FEM THE EDITOR'S DESK We call your attention to the President's Pre-Convention Report in our last week's (April 14) issue, page 3, column 2 at the very bottom headed: Delegate Number. We printed it as we had received it and Brother Morris requested we change the number of delegates to 330 instead of 230 which, was a typographical error on the original report. Please take this correction into consideration. * * Our convention copy is coming in too, too slowly! Please send your articles for that issue as soon as possible. * * You will notice, in this issue, that a new lodge (No. 180) has been organized in Burleson, Texas. We certainly congratulate our newest group of members and wish them the best of luck in the future. * * The week of April 4 through 11 was indeed a very busy one for yours truly. Tuesday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 7 there were the Supreme Lodge meetings to attend, which was done both days in the afternoons. As soon as we finished the Vestnik at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10th we attended the annual meeting of Czech teachers and students at Lodge Praha No, 29, Taylor. Professor Joseph J. Skrivanek, Jr. (retired), TAMU, gave a good insight on how things stand there
with the Czech language courses. Mr. Josef N. Rostinsky, Instructor of, the Czech language at UT, Austin presented some good views, and there were speeches with divergent views. Here allow these words to be said: talk and speeches are good, however, they do not get the job done. I suggest to our interested members and readers that they contact their legislative representatives in Austin and express their views to them, asking why they did not inquire in their budget committee meetings, in the last year as to how the Czech courses were progressing at TAMU? Here we have 35 students desiring Czech and finding that it is being "phased out"! * Sunday, April 11 was the date of the District VII spring meeting which Lodge No. 133, San Antonio hosted. Considering the distance some of its members traveled to attend the meeting, it was considered they had a good attendance. The overall procedure of the business meeting was handled efficiently, including the various reports in their entirety; some of the business conversation was conducted in Czech. The highlight of the afternoon portion was the Miss SPJST competition. Connie Hrncir (117) will represent District VII at the finals during the SPJST Convention ban-
quet night in Waco. Theresa Purchis (107) was the runner-up. Congratulations to these ladies! Other entertainment was performed by the San Antonio, Czech Choral Group, under the direction of Brother Dominic Netek and was appreciated by those who listened and enjoyed promoting the Czech culture. The loyalty and the services of the elderly members of the host lodge, who turned out in good measure, is to be appreciated. It is evident they do not want to cease the fraternal spirit among the younger generations; this is commendable of them who endeavor to promote and execute their loyal support, Their cordial hospitality was indeed appreciated by everyone present. May all these efforts bring rewards to our Society in the forthcoming convention. * * It is hoped that many of you are planning to attend your district spring meeting, namely, Districts III and IV on April 25th. This being the convention year, you are urged to attend and listen to all the reports at the various levels for your information, especially so, the delegates. There are proposals to study and review and to be discussed with your respective lodge's membership before you attend the XXIInd convention, beginning June 14th in Waco. Also remember this weekend at 2 in the morning
