalism and that his achievements and past services to the SPJST be properly noted in this Convention by the adoption of this resolution on this the 11th day of June, 1976. * * REPORT FROM THE PUBLICATION COMMI 1 I Eh March 1973 to March 1976 Mr. Chairman, Officers of the Supreme Lodge, Brother and Sister Delegates, and Friends: The seven-member Publication Committee was elected at the last convention. We met two times in 1973, three times in 1974, two times in 1975, and in March, 1976. The highlight of the PC was the formulation of a set of guidelines for the editor. The guidelines are a supplement to the present SPJST ByLaws. They were approved by our legal advisor.

The PC received and acted on six objectionable letters. We authorized SL officers to use the front page of the Christmas and New Year issues of the Vestnik for their needs. We approved moving the SL section from the middle of the Vestnik to page 3. The committee also recommended the reduction in size of the heading in the Czech section, and in our March 20th, 1976 meeting we recommended that the Vestnik be printed in tabloid form; reason being to save money by not stapling the pages.

The latter subject is to be voted on during this convention by the delegates. The publisher suggested to the PC that if the Vestnik was printed by the offset printing process, it would have a neater appearance at no extra cost. We agreed to have the Vestnik printed in offset print.

The Committee voted to discontinue the "Roman" in the Czech Section to conserve space. The editor has our approval to put good pictures on the front page of the Vestnik, when good pictures are available.

The Publication Committee made up Na forms and specifications from the recommendations of the SL officers and they were ap-

proved by our legal advisor. These bid forms and specifications were sent to 12 publishers and sealed bids were to be sent to the PC chairman, E. G. Mazanec, by June 10, 1976. These bids will be opened by the PC during the convention, 1976. We will review all bids and make our recommendations to the Convention delegates who will then decide and vote on who is to be our publisher of the Vestnik for the next four years.

The Publication Committee has enjoyed its work the last four years and feel we have accomplished much. In the beginning, there was some discussion over some editorials, but all, differences were settled harmoniously and the PC feels our editor has done a good job.

Since our guidelines have been adopted, we have had no further problems. Therefore, it is the recommendation of the present Publication Committee to have the incoming PC continue to use these guidelines.

We wish the SPJST continued growth and a meaningful and fruitful XXII Convention in Waco, June 14, 1976.

Respectfully submitted, David Huff Rudd and Wisdom Consulting Actuaries • REST HOMES REPORT Mr. Chairman, Delegates and Friends: It is indeed my pleasure to present to you this report on the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes. As you know, a brief history of the Rest Homes is included on the inside cover of the last issue of the Vestnik, or the convention issue. Therefore, I would like to report on the last four years and the changes that have taken place.

In 1970, when the Needville Rest Home was constructed, all safety features, required by State and Federal Governments were met.

However, 3Y2 years later, new regulations were issued, putting both rest homes out of compliance. To put it simply, the Rest Homes would be shud down if the new regulations were not met.

The most costly items were putting into the Homes: a sprinkle system, , a smoke detection system, widening the doorways and changing all doors to solid core. There were many other regulations that had to be met but the ones mentioned above were the most costly.

The total cost of the changes was over $130,000. Since we operate on a very low margin of profit, we had to apply to the Supreme Lodge for a loan of $60,000. The directors felt by postponing some minor repairs and delaying the purchase of some new equipment that over a twoyear period we could meet the obligation. We did meet the challenge but not without some change and that was to raise the rates.

Also, in the past four years, in order to comply with the law, we raised the minimum wage three times. The last time it was raised, it added over $30,000 a year to our operating budget, thereby bringing the cost of labor in 1975 to over $409,000.

As of the audit in Dec. 1975, the

total assets of both Rest Homes are well over one-half million dollars, $607,097 to be exact. The Rest Homes owe $400,100. We are current in paying the interest and principal.

As you can see, we have a large operating budget and to make certain that we are in control of our expenses, we have a certified public accountant who directs us to those areas of the budget that need to be watched more closely.

I have given you a brief report on the physical plants, but let's look at the reason why they were built to begin with. That is our guests.

The two Rest Homes have a capacity of 130 beds. These 130 beds have been full since the doors of the homes were opened. That means we have a waiting list. So make certain that if someone wants to stay, that they must plan ahead.

