GEditar COMMENTS State Royalty YAD, SATURDAY, Sept. 27, 1975, at Lodge 80, Rolland. * * This is our last opportunity to again, remind our readers that, by the time our next issue is published, our 1975 SPJST State Royalty YAD will be history and, therefore, we urge our readers to do their utmost to try to attend it at Lodge No. 80, Holland, on Saturday, September 27th. Remember, it is on Saturday this year for the first time. We had the pleasure and privilege of witnessing six of the royalty performances and are printing the photo we just received of District VII Royalty from Sister Polly Bayer, in this issue. We regret we did not receive it at the time the rest of the district writeups arrived and were published.

District VII was the YAD we didn't attend. The best of luck to all contestants is wished for all candidates in Holland by all of us! The competition will be very keen, you can be sure. Keep your poise and practice hard; you won't regret it. Yours truly will never forget what he learned in the public speaking course in Dayton High School. The teacher was wonderful; her name was Violet Yvonne Hanna. * * When we speak of by-laws, we would like to print Article 6, section (a): "Lodges failing to comply 'with all required duties and obligations before the 25th day of the month preceding the convention lose their right to representation at convention."

The last sentence of Article 93 reads: Each lodge will submit its by-laws, if any, within 60 days of their annual meeting to the Supreme Lodge."

By-laws, in this case, of course, means rules and regulations, and there was quite some discussion on this last sentence, pro and con, at the convention. The question arises as to how many lodges have actually complied with this restrictive article thus far. We k from letters in the Vestnik, that a

large number of lodges reconsider and change their rules and regulaMons at each annual meeting.

Your editor was against this additional sentence and stipulation, however, not being a delegate, I could not debate the article.

How many lodges have complied and/or will they lose representation if they have NOT? This additional requirement definitely should be answered, discussed and reconsidered at the coming convention. Why have restrictive passages which some lodges may overlook, without intending to do so?

Frankly, 'Article 6, section (a) is rather ambiguous; one wonders how many lodges (officers and members) are actually acquainted and familiar with, quote: "all required duties and obligations."!

We would also like to quote Article 46, section (d): "Every issue shall publish the addresses of the members of the Supreme Lodge, of the Publication Committee, and of the president and secretary of the committee on by-laws." That, of course, consists of the first two columns on page 2, every issue.

Our recommendations pertaining to this section would be once a month. The feeling is that this would be adequate and the space saved could be otherwise utilized.

Adolph Kubitza, 82, of Axtell, died Wednesday morning., September 10 in his home. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in Littlepage Funeral Home Chapel in Mart, with Honorary SL President Edward L. Marek officiating Burial followed in the Pavelka Cemetery. Brother Kubitza was a member of Lodge No. 35, Elk. Zavodny-Sula Reunion Sunday, Sept. 28th at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Parish Hall in Marak, 5 miles NW of Cameron on Farm Rd. 2269. Registration 10 am.

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE Filling a Vacancy Dear Members and Delegates of District IV: Your representative to the ByLaw Committee, Brother B. W. Pa y -licek,rntyesigdfromtha committee. You will recall that in the last convention you elected Sister Pat Lawrence as his substitute. Because of her duties with the State Office of the KJZT in Austin she has also submitted her resignation as the substitute member to the By-Law Committee.

Article 14(b) of our by-laws states that: "In the event that neither the elected member nor his substitute can serve on the committee, the district delegates from the preceding convention shall elect another member from the district membership to serve on the committee."

This leaves the responsibility of electing a replacement and substitute up to the district delegates to the last convention, however, it

does not spell out the exact method of how this is to be done. Another problem is that the delegates from your district would need to know who might be available and interested in serving on the By-Law Committee. We have never had a situation quite like this so we do not have a precedent to go by.

I feel that it is up to your district president, Brother Arthur Lisso of Rowena, to determine, along with his other district officers, the method by which a replacement and substitute to the By-Law Committee will be elected.

This should be done reasonably soon, with notification to the Supreme Lodge and to the chairman and secretary of the. By-Law Committee.

The purpose of this notice is simply to let the district know that there is a vacancy on this committee and for some of you to make known your wishes and sentiments to your delegates. The Choral Group is to resume rehearsals on Tuesday, September 16th at 7:30 p.m.

District Youth Counselor Marlene Caraway thanked everyone who attended State YAD in Temple. The Beseda group from our lodge placed first and also Sister Carla Adams placed first in talent and Brother Jimmy Griffin placed first in crafts. Also, the youth club of Lodge No. 88 was announced as one of the top 10 youth clubs in the state.

District Sales Representative Evelyn Mikeska announced f that the sales representatives will have a meeting on September 29th, at 7:30 p.m. at the lodge.

Youth Leader Louise Knapick announced past and upcoming youth activities and reminded the members to attend the youth club presentation of the "Wornanless Wedding" on September 14th.

Historian Frances Olexa presented the members with an interesting and informative history of our lodge covering the years 1923 through 1927. In addition, Sister Olexa announced that the Birthday Club Sisters will be chartering a bus to Temple on September 24.

The following brothers and sisters were appointed to serve on the Rules and Regulations Conunittee: Frank Sernbera, Viola Cox, Harriette Allison, Frank Tymel and Steve Kelly.

It was announced that next month the members will elect the Remuneration Committee and the Screening Committee that will contact all members eligible to serve as delegates.

A discussion was then held concerning an appreciation night for Brother Ernest Hanka to thank him for his many contributions to our lodge. The date and other details will be announced in the near future.

4 more questions have come to my attention from individuals and in some of the lodge meetings I have attended recently. The following are some of them: Q. What about a lodge that has no members who are eligible as delegates under the by-laws?

A. I hope and feel there are very few lodges in this category. Should this be the case however, it would be unfortunate because such lodges simply will not be able to send delegates to the convention. As stated previously, this by-law has been on the books and in effect since 1 January 1973, so it is something that all lodges should have been aware of for some time.

