FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, July 18 we attended the YAD of District VI. It was a most pleasant day at the Victoria Community Center hosted by Lodge No. 32, Victoria, and Lodge No. 4, Hallettsville. The program was well District planned and exk-:eute,.! Youth Counselor Elsie Brdecka. Her report and the pictures will appear in the next issue. District VI has enthusiastic youth and that is revealed in the letters in the Youth Section and their YADs. DYC Sister Brde'cka deserves our gratefulness for her continuous work with the youth leaders and youth of District VI, * , In the convention issue and two subsequent issues of our Vestnik there were "petitions" signed by various members calling for a larger Czech section of our Vest-. nik. I do not know whether they were' sent to me for publication or not, however, in the spirit of a free and open press, we printed them. I have refrained from using the more personal "I" in the past and used "we" instead, however, I find that this has led too many of our readers to think that there is a staff of editorial workers here. The only help in the editor's office is my wife, Maxine, who has worked at this office over five years (since April 1971) without any pay from the SPJST, and is doing so now. I prefer the "we" 'because it is less personal, and I feel more

BROTHERHOOD Brotherhood is not just a Bible word. Out of comradeship can come 9,1.1 ,.11;;,-; the happy life for all. The underdog can and will lick his weight in the wildcats of the world. —Heywood Broun * * Then none was for a party; Then all were for the state; Then the great man helped the poor, And the poor man loved the great; Then lands were fairly portioned; Then spoils Were fairly sold: The Romans were like brothers In the brave days of old. —Macauley Horatius priate. It seems to me that I remember that Abraham Lincoln did not dwell on the "I" too much in his, now famous, Gettysburg Address and yet he was the one delivering it! Your editor wishes to ask, if you will, please have a little patience and understanding of what we are faced with. To explain — the type is set at the print shop next door both in English and in Czech. Here the "we" is appropriate because one of the shop's make-up men composes the English section, and yours truly composes the Czech
section after it has been set by Mr. Leo Janicek. Here is our problem: Since before the convention there has been an over-abundant amount of SPJST-connected material and we !lave only 32 pages to place it in. For instance, the May Supreme Lodge financial statement was delayed until July 14th and the June statement appeared only last week, July 21st. When there is no room you try to make room, or simply leave it out and delay it. We are leaving out some Expressions of Sympathy and Feature article's this week. We are doing - our best and are trying our utmost to comply with By-Law Article 46 (i), which states: (i) A portion of the printed material should be in the English language and a portion in the Czeth language. In the event it becomes necessary, alaiger portion thereof may be in the English or Czech language. There shall be only one front page. In further explanation, the original contracts dating back to 1932 allowed the publisher up to 6 pages in the back part of the Vestnik for advertising and was later reduced to 4 and now the contract allows 3 pages in the back of the Vestnik for the publisher's use. The statement made by this writer when elected in 1968 that: as long as he is editor the Czech section will remain a part of the Vestnik if at all possible still stands. Our past •editor and now president of