We feel that we operate the best rest homes in the state. That our administrators and employees do not strive to just get by, but to go beyond. To put themselves into making the best conditions for our guests.

When you compare the SPJST Rest Homes with others, we think you will come to the same conclusions.

A few words about the directors. One person is elected from each district and each serve 'a 3year term without salary. However, mileage is paid for each meeting.

REPORTS DISTRICT I SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT FOR AUGUST 1976 The insurance sales for the month of August were outstanding in District I. Insurance was sold to 24 members in the amount of $344,000. This makes me proud of the sales representatives in our district and it proves that District I is not dormant by any means.

I want to congratulate Brother Willie Gloyna, Lodge 17, for selling a policy in the amount of $250,000.

This was a real boost to our sales and hopefully Brother Gloyna will write more members like this. I also want to compliment Sister Molly Ewell, Lodge 169, for her 104 continuous months in the application-d-Month Club. This is an exceptional accomplishment.

LODGE NO. 173, GALVESTON Dear Members and Friends: The September meeting was called to order by First Vice President John Valusek. The pledge of allegiance to the flag was recited by the membership. The minutes for the July and August meetings were read. There being no corrections or additions, the minutes were approved as read.

Sister Bessie Findley, financial secretary, gave her reports for July and August. No reports were received from the Building Committee or the Youth Club.

Sister Audrey Kaluza, chairman of the Entertainment Committee, expressed her sincere thanks to everyone who helped prepare the Mexican food for the dinner we had at our last meeting. Also, she thanked the ladies of the lodge for the delicious cakes and pies the'y baked. Sister Kaluza also expressed her regrets to Brother Fee, who couldn't be there, that she missed his accordion music. (Brother Valusek also thanked the membership for the good turnout that we had.

It has been reported that Brother Odinot is ill due to a virus, and Sister Evelyn Sefcik is in the hospital recuperating from surgery.

Also, in our last letter to the Vestnik we reported that. Randy Kivch was in the hospital. Well, it's been reported that he is still thete awaiting surgery and will need blood. Anyone in our area who is willing to donate blood can go to the blood bank at John Sealy Hospital and give blood in the name of Randolph Kivch, Room 560 Main Building. To all who are sick we wish a speedy recovery.

The premium refund checks were distributed to the members present.

The next meeting is set for October 17th, and there will be a surprise for all the children attending.

Dear Members and Friends: Our last regular meeting was held Sunday, August 15th at the home of Brother and Sister Dan Surovik. Attendance was good in spite of the rainy weather.

A report was given on the cost of our July barbecue.

Next we had a discussion on having a chicken stew in November but after some other activities were brought up such as reunions, we decided to postpone it until February.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 17th which is the third Sunday in October, at the Vavra home.

It was reported that Brother George Factor and Sister Annie Jones passed away since the pre vious meeting. The members stood in respect of our members who had departed.

The minutes of the meeting for the month of August were read and approved by the membership.

Correspondence was acknowledged from Brother Hugo Kocian of Lodge No. 178, Charles W. McBrayer of the DePelchin Faith Home, and the families of Doris Alford, K. Joe Bushek and Await jaster.

President Hanus urged the membership to attend Czech Day on Oct. 24th and to also wear Czech costumes. Much preparation is being made for the day.

At that time President Hanus announced that the membership needed to decide at the meeting tonight whether or not they desire a nominating committee. A motion was made and seconded to dispense with a nominating committee and permit nominations from the floor. The motion passed.

Czech Day is coming up Oct. 24th and a lot of fun things are planned for that day. Weather permitting, the pool will be open from 12 noon until 6 p.m. There will be music in the Gazebo and in the Ballroom, too. Be sure and set this day aside and plan to be there for the festivities.

The youth will hold their monthly meeting Sunday, Oct. 10th, at 3 p.m. Parents are welcome as always. The regular monthly meeting for the lodge will be Monday, Oct. Ilth. Refreshments will be served afterward and at the last meeting the board had to pay for the goodies because we had no donors. Let's give the board a chance to recoup their gift this next time.

The Birthday Club Sisters will hold their luncheon and card party Wednesday, Oct. 6th. They still have a few Bi-Centennial Cookbooks left but you had better get one quick because there aren't that many left.