Q. My lodge elects their delegates in the month of November. How do we figure the majority for this year?

A. Very simple. The by-law requires the member to attend a majority of the meetings during each of the three years preceding the election of delegates. so, you simply follow through for 19'75 just as you did for 1973 and 1974. A majority of 11 meetings is 6, since you obviously cannot count the meeting of December that will not have been held yet. (We have to assume that by "year" the last convention meant from January 1 to January 1).

Q. I transferred from one lodge to another recently. Am I eligible to be elected as a delegate?

A. You are eligible under the provisions of Art. 4(d)3 of the bylaws.

Q. What if a lodge is organized during the year of the convention?

Are they entitled to elect delegates to this convention?

A. Yes, under the provisions of Art, 4(b).

Q. If a member did not become active in the local lodge until 1974 and 1975, is he eligible to be elected a delegate, or say he was ill during this time and could not attend meetings?

A. The by-law states three years prior to the election of delegates.

And this: To those lodges that were organized less than three years ago, or those which had been in existence longer than that but which became active less than three years ago after a period of dormancy, I would suggest electing your delegates and then letting the convention delegates pass on

:iii LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Brothers and Sisters: The September meeting was called to order by President Louis Hanus at 7:30 p.m. on September 8, 1975. Brother Billy Burford presented the colors and led the members in reciting the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

The minutes of the meeting for the month of August were read and approved by the membership.

Tribute was paid to these departed members: Brothers and Sisters Pauline Kratina, Carl Pavaloch, Albina Poenitzsch, Henry Adamek and Stacy Fluellen.

Correspondence was acknowdfrom the family of Pauline K lerdagteina.

Brothers L. A. Dobesh and Jet. Walkoviak and Sister Mary Orlando were reported on the sick list.

President Hanus then presented an idea to the members of assembling a documentary film in sound and color of events at our lodge, to begin with Czech Day on October 26.

Initiation of new members took place at the direction of President Hanus. Sisters Pearl Hanka and Mary Tilich registered the new members. The following brothers and sisters were initiated: Bill Barton, Mrs. William A. Barton, Florena Taake, G. Taake, Margaret Stephens, Tom Stephens, Barbara Taake, Steven Taake, Nancy Marek, M. Farek, Mary Going and Phil Going.

Favorable financial reports were presentedon behalf of the various committees.

Fraternally, Fraeces E. Vala, Secretary — SPJST — LODGE NO. 135, ENNIS Dear Vestnik Readers: SPJST Lodge No. 135 members of Ennis held their annual dinner September 14th. The stew was furnished by the lodge and everyone brought a dish and a pastry.

After the delicious meal was served, a short meeting was held.

At this time President Tom Valek introduced the officers of Lodge 135 and special guests. Special guests included officers of the Sokol, officers of the local WFLA. lodge, SPJST District III Director Sid Poidadnik and Mrs. Justine Poldadnik, and Mr. Jerry Koubek of Dallas.

The youth club conducted a cake walk and ticket sale from which the club made a sizeable profit, due to the generosity of the members who participated. The two pillow prizes that were given away were crocheted and donated by Mrs. Tom Valek, Sr. Sister Sadie Kubin and Brother Raymond Taraba, each won a pillow.

Sister Sylvia Laznovsky showed slides and movies of some of her recent trips to foreign countries.

On behalf of the officers and members of Lodge 135, we want to thank Sister Laznovsky for providing this entertainment. We also want to thank all the ladies who worked so hard to prepare the delicious stew.

Our next meeting was changed from the second Sunday in October to the third Sunday, October 19th; this was due to the fact that Czech Day at the fair will be held on October 12th.

VESTNtK LODGE NO. 172, PASADENA

Dear Members and Friends: Our regular meeting was held on September 10th, at 7:30 p.m. at the lodge on 911 East Shaw Street in Pasadena. Shaw Street runs parallel to the Pasadena Freeway.

When coming east (from Houston), you exit at the Tatar Street exit and Red Bluff exit and go under (left) and left again on Shaw only far enough to park your car.

The lodge is right off the freeway, so please dan't miss it.

I am writing to many of our Lodge 172 members whom I have not seen at our lodge recently — some may have forgotten how to get there — whatever your reason, don't stay away any longer. Come out at least once in awhile. We have an enjoyable social hour after each meeting. Sister Klecka always has a delicious pastry and good coffee to serve. All other drinks are available and it is all on the house. All you need to do is come and join us.

Our last meeting was a short one.

We did not have much to do. We enjoyed our visitor, Brother A. L. Hilsher, from Lodge 88. He came especially to invite us to the District V meeting at Lodge 88 on October. 5th and to urge us not to forget about it. All members of our lodge and other ledges are invited to the District V meeting.

Sounds like a good time is in store for everyone. They are serving a barbecue dinner for $2.00 a plate, at noon. The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. Immediately after the meeting, there will be free dancing.

There will be three bands furnishing the music. Personally, I expect the ballroom to be packed.

Our district meetings keep us informed on happenings and activities in our district. It is always a pleasure to have someone from the Supreme Lodge and the editor of the Vestnik to bring us messages and reports informing us of matters pertaining to our SPJST. So often we don't take time to tell our leaders that we appreciate them and the work they are doing.

Here is hoping to see many of you at the district meeting on Sunday, October 5th, at Lodge 88. Also, we hope that those of you on the sick list are doing fine.

A Czech film,"Seven Days to Remember," will be shown, A free dance will follow this eventful afternoon. Lee Roy Matocha will play for the dance.

A turkey dinner will be served, beginning at 11 a.m.; the cost of the dinner will be $2 for adults, and $1.25 for children.

I hope to see all of you at our Czech Day Celebration on October 26th. The program will begin at 2 p.m.

LODGE NO. 117, ROBSTOWN Dear Members: Time has come again for our quarterly meeting and the date is set for Sunday, September 28, 1975 at 2;30 p.m. The meeting is to be held in the home of Secretary Helen Pavelka, which is 3 miles north of Robstown on FM Road 1889. Members are urged to attend.

