FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The seven SPJST district spring meetings are going to be held in the near future.

Every four years (our convention years) the spring district meeting are used, in addition to the other business matters, to select a Miss SPJST Contest contestant who will represent her respective district.

Six of the districts have officially announced the dates of their meetings and one, District I, has yet to do so.

Unfortunately, we note in the Bulletin Board Districts II and VI have the same meeting dates --Sunday, March 28, and Districts III and IV also have the same date — Sunday, April 2:th. Check the Bulletin Board for place and further information. The lodge and district youth clubs and their leaders, plus the parents, are encouraged to take part in these various activities, especially, in this our XXIInd Convention and our nation's bieentennial year! Our Miss SPJST Contest every four years is, indeed, a pleasure to witness. * * It is a ple'asure to see the inlerest and rebirth of desire of so many of our members to learn more about the language of their ant . eiors. the C:'.ech language. OVERHEARD . .

The failure of dictatorships have cost humanity far more than any temporary setback of democracy.

The true dignity of a human being is the ability to criticize oneself. * * It seems there are too many foxes charged with guarding chicken coops nowadays! * * The main reason rivers are rookerl is because they follow the path of least resistance; that is :rue of human beings, also. to the fact that people are interested in learning more about their ancestors' culture and literature, etc.

We were happy to be able to help out, yet another group, Saturday, January 31st, when a Mr. Victor L. Schmidt, and wife, Freeport, Texas, came by and visited with us for three hours and picked up the 3'2 Czech lessons from us and informed us that there will be a course in the Czech language taught, on a trial basis, at Brazosnort College there. It is encouraging to see so many of our people takin g: interest in attaining more education, regardless of whatever ;icti they enter!

Under the heading of Supreme Lodge on page 3 of this issue you

will find the announcement officially naming Brother Alfred L. Hilsher as the SPJST director for District V of our SPJST Society.

Personally, I have known Brother Hilsher for many years and certainly am glad that our Supreme Lodge has gained the valuable services of his background. He has proven to be a very successful businessman and a very sincere fraternalist and never has failed to support the SPJST and especially Lodge 88 for as l ong as I have known him. There have been some who have been active in our Society for a time and the!' •stoplied being active. Some of these have later returned to become active after a period of absence, however, not so with Brother Hilsher.

He was active in 1938 when I came to Houston and has been active since, with the exception of about 5 years -when both of us served in the armed forces during World War II. In 1947 I requested him to serve as vice preSident of Lodge 88 to-which post he was elected at the annual meeting and served in that capacity for six years. We worked very well together and I found him to be a very amiable person and very businesslike. After serving as vice president for six years, he was elected president and served in that Position for seven consecutive years and has served on committees of the lodge since, generally on the board of trustees where he serves

Ever since the districts were organized in the early 1950s, District V has been fortunate in having good directors represent it, and Brother Hilsher, with his sound business judgement and experience certainly can help in continuing to represent his district effectively and efficiently. In years past, District V generally had the largest share of loans made in our real estate department; I do not know the status at the present time, so the director there is kept rather busy. When I attended the last Supreme Lodge meeting, I was informed of the fact that Brother Hilsher was officially the director of District V, however, I chose to wait until the official announcement was made. With his fraternal temperment, he should work well in our Supreme Lodge. ♦ * Keeping our XXIInd Convention in mind, districts, lodges and members are reminded to send your by-law change recommendations to the By-Law Committee Secretary Sister Thelma Hrncir. Her address is on page 2, column 2. Time is fleeting!

• • Remember the convention issue. Send your articles as soon as possible so that we can start working on them. It takes more time than a normal issue to publish the convention issue, so we ask your cooperation.

The Hlahol Dramatic Club of Lodge 88 Houston is preparing to present the entertaining "Dye Svatby" ("Two Weddings") in March. It is a beautiful play with the setting in Slovakia. The folk songs are beautiful and melodious.

