FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Once again it is that time of the year for the majority of our districts to hold and host their respective fall meetings. By now most of you should be aware of the fact that district meetings are essential to the Society. For one thing, it maintains closer contact with the entire membership, as well as being steadily abreast of the district's and the Home Office's operations; these being the first meetings (with the exception of District II) which was already held in August should be of importance to you in what has been accomplished thus far.

The elected officers of each district endeavor to outline and prepare informative meetings, entertainment, plus socializing for the whole family and guests; nothing could be more disappointing than to have a small attendance after the host lodge, including district officers spend their limited time to end up with an unsuccessful event.

District V will hold their meeting at Lodge Stefanik No. 142, hosted by the members of Lodge 176, Houston Northwest. This lodge does not have a lodge home, yet the membership is willing to pitch in with their efforts and exemplify their brotherly way to do their share of work. With its size in membership, they are to be commended for their initiative to host a district meeting, so pledge' your attendance and give them your full support since this is

District III's fall meeting date

was changed from October 24th to October 31st, with Ennis Lodge 25 hosting the meeting. Keep this change of date in mind. Sunday, October 31st. An outlined agenda shall be published soon. * * The editor wishes to call your attention to another huge annual spectacular that will take place soon. The 36th American-Czechoslovak Day at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas is planned for Sunday, October 10th with a program which appears in this issue. A variety of entertainment, delicious Czech foods, ladies in their original Czech costumes (kroje) who will model them, plus lively music by various musicians will be yours to enjoy and a day to remember. Set aside this designated Czech day and be a part of the crowd at the State Fair in Dallas. Let's make this Czech Day a memorial during our Nation's 200th Anniversary. * * At this time our members and readers are reminded that we still are holding back material such as youth letters and Expressions of Sympathy in the English Section due to the fact that we are also trying to include all of our correspondence in Czech. Keep in mind that our SPJST oriented material has top priority; after all, our Society is paying for publishing the Vestnik. would be less demanding if we had a semi-monthly (once every 2 weeks) publication, however, how in the world could we get all of the material we receive in just 2 copies a month when our weekly issues are' not enough? Quite frankly, our membership, Supreme Lodge officers and, Society as a whole, should be thankful there is as much interest among our correspondents as there is. As long as there is interest and activity in our lodges our fraternal lodge system will endure, of that ydu may rest assured. Other fraternals watch us with interest. * * A beginner's conversational Czech course was scheduled to begin at West High School Sept. 22nd. Miss Mary Dvoracek is the instructor.

NEWSBRIEFS Charles Galetka, 81, of Rt. 3, Hallettsville, passed away in a nursing home in Yoakum on Sept. 18th.

Funeral services were held from the CMB Church in Vsetin on Sept.

20th, with interment in the Vsetin Cemetery. Bro. Galetka was a retired farmer and member of SPJST Lodge No. 4, Hallettsville.

Antonie (Ondrusek) Horak, 87, died in the SPJST Rest Home in Taylor on Monday, Sept. 20th. Funeral services were held on Sept.

24th in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, with burial in that cemetery. HOnorary President Edward L. Marek delivered the eulogy in Restland Park Chapel. Sister Horak had been active in the SPJST for many years in her younger life. She was a member of SPJST Lodge Jaro 130 in Dallas. * * Trlica-Kopecky Reunion The Trlica-Kopecky reunion will be held at the American Legion Hall Oct. 10th, 1976 in Hallettsville.

Relatives are asked to come and bring a basket lunch.

Congratulations to all sisters and brothers for making the month of August a big month; hope all of you help us in the month of September, so we can make our quota we are just a little short of meeting our quota of $364,000. All of you who have not made any sales try real hard so you can say you also have helped to meet our goal for 1976.

All you sales representatives and SPJST members and guests please circle this date and come out for a good day of fellowship with all your sisters and brothers in the district. Our fall District V meeting will be Oct. 3, 1976 at Lodge 142 and the host lodge will be Lodge 1'76, Houston Northwest. Won't you come out and support your district?

The meeting was called to order by President Robert Pavelka at 2:30 p.m.

All of the lodge officers were at the meeting, except Secretary Bonnie Pruitt. She was unable to be at the meeting because she was sick.

The pledge of allegiance and lodge motto were led by Dana Pavelka and Darrelene Roberson.

Sister Jeanette Smith thanked everyone for all the beautiful flowers, cards, gifts and all the wonderful phone calls she received while she was in the hospital. We are very glad that she is out and is doing fine.