We hope to have better attendance than in the past, so come and see what goes on in the meeting. After the meeting we will have the social hour where we can visit and have

a snack to eat and something to drink. For this the ladies are asked to please bring some goodies to eat, as usual; the hostesses wilt have coffee and other refreshments.

Guests are always welcome.

The harvest is virtually over, and what little cotton is left in the fields probably will not be good because it has been raining since sometime in August. There has been no field work done because of wet grounds. As this letter is being written it has been showering off and on all day making wet fields even wetter. The harvest over all turned out fairly good this year, a good average for the maize and the cotton is averaging about 3/4 to 1 bale per acre, but very little of the 1975 cotton crop has been sold; farmers are holding for a better price, later.

As many of you know, Lodge No. 117, Robstown, lost another member, Bob Pavelka, who passed away suddenly of a heart attack 6n July 28th, just three months after the death of his brother, George, who died on April 29th. The loss of the two loved ones so close together was a severe blow to the Pavelka family, but life must go on and with God's help, we are going on

Wednesday, September 24, 1975 the best way we can. They are both missed very much by all, family and friends. Pavelka's Orch. lost two charter members, George played alto saxophone and Bob played trumpet and trombone.

With some changes and adjust, ments the Pavelka Orchestra has continued to fulfill their obligations without any cancellations, and we feel that this is what both George and Bob would have wanted for them to do, especially since both loved the music and it was so much a part of their lives.

Mrs. George (Helen) Pavelka is the manager, filling in George's place for the business of the orchestra. Members of the Pavelka Orchestra are determined to go on playing their music, as in the past, for others to enjoy along with them.

Congratulations to the winners at the State YAD. We especially wish to congratulate our own youth club members, who were winners, and Lodge No. 117, Robstown had several who won, some placed first in the state competition. I do not have all the information, so I will let their youth leader, Sister Thelma Hrncir, make a more complete report on this.

LODGE NO. 88, HOUSTON BIRTHDAY CLUB SISTERS Dear Members and Friends: Our regular monthly meeting was called to order on Wednesday, September 10th, by President Willie Mae Wood.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Mary Sanderson and were approved as read.

Treasurer Mary Tilich read, the treasurer's report which was very good.

Sister Frances. Olexa, reported on our trip to Temple to visit the SP,IST Museum, at the Supreme Lodge Bldg. The committee decided to go in September, so I am sorry that I did not have the opportunity to give the details in this writeup because you will receive the Vestnik the day we leave — Wednesday, September 24th.

The Homecoming Day for Lodge 88 members was a huge success.

Thanks go to the Entertainment Committee and the Board of Trustees, for such a well-planned day because we had an enormous crowd and everyone was served plenty of food without delay. On this day the Birthday Club Sisters had a bazaar and prizes given away. Sister Mary Tilich was chairman of the bazaar and Sister Rosalee Kostozn, chairman of the prizes.

Workers for the bazaar and prizes were: Sisters Della Kadlecek, Mickey Rice, Sue High, Margaret and Carole Liebscher, Frances Olexa, Rose Horelica, Willie Mae Wood, Mary Sanderson, Sophie Hempel and Mary Fusig. On Czech Day, the Birthday Club Sisters will also sponsor the film entitled: "Seven Days to Remember." This is a very outstanding film and our Lodge president, Brother Louis Hanus, says that every child and adult should see this remarkable film. You will have the opportunity to see this film free on Czech Day. This is a must, so mark your calendars for October 26th.

Sister Mildred Holman and her husband, Brother Billie Jack, had their daughter's wedding reception at Lodge 88, on Sunday, September 7th, immediately after the wedding. Their daughter is Billie Maxine and she married David Lee Brinkley at Our Savior Lutheran Church. The wedding ceremony was beautiful and the bride and groom were just lovely. The dinner and dance were enjoyed by everyone and Sister and Brother Holman can be proud of this wonderful occasion.

Lodge No. 88 will host the District V meeting on Sunday, October 5th.

Sister Tillie Helmcamp and Brother Alfred Hilsher, district officers, urge you to attend this District V meeting. It is very important that you attend this meeting and support your district. They have some surprises for you.

I would just like to mention that Lodge 88 will have an appreciation dance for our beloved Brother Ernie Hanka, who is still in the hospital, but he is improving. Watch the Vestnik for the date.

87, TEMPLE Dear Members and Readers: President Louis Marek called the meeting to order Friday evening, September 12th, at 7:30 p.m.

Brother Sidney Kacir led members in reciting the pledge of allegiance. Members remained standing in silent tribute to deceased member, Brother W. Guy Draper.

Members reported to be on the sick list were Mrs. Johnnie Motl of Rockdale -- in Merest Hospital, Waco; and Tillie Blum who is in King's Daughters Hospital in Temple. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery to these members and all who are convalescing.

Various reports were given and old and new business were discussed.

Following a discussion by lodge members, a motion was made and seconded to hold a special cleanup program of the lodge property on Monday evening, September 29th at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served; ladies are asked to bring a dessert. Hot dogs will be furnished by the lodge. Mark this date on your calendar.

Brother L. Zatopek gave an Insurance report. He also mentioned that the rules and regulations of delegates for the convention in 1976 have been discussed in the last two issues of the Vestnik and are in our by-laws, so please pay special attention to these rules.

Our next regular lodge meeting will be held on Friday evening, October 10th at 7:30 p.m. The ladies of the lodge are asked to bring sandwiches and desserts to be served during the social hour. We will be looking forward to seeing you then.

The minutes of the August meeting were accepted as read A thank-you note was read from Mrs. Frank Mizera and the Emil Hanus family: also a letter from Lodge 13, Dime Box, pertaining to an ad in their brochure and dedication of their new lodge building.

President Emil Hanus asked everyone to stand in silent prayer for Mr. Frank Mizera, father of Sister Annie Hanus, who passed away on August 28th, 1975.

Brother Silas Smith had Sister Engelke to read the minutes of the Board of Trustees' meeting which was held Tuesday night, 'September 2nd.

