FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK In our center front page you will note there is a picture of Brother David Alan Kolar, a member of Lodge .Taromir No. 54, West. Your editor feels this is an appropriate time!, to acquaint our membership with him for several reasons. One of these reasons is that he co-hosts the American-Czech Hour on radio station KHBR in Hillsboro (1560 AM--102.5 FM) every Sunday from .30 to 3 p.m. with your editor as host. The program is listened to quite regularly and extensively in this area and the listeners enjoy hearing David speak Czech even though he is of the younger generation. Since yours truly is on the road 36 to 45 Sundays a year to districts and YADs, etc., the program is usually pre-taped in David's well-equipped and costly studio at his home. He speaks, understands and reads Czech rather well and is a staff announcer (in English, of course) on the radio station.

Probably the main reason for his picture appearing at this time is that Saturday, July 24, (this month) he is getting married to Miss Rebecca Noel Kaddatz of West. We have known them both since we moved to West January 1, 1969 and they are both very nice young people and we wish them a wonderful future. Her family is and has been our neighbor since we moved here. Ow Society is proud to have members like these. They both are friendly, likeable, talented and

The proâ&#x20AC;˘, ap t was well-planned by DYC Frank Klinkovsky and nicely presented by MC Stephen Parrish who made a gentlemanly performance of it. DYC Frank Klinkovsky has his report in this issue so be sure to read it. Your editor truly appreciates the cooperation of the DYCs, youth leaders and youth in taking the pictures, in an expedient manner; too many occasions, arise when some of the youth disappear before the pictures are taken. That was not so this time. Be sure to stay and have your picture made.

Pictures of the YAD are also in this issue.

Here it is well to add that we have received many favorable comments on the cover picture (the two Miss SPJSTs) and others inside in the June 23rd issue (immediately after the convention) and the speed with which we processed them. It took some extra effort, however, that is one advantage of being able to develop and process them right here at the print shop.

We're glad you liked them. Four other newspapers requested and got the cover picture and we feel that this helps our SPJ'ST in the way of publicity. Mary, you and Kathy got more coverage than you realize! * * I attended the SL meetings Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 13, 14, and 15 this week and will have my observations of them in future issues. I observed and heard a few things our membership may be interested in. * * Texas Folklife Festival will be held August 5-8 in San Antonio where visitors will have a chance to try kolache and learn about other traditional aspects of Czech life. Scores of other activities are scheduled for the event at the Institute of Texas Cultures.

Most Texans know what kolache are, whether the word is pronounced KO-lath or ko-LACE. That's because the Czech culture is well fused into Texas life. This tantalizing pastry, with its scrumptious poppyseed, prune, apricot, cream cheese or pineapple filling, is famed in Texas as a Czechoslovakian delicacy.

The Ed Kadlecek family (SPJST members) of New Braunfels will sing traditional songs, wearing costumes from their European heritage. The Czech Folk Dance Club of Dallas will perform the lively circle' dances known as Beseda.

If you can, attend this gala folklife festival.

Recently, we had the pleasure of having Dr. and Mrs. Charles Holub of Houston and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nemec of Lake Whitney as visitors; and shortly before presstime, District III Director Sid Pokladnik paid us a brief visit on his way to the SPJST Home Office in Temple. * * Gireetings were received from Brother Bob and Sister Anna Zvolanek of Dallas who were attending the Zurich Sokol Slet in Switzerland. They were also touring Austria, Gormany, Belgium, Holland, and France. A safe. and enjoyable! voyage is wished to them.

UNCORRECTED MINUTES OF THE DISTRICT II SPRING MEETING The District II spring meeting was called to order at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 1976, at Lodge 47, Seaton, by President Alice Banning.

Frank Pajestka, Jr., 2nd vice president, led the pledge of allegiance. Jerry Pechal, president of Lodge 47, welcomed all those attending the meeting.

We paid respect to our deceased members with a minute of silence.

We had a total of 65 members to depart from April 7, 1975 to March 8, 1976.

Frank Klinkovsky, our District II youth counselor, had all in attendance to join in the singing of two songs. There were no special youth skits due to the Miss SPJST contest to follow the meeting.

The roll call of officers indicated that all were present. Roll call of lodges showed that Seaton had the largest attendance with 71, followed by Taylor and Beyersville with 19 each. Members from Cameron, Rosebud, and Austin, were not in attendance.

