HIM THE EDITOR'S DESH Our XXIInd Convention is rapidly approaching and, in this issue, on page 3, are some more recommendations for changes in our SPJST By-Laws sent -n by By-Law Committee Secretary Sister Thelma Hrncir. You are advised to read and meditate on these proposals; discuss them in your meetings and with your membership. Our SPJST Society is founded on democratic principles, fashioned after our U.S. Constitution, where each member's voice is supposed to carry some weight and significance. Let us, at this convention, correct anything in our by-laws that we find contrary to the principles of our Society. Let us do all that is in our power to have fair and just by-laws that will serve us and our Society well during the next four years. It is certainly to be appreciated that our lodges and members are taking time to study the changes which should be made and submitting them to the By-Law: Committee, whether they are acceped or not — that shows there is interest in what is taking place and these members are becoming involved, as ALL should be! * (Next By-Law Committee Meeting Saturday, January 31, 1976) * * In the July 23rd, 1975, issue of our Vestnik, front page, 3rd column, near the bottom, I made the statement.: Everything costs more to-
NOW If you have hard work to do, Do it now. Today the skies are clear and blue, Tomorrow clouds may come in view Yesterday is not for you; Do it now. If you have a song to sing, Sing it now. Let the tones of zladness ring Clear as song of bird in spring. Let every day some music bring; Sing it now. If you have kind words to say, Say them now. Tomorrow may not come your way, Do a kindness while you may; Loved ones will not always stay; Say them now. If you have a smile to show, Show it now. Make hearts happy, roses grow, Let the friends around you know The love you have before they go; Show it now. day, so naturally, the directors should examine every phase of our Society's operations. In the same issue, pages 4 and 5, there was the report for the first six months of 1975 of our income and expense which was submitted by our directors, with an additional report signed for the directors by District I Director John A. Kubena. If we subtract the youth program expenses of $39,125.10, and the
Vestniir. expenses, $43,335.85, (a total of $82,460.95) from their total of $967,856.46 (page 5), we have a total of $885,395.51 left which amounts to the expense of operating our Supreme Lodge business itself, and that is no small amount for six months; the youth program and the Vestnik are a rather small amount, of the overall expense. Now back to the quote about every thing costing more, etc. If we look at the August 4, 1974 issue, page 17, we find that our Society's expenses for the first six months of 1974 were $897,919.29 and this year they were $967,835.46, as stated. That is an increase of 869,937.17 — almost $70,000 increase in one year! Before the 1972 Convention a number of members called attention to the fact that they would like to know what each department of our SPJST is costing our Society, including the expenses of each of the seven directors, and those reports to be made in our Vestnik two months prior to our convention. (That issue should be the Apri l 14 1976 issue according to our by- laws . Our delegates and entire membership would definitely gain much information from such reports and our Remunerations Committee would also be better guided in their deliberations. It is to be understood, of course, that items such
