FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Another Youth Achievement Day has resulted in a successful affair when a large number of young SPJST members from seven lodges in District VI assembled Sunday, July 20th, at the Boling Community Center in Boling. Although it was a hot and sultry day, the convienent facilities did not keep the youngsters from competing in all the categories, The participants came welLprepared to challenge their competitors. The judges' selections were indeed close in each category when some contestants were requested to come back for another performance in order to break the tie. Incidently, this same type of incident happened in Districts II and III. With much assistance from Mistress of Ceremonies Karen Dorotik (30), plus most of the youth leaders in District VI, the entire afternoon's undertaking for DYC Elsie Brdecka was an easier burden which was carried out efficiently. The monetary Achievement Awards were quickly distributed by SYD Dorothy Massey and District VI Director Matt Vanek while the last portion (royalty contest points) were being tabulated; and after a few remarks by out-of, town guests, the moment arrived for Sister Massey to announce the winners' names. DECEIT You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time. —Lincoln * * 0, what a tangled Web we• weave, When first we practice to deceive! —Walter Scott selection of representatives in all categories to compete at the state level. Congratulations to you and best of luck to you young folks. The overall of the YAD was a great asset to the Society. May your interest in this type of worthy cause continue for a long time to come. July 20th came and passed and was enjoyed by all. Our hats off to all the contestants, and we look forward to seeing you on September 7th, at Temple High School. Lodge No. 58, Hungerford was the host and we thank them for their fraternal hospitality. * * Saturday, July 26th, we set aside our Vestnik duties at 9 a.m. and left them with the printshop personnel, in order to attend the opening of Eagle Mountain Athletic Center in Fort Worth. We still had some small details to take care of on the Vestnik late Saturday and Sunday, but we wanted to be pres-
ent both Saturday and Sunday at the opening of this new lodge. We arrived there and were warmly greeted by a very large crowd of enthusiastic well-wishers and fraternalists. Their new home for Lodge 154 and Sokol Fort Worth is impressive and will, no doubt, be an asset to that section of our state. Our Society's best wishes go forth to all involved in this undertaking and the best of everything in the future. Although it was necessary to re_ turn to West the same day so that Sister Sefeik could go to District III camp, and the final touches put on the Vestnik, we decided to attend the Sunday, July 27th program at Fort Worth again, which we did. The day was enjoyable and was a success in all aspects. Brother Jerry Milan, president of Lodge No. 154 and a devoted Sokol enthusiast, and all the others concerned are to be commended for their fervent endeavors to further the advance at both SPJST and Sokol. Here it should be stated with definite fact that our Sokol organization in the Southwest, and, es., pecially in Texas, has been most beneficial to our SPJST, not only in that it has worked hand-inhand with our Society in all efforts, but that it also supplies us with a great percentage of very healthy, gymn.q.stically inclined