Minutes of the fall meeting were read and approved as read.

win Adamek showed that we had $200.72 in the Youth Fund and $26.72 in the General District II Officers' Fund. The Audit Committee reported that the books were in order.

Howard Lesikar, rest homes director, gave us a report on what had been done to the rest homes to bring them up to meet state requirements. District II Director Henry Vitek gave a short report.

District Sales Repr. Lad Zatopek gave a short report for the past year and had the representatives stand to be recognized.

SL President Nick Morris sent his regrets at not being able to attend since he was at the District VI meeting in Wharton. Ben Zabcik, SL financial secretary, gave us greetings from the Supreme Lodge and brought checks for $1,217.10 for our District Youth Fund and $150.00 for the General District II Officers' Fund. Rudy Sefcik, editor of the Vestnik, reported on items that would be of importance to delegates attending the 22nd Convention; and he asked members to discuss this information with their delegates. Joe B. Hejny, SL vice president, gave a short report as did Legal Advisor Reuben Lesikar.

District III Director Sid Pokladnik and his wife, Justine, of Dallas; District V Sales Representative Mvei y n Mikeska and husband, of Houston; Brother and Sister Otto Hanus were among our special list of visitors.

We had 16 members recognized as being 50-year members this year.

The By-Law Committee gave their report at this time. Changes were presented by Ruby Bolton, chairman. Sister Bolton explained all changes with the most important being that all spring meetings be held the 4th Sunday in March unless Easter falls on that date; then the meeting will be held the following Sunday, and the fall meeting the 2nd Sunday in August. After there was no more discussion, Sister Bolton moved that we accept these changes which was seconded by Reuben Lesikar. The changes were accepted by all voting members.

LODGE NO. 88, ROUSTON Dear Brothers and Sisters, I have so much to report in this letter that I hardly know where to begin. I think I'll begin with the Fourth of July Celebration at Lodge 88. The day started out cloudy, but the sun soon appeared and boy, did it stay hot all day! But everyone had a great time outdoors at the Gazebo, the dunking booth, kolache booth, and ring toss, to mention a few. There were bands playing all day and Tex Cherry, the harmonica master, gave a performance. Mr. Joe Bowman, the straight shooting, fast draw cowboy gave a fantastic shooting demonstration and we even had a fashion show. The fashions were from the 1890s up to the 1940s. The dresses were lovely and so were the models. Some of the outfits were originals and provided by Barbara Wahlberg. The winners of the show were: 1st place — O'Connor and Irene Slovacek, who were dressed as twins in long afternoon dresses of the 1900s; 2nd place — Janet Sanitz in a gold and yellow velvet and lace evening dress of the 1890s; 3rd place — Barbara Wahlberg in a white 2piece suit of the 1930s and 1920s and a black broad brimmed hat.

All the ladies looked lovely and we ought to have something like that more often. Our only Bicentennial man was Mr. Bill Lynch, He was dressed in an authentic looking minuteman costume. Mr. Lynch was visiting us as a guest of Mr. Eric Fine and his family. Mr. Lynch really looked great out there dancing with all our models and the other ladies in the crowd. He really added a colonial look to our celebration.

When night came, everyone moved inside to dance some more

8 and to wait for the door prize drawing. Here• were the winners and what they won: Carol Garcia, trip to Las Vegas; Dick Elenet, color TV; Carol Crosby, shotgun; Erna O'Connor, CB radio; John Klander, 10-speed bike; Glenda Whittenberg, 4 auto tires; Jane Freeze, microwave oven; Squatty Lyons, mink stole; Lucy Pederson, $200 savings bond; and Wm. A. Hilsher, $100 savings bond.

Congratulations to all the winners and I hope everyone had a great time. A great big extra thanks to all of those who set up the booths and decorations Saturday, and to all those who worked out in the heat Sunday in the booths.

At the monthly meeting last Monday night, we stood in silent memory of these departed members: Stanley Elzner, Ann Siller, Charles Matthes, Jr., Vincent Bednar, and Herbert Hughes. It was reported that Alfred Hilsher was home now and recovering nicely from his surgery and also Frank Tymel was at this meeting and it was so good to see him after his extensive hospital stay. Agnes Miculka is recovering from surgery at St. Joseph Hospital and Virginia Kopinsky, sister of Dorothy Dixon is still in St. Joseph's as of this writing. Doris Alford has now been moved to the Methodist Hospital; call before you go by and tell her hello. Please remember these brothers and sisters in your thoughts and prayers this week.