Yours truly had the pleasure to have a role in it some years ago and can assure everyone they will enjoy the plot and the songs very much There is more in the Letter Section about, this production.

LINCOLN'S BIRTHDAY

NEWSBRIEFS Rudolph Marek, 69, of Gonzales, passed away in his home on January 15th. Funeral services were held on January 16th from the Seydler-Hill Chapel with burial following in the Gonzales City Cemetery. Brother Marek had been a member of SPJST Lodge No. 57, Gonzales.

Jerry J. Mikulas, Sr, 61, died as the result of an accident on his fa m in the Seaton community east of Temple on Wednesday, January 28th. Funeral services were held from Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple an January 30th, with burial in the Seaton Cemetery. Brother IVIikulas was a member of Lodge No. 47, Seaton.

He was the father of Jerry Mikulas, Jr., who is employed in the Supreme Lodge. * * Johana (Jannie) Barton, 87, passed away in a Rosebud rest home on Wednesday, January 28th.

Funeral services were held on January 31st from the Seaton Brethren Church with burial in the Seaton Cemetery. Sister Baron was a member of Lodge 47, Seaton,

Sister Matejka was a long-time member of Lodge 94, Wheelock. * * Mrs. Terezie Dubcak, 85, of the Red Ranger community east of Temple, died in her home on February 3rd. Funeral services were held on February 5th from the Ocker Brethren Church, with burial following in the Ocker Cemetery. Sister Dubcak was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 47, Seaton.

He has been active in District V affairs and has held the office of district treasurer and president.

He has served as substitute (formerly called alternate) director of District V continuously since the XVI Convention in Houston in 1952. He was designated acting director of District V by the Supreme Lodge in its October 1975 meeting.

He is currently serving as a director of the Heights Savings Association and Republic National Bank of Houston. He is active in his own business, and in various civic and veterans organizations.

The Supreme Lodge welcomes Brother Hilsher to its ranks.

* * John Pavliska, 91, of Ploresville, passed away in a Floresville hospital on Monday, January 12th.

Funeral services wee held from Vinyard Funeral Chapel and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with burial in the Floresville Cemetery. Brother Pavliska was a long-time member of SPJST Lodge No. 107, Floresville, and was the father of William and Joe Pavliska of Floresville, and fatherin-law of Sister Maxine (William) Pavliska, District VII Youth Counselor. * * Mrs. Rudolph J. Migl, 81, of Edna, died at her residence on Friday, January 23rd. Funeral services were held on January 25th from the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Edna, with burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.

Sister Migl was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 97, Placedo.

Dear Members and Friends: The regular meeting. of Pinewood Heritage Lodge No 1'78 was called to order by President, Hugo Kocian.

The meeting was held Tuesday, January 20th I rescheduled because 01 the Super Bowl game!, at the Elderville Community Center.

Brother Ed Kamas, District III youth counselor, of Dallas, was introduced by President Kocian.

Brother Ed presented some inforMation about the Miss SPJST contest and the Reseda (the native folk dance of Czechoslovakia) and comparable to the American square dance. Later in the meeting, members voted to learn the Moravian variety of the Besetia.

Plans are being made to present this in the Bicentennial Festivities of Longview at Teague Park in April. Mr. Kamas and Mrs. Oates will bring a group from Dallas to teach those interested in learning.

Routine reports were made by Financial Secretary Marie Wiesner and Treasurer Loma Harris.

Val Steele, co-chairman of the Fund Raising Committee, made a report.

Louise Wilbur of the Cheer Committee reported sending flowers to the funeral of Mrs. John Cace.

Harry Vrana, flag bearer, presented a Texas Flag received from the office of Senator Peyton McKnight. A certificate was enclosed with the flag stating that it had been flown over the State Capitol at Austin, on January 18, 1976.

Bill Kelley, chairman of the Auditing Committee, presented the audit reports of the youth club, treasurer, financial secretary, and fund raising committee. Don Davis and Joe Howell were members of this committee.

