VOLUME 64, NUMBER 19

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Sunday, May 2 we attended the District VI Sales Representatives' Banquet hosted by DSR Edwin and Sister Smajstrla. It was a beautiful day 'and we were glad that we could attend since we could not be present at the District VI meeting March 28 because there were three district meetings on that same date in March. There was a nice attendance of sales representatives present and the social hour was enjoyed by all plus music by the Big Three. The meal came next and certainly was enjoyed by all. Somebody stated that you cannot reduce on meals like that. How true! Brother Smajstrla called on SFM Silas Smith to present the awards on behalf of the SPJST. Brother Smith stated that about 5 1/z million in insurance has been sold to date this year and added words of encouragement to all. District VI has sold $305,500 so far this year. Their quota is 6750,000. Awards were presented to: District Sales Champion Joe F. Naiser, Lodge 30, $371,000 insurance and a monetary award for second place in this year's pre-convention contest in the state and Brother Adolf Motal, Lodge 32, for securing the most members in District VI. He also received an award for 20 consecutive months in the. Application-a-Month Club as did Sister

Another nice enjoyable day is now history and we wish everyone well in the future. * * Fraternalism/ and Patriotism — The two go hand in hand — very much so! Yes, as early as the year 1215 when a group of fraternal nobles demanded and wrested from an unwilling and tyrannical King John at Runnymede the admission that kings, like their subjects are

accountable to the law, we have witnessed the work of fraternalistic patriots; this was known as the English Magna Carta. This year we are observing our U.S. Bi-Centennial Anniversary and the "certain inalienable rights" of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness codified in 1776 actually had their first beginnings, tentatively in 1215 at Runnymede, England. Two hundred years ago the colonists devotedly decided to put action into those statements. In 1836, one hundred and forty years ago, Texas' patriotic citizens decided that Texas should and would be free from Mexican dictatorship and about eighty years ago (in 1896) our fraternal forefathers of our fraternal SPJST Society decided that their future would be determined by themselves and not by certain dictates that were harsh and unfair to their lot here in the State of Texas. The present status of our Society attests to the fact that they made the right decision. Our SPJST will observe Flag Day at 9 a.m. Monday, June 14 (the first day of our convention). Our individual SPJST lodges are urged to observe Flag Day at 12 noon, June 14, by raising the flag at that time. * * dFrom Natl. Fraternal Congress) The 10 million members of fra-