Willie Mae Woods is also home sick with bronchitis and we hope she gets to feeling well very soon.

My mom, Mrs. Mary Schenburn, would like to thank Mrs. Ruth Duncan for putting in a. plea for rags in her behalf at the meeting, for the summer ceramic classes.

Our little spiller who spilled five times the first day has only spilled once in the last two weeks. But we do need rags desperately, so please bring them on Thursdays to the classes at 10 a.m., or bring them by the lodge during the week and take them to Mrs. Gill or Mrs. Kennedy in the office. They will be glad to accept them.

Mrs. Duncan also announced that there will be a District V youth meeting at Lodge 88 June 17th. Please check the Vestnik for the time. Also your camp and YAD registration cards should have been in to your youth leader last week.

If you didn't get yours in for some reason, be sure and contact your youth leader and let her know why you are turning it in late.

Some of our Lodge 88 folks were elected to district offices at the convention and they are: District V Director, Alfred Hilsher; Assistant Dist. V Director, Louis Hanus; Asst. By-Law Committee member, Mildred Holeman; substitute for the Publication Committee, Wanda Kennedy, Helen Hegwood was elected to the Insurance Committee and Della Kadlecek was elected as substitute. Last, but not least, Becky Smith, District V Miss SPJST of the 22nd Convention candidate, won 3rd place. Congratulations to all the winners and even to the nonwinners. I think it is a privilege and honor to even be elected a delegate to the convention. Tillie Helmcamp was the chairperson of our delegates and Lillian Finn was her assistant. Tim and Rosalee Kostom, provided a resting place for the weary conventioneers from our lodge by opening up their suite of rooms for a place to rest, chat, and eat. I hear they had many helpers and takers with their great deed. Naomi Kostom also was in their suite but Naomi is on a cruise this week. I can hardly wait for her to get back to tell us all about it.

Ruth Bartulla and Wanda Kennedy provided the refreshments for after the meeting in honor of their mother's July 4th birthday and their mom and step-dad, Mr. and Mrs. Seth Duncan's 5th wedding anniversary, July 3rd. We had another 4th of July birthday celebrant and that was Steve Kelley.

Let's not forget a great big birthday wish to America. Also Wanda celebrated her birthday July 2nd.

We would like to thank Jim and Jan Johnson for taking over the kitchen on Thursday nights while our regular kitchen group take a summer vacation. Also they have been ably helped each week by Norval and Frances Crossinan.

Thanks for keeping the kitchen open, folks. We really do appreciate your efforts.

For the June 18th Gaylen Ackley dance we had no birthdays but plenty of anniversaries and visitors: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bryson, 30 years; Mr. and Mrs. Joe, Maracik from Corpus Christi, 50 years; and Newlyweds Tommy and Sara Smith. Our visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Thaler and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mikus from San Antonio; Mr. and, Mrs. TOM Mikue from Taylor; and a group from Rice's Crossing. And last, but not least, Colonel Jack D. Hibbs from Bradstown, Kentucky.

For the June 19th Knights of Dixie dance Mr. and Mrs. Nethery celebrated 32 years together and Jean Tanner had a birthday. Our visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zellmer from Clovis, Calif„ and I'd like to wish Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fusig a special 52nd wedding anniversary congratulations.

During the July 10th Hawaiian dance, the Herman Liebschers had some special visitors: Charles Christiansen from Newport N West Virginia; Marvin and Rita Christiansen from Dallas; and James and Florence Christiansen of Houston. Charles, Marvin and James are nephews of Mr. Liebscher. I'm sure they were glad to see all their relatives.

Well, yours truly found out that she will be getting a nice birthday present in September when the lodge will have the one and only Tommy Dorsey Orchestra on Saturday, September 25th.Tickets will go on sale August 25th and I will have more information on this later. I may be a "youngster" but I like that kind of music.

Here's the line-up for the next two weeks: Thursday, July 22 — Ceramic Class from 10-2; Social Night from 8-?; Friday, July 23rd — Gaylen Ackley and The Good Times (C/1/0 dance; Saturday, July 24th—Knights of Dixie dance; Thursday, July 29 — Ceramic Classes from 10-2, Social Night, 8 p.m.; and Saturday, July 31—dance to the music of Lee Roy Matocha.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Our last lodge meeting was held Monday, July 12th, at 7:30 p.m., with President Brother Jerry Pechal presiding. Flag Bearers James Allen and Vincent Schiller led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance.