President Kocian reported for the Building and Land Buying Committee. He was proud to announce the purchase of 10 acres of land at the corner of Farm Road 2087 and 2011 on the south side of 1-20 Brother Marvin Mikeska, Sr., was the real estate agent for the lodge. Brother Gene Hablinski made the contacts when he thpught this was a fine location for a lodge home His continued "leg work" for the committee made this purchase possible.

The Remuneration Committee — Bill Kelley, chairman, Don Davis, Bob Stevenson, Pat Harrison and Leslie Wiesner — made their recommendations. The members accepted the recommendations.

The Fund Raising Committee has 26 members.

Ray Fouse was appointed parliamentarian.

Maudine Koble was appointed to the Decorations Committee.

Linda Wiesner was named to the Calling Committee.

Mildred Wiesner was appointed historian.

Don Koble will be our photographer.

The Building Committee is composed of Bob Stevenson, Marvin Mikeska, Sr., Marvin Mikeska, Jr., Harry Vrana and Tom Krokovic.

Viola Kocian and Bernard Budnick will be assistants of the youth club.

Bill Kelley, Don Davis, and Leslie Leaton were elected to the Auditing, Committee.

The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were available.

LODGE NO. 66, WACO, OFFICERS AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Dear Members: President Ernest Zahirniak convened the regular lodge meeting at 3 p.m. on February 1st.

Jackie Zahirniak led the membership in the pledge of allegiance.

Tribute was also observed to our departed member of longstanding, Brother Frank Svoboda.

The minutes were read by Secretary Frank Cocek which were approved as read.

Next order of business was the financial report by Financial Secretary Bob Wright.

Maxine Sefcik presented the club report including activities.

The president then gave a report of the lodge's necessities. It was reported that a commercial type refrigerator was installed in the kitchen for a reasonable price, and it will serve its purpose on a large scale for future huge festivities.

It was also announced that Sister Emma Popp will be a recipient of a 50-year SPJST pin. It was suggested that the mother lodge honor our recipient in conjunction with our social following the meeting; the youth club will also play an important part for the honoree, Brother George and Sister Beanie Kacir were on an 11-day trip to Central America with the Texas Farm Bureau visiting three countries: Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Panama. Their tour of places of interest included Minflores Locks, San Blas Islands and some Mayan Indian Ruins. It was nice to see them home and attending our lodge meeting.

The members were reminded by Brother George Kacir and Brother Rudy Sefcik that the by-laws should be thoroughly looked into and discussed on the floor at our future meetings for necessary pmposals.

Mona Zahirniak won the door prize.

The date for the next monthly meeting was set for March 7th, at 3 p.m., including a social for our honoree.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON The Hlahol Dramatic Club with the cooperation of the Choral Group will present a three-act operetta entitled "Dve Svatby" or "Two Weddings" on the afternoon of the 14th of March. The cast is composed of excellent players and singers, so you are in for a rare treat on that day while you watch the performers and see the beautiful Slovak costumes and hear the melodius tunes played by Professor Halama on his Stradivarius violin.

We are indeed fortunate in having Professor Halama as our guest artist; he has studied in the finest schools in Europe and therefore has a knowledgeable and cultural background of music.

Youth members Delores Dobecka, Tammy Mynar and Stephanie Mynar led the membership in reciting the pledge of allegiance to the American flag. Delores then recited the SPJST pledge.

port, Sister Schuetz said the youth would have volleyball practices on February 13, 20, and 21, at 6 p.m. at the Dunbar gym. A Valentine party at the hall will follow volleyball practice on the 13th. On February 20, there will be no social at the hall, because the hall has been rented for this night. A social will be held after practice on February 27. The youth will go to the rest home on February 11, and they will be taking Valentines to the residents. The youth will have a kite flying contest at the March meeting, so everyone get your kites ready.