Sister Jeanette Smith thanked all the ladies on the Entertainment Committee for getting the food together for the birthday celebration of the lodge.

The Hi-Toppers are not going to be able' to come to Waco to play this next year. They have one more booking for this year. and it is Nov. 20th, so everyone try to come out to see them for the last time.

Sister Libby Parma said the

youth club had a great time at the ice cream and pizza party; not only did they eat a lot, they did some craft work. They had about 65 to come out to the party and everyone enjoyed it.

The youth club also did very well at the State YAD. They came in third in the state. We are very proud of our youth club. Tena, Urbanek (13-14) won 1st in ScienceEducational; Randy Nors (6-9) placed 1st in Hobby Kits. There were' 11 others who were there and 6 of them won second places: Donna Stanislav (6-9) Handicraft, Janice Stanislav (6-9) Science iEducatonal and Pictorial Arts; Vikki Nors (10-12) Constructed Items; and Steven Stanislav (13-14) Individual Talent and Pictorial Art. The youth club showed us their arts that they did at District III YAD. They did this at our meeting.

The club members are getting some more cookbooks to sell, so if you didn't get one and would like to have one, let someone in the youth club know about it.

The door prize winner for this month was Annetta Mazanec.

There were' several sick people this month. Get-well cards were sent to Kay Gerlich, Anton Mazanec, Jeanette Smith, Judy Palms, Eddie Lee Thompson, and Gerry Campbell. We hope that each of you are on the' road to recovery.

A very nice thank you card was received from Mrs. Mizera; she is the mother of Sister Annie . Hanus, who was in the hospital.

There were a couple of sympathy cards sent to Brother Frank Kofnovec and family; also to Brother Henry Becham and family. We express our greatest sympathy to you.

12 LODGE NO. 176, HOUSTON NORTHWEST The regular meeting of Lodge 176 was held Sept. 20th at Long Point National Bank. President Harry Schuhmann called the meeting to order.

The minutes from the last month's meeting were read by Sister Pat Daughtery.

Treasurer's report was given by Sister Ruth Moore.

Discussion concerned the preparations for the fall District V meeting which we (the lodge members) will host on Oct. 3rd at Lodge Stefanik No. 142, 5508 Nolda, Houston. Following the meeting there will be music furnished by the Country Sound, the great sound of polka-waltz, plus variety music.

More discussion was on the matter of purchasing land for our new lodge home. We are still urging more members to attend our regular meetings (to voice their opinions on this matter) which are held monthly on every third Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Long Point National Bank in the Western Room.

This lodge has great possibilities.

Another reminder: Our annual meeting will be held Nov. 15th at the VFW Hall in Addicks.

Once again we are proud of Gary Schuhmann and all the youth of our lodge who have won awards and participated. Their parents and we, the members, are very proud. Keep up the good Work, kiddoes!

We are glad to hear that Mr. A. B. Stubbs is out of the hospital. We hope he keeps on improving, and this includes the other folks who have been sick.

Then the secretary read the letter from our member, Gene Hacketnack, who is presently employed in Iran. He states that he wishes to hear from members and friends.

LODGE NO. 81, NEEDVILLE Dear Members and Friends: Our September meeting was convened at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.

4th by President Charlie Matcek.

The members stood for a moment of silent tribute to our members who passed away since our last meeting. They were Brothers Johnny Macek of Elkhart and Joe Merecka who was a resident of Needville S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home II for several months. Our sincere sympathy is extended to their families on the loss of their loved ones.

The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read by Se'cretary Mary Werner.

Reports were given by Financial Secretary Ellene Zwaiir and Treasurer Corlis Vallet.

A very thorough report on all income and expense for the past month was given by the Special Fund Treasurer Gilbert Walzel.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new member, Don-

ald Ray Pate.

Members who were hospitalized since our last meeting are Brother and Sister Louis Tejkl. Sister Tejkl came home Tuesday but Brother Louis is still hospitalized. Brother Leo Mikeska underwent surgery recently and he is at home now convalescing and resting. Our sincere wishes for their speedy and complete recovery are with them.

We have members who are ill in their respective homes and in rest homes who need constant care.

To them, and to those who take care of them go our warm thoughts and our Jove.

Get-well cards were mailed to Brother Leroy Kamas and Sisters Mary Matloch and Matilda Slacalek.