The Entertainment Committee will be bringing you the Glenn Miller Orchestra on Dee. 11th.

Tickets will be $7.50 per person and no reservations will be taken prior to Oct. 29th. If you are unable to come in person to make your reservations, be sure to mail your check so it will arrive on Oct. 29.

THE PAVELKA REUNION, 19'16

By Helen Paveika Descendants of Joseph and Marie Pavelka met recently at Elk SPJST for the 22nd annual Pavelka reunion. The Elk SPJST building, east of Waco, is near the Pavelka homestead. There were 'about 140 family members and guests registered and more came later in the day.

Before dinner, the invocation was given by Billy F. Pavelka, the presiding chairman. Each family brought food and a delicious dinner and supper was enjoyed by all.

Of the 10 children of Joseph and Marie Pavelka, only 5 survive: Jim Pavelka of Elk, Willie Pavelka of West, Minnie (Mrs. Adolph) Kubitza of Axtell, Mary (Mrs. Charlie) Kubitza of Waco, and Ed Pavelka of Terrell. Only Minnie Kubitza was not able to be present because of illness.

The business meeting was held in the afternoon. A moment of silence was observed in memory of the late Adolph Kubitza and Clarence Peevy, both had been married to Pavelkas. Prizes of $2 bills went to: youngest member present, 3-weekold Jason Troy Brewer, the greatgrandson of Minnie (Pavelka) Kubitza; to Dorothy (Pavelka) Dahlgren of Redlands, Calif., who traveled the farthest distance; Willie and Vlasta Pavelka of West, the couple married •the longest (57 years; Jimmie and Dale (Pavelka) Bordovsky, married the shortest time (2 wee'--` • and Ed and Wilma Pavelka of TerreU who were celebrating their 50th wedding anni-

18 versary with all their relatives Recognized as the oldest member present was Jim Pavelka, age 84 who is able to get around well and can still dance; although not as much as in the past; he says he has had to slow down.

A report was made on the progress of the geneological record.

Much work has been accomplished and hopefully, next year we will see some results. There are several relatives listed but not enough information is known and anyone having information on their whereabouts would be appreciated. A coat of arms of. the Pavelka family was made by Roger Allen of Arlington, and it was displayed.

By a unanimous vote the next reunion will be held in Elk SPJST September 4, 1977. The officers elected to serve for 1977 are: Chairman Fred Kubitza, Jr., of Waco; Secretary Nancy Kubitza of Waco; Treasurer Eugene Pavelka of Mart. Re-appointed to serve on the dance committee were: Charlie Pavelka of Mart, Bill Pavelka of Robstown, and Tony Pavelka of Elk. Appointed to serve on the publicity committee were Helen Pavelka of Robstown and Tony Pavelka.

Family members and guests attending were from Waco, West, Mart, Temple, Terrell, Elk, New Braunfels, Arlington, Austin, Abbott, Seguin, McQueeny, Robstown, 'Alice Corpus Christi,' Redlands, Calif., and a few other places.

The Pavelka family' is well represented in the SPJST, holding membership in lodges over the state. One member, Robert Pavelka, is currently serving as president of Lodge No. 68 and was on the 1976 Convention Committee'and others are also active in SPJST activities. Two are sales representatives, Ruby Pavelka of Lodge 36, Elk, and Helen Pavelka of Lodge 117, Robstown.

The day-long activities will begin with the Czech Day program and will conclude with a torch-light parade within the Fair Grounds. Featured groups will include the Dallas Czechoslovak Concert Orchestra, special numbers by the American Sokol Organization, Southern District Units; Moravian Maypole danced by the youth; Czech choral music; polka music; and ballet and Czech folk dances.

It is fitting that the citizens of Texas recognize the contributions made to our society by the Texans of Czech descent of our State.

VESTNIK Sokol Oganization, Southern District Units; Moravian Maypole danced by the youth; Czech choral music by a statewide choir directed by Nick Morris, the Moravian Beseda danced by circles from throughout the state, and a special salute to the United States, "Happy Birthday, America" by various participating groups.