Fraternally, Pat Wachsmann Reporter — SPJST — LODGE NO. 74, LOVELADY Dear Members: Again we had a most delightful dance on January 31st with fine music which was provided by Ted Harden and The New Sounds to an enjoyable attendance from near and far away places. Some of our members and- guests were attending their first dance at our lodge and some of these folks told me they could not expect anything better and that they are glad they joined our wonderful SPJST Society. Among some of the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barns from Centerville (36 miles from the lodge). Other members who have joined our lodge live as far away as Houston.

During the above - mentioned dance, we again had the faithful members in charge of their duties. They were Mary Beam at the ticket booth; Mr. and Mrs. Parrish assisted wherever needed; jirrito Hafner, Erma Marsh, Jerry Michka, Billy Bobalik and Larry Nelson worked in the refreshment room. All in all, everyone was anxious to assist wherever help was needed. Deputy Gene Mericle, saw to it that everyone at the dance

9 enjoyed themselves in the best of harmony.

Ray Michka, who has been in the hospital for a long time, was back on the dance floor enjoying himself.

Brother Hayford Crowson has undergone an operation; he is in the Bellaire General Hospital in Houston. We were informed, and were sorry to hear, that Sister Faye Fowler is in the Methodist Hospital; also that Snuffie Spinks, an employee of Alaska Oil Co., was in a helicopter crash in Alaska, recently. (Sister Faye Fowler and Brother Snuffie Spinks tare both members of the lodge). I was also informed that Sister Leta Mae Langham has been ill and in the hospital. We wish all these fine members a speedy recovery.

Jammie Easterly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Easterly, was our guest.

Jammie is a coach for the Atlanta, Georgia, Braves.

The youth clUb has their meetings on the first Thursday of the month, and socials on the third Thursday. Be sure, all of you youth club members, to be present for the meetings and socials.

Brother Jerry Michka has volunteered to take the vice president's position at the lodge. We are looking forward to all the members performing their duties to the best of their abilities for the betterment of our lodge, after all, it is your lodge, so take care of it.

Meeting dates for 1976 are April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Maxie Kulhanek home of Waller, and July 23 and October 22 ( no definite time or location set for the July and October meetings).

Cheryl Gaydosik then gave us a -brief report on the previous November meeting and the recent transfers and new members.

Next order of business was the election of a delegate and alternate delegate to state convention in Waco and they are Joseph Musil and Emil Gaydosik, respectively.

It was decided that we would transfer the lodge's funds from the Wailer bank to the Brookshire bank.

Mrs. Evelyn Mikeska then installed the new officers and Mr. Musil presided over the meeting.

Each member present was given names of members who were not present to call and remind them of the next meeting.

There was no other business so the meeting was then adjourned.

REPORTS DISTRICT III SALES REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORT The year 1975 set a new record in sales for SPJST. Under the capable leadership of Vice President Joe B. Hejny, assisted by State Field Manager Silas Smith, our total sales amounted to over 15 million dollars worth of insurance sold last year. It is very comforting to know that all seven districts made their quotas.

Here in District III, we are not as fortunate as some of the districts that have million-dollar or half-a-million-dollar producers. In fact, we do not have a quartermillion producer. We make ours the hard way. This is, in small amounts. That is the reason that

DENISE BANIK DAR SELECTS MISS BANIK FOR CITIZENSHIP AWARD The Henry Downs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has named Miss Denise Banik, a senior at West High School, as a recipient of its Citizenship Award.

Miss Banik's selection was announced at the chapter's January meeting. Seven area students won good citizenship honors, along with Miss Banik, but she will represent the district in state competition

12 this spring.

The award is based on a completed questionnaire, scholastic record and recommendations based on leadership, personality, selfcontrol, ability to assume responsibility, dependability, truthfulness, loyalty and personality. Also considered are service, patriotism and unselfish interest in family, school community and nation.