In my last report I mentioned that we have voted to sponsor a barbecue dinner as a fund-raising proje'ct to help pay for our new home building. The barbecue will be held Sunday, Oct. 10th, at 11 a.m., and the meat will be sold at the pit, also. Cards will be mailed out to you, dear members, asking for your support in furnishing pastry, pickles, tea, coffee, lemons and sugar.

We will also have a Country Store like we have been having, so we are hoping you will support it, also.

We are inviting all our neighboring lodges to come out and enjoy the day with us.

Our next meeting will be held at night again. It will fall on the first Tuesday, Oct. 5th, at 7:30 p.m.

Due to a lengthy meeting, we did not have a lunch. The refund checks were distributed and the door prize was won by Sister Mary Werner who, in turn, gave it back to the lodge. Thank you Sister Werner.

This part of the report is a quelsbon. One idea presented in our meeting was that we should have a lodge picnic with snacks and refreshments furnished by the lodge.

This is asking the members to let the officers know if they would be interested in this idea. Who knows, we might open up a keg, so members let us know.

A moment of silent tribute was observed for Sister Allene Christian, Sister Josephine Hejny and Brother Stout.

It was brought to the members' attention that the kitchen was in need of repairs. After a thorough discussion, a motion was made and seconded to go ahead with the kitchen repairs.

Brother Johnie Hrabina has been in the hospital but is now home and doing well. Brother Cecil Isom is also ill. We wish a speedy recovery to both.

I would like to remind everyone that our monthly meeting changes in October to the second Sunday at 2 p.m. This means our next meeting will be Sunday, Oct. 10th at 2 Also, in our October meeting, the membership will be asked to vote for Mr. and Mrs. SPJST. 36th AMERICAN-CZECHOSLOVAK DAY AT THE STATE FAIR The American - Czech Cultural Society, representing the major Czech fraternals and organizations in Texas, have finalized plans for the 36th anniversary of the American-Czechoslovak Day at the State Fair of Texas on Sunday, Oct. 10th at the State Fair grounds

in Dallas.

The day's activities will begin at the Livestock Coliseum at 9:30 a.m. with the Czech Day program.

Among the featured groups will be the Dallas Czech Concert Orchestra conducted by Cyrill Pokladnik; special numbers by the American Sokol Oganization, Southern District Units; Moravian Maypole danced by the youth; Czech choral music by a statewide choir directdd by Nick Morris, the Moravian Beseda danced by circles from throughout the state, and a special salute to the United States, "Happy Birthday, America" by various participating groups.

At noon, the activities will move to the Band shell where food and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

The afternoon program will feature the accordions of Jerry Petter and Johnny Dobucek; the polka music of Bill Kucera's Czech-Mates from Mesquite; the KJT Youth Polka Band, and a parade of authentic Czech-Moravian Kroj narrated by Miss Agnes Houdek.

Throughout the day, Czech participants 'shall be performing for the fair visitors at various locations. At noon, a program will be presented at the Women's Building with polka music, the Liska Family Singers; a ballet featuring the music of Smetana; the Maypole dance by the Abbott KJT-KJZT; the Beseda, and a parade of Kroj.

The Big Tex stage program will consist of a Sokol Exhibition and the dancing of Czech folk-dances and the Moravian Beseda.

In front of the Hall of State at 3 p.m., special numbers will be presented by the American Sokol.

The day will conclude with a repeat performance at the Big Tex stage at 7 pm, and participation in the torch-light parade within the Fair Grounds.

The Ametrican-Czech Culture Society extends an invitation to all and hope you will come and enjoy the 36th celebration of American-Czechoslovak Day in its salute to the United' States on its 200th anniversary.

FEATURES MORE PICTURES FROM OUR XXIInd CONVENTION This week's pictures are again from the Wednesday night banquet and musical program that followed.

The Convention Planning Committee had sponsored and planned the performance by the chorus, which was officially designated many months before as the XXIInd SPJST Convention Chorus. After unsuccessful attempts had been made to secure the musical services of two other fine groups in the State of Texas (The Singing Cadets from A&M and the Chordsmen Chorus from San Antonio), the Planning Committee turned to Bro. Morris to form a chorus, similar to what he had done at the XIX Convention held in Waco in 1964. A lot of time, gasoline, telephone calls, and laters were expended before the first rehearsal of the chorus in mid-January of this year. Prospective members were solicited and the response was very favorable so that the final number that composed the chorus was 45, plus the accompanist.