Sister Jeanette Smith reported on the Entertainment Committee activities. Today, Lodge 66 was celebrating their 69th anniversary.

The committee had a cake baked and decorated for the occasion which was on display. Next to the officers' table, new members were to be initiated by SL President Nick A. Morris.

Sister Parma gave the youth club report. Youth Club President Cyndy Slovak introduced Celine Catalon from the Philippine Islands, who is an exchange student. Celine is staying in the home of Brother and Sister Eugene Slovak. The club has made Celine a social member while here in the states.

Congratulations to Robert Leggott on winning an award for an essay on a Czech project. The club has had a very active year. Now, the members are hack to school, some going to college and working.

Several youth club members have

won scholarships to complete their studies. We are proud of our grandson, Ernmitt Wayne Attaway, a ge No. 86 member from his childhood, who received a twoyear full paid football scholarship at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana. We are proud of our youth who have won scholarships and awards to finish their careers. May they all be very successful.

Health Committee — Sister Agnes Mazanee reported that she had sent sympathy cards to Mrs. Agnes I3eseda on the loss of her mother; Brother Nick Morris, who lost his brother; Brother Emil and Sister Annie Harms on the loss of a father and father-in-law; the Raymond Helona family on the loss of twin babies.

And get-well cards were sent to the following: Emmitt Attaway, Sister Annie Janek, Brother Ray Moore, Grandmother Kapavik, Brother R. C. Chandler, and Broth er Emil Barak. Brother Ray Moore is back at the VA Hospital in Temple, We hope he is improving.

President Harms asked Brother Morris to say a few words. Brother Morris said that he, his wife, and sons were happy to be present because this was home to him. Brother and Sister Nick Morris have been members of Lodge No. 66 for a number of years, being very active in our lodge when Brother Morris was editor of the Vestnik and they resided in West. He had a part in many activities held at the lodge.

Brother Morris congratulated Sister Jesnette and Brother Silas Smith who completed the basic, intermediate and advanced courses of the Fraternal Insurance Training Program, thus earning their degrees of a full Fraternal Insurance Counselor (FIC). Lodge 66 can be very proud of these two members for the honors they have earned, not only in the FIC, but here at Lodge 66. They have won a place for themselves by being very active members who maintain doing more than their share of work holding positions in the iodge serving on committees, ready to help on any project, lending a helping hand and being true fraternalists. They have earned a place of being "Good AmericanCzechs," by their fine personality and hrotherhood, with everyone here at Lodge 66.

Macel, M. J. (Mike) Mazanee, Roman Parma, Sr., Jos. Toiler, John Vana, and Emil Zahumensky, and later Brother John Lasak, grew our Lodge Slovanska Lipa (Slavonic Linden) No. 66. The oldest minutes on record are dated September 8, 1912. The above-mentioned group worked hard, struggling to keep their lodge growing.

On August 22nd, 1915, Sister Katerina Wolf, became a member.

Upon her death, she bequested her /property to Lodge 66 and requested it be used to build a lodge home for its use. It was through members like Sister Wolf and others who never gave up; always looking ahead to the future, that has helped Lodge 66 to build a home and increase its structure a couple of times, plus increasing the membership in large numbers, each year.

Other people learn what the SPJST stands for and what benefits they receive from it. They become members, take interest in the lodge, become active and involved and work to make it a better and a nicer place to go to enjoy and have fun with their family and friends.

At Lodge 66, you get involved and learn the meaning of Benevolence, Humanity, and Brotherhood.

Sharing in times, good or bad, happiness or sorrow, work or play, lending a helping hand, a pat on the back, or just standing by the side of your brothers and sisters.

When you do these things you find you always have a. friend in this great organization — the SPJST. Brother Morris asked the new members to come forward to be initiated. The ceremony was very impressive. Brother Morris then challenged the new members on

the duties of a member to be active; to give in return what you would expect to receive from the lodge; be willing to help whenever you are asked to take part or give of your time, for along with the fun there is also work to be done to help keep up jobs needed to be done, for there are always

repairs, cleanups, other projects that take a lot of help to make them a success. Look ahead to the time when you can become an active leader in some office or be on a committee, learning what it takes to keep a lodge active, growing and moving forward. A lodge is not operated only by the officers and

committees, it takes all of the members helping, giving of their time, ideas, efforts, to keep the lodge moving ahead; not just joining a lodge for what fun and pleasure you can get out of it, but to take a part in sharing the work, Planning, and attending the meetings and activities to learn what It means to be a member of the SPJST. We thank Brother Morris for coming out and initiating those new members and we welcome you members; hopefully you will become active, and enjoy being a member of Lodge 66.

We wish to thank all of you dear friends and members for your kindness , cards and prayers during the illness of my father and for your sympathy, the beautiful flowers, cards, Masses, and memorials, made on the loss of my father, Mr. Frank Mizera. We appreciated your presence at the services and my mother wants all of you to know how much it helped her, knowing that you cared, being by our side in our time of sorrow. May God bless all of you.

Dear Members and Friends: I would like to inform all of our members that our next monthly meeting will be held during the day again. We are going back to our usual time, which is the second Sunday in the month, beginning at 2 p.m., and we will have svanna again after each meeting, as we have been having. The night meetings were held only during the summer months, so please make a circle on your calendar around October 12th, which will be the second Sunday of the month and make every effort to attend.

Our last meeting was held Tuesday, September the 9th, at 7:30 p.m. President Charlie Ma.teek opened the meeting with all the members present reciting the pledge of allegiance.

Secretary Mary Werner read the minutes of the previous meeting, and they stood approved as read.

An invitation to an opening of a new lodge building at Dime Box was read.

Treasurer Corlis Vallet and Financial Secretary Allene Zwahr gave their respective reports. Special fund treasurer, Gilbert Walzel, reported on all the income and expense for the month of August.

We wish a speedy recovery to Brother Alfred Susan, who was hospitalized, recently.