Denise is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Banik of Route 1, West. Denise is secretary of the student council, vice president of the National Honor Society and secretary of the West High Sweepstakes Marching Band. Denise plans to attend McLennan Community College in the fall.

Denise, her parents and brothers and sisters are members of Lodge 35, Elk. Denise was District III Queen in 1974-75 and is now serving as president of the District III Youth Club.

CONVERSATIONAL CZECH CLASS AT SAN JACINTO COLLEGE' For the past several school terms it has been my pleasure to write about classes in Conversational Czech. On January 19th, 1976 the turnout for registration at San Jacinto College at Pasadena, Texas, was beyond expectation.

That was the initial meeting scheduled for each Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. for a term of ten weeks.

Lodge No 172 SPJST, Pasadena, was motivated in this activity by members Joe and Vlasta Machann and Victor and Lillia. Mae Peter.

The Class had to move into a larger room to accommodate the enrollment. The 31 enrollees should form the greatest number allowable. If more appear, that will pose another problem, but we are equal to the occasion.

San Jacinto College has in excess of 11,000 students on its three campuses. Our classroom is large, well lighted, with all the necessary items for modern teaching methods. The campus layout with its modern air-conditioned masonry building offer a wonderful study atmosphere.

Average age of the students is approximately 40, but there is a preponderance of younger individuals who also want to study the culture, history, and the interesting facts of their ancestral homeland. Using a much-abused ex-

pression, everyone takes to the learning "like a duck takes to water." The two-hour period ends with groups remaining to chat, reminisce and compare backgrounds. At that time other classrooms are much past dismissal, so it's necessary to switch off the lights. The consensus is, "Why didn't we start these classes years ago?"

All of us at San Jacinto College send our greetings with the wish that our enthusiasm is contagious throughout the great state of Texas.

YOUTH SECTION Dear Members and Everyone Concerned: The following are the rules for the corning Miss SPJST Contest, which will have its climax at the coming convention in June. There are a few changes that have been recommended by the seven District Youth Cotthselore and acted upon by the Supreme Lodge in their recent meeting. Please keep these rules handy and refer to them in the coming Months If there are

(Mrs.) Dorothy Massey State Youth Director * 1976 RULES MISS SPJST CONTEST AGE: Any SPJST female member at least 16 and no older than 20 as of January 1, 1976.

MARITAL STATUS: Single thru the time of the '76 Convention Cbronation.

MEMBERSHIP: A member of SPJST at least 6 months prior to lodge candidate selection.

ATTIRE: Long formal in Speech Contest and Coronation (District and State).

SELECTION: Lodge: By fair method decided upon by the lodge youth leader with lodge approval OR by lodge membership if there isn't a youth leader. One candidate from each lodge, who has never held the title of "Miss SPJST" may compete on the district level.

District: Competition will be at each district's spring meeting (unless district desires a separate date) but not later than May 1st, 1976.

The District Youth Counselor will arrange selection of at least 3 judges. The district competition will be in two separate contests: TALENT: (of their own choice) Time limit: 3 minutes. Judged on: Stage Presence — — 25 pts.

Technique Skill — Rendition 30 pts.

Originality — — 10 pts.

The candidate with the highest total points from both contests shall represent the district at the convention. In case of a tie for first place, the two contestants who tied will present their speeches again for the judges.

State: The seven finalists shall compete in three contests to determine "Miss SPJST." The corn-

The judges for the three con vention contests will be selected by the host lodge(s), Suprenie Lodge President and State Youth Director.

PRIZES AND REIMBURSEMENT: All finalists will each receive a wrist watch and an allowance of $100 for the period spent at the convention for herself and one chaperone. In addition, each will be furnished a banquet ticket, plus one for a chaperone. Mileage will be paid to the Waco Convention Center and return home for one vehicle at the rate set by the con vention. The winner will receive a scholarship of $500, which will be paid to the college, university, trade or business schdol of the winner's choice whenever she chooses to use it, and the title "Miss SPJST" for the duration of the convention.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY: An autobiography of each candidate will be submitted to the District Youth Counselor et least 15 days prior to the district competition, along with a recent photo.