We remained standing for a moment of silent prayer in memory of Sister Anna Tyroch who passed away recently. On behalf of the lodge, I am expressing sincere sympathy to the bereaved survivors.

President Jerry Pechal welcomed all to the meeting and the visitors recognized were SL President Brother Nick A. Morris and Sister Dorothy Morris of Lodge 66, and Sister Ann Balusek of Lodge 15.

We certainly enjoyed your visiting us and hope you come again because the welcome mat is always out at Star Hall.

Secretary Sister Lillian Kosarek read the roll call of officers which revealed that Vice President Brother Alfred Klusacek was absent (vacationing at Lake Texoma), and Parliamentarian Brother Anton Motel came later. The secretary read the minutes of the last meeting and these were approved as read.

The correspondence included: Mortuary dues from the SL, a thank-you note from the family of Sister Ann Tyroch, and a thankyou from Brother Nicholas Morris for the graduation gift he received from the lodge.

Members reported on the sick list during June and until July 12th were: Brothers John Kelarek, James Ray Meek, and Joe J. Dubcak and Sister Elizabeth Jeter. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and may good health again be yours.

LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday, July 11, at the Grant Building with a good attendance.

President Frank Zabransky opened the meeting and was followed by the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. flag led by David Zak. Secretary Erwin Holy then read the minutes of the May and June meetings, which were approved.

Correspondence then followed.

Erwin. Holy, one of the delegates to the SPJST Convention in Waco, gave his report.

President Zabransky reminded the members of District VI YAD to be held in Victoria Sunday, July 18th and co-hosted by Victoria and Hallettsville Youth Clubs. The members were encouraged to attend and also to donate cakes, pies or kolache to be sold at YAD. Under new business our annual Family Day Sunday, August 8th at the Recreational Hall, was discussed and planned. It was voted on by the members to have a noon meal consisting of barbecued beef brisket and trimmings. The ladies of the lodge are asked to bring peaches, pickles, cakes, pies or kolache to be served with the noon meal. A fee will be charged as usual. Refreshments will be served.

Youth Leader Helen Zabranalsy reported that the youth are busy getting ready for YAD in Victoria and also with other activities. She announced that the youth club will have tickets on several items and games in the afternoon for Family Day. Door prizes will be given.

Refund checks were given out and the meeting adjourned.

The afternoon was spent in playing games and in conversation. Refreshments and lunch were served.

July birthdays honored were for Irene Barcak, Linda Mikush, Annie Marie Zabransky, Joe Woytek and Henry Spanihel. The winner of the birthday cake was Annie Marie Zabransky.

Door prize winners were Albina Spanihel, adult, and Mark Sevcik, youth.

Our next meeting will be our annual Family Day Sunday, August 8th, at the American Legion Hall in Hallettsville, with a noon meal consisting of barbecued beef brisket and the trimmings.

Sharon Beran read the correspondence we received from Lodge 47, Seaton, on their Bicentennial Celebration, July 25th..

B. C. Stalmach, one of our delegates to the convention, gave a brief report on the convention.

Mathew Hollin, already a member, took out additional insurance.

Our next meeting is scheduled for August 1st at 2 p.m. Note the change in time, please.

The meeting was adjourned for the members to enjoy a barbecue supper furnished by the lodge and free refreshments.

Fraternally, Sharon Beran Reporter SPJST --LODGE NO. 74, LOVEâ&#x20AC;˘ADY Dear Members: So much has taken place at our lodge in the last three weeks that I've lost account of all the things that have taken place there. The weather has been so bad for this time of the year, due to the rain, that it has been very difficult for the hay producers to make hay for their winter feed supply. I am in that same boat along with the rest of the hay producers and being a reporter for our lodge. I have not kept up with all the news, so please bear with me if I leave out some of the things that need to be reported.

Prior to the 4th of July celebration, we had a good turnout at the dance which took place June 26th, with the Crockett Westerners doing a real good job of entertaining our dancing fans. It really was a harmonious turnout for all; all the workers performed their duties

well.

July 4th truly turned out to be a wonderful time for everybody at the lodge. There was plenty of food, refreshments, music and great performances by our youth members. They have been televised on KTRE in Lufkin, together with Harry Czarnek and the Texas Dutchmen of Houston who have done a great job of, entertaining for all those who were present.

All in all, it turned out to be a wonderful day. The Crockett -Westerneers also did a good job entertaining the dancing fans later in the evening.