Brother Lawrence Joseph Sbrusch and Sister Rita M. Vacek converted their certificates from JT to adult policies.

A discussion came up about having a sign, identifying our new SPJST Hall put up in front of the building. Two separate committees were chosen to bring up a design of it to the next meeting.

Brother and Sister Charlie Harelice are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, September 28th, with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. at the SPJST No. 81 building. An invitation to the lodge members is extended by the honorees and their children. We wish them many more happy years together.

Sister Albina Pesak was admitted to the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. II last week. At the present time we have eight of our members there, so let's remember to visit with them as often as possible to show them that we do care.

How many of you read Brother Tom Kolaja's letter in the Czech section of the Vestnik, September 3rd issue, pages 22 and 23? It was about his experiences in France in World War I. He had only two years of Czech school when he was a little boy, and yet he still uses such a choice of words that only a few of us are capable of using.

If you have read it and enjoyed it, please drop a line or two to him, I know he would like that very much. His address is Damon, Texas 77430.

Refund checks were distributed and the door prize was won by Brother Henry Hurta. He donated it back to the lodge. Thank you, Brother Hurta.

Before I close this report, John and I would like very much to thank all our friends, relatives, neighbors and students who came to extend their congratulations on our 50th wedding anniversary, to make it the most memorable day for us.

LODGE NO. 92, FORT WOR'T'H Dear Members: On Sunday afternoon, September 14th the faces of the majority of our members were as welcome a sight as the pleasant sunshine we had after two cloudy cool days.

Everyone was thankful for the cool spell and an air of eagerness was prevalent. Final plans were made for our 65th anniversary celebration on September 28. Details are in the back pages of the Vestnik.

The Ladies' Circle announced at this meeting that they would like to set up a bazaar-type booth on that day to sell handcraft items, home-cooked goodies, house plants, and gift items; their request was approved, therefore the ladies would appreciate donations of surplus or unneeded articles.

After the reading of the minutes and officers' reports, seven new members were accepted; one secured by Brother Kenneth Krivanek, and six by Brother Joe Krivanek.

We were glad to learn that little Bruce Dolkos, grandson of Sister Vlasta Dolkos, had successful heart surgery and is doing very well. On the other hand we were saddened by a report from our lodge president, Brother Carl Zich, that his mother, Sister Helen Zich, is terminally ill. This grand little old lady of 93 years is considered a matriarch of sorts by Lodge 92.

Brother Zich relayed her message that she "missed all of us," and certainly the feelings are mutual.

The family requested wishes and prayers that her last days be painless and meaningful.

We had only one guest this month, Brother Joe Paprskar, over from Dallas, but we missed his wife, Nancy, who was unable to attend. Brother Joe Juran related that Brother Charlie Motl is now able to drive his car and that is an accomplishment because he recently had a leg amputated.

Following the adjournment, supper was served by Sister Anna Juran and Crew, and was enjoyed, along with a lot of visiting and catching up on the news. Hope we see you there next month on October 12th, and you can find out what's been going On at your lodge.

13 LODGE NO. 24, CYCLONE Dear SPJST Members: Lookout! Flag Hall will be joining a new class. The lodge is making additional floor space in the building. The additional space will be made on the north end, and other changes will be the moving of the stage from the north to the west end. This will make plenty room for seating and leave more room for the dance floor, so no more standing hoping to find a chair.

Over the past meeting when this additional space was being planned, something else was in the making. And that was the usage of the democratic process. everyone spoke his pro or con and occasionally some persons were dissatisfied but hope for a victory next time. If you sit back and think, what other country is there that you can voice your opinion, good or bad. You may think that another silly statement, but if you get serious, think about it. With the cooperation of everyone this process was put to good use. And this process requires your voice whether pro or con; speak up!

Again compromising can help all parties involved — you help someone, someone will help you.

Also this meeting was honored with members from the Supreme Lodge: President Nick Morris, Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska, Jerry Mikulas, and District IX Sales Representative Lad Zatopek.

Other business was studying the bids for the addition and donation coverage for Easter Seals. Also the joining of new members: Stephen W. Bolton, Brian Wm. Richards, and Jerry Lee Taylor. Daniel M. Schnieder increased his policy.

The lodge expresses their sympathy at the death of Mrs. Frances Zabcik and Mrs. Olga Pomykal.

Those on the sick list are Mr. John Zabcik who is in the King's Daughters Hospital, and Mr. Ray Kovar who is recuperating at home.

Do you want to give yourself a happy feeling — visit someone who is sick or just help someone; not only will you make them feel wanted, but you yourself will feel better.

For new business we discusSed having a dance, but this discussion was tabled until the next meeting. Also, the lodge needs to know or be notified if Brother Albert Kamenicky is again going to lease the lodge building. Presently Brother Kamenicky is a patient in the VA Hospital and may not be able to attend the meeting, but may be able to send word. I hope he is feeling better and will soon be back attending the meetings.

NO. 88, HOUSTON Dear Brothers and Sisters, The womanless wedding was a huge success in the sense of the comicness of it. However, I wish there could have been just a few more people there. We had a fairsized crowd and they really seemed to appreciate the efforts of our actors.

I'd like to thank everyone who donated their time and materials to the play and the pizza dinner.

The dinner was very delicious and Mrs. Knapick would like to thank all her helpers and those who donated pastries. It would take practically the whole Vestnik to list all the actors in the play and those connected with it. I would just like to say it was a job well done, and I hope it can be repeated fairly soon.

For the Saturday, September 6th Effinger Combo dance, these folks had a birthday: Annabelle Veit, and Henry Hrncir, who was 72 years young; Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Walters celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. Out-of-town visitors at this dance were Mr. and Mrs. Don Hester from Driscoll, Texas. Many more happy times to all of you and come back and see us soon.

George and Linda Zaludek became the parents of their second baby girl on September 11th. She weighed 7 lbs and 3 ozs., and was named Rebecca Ashley. This was Grandma Ruth Duncan's 21st grandchild. Congratulations to both the parents and grandparents.