These forms may be secured from the local lodge youth leader, and in those lodges where there is no, youth leader, they will be sent on request from the State Youth Di rector (Each DYC will send picture and form to the State Youth Director no later than May 10th, 1976).

TABULATION: Tabulation of the convention contests will be conducted by a special committee of four selected by the president of the Supreme Lodge and the State Youth Director. Following each contest, the judges' results will be placed in a special envelope by the State Youth Director and sealed until opened by the Tabulating Committee.

LODGE NO. 117, ROBSTO N Dear Readers: The Rabstown Youth Club began the new year with a skating party at Skateland-West, Corpus Christi, on January 10th. The party was attended by a nice group of members and friends who also received a free skating lesson on backward skating. Then, on January'24th, we had our regular monthly meeting combined with a craft display.

Each member brought a handmade craft and told how the item was made. The prize for the most unique craft, a cross-bow, went to Curtis Perkins.

Prizes were also awarded to Valerie Pattillo for making the most original Christmas tree ornament for the Community Christmas Tree and to Matthew Foerster for collecting the most Campbell's soup labels. Members are also saving foreign stamps to be sent to a Veterans Rehabilitation Center.

This project will run through May. Members planned a Valentine party to be held at the Jackson

Woods Club House on Febrtrary 14th. Members divided into three working committees: entertainment, decorationl, and refreshments. A lively evening of fun appears to be in the making.

Mrs. Agnes Hrncir donated $10 to the Bus Fund for which the club is most grateful. Continuing expenses such as bus insurance and new 1976 license plates make our club always looking for moneymaking projects. Each member who has made $20 for the club in the past two years will receive a free bus ride to Astro World the last of April. Everyone else will be asked to donate $10 to the Bus Fund.

Due to the resignation of our president, Dena Rychetsky was installed at our November meeting as our new president and Nancy 'Tschoerner as vice president. Dena has appointed new committees to serve out the rest of the club year.

I want to thank Mrs. James Krenek for the very impressive talk she made to the youth club.

Mrs. Krenek talked about the birth of our country 200 years ago. Her speech was very interesting.

We discussed craft work at this meeting and talked about getting ready for YAD. In case some of you mothers don't know what YAD is maybe I can explain a bit. YAD stands for Youth Achievement Day. Each year in June, our district has a YAD and all the youth come to this district YAD to display any craft or participate in any talent they might be good at The youth should start (if they haven't already) now to make something on their own.

It can be anything such as pictorial arts, science and educational, hobby kits, handicraft or foods. If they enter talent they should start to practice so they will be extra good by dune.

The youth are judged by their age groups and the prizes are cash.

For each thing entered they are also given cash awards just for entering. They are allowed to enter four of the above categories I have mentioned.

This is a very important day for all youth and you mothers can do a big part by encouraging your children to make something on their own.

I want to thank you mothers and grandmothers who made sweets for our bake sale and anyone else who purchased goods at our bake sale. We are trying to raise enough money to go to Six Flags this summer.

I forgot to mention, at our last ;meeting, that we will have a Valentine contest at our meeting on the 15th of February. Anyone interested in participating should make a Valentine all on your own and bring it to this meeting. It can be any size but remember it will be judged, so do your best.

There will be a prize for the best Valentine.

Rusty Bay won our door prize at our January meeting.

Letters From The Youth LODGE NO. 66, WACO Dear Readers, On Saturday, January 17th, a number of our youth participated in the annual March of Dimes Walkathon. The walk was a 20mile route which started at Fort Fisher Park and returned. Our youth club sponsored the members who participated for a pledge of 5c per mile. Congratulations to all who gave their time to this cause and succeeded.

This is just a reminder for all of the youth to bring their decorated Valentine cards and boxes to the February meeting. These will be presented as gifts for our games.