There was much hard work done by our faithful workers and all of us are very proud of them. At this time I will not name anyone because I am, afraid I may leave someone out.

Mr. Royce Heard, one of our social members, is in Veterans Hospital in Temple, Room 311. If anyone has time to visit with him, I am sure he would appreciate it very much. Royce is a great supporter of our Lodge 74. We all wish him a speedy recovery from his illness.

We were also very sorry to learn that one of Mr. and Mrs. James Wilcox's son's home was burned and they lost all the contents of the home.

The youth club had a cake sale with a great turnout. The cakes brought $193.35. The buyers were Brother Mat Mathews, Norma Bohn, Kevin Lorenson, Albert Heiman, Dorothy Smith and Mr. Loranee. A bed spread was auctioned off and Brother Alton Neel bought it for $45. All proceeds went to the youth club.

We had a good monthly meeting at Lodge 74. There are always questions concerning the people wanting to become social members. It was with everyone's agreement that anyone wishing to become a social member must come to the lodge meeting for an interview because the members want to hear in person the reason why he or she are not purchasing an insurance policy. Because the SPJST by-laws state that you can only become a social member if you are not insurable because of health or age.

Please inform those who want to become social members so that they can come to the meetings.

LODGE NO. 74, LOVELADT

Dear Members and Friends: I hope everyone had an enjoyable Fourth of July celebration. We have pleasant memories of a good turnout at the celebration in Lovelady at Lodge 14.

The members, friends, and guests are reporting an enjoyable time spent in witnessing a nice program and two groups of youth square dancers. We could have not asked for better entertainment.

Mrs. Webb at the piano helped so much in the performance with the young singers; there were so many songs they memorized and sang so nicely.

Food was available from noon until midnight and so much barbecue, Czech sausage, potato salad, cole slaw, green beans, baked beans, tomato and cucumber salad, plus pastries for dessert with iced tea and coffee.

The hard workers really put in long hours in preparing, serving and cleaning up in the kitchen. I should name them all but I am afraid that I do not remember the entire working crews' names and it would take up a lot of space.

I heard many compliments on the delicious barbetue which was prepared by Brother Bobalik who always makes tender and juicy barbecue. Of course, the rest of the meal had to match up with all the trimmings, including fresh vege-

11 tables and a variety of pastries.

Everyone's work and cooperation was appreciated by all the memben, I am sure.

The lodge was decorated with some extra nice tablecloths, new ash trays, flags, touch of pine cones, and pine greenery added to the special holiday celebration.

The Bafflers and Smiths worked on putting up the extra attraction around the kitchen and bandstand, including the curtains, it all looked very nice.

(During the Lions Club installation of officers, the tables were neatly arranged with vases of flowers and new tablecloths. Delicious barbecue with all the trimmings, prepared by SPJST members, was served.)

The fine music at the July 4th event was by the Texas Dutchmen and Crockett Westerneers, all afternoon in between the youth program and until midnight.

All those parents and youth leader who took part in that same program surely are highly appreciated.

Linda Michka has very litle extra time, but she made time to make the stars for all the singers and said it was not easy to help with everything for that day.

There were several beautiful cakes solid; auctlioned off, and that brought the youth club about $230. Our president is a professional on auctioning. He has done this several times by helping students sell their cakes for some worthy cause. Brother Hafner is always called upon to sing special songs during dancing and help entertain everyone who comes for an enjoyable time.

The very beautiful hanging baskets were given to the following: Brother Chester and Sister Mildred Shmoldas, the Bobalik family, the Baker family, and our family (the Michkas). Many thanks! It looks nice in our home and we appreciate it very much. Several members were recognized that day and I am sure everybody felt good for being recognized for all special efforts in good cooperation.

We enjoyed the Vrazel Polka Band Saturday, July 10th at our lodge. The Vrazels are outstanding musicians so we felt fortunate to have them. They went to Washington, D.C., (July 14-18) to play for a special performance at the Smithsonian Institute.

Now to all of you who had accidents or sickness, I am wishing all of you to get back to yourselves as soon as possible.

I was sorry to hear about Faye Campbell, who had an accident Our hope and wish is for a speedy recovery. We feel for you as much as for anyone to be handicapped in some way.

Dear Members: Everyone who plans to catch fish in Brother Sid and Sister Justine 'Pokladnik,'s water on their big farm at Ennis during the picnic, should be ready to throw in their line by 10:30 a.m. because at 1 p.m. the judging will start for the biggest, smallest and most fish caught. That's this Sunday, July 25th.