At noon, the activities will move to the Band Shell where food and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

The afternoon program will feature the accordions of Jerry Petter and Johnny Dobucek; the polka music of Bill Kucera's Czech-Mates from Mesquite; the KJT Youth Polka Band, and a parade of authentic Czech-Moravian Kroj narrated by Miss Agnes Houdek.

Throughout the day, Czech par ticipants shall be performing for the fair visitors at various locations. At noon, a program will be presented at the Women's Building with polka music, the Liska Family Singers; a ballet featuring the music of Smetana; the Maypole dance by the Abbott KJT-KJZT; the Beseda, and a parade of Kroj.

The Big Tex stage program will consist of a Sokol Exhibition and the dancing of Czech folk-dances and the Moravian Beseda.

In front of the Hall of State at 3 p.m., special numbers will be presented by the American Sokol.

The day will conclude with a repeat performance at the Big Tex stage at 7 p.m. and participation in the torch-light parade within the Fair Grounds.

The American-Czech Culture Society extends an invitation to all and hope you will come and enjoy the 36th celebration of American-Czechoslovak Day in its salute to the United States on its 200th anniversary.

GRADUATES FROM AIR FORCE ACADEMY — United States Vice President Nelson Rockefeller congratulates David E. Hrneir of Robstown upon his graduation at the Air Force Academy, June 2nd, 1976.

David E. Hmeir, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hrneir, and a member of Lodge 117, Robstown, has begun his medical training at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, following his graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy on June 2nd. As recipient of the Medical School Scholarship, he will attend school in Dallas four years, training at Parkland Hospital. His addi tional training will be in the Air Force, after Which he will hold the rank of captain.

He is shown in the picture being congratulated by United States Vice President Nelson Rockefeller after

receiving his diploma. A party of about 25 family members and area friends attended the graduation exercises held in, Falcon Stadium at the Academy, near Colorado Springs, Colo., as well as the activities connected with Graduation Week.

David graduated as valedictorian from Robstown High School in 1972 and was graduated from the Academy in the 13th slot in his class of 919 cadets. This selection was based on academic and military achievements while at the Academy.

From The Lodge Youth Leaders LODGE NO. 50, EL CAMPO SPJST Lodge 50 Youth Club met for their first meeting in July. We had the election of officers. District VI Youth Counselor Elsie Brdecka spoke to us about the youth and the good qualities the youth can bring out.

We have nine members and one social member. We meet once a month for our meetings, and serve refreshments after each meeting.

Some months we hold birthday parties whenever our youth have birthdays.

The youth planned to perform at the District VI meeting in Talton, Oct. 3rd.

—SPJST-LODGE NO. 4, IIALLETTSVILLE Dear Readers, Sunday, Sept. 19th, our youth club held its regular monthly meeting. At our youth meeting we discussed the State YAD and our success at the annual Family Day. It was decided to give to the National Federation of the Blind for our monthly charity. Plans were made for the fall district meeting.

Attending the meeting as guests were Jeanette Cejka and Eugene Mikush.

Our youth club was very honored to have a guest speaker, Mrs. Lucille Werner. She gave us a very interesting and inspiring talk.

After the meeting, refreshments and lunch were served.

Door prize winners were: adult, Mrs. Charles Mikush; youth, Tommy Holy. The August birthday cake was won by Mrs. Celia Dornak, and the September cake by Arlene Zak.

LODGE NO. 30, TAITON Dear Readers, The Talton SPJST Youth Club held their monthly meeting and yearly outing Sunday, Aug. 23rd, at the Wharton Health Club in Wharton.

The meeting was called to order

by President Diane Dluhos. Pledge of allegiance was led by DeAnne Krpec and the prayer was read by Clare Dorotik.

There were 22 adults and 28 members present.

There was no roll call or minutes read because of our secretary's absence.

Our business was about our winnings at District YAD and all 1st place winners participating at State YAD. We had a supper of chicken, side dishes, and tea.

Vice President Ray Mangrum conducted the meeting. We read the minutes of the last meeting, had a treasurer's report, pledge of allegiance to the flag, and a prayer.

We also discussed old and new business. We then skated for two hours and had a good time.