This is your last reminder of the State Royalty competition to be held at Lodge 80, Holland on Saturday this year, the 27th of September. This will give more folks a chance to come and have a better trip home. Please attend and support your district candidates in the State YAD, Royalty.

I had the privilege a couple of Saturdays ago to attend a 61st wedding anniversary dinner. The happy couple was George and Julia Courtney. The son and daughter-in-law of the honorees are Vernon and Clemente Courtney.

Happy anniversary folks and may you share many more happy years together.

Brother Dan Marek gave the youth report. He said that the children who went to State YAD had a wonderful time and reminded us about the State Royalty at Lodge 80, Holland on September 27th. The youth club is having a fund-raising contest; they are selling tickets on a homemade quilt, which will be given away in December, so if anyone would like to buy some tickets contact any member of the youth club because they will be happy to sell you some tickets.

Brother Adamek thanked the youth leader, Brother Marek, and assistant youth leader, Sister Catherine Adamek, for the great job they are doing for the youth.

A motion was made to have a sign-in book at all meetings to sign when you attend the meetings.

Door prizes were won by Sister Edith Schiller, Brother Edwin Kovar and Sister Minnie Pokorny.

A moment of silent prayer was held for Brother Joe D. ,Tez, Jr., 48, who passed away Sunday, August 31st, 1975. The lodge expresses sincere sympathy to the bereaved family on the loss of their husband, father, son, and brother. May he rest in eternal peace and honor to his memory, forever. He shall be missed by everyone.

Visitors at the meeting were SL President Brother Nick A. Morris and Sister Dorothy Morris, of Lodge No. 66, Sister Ann Balusek of Lodge No. 15, and Victor Cervenka. The following were accepted as adult members: Fred L. Bates, Jr., Denise D. Arnold, John Louis Kuban, Glen Clayton Banzhaf, Edith Marie Banzhaf, Sam Andrew Winkler, and Pearl Arzina Winkler; juveniles: James Ray Meek, Catherine Michelle Dupree and Michael James Adams. Transferring from Lodge No. 72 to our lodge was Sister Albina Dieser. Welcome to Lodge 47, one and all!

The following were named as being in the hospital during last month: Brothers Johnie L. Vanicek David J. Sefcik, and Sister Albina Chervenka. Brother Sefcik passed away the next day, after the meeting. Sympathy to all of the surviving family of this young brother.

The chairman and officers' reports were given with good reports for August. President Jerry Pechal reported on the mowing tractor, stating that it is back in operation after being repaired by Brother Bob Vasicek, who charged only for, the parts used. The labor was donated by Brother Vasicek.

The committee on resolutions reported that flowers were not ordered for Brother Joe D. Jez. Jr., because a private burial was planned and memorials were to be given to charity. We voted to send a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Brother Jez. Board Secretary Bob Vasicek read the minutes of their last meeting.

Under new business, the Salary Committee, consisting of Brothers Johnny Hruska, J. L. Vanicek, and Sister Vallie Zavodny, were chosen by the president and vice president to present their proposals for the 1976 salaries for the lodge officers to be elected on November 2nd, the annual meeting.

Last year Brother Johnie L. Vanicek proposed a card system to contact each member eligible to hold office, to be used by the Nominating Comm. instead of contacting each member personally. So the

Investigating Committee consisting of Sisters Lillian Kosarek, La Verne Vanicek, Dorothy Pechal and Brother Frank Spanhel, was chosen by the president and vice president. Sister Vanicek will be the chairman of the committee and will be the one receiving the cards.

These will be mailed following the next meeting to be held on October 5th. The Nominating Committee will be the same, except Sister Kosarek, serving through the election.

Square dancing is being taught every Wednesday night at 7:30 p,m. Last week they had an excellent turnout, especially for the first time. Those dancing were instructed by Mr. and Mrs. Lawler of Heiclenhehner. Young and old are invited, if only to observe.

Youth Leader Howard Stefka gave his monthly report and reminded the parents of the youth club members, that their dues should be paid promptly. These dues support the socials throughout the year that are paid for by the club treasurer. This month's social is a hayride starting at Star Hall, at 2 p.m. and progressing to the Johnie L. Vanicek farm at Three Forks on Sunday, September 21st.

It will be past by the time this is read. See what you missed by not being at the meeting!

Brother and Sister Klusacek had run the bar last month and were the cleanup chairmen, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Cervenka resigned, they volunteered to finish the year. Brother Willie and Sister Adeline Kohutek are the bar chairmen for September, and for October, our volunteers are Brother Johnie and Sister La Verne Vanicek. November and December are the months for which we need volunteers. If you would like to help out, call Jerry Pechal at 985-2245 and volunteer for one month or even both.

LODGE NO. 178, LONGVIEW Dear Members and 'Friends: The regular monthly meeting of Pinewood Heritage Lodge No. 178 was held August 17th at the Elderville Community Center.

The meeting was called to order by President Hugo Kocian. Following the pledge of allegiance and SPJST Motto led by Ronald Hablinski and Ronald Kocian, Vice President Gene Hablinski asked for a moment of silence to remember our departed members and especially the brother of our SL president who died during the week.

Routine reports were read and reported by the officers and some committee chairmen.

The Entertainment Committee is asking preparations for a dance.

The definite time and place will be announced later.

President Kocian announced the members of the Rules and Regulations Committee. The rules and regulations proposed by the committee will be read at two consecutive meeting's, then voted upon and sent to the SL for their approval.

The chairman of the Remunerations Committee, Bill Kelley, announced the proposals of the committee meeting.

The members voted the approval of the purchase of office equipment for the financial secretary.

Our family game nights — Friday and Sunday -- schedule for help was discussed. A list was made. It was stressed that scheduled workers who cannot work when they are scheduled to work MUST find a replacement.

An amendment to our local lodge dues was made. A monthly rate was set for the remaining months of the year, and there after the dues will be annual and payable in January.