To get there, just get on III 45 going toward Houston and exit on Farm Road 85 (your cue to turn will be when you spot a telephone tower that will be on your left).

Take 85 and go under the underpass and turn right (traffic is 2way there) and stay on 85 until you get to the picnic site on the left.

No doubt some folks will not fish, so you bring your chairs and just relax; bring the dominoes if you like. There is plenty of room on the hay trailer when you climb in for a tour of the land; also volleyball, horseshoe pitching, and other games are available'. Enjoy that good barbecue that you watch being prepared right before your eyes and all the trimmings, too!

Ladies, please bring an united' cake for dessert, the cooks ask.

This one event of the year can be enjoyed by the whole family and you can also ask your good friends to join you here too, where the breeze is so cool and don't forget your hat.

July 31st the Jodie Mikula Band from Ennis is at our lodge for your dancing pleasure, so be sure to join your relatives here.

Our Bicentennial Dance, July 3, was a big success. The Hi-Toppers of New Braunfels were beautiful.

12 LADIES' CIRCLE OF LODGE NO. 92, FORT WORTH Our Circle met July 8th with quite a few members missing; vacations, gardens, and illness being the causes. Business was conducted as usual and we learned that after much effort on the part of our president, Anna Juran, we may soon have pictures of all our past lodge presidents hanging in our hall.

A decision was made to have family night Thursday, August 12, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in lieu of the morning meeting. Meat for the meal will be furnished by the Circle but members will be bringing salad, vegetable or dessert.

Contributing members and those in their home will be served at no charge. For non-contributing mem, bers and guests, there will be a charge of $1.75 and '75c for children.

Sister Agnes Wruble won the door prize and there were no birthdays this month.

We had four children visiting: Jason and Kala Proctor, nephew and niece of Tillie Gillis. and Susan and Mark Bison, grandchildren of Dona HubenalL Sister Annie Tulis was reported in St. Joseph Hospital, Room 1165, after surgery. Mary So.Mane, is recuperating from bane surgery at her home.

It was nice to have Mary and Hermina Cihacek back from their sixth trip to Europe. With their sister, Phyllis, they toured parts of the Scandinavian countries this year. Annie' and Bernice Polk flew to Chicago on a business trip and proceeded to Dayton, Ohio, to visit daughter Carol Briggs and family. They were home in time to be with their son, Lt. B. J. Polk, who Was enroute from England to Maxwell AFB in Alabama to attend special officers' school. It was an enjoyable' visit because it had been 14 months since they had seen him.

All these bits of information were exchanged following the meeting with lunch served by Sisters Mary Juran, Louise Gholdston, Frances Dalton, Frances Jaworski and your scribe.

Sunday, July llth. Lots of companionship and pleasant surroundings put all in the best of spirits and an interesting meeting followed.

With the customary procedure over the assembly voted on five new insurance applications and discussed details of a proposed plan for paving of the parking area around the lodge.

Greeting cards were signed to send to shut-in members; and we learned of the death of Elizabeth Howard's father and of the wife of General A. Green. Brother and Sister Lawrence Janecka were in a car wreck in Marlin, and Earline Askew was in HEB Hospital.

Martha Durham sent appropriate messages and dispatched a congratulatory card to Ronnie Davis, son of the Bernie Kratkys on the occasion of his graduation.

A great meal was served with Richard Sr. and Jr. and Mary Hubenak manning the kitchen along with daughter Martha Durham.

Our manager, Farmer Lamance, announced a dance to be held July 24 that should interest the younger set. Music will be rock and popular and if you don't know how to "bump and hustle," there will be an hour of free dance instructions with professionals from a local dance school teaching from 8 to 9 p.m. preceding the dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Don't stay away just because you are over 30 — you all come.

LODGE NO. 79, CORPUS CHRISTI Sunday, July 11th at 2:15 p.m., President Frank C. Sacky called the meeting of Lodge 79 to order.

We had 24 members present, including all officers.

The delegates gave a brief report of their experience and knowledge obtained at the 1976 convention held in Waco. This convention was successful in the way of improvements. Many members feel that changes are necessary to progress and strengthen our lodges.

Others may not, but we all must remember these changes are for everyone.

As the meeting advanced, we went into reading of the names of applicants: Paul Sacky — Sales Repr. Frank C. Sacky, and Don

Clifford who added another policy — Sales Repr. Jerry Elzner. Both applicants were accepted.