Our meeting next month will be held at Gloria Ebner's home and it will be a Halloween party. Different committees were named to plan games, refreshments, and to plan the Fun House. Everyone is asked to come in costume and members may invite guests.

very much. Our 13-17 group talent won 1st place, and Jerome Dorotik won 1st place in craft. Our youth club received the honor as being among the top ten youth clubs of the year.

Under old business we discussed having a Halloween party. The party will be held at 4 p.m., Oct. 10th, at Mrs. Melvin Marek's home.

For new business we discussed the spring meeting. The meeting was then adjourned.

We discussed our old and new business. Then our craft for the month was judged. Afterward the meeting adjourned.

We had birthday cupcakes for the ones who had birthdays during the month of September. Then everyone was ready to go skating.

We all had a lot of fun. We came home with some sore bones, but we are ready to go back some time soon. Thanks go out to Youth Leader Nellene Spacek, and the other chaperones who went along.

Wednesda October 6 1976 EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the undersigned Resolution Committee, in behalf of the entire membership of SPJST Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed lodge sister, JENNIE GAJDOSIK, age 94, of West, who passed away in a West hospital on Thursday, August 26, 1976.

Sister Gajdosik was born in Czechoslovakia and had lived in the West area since 1907. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West and the Altar-Rosary Society of that church. She also was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 6 of Cottonwood. Her husband, Charlie, died in 1958.

Rosary was recited Friday, Aug, 27th, at 7:30 p.m. at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28th, at St. Mary's Cemetery in West.

Brother Nedbalek resident of Crosby for 65 years was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nolia Nedbalek; one son, Frank G. Nedbalek, both of Crosby; two stepsons, Manuel Buckalew of Houston, and John A. Buckalew of Baytown; five step-daughters, Vivian Wavra of Crosby, Viola Lunsford of Rye, Tommy Maxine Casey of Anahuac, Doris Mae Taylor of Edna, and Carmen Nedbalek of Crosby. Five grandchildren, 12 step-grandehildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Services for Brother Nedbalek were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 25th at the Crosby Brethren Church, with Rev. Eugene Kotrla officiating. Burial was held at the SPJST Cemetery in Crosby, under the direction of Earthman Funeral Home of Highlands.

Brother Jaska was born in Moravia, Austria. He came to the United States with his parents in 1908 and lived near West. He was a World War I veteran Brother Jaska had been a member of SPJST Lodge No. 126 since Oct. 5th, 1919 (57 years). He was a longtime and faithful_ member who also served as vice president for many years.

Surviving Brother Jaska ate several nieces and nephews.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge Texaska Orlice Dime Box No. 13, in behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sincere sympathy to the family of our departed lodge brother, PAUL JOHN PRATRO, who passed away August 28th, 1976 at his residence on Ease Austin in Giddings.

Brother Pratho was born on Aug. 3rd, 1894 in Lincoln, Texas, the son of John and Marie Bench Pratho.

He grew up in Winchester, Texas.

After attending Massey's Business College in Houston, he worked as a barber and he was also employed as a bookkeeper for Southern Pacific Railroad.

In 1919 he went into business in Giddings. Later on Brother Pratho, along with his brothers, Albert and William Pratho, organized Pratho's Dry Goods Store. He continued in business for over 40 years and retired from active business in 1965.

Brother Pratho was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served on numerous positions, including secretary-treasurer and as an elder, Brother Pratho was also a member of SPJST Lodge No. 13, Dime Box since Sept. 28th, 1945.

Services for Brother Pratho were held in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Giddings on Aug. 31st., with Rev. Emil Krugler officiating.

Interment was in Giddings Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marie Pratho of Giddings; son, Paul M. Pratho of Euless; daughter, Mrs. Mignometti Pruess of Lexington; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Nerger and Gertrude Osthoff, both of Giddings; and two brothers, Albert Pratho and William Pratho, both of Giddings.

Brother Lepik was born in Czechoslovakia Sept. 17tha1885. He came to the United States at the age of 28, and settled at Moravia in Lavaca County. From there he moved to Wharton County, where he lived for the past 48 years. He was a retired" farmer.

Funeral services were held in St. John's Catholic Church in Hungerford at 10 a.m. Friday morning, Aug. 20th, with Rev. Rachunek officiating. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, East Bernard.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Marie Kosik of ntuigerford,