These were just the singers. Before the planning was completed, a brass octet was added, a 5-man drum corps, and a 9-piece string ensemble were brought into augment the chorus. Rehearsals were held at Linden Hall, home of Lodge 66, Waco, every two weeks. Some of the chorus members attended and participated from as far away as Houston; others came from Temple-Rogers area. The majority, however, were from the WestWaco-Hillsboro areas. Singers from the Dallas-Taylor-Victoria areas were also solicited. All of them were devoted and faithful — and very talented. A dress rehearsal was held a week prior to the start of the convention with all of the instruments and musicians present. During rehearsals several numbers were tried and dropped because the arrangements were not suitable or because the program would be too long. Arrangements had to be written for the strings and the brass. Many meetings were held and telephone calls made about the music and the arrangements. School, wrote the arrangements SCENES FROM THE XXIInd SPJST CONVENTION for the dinner music and for those numbers performed with the chorus, including the brass arrangement with the chorus for "Kde domov muj?" Mark Barton of West, music student at Baylor University, wrote the brass arrangements for all the other selections, including the passages performed during the "Lincoln Portrait," which was narrated and performed during "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Bro. Otto Hanus designed the props and attached the large U. S. Flag at the rear of the stage so that one tug on the string would make the flag unfurl on signal.

I am greatly indebted to Mr. Meehan, Mark Barton, and to Charles Nemec, assistant director, for their technical-music advice.

They are all very professional and competent. Of course, we could not have performed and had our rehearsals without our very competent young pianist, Mike Archer.

Special recognition goes also to Bro. Edward L. Marek and his two young assistants for the impressive and most dignified Memorial Service. Many comments were heard about this portion of the program, many stating that it was the nicest and most impressive that they had ever seen. I agree.

All in all, it was an experience that I personally enjoyed. It was a lot of hard work, but it was enjoyable and I believe the chorus members felt as I did. One might ask, Why Confederate uniforms? "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was born in the tragic

days of the Civil War, Lincoln was the president during that war and finally, Texas is in the South.

The alternating drum corps, brass and narration was, I thought, quite impressive, as the drum corps advanced toward the stage after each segment. The ending was quite well executed and climactic.

"The Battle Hymn of the Republic" usually is. It brought the audience

15 to their feet.

The other climax came during the chorus' performance of "God Bless America" when a Sokol unit from the Southern District built a human pyramid on one side of the stage and the young gymnast at the top of the pyramid raised a United States Flag at about the time the song was ended and at about the time the large United States Flag was unfurled on the curtain at the back of the stage.

This received another standing ovation.

The names of the Sokol participants and their units in the Southern District follow. I want to thank Bro. Larry Laznovsky, Director of Men in the Southern District, for making one special trip to the Convention Center during the planning of this program SEigtient.

The Sokol participants were Jerry Milan from the Fort Worth unit, Louis Janosek, Gary Johnson, and David Nesuda from the Dallas unit; and the following from the Ennis unit: Diane Trlica„ Rodney Houdek, Lee Hamilton, Kevin Oates, Billy Newsome, Mark Hamilton, Stuart Hamilton, Harrel Hamilton., Martin Brazil, Bruce Wardlaw, and Larry Laznovsky.

Since the convention, the chorus has been asked to perform at Czech Day at the State Fair in Dallas, Oct. 10th, and at Czech Day at Lodge 88, Houston, on Oct. 24th.

We are glad to oblige.

We are grateful and humbled by the many expressions of commendation after the program. I recall that one lady said she thought she was in Radio City Music Hall! Another gentleman (I believe it was Bro. Linn Pescala), said he had never heard anything quite like it.

The singers and other personnel were listed in the programs that were at each banquet setting, so those will not be repeated here.

The chorus' performance of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" also included "A Lincoln Portrait' which was very ably narrated by Ron Hall, former RWTX-TV news director and area news personality. without approval of a three-member commission consisting of representatives of the Veteran Club, the Technical Museum and the Tuzex state foreign currency concern.

Though Aeros are a rarity abroad one Swiss buyer paid 16,000 Swiss francs (about $6,400 U.S.) for his Aero. In Czechoslovakia, they sell for 2,000 to 2,800 crowns. (A Czech crown roughly equals a dollar.)

Unlike most veteran cars, Aeros are bought for use and not for show as a museum piece. A convoy of three to five tooling along a country road on a long holiday trek is a common sight here.

Aero owners drive their cars; Veteran Club members by comparison organize sedate parades, says Aero owner Karel Jicinsky. "We just maintain our cars, they restore theirs."