- SPJST LODGE NO. 177, ACADEMY Dear Members: The Academy Lodge No. 177 met at the hall for their regular monthly meeting. Prior to the business meeting a delicious covered dish supper was served with the turkey being contributed by Brother Jerry Tornastik. Sister Pat Tomastik and Sister Love baked the turkey and dressing which was enjoyed by all.

At the business meeting, Brother Jerry Tomastili, president, presided. Reports of various committees were heard and Brother Bobby Heller reported for the Board of Trustees. Sister Josephine Tomastik was reported to have had surgery and to be recuperating at home.

In the absence of Sister Pat Tomastik, Sister Dorothy Massey reported for the youth club. We are proud of our youth club, who, under the leadership of Pat Tomastik and her assistants have been one of the top youth clubs in the district.

Sister Mary Renfro read two nice letters, which we appreciated receiving from Brother Kocian of Lodge No. 178, Longview and Brother Jack Pool of Austin, and a member of our lodge, thanking us for the hospitality shown and how much they enjoyed our grand opening. Brother Pool also returned his premium refund check and asked for it to be put in the building fund. We thank you.

Brother Milan reminded us of the District III meeting to be held in Elk on October 19th and on the upcoming convention in June and any by-law changes must be sent in now.

The dinner preceding the meeting was enjoyed by all and voted to continue the same in the future. Sisters Ann Dearing and Gaye Williams will be in charge of the meat dish — adults $1, and children 50 cents, and the members to bring a covered dish or pastry.

We extend get-well wishes to Diane Frill, who underwent surgery, recently; she is the wife of our new member, Charles Frill.

We were all sorry to hear of the great loss that Billy, Carol and Shawn Sanders had in losing their home and belongings in a fire. We caution you to unplug all electrical outlets, if possible, when you leave home for a few days. Carol is the daughter of Brother and Sister Wilbur and Jeanie Mason and she and Shawn are life-long members of our lodge. May your future be brighter.

This year we have an event for you which will make our 1975 Czech Day a truly momentous occasion.

The Birthday Club Sisters are sponsoring a historical film which shows the entrance of Russian soldiers into Czechoslovakia in August of 1968. Entitled "Seven Days to Remember," this free film is a must for everyone to see. Young

17 and old alike will be amazed at what actually took place and will be proud to see how the Czech people reacted! The film will be narrated by political science graduate student Brother Robert Eubank who has done extensive work in this area and will have additional information on display for those interested. I myself, have seen this film and cannot stress enough how important it is that you see it.

Following the film, a colorful parade of Czech costumes will mark the beginning of a free dance, featuring the ever-popular Lee Roy Matocha Orchestra.

1 LADLES CIRCLE OF LODGE NO. 92, FORT WORTH Dear Members: Everyone is looking forward to the 65th anniversary celebration of Lodge 92, this coming Sunday, September 28th. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served until 1:30 p.m. A special program starts at 2 p.m. followed by a free dance from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Many plans have been made and much hard work has gone into making this celebration a success. It is hoped that all members and friends from far and near will be able to attend and enjoy this onetime-only 65th birthday party.

Members of the Ladies' Circle, in addition to providing kitchen help, are asked to donate pastry, kolache and cakes. The circle will also have a booth offering an assortment of hand-made items, home-baked goods, plants, and objects d'art (white elephants). Many items are still needed for this booth. Sisters Frances Javtorski and Helen Paprskar, who are in charge of it, will be available to Assist those who have delivery problems or questions to ask. Everyone is asked to participate in one way or another. All donations and help will be greatly appreciated.

Reports are yet to be received from the recently returned European travelers, the Cihaceks, and are eagerly awaited.

Tillie and Art Gillis were reported somewhere in Canada in their travel trailer. They are sure to turn around and head back south when winter weather sets in.

Though not so glamorous, but equally exciting, Anne Polk was in California visiting with her new grandson, Kyle Patrick McArthur.

Bet she will have some pictures when she returns.

On the same subject, Billie Spindor also has a new grandson born to her son, Calvin, and daughter-in-law.

Visitors to the meeting included Toni Miller, Jessie McDonald and Mary Pavey. Mary Pavey got to stand up twice when she also celebrated a September birthday along with members Lydia Matusevich, Dona Hubenak and Florence Greer.

Rose Strnad, who must live right, won the door prize, again, but it couldn't happen to a nicer person.

Hostesses Esta Belle Hubenak and Florence Greer served a delicious lunch of chicken-fried steak, with all the trimmings. Although the ladies did the cooking, the fine hand of Papa Joe had to be In on the just-right seasonings. There were no leftovers.

Our thoughts are with Mrs. Helen Zich who has been very ill and, at this writing, she is in All Saints Hospital. The Circle is having a mass said for her recovery and our daily prayers are with this lovely lady.

The next meeting of the Ladies' Circle will be held on Thursday, October 9th, 10:30 a.m., at the lodge. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish.

From The Lodge Youth Leaders LODGE NO. 4, HALLETTSVILLE Dear Readers, On Sunday, September 7th several members of our youth club, their families, and myself attended the State YAD in Temple.

We enjoyed the trip, very much.

The craft items were well constructed and I know the judges truly had a hard time making their decisions.

Kimberly Drozd was our only participant at the State YAD. She entered individual talent, ages 10 to 12, but did not place. It seems our organization has many talented youth members over the state.

A special thanks to those who arranged to have the delicious catered dinner there. It sure was a blessing for those of us who had a distance to travel.

Our lodge is now preparing for the District VI fall meeting on Sunday, September 28th, at the American Legion Hall here in Hallettsville. Hope to see you then.

Letters From The Youth LODGE NO. 30, TAITON Dear Readers, Monday, September 8th, the Talton SPJST youth club held their regular monthly meeting at the Taiton Community Center. Before the meeting was opened, Miss Mary Mrnustik, Lodge 30 president, told the club that Mrs. J. W. Krutilek had resigned as youth leader.

She then announced that she had appointed Mrs. Jerome Dorotik and Mrs. Pete Merta as co-youth leaders.