There was no old business but we did have something new. Our main concern for that afternoon was construction of a new building.

Currently, the Sokol and SPJST Lodge 79 are joined in one building (Sokol Hall).

The proposal is that if Lodge 79 approaches the Supreme Lodge and accepts responsibility for making a loan, Sokol Corpus Christi will donate 2.71 acres to Lodge 79. Then when the note is paid, SPJST Lodge 79 will return the donated acreage and will have certain guarantees of the new building. It was passed and both parties agreed.

Now the next step is a loan procedure. Both parties feel they can be proud of a new building and work together for what they believe in: Brotherhood and keeping the sustaining force of the Czech heritage.

Since there was no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:15 p.m.

LODGE NO. 179, WHARTON Dear Friends, We held our regular monthly meeting Friday, July 9, at 8 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by President Harold Bergmann.

A letter from President Nick A. Morris concerning the chartering ceremonies was read to the members and discussed. We decided to hold these ceremonies in conjunction with the first anniversary celebration. After the celebration date is set, a delegation will go to Temple to discuss the ceremonies.

Also discussed was the need to place more emphasis on new membership and to work harder on obtaining new members.

The youth club reported having a good time at the District I YAD at Elgin, Sunday, June 20. We had some winners come home too: Lynn Leonhardt, 1st place in food division; Jeanne Eckermann, 2nd place in sewing, and Rhonda Eckermann, 2nd place in crafts.

Before the end of the meeting, a special thanks was recognized for Brother Otto Mikeska, who donated an American flag and staff.

Mrs. Frank Faraizl, 91 of Route 4, Ennis died suddenly at her home Wednesday evening, July 7th. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m.

Friday in St. John's Catholic Church, under the direction of Keever Funeral Home, with Rev. Lawrence Haberman officiating.

DISTRICT I CAMP Dear Readers, District I camp will begin Friday, July 23rd with registration at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at 12.

Things that you need to bring to camp are: Pillow and pillowcase Sheets Towels and wash cloths Soap Toothpaste and toothbrush Swimsuit Clothes, enough to last 4 days Long pants, good walking shoes, and socks for horseback riding, plus any other personal items that you may need, but remember, the insects like the sweet smelling perfumes, powders and deodorants.

Religious services will be held at camp for those who wish to attend.

Come prepared to have a good time.

DISTRICT II CAMP To all leaders and campers attending District II Camp.

Dear Members and Readers: You are to arrive at Camp Val Verde between 9:30 and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28th. Then we will plan to leave camp at about 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, July 31, so you can figure about what time you will get home.

Items to Bring to Camp: 1. Sheets 2. Pillow (if you use one) 3. Light cover 4. Swim suit and underclothes 5. Towels and wash cloth 6. Toilet articles (soap and grooming needs) 7. Casual clothes 8. Flashlight (optional) 9. Lang pants, socks and shoes (a must if you plan to ride horses)

10. Hat or cap (for hiking and archery) 11. Change of clothes for each day 12. Comfortable shoes (2 pair is desirable) because you will walk and play quite a bit.

13. Camera (if desired) 14. Suntan lotion or bug repellent (optional) 15. Tennis racquet (if you wish to play tennis), balls furnished by the district) 16. Stereo records (optional) or some favorite dance records 17. Some money for extra soda pop (there will be morning refreshments served by the camp).

Our schedule includes swimming, horseback riding, archery (for the two older groups) crafts, some hiking for all groups, outdoor games of many varieties.

Parties are being planned for each night. At this time!, we still haven't got final plans as to what type of parties we will have, but we are going to plan some good ones. We would like for you to bring some type of clothes for a patriotic or bicentennial party.

Thursday night you may dress western if you wish and one night the teenagers who attend camp will put on a party of their choice so you never know what it will be so we all will just have to wait and see.

Wednesday night — Red, White, and Blue Thursday night — Western Friday night — Whatever the teenagers plan.

Leaders, please don't forget to make name tags for the youth of your club. I will make name tags for the\leaders and chaperones. We will have flag ceremonies twice daily and there should be a patriotic song or a poem in addition to the pledge. Each club will have 1 or 2 of these ceremonies, so plan what you will do.

The shortest way to go to Camp Val Verde is to take Hwy. 36 West out of Temple, go about 6 milels, take Hwy. 317 to the right toward Moody and go straight through Moody and on to McGregor, go to the 2nd red light in McGregor and turn right, this will be Hwy. 84 heading east toward Waco, go about 8 miles to the Val Verde exit to the left, fallow that road and when you come to a "T" turn right And then take the 2nd road to the

left and that takes you into camp.