Aero buffs say they have little trouble passing their robust oldsters through roadworthy checks or keeping then) up to date with the latest road safety requirements.

Part of the fun of ownership is tinkering about. But, says Milos Linhart, a technical designer, "Whenever a new owner thinks he can make an improvement, he eventually returns to the original design, it is so good."

He claims the open cars, which have a collapsible canvas roof, can

DENNIS F. JUREN RECEIVES PETROLEUM CORP. PROMOTION Tesoro Petroleum Corp. (NYSE) has announced the promotion of Dennis F. Juren to Group Vice President — Refining, Marketing and Transportation. Juren was formerly Senior Vice President of the group at Tesoro.

Prior to joining Tesoro in 1970, Juren was vice president of Coastal States Gas Producing Co. He holds both BA and MBA degrees from the University of Houston. He is a member of the American Petroleum Institute.

Tesoro Petroleum Corp. is engaged in various segments of the

energy industry including exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas refining, transporting and marketing of petroleum products; manufacturing and leasing of oil field equipment; contract drilling of oil and gas wells; and mining of coal. Tesoro's operations are conducted in 33 states of the U.S., including Alaska, and five foreign countries.

Dennis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Juren of Ellinger; a graduate of the La Grange High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin for two years.

During the Korean war he volunteered in the U. S. Army, and spent one year with the Signal Corps in Germany.

He is a member of SPJST Lodge No. 51, Ellinger.

About half way through the program Bro. Morris asked Bro. Ben and Sis. Regina Zabcik to ascend the stage to receive special recognition and to accept a plaque honoring Bro. Ben's retirement from the Supreme Lodge on 1 January 1977 after 16 years of faithful service.

The chorus' performance of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" received a standing ovation. The huge flag at the center of the stage was unfurled on signal and helped dramatize the overall patriotic theme that evening.

Stage props were built by Bro. Harms in vivid colors of red, white and blue. The chorus members' music was in folders decorated in red, white and blue. The selections performed by the chorus are listed in the accompanying article.

DISTRICT III FALL MEETING Lodge No. 79 Corpus Christi and and Lodge No. 117 Robstown are cohosting our fall meeting Oct. 17th at Sokol Hall in Corpus Christi.

A hot meal is being prepared for 12 noon and everyone is invited to come out to the meeting and have your meal. Support these people who are working to make this day a success.

From he Lodge Youth !eaden: LODGE NO. 6, COTTONWOOD Dear Readers, The youth club meeting was held Sept. 10th following the mother lodge meeting. The attendance was good. We had two visitors. Come back to our club again.

Sept. 8th the youth club went to West Rest Haven as guests this time. We helped with their program and took refreshments. We helped with their program and took refreshments. We enjoyed it very much.

Sept. 4 and 5 we had two big days at the Westf est. The club had a booth and we also had a float in the parade. Our club won 1st place for best decorative booth. A big thank you to each one of you who donated pastries, canned goods, or other things and worked. We couldn't have a booth without your help. Thanks a million!

We held a Stanley party and also sold Tupperware.

Sept. 19th we had our annual picnic at Spivey's Crossing. Even though it rained on us, we still enjoyed the outing.

Sept. 25th several of us attended State Royalty at Lodge No. 177, Academy. We met at West Bank & Trust at 12:30 p.m. to leave for Academy.

During the month of August the youth club also had several activities going on which included: Aug. 15th — some of the youth club members and my assistant youth leader, Rose Uptmor, went to Spivey's Crossing for swimming and a cookout. I didn't get to go.

Aug. 29th — We attended State YAD. There were seven entries in arts and crafts and one talent entry from our club. Three of them won 1st place in arts and crafts: David Dobecka in Science-Educational, Joyce Wachsmann in HobbyKits, Theresa Dobecka in Home Arts.

We also won the Merit Point awards: Junior of the Year — Darrell Uptmor; Teenager of the Year — Doug Uptmor; Youth Club of the Year — Lodge Cottonwood No. 6; Youth Leader of the Year — Willie Mae Schuetz. And Douglas Uptmor was the recipient of the $500 scholarship. In addition to

the other awards, several of our club members were among the ten top juniors and teenagers in the state. We are proud of the many honors our youth club received.

We worked very hard for all the achievements. I do want to thank the parents and members, including my assistant, Rose Uptmor, for working with me. It takes a lot of world Birthday celebrants for the month of September are Betty Pavlas, Jeannie Marie Ohase and Theresa Dobecka. Darrell Uptmor brought the cake. Thank you, Darrell. He will again bring the cake in October.