Our vice president, Clare Dorotik, then called the meeting to order, Donna Blaha led the pledge and Sharon Yockey said the prayer.

We discussed results from the State YAD. The craft winners from our lodge were: Maurice Dluhos, 1st in Pictorial arts 13-14; Clare Dorotik, 2nd, Science and Educational, 13-14; Lisa Priesmeyer, 2nd, Hobby Kits, 13-14; Rosann Dorotik, 2nd in Pictorial Arts, 15-17; and Karen Kahanek, 3rd, in foods 10-12. Clare Dorotik won 2nd in individual talent, ages 13-14; and

our junior group won 2nd in talent. Participating in the junior group were Yvonne Kresta, Yvonne Krpec, Brenda Kresta, Carolyn Blaha, Vicki Dorotik, Marjorie Treumer, Melissa Zboril and Karen Kahanek. Clare Dorotik received a plaque for one of the top ten youths in the state and our club received a plaque for being one of the top ten youth clubs of the state.

A report was made on the profit from our rummage sale and bake sale.

We were asked to decide if we wanted a Halloween party in October. For our October meeting, we are going to have a mask contest and we are going to have poems read that members bring from home.

Our fall district meeting is going to be held on September 28th at Hallettsville. We were asked how many plan to go.

Miss Mary Mrnustik was our guest speaker and, talked on good conduct at meetings.

Next we had a back-to-school program. The members sang two school songs and Lisa Priesmeyer read a poem entitled "Jumping

LODGE NO. 74, LOVELADY

Dear Members, Our youth club went to Temple on September 7th for the State YAD competition, and we won. We competed with 6 other districts in the State of Texas. The youth of the square dance club who went to compete were Steven Parrish, Susan Hafner, Cam Smith, Jody Bobalik, Alta Manning, Kenneth Erwin, Bret Broaddus, and Bill Erwin.

We won first place in Group Talent. Cam. Smith won first place in individual talent with a dance twirl. Deearma Blackstone won 2nd place on a flower pat she made.

Steven Parrish won 2nd place on his gun rack. We had our caller from Conroe, Jack Baker, to come down and call and we donated the trophy we won in square dancing to him (September 10th). Susan Hafner won a plaque for one of the top ten youths of the year throughout the state of Texas. Mrs. Alice Hafner also was named as one of the top ten youth club leaders in the state. We are looking forward to Royalty on September 27th in Holland. Steven Parrish and his duke, Russel Bond, will be competing against other candidates from the districts. We urge everyone to came out and go to Holland and cheer them on.

In junior talent, Michelle Pokladnik won first place with her special gymnastic performance.

Rita Kamas received second place in the senior division talent for her darling tap dance to the tune, "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown." In junior craft division, we were represented

Annie Oates entered her famous fresh apple cake and I, Jennifer May, received a first place for my watercolor, and second place for my Batik pillow. Both Anne and I were in the senior division. Fraternally, Yvonne Krpec (9-17-75) — SPJST LODGE NO. 130, DALLAS Dear Readers, Saturday night, September 13, the youth club of Lodge 130 spon sored the kitchen for the Shipwreck Dance. Despite the rain, there was a good turnout and everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed it.

During intermission there was a very entertaining floor show. The first performance was a Philippine dance called, "Timikling." Becki Skrabanek and Jennifer May were bamboo beaters, Annie Oates and Rita Kamas did the dance of intricate steps. Carol and Rita Kamas beautifully performed the next three dances:, "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," "Long Train Run," and "Somebody's In The Strawberry Patch With Sally." The costumes and dances were well appreciated and enjoyed.

The prizes were given away during the next intermission. The money collected went to the parents of Rita and Carol to help with the plane fare for the competition in Cincinnati. This was sponsored by Lodge 130 and the youth helped with this worthy cause. Also, congratulations to the three winners!

Dear Readers, State YAD was held September 7th, at Temple High School. This year there was a large number of entries in the talent and craft divisions. We had four winners from Lodge 66. They were: Home Arts (15-17) Pam. Pavelka, 3rd place; Science and Educational (15-17) Pattie Stanislav, 1st place; Steve Stanislav won first place in Handicraft and Science and Educational (13-14); and Janice Stanislav won second place in Science and Educational (6-9).

On Sunday, September 14th we had our lodge meeting. Mrs. Parma told us that Mrs. Sefcik from Lodge 54, West, had invited us to attend a class in which we would learn the Moravian Beseda. This was set for Thursday, September 18th.

We were asked to think about what kind of activity we would like to do in the future. We will discuss and plan this at our next meeting.

After the meeting, the youth club sponsored games. Thanks to all of those who contributed to it.

Afterward, everyone enjoyed a supper of cold cuts, and sweets.

Maly jsme peknou schuzi v zaii.

Pi itomo bylo 21 elenek, a panove co host Joe a Vilem Houdek, Polasek a Joika.

S radosti oznamuji, ze jsme ziskaly novou eienkou, pi. Milton Nesudovou, Svagrova to sestry Albi Nesudove. Srdeene ji mezi Ms vitame a doufame, ze bude rady chodit do kroutku. Vykizen pozdrav od sester Zvolanek a Pettik. Postradaly jsme sestry ktere z jistych pricin mezi nami nebyly. Na nemocnem listku byia sestra Janiekova, ktera stravila nekolik dni v nemocnici, ale tit byla zase ye schazi a pravila, ze se citi dobie, cot ji ze srdce ftejeme. Pteeten listek ad sestry Zvolankova. Kroutek srdeene dekuje pant Lydii Ondraekove za StedrY penalty dar do nag i pokladny. Pike te nas osobne nezna, ale te jest hrdi na nas le tak svorne a pilne pracujem v kroutku. Cast° pry vzpomina na Ennis, nab sveho easu zde bydlela.

Sestra Novakova se gt'astne navratila ze zamoki a pravila, ze se may vtude moc dobte i podasi jim ptalo neb bylo krasne po celY eas tam pobytu.