Stop at the flag pole for further instructions.

For Lovelady Youth Club: Look at your highway map and when you get to Waco, get on Hwy. 84 that goes from Waco to McGregor, take the Val Verde exit to the right and follow instructions above.

It seems that I am running out of time this year trying to get this in the Vestnik, so I hope you will come to camp and see what else was planned within the last week.

The leaders and chaperones had a camp meeting on Monday night, July 19th, but the results will, be too late to be published so we will follow this as close as possible.

We certainly hope all of you who sent in your applications will be able to attend camp, because we have great plans for you.

A delicious meal for the banquet is in the making. The cost of a banquet ticket for children 12 years of age and under will be $1.50; all other banquet tickets will be $2.50.

The Coronation Ball will follow the banquet. All those who attended the afternoon program will receive free admission to the dance, all others will pay an admission price. Music for the Coronation Ball will be country-western music by the Flash Backs.

DIST. II YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT DAY RESULTS The YAD of District II was well attended by both youth and adults.

The youth were full of enthusiasm and they were well represented from the whole district. There we're 78 youth who participated in the Talent and royalty contest and there were 190 craft entries in the arts and craft contest. We had 3 kings and 6 queens competing in the Royalty contest.

On the district level, Lodge 20, Granger, with 24 active youth had the most entries per active youth with 90 entries, but we did not have a contest in this category as it is too hard to figure out what is the amount of active youth in each club because it changes during the year. All youth clubs, including Academy, Seaton, Austin, Taylor, Cyclone, Rockdale, Lovelady, Beyersville and Granger were very well repre'sented. We certainly missed Lodge No. 15'., Backholts, and hope they enter our contests next year.

I would like to thank the youth leaders and assistants, the district officers, district director and SYD and Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris, and several other sisters and brothers who were' so very efficient in helping to make our YAD such a great success. LODGE NO. 47, SEATON Dear Members and Friends: We held our regular monthly meeting July 12th at 7:30 p.m., instead of the regular first Sunday.

Katherine Morris called the meeting to order. She then asked Rex May to lead us in the pledge of allegiance and club motto.

Katherine Morris then thanked everyone for letting her run for District II queen. She did a good job and just about won. Thank you, Katherine.

Ellen Lucko called the roll, There were 42 members present and she read the minutes of the previous meeting, they were approved as read.

Mrs. Allen then gave the youth

leader's report. She talked about the district YAD and that she was proud of us. We talked about the Bicentennial Festival, camp, and our social for July, which will be a swimming party at the VA Pool in Temple at 4 p.m.

She also told us that the Bill Fullers gave us a $50 donation, which we appreciate very much.

Our fund-raising night will be August 13th. We received the tickets for it.

Visitors were Cindy and Debbie Skra.banek, Mrs. Kurecka and Mrs. Wilson.

Birthdays in the month of July are for Kim Stefka and Gary Hutka.

We had one new member, Christi Jo Wiggington, this month.

Door prize winners were Jodie Zavodny and Glenn Hutka.

There were many entries in YAD this year (July 11th) at Academy.

Congratulations to the youth members who participated and won.

We talked about camp, the lodge picnic, and the Princess Dance.

On July 2nd we met at our youth leader's house to pack candy and make flowers to sell at our 4th of July picnic as a money-making project.

KDE — KAM These 2 words are probably misused more than any other. We frequently hear, "Kde jde?" This is wrong. To indicate the physical action of going somewhere, the word KAM is used: Kam jdet? Kam jedes? The word KDE indicates a stationary situation, and cannot be used to indicate physical action.

Ex.: Kde to je? Kde bydlite? Kde je nadrati?, etc. And using KAM, we say the following: Kam pojedete veeer? Kam piijdete po divadle?

Kam jste po zabave? etc. All you need to remember is whether you are indicating action or not.

SEM — JSEM We call words like these homonyms; they sound the same but have entirely different meanings.

In English, some homonyms are: there, their, they're, bear, bare; and close, clothes.

SEM means "here" or 'to here", with ACTION. Ex.: Veera ptijell sem. Pojd‘ sem! Dojeli sem tt'astne. All of these involved action in coming or getting here.

JSEM means simply I am, or used with certain verbs, denotes tense, or time something happened.