The meeting was called to order by president Carol Oates, at 2 p.m. The secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting. They were approved as read. The attendance was good; there were 11 guests present.

Plans were made for the coming months. Some of them are: going to a musical, "Annie Get Your Gun," a Halloween party, Tupper Ware party, and going to a movie.

The youth leader, Mrs. Thelma Hrncir, gave her report. In her report she stated the events at camp and also about the first place winners at State YAD. The Robstown club had 3 first place winners. The meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m.

After the meeting was adjourned,

there was a birthday party for the members who had birthdays in September. One member and three guests celebrated their birthdays.

"Happy Birthday" was sung by all members and guests. The cake was brought by Carol Cates and the punch by Chris Hill.

At 3:15 everybody helped in putting •the refreshments on the bus.

Then everyone got on the bus and we began our trip to Meloquite Beach. We arrived there at 4:30.

We all enjoyed swimming- and playing in the sand. Everyone enjoyed refreshments and the marshmallow roast. The time went by fast and we packed the bus, sand and all, and came home, tired but happy.

We all hope to go back soon.

Rosary for Brother Fojtik was held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.

1, 1976, at Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. David Redmond, (MI, pastor, officiating.

Services were held at 2 p.m.

Thursday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seymour, with Rev. Redmond officiating.

Pallbearers were: Bob Farr, Henry Fojtik, Jimmie Fojt, Lynn Holman, Jerry Mocek, Henry Stavinoha, Paul D. Buck, and Frank

Adolph Fojtik was born Feb. 11th, 1903, son of Anton Fojtik, Sr., and Mary Gabrish, in Burleson County, town of Merle.

His father was born in Czechoslovakia and played his violin in lieu of his passage in crossing to the United States in 1875.

His mother, Mary Gabrish, was born in Washington County in 1862.

His family moved to Baylor County in 1909, buying a farm in the Cache Creek Community. In 1914, Adolph and family moved to Seymour. Adolph started in the grocery business in 1923 by opening the Spot Cash Grocery. In 1927 his brother, Anton Fojtik, Jr., became a partner in the Spot Cash Grocery, which continued for over 30 years. Then, Adolph continued the operation of the store until his retirement in 1968 when he sold the grocery to his two nephews, Henry and Edmond Fojtik.

Adolph married Lenora 0, Fojt in 1929 at Caldwell,. having reared one son in Seymour, Billy Joe, who now resides in Dallas.

Adolph served for eight ye'ars on the city council and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Adolph also served for eight years on the hospital board and was chairman of the first Housing Project in Seymour.

Adolph and family were active members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served as chairman of the building committee for the Catholic Rectory and the Sacred Heart Church and was

the board of directors of the Farmers National Bank and was president of SPJST Lodge No. 95 having taken the office from his father in 1932 at the time of his father's death.

He was extremely active in the Lions Club, KJT, and Knights of Columbus, having held high office in all three organizations.

He and Lenora were extremely active in church and city social and community affairs.

Adolph is survived by hid wife, Lenora: Billy Joe of Dallas, and one sister, Mrs. Francis Sebesta of Snook.

Adolph was known as A. J., and was loved by his family and friends so he will be missed and long remembered as a pioneer and pillar of the community.

No words can express our sympathy and sense of loss at the passing of Brother Adolph, so, if you will, remember him in your prayers.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Besides his grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Martha; two sons, Eric and James; a daughter, Gretchen, all of Corpus Christi; his mother, Mrs. Helen Tate of George West; and one sister, Mrs. Jean Mitchell of Beeville.

Brother John served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was currently employed as a brakeman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

Mikulec - SPJST — EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the undersigned Resolution Committee, in behalf of the entire membership of SPJST Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed lodge sister, MARIE BAKLUDA, age 95, of West, who passed away in a West hospital Wednesday night, June 9, 1976.

Sister Bakluda was a native of Czechoslovakia and had lived in West for the past 70 years. She married John Bakluda on Nov. 11, 1901, in Czechoslovakia, and he preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1941.

She was also preceded in death by a son, John Joe Bakluda, who died May 26th, of this year.

Sister Bakluda was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, the church's Altar and Rosary Societies, the KJZT Society No. 104 and the SPJST Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood.

Rosary was recited at 8 p.m.

Thursday, June 10th, at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West.

Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, June 11th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with Rev. George Doskocil serving as celebrant. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery in West.