Dear Members, At our last meeting, January 14, we discussed making decorations for the lodge entrance, kitchen, stage and bar for the month of February. All youth club members are reminded to bring their scissors and other necessary items to our next lodge meeting.

The youth club went to see the movie "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams," as our social for this month. We all enjoy it as did our chaperones. Thanks for taking us and for the refreshments.

The mother lodge donated $181.50 to the youth club. Thank you, and be assured that we will use it wisely.

We didn't have as many as we would have liked to have had for the clean-up night on January 26, however, we all pitched in and did our share. Those youths who did help received points.

Dear Vestnik Readers, The Talton SPJST Youth Club held their regular monthly meeting February 1, at 2:30 p.m. at the Talton Community Center.

President Glenn Kahanek called the meeting to order. The pledge

15 was led by Pat Krpec, and the prayer was led by Sherrie Krpec.

We had 16 guests and one new member, Rudy Lightcap.

Under unfinished business we discussed our District VI meeting.

There was no new business.

Our guest speaker was District Youth Counselor Mrs, Frank Brdecka.

The president of the adult lodge, Miss Mary Mrnustik, presented our youth club with a check for $25.

Mrs. Frank Brdecka showed us how to make Easter bunnies for craft. Some of the members made Valentines for the senior citizens at the home.

Then Mrs. Frank Brdecka was asked to judge our Valentine contest. The winners were, ages 0-11, 1st place — Russell Zboril; 2nd — Mark Krpec; 3rd — Vicki Dorotik.

Ages 12-17: 1st — Clara Dorotik; 2nd — Jerome Dorotik; and 3rd — Glenn Kahanek.

Door prize winners were Jennifer Dluhos, Marcy Dorotik, Vicki Doratik, Brian Krutilek, Kurt Yockel, and Rudy Lightcap.

Refreshments, consisting of Rice Krispy treats, cake, cup cakes, and punch, were served.

Jimmy Zahirniak and Troy Gerik (dressed in their boy scout uniforms) presented the colors. The pledge of allegiance followed which was led by Jackie Zahirniak.

Roll call revealed 33 members, 3 visitors and 2 adults present.

Our chairperson asked to dispense with the minutes of the January meeting because we wanted to allow time for our district youth counselor who was among our visitors. The request was approved.

Congratulations, Chip! We gained a member, Dereck Scott, who transferred from another lodge into our youth club. Welcome, Dereck, and we are glad to have you in our club!

Concerning new business, we discussed the March social — a homemade ice cream party. I would also like to mention that Denise Haberl will be our contestant or candidate for the Miss SPJST Contest during the District III spring meeting at Lodge No. 154, Fort Worth. We are very happy for her interest and participation. Also, our youth club will help honor one of our 50year members, Mrs. Emma Popp of West, after the mother lodge meeting on Sunday, March 7th.

After the main portion of the business meeting, the president turned the meeting to Mrs. Maxine Sefcik. She recognized and welcomed Mr. Ed Kamas from Dallas who is our District III youth counselor. He complimented the youth leaders and youth club members for their interest displayed in the lodge, and then he referred to the spring district youth activities which are in the planning stage.

We thanked him for his visit and asked him to stay for our social.

February celebrants included Donna Pustejovsky, Delaine Wolf and John Mitchell.

The president adjourned the meeting until for Maaph 10th which will include a social at 7 p.m.

Make a notation of this date and be there again for a fun-filled evening.

Our social for this month consisted of a decorated Happy Birthday cake donated by Mrs. Mona Zahirniak, Valentine cookies and candy by Mrs. Maxine Sefcik, and the youth club furnished the drinks.

I also want to remind you that those of you who do not pay your dues in advance are asked to please pay your dues each month before or after the meeting. We have a good current list of dues-paying club members, so let's keep it this way!

LODGE NO. 54, WEST Dear Members, The youth club of our lodge held a very good basketball game at the Dunbar Gym in West on January 14th. There was a good turnout and the weather was ideal for a basketball game. It was a lot of fun to see some of the parents playing with the mixed-age groups.

We want to thank Mr. Bob Wright for coaching our teams that night. He did a fine job and it wasn't hard for him to coach because he coaches at West Elementary. We also want to thank the mothers who showed us a good time and for helping us raise money at the concession stand that night. A good profit was turned in to our treasury.

Some of us feel that we should have another basketball game in the future whenever the gym is not so busy with school and other activities.

In our meetings, we discussed a lot of old and new business, also hold lots of activities. Don't miss out on the meetings because you will regret missing out on the activities, too. I try to have a perfect attendance record at our meetings just as I do at school.

We made Dereck Scott welcome at our last meeting. He is my neighbor and I am glad that he enjoyed his first meeting and social at our lodge. He also wanted to know when the next one would be held. EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the members of SPJST Lodge No. 50, El Campo, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family of our departed lodge sister, MRS. EMIL (OLGA) YOCKEY, a native of Wharton County, Texas, who passed away at Caney Valley Memorial Hospital in Wharton on January 23, 1976.

Sister Yockey was born near El Campo on December 1, 1902' and she attained the age of 73 years.

She is survived by her husband, Emil, of Pierce; two daughters, Jeannette Yockey of Pierce and the late Leona Morgan of Lake Jackson, who died four months ago; two grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren who also survive, also, Mrs. Roy Barr and Mrs. Jesse Bodungen, both of El Campo; including four brothers, Leonard and Logic Tobola, both of El Campo, Edmund Tobola of Canyon Lake, Texas, and William Tobola of Wallis.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. January 25, at the First Presbyterian Church in El Campo with Rev. Jim McCall and Rev. Lloyd Nixon officiating. Interment was in the Oaklawn Memorial Park in El Campo.

EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 29, Taylor, in behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to

the family of our departed lodge sister, MRS. ROLAND (ANNIE) BLOM, who passed away in the John's Community Hospital in Taylor at the, age of 68 years.

Sister Blom was born July 18, 1907 in Czechoslovakia and had lived in Round Rock for the past 20 years.

She was a member of the Palm Valley Lutheran Church of Round Rock and SPJST Lodge No. 29, Taylor.

On April 10, 1956, she married Roland Blom, who survives. She is also survived by one brother, Frank Svrcina of Granger.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. in the Palm Valley Lutheran Church with the Rev. Oliver Berglund officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Morris Noren, Bert Johnson, Thure Dahl, Marvin Kokes, Gene Telhan, and Rudolph Chovanec.

Resolution Committee: Michael Kaiser Jerry TaIlas Herbert Riethmeyer EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY In behalf of our membership of Lodge No 18, Elgin, we wish to express our sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed lodge brother, CHARLIE MOGONYE, SR., who died Monday, December 29, 1975 in the Elgin Hospital at the age of 78.

Brother Mogonye was a. farmer and rancher until his retirement three years prior to his death. He served in World War I as a private in the infantry and was proud of this service. He was wounded in action by machine gun fire while serving in France.

Funeral services were held on December 31, 1975 at 2 p.m. in the Newby Funeral Chapel followed by interment in the Elgin Cemetery.

Reverend A. M. Hannemann, minister of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, conducted the services. He was assisted by Reverend Herman Engeling, a former pastor of that church and Reverend John Platt, of Memorial Methodist of Austin.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 26, 1976 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Pleasanton, with Rev. Thomas O'Brien officiating. Rosary was recited Sunday, January 25th, at 7 p.m. in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at St Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Pleasanton.

Besides her parents and husband, Sister Mary Kathryn is survived by a son, Robert Wayne Jaksik and a daughter, Sandra K. Jaksik, both of Pleasanton; one brother, Louis Kubala and two sisters, Barbara and Patricia Kubala, all of Corpus Christi.
